On December 30th 1899 the Albion Motor Company was established.
When we think of car manufacturers nowadays, even going back to the likes of Linwood and the Hillman Imp in the 60's was made and designed by Rootes, an English company, Albion was all Scottish, from the people who formed the company, to the workers on the floor and those that bought the products
The Albion Motor Company was founded, initially with seven employees, at Finnieston Street in Glasgow, the firm was started by Thomas Blackwood Murray and Norman Osbourne Fulton and initially produced both cars and commercial vehicles, switching to the production of military vehicles during World War One.
The firm was originally named the Albion Motor Car Company and re-named Albion Motors in 1930. In the 50's, the firm amalgamated with Leyland Motors.
The firm's first car, built in 1900, was a cart powered by an eight horse-power engine, with solid tyres. By 1915, the company had five different models in production. The motor trade must have ran in the blood of Fulton's family, his cousin, George Johnston is credited with building Scotland's first car in 1895, called the "mo-car" It was also the first to be built in the United Kingdom.
Albion Motors switched to mainly commercial vehicles production in the years before World War I, producing trucks and buses, including bus models Valiant, Victor and Viking.
In 1957, Lancashire-based Leyland Motors acquired Albion Motors as the first step in an expansionist policy, which saw famous names like Scammell, A.E.C. and Guy succumb. Albion Motor’s name was changed, rather ignominiously, to Leyland (Glasgow) and later, in 1987, to Leyland-DAF.
1993 saw a management buy-out that brought Albion Automotive, as it then became known, back into Scottish ownership. Since 1998, Albion Automotive has been a subsidiary of American Axle & Manufacturing, and manufactures axles, driveline systems, chassis systems, crankshafts and chassis components out of its premises on South Street, which it took over from the neighbouring Coventry Ordnance Works in 1969.

En esta entrevista exclusiva Larissa nos deja ojear un poco al muy personal, pero geográficamente vasto mundo de Lebanon Hanover, que se extiende desde Suiza, Berlín y las zonas rurales de Alemania a las costas de Inglaterra del norte y Escocia.
Son de lugares bastantes diferentes -Berlín e Inglaterra-. ¿Cómo es que estas ciudades influencian su arte? ¿Cómo les afecta a ustedes este dualismo geográfico?
Los dos nacimos en lugares que no nos gustan particularmente. Yo soy de Suiza, en realidad. La diferencia cultural es bastante grande entre la esteril Suiza y el apurado, algo primitivo estilo de vida del norte de Inglaterra. Realmente le da forma a nuestra música el que estemos constantemente buscando un lugar cómodo, excitante y creativo. En realidad todavía no encontramos un hogar. Berlín fue inspirador pero después de tres años, demasiado monótono y frío. Ahora estamos teniendo una probada del área rural alemana y estamos bastante contentos ahí.
Lebanon Hanover es un dúo. Sin embargo, podemos ver la diferencia de ánimo y estilo entre las canciones cantadas por cada uno de ustedes. ¿Cómo se toman el proyecto?
Creo que somos dos elementos musicales muy distintos. Esta fue nuestra gran fascinación el uno con el otro desde el inicio y nunca fue difícil trabajar juntos. Algo así como una química instantánea. Adoro las líneas de bajo de William, sus ritmos y estructuras; y a él le gusta mi caótica, escalofriante, de timbre extraño voz; mis letras y guitarra. No hay un concepto ni nada por el estilo. Todo lo que queremos es sonar nostálgicos y poco producidos, porque nos irrita el sonido digital e inorgánico que escuchamos todos los días. Ya que pensamos tan similarmente, casi no hay compromiso, solo criticismo, el cual es bueno y ayuda al producto final. A veces trabajamos dos meses con una canción, hasta que los dos estamos totalmente a gusto con ella.
Su música es bastante fría, introvertida, suena como una respuesta a un mundo alienante al que le falta amor y emociones reales. ¿Cómo ven al mundo moderno? ¿Qué clase de mensaje, sentimiento, tratan de transmitir?
