#Daruk's Song

Text
I've mentioned before that I'm currently playing the Breath of the Wild DLCs for the first time. And after finishing the nerve-wracking initial part (including that torturous spike-temple >_>) of "The Champions' Ballad" on the Great Plateau, I went to the Eldin Region next. And you see, of all champions, Daruk was always the one I was the least interested in. It's not that I disliked him, I just loved Mipha, Urbosa and yes, even snarky Revali, a lot more. However, the cutscene upon finishing "Daruk's Song" made me smile so much and completely changed my opinion. XD I never realized he and I share the same fear. Now I rather like him. ♥♥♥

revalink shitpost of the day: revali and link as kpop stans
revali is either a complete anti who openly mocks and says shitty stuff about kpop idols and runs blockchains on stan accounts, or he gets extremely defensive and aggressive because you didn’t like his nugu girl group’s comeback song because come on this is musical genius what do you mean it sounds like construction noises!!! he spams fancams of his bias and runs a protect/shooter account for his ult group. revali is definitely at risk for being a solo stan, though, he's got a couple of strong opinions about certain idols in certain groups...
as for link, no one had any clue that he likes kpop at all. his personal belongings have no indication of kpoppery and he never talks about it irl, but then you look up his youtube channel and its like 300+ videos of full length kpop dance covers. link performs it exactly like the original idols do down to a T and also has really nice outfits and sets, and the video is just really professional??? how did he film this??? champions+zelda would probably find out after doing a random kpop dance challenge for shits and giggles, but wait why is link slaying the choreography to antifragile by lesserafim rn…

Positivity - BotW/Totk x reader
Tumblr media
“Haven’t been active on tumblr for a while because of work, but I hope you’ve been doing better! I really enjoy reading all of the zelda content you make and seeing the other funny posts you have on your regular blog too, and I know it’s hard to keep up with mental health so I just want to say that you do have support from people here like me :) If you’re up to it, I think a request I want to make is different zelda characters simply making positive reinforcements or comments towards their s/o’s since everyone seems to be mentally tired and maybe it can be a little helpful to read positive content.  Please take care of yourself, taking a break even for a little bit can be good.” - @reva-rose
hi hi!!!!! thank you so so much! i’ve been doing a bit better. i’ve definitely been neglecting my blogs though… whoops!!!
i meant to post this one when you sent it, and then completely forgot about it :’)

“I love your personality.”
“Spending time with you makes me feel so happy.”
“You can do anything you set your mind to.”

“You’re quite wonderful, you know?”
“No matter what, I’ll always be here for you.”
“You’re so strong.”
“I believe in you.”
YONA:
“You’re doing such a good job.”
“I’m always here to support you.”
“You can do it!!”
“Don’t worry, I’m right by your side.”
DARUK:
“You’re great!”
“No one could compare to you, y/n!”
“Yeah! You got this!”
“You’ll always have my support.”
YUNOBO:
“You’re so kind and wonderful.”
“There’s no one like you, y/n.”
“You’re so amazing. I’m so lucky to have you.”

“You’re perfect just the way you are.”
“I have your back, and you know that.”
“Don’t let anyone tell you you’re less than what you are. They’re just jealous of you.”
KASS:
the only thing i have to say for Kass is that he would write you the most BEAUTIFUL song and perform it for you when you’re feeling down / off / out of it / etc.

Why didn't anyone tell me that the background music for each of the divine beast 'dungeons' is S.O.S. in morse code that is then drowned out by S.A.D. instead!!!
Cause I was just listening to LoZ music while doing my homework, and now I'm bawling!
Like the S.O.S. in Vah Medoh is SO frantic and how much immediate danger and pain must Revali have been in to openly express being so scared and panicked!!!!!!!
And in Vah Ruta the S.O.S. starts relatively calm and then grows more and more and more desperate as the song goes on, and Mipha in no way deserved that kind of growing terror in her last moments!!!!!
And the rhythm of the S.O.S. calls in both Vah Naboris and Vah Rudania sound so resigned, as if both Urbosa and Daruk had accepted their fates before sending the calls
And listening to the songs you can hear each of the champions' final battles as they fight, desperately beg for help, and then are drowned out by the 'seek and destroy' message overriding their distress calls
And I'm now sobbing

I know tears of the kingdom just came out so forgive me for being on my botw bullshit but. there's something so tragic abt the SOS signals hidden in the divine beast themes. it's a thing that's just for the player and they're hidden so deep in the background you'd only hear them if you were paying attention. and something about (in the "entered" themes of the divine beasts) how the morse code is among the first notes you hear, that continue throughout the whole song.
how medoh's theme is the only one that takes time for the SOS to start, possibly because revali was the last champion to get to his divine beast, or because he took the longest to send out a signal (or both.) how there are long pauses between batches of the morse code in ruta's theme, because, at the very least, mipha had the ability to heal herself. how frequently it loops in naboris's theme and how the music overpowers it in rudania's theme after the first SOS gets out, because of how much urbosa and daruk were struggling. im in so much pain.

