U.S. customs officials are cracking down on egg smugglers.
With egg prices soaring in the U.S. over the last year, more Americans are crossing into Mexico to buy the food item and trying to sneak cartons of raw eggs along some areas of the southern border, including California and Texas.
"We are seeing an increase in people attempting to cross eggs from Juarez to El Paso because they are significantly less expensive in Mexico than the U.S.," U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Roger Maier told CBS MoneyWatch. "This is also occurring with added frequency at other Southwest border locations."
Egg prices have soared 60% in a year. Here's why.
Jennifer De La O, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection field operations director in San Diego, said in a tweet this week that her office "has recently noticed an increase in the number of eggs intercepted at our ports." Failure to declare agricultural items while entering the U.S. can carry fines of up to $10,000, she added.
Federal law prohibits travelers from bringing certain agriculture products — including eggs, as well as live chickens and turkeys — into the U.S. "because they may carry plant pests and foreign animal diseases," according to customs rules. Eggs from Mexico have been banned from entering the U.S. since 2012, according to the USDA. Cooked eggs are allowable under USDA guidelines.

The cost of processed eggs — used in liquid or powdered form in manufactured products including salad dressing, cake mix and chips — has also risen.
Those price increases are being driven by growing consumer demand along with a decrease in domestic egg supplies caused by an avian flu epidemic that has devastated U.S. poultry flocks.
Nearly 58 million birds have been infected with the disease, while more than 43 million egg-laying hens have been slaughtered, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, making it the deadliest avian flu outbreak in American history. USDA officials are investigating what caused the outbreak.
People entering the U.S. must declare eggs at the border, Charles Payne, supervisory agriculture specialist at U.S. Customs in El Paso, Texas, told Border Report. A customs officer will still confiscate the eggs and have them destroyed, but will waive the penalty for the offender.
"We don't want to issue the penalties, but occasionally we have to," Payner told Border Report. "So if you declare what you've got, there won't be an issue."

Is Burpee not a good brand for seeds?
I mean. Okay. I'm not trying to start some dumbass seedhouse drama here. Burpee seeds are absolutely ubiquitous in stores here. They're a very old, huge seedhouse that started in Pennsylvania, and over the years they've innovated the business in interesting ways and are even responsible for some famous vegetable and flower varieties.
They're also kinda the Walmart of seedhouses. Literally, in that they're what you're gonna find in Walmart, and also because they just take a very big business approach to things. Some people have been using Burpee seeds for generations and swear by them. They also have a a lot of bad reviews. A lot of their seeds are (reputedly) grown in China, which isn't a problem per se but does have the usual problems of being a good way to avoid safety and quality controls. Because it's a big business, it probably cuts corners in favor of profit. Don't imagine that when you buy from Burpee, you're buying directly from some dedicated farmer--Burpee has a network of growers they buy their seed from, and then they package and market it.
Their seeds are mostly marketed to home gardeners, and thus are targeted to a non-critical audience. That is, a lot of the people who plant the seeds will blame failures on user error, when it might well just be shitty seed. If your carrots don't come up, are you gonna write Burpee about that $3 packet of seeds? Nah, you're gonna be like "well shit guess I suck at gardening". If you buy from, say, Johnny's Selected Seed, which markets its products to mid-sized market growers, you know that THEY know that if the seed sucks and doesn't grow, people are going to come at them for lost money.
I don't think there's anything wrong with being in the store and being like "dude I wanna grow that one!" and picking up a pack of Burpee seeds. But if you're online ordering, there are a lot of great seedhouses that are really dedicated to the future of agriculture, and I'd rather buy from them.

Natural fibers have a lower environmental impact throughout manufacturing because they do not require as many chemicals as synthetic fibers. When choosing what clothing garments to buy, purchasing the ones manufactured with natural fibers is more beneficial to our environment because they can break down quickly in nature.
Polluted waters and excessive water use

Slow fashion companies encourage sustainability in sourcing, manufacturing, and consumption by emphasizing connections between raw materials, designers, craftspeople, retailers, and customers. Slow fashion does not relate to a slow manufacturing process, but rather to a concept of attention that considers stakeholders' requirements as well as the impact of fashion production on workers, customers, and ecosystems (Chhabra, Sindhi & Nandy 2022). The term “slow fashion” is used to segment and differentiate garments produced in the growth fashion model freshly; and to offer a new marketing angle on products and brands that happen to have a long heritage, durable pieces or classic designs (Fletcher 2010).
Slow fashion is also described as something long-lasting and made from recycled or natural components. Addressing Response to Customer Difficulties: Starting Point
What are the common problems encountered by CMU students nowadays?
In this journal, you will learn about our journey of finding problems and how we were able to come up with this particular product in order to achieve a more efficient and productive academic life for college students.
The first thing we did during the first week was to create a plan on how we will conduct our interview and how many prospective people we need including the college they should be from. The team agreed on making interviews by pair; one person will do the asking while the other will do the documentation.
After some interviews, we gathered all the information and shared it together with other members.
After giving it some thought, we took notes of the problems raised and created possible solutions to each of them. The next day, we interviewed another group of people for further investigation. The following is the summarization of the data gathered from respondents.