Son tiempos difíciles para los románticos. El mundo quiere que sobrevivamos solos, hagamos todo por nuestra cuenta y tratemos a la gente como si no la necesitáramos. Encontramos esto terriblemente triste, pues tenemos un gran anhelo por los lazos y amistades verdaderas. Pienso que la gente en general se volvió demasiado vaga como para siquiera reaccionar a la separación que tiene lugar hoy en día. El internet y los teléfonos inteligentes nos volvieron todavía más sedentarios y las verdaderas pasiones de la vida, arte, naturaleza, literatura y el amor simplemente ya no existen. El amor verdadero es algo que realmente esperamos que sobreviva, pero solo puede hacerlo cuando la gente se vuelve más individualista y autodeterminada. Los individuos son los que constituyen a la sociedad y creo que cada uno de nosotros puede hacer el cambio.
¿Qué rol juega Lebanon Hanover en tu vida? ¿Lo ves como autoexpresión, necesidad, placer, sublimación, entretenimiento, etc?
El momento de crear una canción. Vivo absolutamente para el momento en el que tomás el micrófono, te conectás con el subconsciente, te sacrificás a vos mismo ante tus melodías internas y ponés todo el corazón en una pista. La música es, para mí, la forma más honesta de arte y por lo tanto Lebanon Hanover es el centro de las vidas de ambos. No es solo un proyecto secundario o algo, es nuestra vocación y podríamos morir por ella. Lo hacemos solo por nosotros mismos. Entretener no fue lo más importante en un inicio, pero debo decir que el estar cara a cara con una audiencia y llenar el silencio de una habitación con tus propias palabras y sonido es muy conmovedor y una experiencia excitante siempre.
¿De dónde sacás la mayor parte de la inspiración estética? ¿Es de algún lugar, un tipo específico de música, otras formas de arte?
Estéticamente nos atrae el arte romántico / art nouveau de los periodos 20 y 80 del último siglo. Fotos viejas, enmarcadas en blanco y negro, películas, ropa. Amamos el estilo andrógino y recatado. Vestidos por la melancolía.
Creo que es importante que nuestra imagen refleje la depresión del siglo 21 por la que todos estamos pasando. Nuestra forma artística favorita es la literatura. Soy demasiado sensible para las películas. Demasiados efectos y la brutalidad sexual me asustan, así que pasamos nuestro tiempo libre mayormente leyendo e imaginando a los mundos convertirse en imágenes. Un poco tirando nombres de cosas que estamos leyendo por el momento: Oscar Wilde, Thomas Bernhard, Alice Schwarzer, William Wordsworth. Por supuesto la música también es inspiradora: si una banda es profunda y honestamente me gusta, como por ejemplo Malaria, Kraftwerk, DAF y los Smiths, puedo ser muy dada a ella, pero no estoy escuchando mucha música por el momento.
Hasta donde sabemos ustedes viven en Sutherland, Inglaterra. ¿Por qué se mudaron ahí?
En realidad es un lugar trágico. Nos mudamos allá más que nada porque podríamos vivir gratis en lo de los padres de William y seríamos capaces de escribir música y explorar los bosques y el mar por la noche. Fue desalentador cuando nos recluimos completamente y aislamos de la gente hermosa con la que nos hubiese gustado estar. Nos fuimos allá solo por el bien de nuestro arte. Ante todo fue un tiempo realmente productivo y pudimos escribir música y letras todos los días, que es lo que cuenta al final si es todo por lo que vivís. Pero estoy muy agradecida de que finalmente nos hayamos escapado a Alemania.
Tu remera dice “Lose your digital life” (Pierde tu vida digital). ¿Podrías elaborar?