Day 52: Pants, or No Pants?
I glide back down to the Stable in the dawn light and spot Addison. I build him truly the worst contraption to support his sign - but it works!
Regan of the Zonai Survey Team says the stable girl left when they all took their clothes off. I'm not surprised. Bissi flatly refuses to undress - I don't blame her.
Penn is here, investigating all this. He says a couple of the naked men went to investigate a monster den - and haven't come back. I don't like the sound of that…
The stablewoman Gaile is hanging out with the dogs until the guys put their clothes back on. She says if I befriend the dogs they might lead me to treasure. Fun.
There's a smoke signal beyond her. But there's only a dog there? I wonder if I feed it…
Tumblr media
It's only as the dog leads me into the nearby cave that I notice Domidak and Prissen. Ah, some of Misko's treasure is here. But they can't find it because the cave is completely full of treasure chests. The dog leads me right to the true treasure chest, and the ember trousers.
Domidak looks hopefully for more treasure, but only finds a bottle with a message in that he has no interest in.
I read it when they've gone. It's from Misko. The ember trousers are but one of their hidden treasures - this, I knew. They point me to another - the Fierce Deity Sword. If I return wearing the clothing of the Fierce Deity, I will be rewarded. I need three keys. One beneath the bedchamber of Akkala's red-crowned citadel, one in the skull's left eye, one in an old stump on Hyrule Field.
Well. The middle one sounds easy, the other two less so. I'll see what I can do on my travels.
But what's in all these other chests? Single rupees. No wonder Domidak and Prissen lost interest. The cave is great for catching lizards, though.
Outside, Dom and Priss are discussing where to go next. They've got old manuscripts, riddles that Misko wrote. I pay him 100 rupees for each of them.
They all begin the same way:
"I discovered the green clothes of a man who admitted fairies and have hidden them away. Solve my riddle to find them anew."
The twins: "In West Necluda stand twins poised to duel. Each contains a cavern that faces the other. Show the little twin's sign to the big twin to open the door to my treasure."
Could that be the Dueling Peaks?
The pirate cavern: "A forgotten pirate cavern lurks at the foot of Cape Cales overlooking the Necluda Sea. The short shrill song of wind through lips will open the way to my treasure."
Eight heroines: "Statues of the eight heroines reside in the desert. Enter the valley carved into Hemaar's Descent and shine the light of day upon the towering eighth. The path to the treasure will open before you.
Interesting. Misko certainly travelled far and wide.
I should go and look for those two guys who went looking for monsters in their underpants though.
I grab Peaches from Ozunda at the stable, and head out. He wants a photo of Daruk's statue to hang in the stable - noted.
Tumblr media
I don't have to go far up the road to find two naked guys trying to pluck up the idiocy to approach monsters with no clothes on. Drant and Sango. They tell me of Zelda's supposed advice. I volunteer to deal with the monsters - but these idiots are men of their word, so I need to match their feat of going in with no gear…
Tumblr media
This is so stupid. We're just idiots throwing rocks at each other.
It takes me well into the evening to defeat the monsters. It's not being in my underpants that's the problem - it's losing my weapons and materials!
I was minded to ignore the korok on the way back down to the stable - but then I see a steering stick and think it might be fun. And it is!
Tumblr media
I build a small craft and pilot our way across the hot springs, even grabbing some luminous stones on the way back. Then I whistle for Peaches, and head for the stable.
The men are all clustered around Penn, with a new researcher - Lecia. She says Zelda actually said: "So, prepare your mind and body, and then explore all other paths!"
Tumblr media
Bougan tries to make everyone feel better about it - but they all put their clothes back on pretty quick.

I've just reviewed "The Hobbit" and I can't help feeling that the song "The Misty Mountains Cold" has vibe of gorons. Well... In my mind it sounds like some sad song about war or travels. And I just have a feeling that the gorons would have sung this one if they were far from their home. 🤔
Oh my goodness, it had been so long since I've seen The Hobbit and I nearly forgot about this song. You're absolutely right - this gives me a tune that the Gorons would sing in times of sorrow or as you said, when they were far from home and feeling homesick. What this made me think of was two scenarios in particular: - In Ocarina of Time when the Gorons were locked away to used as food for Volvagia in Death Mountain, I feel like this is a song they'd sing as they desolately looked outside of the bars either waiting to be saved by Darunia or to be eaten. The longing to be home in the city and safe with their brothers. - This is the song that either the Gorons sang or that played in the background (like a movie scene) as they hauled away either Daruk's lifeless body or his Boulder Breaker after the Fireblight took him. Their low hums and the deep singing hopefully carrying Daruk's spirit into the afterlife knowing he was the pride of the Gorons.

