The Most Beautiful Adriatic Cave Is On Bisevo Island: Croatian Blue Grotto
Tumblr media
The Blue Grotto, or Blue Cave, on Bisevo Island near Vis, is one of Croatia’s most visited caves. It is located in the little bay of Balun. Thousands of speedboats, sailboats, charter guests, and tourists on boat trips visit the Blue Cave all summer long—and visitors will go to considerable lengths to view it in person.
This world-class natural wonder is best visited between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., when sunshine streams through the vault opening, illuminating the sea and white seafloor and casting a blue glow on the inside.
Boat trips from Split to Croatia’s Blue Grotto Cave begin on April 1st.
The Blue Cave is always open; however, journeys to the cave in Croatia are only available between April 1st and November 1st of each year due to sea conditions making admission difficult the rest of the year.
The inauguration of the Blue Grotto on the island of Bisevo coincides with the start of the tourist preseason in Split.
With the opening of the Adriatic Cave at the Blue Grotto, several different boat trips began, leaving Split to visit this tourist attraction and other well-known destinations in Dalmatia.

Blue Grotto Mystic: An summary of the History of the Most beautiful sea cave
In 1884, Viennese painter Baron Eugen Ransonnet introduced the world to the Blue Grotto on the island of Bisevo. His discovery launched the Dalmatian tourism industry, and the Blue Grotto or Blue Cave has since become a must-see tourist site on the Adriatic.
The Blue Grotto has been listed as a natural geomorphological monument since 1951. Nobody can deny the cave’s one-of-a-kind natural light phenomenon.
Tumblr media
According to Ransonnet, this abundant light source gave the rocks, ores, and other submerged things a silvery-bluish colour similar to that of the Capri Blue Grotto, channelling light from all sides onto the rocky reef and giving it the appearance of a sea deity’s fortress.
The geological survey of the cave in 2019 will shed more insight into the phenomenon. The bottom of the Blue Cave’s entry region and the enormous cavern are sandy and pale yellow.
When the sun shines from the east through the submerged entrance into the sandy floor of the Blue Cave, a lot of light reflects from the sand (which is lighter than the cave’s surrounding rocks, which have biogenic overgrowth) and illuminates the cave’s interior. In addition to the submerged entrance, the shelter includes two further openings, one by water and one by land.
The semi-submerged cave is home to many organisms that thrive in semi-darkness. 119 marine species were discovered in the Blue Cave during the 2019 expedition, five of which are officially protected.
Bisevo is the shining blue pearl in the crown of Dalmatian boat vacation locations!
At certain times of day, a blazing blue light appears in the cave, giving rise to the name. Bisevo’s eastern side cave is 24 metres long and 12 metres deep, with a 2.5 metre wide and 1.5 metre high entrance.

Light enters the cave through an entrance, causing the water in the cave to shine blue around midday and the cave itself to glow blue.

Is visiting Croatia’s Blue Cave or the Blue Grotto worthwhile?
The answer is unequivocally positive! Blue Grotto is one of the most spectacular marine caves on the planet.
The Blue Cave can be visited in two ways. Cruises from Split to the mainland of Bisevo Island, such as the Blue Cave and Five Island Tour from Split, are available, as are private boat cruises from Split to Mezuporat for a more abundant experience.
Blue Cave, Bisevo’s sparkling blue treasure, is a must-see natural wonder that sees a glowing blue light. The cave is short, yet it is distinctive and memorable for visitors.
