Care | Kundavai x Vallavarayan Vanthyathevan
"Kundavai! " Azlvarkkadian called out. Chendan Amudhan was carrying Devan. There were well inside the palace. After Azlvarkkadian had forced Poonkuzlali and Amudhan to take devan into the palace for more proper medication. Vanathi had seen them when they entered and had guided them through the most deserted palace seeing Vanthiyathewan's health.
"Vani, Poonkuzlali, Amudhan, Azlvarkkadian? What are all of you doing here? " Kundavai said looking at them. Then she saw the figure which was covered in a cloth and was drowsed in blood. She raised her hand and slowly started to unravel the face.
To her shock, it was the person she had held prison in her heart, the love of her life, Vallavarayan Vanthiyathewan. She just looked at him, dumbfounded. There was no smile, no playful look in his eyes. His whole body was still, sometimes churning because of the pain. She quickly kept two of her fingers understand his nose to see if he was still alive. She was able to make out the brief hot fumes coming from his nose. Tears brimmed her eyes as she took a sigh of relief. 'He is still Alive' she assured herself.
"Akka? Akka? " Vanathi called out to her. Kundavai looked at Vanathi with fear in her eyes. "How- how did this happen" She questioned them. "He saved Chendan from being killed devi! " Poonkuzlali said. Kundavai took on look at her Devan as told them to follow her.
"We must find a place where no one will enter...... " Kundavai started.    "Hmm what about your chamber? No one dares to go in there." Vanathi added.    "Yes we could do this.... But...... There will be many people visiting me in my chamber.... we can take him to my secret chamber... Which was to ise in an emergency.....No one will disturb him, no one will suspect, and the place is quite well hidden.... What do you all say" Kundavai said    Azlvarkkadian looked at others and said "I think this is the best option we have... Lead us there princess. "
Kundavai hurried down different corridors, passageways with everyone on her tail. At last she opened a small door between two pillars. They entered her room, and she instructed them to keep him on the bed. Azlvarkkadian and Amudhan gently placed Devan on her bed.
"Tell me from the start" Kundavai said as she rushed towards one of the cabinets.    "I and Amudhan were discussing about our future when we heard a blood curtelling scream from out side. When we went outside, we saw Devan laying on the ground surrounded by a pool of blood, with a dragger imbedded in his chest." Poonkuzlali said. As she said this, the muscles on Kundavai's face tightened. She looked as if she was on the verge of tears.    "Then? " Kundavai asked taking the ayurvedic ointments and medicines from one of the shelfs.    "We took him in and started to tend to him the best we can.. " Poonkuzlali began    "He said that he took the dragger to save me " Amudhan started..    "He said? " Kundavai asked    "Yes, he had gained consciousness for some time.. " As Amudhan said this Devan groaned out loud because of his pain.    "I just don't know how will I ever pay him back for this. " Amudhan said looking at Devan.
"Ok... We will talk about this later... Vanathi escort them out of the palace.. If anyone find out that they were in.. It won't end well. I will let you all know about him and thanks a lot for bringing him here." Kundavai said with a weak smile as she sat beside Devan with the ayurvedic medicines.    "And you, Vanathi, come back later"
She stared at them leaving the place. As she saw the door lock, she let herself loose a little. A few tears left her eyes but she quickly got herself together. 'I must patch him up first' she thought to herself.
She slowly started to remove his armor. His inner shirt was drenched in blood. She was trained to do basic healing. She gently removed his shirt. There was a big ghash on his chest. She took one look at him and started to tend to it.
He was wiggling a lot, along with whimpering a lot because of pain.    "Shhh" Kundavai said running her hands through his hair. She didn't like seeing him in this much pain. She felt like someone was twisting her heart as she saw him wince in pain. He then slowly opened his eyes.
He felt like he was in heaven. One moment all he could feel was pain in his chest and the next moment, after he opened his eyes, there was a beautiful women in front of him. It was Kundavai. His head started to feel dizzy. Many questions surrounded him. 'Where was he? What is the princess doing here? What happened?' He tried to get up but she gently pushed him back.
He looked at her with broad eyes. It looked like he had many questions to ask her. Just then he started to get up.    "Shh.... Don't get up. You are still unwell." Kundavai said as she kept her hands on his shoulders and gently pushed him back to his place.    "Where am I? " Devan asked flabbergasted by the princess's touch.    "You are in one of the secret chambers of mine. We had to bring to up here so no one would catch you... You are going to stay here for a while. " Kundavai said in a caring tone.