already too late (if we arrive at all) - #2
we've got some exposition & lore coming up this time, whoo! but only a little bit. got to leave some for later.
should have mentioned last time -- the title of this fic/collection is from a Poets of the Fall song, "War". I rate this band so highly. their lyrics truly are poetry.
anyway. on to the fic.
--
Pairing: Revalink
Rating: T
(A soulmate AU, sort of.)
-- Prompt #2: you can do better than this --
The thing is this: these days, soulmarks are something of an oddity in Hyrule. The earliest recorded story claims they were a gift from the Goddess, to help fated lovers find each other – and to help them use the time they had together wisely. Whatever the truth of it, this much is known: they are most commonly found among the Hylians and Sheikah; seldom encountered among Gerudo and Zora; a mere peculiarity among the Gorons.
And never spoken of in the Rito histories.
Their only source of information regarding the marks stems from their Hylian neighbours, whose own knowledge of the myth is limited: nobody in Tabantha Village had been the subject of a soulmark in quite some time.
It wasn’t the sort of thing that happened anymore, they said.
So, Revali would argue – if indeed he was ever compelled to defend his purely scientific curiosity, which frankly needed no defending at all and would merely indicate unspeakable rudeness on the part of his hypothetical interrogator – so, it was only natural that he might hold some curiosity about the marks, and what they were supposed to mean. An idle interest, that was all, in—
“—just the most ridiculous, vacuous notion imaginable; I’m sure one could divine more accurate fortunes from a river-snail’s slime.”
Well. That.
“…Evocative,” Urbosa says, a glint of emotion Revali can’t decipher in her eyes. “Do go on.”
Her words have the weight of a trap behind them and, almost too late, Revali recalls the whispers. It’s enough to make him realise the comparative wisdom - for once - of silence.
“No?” Urbosa probes, and when Revali stays stubbornly silent she just smiles, and the quirk of her blue-painted mouth is a shimmer of mirage on the horizon, the curling danger of desert heat. “Should I take a guess, hmm?”
Mipha, who’d been looking down the path in hopes of seeing any of their fellow Champions approaching—not that it was likely; the three of them were all far too early to arrive at the proposed meeting-place, and would no doubt have endured in silence if not for Revali’s refusal to let the opportunity for answers pass him by—well, anyway, Mipha chooses that moment to look back at them with the same sharp huff of disapproval that Revali heard from her, and had endeavoured to ignore, at that dismal attempt at ceremony earlier. Of course she must have steel, to be chosen as a Champion, but still it takes him aback to be confronted by it so.
“Of all people,” says Mipha in that mild, reproachful voice of hers, “I would have thought you might speak of the marks with more respect, Lady Urbosa.”
Urbosa tips her head on one side — a remarkably Rito gesture, which makes Revali wonder if she’d once had friends among his tribe. She eyes Mipha, considering. “My apologies,” she says, in a voice just this side of sincere; “I forget how seriously the Zora regard these things.”
Revali glances between them. The Zora are strange, he reflects. In years, it’s possible that the Zora Princess is even Urbosa’s elder; yet in terms of lifespan, she’s far closer to his own peer. (In maturity, she surpasses them all: he’d think it the weight of a crown, yet their appointed leader is far from Mipha’s equal in that regard.)
And though Urbosa could overpower her with but a click of her fingers, Mipha stands firm and unyielding: allies, but not yet friends.
The same goes for all of them — except perhaps for Daruk, who seems to regard strangers as a friend he hasn’t met yet. But Daruk isn’t here, and after earlier, Revali is inclined to think of that as a good thing.
Instead, while Urbosa’s attention is drawn away by Mipha’s intercession, Revali cannot help but let his gaze dart down to the twist of flowers that ring a washed-out grey band around the Gerudo chieftain’s lower leg.
Brazenly brave of her to walk into Hyrule Castle with a proclamation inked upon her skin for all to see: that she, Urbosa — not King Rhoam — had been the soul-marked intended of the late, beloved Queen. He hadn’t heard of it until a day ago. It was something which had dominated whispers in certain quarters — whispers far more interesting than those he’d heard about other parties — and a question he’d quite forgotten to ask.
It had made him wonder…
“Do you… know somebody with a soulmark?” asks Mipha, giving up on playing lookout and walking across to where Revali is rooted to the spot, determined not to move lest he somehow betray his secret.
Something like that. He tells her so, as curtly as he can muster. Mipha looks at him like she can see straight through him regardless.
“Still,” she says, softly, “it is peculiar… The marks are so rare, these days, and yet…”
She shares a meaningful look with Urbosa, and doesn’t seem at all willing to give up her advantage just yet.
