i've said this before but i think a huge part of the reason undertale's character writing works that doesn't get talked about enough is the fact that it doesn't fall into the trap of having FRIENDSHIP fix everything. i mean in a way it kind of does but like. the characters fix their own mistakes. they are the ones to decide they've done wrong and take action to fix it, not you. they just realize that through frisk. friendship gives them the new perspective necessary to change their ways, but it's only half the solution.
it's alphys who decides, on her own, to take the amalgamates home and admit her mistakes. it's undyne who, when it's her turn to attack you, outside her flaming house, decides there's no point in this path of mindless murder and destruction she's dug for herself, and breaks the cycle herself by dropping her weapon and deciding not to fight you anymore. it's asgore who, after you've done nothing but attack him, realizes what a coward he's been and decides to end the cycle of violence at the cost of his own life. it's mettaton who hears the voices of the hundreds who love him, and who he loves, and realizes that for now, it's more worth it for him to be content where he is. it's asriel who, despite the comfort of pretending chara's still with him, chooses to recognize frisk as who they really are, and face a harsh reality so he can save his family. sans sees your determination and perseverance in the face of hopelessness and decides that maybe there is something to fight for, all by simply watching you. hell, papyrus gives up his fight entirely on his own- all he needs is an opportunity to really think his plan to join the guard through, and a taste of what that guard actually stands for, and he decides it's not worth it without you saying a word. undertale presents you with all these flawed and complex characters and says, "here, look. they're just like you, and they chose to save themselves, despite everything in them telling them they were damned. will you do the same?"

S/O bridal carries skeleton. Main ten plz
Undertale Sans - He's chilling, very satisfied he has found a new way to walk across the house without moving. The hardest part will be to convince him to use his legs again after that now that he knows that you're strong enough to carry him like he weighs nothing. Good luck with that. He's not going to help you.
Undertale Papyrus - He sighs, defeated. You had to do that to impress Undyne, uh? Now you and Undyne are throwing Papyrus at each other to flex. Papyrus is just there, resigned to his fate, and patiently waiting for you two to be done. He keeps giving distress stares towards Alphys who is just recording the whole thing because what the hell can she even do.
Underswap Sans - He starts to squirm and trash around to get free but he didn't expect you to be this strong. After a few minutes of struggle, he gives up, arms crossed, sulking. You celebrate your victory, mostly because you know that's the only time it will work lol.
Underswap Papyrus - Portative cuddles? Count him in. He hugs you to not fall though. Hard. He's almost choking you lol. It's not that he doesn't trust you, but he feels better knowing you won't drop him this way.
Underfell Sans - He's not happy. But he loves you so he doesn't resist, but he's not happy and his face shows it a lot. You better reward him for this because he's making a huge effort to not bite your face off right now.
Tumblr media
Underfell Papyrus - He starts to shriek angrily like he's getting murdered and struggles as you try to hold him above your head so he doesn't reach the floor. Edge bites your arm with each and every pointy tooth he has until you let go. You're going to have a mark for weeks lol. Worth it.
Horrortale Sans - You're struggling to maintain your balance. He's terrified to move honestly, so uncomfortable. He's clearly too big for you but he doesn't want to embarrass you more so he says nothing. But please, if you keep squeezing his ribcage, he swears he won't be able to breathe soon so let go? Please?
Horrortale Papyrus - Hell no, you're not carrying him. He's gentle but firm about it. His back hurts and it's going to make it worse so please let him on the ground, thank you.
Swapfell Sans - He sighs loudly and lets you do whatever you want with his body. However, he doesn't let go of his cup of coffee and keeps drinking it like it's absolutely a normal situation. As long as he can keep going with his day, he doesn't care.
Swapfell Papyrus - He lets you carry him around, but the second you say you're going to put him down now, he plays dead in your arms and refuses to get down. You are stuck with a dead heavy Rus in your arms and you can't do anything about it. The couch is too far to drop him in. After ten minutes though, you decide you have enough and couch or not, you drop him on the floor and leave lol. Rus acts like you murder him the rest of the day.
Fellswap Gold Sans - He hisses at you when you touch him as a warning, to tell you to back off. If you come back to try again, he claws your face. He warned you. He's really fine on the floor, thank you.
Fellswap Gold Papyrus - That's his new favorite way to travel. He wants to do only want and will make you feel guilty with sad puppy eyes every time you say no :D He trained you to carry him on demand and he's very proud of himself.

hi I just wanted to say your tags on the gaster poll posts are so correct yessss (always enjoy your takes just in general). thank you for being one of the seemingly very few people out there who also believes there's no way the timeline works for gaster and alphys to have been colleagues. however, him haunting her benevolently is something I'm 1000% here for <3 (also I hope your finals went well and you get to have a nice relaxing break!)
HII HELLO HI im glad you like them!!! knowing you read these motivates me to keep being Absolutely Very Normal About Him on the internet
personally it's less of a believing thing and more of a come on it's written right there thing, but since we're here.
Tumblr media
behold! dingus timeline. (and the hottest of takes with freshly baked personal headcanons otherwise what am i doing)
Not a skeleton?
Isn't 201X too early?
Indeed, not a skeleton, but rather, some guy. Something about how monster's bodies are manifestations of their SOUL, and him oddly resembling a strange looking man does well to represent his insatiable curiosity and love for creating. (things humans are known for in a better light)
On the other hand, you will be pleased with how fascinated he is by "FLESHLINGS AND THEIR CALCIUM DEPOSITS".
And then they fucking died.
201X is the year the first human fell into the underground, and shortly after, the royal family has moved to New Home. This means some decent exploration of the cavern has already been made. Scientists could very well already have been working on optimizing life underground, with special attention to the large and ever growing new capital.
My idea? As this idiot has been aiding exploration with his antics, Gerson was the one to appoint him to Asgore. Something about his talent with turning garbage into non-garbage. With a little patience and getting familiar with his odd manerisms, it was not too long until he got to be the prince's weird godfather.
Cracking already?
And everyone was devastated, mainly the close family. Not only that, but amidst your mourning, the one couple responsible for your unrealistically high standards for romance just divorced. Is love even real anymore. You eat ants with your cereal and your work consists mainly of convenience improvements and absolutely nothing groundbreaking. What's the point of breaking that pesky barrier again? Child murder? Come on.
That's the Wingdings PATIENCE and BRAVERY encountered in their adventure. Dear god, you're lame. Aren't you some kind of genius? Get yourself together! And together he got his self, now, he has children to look after. Surely there must be some other way. He must stop coming up with new flavours for chips and find some other way.
