After going to the Milwaukee Art Museum for the first time last week, I was very surprised. The first time I saw the building, I fell in love with it. It is such a unique structure and the architecture of the building is beautiful. On the outside the museum looks like it is very large on inside with some smaller rooms. When I walked into the tip of the museum with all the windows and the tall ceilings, it immediately became my favorite part of the building. I hate crowded places. The celings made everything feel so open and free. The large windows also made me very happy. The natural light was very nice and there was a beautiful view of the lake. I think the architect of the museum did a great job regarding the scale of the body. The spaces inside the museum were all very unique and different from anything I have seen before. I think the scale the architect used makes the museum even more special and more fun to visit. Finally, I enjoyed the exhibits I visited while I was there. The rooms had nice lighting and I enjoyed the wood floors and colored walls. The white celings also made the areas feel a little more open. These factors made the paintings and sculptures pop. Overall, I really enjoyed my first visit to the Milwaukee Art Museum. The style of the building and the interior really inspired me to create things that are unique and different.

After researching multiple different projects for my design, these are the ‘best practices’ I found that stood out to me. The first picture shows a open glass structure which allows a lot of natural light to enter the structure. The second picture shows a pavilion that is lit up by solar power lights during the night. The stucture stands out and is very visible. The third picture shows a wood bench made from a natural piece of wood. I want to design my pavilion to have a lot of glass so natural light can enter, solar powered lights so my pavilion can be energy efficient and be visible at night, and have small beautiful details such as natural wood benches. I think all these factors would help make my design pop and appeal to more people.

My Reactions To “Experiencing Architectural School”
After reading the section from “Experiencing Architectural School”, I was a little scared. The author talks about the work load in a very negative way. The author describes the amount of work that is assigned throughout the first year of school and how stressful the work load can be. So far the work load I’ve received has stressed me out a little bit however, I’m scared it will only get worse from here. After reading this section, I was also stressed. The author writes about how important time management is and how there is a deadline almost every other day. If I fall behind on my work I will have a very large work load and will be stressed out. The amount of work and deadlines I will face in the future stresses me out a little bit. I’m excited to take on the challenge however. Finally, after reading this section, I was happy. The author of this text makes architectural school sound very rewarding. The author writes about the amount of great people you meet throughout your time in school and how architectural school is it’s own community. I’m happy and excited to meet so many new people throughout the next couple years. I’m very happy that I’ve joined a community where everyone has each others back.

My name is Jake Mathiasen. I have always loved the idea of architecture. It all started when I was just a kid playing with legos. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago so I was constantly in the city admiring all the buildings in the city. I love to design different things and draw. I have been drawing for most of my life. I usually draw different cartoons. I took a cad class in high school. I also like how you can see the final product in this field.