…He wonders. Even he knows that the marks are rare, and yet they’re the only thing she might be talking about. So. Something about the marks. Something about the Champions. Urbosa, obviously. As for the other…s, it definitely isn’t Mipha: none of her adornments are designed to conceal a soulmark, her red and cream scales unmarred by fate’s brand. It’s unlikely to be Daruk on probability alone, since the marks are supposedly so rare among Gorons. Which leaves the most predictable of possible soulbonds in all of the kingdom, trite and underwhelming.
The princess and her knight, of course. He starts to say it out loud, but trails off mid-sentence; Mipha is shaking her head with a look of utmost alarm on her face, her hands twisting in a plea for silence. Revali frowns.
“Not her, no,” Urbosa says in a low voice, “and you’d do well not to poke that courser hive. Particularly not here.”
Dinraal’s accursed flames, but Revali detests the doublespeak of Hyrule’s court and the knots it makes of people’s tongues.
(Much later on, he’ll realise — they didn’t deny that Link has a mark. The thought leaves him irritated. Fate really does favour that dull-witted knight.)
“Shouldn’t they be here by now?” Mipha says abruptly. She’s taken the opportunity to turn back to the path, and a faint crease of concern twists the corner of her mouth. “…I wonder if something has happened.”
If Revali were to hazard a guess, Hyrule’s princess is licking her wounds, her knight’s presence is salting them, and Daruk… Daruk is probably just lost.
“I’m sure everything is just fine,” Urbosa says, and there’s no spark of danger in her smile now. Only a languid warmth like she’s decided that Mipha and Revali are people she approves of.
Mipha shakes her head and turns back to him. “…How long?”
What.
She looks at him with mild reproach, waiting for an answer, and Revali rustles his feathers in annoyance, snaps out a defensive, “What?”
She explains, in more detail than he’s entirely ready to take in. He does his best to keep up anyway. Marks that unravel from gold to grey, threads that join souls together regardless of whether they’ve met before.
Threads that guarantee at least an encounter, it’s said, though it’s up to you to recognise them and Mipha can’t say how that works.
Threads that measure out the span of years allotted to your fated person.
Revali hadn’t known that. His wing twitches towards the wrapping that hides his soulmark from the world. How would one measure such a thing?
She hesitates. “…I can try,” she says, sounding unsure, uncertain, the steely confidence with which she’d faced down Urbosa draining away. “Or - a sage could say with more certainty, or — well, it’s said came from the Goddess Hylia originally, so maybe Princess Zelda…”
Revali thinks of what Urbosa said — best not poke that courser hive — and comes to a conclusion. Of the remaining options, Mipha’s the only person on that list who has earned his trust.
Mipha makes a soft noise of confusion as Revali gingerly pulls the covering away, exposing his soulmark to another’s eyes for the first time since he was young and childish and didn’t know better.
“…Oh.”
She doesn’t say anything else for a long time. It leaves Revali twitchy with agitation. “Well?” he snaps, eventually, and Mipha shakes herself out of her stupor.
“I’m sorry,” she says, and the words are a shock of cold against his auricles, creeping inside his head and draining slowly down into the hollows of his bones. Sorry — sorry for what? “I — I’m really not sure if I’m reading this well, but… I think it’s a century and a half? Maybe closer to two… The twists are so close together, I’m afraid I can’t really see them clearly, but…”
“Are you sure?”
She hesitates for a long while before saying, “…Yes.”
It narrows some things down. It leaves some things far more unsatisfactorily done, and casts a shadow over his mood through the rest of the day.
In almost five years, the only thing Revali has ever had from his supposed soulmate is silence.
You see, there’s been no suggestion in the long history of the Rito that any of them have ever been possessed of a soulmark: not the Cuho, nor the Torpa, nor any one of the wandering clans have ever mentioned such a thing; and the rarer the event, the more likely it would be to be commemorated in song and passed down with fine-tuned precision, sung to chicks in their eggs when their hatching was still far from certain.
Indeed, not even the ancient sage and her trickster prince were marked by destiny’s strings, the way Hylians so often were, and they are at the heart of several songs, passed on through generations.
So when an orphan fledgling — on a date far too close to the archery contest in which he’d hoped, at long last, to prove himself the victor — finds the indignity of his adult tailfeathers finally growing in marked, similarly, by the presence of a golden band forming against the grey of his scutes, it’s… beyond strange.
Nobody knows what to make of it.
Least of all Revali.
Early curiosity doesn’t last for long. Soon the mark is nothing but a silent brand, and he can only wonder if some day there might be an answer. Until then he hides it from sight, and waits.
And waits.
And soon he grows tired of waiting.