... Dear god, the King is going to kill them.
BONES and DT
Listen. He's old. You got your wrinkles, he's got his cracking. What? You meant to point out some major event of injury must have been responsible for his current state of deformity? Well, he's old AND heartbroken. That's a direct blow to the SOUL, okay.
Jokes aside (kind of), doing any lasting damage to a monster is quite difficult given their magic forms can easily be healed through, well, magic. They can, however, eventually "fall" (wink wink) and dust away with age - which cannot, however, be fixed with magic.
With a little determination however ...
Something about the anomaly.
He found it, the other way. It was the bones all along, the so needed sustainance for channelling such a high concentration of that power. Well, not necessarily, but a boney structure will endure much more and last much longer than a meaty one. Also, it looks so cool.
You know this guy, he gets first dibs on any and all dubious substances that might or might not deal the last hit to the nail on his coffin dust urn(?). And when it all works out (dubious), he might as well play a little. What kind of things can he make? With the material properties of these calcified remains infused with his own magic, animated with determination.
Some new, powerful magic tricks?
A new kind of monster, maybe?
DARK, DARKER, YET DARKER.
There is a lot of interesting things one can do with isolated DT, aside from making bones rattle with life - for example, peeking onto the complex layers and ramifications of what composes reality. This is when the already kooky scientist grows a little mad; manic, if you will. This is the Wingdings sans was familiar with.
Time travel this, resets that, blah blah blah alpha timeline, the anomaly, the angel, the anomaly again, all things that only make sense to him and his illegible mess on the black board. The lack of detail is killing him, he needs to know what it is - what it does, why it does, how it does. Not to stop it, no, there is no stopping it.
Rather, an overwhelming need to understand it.
He falls somewhere in recent history, details of it left ambiguous. The shattering, combined with the amount of DT running in his magical... mathematical physiology, rendered all of his self but an espectator of his reality; confined to the code and unable to do anything but watch, powerless before the nature of his very being, like a corrupted program.
It is all rather frustrating, besides the burden that is coming to terms with simply not existing anymore, watching was pretty much all this research was and now ever will be. That is, until something interacts with him. It is different from the tragic prince, whom no matter how much DT he's accumulated, he is just as confined to this world's rules as other elements. Not this one, not the force from beyond. Not "YOU".
He makes it a mission to reach out, despite the limits of the code, to give away bits and pieces of him and see if you bite. But not too much, he's seen how you tend to exhaust a world for knowledge, something he can oddly sympathize with. I mean, what will you do once you find everything? One cannot fully know a person.
Maybe in another world, prophetized by a cute, little white dog. A much better world for everyone, without so much as war or disease, his greatest creation yet. And he could invite you to it, to experience bewilderment, to be reminded of wonder. If it could even help you, wherever you are, to deem your own world worth of partaking ... then the experiment was a success.

I have more drawings :)))
Been literally 2 months in the works trying to post collector! Wally & Evil! Brienne
@cutepotatook owns the collector au and the Evil! Wally au belongs @krunnnnnch on tik tok
Warning: contains abuse and toxic relationships you if this bothers you don’t read it.
So basically, Evil! Brienne lives in the pocket dimension with collector and helper, she was saved by collector and in return is in service of him and an Assassin.
In Evil AU, Brienne used to be a gothic princess of the fae kingdom, until she met the wally of her world and his crew.
She naive and was kind to all, she was never evil or mean, wally was her best friends and at first she enjoyed being with him so when they started dating.
She thought nothing of it, she loved him and she thought he loved her….well until he destroyed her kingdom and her people leaving her with nothing.
Force into a marriage, enslaved, tortured mentally and physically and she doesn’t talk about the abuse she was forced to be a housewife and never left home.
And when she tried to leave wally gouge Brienne’s eye out, leaving her with an eyepatch she had stolen from sally from her act.
Eventually she tried to start a rebellion against wally and his crew with the help of y/n but in the end it failed as y/n died.
When collector found her universe, Brienne was chained in the basement in home, he gave her a choice to come with him.
He pity the poor girl and gave her a sense of mercy, she took up the offer and ever since then she’s been with collector.
Evil! Brienne used to be kind, loving and a bubbly person but after the abuse and the enslavement by her wally she turned into a cold, cruel and violent person.
Needless to say, collector and evil! Brienne relationship is like Undyne and Alphys from undertale
Mad scientist and warrior dynamic, I see them as friends to lovers type thing and Brienne and helper as good friends.
The rose eye patch was a birthday gift from collector ;)

Fragments - episodes 31-35 author notes
You can find similar breakdown posts on older episodes in my pinned!
Tumblr media
The chasm in their understanding of what makes Vivi tick.
Tumblr media
The stakes in this scene seem low and the twins are just overdramatizing the danger for the sake of unwinding and being silly, right? Yesn't. One wrong move or word, and they join those leafmen scattered all over the place.
Tumblr media
Finding the line between bad actor and caring sister.
Of course Alisaie wants to hang out with Vivi. She doesn't want to admit that to herself, let alone risk looking desperate in her brother's eyes. Tsundere moment. It's been a while since they've. Had a rest. Between rescuing Minfilia from Laxan Loft and making their way to Il Mheg. Alphinaud, at least in my hc, isn't as physically durable, but definitely as stubborn and proud as Alisaie, so he wouldn't simply agree to chill out for a moment. Alisaie makes him tunnel-vision her bad (?) acting and openly throwing the game for supposedly selfish reasons, while she gets what she wanted, AND forces Alphi to sit his ass down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m sorry but I really need to point out that her ahoge did, in fact, launch into the stratosphere.
More under the cut~
Tumblr media
....Can you blame her tho.
Vivi’s shirt’s a bit more plain than usual, he needed to wear something practical under his crystarium guard disguise in Laxan Loft.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The flashback in episodes 32-33 has no dialogue per se, only monologues, to emphasize how disconnected they are.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Technically both vivis are real, but Exarch’s memories are definitely heavily skewed. He’d only known Vivi during the CT quests, in this story it’s a month or two in summer, during which literally nothing bad happens, sans the finale. Alisaie, however, got lucky to experience Vivi during Stormblood, his absolute low.
Exarch and Alisaie sit on opposing sides of the bias, one wears pink glasses, delusional and bluepilled, the other one’s (heh) redpilled, perhaps a bit too much. Hence Alisaie feels the whiplash when her jerkass woobie friend suddenly acts mellow (back in the present), still she has the expertise to tell that he’s not affected by a fae spell or anything.
