I’m back from my vacation (and social media unplug) and feeling so recharged! It was one of the best trips of my life, and I’m so grateful for all the sunny weather, delicious plant-based food, time spent with my love @timscottbennett , and life-changing animal encounters in the wild as we roadtripped to Key West. 🏝 Some of my favorite nature encounters include: 🐢 Snorkeling with a loggerhead sea turtle and NINE spotted eagle rays, in addition to a beautiful array of marine life, such as rainbow parrotfish and beautiful purple sea fans. 🦌 Standing completely still for 10 minutes in hopes that the sound I heard in the distance would be a Key deer, and then being rewarded with a gorgeous view of two of them! (And then spotting several more from the car!) 🛶 Kayaking among thousands of upside-down jellyfish and a Portuguese man o’ war! 🐣 Walking on a boardwalk surrounded by rookeries that were home to hundreds of wood storks, many of whom were BABIES! 🐦 Frigate birds everywhere! 🐬 Watching tons of frolicking dolphins from our catamaran. 🪶 Spotting so many endangered white-crowned pigeons! 🐊 Witnessing what we think was some mating action between 2 gators! 🦀 Kayaking inside a mangrove island and being surrounded by double-crested cormorants! Munich-based Night Train Media, the company launched last year by former Tele Munchen Group MD Herbert Kloiber, is making its first movie investment in thriller Freegard, starring James Norton, Gemma Arterton and Shazad Latif.

Production starts May 31st in London on the feature, which will also star Marisa Abela, Edwina Findley and Julian Barratt.

Based on true events, the movie will chart the story of career conman, Robert Freegard, played by Norton, with Gemma Arterton as the woman who brought him down. Freegard was a master manipulator who convinced countless victims he was undercover MI5 in order to extort and kidnap them. Initially falling for his charms, Arterton’s character became the architect of his downfall and her actions led to his conviction and arrest.

Adam Patterson and Declan Lawn will direct from a script by Michael Bronner, Patterson and Lawn, based on the article Chasing Agent Freegard by Bronner.

Freegard is a Rabbit Track Pictures and The Development Partnership production. Night Train Media is fully financing, controls worldwide rights and has come on board as co-producer. The film is produced in association with Great Point Media with support from Split Prism Media and Anhinga Media. Great Point Media also funded development of the title.

The movie is the first out of the gate for Rabbit Track, the London-based film and TV production company headed up by actor Norton and former LA-based Black Bear head of TV, Kitty Kaletsky.

Night Train CEO Herbert Kloiber said of the company’s first narrative feature: “We are incredibly excited to start our expansion into feature films with this incredible project and group of individuals. Everyone loves a compelling true crime con-artist story and I believe this one can become an instant classic”.

The anhinga is one of the most strange, beautiful and ancient birds of The Gulf Coast region of the Southeastern United States. When North America was split in half roughly 100 to 40 million years ago by a great inland sea called the Western Interior Seaway ( <— interesting maps and stuff – check out the link!) it was home to several species of now extinct anhingas, some of them so enormous that they are presumed to have been flightless! The species we have here in North America (Anhinga anhinga) is generally just called the anhinga, although in some places it is referred to as the American darter, water turkey, snakebird and even the ominous-sounding devil bird.

Anhinga Drying its Wings

Because anhingas don’t have the oil glands found in other aquatic birds like ducks, gulls, swans, etc, when they come out of the water, they will need to dry their wings in order to fly. The advantage of not having this seemingly important oil so essential to buoyancy is that when underwater, the anhinga becomes an extremely fast and agile swimmer and a very efficient fish hunter. Throughout the Gulf Coast, this is a very typical sight: perched above water, wings spread drying in the wind and heat. This adult male was photographed in the Six-mile Cypress Slough in Fort Myers, Florida.

Also known as the snakebird, the anhinga is a common and very effective fish-hunter found along the coasts and interior of Florida and as far south as the Southern Amazon in Brazil. This male was spotted perched in a bald cypress tree in the Big Cypress National Preserve in Southwest Florida.

Rocks, cypress stumps and other watery perches are the perfect place for anhingas to keep an eye out for fish, and to stay relatively safe from hungry alligators, crocodiles, wildcats and larger birds of prey. This adult female was photographed from the shore of a lake in Fort Myers, Florida.

This female was perched at the base of an old bald cypress in the heart of the Sweetwater Strand of the Florida Everglades.

Related to pelicans and cormorants, this male anhinga is in full breeding plumage in a freshwater lake in Fort Myers, Florida. Common along the wetlands of the Gulf Coast on the United States, this fish-specialist is widely scattered across Central America and can be found throughout the whole of the Amazon River Basin in South America.

Because it lacks the oils for buoyancy in its feathers like other birds, and it has a heavier skeleton than other diving birds, the swimming anhinga is completely submerged except for its head and long flexible neck, earning it the common nickname, “snakebird.” This one was spotted in a bream-rich lake in Fort Myers, Florida.