He just stared at her. After sometime he said.    "But princess I kept your promise, I promised you that I will come back and I did. Didn't I? "    "Well yes, you had to come back right? You are still a prisoner in my heart right?" Kundavai said with a mischievous smile.    "Haan, how can even forget that? That's the reason when your Anna asked me to marry Maninelalai, I told him that-" Vanthyathevan looked at her, she looked sad at the mention of her Anna, but she quickly composed herself and said "That?" With a smile.    "After I have seen a full radiant full moon, how can I find a glow worm attractive?"    "And who would the moon be? "    "That's the same question your Anna asked me... And I- I told him your name." Devan answered, blushing a bit. Kundavai was still mending him as he said it.    "And what did my Anna had to say on this? "    "He called me a rascal and told me that there were many people who would die for your hand -"    "But there's only one person's hand that i would die for" Kundavai said giving Devan a side glance. Devan smiled broadly at this statement.
He started to say something but instead started coughing out loud.    "Your throat must be dry.. I must have kept water with me... Wait a second" Kundavai said getting up but Devan suddenly grabbed her wrist.    "Please dont leave my side priye... " Devan said loosing his conciousness.          Kundavai just looked at him, dumbstruck. She knew that he was in pain and he wasn't in his right mind to think what he was saying or doing but - in a second he had grabbed her hand and had called her his priye.
She sat again and started to run her hands through his hair. She bent near his face and said "Don't worry, I will never leave your side"

Alright, i know this isn’t the kinda post one would expect on my page, but hear me out.
The poster right here is of the Tamil movie that’s releasing tomorrow, “Ponniyin Selvan”. Ponniyin selvan loosely translates to ‘River Cauvery’s son’, and this film is based on the 70 year old, 5 volume novel of Kalki.
Let me explain why this story is so dear to Tamil people, and why Indians should celebrate it just as much as they do the epics such as Ramayana and Mahabharat;
The author of this novel, Ramaswamy Krishnamurthy alias Kalki, was an Indian freedom fighter, who went to jail a few times. This novel, according to him, was a way of reminding Indians that they have a history of their own. Mind you, this is after 200 years of colonialism.
This spectacular novel is based on the Kingdom of the Cholas, and is set in the 9th century which was the peak of the Chola Empire. The story can be classified as a historic fiction, as some of the main characters are fictionalised or even completely made up in order to appease the “outsiders” that is us.
‘Ponniyin selvan’, or the Son of cauvery, is the name given to King Raja Raja Chola I. He has two siblings, Aditya Karikalan, who is the Crown Prince, and his elder sister, Kunthavai (Koon-da-vy) who is the princess of the Chola Empire and basically controlled everything. Their dad, Sundara Chola is the emperor of the Chola Empire but is bed ridden during the time of the story. All the characters I mentioned till now are real people, who have been mentioned in carvings and historic artifacts preserved till this day, but the characters I’m about to write about next are fictionalised characters by Kalki. One might think, since the title of the novel is “Ponniyin Selvan”, it only makes sense that Raja Raja Chola is the main character, but NOH. The main character, the character who travels and whom we travel with, is Vanthiyathevan (Vun-diya-devan). It is important to know that Vanthiyathevan isn’t entirely fictionalised, he is also mentioned in history, but not till the extent of the description given in the novel. Last but not the Least, my personal favourite, Nandini. She invented the word supervillain. I’m serious, the more you read about her, the more you grow to hate and like her at the same time. She’s such an incredibly written character that at times it’s so unbelievable that she’s not actually real. Her thirst for vengeance and power is what sets the course of this entire story.
Now let me give you a brief intro to this story (and try not to spoil anything eee)
Aditya Karikalan (The Crown Prince) sends his good friend and trusted messenger, Vanthiyathevan, to deliver two letters to two members of his family. His father Sundara Chola, and his sister Kunthavai. He also sends him on a mission, to find out what and who is conspiring against him in his homeland, while he’s fighting wars up north.
This journey of Vanthiyathevan, is met with a lot of hurdles and he also meets a lot of people who help him with his tasks such as his old friend Kandhamara, whom Vanthiyathevan previously fought in a battle with, Nambi, who is a staunch believer of Vaishnavism and an absolute mastermind, often wears metaphorical masks around certain people, Chendan Amudhan, who is…an interesting character (that feeling when u really wanna say something but don’t wanna spoil). What forms the plot of the story is How Vanthiyathevan delivers these messages? What is conspiring against Aditya Karikalan? Who is Nandini, and why does she want revenge?
