This is not my usual tumblr nonsense, but I was talking to someone on the ferry back to Aomori about places in Japan that I particularly love. So in case any of you are planning a trip, in no particular order, these are my current top 5 places in Japan.
Ise, Mie Prefecture (location of the Ise Grand Shrine, the most sacred Shinto site. Visit the outer and inner shrines, check out the Meoto Iwa/married rocks, eat udon and mochi, and buy some pearls.)
Iya Valley, Tokushima Prefecture (one of the most remote places in Japan. Take a river cruise through the Oboke Gorge, visit a historic village, walk across one of the vine bridges, and eat soba. Caveat: best experienced with a car.)
Yamagata, Yamagata Prefecture (walk up the 1,000 steps to Yama-Dera, relax at Ginzan Onsen or Zao Onsen, go to the Three Mountains of Dewa, eat beef and cherries, if they're in season. If it's winter and this is your thing: ski.)
Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture (visit Matsumoto Castle, which is original not a reconstruction, go to the art museum and the ukiyo-e museum, check out the historic shopping streets, cafe hop, eat oyaki and soba.)
Hakodate, Hokkaido Prefecture (see the view from Mt. Hakodate, check out Motomachi, the old European quarter, walk around Goryokaku Park, eat seafood at the morning market, and don't skip the milk flavor ice cream. Hokkaido is famous for dairy.)
You may have noticed that there are food recommendations attached to all of them. Everywhere in Japan has at least one local speciality that you are contractually obligated to eat. I don't make the rules.

Aomori, Ancient History and Nature
Aomori is the northernmost prefecture of Japan’s main island, Honshu, in the region called Tohoku. A gem relatively unexplored by tourists but offering dreamy natural landscapes and virgin forests, the country’s most delicious apples, pictorial art in the rice fields, higher quality sake drinks, gourmet seafood, unique festivals, historical and natural treasures of humanity, and winter sports for the more active.
Several of Aomori ‘s attractions are located in its capital city of the same name, the most famous being the Nebuta Matsuri , a festival that takes place from August 2 to 7 each year . In this popular summer festival, huge colorful “floating” lamps are paraded through the streets and displayed with great pride. Each of these lamps takes a year to build, and they typically feature themes from Japanese mythology or even pop culture.
And if it is not possible for us to visit Aomori during August, it is possible to enjoy the spirit of this festival and admire elements of it, in the Nebuta Warasse museum, located in the civic center of the city. This artistic space displays various lamps used in previous festivals, as well as performances by musicians and dancers involved in the festival on weekends and holidays.
Honoring its impeccable sea and wonderful marine fauna, the Furukawa and Augu markets offer its visitors the highest quality marine products, frequently exported with the highest gourmet index. And if you prefer flavors closer to the earth, you can’t stop trying the delicious Aomori apples, famous throughout Japan.

