So I got the shiny charm today. Something I as a shiny hunter don't normally do.

Normally whenever I went to an outbreak and used shining power 3, I could get 1 consistently. But also plenty of times without a shiny.

I kid you not, I went to a voltorb outbreak with shining power 3 and got SIX voltorb 💀

Honestly tho, this is years off, probably more than a decade, but I hope just because we're getting a Kalosian Legends game, that they don't skimp out on giving Kalos an actually GOOD remake when the time comes.

Especially as far as Team Flare-centric characters go. They had the most potential as a villain team, and XY dropped the ball so bad with them, I would hate for a BDSP-esque remake to do the same. No joke, these guys were most of the reason I wanted Z back in Gen6.

Like, Lysandre is pretty much at the forefront of Kalos' tech and communication, and is a very influential person there, they could do something with Malva running cover-ups for Flare in the news media, the entire organization is probably full of politically powerful people given the wealth of their members (Kalos could be quite corrupt for all we know), they have this secret stranglehold on the region, and it's scary, like no one in Kalos really had any idea how fucked they were until it was (almost) too late. Even the Champion was likely completely in the dark, their strongest line of defense was a total no-show, even when the Ultimate Weapon had been raised.

We can definitely pin that on Malva tho, since she keeps all of Kalos in the dark with her job in the news media, and as a mole in the E4, she likely keeps any sensitive information from Diantha too. And she gets away with ALL OF IT. Diantha never even knows, like even as far as Masters, she doesn't seem to be aware of Malva's true allegiance. And Malva never shows any regret or anything for what she did, she tries to justify it. She's even actively hostile to the player for taking them down, and routinely threatens to burn them up where they stand. (And this is before she becomes an accessory to murder in Masters, like, this woman smiles as Lysandre prepares to have Volcanion flash-boil a couple Rocket grunts. What is wrong with her.)

Even the grunts, they're essentially a genocidal secret police of elitist fuckheads who don't give a single flying shit about throwing everyone else under the bus so long as they survive, listening in on Holocaster conversations and having some implicit plainclothes agents (showcased more in Masters tho), and given how wealthy the organization is, it would be very easy for them to make problem people disappear. Imagine if they played up that paranoia factor they have, like, you're on their radar getting into battles with them and interfering with their plans on the regular, Lysandre calls you at multiple points (and definitely knows you're the one causing trouble before the player character finds out he's their leader), you're definitely not safe.

Also, it would have been neat if Sycamore had been in on it too somehow, maybe a joint leadership with Lysandre or something with how he plays off the man's blatant bloodlust as just him being "passionate"? I was side-eyeing him my entire first playthru. But even tho that turned out to not be the case, it would have been cool if one of them tried to save the other, be it Lysandre kidnapping Sycamore to try to spare his friend from the culling, or Sycamore joining you on the front lines to try to talk some sense into his friend. It was such an interesting dynamic at the time, and it was always such a waste it barely got any development. (At least Masters and Evolutions have made steps to fix that complaint since, but still.)

Ages ago back when Legends Arceus first came out, I toyed with the idea of completing a shiny dex. (Replacing every dex picture with its shiny counterpart) I got halfway through before massive mass outbreak hunting kinda killed my motivation. But! With Eevee week in Violet finally letting me complete the entire shiny eevee family, I regained some of that former vigor and have decided to give it another go!

I won’t spam you with updates since this is first and foremost an art/writing blog, but since I mostly do submas stuff I thought some of you might be mildly interested lol.

My two rules for myself are-

1: Transferring from other games is both allowed and encouraged. Shiny hunting distortion spawns is an exercise in misery and I will not participate in its madness. Those bad boys are getting Mesuda methoded

2: I’m not doing legendaries or mythicals. While I DO have the resources to do most of them, I find legendary hunts boring and uninteresting. (It’s mostly loading screens) And they’re long!! I could maybe do it if I only had to do one… but 10ish is far far too many (especially since I’d have to replay through bdsp TWICE to even START some hunts) Hunting all the legendaries would take up most of the time if I let it

Anyway, I’ll only post about my progress every so often (less then once a week lol) but if you want to block them completely I’ll be using the tag #blue’s shiny hunting adventures

All that being said- I’m currently at about 123/224!