Tumblr media
Full page because I’m so proud of the paneling here, simple as this trick is, these speech bubbles blocking Vivi from sight neatly illustrate that Alisaie just babbles away, paying no heed to his state.
With the power of flashbacks and stories told by one character to another, I’m able to revisit any moment in their past whenever I please. I didn’t commit to a linear story because there was no story! Well, just the outlines. Vivi as a character began in ShB because I really needed to fuck that old man, I started writing down the lil scenes loosely connected by the canon plot, and that’s how the whole concept of Fragments came to be.
It may not work for everyone, but my secret sauce’s that you don’t have to begin at the beginning. Make a guy, put him in a situation, then ask a lot of whys and hows to expand his story backward and forward.
Keeping the past events for later allows me to flesh things out at a leisurely pace. This Alisaie flashback is actually an iteration, originally I’d planned to have Vivi stand alone and just think the broody thoughts, and that was supposed to be the transition between ARR and ShB arcs. I grow more writing muscle as I go, and I’m infinitely happy that I avoided that angsty infodump.
Okay this’s becoming a big fat tangent, but I wanted to acknowledge another pitfall: overusing a character as a mere exposition tool. I wouldn’t do this for, say, Tataru or Y’shtola. Being THE flashback haver makes sense for Alisaie because a) they’re close with Vivi, b) her worldview and opinion on Vivi are changing in ShB, she’s a smart lil thing who would slow down and reflect when appropriate, c) she has a distinct arc in my comic, and knowing what’s going on inside that elf brain will give you the most entertainment out of her actions in the present moment.
I’m new to writing and very excited about the story that comes together as we speak, so I like to show around my kitchen. Please lemme know if you enjoy this. I don’t know if I’m parroting the boring 101s, or if this’s actually useful to someone.
Tumblr media
“Meals made for me” YEA HE CAN’T COOK. Well, barely.
New sharp outfit, procured by our most magnanimous branch. The “tail” will help me draw the upcoming Titania fight, it adds fluidity to his movements.
Tumblr media
*presses the upgrade button*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's a lot happening in his head that's not being shown. I hope at least some readers wonder who or what he leaves behind in his mind's eye in this moment. What we know for sure is that he doesn’t take too long to make a decision.
Not sure if subtle, but I did try the breadcrumbing:
Tumblr media
Unfortunately for everyone, including himself :’>
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love this one especially because, instead of telling that about himself, Vivi asks Ardbert, kinda gauging his wol experience against the other wol’s.
Tumblr media
Episode 34 really shook people awake and reminded that we’re off the msq rails with this story. I loved the response it evoked in the tags, lots of thoughtful rambling about being a hero.
Tumblr media
Fae temptation jokes and all, but Feo Ul really says what Vivi needs to say out loud to himself.
Tumblr media
Normalize prioritizing self-care over world-saving.
Tumblr media
Vivi genuinely cares about Feo Ul. That’s unusual. It might be my storytelling mistake that I didn’t show much of his typical indifference before this scene, unless you count the episodes where he does this
Tumblr media
instead of hurrying the fuck up with the msq. Or, perhaps, it’s okay, since this gets plenty of attention later on. You won’t miss the fact that he isn’t eager to set himself on fire to keep others warm. Feo Ul just lucked their way into his heart, and, as a result, he approaches the Titania fight with unusual consideration.
Tumblr media
/srs mode on ^
Remember how I just talked about developing this story in all directions at once? I planned Vivi to have this demeanor during the early days of writing Fragments. Like, most of the time. He’d be a broody bitch, get slowly thawed by Exarch’s kindness, and... That’d be it. In veeeeeery broad strokes, this’s still the case, but the current iteration has much more nuance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vivi and Titania’s likeness has no deep meaning, take it or leave it. Vivi cares about appearances, he was bound to notice this. Feo Ul can see souls, visuals are secondary to them. But Vivi, being himself, must doubt and question everything.
Tumblr media
He moves fast and thinks a lot as the adrenaline speeds him up.
Notice how he lets Titania speak and remains quiet. This’s common in most fights: he doesn’t indulge with chats or banter those who he sees as mere targets to destroy. There’s like a point of no return, if an enemy poses no threat and can be talked out of dying, Vivi will speak, sadly he enters this fight knowing that Titania has to die no matter what.
Once he’s familiarized himself with the situation, and realized that Titania’s more than just a mindless husk, things change up a bit. But for now, he just runs in circles, analyzes the situation, and overthinks about their visual resemblance :’>
Tumblr media
Sorry not sorry but unintentional reference x’DD
Tumblr media
To be fair Vivi IS being a magical boy in this miniarc so this works lmao.
Wrapping up on this note, thanks for sticking with me and reading till the end~

Why the Mysteryman Sprite is (Likely) Gaster
Although the mysteryman sprite being Gaster has long been the most popular in the fandom, there has been much debate over whether it actually is him or not. There has been many interpretations based on sprites ingame, however, I find mysteryman the most likely to be true. Here, I will give examples that point to this;
Firstly, here is a background for the most popular candidates:
Mysteryman. The mysteryman sprite is hidden in a gray room (Room 269) behind a gray door, which can only be accessed when the players FUN value is set to 66. The sprite itself is of a distorted face atop a black body. Attempting to engage in dialogue with the NPC results in it disappearing.
Tumblr media
2. Redacted. Within a secret room in waterfall is a white, stringy NPC; lacking any body features. Upon interacting with it, the NPC says "* [redacted]" in wingdings. The connection is the fact that Gaster speaks in wingdings; although unlike redacted, always in uppercase, like Papyrus.
Tumblr media
3. Gaster Blaster. The connection between it and Gaster is the use of his namesake, which could, like the DT Extractor, indicate that the attack and machine are created in his image (his head), although there is nothing else to back this up.
Tumblr media
Now that we have the candidates, I can move onto the evidence: all of which points to mysteryman.
Removal from merchandise. While, yes, Toby has stated that merch is not canon, that fact that Gaster is removed at all indicates the fact that because he has not yet been shown in context, and because of the nature of his existence (or lack of) as a character, Toby does not want to release merch including him to keep the mystery. In the case of the tarot cards, the main reason, alongside what I stated before, he is removed is likely because by keeping the card depicting him that would, at least in the eyes of the fandom, confirm that mysteryman is his canonical form. However to me, the most intriguing is the vinyl. On the cover, there are many sprites of both characters and objects: one of which being mysteryman, which was deliberately removed and replaced by the SAVE star. Even more interesting is the fact that the redacted sprite was included, but not removed by Toby. This would seem to indicate that mysteryman is of more importance than redacted (and therefore is more likely to be Gaster).