Ohayo! If you’ve been daydreaming of stepping into a land where delicate, pink petals rain from above and blanket the ground below, you're in the right place. Japan, home of the magical phenomenon known as 'sakura', never ceases to captivate with its iconic cherry blossom season. Get ready to venture with me through the top ten locations for the cherry blossom spectacle.
1. Yoshino, Nara
Our first pit-stop, Yoshino, is a stunning mountainous region awash with over 30,000 cherry trees. Yes, you read that correctly! Can you imagine a better way to commence your cherry blossom chase?
2. Shinjuku Gyoen, Tokyo
Next, we swing by the heart of Tokyo, landing at Shinjuku Gyoen. The park hosts not just one, but multiple varieties of cherry trees. No matter when you arrive during the season, you'll catch some blossoms in their prime.
3. Hirosaki Castle Park, Aomori
Famed for its vibrant Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival), Hirosaki Castle Park is the stuff dreams are made of. The castle, pond, and of course, breathtaking cherry blossom trees make perfect postcard material. Don't forget to spot petal-filled boats gently floating on the castle's moats!
4. Ueno Park, Tokyo
A combination like no other – Ueno Park houses both stunning sakura trees and intriguing museums. An afternoon under the cherry blossom canopy here is time well spent.
5. Himeji Castle, Hyogo
Majestic is the word when we talk about Himeji Castle during sakura season. The striking white castle surrounded by cherry blossoms creates an ethereal scene that belongs on the canvas of a master painter.
6. Maruyama Park, Kyoto
Kyoto, Japan's old capital, invites visitors to Maruyama Park to see Japan's most famous (and huge!) weeping cherry tree. Trust me, it's a sight to behold, especially at night when it's illuminated against the dark sky.
7. Lake Kawaguchi, Fujikawaguchiko
At Lake Kawaguchi, you get two Japanese wonders in a single frame - the enchanting Mt. Fuji backdrop to your cherry blossom viewing! This picturesque destination is a gem you should definitely add to your bucket list.
8. Osaka Mint Bureau, Osaka
Osaka Mint Bureau with its cherry garden will be your love-at-first-sight spot. Only open for one week in April, it parades late-blooming yaezakura trees, featuring blossoms with more petals than the common somei yoshino trees.
9. Kanazawa Castle, Kanazawa
Kanazawa Castle, another location where enchanting sakura landscapes weave magic. The Kenroku-en Garden located next to the castle is a spectacle of mellow pink and white hues of cherry blossoms in spring.
10. Takato Castle Park, Nagano
Ending our list on a high is Takato Castle Park, no less than a grand finale for your sakura pursuit. Renowned as one of Japan's top three cherry blossom spots, it's truly a paradise for sakura lovers.
Setting out on this cherry blossom journey is like stepping into a sensory painting of delicate pinks and whites, lively outdoor festivals, and joy-filled 'hanami' picnics. So brace yourself, Japan's iconic sakura season waits for no one. Gear up, and hop on this ethereal journey that celebrates the transient beauty of nature. And remember, as the cherry blossoms teach us, life is breathtakingly beautiful, but it is also incredibly fleeting, so enjoy every moment!FOLLOW FOR MORE WWW.AABEE.IN

tokyo tohoku trip - day 4.
waking up early morning after a good sleep, we enjoyed another scrumptious buffet breakfast at the resort, i really do love all the food options they offer, japanese variety is just so good, and the western side is amazing too, fresh ingredients and also cooked in very appetizing and delicious ways.
before checking out, we had to also visit the other onsen that is a short walk away from the main buildings, as both my friend and i love onsen so so much, this onsen is an indoor one, and it is also very very comfortable to soak yourself in and just chill. i really can’t get enough of onsen.
our destination is morioka in iwate prefacture, which is south of aomori. the shinkansen ride is comfortable and we were very surprised to still see snow when we arriived, as my friend has lived here many years during her studies, this place almost never snows although the weather gets cold. snow did make the town scenery much more beautiful and aesthetic though.
our lunch place is a popular and iconic noodle place - pairon 白龍 本店, which sells jyajyamen, a variety of black sauce noodles 炸酱面, which originates from china. the noodle they used is thick and fat, has a chewy texture which is enjoyable. they put lots of green onions and cucumber with the meat sauce. meat sauce is quite salty though. mix it all up and you may slurp your noodles away, the store do provide aprons to protect your clothes from the black sauce. when you have about two or three bites left, you may hand your bowl back to the staff and they will add soup to your remaining noodles. it is interesting to see how a simple noodle dish transform in order to allow customers to enjoy the different ways of having noodles. it is worth trying this once as it is one of the three famous noodles in morioka.
after lunch, we decided to stroll around the town, the sakurayama jinja 桜山神社 is just a few minutes walk away and the place is so picturesque and great for photos and just to enjoy the beautiful scenery. the river side view is also amazing, simply covered with lots and lots of snow, it was somewhat calming and relaxing and everywhere you see, it looks like a wallpaper. we visited a local sake brewery 酒蔵あさ開 as well, to get some local sake as souvenir. the staff here is very friendly and we tried a few sake while browsing, they also offer a tour if you make reservation in advance. after getting sake, we went to a cafe to relax, this is one of my friend’s recommendation as her favorite spot, 茶廊車門, we ordered coffee and just chit chat and watch snow from the window. the cafe interior is very old with lots of history, lots of miniature decorations which is interesting.
our last stop before leaving morioka is to have dinner at my friend’s favorite izakaya - MASS~かまどのある家・酒をよぶ食卓~. my friend did make a reservation in advance as space is very limited as well. the izakaya staff is very friendly and nice, we ordered lots of food based on their recommendations - sashimi, meat tartare, steamed vegetables, oden, fried fish, grilled pork, and hojicha ice cream too. the alcohol selection here is mainly japanese sake and soju. during the meal, my friend’s friend also came over to say hi as they have not seen each other for quite a long time, it was a great time chatting and get to know each other, it’s a super interesting and enjoyable night, completely stuffed and satisfied with the good food as well.
taking the shinkansen again, we travel towards south, while my friend is heading back to tokyo as she has some work to take care of, i stopped at sendai to stay a night and explore. i got to my hotel quite easily as i booked a place that is close to the station. then i went to the nearby convenient store to see what food and snacks they have to offer, as this is one of the charms of travelling to japan, visiting the convenient store. i bought some snacks for the night and decided to come back again tomorrow morning to get breakfast since i did see some interesting new food.
heading back to the hotel, the best way to unwind and relax is to soak in the bath. the hotel is really nice to also provide bath powder and other toiletries and coffee and tea options too, and they also provide pajamas which is super convenient, so i don’t have to bring pajamas in my suitcase, it helped to save luggage space.
to be continued...