(Extra info under readmore for those curious)

Here’s my current list! There’s probably some errors in there (as well as spelling mistakes but everything is highlighted in red so I’ll never know what’s ACTUALLY spelled wrong) but this is fine for now lol

Shinies I’ve transferred from other games so far include:

- a shiny patcharisu that I caught in bdsp via radar

- a shiny magikarp and garados I caught in a new years event in sword AGES ago

- a shiny sneasel (+weavile dex entry) that I hunted in violet named Lady Baby

- a shiny bergmite who I hunted in Violet named Akari (who I did NOT evolve so I’ll need a new one anyway)

- a shiny umbreon and espeon who I painstakingly hatched with perfect IVS in Violet

- a shiny vaporeon who I spent AGES hunting in Violet

- a shiny flareon and glaceon who I accidentally ran into ten seconds apart from each other when I wandered into their mass outbreak in Violet

- a shiny jolteon and leafeon who I casually hunted for and found later that day in Violet

- a shiny abamasnow, rufflet (+braviary dex entry), snorunt (+frostless dex entry), toxicroak, and golduck I found randomly while playing Violet

Since starting this challenge yesterday I have found a shiny starly, chatot, remoraid (+octillery dex entry), and tangela!

I also currently am at 32 perfect dex entries and will hopefully have more by the end of this lol

And, of course, here’s my current shinies physically in Legends Arceus!

I have the fewest number of hours in BDSP out of all of the switch titles, but goddamn it I was excited about the return of the Pokéradar! The second I got the radar I wanted to try it out on Mareep, my all-time favorite shiny and one I never succeeded on in Platinum.

I stopped counting after the first Mareep, and just wanted to see how many I could catch without my chain breaking. I was able to catch three total, and evolved one up all the way to see that pretty pink Ampharos

I caught these on stream while in vc with friendos :3

If I don’t get this shiny stantler soon I am going to peel my own skin off and crumple in on myself like aluminum foil. I’ve been doing radar for it in BDSP since I got radar in the game. I stopped counting at 70 broken chains. I’ve broken four just today. Just give me the fucking green reindeer.

Man I can only assume I am late to realize that I can use the numerous Battle Points Pokemon Bank and Pokemon Home generate to break a game’s economy but this was news to me and this is huge because now I can

1. Enjoy BDSP without slogging through the Elite 4 Numerous times to have enough funds which means two things

a. I can prep to shiny hunt Arceus. This will let me stock up comfortably on balls and healing items so I can even aim for a ball of choice like a Luxary ball

b. I can radar hunt and be able to afford repels and balls with minimal effort

2. I can obtain Gorgeous Royal Ribbons which will let me become more ambitious with what Pokemon I try to make Ribbon Masters into this new era of Pokemon compatibility. I theorize that eventually there’ll be no “true” ribbon masters possible since Pikachu wasn’t available as a shadow Pokemon so I figure I can start the challenge with more Pokemon that have sentimental value to me. First up, Chrona my VC shiny Celebi and then my shiny Greninja.

So I noticed I had a bunch of unhatched Torchic eggs in my boxes in Pokémon Shining Pearl, thus I obviously had to rectify this. Whilst doing this I decided to Radar Chain whichever outbreak was happening to help pass the time. The outbreak was Farfetch'd, so my thought process was 'I'll be okay if I don't Radar Chain a Shiny Farfetch'd, not a big loss'...

Well...

OOPS! ALL FARFETCH'D!

...well that's ridiculous. Pretty, though.

So since 2022, I've been working in doing a full shiny dex in PLA. Including gender and form differences.

And the closer I'm getting to completion, the more I dread certain hunts.

I managed to find ways to hunt pokemon that would be really painful otherwise. The exclusive space-time spawns can actually be radar hunted in BDSP. You can get a ton of fossils, so you can just revive them in bulk and soft reset. And Cherrim/Cherubi can be masuda method hunted in SWSH.

The ones I truly dread are Burmy and Wormadam. The tree spawns. And I'll need 3 of both for each seperate form. I either check every tree in Arceus, soft reset honey trees in bdsp, or masuda method egg hunt them in bdsp which I personally hate doing in that game 😭

In hindsight, Let's GO, Sinnoh might have given us more to talk about than BDSP did. Never have I seen a game fall off this fandom's radar so fast. 😂

(It was such a waste of potential. Imagine if it came out after PLA and we got that lore on top of taking some more elements from Platinum, then if it had gotten the character and story fleshing-out that ORAS got, then that would have been amazing.)

At least Masters has built on Cyrus in a similar manner to what I was expecting from a DP remake, and I hope we get some interesting interactions with him and Cynthia and Cyllene and Volo when we get PLA characters added, or they could at least add to their backstories more.