Tumblr media
Also, on the inside of the vinyl, mysteryman, one of Gaster's followers, and an amalgamate were removed and replaced by the same SAVE star. (Off topic, I find the fact that they were replaced by SAVE stars in particular to be interesting. Is this a nod to the fact that Gaster likely experimented with Determination before Alphys? For the second one, it could also be referencing Lemonbread, who appears from a SAVE star.)
Tumblr media
Connection to the number 6, and the Mysteryman room. Gaster has an intrinsic relationship to the number 6, for a few different reasons: One; via datamining, it can be found that Gaster has hidden battle stats: all of which are repeating 6's. Two; Room 264, which contains text in all uppercase wingdings, is titled as "room_gaster." Three; in Undertale and Deltarune, every character has a "typer value" attached to their text. In both games, Gaster's typer value is 666. Four; all of the Gaster Followers can only be found when the games FUN value is set to 61, 62, or 63.
Tumblr media
You know what else is related to the number 6? Mysteryman. The number of its room is 269, and it can only be found when the FUN value is set to 66 (with a 10% chance). Redacted is also related to the number 6, although not as specifically: when in its room, if you walk south, you will enter the "Soundtest room" that can play "Gaster's Theme:" which can also be accessed when the FUN value is set to 65.
Tumblr media
Deltarune failsafe text. In Deltarune, there are sets of "failsafe texts" that will display if a certain text fails to load properly. In it, a three part poem can be found: "* Is that a cut on your face, or part of your eye?" "* The gash weaves down as if you cry." "* The pain itself is reason why." This poem seems to be referring to the mysteryman sprite, specifically, which has two "cuts" on its eyes; one weaving up, and the other down. While this may be referring to a different character, the only one that fits this description is Jevil. However, I find this unlikely for one main reason: grammar.
Tumblr media
The poem specifically mentions only one gash that weaves down. If it were talking about a character with two, wouldn't it be grammatically correct to say "the gashes weave down" and "are those cuts"? While, yes, mysteryman has two gashes, only one weaves down, so I find it much more likely that this poem is referring to him rather than Jevil, who has two that weave down. Also, there are other failsafe texts. One, of which states "* You can't read these symbols…" "*Or maybe it's the handwriting." This is a reference to a piece of text in Sans' lab in Undertale, when interacting with the blueprints on his table. The use of the words "read" and "symbols" indicates that the text the blueprints are written in is in wingdings: a font exclusively made for symbol characters. While this is not a certain piece of evidence like the others, both the poem and blueprints text, which are referencing things in Undertale, being included at all in Deltarune seems to emphasize their importance and, subsequently, Gaster's importance to the story.
Conclusion:
Considering all of these pieces of evidence, and the fact that the other candidates have nowhere near as much, it is increasingly likely that the mysteryman sprite is, indeed, Gaster or is, at least, a part of him. Because an important part of his story is the fact that when he was erased from existence, he was "shattered across time and space." Due to being shattered, there may be many pieces of him out there: mysteryman being just one of which. But to me, that sprite is, based on everything I've covered, the most likely one to be him. As we're currently only 2/7 chapters into Deltarune, we're likely going to get more facts that will either disprove or help prove this theory. For now, only time will tell :)
~Kat
Also, I must add something: this doesn't mean you can't portray Gaster differently!! This post is simply my addition, based on facts from UT and DR, and my personal subjective reasoning. Also also! I've used Tumblr for a while, but this is my first real post. So sorry if the format or etc isn't great, I apologize-- I'm still learning, haha

Been meaning to say this (if I have already said some of this in some form, I am sorry, hahaha), but I absolutely love ur portrayal of so many characters! Esp. Sans and Paps (Sans who is my favorite in the game, and Paps who is another one from the game I love very, very much. Though UT characters are generally just so good), Gaster, Frisk, Chara, and Alphys (been liking the stuff between her and Sans too)! U do them all so well!!
I also love Sans and Paps GB's and how they have personalities and stuff! Even though Sans seems to just think they are his magic and nothing else, while Paps, doesn't. Which is an interesting contrast between them.
The skelebros dynamic is also just so funny and on point. Frisk and Chara's dynamic is quite interesting (and the dynamic between Chara and Gaster puts me on edge. And the one between Chara and Asriel is just tragic like always). And Sans (both younger and present) and Gaster's dynamic is probably one of my favorite Sans and Gaster relationships portrayals I have seen so far. Like, they are such coworkers, and trust each other (to some extent), but there is also seems to be some tension going on w/ them. And Gaster is just terrorizing present Sans basically, lol.
And one of the most interesting dynamics to me, is the one between younger and present Sans. Idk, it is just so interesting and weird to see them interact. And it will always stand out to me younger Sans saying to older Sans that just because he stopped being him, doesn't mean he isn't Sans, in reply to older Sans wanting to give him another name. Idk, I just found that line interesting. And makes me wonder if older Sans will ever be more like younger Sans again.
On the topic of younger Sans. It is kind of heartbreaking to see how happy? (I say with a question mark, because like I said, Sans seems to kind of helping keep Gaster sane in some form, and I don't know how good that is for either of them, even though I love their relationship in this), and outgoing and just actually more enjoying life, to his present self, that is just so more worn down and tired, and depressed. It just makes me sad. Though it is also so interesting.
Saying that, I don't know if it is because younger Sans seems so happy and stuff; even more so in contrast to older Sans, but like, I don't trust him for some reason. I do actually trust older Sans; guarded and secretive as he is, but younger Sans, something about him. I just don't trust (I don't really trust Gaster either though). I love younger Sans, like I do older Sans, but he is suspicious to me for some reason.
Also, in reply to to another ask you did, I am very curious about Sans' yellow eye, and why that gets weird/messed up/whatever.
Last of all, ur animation looks great! Paps looks so awesome and expressive and badass so far in it. Though, it looks like in one of the frames, there is some geno stuff going on; which, oh no.
It is cool to see this comic; which already looks great, get an awesome animation like this. It is always cool to see gifs, animations, animatics, etc., sometimes like this with comics and/or etc.! Though, I also know they can take a lot of time, so take ur time and rest and stuff okay! Really excited for more of this series, but I can also wait!!
Oh man this gave me all sorts of warm feelings. It really hits me in the feelings when people enjoy my work especially the relationship exploration because its one of my favorite things to explore. Trying to find some key things about a character and see how they react and interact with scenarios and people that you haven't before.
