Looking for an alternative to GBBO?  Try out The Great Canadian Baking Show!  It’s so good and the whole vibe is just “lovely people getting along and baking beautiful things” (seriously, the bakes are so gorgeous, every Showstopper is nearly impossible to judge because they all take your breath away).  The hosts are funny, the judges are super nice and not afraid of spice or international flavours, and have I mentioned how jaw-dropping the bakes are?

The Great Canadian Baking Show Season 3 "Cake Week"
Let them eat cake! We recap @cbcbakingshow season 3 #cakeweek
I was reminded on Timehop that around this time last year, season 2 of The Great Canadian Baking show premiered also with Cake Week, so it is great to see season 3 open up with the same theme. While the theme is the same, we have two new hosts in Aurora Browne and Carolyn Taylor of Baroness Von Sketch Show and also one new judge in Kyla Kennaley who joins returning judge Bruno Feldeisen.

Goodbye Summer and Hello IDS Vancouver!
Every year, the end of summer reminds us that the start of IDS Vancouver begins. This year, the fifteenth edition of the design fair runs for four days from September 26-29th, 2019. It’s open to trade and the public so be sure to get your tickets here! We’re always excited to see what’s new on the Vancouver design scene and this year will be no different. Here’s what we’re planning to check out:
Amanda Huynh – Diasporic Dumplings
There will be 200+ exhibitors showcasing their collections and there is a whole program of events happening each day, so there’s a lot to cover! To take a break from the show floor, we’ll be tuning into this year’s keynote speakers cover a dynamic range of topics. One interesting topic for foodies who are also design lovers is the subject of food and the important role design plays in the future of food. Award-winning pastry chef Bruno Feldeisen, The Juice Truck co-founder Zach Berman, and Amanda Huynh of Edible Projects will be sharing their thoughts on the subject. Learn more about the talks here.
Alexandra Genis – Atoma
Speaking of food, IDS Vancouver will be hosting Edible Futures: Food for Tomorrow, a traveling exhibition by the Dutch Institute of Food & Design and presented by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. This thought-provoking interactive installation will offer multiple perspectives and encourage visitors to think about critical issues in the world today, like climate change, declining fresh water supply, loss of biodiversity, food waste, and the gap between producers and consumers. Learn more about Edible Futures here.
Alexandra Fruhstorfer
Menu
Seeing objects and furniture in settings they were created for helps add context to their design, so we’re excited to be a media partner for The Apartment, where a collection of furniture, lighting, and interior objects curated by CASESTUDY STUDIO will recreate the atmosphere and environment of a modern Danish home. The objects in situ come from brands that are shaping the Scandinavian design landscape, like Menu, Reform, Bang & Olufsen, Please Wait To Be Seated, and Tekla. Learn more about The Apartment, CASESTUDY STUDIO, and the participating brands here.
There are many more highlights from the show we can’t wait to check out, like this year’s Caesarstone installation by Dutch eating designer Marije Vogelzang, the pop-up shop our friends at Pocket are putting up, and The District where we plan to buy a few souvenirs from local makers.
Get your tickets to this year’s show here and learn more about the 15th IDS Vancouver show here.
