Wilderness (TV Series) | Trailer
Yesterday @primevideo released the trailer for the TV Adaptation of B.E. Jones' #Wilderness with maybe the best song/trailer match. #JennaColeman #OliverJacksonCohen #TVAdaptation #BookToTV #OfficialTrailer
Writer: B.E. Jones (Novel), Marnie Dickens Director: So Yong Kim Stars: Jenna Coleman, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ashley Benson, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Jake Anton. I’ve rarely seen a song representing a movie or a series as much as this one does. It’s a double-edged sword because on the one hand the song gives a clear idea of what the series is about but on the other it seems like a bit of a…

Some more pictures of Jenna Coleman and Oliver Jackson-Cohen in New York.
As @anotheruserwithnoname pointed out, we don’t know if they were filming when these pictures were taken, they might have just been walking around during a break.
They are currently filming Amazon prime’s “Wilderness” based on a novel by B.E. Jones.
I’m so sorry to fans of Oliver, I didn’t cut him out of these pictures, that is how they were taken.
Also, Jenna’s hair looks amazing!

b.e. jones, the author of the book that oliver's upcoming amazon prime limited series "wilderness" is based on, has seemingly confirmed the series will debut later this year.
oliver plays will taylor, the charming philandering husband of jenna coleman, he gets unwittingly drawn into her revenge scheme against him when it all goes wrong.
for those of you who don't like him playing toxic men believe it or not oliver plays the nicest most moral character in the book 🤣 i plan to put together a blog post soon of some changes they've made to the story for tv based on the imdb cast list.
the book is available in north america in paperback and audiobook and in europe in ebook kindle format..

Thoughts on Wilderness
Tumblr media
One good thing about the new TV series announcement for Jenna Coleman (“Wilderness”) is it came with a photo shot on location. I say that because while I think it’s premature to say The War Rooms isn’t happening (development hell is real and you need only look at how David Tennant seems to do a new TV series every few months), other than the announcement of Jenna being in the cast and a producer, plus a writer and director mentioned, there hasn’t been any news on that production in a year. But we know Wilderness is happening because we have photographic evidence! There are actually a number of websites and Twitter accounts devoted to tracking productions taking place in B.C.’s Lower Mainland (which includes Vancouver), so with any luck we’ll be seeing more on-location images before long assuming Jenna & Co. aren’t spending the whole time cloistered in one of the area’s studio lots. We also know they’re filming elsewhere not just in B.C. so the wealth may be spread!
Sadly, I don’t live in Vancouver so I can’t say that Jenna is hanging out in my backyard for the next while! (EDIT: Correction: they’re also filming in Alberta later this month, so who knows?)
My next job, though, will be to track down a copy of the B.E. Jones novel that Wilderness is based upon (I’ve done posts about literary sources of Jenna’s productions before, so now we can add this one to the list). I always find it interesting to read the original book and then compare with how the TV or movie adaptation does it. I read The Cry long before Jenna’s TV version and, while it was very similar in some parts it was very different in others.
So as it stands we have three confirmed Jenna productions coming our way: The Sandman (in just over a month!), Klokkenluider (whenever they get around to releasing it and I’d bet money it’ll be on a streaming service), and now Wilderness (which presumably will come out in 2023). Unknowns at the moment are The War Rooms (unless a cancellation is announced or it’s reported that Jenna is no longer involved, neither of which has happened as of this writing) and Victoria Series 4 (last I heard the series remains on hiatus) and also whether or not there will be a second season of The Sandman and whether Jenna will be involved if there is (something we could potentially hear by summer’s end depending on how quickly Netflix makes that decision).

🍿 Wilderness survives largely thanks to a mesmerising performance from Jenna Coleman - Basic Review 🍿
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
Creator (Platform): Marnie Dickens - based on the novel of the same name by B.E. Jones (Prime Video)
Publisher (Release): Amazon Studios (2023)
I'm just gonna kick off with Jenna Coleman deserves all the credit here. Wilderness (based on a book I didn't know about because I try not to unduly influence my opinion through prior research and am now giving up on the whole read-the-book-first mantra) is a haphazard collection of tropes that would've sunk the series if not for Coleman's exemplary performance as Liv Taylor.
So, what are these tropes? Well, there are a few, but primarily it's the source of the show that provides the most glaring: a hysterical woman makes hysterical choices after her one-dimensional husband cheats. The ensuing chaos is...underwhelming, with tension only really coming into play in the show's last two episodes. The road there likes to repeat itself and the consequence is a story that only sizzles and never pops.
However, Coleman inextricably pulls all the dangerously frail threads into a believable and riveting character arc. The cast does fine, but there's no real development set aside for them, so it's up to our main actress to do the heavy lifting and do the lifting she most definitely does. Able to sell any emotion, Coleman showcases the gentle's descent into madness, turning what could've been an overlong trudge into a trial of fire that births a psychologically complex character.