For example the younger intern version of sans is, at his core, pretty much the same person. Just a version that hasn't "gone through" the same things yet.
And it sort of is an exploration of the relationship a person has with themselves and the people around them especially after they have gone through things and change.
But anyways thank you so much!

I’m wording this ask so terribly sorry.
So you know sans like the back of your hand and can pinpoint inaccurate portrayals of him but is it like that for the other members of the main cast too? Are there any characters you don’t really get in that way?
the funny thing is, as much as people think of me as a sans understander, the other members of the cast being more self-contained and confined to the narrative makes them a lot easier to puzzle out and put into context. undyne, alphys, asgore, toriel and flowey specifically. their roles are so crucial and defined by undertale's story that they almost work like the gears of a well oiled machine. not only are they characters in and of themselves, but with their backgrounds being available to the player and not left to speculation, every aspect of their personality become integral to What Happens In The Story as well.
when you take sans, on the other hand, his character is still so shrouded in lore and mystery that i do NOT doubt i'm also getting a fair bit of him wrong. he's an unknowable motherfucker. i can study his voice, what we know of him, and draw patterns in his behavior all i want, but at the end of the day there's still a good chunk of context to his character that is necessarily left to speculation. of course, we do have a LOT of lore for his character, and what that lore says seems... pretty direct, at least in terms of character goals and personality (he lost some people/somewhere important to him, he tried so hard to go home, he failed. he knows about the anomaly and it basically caused an existential crisis, however his first instinct was still to empathize with it. he takes everything life throws at him in stride because he doesn't believe in a happy ending anymore. he'll hold onto anything that proves him wrong)
you know who doesn't give you anything at all though?
FUCKING. PAPYRUS.
i do NOT get that guy. honest to god. sure, i can analyze his voice all the same, his personality and actions within the story, but papyrus is just as much of a lore mystery as his brother. with papyrus though? we get NOTHING. nada! he has the most lines out of any character and they tell you nothing about him. worse than that, what little info we get about sans' life "before" has almost no repercussions on papyrus whatsoever. homesickness who? scientific background who? knowledge of the anomaly who? sure, he's surprisingly strong and really passionate about puzzle construction. you can read into those aspects, but it's not anything that ties into any of sans' deal. which makes no sense because they're brothers, they got here together! why isn't sans' obvious baggage over his past something that connects them? at this point the only thing that makes sense to me is him being an amnesiac. which ig could tie into the whole "don't forget" motif. idfk man.
but like. that being said i can still more or less track the way he behaves around the other characters, the way he relates to them, his conflicts within undertale's main story etc. that's normal story analysis and pattern recognition. he's just... a bit trickier to puzzle out than the rest of the cast. goddamn him.

Some details from the Undertale Legends of Localization book
271 pages! If the localization of Undertale into Japanese interests you, I suggest getting the book off of Fangamer yourself. Anyhow, here's some details I noted from my reading:
-"mt.ebott is "toby" backwards, inspired by mt. itoi from MOTHER" (translation note from Toby to 8-4). This detail is also mentioned at another point in the book.
-An image of the debug tool that 8-4 developed to quickly jump to points in the game has "No Mercy" as a tab...(?) selector...(?). I don't quite recall what other names have been used for the route 'officially', so found it interesting enough to note. It is also referred to as such a few other times in the book.
-The name they used for the fallen human (shown in their debug tool menu image) is "Rose".
-Toby instructed the translators to keep ICE-E somewhere, even if to keep it funny the wordsearch got changed to something else.
-It has been known by people already, but the book notes how each item has three names! One standard name, one abbreviated for battle menus, and one abbreviated for battle menus during serious scenes. I think I recall some post calling it "Serious Mode"...? For example, the Butterscotch Pie goes in the battle menu from "ButtsPie", to "Pie" in the Toriel fight from "Serious Mode" . (Though, it says they cut the abbreviating for the Japanese translation as there were less space needed for the item names. I guess that means the japanese version didn't get any 'silly' item name variations...?)
Now, this gets pretty long, so I'll just put a readmore here...
-The translation of the Wrong Number Song comes up in the book, and it actually references that the main fan theory for who the "G" is is Gaster! BUT it reveals nothing about it basically. Toby remained mysterious about the "G..." person referenced in the call, with his note on it being "Character's name beginning with "G"... Actually, it might be suitably bizarre if you leave this line completely intact in English." Disappointing, but admittedly expected that this book wouldn't give any more details about it.
Apparently initially the localization team also thought it was meant to be "Gaster" and put a "Ga--" in an early draft, but it got overruled by Toby's decision to keep the call in English.
-A section emphasizes how while Monster Kid's dialogue uses ore, a more masculine pronoun, ". . .Toby designed the character to have no clear gender," and "Monster Kid's gender is never specified in the original script." I personally found it nice how the section asserted Monster Kid's gender neutrality and emphasized the pronoun choices being more purely used to reflect character, and chosen after consultation with Toby. -Onionsan's unclear gender led to the translators choosing for them to use watashi (which the section describes as a "polite, somewhat gender-neutral" pronoun), or simply "Onionsan" (which works to emphasize their childish vibes). -There is nothing about Frisk/their name is never mentioned. A section on Parsnik only notes that Hard Mode is accessed when you "give yourself a certain human's name." -Apparently Toby says Alphys is pronounced "al-feez"
-It is noted that Toby did not mean to reference the "it's over 9000!" meme with the dialogue "OH YES! MTT-BRAND OVENS CAN REACH TEMPERATURES UP TO NINE-THOUSAND DEGREES!" -For the (slightly inaccurate) Kitchen quote CHECK text (two lovers standing over the cauldron of hell...), Toby asked the translators to just translate it directly instead of grabbing the exact lines from the Japanese version of Kitchen. The section emphasizes how Toby was so unattached to it being a reference that he specifically requested the translators to not bother with it.
-There is a section on Entry Number 17 (the wingdings one, not the unused alphys one)! However, it is not referred to as such, merely vaguely talking about it- how most people never see some of the lines in Undertale, and the process of translating the wingdings. (They wrote out the Japanese translation with English spelling, keeping the same wingdings font.)
The image examples they use are images of the wingdings "THE DARKNESS KEEPS GROWING" and it translating to wingdings "YAMIHA NOUDO WA MASHITE YUKU". Funnily enough, the section notes ". . .it almost feels like these messages contain dark secrets. . ." and ". . .the localization team wanted to preserve the 'dark, mysterious, and unreadable' vibe in Japanese too." "Dark" twice... ha ha, these writers, I swear...