Things are coming to a head, with only three chapters to go (next updates will be 11/12, 11/26, and 12/10). If you haven't already, start the journey HERE This story is Rated E for adult themes and content.
Below some PG excerpts to whet the appetite 😉
Chapter One - Resistance
Mipha clutched Zelda’s arm, squeezing it tightly as she gazed up at Revali with shining amber eyes. “Isn’t he dreamy?”
“Yes.” Zelda feigned agreement, but she couldn’t care less about Revali. Her attention was solely fixated on the bassist. How had she never noticed this man walking around campus before today? His eyes seemed to glow like two burning coals of blue, and she yearned for his gaze to be on her instead of the sticky stage floor. The crowds' energy and the drunk students dancing around her didn’t matter; she was completely transfixed. “Who’s that again?”
“Whos’ what….” Mipha began but then followed Zelda’s gaze and understood her fascination. “Oh....oh! That’s Link.”
Link. Zelda would have to eat her words earlier about alternative music being garbage. Hyrule Warriors had just recruited a new fan.
Chapter Two - Euphoria
Zelda had never been around such free spirits before. The atmosphere buzzed with their camaraderie, and she was surprised at how comfortable she’d become despite having just met the group. She took a sip of her ale and settled back into her chair. Link peeled a cocktail napkin off the pile he was writing on and slid it across the table toward her, fingers slightly spread so Zelda could see there was writing hidden beneath. She risked looking over where he sat across from her. His shoulder-length, pink-streaked, dark blond hair was tucked behind his perfectly pointed ears, which she now realized were pierced with hoops that matched his turquoise eyes. Eyes that were shining brightly at her while their friends drank, talked, kissed, and laughed uproariously around them.
Daruk slapped him on the back, knocking over his tall pint of ale in the process, and shouted something in Link’s ear, completely oblivious to the huge spill he’d just made. Link’s beautiful eyes widened as the force of the blow jarred him, and with a resigned shrug that sent the Farosh tattoo rippling down his arm, he gave Zelda an apologetic grin before turning his attention back to his friend.
His fingers disappeared from the napkin to help mop up the mess. Zelda reached out to snatch it off the table before the amber liquid oozing over the tabletop smudged the inked note.
Wanna go see the movie tomorrow?
Chapter Three - Bliss
“Favorite color.” Link’s voice filled her head.
“Huh?”
His laugh was warm and soothing. “Sorry. What’s your favorite color?”
“Oh.” Zelda’s cheeks flamed with the simple question. What would he think when she told him her favorite color? Maybe she should lie. But that could lead to the beginning of little white lies that led to big black lies, and… she was getting ahead of herself. “Turquoise.”
“Heh. Is that before or after you met me?”
Chapter Four - I Belong to You - NSFW
Zelda handed him the bottle and the corkscrew as she thought of a way to save the conversation and face. “I can’t like Kass and alternative rock?”
“Do you?” Link raised an eyebrow as he twisted the corkscrew, and she admired how his biceps flexed with that simple movement. Pushing the plunger down, he pulled the cork out with a loud pop.
“Not until yesterday.” Zelda looked at him through her eyelashes, biting her lip and smiling. What was she doing? She didn’t know how to flirt.
Link glanced up at her, blue eyes glowing, and rewarded her effort with his dimpled smile. “Heh. I’m rubbing off on you already, Zel.” He dropped the corkscrew on her desk and perused the cluttered shelves. “I can write you a song worthy of Kass. Just give me a few days. Glasses?”
Write her a song? Zelda thought she might faint. Her heart flip-flopped in her chest at the thought, even as she marveled at his boast. “Wow! You’re confident.”
Zelda pushed aside a couple of chip bags on her fridge and retrieved two glasses hidden behind them. She should really think about tidying up her room.
“No, just inspired by a muse.”
Chapter Five - Butterflies and Hurricanes
“This is the third movement. Gan titled it Redemption.” After a few more measures, Link began playing with his right hand, simple at first, building to a more complex melody. “Here’s where the string section would come in, with a counter melody. Gan can play a little violin, but we have some friends who will play for us once we complete composing the orchestration.”
He repeated the opening, gradually increasing the volume as the tempo picked up. Zelda couldn’t take her eyes off his hands, mesmerized by their seemingly weightless touch as his fingers glided over the keys. The melody grew, and the theme changed. Then he took an audible breath and, to Zelda’s delight, began to sing:
“Let’s start over again
Why can’t we start it over again?
Just let us start it over again
And we’ll be good
This time we’ll get it, hmmm get it right
It’s our last chance
To forgive ourselves.”
(song lyrics from Muse Exogenesis Symphony Pt:3)
Chapter Six - Undisclosed Desires - NSFW
“Zelda, are you listening to me?”
Zelda’s eyes snapped open, and her cheeks flushed as if her mother had just walked in on her fantasizing rather than just calling to her over the phone. “Yes, Mom. Graduation is on the 25th. I can’t wait to see you and Dad. I need to get ready for class, okay? Love you.”
“Love you, too, honeybun.” ‘Love you, honeybun!’
Laying the phone across her belly, Zelda allowed her eyes to drift close, hoping she could return to her daydream or, even better, to sle–Brrrrringggggg! Brrrrringggggg!
“Argh!!!!” Zelda jerked the phone back to her ear. “Yes, Mom?”
“Uh. I hope I’m not your mom, ‘cuz that would be awkward and super weird.”
Oh. Link. A smile crept onto Zelda’s face, and she rolled over on her side, tucking the phone between her ear and the pillow.
Chapter Seven - Break it to Me
Zelda’s eyes widened, and her jaw dropped. Was it her imagination, or had Selmie’s hand slipped further up Link’s leg? What was Zelda seeing? Is that what she had looked like when Link played his symphony for her? She shook her head. Link wouldn’t do this to her. Would he?
If you ask me, I think she still likes him. Mipha’s words from just a week ago regarding Selmie ran unbidden through Zelda’s mind, and her brain started working overtime. What did Selmie have that Zelda didn’t? Trendy, funky hair. Muscular, athletic build. She was probably an animal in bed, and maybe Link preferred that. Sleeping with Zelda must have been like licking vanilla ice cream after developing a taste for rocky road. Since she and Selmie were petite with green eyes and pale skin, maybe he’d imagined Selmie every time he’d been with Zelda.
Oh, goddesses. Bile rose up the back of her throat when Selmie rested her head on Link’s shoulder, and he didn’t even flinch.
“Tsk. That isn’t a good look.” Zelda turned to see Revali standing behind her. The jerk had followed her just to gloat?
Chapter Eight - Map of the Problematique
“What’s he like?”
“Sweet, kind, funny, even though his jokes are terrible. Thoughtful - he really cares about his friends.” Even creepy Ganondorf. Zelda would love to know what not-high-as-a-kite Ganondorf was like since Link hadn’t given up on his best friend yet. Maybe it was more that Link didn’t back down from a challenge, which meant there was still hope for her, no matter how the odds were stacked. “And, Mom, so talented. If you heard Link play the piano and sing…”
“It sounds like you’re already in love with this Link.” Zelda could hear the smile coloring her mother’s voice as her father chimed in from the background, ‘Who’s Link?’
“Someone Zelda’s met at school, hon.” ‘Are we going to meet this young man when we see her in a couple of weeks?’
Zelda rested her forehead in her hand and couldn't help but laugh. Her parents. “Maybe? I don’t know. I think I messed things up; we had a fight, and he’s gone for a week, and… I just don’t know.”
Chapter Nine - Madness - NSFW
“Yeah, about that.” Releasing her, Link slid off the seat, ruffling his hair as he stood. “I shoulda understood where you were coming from, seeing me with Selmie. It wasn’t cool how I acted. Sunday was the worst day I’ve had in a really long time. I couldn’t stop thinking about you… the hurt look on your face. It made me realize… I was thrilled when you texted me.”
Oh sweet, Hylia, what was he trying to say? What should she say? Zelda hadn’t stopped thinking about Link since she first saw him but couldn’t tell him. It was too soon for that type of confession. “Sunday wasn’t so great for me either. If I hadn’t had my research to focus on…”
“Yeah, I was glad for the distraction of traveling and setting up for our first gig.” Link turned and looked at her through the curtain of his hair. “I blew you off last week when you asked, but… I did a lot of soul-searching this week, and… there’s more between us than a good time, right?”
I'd really love to see this story top my stats on AO3. If you're over the age of 18 and haven't already, give this college au a try and leave me a Kudos and a comment if you have the time. TYSM! 😊