Tengami fox shrine
Tumblr media
TENGAMI FOX SHRINE FULL
TENGAMI FOX SHRINE SERIES
More details hereģ. Sasuke Inari Shrine Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture – A pleasant 20-25 minute walk north of the Great Buddha takes you to this quiet and tranquil place. These foxes have come from all over Japan and, having done their job of protecting their shrines (too old or broken?!), now rest here in retirement. Takayama Inari-Jinja Shrine Tsugaru, Aomori Prefecture – Another one that requires some effort to get to but the reward is not just plentiful torii gates but a path leading down to the water lined with a long row of stone foxes in all different poses.
TENGAMI FOX SHRINE FULL
At the rear of the main shrine are hundreds of stone foxes, some covered in moss, lining the perimeter and leading to another shrine packed full of white ceramic figurine foxes. Jozan Inari-Jinja Shrine Matsue, Shimane Prefecture – This shrine lies just beyond Matsue-jo castle but is within the moat and it’s grounds. Toyokawa Inari Tokyo Betsuin Motoakasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo – Although Inari is often associated with shrines, this Tokyo branch is actually a Buddhist temple with remnants of shrine influences such as the torii gates and hundreds of foxes on display! This is something of a hidden gem in Tokyo. Tourists come here for the sight of the many bright red torii gates meandering their way down towards the turquoise-blue ocean but there is a folkloric fox story relating to the place which goes back many decades and involves a white fox visiting a local fisherman in his sleep. Motonusumi Inari Shrine Nagato, Yamaguchi Prefecture – Not the easiest place to get to but well worth the effort. This shrine is one of the most popular tourist spots in all of Japan due to it’s never-ending torii gates that wind up the mountain. More details hereĨ. Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine Fushimi-ku, Kyoto – The most famous entry here. Look closely at the floor on entry and you can see some mysterious fox foot prints in the cement. Shōzoku Inari Jinja Kita-ku, Tokyo – A tiny shrine but a really important one as it marks the starting point for the annual Fox Pageant on New Years Eve. However, there is this major centre of Inari worship which can be the final port of call on an eight gods of fortune tour of the area. Anamori Inari Shrine Haneda, Ota-ku, Tokyo – Unless you live out here, it’s very rare that you’d come out this way for anything other than the nearby Haneda Airport. Luckily, there’s always time for a compilation post or two so here are the best fox-related shrines in Japan that I’ve been to thus far…ġ0. However, they’re mostly in Kyushu so with travel restrictions at the moment it might be a while until that trip is realised. Sad times indeed but there’s still a few more places I want to check out.
TENGAMI FOX SHRINE SERIES
The surprisingly successful ‘On The Fox Trail…’ series is pretty much on it’s last legs.