Sadly, no mention of Gaster or any other insight on the entry. An example sentence they use for Wingdings is "I EAT BUGS EVERY DAY," so uhhh maybe that's a clue that he's a bug eater? (I'm joking...) -"Asriel Dreemurr" being an anagram of "Serial Murderer" is confirmed to be intentional by Toby. -Toby notes how the "But it refused" line has two meanings: One, that it can mean "refused to die," secondly, that it can mean "'re-fused', referring to how the heart fragments fuse back together again." It's another thing that's been noted by some people, but a neat detail regardless!
Alright, that's what I've got...! There's a lot of other stuff, like how dialogue that was referencing other games was handled, (which is a LOT), but these notes are what I found the most personally interesting and relevant to Undertale.

THEORY: Deeeltaaruuuneeee
You know, despite all the intense speculation about Deltarune - its dialogue, its music, its merchandise... - there's one obvious piece of foreshadowing that no one seems to think about. A critical piece. One that's been under our nose the whole time.
youtube
The title.
Today we're going to deep dive into the title drop of Deltarune, its connections to Undertale and Deltarune, and speculate about what it could be foreshadowing in the future.
VISUALS
Deltarune's title appears with a notable wavering, almost interlacing effect. We've seen this effect before.
Tumblr media
Asriel causes this when using HYPER GONER.
youtube
And though the Memoryheads have more scan lines and desync than the Deltarune title, it's still an incredibly similar visual that stands out in the game.
youtube
A similar wavering sort of effect also appears during Undyne the Undying's deformation and reformation.
I wonder if this effect might represent holding on through determination.
At her true death, Undyne the Undying begins to visibly melt, which we're told by Alphys is what's supposed to happen to monsters who contain high amounts of determination. So, it would follow that when she's wavering as she's clinging to life through determination, that's also an intended visual.
And if that's true of Undyne, it could be true of the Memoryheads, who have the same kind of effect. It would make sense, as they are amalgamates, whose very premise is based on the presence of determination.
So, the logo fading in with a wavering interlacing effect might mean that it represents something - or someone - returning to life through determination.
Of course, that's just my best guess. Maybe it represents something completely different - or nothing at all. But both the Memoryheads and Undyne the Undying hold a lot of apparent Deltarune references, and I wouldn't be surprised if their wavering effects were one of them, tying them into the same phenomenon that's happening to the logo.
There's something interesting happening during the logo's disappearance. Keep your eye on the SOUL at the center to observe it more easily.
youtube
The logo is not just fading out - its parts seem to be undergoing some kind of mathematical transformation, causing them to multiply, and fade out as they do so.
If any math fans know what specific formula or transformation is being used here, that would be great to know, but as far as I can figure, whatever is happening to the parts are being reflected across multiple axes.
This concept of reflection as division appears several times in Deltarune. I've delved into it here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Basically, we have this recurring idea that in order to multiply something, you have to divide it in half. Once divided, both halves are no longer the same as the original, resembling it though they may. You could say they're both "reflections" of the original.
That seems reminiscent of what's happening here.
The SOUL, and all the other parts of the logo, appear to be divided again and again, gradually fading with each division until there's nothing left of them.
This may have concerning implications for the plot.
I'm not sure what, exactly, this whole reflection-division concept is building up to, but it's definitely setting up something. And watching this soul and the rest of the title being reflected and divided so many times that it fades out of existence... well, you can't help but worry. There's a lot of wild conjecture we could launch from here, but I'll leave that to you.
There's one more thing here worth noticing. Deltarune is a parallel story to Undertale. If we compare their logos, they look fairly similar. Both are white text on a black background with a red heart in the center letter. But there are a couple of interesting differences.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First, Undertale's logo is comprised of detailed pixels, while Deltarune's is made of blocky letters.
This gives Deltarune's logo the impression of a game with old-school, scan-line-looking graphics (if someone knows what this is called please lmk lol), while Undertale's logo looks like that of a more modern game by comparison.
Interestingly, this is kind of inverse to the presentations of the games themselves. The pixel count in Deltarune is notably higher than that of Undertale. But here, it's the opposite.
(Side note: It also might be worth noting that as of the Sweepstakes, the Ice Palace also appears to be in this old-school style.)
Tumblr media
Second, and most importantly, UNDERTALE is depicted in all caps. The visual logo for DELTARUNE is actually presented in all lowercase: "deltarune."
This is important in a series that has consistently used uppercase and lowercase as some kind of recurring element.
One quick example is when Sans explains the Level of Violence acronym: "you never gained LOVE, but you gained love. does that make sense?"
But it's not all acronyms. There's many other interesting usages throughout the series, such as Asgore's name being alternately presented normally or in all-caps, or the presence of certain titles in the soundtracks being in all-caps for no discernible reason.
We still don't really know what this element is meant to represent. But we do know that whatever it means, it is present between the "deltarune" and "UNDERTALE" logos.
Like with so many things here, we do have to wait on more information to truly understand the meaning. But once we know more about the reflection-division and uppercase-lowercase elements, then the multiplying, differently cased logos should also fall into place.
SOUND
The Deltarune title audio seems comprised of three parts: a sound reminiscent of a collective inhale or gasp, followed by a robotic voice saying "DELTARUNE," followed by a mixture of two types of sounds - one reminiscent of a collective exhale, the other a series of discordant chimes - that gradually fade out.
As many have pointed out, the opening sound in the Deltarune title is just an echoey version of the sound that plays when transitioning up from the Dark World to the Light World in Castle Town: snd_dtrans_lw.
youtube
Awesome! We have a confirmed connection for the beginning part of the audio. Surely this will provide some insight?
Well... not really...?
While we know a little bit more about the Light vs Dark World concept than we do about, say, the reflection-division concept, I feel we're still not much closer to understanding the meaning behind this sound effect.
I mean, the information we have here is pretty limited. The sound is used when Kris and Susie rise back up to the Light World, which could tell us that the title audio relates to something (whatever the title is representing here) rising up a level, too. If you want to stretch, taking the allegorical into account, maybe it represents some "fictional" or "escapist" elements becoming more "real." This has kind of been alluded to already, with Susie wanting to bring the Darkners into the Light World because it's just "better" than real life, and Berdly and Noelle agreeing and wanting to create Dark Fountains.
Beyond that...there's not much here, that I can think of. If anything, the usage of this audio in the title drop is more important for telling us the in-game usage is important than the other way around. We kind of have to know what the title represents to be able to know the significance of it "rising up"/transitioning between worlds would be.