Introducing: Time
Time is another fanmade NWTB ego of mine! He’s the counterpart of Arbiter, and is based on Nate’s Songs of Time album. The primary song he’s based on/I get the most ‘feel’ of Time from is Hero of Our Time!
Tumblr media
His explanation for name, his backstory and his powers are below the cut!!
Name: I named this ego Time, since the title of the album is literally “Songs of Time” and one of the songs on it is “Hero of Our Time.” I thought that that fit him a lot, and I also was considering Courage or just Link, but I thought Time was better.
Backstory: Time comes from the same alternate Legend of Zelda universe that Arbiter is, and was also transported to the ego’s universe with Arbiter (although Arbiter didn’t know that until they met again at the Battle ego’s home.) He has fought Arbiter many times, and has mostly won. Time was distraught when Arbiter won against the royal family of Hyrule and became the King, but thankfully they were transported to the ego’s universe a few weeks after. He’s pretty much identical to Link except for his looks, and that Time does speak.
Powers: Time is a very good fighter, particularly with swords and bows. Time can do flurry rushes and bullet time like BotW & TotK Link, and Time also has Link’s inventory ability, meaning he can put pretty much anything in his pockets and take it out for later use. He does have access to the Champion’s abilities from BotW, so he has Mipha’s Grace, Revali’s Gale, Daruk’s Protection and Urbosa’s Fury. I wanted to make him pretty much equal in power to Arbiter, although I would say out of the two Time is weaker.
TLDR; Link but NateWantsToBattle!!
If y’all feel inspired to do anything with Time, please do so, I’m making these egos mainly for the community! Not saying that you have to, just it’s be really cool to see people do stuff with the characters I’ve made. Anyways, thank you all for reading and I hope you have a good day/night! :D

