Not every positive platonic relationship is siblings. Sometimes people are just friends. Best friends, even! But just friends.

#i used to be so happy that fandom could acknowledge Sonic & Tails as brothers #but now i'm thinking that no one understands WHY they are brothers #given the way they are so quick to call *every other friendship* in the franchise siblings #Sonic & Tails are siblings bc *Sonic raised Tails*#he is Tails' big bro & his mom & his dad & his picket fence #in NUMEROUS different canons they have this relationship #including IDW (Amy: ''Well [Tails] was practically raised by Sonic'')#& Frontiers (Sage: ''A family born of love'')#they are not brothers just bc they are besties. they're brothers bc of this specific set of circumstances #that formed their relationship. and other characters just don't have that!#Knuckles and Tails don't have that. Round 4 of Sugarhog AU redesigns! Currently out of completed family designs (due to laziness coff) so, I'm just posting random batches.

Knuckles (Last name pending):

An experiences archeologist and part-time boxer on the side, Knuckles loves learning about the past of his people as well as other ancient civilizations. He's multilingual, resourceful, and has very street smart attitude which helps him with his day-to-day activities working dig sites. While he does value artifacts, he also has a refined taste for oddly shaped rocks, of which he often brings back as souvenirs for Sonic and Tails.

Tikal (Last name pending):

The town's beloved nurse, Tikal is named after a historical figure in her native culture. She's a kind caretaker of all, loves growing herbs and medicines in her garden and takes care of the town's hidden Chao garden. Rumor has it she also inherited the role of Chaos guardian, but due to the "absence" of the water deity, most have found this claim to be questionable.

Amy Rose:

A teenaged entrepreneur, she runs her family's general store selling just about anything you would generally need for daily life. She does card readings on the side as her true dream is to further her psychic abilities but obligations to her family unfortunately hold her back from pursuing this. She has zero tolerance for rude customers and will swiftly ride of them from her property when deemed necessary (which is usually all the time). She's good friends with Silver and regularly accepts his help manning the store when days get busy. She also has a crush on Sonic but chooses to keep it to herself as she doesn't want to possibly damage their friendship.

Blaze (Last name pending):

An aloof daughter of the mayor, Burnard, Blazes family runs one of the largest inns in town. Proper but blunt, Blaze takes after her mother more in terms of personality as well as cultural ties. Her ability to wield fire has made her quite the talk of the town, though her trouble controlling said fire has left her with little to no friends. She does get along well with Cream and Amy however and may come to find a good friend in Silver as they get to know each other.

this bit in amy's character bio is interesting to me because while there's nothing really wrong with it, a lot of fans are interpreting this as a dig against 2000s amy... in my mind the sentence before recontextualizes it as just another aspect of her development as a character rather than like. simply trying to move away from her "cringier" traits.

i think overall people aren't ready to see amy "give up" on her romantic pursuit (and for good reason - it's been such an integral part of her character as the source of a lot of her clumsy, charming moments). even more so knowing that the sonic franchise is in many ways simultaneously eternal and serialized, keeping the characters recognizable and the relationships engaging while satisfying that promise of progression seems tricky. how do you write a character maturing without eventually completely throwing out the flaws that made them compelling in the first place?

anyways uh closing thoughts. i think ppl are taking that line in bad faith tbh but maybe thats just me

#on another note amy rose isnt the only character ive seen this with. tails is a big one too #mfw my whole character revolves around my dream of being a hero like my idol brother #but im doomed to stay his little kid assistant for the rest of the franchise's lifespan #in a way its convenient sonic doesnt rlly have to face that problem. sure would be a headache if that were to change ah #sth #amy rose #blingee.txt