There's also the sound effect that plays when Noelle or the others "get stronger," which kind of resembles an altered version of dtrans_lw, and would provide some more context if true... but I can't be certain.
youtube
Anyway, let's continue onward.
Next up is the robotic-sounding voice saying "DELTARUNE."
This appears to be a text-to-speech voice. Moreover, the TTS voice appears to be one of the same ones from abc_123_a.ogg.
youtube
This is notable because that TTS is also used for Gaster's text noise in "room_gaster" (Entry 17).
youtube
In other words, it's very possible that the voice saying "Deltarune" is supposed to be Gaster's.
This isn't really as shocking as it seems. Gaster very much appears to be the framing device around Deltarune as an entire game - he gives it to us as SURVEY_PROGRAM, and communicates to us during Game Overs and save file screens. The title being another part of the game's framing, it wouldn't really be a surprise that he'd be here too.
If we do assume the voice belongs to Gaster, the more interesting questions become why he's able to speak a fully voiced word, and why the voice sounds so...strained. One can almost imagine someone desperately leaving a final message, or barely managing to contact someone, before subsequently fading out. All subjective, but interesting to think about.
The final part might be the most mysterious.
There are two main overlapping kinds of sounds playing here: a collective sigh or moan that gradually fades out, and a variety of discordant notes.
Regarding the sigh, I don't know for sure. The most simple guess would be that, if the inhale-sounding sound represents transitioning upwards from Dark to Light World, then perhaps the exhale-sounding sound represents the inverse - transitioning downwards from Light to Dark World.
The only problem with this assumption is that Kris and Susie do transition downwards from the Light World to the Dark World, and the different sound effects that have played so far don't really sound exhale-y at all. So that part's a mystery.
The other overlapping sound jumps out instantly, though.
An immediate association, to me, is Snowgrave.
youtube
Although these notes in the Snowgrave sound effect are much clearer than the distorted ones in the Deltarune title, they both are seemingly random- and discordant-sounding, and the sound itself is reminiscent of chimes.
But there is another instance of this kind of sound.
During the Chapter 1 livestream, many tiny differences were added to the game's build for the purposes of the stream. One such difference was the forest room containing the ballerina-type enemies.
In this room, visuals were added resembling the gray star-like sparkles that also seem present during Snowgrave's animation.
And a feature was added where interacting with the ballerinas would cause them to play a bunch of discordant, glass-like sounds.
youtube
Toby Fox was unusually cryptic about this change. He describes the sounds only as "a horrible noise," and when asked what they're saying, replies, "Secret. Never ask a dog that question."
So, it seems likely there's some intended mystery surrounding this difference, and it is unusual to me that the ballerinas' chimes are so similarly chaotic as Snowgrave and the title audio.
Personally, my best guess is that it has something to do with the silvery sparkles. "snd_snowgrave" notably does NOT include the preceding chimes - which play while the sparkles are floating out of Noelle's hands. The livestream ballerina enemy area seems to once again associate these chimes with the presence of sparkles.
If that's the case, then maybe the chimes at the end of the title audio have something to do with the sparkles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, to those without a music theory background like most of us, sound perception seems pretty subjective. Three sounds that all sound like a bunch of glassy, discordant notes to my ears could actually be completely unrelated.
So take this with a grain of salt. The only truly solid information we have is that the Deltarune logo voice seems to use the same TTS as abc_123 and Gaster. The rest is speculation.
But if these similarities are intentional, and those chiming sounds in the title audio are supposed to represent something to do with Snowgrave, that's obviously not a good sign.
CONCLUSION
While I don't think we have all the puzzle pieces just yet, we do have a variety of clues that give off a strong tone about what's going on. This is my suspicion:
The Deltarune title is depicting a tragedy.
Something bad is happening here.
The strained and desperate voice, the inhaled gasp, the collective sigh as a discordant collection of sounds and reflections fade out into nothingness... it's not looking good.
We know Gaster met with an unfortunate fate, and it's his voice that's speaking to us. We know dividing something causes the original to be forever altered and lost, and the SOUL and everything else that makes up the title seems to be undergoing that until it's reduced to nothingness. We know Undyne reformed herself through determination with a similar visual to the logo's appearance, but like Undyne, the logo ends up fading out anyway.
And let's be honest. We know something bad has happened to Deltarune before.
Gaster wants us to make "a new future" with him. One that shines with hope. ("Unlike the old future" perhaps implied.) He specifically made his appearance known in Undertale to players with low levels of violence.
By contrast, this implies something dark and terrible happened to Deltarune's universe in the past. It's in all the little things. Alphys sets the stage with Mew Mew 2's darker storyline. Kris' birdcage has "seen a lot of crashes," and they certainly act like this isn't their first time being possessed. Sans has seen his share of bad timelines, and in the casino dialogue, talks about back when he was less experienced, when one time he witnessed an especially bad snow. Spamton knows exactly what will happen to Kris on a Weird Route, as if he's already seen it - almost as if he's been frozen for years inside rings and behind mysterious locked doors. Noelle claims she doesn't know what Snowgrave is, but also stares off into the freezer, and can't remember what she's done. There's characters preparing for a particularly bad winter. And then there's the perpetual threat of the Roaring, and Ralsei's haunted expression when he describes it, like he's seen it before. There's the fact that we fall down into an evacuated town within a barren landscape of darkness and eyes. The title screen, after all this, plays a mournful piano song over an image of the three heroes at Worlds' Edge. Before the Story.
Tumblr media
So, is it really any surprise?
There's so much writing on the walls about Deltarune having repeating, tragic elements, and the title drop seems no exception.
Will we be the ones to break the cycle, and change Deltarune's future? Or is the fate depicted in the title the only possible outcome?

14/JAN/20XX
"MK, dude. You're gonna kill him."
frisk picked up their kickball that's narrowly missed me enough times to make me reconsider my seating.
"Sorry, Sans."
"Should we move this somewhere else?"
"Your back yard has more space, right?"
"Yeah. Race you there!"
"On the count of three."
"You can count!"
frisk inhaled...
"Okaythreetwoonego-"
darting instantly around the back of the house.
"Wai- Frisk, that's not fair!!"
clearly caught of guard, monster kid gave chase.
"......."
"You're just gonna watch them leave?"
"i'll get up in a sec."
"Gee, some kind of babysitter you are."
"like i said, i'll get up in a sec."
"besides, this isn't technically babysitting."
"How is it not?"
"not my job."
"Didn't Toriel put you up to this or something?"
"nope."
"Why are you even here?!"
"bored."
"Don't you have anyone else to bug?"
"nope."
"Papyrus?"