King of Prism Road to Shiny Seven Stars 2 Main Story translation
Tumblr media
Good Afternoon! The Steamy Hot Spring Tag Battle
Since this is the second event in the Road to SSS series, you may want to read the first one if you haven’t yet:
Road to SSS 1 Main Story
Translators Notes: You also may want to watch episode 39 of Rainbow Live if you haven’t yet. (Even if you’ve never seen Rainbow Live before. Just watch it anyway trust me ahah.) I LOVE this event. Nothing happens in it. Haha no that’s not true. This event actually sets up the plot for the entire Road to SSS series of events. But before and after that it’s just a bunch of connecting scenes of the boys being boys. And that amazing ending!! It’s classic and even funnier than I remembered it being. This event is the kind of filler I could only dream of being able to see in the anime someday. Oh, and rock/paper (without scissors) is a way of making teams. That wasn’t a typo ahah.
(One morning, at the Edel Rose dorm…)

Yukinojo: I see… Things have been hectic with the new school year. Maybe you built up some stress without realizing it?
Leo: Now that you mention it… I think you may be right, Yuki-sama. Are you tending to your bonsai tree?
Yukinojo: Yes. However, it’s not going too well. But I guess a bonsai can’t be built in a day…
Tumblr media
Leo: ….?
(I don’t really know what he’s getting at, but Yuki-sama sure seems unhappy.)
Don’t worry! I’m sure Mr. Bonsai Tree will come to understand how much you care about him.
Yukinojo: Leo… Heheh, thank you.
Tumblr media
Leo: N-No problem. It was nothing.

Minato: ~ ♪ Yup, almost time for harvest.
Leo: Minato-san! Good morning!
Minato: Saionji? Good morning. You’ve been waking up early recently.
Leo: Yeah, I have. For some reason I just can’t sleep well… *yawn*

Minato: If that’s the case then I’ll whip you up some black tea with freshly picked herbs! That will wake you right up.
Leo: Wow, this turned into my lucky morning! Thank you so much!
Minato: I’ll start making breakfast as soon as I’m done watering the garden.
Leo: Yay!
(Inside)

Kakeru: Hmmm… as usual the price of oil is high…. If the price of materials keeps rising it will drive up the price of commodities… Someone has got to do something before it’s too late….

Kakeru: Hm? What is it, Leo-kyun? If you keep staring at me with those pretty doe eyes of yours, you’re gonna make me blush ♪
Leo: Oh, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to stare!

Tumblr media
Leo: I’ll take it!
Kakeru: …Slow down there. Are you feeling a little sleepy? It looks like you’re starting to get bags under your eyes–
Leo: WAH! D… Don’t look…!
Tumblr media
Taiga: …….
Kakeru: Hm? Was that…
Leo & Kakeru: Taiga-kun!? / The delinquent!
Kakeru: He’s always the one who sleeps in the latest. What’s he doing up so early? I smell something fishy….
Leo: And carrying such a big bag with him… He’s not just going out for a walk, is he….

Taiga: ….. *glances left and right*
*tip toe, tip toe*
Kakeru: Leo-kyun, what are you doing?
Leo: Ah! (I automatically hid myself like I was doing something sneaky!)
Taiga: ….Okay. I’m not forgetting anything am I?
(At around the same time, in the mountains somewhere)

Louis: Wow, look! All the green scenery is so beautiful!
Alexander: Yo. Louis Kisaragi. I’m gonna take a nap. So wake me up when we get there. Got it?
Louis: Hey, Alec-kun. What kind of a job do we have today again?

Alexander: …O.. Oh yeah… Hm? That mountain….
Louis: …Is that steam rising up?
Staff: Yes! This area is famous for hot springs!
Louis: Hot springs….

Kouji: Are you two ready?
Kazuki: All set! Hiro, don’t forget anything.
Hiro: Wait a sec, Kazuki. Why are you only telling me that.
Kouji: Ahah. It’s a little exciting to think the three of us are actually going on a road trip.