mipha has a whole park with a statue dedicated to her, with a song that has notes of her theme playing there
revali has a landing named after him, and the flight range that's been constructed as a reward for his accomplishments as an archer, a mellow version of his theme playing there
i haven't been to TOTK's version of goron city yet, but i do remember daruk's face being carved on the mountain wall, looking over the city. plus a bridge? but i might be misremembering
...what does urbosa have? riju only mentioned her by name in her diary, which is nice... somebody thinks of her at least. but there's no special place dedicated to her, or one that meant something special to her at all. this makes me sad

some of my thoughts on link, zelda, and the champions
this post actually started off with me trying to answer the last part of this anon's ask, and then it spiraled into something else, so i'm going to have to make another post about the actual idea 😭 for now, you can have this long-ass fucking thinkpiece i typed up because i love the champions dearly and i wanted a much larger presence from them as i played botw. this post is really long so if you want to read it, please sit down and have a snack while you read.
so the last part of anon's original ask was about the champions singing together and the idea of a found family—
anonymous asked:
Also: imagine all champions, Link and Zelda hanging out on one of the Divine Beasts and singing a song together (i am very weak to champions being a found family)
like you're so #real for this anon. i honestly do hope we get more champions content in TOTK because nintendo completely missed on not expanding on a found family dynamic between link, zelda, and the champions. sure there's the champion's ballad DLC and age of calamity (i haven't played either of these. sorry. i will soon!), but that's not.. they're still dead in the DLC and AoC isn't considered canon i think it's more of an alternative timeline? so that doesn't really count.
me personally i think daruk and urbosa are very mother and father, and they probably were if riju and yunobo are their direct descendants (which is a whole other rabbit hole in itself; urbosa and daruk died most likely leaving little children and spouses behind ㅠㅠ). and maybe that is the point; daruk is the rock (because he's a goron lol) that keeps the family together and in the botw memories is seen to be taking initiative to lead and tell the other champions to get to their divine beasts when the calamity awakens. he’s steadfast and encouraging and jovial and that’s very father of him! as for urbosa, she straight up mothers zelda and link in-game, she's basically zelda's maternal figure after zelda's mom dies. she's not a stepmom, she's the mother that stepped up 💪❤️
mipha bears the Eldest Daughter Curse™ and revali is the moody teenager who’s Not going through a phase, it’s a LIFESTYLE MOM!!!1!1!1!1 and imo link and zelda kinda give goofy twin siblings (imagine like the pine twins) vibes to me
i like the headcanon that link had a younger sister pre-calamity, but i’d like to add my own twist to that. assuming that link used to live in hateno village, what if link's parents split after the birth of his younger sister, with his father taking link and moving closer to hyrule castle to fulfill his duty as a knight, and his mother not wanting to get involved with the war against the calamity and taking his sister to stay in hateno? link must have been really young at the time and barely remembers being able to play with his little sister :( so even if he had a sibling, he was basically raised alone for most of his life. and if his father was a knight of hyrule, i doubt that he could have been the most present father to link either... with zelda's mother dying when she was young and her father being a complete dick, that makes both link and zelda the "only child" kids that were raised in less than desirable familial conditions. and so, i think link and zelda would have their own difficulties integrating into this found family dynamic with the champions.
now i'm not an only child (i have demons for siblings tbh), but i think both link and zelda are very independent people who feel like they can only rely and trust themselves with the way they've been raised. it takes a lot for both of them to learn to be vulnerable and trust others, and they're very much not used to the mismatched deck of personalities they have to deal with within the champions, that being jolly father daruk, very cutthroat mother urbosa, sweet and soft-spoken mipha, and dickhead ass bitch bird revali. how can they navigate through these relationships with their lonely childhoods swept up in prophecies of old? it's much easier than you think and it has to do with anon's idea: strengthening rapport with each other by singing together atop a divine beast >:]
ok i'm joking, i think that's more the apex of the roadmap to becoming a found family, but it's a very cute idea 🥺 after link and zelda are finally cool with each other, there are so many opportunities for each of them to bond with the other champions individually. there's of course zelda falling asleep on mama urbosa in vah naboris, link and daruk have their father-son bonding time by daruk protecting link from getting smashed to a pulp by volcanic boulders, etc etc, but what about mipha taking zelda to all the monuments that detail zora history throughout the domain so that zelda can study them? what about revali teaching link how to use the paraglider so that he can actually hit targets at the flight range and get a chance to finally settle the score between him and link? i actually like that idea a lot, because then we could get an explanation as to why the paraglider even exists in the botw universe (revalink for the win ehehe). nintendo, my dear friend, there could be so much more to this world that you've introduced to us.
on one hand, of course botw is narratively focused on link and zelda and calamity ganon, and mechanically about the open-world map, shrines/divine beasts, etc, that break free from traditional zelda conventions. but it leaves the champions to only be side characters that, though they played critical roles in handling the divine beasts, are nothing more than ghostly figures with a handful of one-dimensional character traits that only create a further disconnect between the current world of hyrule vs. its pre-calamity past. which is why we get champion's ballad and age of calamity, which both somewhat expands on the champions as characters, but never more than giving them a few more traits and interactions that, to me personally, feel empty and inadequate. i want to have these intimate interactions with the champions as characters in the botw map, ones that i can walk up to chat with as though they were sidon or beedle or a random npc traveler. i want to feel close to the champions, and nintendo, though with weak attempts, doesn't give me that.
Tumblr media
the picture that purah takes of the champions is so important to me. this right here is peak found family, a group of the most mismatched individuals that somehow meld perfectly together and balance each other out, and we only receive it through the DLC. that's so stupid. sorry nintendo, i want more than three minute long memories of a singular moment in a past life, i want more than npcs telling me who i used to be. i want king dorephan to tell us about the time zelda fell off of a waterfall and mipha immediately jumped after her to save her clumsy ass. i want to look through historical records of the gerudo and find one about urbosa launching daruk at the mouth of a molduking and daruk chewing her out for it later. i want elder kaneli gossip with me about an old rumor about how revali and the hylian champion of the past used to be found asleep together on the floor of the flight range's hut after a long night of training. i want the world of botw to give me signs and stories about how close the champions were with each other and to make my heart ache, to wish desperately to have known them, instead of like, 20 memories that only serve the plot, or honestly don't at all. but i digress!
i know for some people, the presence of the champions were meant to teach link about tragedy and loss and the effect of war and ruin and evil and cherishing your loved ones or whatever, but i simply did not get that message. that was not what i perceived the champions to be, because to me, the game lacked showing the relationships link and zelda had with the champions. like okay, you died and you also happened to know me. what if link doesn't really remember them at all? then what?
you receive twenty or so memories about the champions when including the DLC, and yes i do concede it gives us some more insight about their characters, but it doesn't do much more than that. the cutscene where mipha moves vah ruta to ready its lasers at the castle, where she wishes to see her father and sidon one more time, especially is an excellent example of emphasizing their significance to the people around them, to us as players and spectators to this hyrule... i want more of that.
i could be wrong about some of the stuff i've said, so disclaimer again that i haven't played the DLC or age of calamity, and maybe you do feel closer to the champions when you play those games! fanmade fic and art and headcanons have been really great ways of helping me view them in a multi-dimensional way, but going off the game's content itself, the champions feel like hollow spectres of people we never truly remember or get to know. maybe that's what they're supposed to feel like, but i don't want to feel that way about them. i'm too attached to them now, and i want to get to know them! curse you nintendo!!!