Ok i know that was a bad summary, but i literally could not say anything without spoiling stuff.
So the main reason why I wanted to post about this was because I feel every Indian should know about the rich history of our country and the Chola Empire, which ruled the entirety of India at one point. So I urge all of you to read some background in wikipedia and watch the movie cuz its a pretty damn good story.
Fin.

Care part 2 | Vallavarayan Vanthyathevan x Kundavai
(Part 1)
Kundavai p.o.v ~
Kundavai was walking through the deserted hallways of the palace. It has been a few days after the last rituals of her Anna has been done. It had been a big shock for her, but, for her parents, people and thambi she had to keep her composer. Always. To keep her emotions intact. She knew that she won't be able to take another shock in her life, like, what was even remaining? Her lover had been falsely accused, he had ran away, God knew where he was, if he was fine, her Anna had passed away, and.... She had actually lost the track... And what more could possibly go wrong....right?
But boy was she wrong! After a few minutes of walking, she started to hear someone calling her name. The voice seemed calm but frantic at the same time. She quickened her pace and started jogging towards the sound.
Just around the corner, she saw Chendan Amudhan, Poonkuzlali, Vanathi and Azlvarkkadian ; Chendan was carrying something, which looked like a person, in a cloth and the cloth itself was covered in blood. She got confused on why were they bringing a dead .. or an injured person to her? Just then she saw the strands of hair and the hand of the person which was poking out of the cloth.
The jet black curls... The wristband..... The fingures..... The overall size of the body.... She knew who the person was even before she unraveled the face of the person. It was her Vanthyar.
Shock and terror passed through her veins in an instant. She just looked at him, dumbfounded. There was no smile, no playful look in his eyes. They were black, lifeless even... But she could dare- how could she- to think that- he was - nonono- it can't - but what if. She felt tears starting brimming in her eyes. Her hand shook as it went near his nose, having hope that he would be alive. She won't be able to live without him. She didn't even realise that she had been holding her breath
Her figures stoped just below his nose, her heart was beating rapidly. There were no fumes coming out of her nose, nor was he inhaling. No no it can't be... She quickly unraveled the cloth which was hiding his chest and what she saw, almost made her loose her ground. There was a big gash on his chest and the blood was oozing out quickly... He had lost alot of blood coming here also...... She placed her palm gently on his heart. She stayed like that for over few minutes but there wasn't even a single faint beat.
Her ears blocked out every noise. She went into pure shock. Her Vanthyar was dead. He was not there with her anymore. She would never see his mischievous smile, she would never watch the glint in his eyes, to get to hear his clever words, his flirts, his jokes, she felt as if someone had ripped a big piece of her heart. She felt her will of living flying away. She looked at his lifeless body. The pain was so much she even forgot how to cry.
She stood there like a statue as she saw her future, her happiness, her love, her life laying motionless in front of her. Her Vanthyathevan was dead, and there was nothing she could do about it. She started to feel darkness taking over her. The solid ground beneath her broke open and swollowed her.
She felt uneasy. Her eyes were closed. She was in a sitting position and her head was laying on something soft and she felt something like a hand on her head. When she remembered what had happened she quickly sat up. The hand fell directly on the bed because of the quick motion.
It was nighttime, The moon's light was poking through the balcony. She slowly lifted her hand to her forehead... It was filled with cold sweat. She looked at the person on the bed... And to her astonishment, it was Vanthyathevan! Her Vanthyar! Oh my! She quickly checked his breath. He was alive!
A cry of releif made it's way out of her mouth as she figured out it was just a dream. A dream... But it seemed so real.... But ... He was alive and it was the only thing which mattered to her now.
She pulled down his blanket and stared at his chest. She had patched up the wound but she was able to see blood seeping through the bandage. She sighed as she got up and went to her cabinet to get some extra medicines. It had almost been a day since they had brought him here.
Vanathi had been here but she had sent her away for the night. Her thambi had been keeping a close eye on Vanathi (A thing which still made her smile), and she didn't wanted her thambi to find out about Vanthyathevan just now. Vanathi had been resistant to go away, but after some insisting she did, but not before giving her akka a teasing smile, side eye, few teases and a wink.
But she didn't cared about the teasing now, all she wanted was to get her lover moving again.