“Lose your digital life” es una línea de una canción nueva de Lebanon Hanover. Es un ánimo, una orden de una nostálgica sin esperanza para que la gente se una en la vida real, aunque yo también soy, tristemente, demasiado dependiente del internet y me es imposible perderlo. El internet es muy informativo y una herramienta espectacular para aprender, pero la mayoría lo usa cruelmente o para distraerse. Temo por el futuro y no estoy segura de que realmente conecte a los humanos, porque después de todo no estamos “juntos” si todos están metidos en su celular en medio de una fiesta. Supongo que no hay suficientes mentes críticas.

Die Gesunden is the wunderbar release by Berlin’s Die Gesunden. Die Gesunden (translated to the healthy ones) was mostly the duo of Mabel Aschenneller and Eschi Rehm (who sadly passed away on November 12, 2008). They were also joined on drums by Thomas Wydler (who later became known for his membership in Nick Cave And the Bad Seeds). Taking influences from Kraftwerk, Roxy Music, and Eno/Bowie (who were coincidentally recording Low in Berlin at this time), Die Gesunden was one of the first Neue Deutsche Welle outfits. The self-titled LP was released in 1982 on Innovative Communication which was the independent record label formed by Klaus Schulze in 1978 after Klaus became very interested in the earliest Berlin Neue Deutsche Welle bands (such as Ideal, etc). Mabel was very involved in the Berlin scene such as promoting local gigs for the early Einstürzende Neubauten in 1981 and shows at the Exxcess club (with shows by the Cure amongst other bands in their infancy) which also inspired the birth of Die Gesunden.
Die Gesunden did fairly well around Germany with one of the highlights being a tour in 1981 supporting DAF (Deutsche Amerikanische Freundschaft). The LP is a diverse collection of songs that display a jagged electronic quality showcased throughout with hints of power electronics mixed with synth pop. The opener Die Gesunden Kommen is an upbeat track with bouncing synth leads atop treated percussion with whispered lyrics. The second track Leutnant Miller displays some of the aforementioned power electronics harshness with pleasant electronic melodies and commanding vocals. Sometimes/Manchmal is a slow and minimal track with emotional vocals and mutated synth parts with monotonous tones that are quite entrancing. Overall, the record is a very diverse listen and will surely appeal to fans of early Neue Deutsche Welle (early Der Plan) as well as proto-industrial and experimental new wave. At the same time, it is definitely one of a kind and has no record that it can be directly compared.

The band chose their name after going to see The Jesus and Mary Chain at Cardiff Students Union. Inspired by the idea of adopting a religious figure into their band name, AL MOSES were formed

Der AfD-Bundestagsabgeordnete und Justiziar der Fraktion, Stephan Brandner, hat den wissenschaftlichen Dienst des Deutschen Bundestages dazu befragt, ob es für die Bezeichnung „Prüffall“ für eine Partei, die sich in der Prüfphase durch das Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz befindet, eine gesetzliche Grundlage gibt. Im Ergebnis kommt der wissenschaftliche Dienst sogar zu dem Schluss, dass „viel dagegenspricht“, dass es eine ausreichende gesetzliche Grundlage dafür gebe, die Öffentlichkeit über „Prüffälle“ zu informieren. Außerdem macht das Gutachten darauf aufmerksam, dass das Grundrecht in Art. 21 GG Parteien davor schützt, dass „staatliche Organe negative Werturteile über die Ziele und Betätigungen einer Partei äußern.“ Brandner bewertet die Ausarbeitungen als wichtigen Schritt im Vorgehen gegen die Äußerungen des Präsidenten des Bundesamtes für Verfassungsschutz Thomas Haldenwang und als juristische Ohrfeige für diesen: „Aus meiner Sicht war also die öffentliche Bezeichnung der Alternative für Deutschland als Prüffall, wie von Haldenwang getätigt, ein Eingriff in die Chancengleichheit der Parteien und somit schlicht und einfach verfassungswidrig. Haldenwang wollte oder musste auf Geheiß seiner Vorgesetzten mit Dreck auf die AfD werfen.