tokyo tohoku trip - day 2.
woke up after a nice sleep to head to the hotel restaurant for breakfast, i really really like japanese hotel breakfast because it’s buffet and there are so many choices to pick from, most of them are locally sourced ingredients too, you get to try so many things in small amount at once.
since aomori is famous for their apples, the hotel serves apple pie, apple sorbet, apple curry, and of course fresh apples. both the japanese and western selection taste so good, i was completely stuffed, just to eat all the food that i like. the variety and taste is simple awesome.
after breakfast, i head out to the nebuta museum warasse ねぶたの家 ワ・ラッセ, which is a popular spot for tourists to visit to view the giant nebuta floats. the floats are used during the featival in summer and, after that, stored in the museum for viewing, until next year. each float has a story behind it, and the people or company who sponsored or made it, it was a very interesting visit. all the floats are also beautiful, all handcrafted by talented people, it’s definitely worth the visit to enjoy the beautiful culture.
after that, my friend has arrived from tokyo, so we head to aomori gyosai center 青森魚菜センター for the popular nokkedon のっけ丼. this fish market is quite small but they have an iconic food item which is basically a seafood rice bowl, however, you get to pick and choose what goes into your bowl by visiting the stalls inside the fish market. it’s quite an enjoyable experience to just shop for what you want to eat and get served this way, definitely try it as the seafood is also very fresh, mostly caught nearby and probably on same day as well.
we did have a very enjoyable and satisfying meal, the seafood is just so yummy, and eating them raw and by it owns, you get to enjoy the freshest and most original taste. scallops are very famous in this area, so it’s a must try. also do try the local fishes recommended by the stalls as well, as some of them are really not well known outside of this place.
after filling up our stomach, we head over to another nearby market, auga fresh market アウガ 新鮮市場, to browse and check what is available, as we will be purchasing some ingredients to be cooked for dinner tonight. many stalls are closed on sundays though, so the place is rather quiet as well.
as we still have time before taking the shuttle bus to our accommodation tonight, we decided to take a short break at a factory, which is a popular souvenir store just next to the nebuta museum and very close to the station. this place also sells all sorts of food that is popular around aomori. we bought an apple pie to share with coffee. the pie was so good, as the apple is yummy and not overly sweeten or seasoned, original taste is always the best. watching snow while sipping coffee is surely a nice way to pass time.
just before catching our shuttle bus, we went back to the fish market to get some fresh ingredients, and then collected luggage and went to the meet up point. the bus would take us to sukayu onsen, a very popular national onsen resort with many many years of history. this onsen resort in located up the mountains, and we get to see so much snow during the bus ride, the entire place is just white, covered with fluffy snow.
i was really excited with the snow as it’s just so beautiful, and it was also fun to catch it and just play around. after checking in at the hotel, we did played in a snow for a short while, took some photos and just admiring the beautiful snowy scenery.
we then take quick rest, before starting to prepare for dinner tonight. as this onsen is famous for its medical benefits, they are people who stay here long term for healing treatments, hence the resort provides kitchen and utensils for the guests to cook. we had a fun time preparing our meal, my friend did all the cooking and i just helped out from the side, she’s amazing.
she made a whole bunch of food which filled up our table completely - fish miso soup, sashimi, grilled shellfish, pickles, grilled fish, and white rice. it was such a yummy and heartwarming meal, never expect to get this experience in an onsen resort as a tourist, it’s truly unique.
after the meal, we rested for a while before heading to the main attraction - onsen! the unique point of this resort is that there’s a huge onsen which is shared by both male and female, and it’s so spacious that it fitted 1000 people at the same time in the past. shared onsen is super rare in japan, as you would probably imagined as everyone has to be naked in the bath. so there’s 2 hours a day when the onsen is reserved for females only, 8 to 9am and 8 to 9pm. during this time, women can enjoy this huge onsen by themselves without worries, so of course we went, it was really huge. the water is very nice and relaxing, it just feels amazing being in onsen, your whole body gets to be pampered both physically and mentally as it is just very soothing and healing.
even after 9pm, it is still possible to stay in the bath as we found an area where there’s a separator that blocks the view from the men’s side, what a great strategy, and we did enjoyed the bath as much as we wanted, and it’s also great that it’s almost empty as well. there’s so much to learn about onsen culture, it’s definitely one of my favorite thing to do in japan, as enjoying onsen is a one of its kind experience that i am addicted to, since my first experience many years ago.
the night just unwinds slowly with lots of chit chat and some light local beer, it was an amazing day with many new experiences for me and i’m grateful to my friend who brought me to the famous onsen, which is her favorite onsen of all times, as this is a very local experience, there’s almost no foreigners in this place, definitely no english at all, so it’s a truly authentic and unique charm that i get to enjoy. =)