A total of 14 customers are interviewed.
And then we all gathered together to brainstorm and discuss our possible plans.
In consideration of the data’s we have gathered while conducting interviews, we noticed that there was diverse array of problems from our customers' answers. The group decided to formulate possible solutions to the problems while also considering the opportunity to profit. The most significant one was financial problems, our chosen solution for this was to construct or create a platform for a marketplace where we will play the role of a broker. It aims to give opportunities for students to:
1. Dispose of their old possessions through selling second-hand items (books, print-outs, yoga mats, swimsuits, etc.)
2. Allows them to buy items at a lesser price.
3. Easy access for available boarding houses in the area.
However, it requires a lot of estimations and assumptions and we found out that CMU already has an online marketplace.
Another best alternative we are able to formulate was the solution to the distance of the CMU market in regards to printing services. We came up with the decision to choose the printing problems to be addressed. To find out that it is currently unavailable in the local market, we are advised to manufacture the product ourselves, because formulating it on our own and managing its service function would dampen the fixed cost, causing us to hardly match the value of the product in the value the customers can afford to give which can dampen the possibility of profitability. With that in plan, we established steps to properly manufacture the product and as to where we will market it.
The group formulated the following measures:
• Collaborate with people with expertise in the making of the product (IT technicians/ Engineers)
• Interview experts as to the costs of manufacture, the processes and licenses needed to manufacture the product.
• Have the estimation as to the possibility of profitability or determine the economic value of the product in a certain point of time.
• Make a model or prototype of the product, as to the process of using it
• Devise a clear plan on whom to sell the product.
To sum up, working with other institutions to create a clear plan for marketing your product might be a smart step to access new markets, make use of pooled resources, and ultimately succeed more in the education industry. Our teamwork leads to productivity, innovation, decision-making, communication and personla growth, while also fostering strong relationships among team members.

Addressing Response to Customer Difficulties: Starting Point
What are the common problems encountered by CMU students nowadays?
In this journal, you will learn about our journey of finding problems and how we were able to come up with this particular product in order to achieve a more efficient and productive academic life for college students.
The first thing we did during the first week was to create a plan on how we will conduct our interview and how many prospective people we need including the college they should be from. The team agreed on making interviews by pair; one person will do the asking while the other will do the documentation.
After some interviews, we gathered all the information and shared it together with other members.
After giving it some thought, we took notes of the problems raised and created possible solutions to each of them. The next day, we interviewed another group of people for further investigation. The following is the summarization of the data gathered from respondents.
Data Gathered:
2 males (Agriculture Students) — lack of trash bins in Agri benches.
1 male (from CAS) — lack of trash bins and CR (no water)
1 female (from CFES) — CMU market is too far for printing documents.
1 female (from CBM) — CMU market is too far for printing documents.
2 female (Graduate students) — Financial problem.
1 female (from CVM) — CMU market is too far.
1 female (from COEd) — Slow internet.
5 females (from CAS) — Lack of benches.
A total of 14 customers are interviewed.
And then we all gathered together to brainstorm and discuss our possible plans.
In consideration of the datas we have gathered while conducting interviews, we noticed that there was a diverse array of problems from our customers' answers. The group decided to formulate possible solutions to the problems while also considering the opportunity to profit. The most significant one was financial problems, our chosen solution for this was to construct or create a platform for a marketplace where we will play the role of a broker. It aims to give opportunities for students to:
Dispose of their old possessions through selling second-hand items(books, print-outs, yoga mats, swimsuits, etc.)
Allows them to buy items at a lesser price.
Easy access for available boarding houses in the area.
However, it requires a lot of estimations and assumptions and we found out that Central Mindanao University already has an online marketplace.
Another best alternative we are able to formulate was the solution to the distance of the University Market in regards to printing services. We came up with the decision to choose the printing problems to be addressed. After considering other variables, the team has made an idea of providing a self-service, coin-generated, vendo printing machine rather than using a regular printer which needs someone to operate and provide assistance for all the time. It is super convenient and can be less hassle since we only need to provide maintenance for it for once in a while. Having this kind of behavior and attitude makes the team create a unique and successful product and/or service, it also helps the students life easier in terms of printing their outputs. Moreover, the team should not waste time on thinking of innovative ideas that can be useful not only for students but also a product and/or services that we can still benefit in the future.