i love how love ripples out in breath of the wild. mipha’s love for link is what allows her loved ones to heal and forgive him in the wake of her death. the court poet’s love for zelda is what motivates him to learn songs and teach them to kass so that he can sing them to link when the time comes.
riju asks urbosa for protection and guidance, teba admires revali and hopes his son grows up to be like him, daruk smiles down on goron city. in the post-apocalypse, love is there.

I've kind of wondered, how would Ilia get along with the Champions if they were still around? I imagine she'd think of Mipha as the best sister-in-law ever. Urbosa as the mother she always wanted. Daruk as the fun uncle everyone loves. And Revali... I'd like to think she'd try and get along with him, but would find it tough because of how he treated Link. As much as I love him, he was kind of an A-hole. Maybe they'd be arch rivals in archery? (Pun not intented).
Revali is constantly challenging Ilia to archery competitions. 🤣 She’d be a master by the time AoC happens, and he’d consider her a rival. Probably even uses the Great Eagle Bow from her time, too, lol, which he takes mild offense to because only he’s been able to use it thus far.
That said, Revali also finds her kind of pathetic, and doesn’t understand how she managed to help stop Calamity Ganon at all. He holds more respect for her than he does Link, as he can actually read her and does find her battle prowess quite impressive, knowing that she’s worked to get this strong, but he’d never admit it aloud. Ilia gets very upset whenever he starts to insult Link and immediately jumps to his defense.
Thus… irking Revali more, because he doesn’t understand what anyone sees in Link.
Mipha is the sweetest, and Ilia doesn’t have a single idea what she’s doing in the past except for the fact that she finally figured out how to play the Song of Time and that Hylia yeeted her there. So Ilia just kind of takes it upon herself to save Mipha.
Once the shock wears off on both parties, Mipha and Ilia get along really well! Ilia tells Mipha about how strong and how wonderful a prince and Zora her little brother becomes, and helps gather the materials Mipha needs to craft the armor for Link. Very wholesome, sisterly bonding time stuff.
Ilia conveniently leaves out the fact that she’s engaged/married to Sidon, until Terrako pulls all the new Champions into the past and Sidon happily declares, “There you are, beloved! I’ve been worried! So this is where you’ve gone?”
And Mipha is like, “Huh?”
Ilia: “Yeahhhh, we’re a thing… the Zora I’m engaged to? It’s him.”
Revali, “YOU GOTTA BE JOKING! YOU? TO THE ZORA PRINCE!?”
Yup. He’s gonna be so shook, lol, because this means he’s been rude to a princess this entire time. Close your beak, Revali, you’re gonna catch flies!
Alsjksksks it’s gonna be so funny. Anyways.
Urbosa and Daruk are both just highly amused and pleasantly surprised by the whole thing. Urbosa probably knew something was up for a while, but didn’t find Ilia a threat so she didn’t force it out of her.
Urbosa is gonna be *top tier momma figure* for Ilia. Ilia and Zelda are already technically cousins, so y’know, might as well share a mom figure too. 🤣
Zelda: “I feel like I know you… like you’re someone I’ve always been meant to meet…”
Ilia, sweating bullets because that’s exactly what her Zelda said when they met the first time: “Y-Yeah, about that…”
Note: I love Revali, but he really is a complete ass, lol. His dlc journal does give some very interesting insight as to why he doesn’t like Link, though, and it’s solely because a) he can’t read Link, nothing he does gets a reaction out of him, and b) it’s strongly hinted that Revali has a crush on Zelda and is jealous of Link.
