Presentation
On dec 10 at 1:30 I listened to M. Jarosz give a presentation on Adaptive Reuse. I think that is very resourceful to use old buildings for a different purpose. I know my parish's old church building became a gymnasium. They really liked the high ceilings.
The people around me were all focus all Jarosz and what was shown. I knew I was engaged because I was making connections and thinking about how much Adaptive Reuse is impactful. In any speech I give I strive to have the audience volunteerily paying attention to me because it shows to me that I am doing a great job.
What I noticed in the presentation is how Jarosz transitioned so easily form one topic to the next and did not have a monotone voice. These are the 2 main work ons I have for giving speeches. The transitioning were smooth bc they connected/ related one topic to the next.
Overall, Jarosz was confident, had clear speaking, and good volume just ad any good presenter should have. I will always continue trying to be a better public speaker. I used to be so bad at it but when I saw improvement it gave me confidence that I could do better than I thought.
(I thought I had tagged this when I first posted it)

1) The first picture is a place that ive been. Its a tower in South Aftica that is completely hollow. While this might be a bit impractical it makes for a really unique look and feel for the building.
2) the seccond building is a buidling in my town that clearly stands out. Its a victorian style home and the red makes it pop even more.
3) the thirs building is a building that inspires me. Most of the reason this building is so insportational is that when building they realized they would have a problem with wind at the hight they were building so they created the spiral to help the wind flow around the building instead of hitting the building head on

My name is Jake Mathiasen. I have always loved the idea of architecture. It all started when I was just a kid playing with legos. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago so I was constantly in the city admiring all the buildings in the city. I love to design different things and draw. I have been drawing for most of my life. I usually draw different cartoons. I took a cad class in high school. I also like how you can see the final product in this field.

Hello! My name is Cassandra, but I go by the nickname Cassie. I am from a little town called Channahon. Some of my hobbies include reading, hiking, kayaking, and playing video games. One of the things that lead me to have an interest in architecture is my love of designing things. This lead to me taking 2 classes on architecture in high school. This is where I began to love the subject.

Arch 190-002 Intro
My name is Lynsey and I am from Oshkosh WI. I was drawn to the career of architecture due to the fact that, my city has many unique historical building and beautifully crafted homes. Growing up in an area with such vast architectural beauty inspired me to consider architecture as a career.
My favorite building or built landscape that I've visited is Buckingham Palace. I admire its detailed design and evolution of structure over time. The palace was first constructed in 1703 and has been added to and build up over the years into what it is today.

My favorite building from my hometown or a region in which I've lived is The Paine. Designed by architect Bryant Fleming, the Paine mansion is a 1920’s Tudor Revival-style house inspired by English country estates. Fleming varied the house’s interior and exterior architectural features to give it the appearance of being built over three centuries in evolving English styles. It was originally built to be a home but now is a museum in my hometown, Oshkosh.

My favorite building or built landscape that I admire for its innovation is the Washington Building in Oshkosh. Washington Place Historical Flats- The Washington Building was built in 1913-1914 for the Fraternal Reserve Association which was architecturally significant to Oshkosh because it is a good example of the Neoclassical style that was popular in the first part of the twentieth century. The building was designed by Oshkosh architect Henry Auler. Auler, who had been employed by the well known William Waters & Son for many years, founded his own firm in 1907. The building was recently renovated into apartments while taking precautions to preserve its historical features.

These are 3 of the photos I took af the art museum which may or may not show a good representation of the human scale. The 1st one Large Seated Woman by Alberto Giacometti does not line with the human scale bc all the features are heavily elongated. The 2nd one Mary Sophia Carroll by Thomas Sully overall does but I think the person is painted a little too thinly. I thick the neck should have been a little thicker. The 3rd one is a self portrait of Andiende Clermont. It has human proportions bc just about everything lines up well.

The Interlace Building is located in Singapore. This unique building looks like rectangles irregularly stacked on top of each other. The Interlace holds 1000 apartments. I love the large windows and the plain white exterior that makes the building standout with the nature surrounding it.

Experiencing Architectural School
This article was very interesting to read. While there are many things that I took away from this article there are a few that stood out to me. For example the intense workload that comes with the first year of studio continues to be intimidating and daunting to think about. In addition to this the fact of how much we will be learning in the next few years was amazing to me. One of the last points that really stuck with me was the jury review that occurs within this major. I had never heard about this before reading the article and found it very interesting about how students get to present their work to be reviewed. Overall, this was a very intriguing article that I was glad to be able to read.

This project really caught my eye, I wasn’t able to see the presentation so I am not certain what the exact purpose is. But, to me, it looks like they took an unused space and created a cool hang out area. It was really interesting to see how it looked before and then what their proposal would make it look like. They also showed the topography of it to show you the sizing of the hills.
To me, this project looked really fun to hang out at. It reminded me of when I was younger my friends and I would roll down the biggest hill in our town for hours, just for fun. Even if you are not a kid it still would be a nice place to get back to nature, and if you sit behind the hills you get a sense of privacy. I could see students going there to do homework, families going on picnics, and friends just hanging out there.