After collecting all the ointments she needed, she went back toward the bed. She sat beside him and started to remove the bandage really slowly, trying to be as gentle as possible. She knew she had been crying because of the dream but the bloody bandage had the thought of wiping them away thrown out of the window. As she was removing the now bloody remains of the ayurvedic ointment, he started to churn and moan out in pain. She quickly kept the hand on his head and started to tap it, with occasionally saying few words to him. She was able to finish patching him again before he opened his eyes.
His eyes started to open slowing. He frantically looked around till his eyes rested on her face. His body seemed to relax when he saw her face.
VV P.o.v ~
As the searing pain shot through him, he woke up with a start, He started to look around frantically, feeling a bit scared, then he rested his eyes on his Ilaya piratti.
Oh the look! It made all of his pain wash away. He then noticed that she had been trying to sooth him. Her face was luminous in the bright moonlight. But then, he also took notice of the tears which were resting on her cheeks. He felt his heart shatter by seeing this, was his Ilaya piratti crying because of him? Because of his wounds? because seeing him in pain?
This thought made him sad. He didn't wanted her to feel sad or cry because or over him. He hated the fact that he was the reason why she was crying. His thoughts were fuzzy and he didn't actually had any control over his actions, but he knew that he wanted to figure out what made her sad.
3rd person's p.o.v.
"Priye.." Vanthyathevan called out to her. She had been starting at him as his face went through many emotions, but when he called her his priye, again, her ears perked up. All of her attention was on what he was saying.
   "Han?"
"Were you crying?" He asked in a serious tone.
"Na... I was a bit sad, yes, but it's all fine now."
"Aae! Why were you crying? And how is it fine all of a sudden?" He asked.
"Arre, I just had a nightmare, I was a bit disturbed because of it, yes, but was able to comfort myself after I saw you, and don't worry I am fine. And right now, all I want to do is to make you fine, for.." she stopped in her tracks. What was she supposed to tell him? The truth or the half truth.
   "For what"
"M- Battles,-" she stuttered. "- you want to fight right?" She asked
"Yes, but-" he stopped in his tracks, would it ok to her to know the actual reason? He was confused, so he just changed the topic. "- wait, but what was the dream about?"
"Do you really want to know?"
   "Yes, offcourse I do!"
"It may not be good for your health.."
"Well, my answer is still yes."
"You want to know? Fine then, listen"
"I had a dream, from when you were brought in here yesterday morning, it was sooo real. Just like yesterday. But in this version, when I unveiled you, and tried to figure if you are breathing or not, you - you-" all the confidence she had gathered to tell this to him, had flew away, she had came to that part. Tears started to brim in her eyes. Vanthyathevan noticed it and took her medicine filled hand in his own. He then slowly started to rub circles on it
"Kanne.... Please tell me." The hand gave her some reassurance.
"That- you were- you- weren't al- you were- dead. " Her voice broke as she said the last part and started to cry. When he saw her full out crying, his broke more that it ever had. He didn't like seeing his priye crying!
He put his other hand over her shoulder and pulled her close to him. She cried her eyes out, all of the emotions she had held, mainly worrying that he would die, if he would get better, came crashing down. Vanthyathevan knew it, so he just kept soothing her, by running his hands on her back. She was laying beside him basically, with her head touching his shoulder.
After a while, all he could hear was some muffled sniffs. Thinking that the crying wave was over, he slowly, with caution ofc, asked her.
"You know right, that I will always be ther for you?"
   " hmmp"
"That I will never leave you?"
   "Hmmmp"
   "And even if I die-"
"Shh! Don't say anything like that." She said getting up on her elbows. Her hair were falling on her shoulders. His hands were still resting on her. He never thought that he would ever find the Ilaya piratti Kundavai beside him.
"I am just saying, that even if I die, I will never leave you, I will always wait for you in the afterlife." These words made her smile a bit, but her eyes started to give away, she looked tired and sleepy. So he just pulled her close to him, and she then passed out almost immediately.
"I love you" He whispered before passing out himself.
Later, when Vanathi entered the room, saying the she was surprised would be an understatement. I am just saying, imagine you walking into your Best friend and her... What do you call a person who you love and he loves you back, they flirt, their families know it, or atleast have an idea about it, and they are most likely to get married to one another? Anyway, asleep. Together. With her curled up against him. With his hands around her. In one bed. When they aren't even married.
But when Vanathi saw Kundavai's peacefull face while while was sleeping; a peaceful sleep, which she has been derived from for a long time, she left the lovebirds alone. But she did tease them about it after they got married.