Yankee Doodle in Berlin (1919, F. Richard Jones) / Love (1919, Roscoe Arbuckle) / The Grocery Clerk (1919, Larry Semon) / High and Dry (1920, Jack White)
An older man with a skinny face and eagle nose, Hayes joined Keystone in 1914, and until 1918 was seen playing various irritable fathers and Keystone cop chiefs in more than 40 Keystone and Sennett comedies.
Born in San Francisco, Hayes debuted on the stage in 1918 and appeared with Harvey Cook and Laurette Taylor, before entering films. Hayes left Sennett to become a member of the Fox Sunshine company in the late 1910s, and worked in Fatty Arbuckle's Comique comedy Love (Par 1919). In 1920, he appeared with chimp comedians Joe Martin (Prohibition Monkey for Universal) and Snooky the Humanzee (A Trayful of Trouble for Chester). Sometimes Hayes played roles in drag — usually as frighteningly ugly harridans. Hayes' drag appearances included Sennett's feature Yankee Doodle in Berlin, Larry Semon's School Days (Vitag 1920) and the Mermaid Comedy Sunless Sunday (Educ 1921). He appeared in features up to his death, including A Hoosier Romance (Selig 1918), Cupid Forecloses (Vitag 1919), The Lure of Egypt (Federal-Pathé 1921), Souls in Bondage (Sanford 1923) and Greed (M-G-M 1924).
His daughter Venice Hayes worked as an actress at Keystone circa 1915, and his son Ward Hayes also worked at Keystone and later become a director. Frank Hayes died of pneumonia at 52, in his home not far from the Sennett studio. He left wife Lottie H., sons Ward and Chris, and daughter Venice, and was buried in San Francisco.

EXCLUSIVE: Jenna Coleman (The Serpent) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Invisible Man) have been cast as co-leads of Amazon Original drama series, Wilderness, from Firebird Pictures. Filming begins this month in the U.S., Canada and UK, with the series launching on Prime Video next year in over 240 countries and territories.
Written and created by Marnie Dickens based on B.E. Jones’ novel of the same name, Wilderness revolves around British couple Liv (Coleman) and Will (Jackson-Cohen) who seem to have it all: a rock-solid marriage; a glamorous new life in New York thousands of miles from their provincial hometown; and still young enough to feel that their whole lives are ahead of them. Until Liv learns about Will’s affair. Heartbreak is swiftly followed by another emotion: fury. Revenge is her only option, and when Will proposes a trip around America’s epic National Parks to give their relationship a fresh start, Liv knows just how to get it…Wilderness is a twisted love story, where a dream holiday and a supposedly “happily-ever-after” quickly turns into a living nightmare.
Wilderness is directed and executive produced by So Yong Kim (Lovesong) and executive produced by Elizabeth Kilgarriff and Dickens and produced by Firebird Pictures.
“I’m very much looking forward to getting on the road, into the wilderness and the depths beyond,” said Coleman. “Working alongside Oliver, we will be exploring the boundaries of a relationship that is tested in unimaginable ways and in the hands of the wonderful So Yong Kim, Marnie Dickens and Liz Kilgarriff at Firebird Pictures. I know this is going to make for an extraordinary trip.”

so now we know why oliver and jenna followed each other a couple of weeks ago. it looks like they've already started working on it since that's a picture from set!
i've had a few people in my inbox guessing what project might've had ashley benson and eric balfour also following oliver and jenna, and oliver following them both in the last week. according to their instagrams, ashley and eric also are in canada working on something that also started shooting this week . . . it's too random so my best guess is that they are also in wilderness.
either way yay! more ollie content coming in the next year!