"working with asgore. doin' ambassador stuff."
"Alphys?"
"on a date with undyne."
"Grillby?"
"bothered him enough yesterday."
"You could go work for once. Pay him back."
an unusual amount of exhaustion slows my every movement today. not the lazy slow i've typically got; slow like sludge.
i blame it on the dog that wouldn't stop rifling through everything in my room. normally i'd kick it out, but then it'd go bug papyrus. knowing ahead of time he'd be busy today, i'd let it annoy me for the night.
"i'm bored, but i'm not 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 bored."
"Lazy ass."
"the rest of me's lazy too, y'know."
grabbed his pot and carried it with me to the back porch with me. i was met with a frankly surprising lack of complaints, his scowl being the extent of it.
he ignored my reply.
"Fine. Not Grillby, not Papyrus, not Alphys..."
"Don't you hang out with Napstablook sometimes?"
"yeah."
"Why not them?"
"they're with mtt. calling mew, i think."
"...How's she doing?"
"𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 wondering how someone's doing?"
"feelin' alright, bud?"
"Shut up. I'm only asking because she's tolerable compared to a lot of you."
"I relate to her constant rage, on some level."
"last i heard, the idol stuff was going well."
"Getting paid to do nothing but look good..."
"I'd say it sounds like easy cash, but I know 𝘆𝗼𝘂 couldn't do it."
"i do plenty of nothing."
"The looking good part."
"you'd be surprised at how low standards are these days."
"Yours specifically?"
"That's no shock. Your jacket's got a stain on it RIGHT there."
"eh."
"When's the last time you washed that thing?"
"at least sometime last month."
"Eugh!"
"I'm surprised you don't smell like anything worse than ketchup."
"my lack of body with which to produce odor contributes to that."
"......."
"you totally stink though."
"I don't have a body either, idiot!"
"got the odor though."
"I don't sm- HEY!!!"
the kickball slammed against the railing flowey was on, giving him a good shake.
"WATCH IT!"
"Frisk, dude. You're gonna kill him."
mocking tonality, soon broken with giggling.
frisk punched them in the shoulder before running back in the yard to receive the kick from monster kid.
"Both of them need to get better."
"at playing?"
"Whatever game that is."
"why don't you go play with 'em?"
the incredulous look he gave me was expected.
"Because I don't have limbs??"
"so you'd play if you could."
"No! It looks boring."
"yet you watch them play."
"Watching is different!"
"watching is looks."
"and you said it looks boring."
"Shut it, herd."
"nope."
knowing full well that i was letting myself be lulled by the sun and gentle breeze into a nap, right there in tori's porch chair.

can’t resist teasing the blue one he makes it so easy
Ch’ari is having flashbacks. Not the bad kind — well, relatively — but the kind that make him remember three years ago in the Waking Sands, wondering if the kid in front of him had ever been told to shut up in his life.
Apparently not! Not if the students stopping him every few fulms are any indication. Alphinaud had promised to give Ch’ari a bit of a guided tour, seeing as he knew the entire place inside and out, not as put off by the girls’ teasing as he had assumed he’d be. Probably just too excited to be back. But now, his tail twitching with impatience against his deeply ingrained instinct to say hello and be nice and have a small discussion with everyone who stops him, he glances at Ch’ari with almost-apology every few minutes. The tips of his ears are pink.
Currently he is making small talk with a girl, taller than him by a few ilms and pushing her glasses up every other phrase. He seems paradoxically happy to be back and at the same time embarrassed to be here at all. Ch’ari is getting flashbacks, getting a bit annoyed that Alphy won’t just put his foot down and stop stopping, and also getting the overwhelming, unavoidable instinct to, as a newly-minted older brother, be annoying.
He would have been annoying before the familial ties, but he feels a responsibility now. The girl is leaning into him slightly. His younger brother is in dangerous proximity to being flirted with. Unconscionable.
“…wouldn’t have thought to see you again! I had heard that you weren’t…” the girl says. Ch’ari very slowly starts to loom over Alphinaud’s shoulder.
“Think nothing of it, to pass up the… um,” Alphinaud starts, and then notices the looming.
“You have a bodyguard now?” The girl whispers, tight and awed.
“No!” Alphinaud says.
“Yes,” Ch’ari says.
“No. He is my— ah,”
Ch’ari gestures callously, baring a fang. “This girl bothering you?”
The girl’s eyes go wide. “No,” Alphinaud says, again, seeming stuck on just denying him. Ch’ari doesn’t think his ears can go any pinker.
Honestly, he doesn’t even look that intimidating right now. He has on his warmest, fanciest coat, which happens to be a Hingashi military weave in black and gold. He doesn’t have his staff. He doesn’t even look all that rowdy, what with Krile making him smooth down his fur and get a stick or two out of it. He looks not a bit like the Warrior of Light, and more like a mildly suspicious foreign miqo’te. Who is staring at her.
Realizing that Ch’ari looks nothing like himself, and then realizing a second later that he is not allowed to use Ch’ari’s title to smooth this over because they are still under the guise of the Students of Baldesion, not Eorzean mischief-makers, Alphinaud does not come up with anything more solid than “He’s an invitee from abroad and has… not seen the Studium in person. I was intending to… introduce him to the Scholarch, if you know where he would be?”
Smooth! Now the girl looks at Ch’ari in trepidation, if not wonder such that you get with meeting foreign exchange students. And, thankfully, she seems to back off just a touch.
“O-oh! Well, it is a pleasure to meet you, I do hope your expectations are met and exceeded. I hope I wasn’t detaining you overlong. I just saw Scholarch Montechaigne down the hallway talking to a senior student.”
“Great! Perfect. Lovely to see you, miss…?” Ch’ari asks, imitating Alphinaud’s manners. The girl looks like she suddenly remembers a whole thing from myth about not giving your name to the fae.
“Roishhanne,” she says.
“Miss Roishhanne.” A glance at Alphinaud — you coming or staying? He gets an unsure ??? look back, so he decides to just start leaving. Alphinaud, a few seconds behind, follows him.
“Mine apologies, we really have to catch him — I shall see you later, I hope!”
The girl stutters. “Yes, uh, goodbye, Alphinaud!”
Once they are out of earshot, further down the hallway, Alphinaud brushes himself off. “That was hardly necessary,” he grumbles.
“Do you know her?”
“…No, but she was so pleased to say hello…”
Ch’ari raises an eyebrow. “Do go on?”
“This,” Alphinaud says loudly, “is the Learner’s Meet, and it seems as if he is not here! Let’s move on.”
