If we premiere a play about the American Revolution here. Should we do a play about the Philippine Revolution + USPH war and premiere it on the US? 👀

I was wondering if you can share Any amephil headcanon of urs?
USPH ramble train unlocked hehe
note: I'll be referring to my PH OC throughout all this because she came first, but if anyone wants to use these hcs for their interpretation of canon PH feel free to as well!!
their first meeting is one of tense promise and suspicion; america comes in claiming himself to be this bastion of freedom, and part of philippines wanted to believe this boy came in to help her struggle for freedom against spain; the other part remembers what rizal had said about america, and can't help but feel suspicious by his intent. (she was right to.)
resentments are high at the end of the ph-us war, and rightfully so on philippines's part as she finds him a liar and a hypocrite; america meanwhile had come into it riding full of patriotic bravado after the end of the spanish-american war, but the end of this particular conflict had tempered that down. part of him tried to justify his actions under the banner of manifest destiny and american exceptonalism; the other part remembers twain's scathing critiques of the person sitting in darkness, and it twists his stomach
they get used to each other, occasionally getting along, but there is no love during the american colonial period, just a tense amiability at best; philippines views it at doing what she has to do to secure her freedom eventually, which she never stops badgering america for despite his promising it at some vague point in the future
america doesn't develop feelings for her until the thirties, whilst they worked during her transition towards independence; perhaps it was contrary that his feelings for her developed only after he was in the process of letting her go, but it was the potential of the bright, independent nation she could be that enamored her to him
her feelings don't become mutual until the fifties, after america earned her goodwill by returning during the second world war and giving her the independence he promised; the fifties comes with a hope for better things between them, an admiration for what america could be at his best... unfortunately, as time proves as the years go on, america's continued presence in her region will never not be complicated
philippines is still resentful of him, and rightfully so; on one hand she knows who america is, of his worst tendencies. but sometimes she thinks of the boy who told her under the stars at camp john hay what his dreams and aspirations for a better future are, and sometimes she allows herself to believe it
usually they do a good job at getting along, focusing on other matters of common interest between them; but sometimes those resentments bubble forth, and america doesn't blame her
she knows better than to trust him, having experienced his failings more than once; she still does, despite herself
part of his continued attachment towards her besides a genuine attraction is a desperation that someday he will move past his worst tendencies and the hope for a better, more peaceful relationship between them; it remains yet to be seen if he can, but for now, that hope is enough
they get along over shared interests beyond the realm of geopolitics; she's been enamored by his films and music for the longest time, and he's growing more interested in her food as of late. they both have a shared love of the outdoors together, although philippines prefers the beaches and america prefers hiking it out in the mountains
they bond over drinks and talk the night away, and sometimes when the alcohol gets to them and their tipsy enough they go out dancing, or they dance to the tunes playing out on the radio, and the world seems like they both want it to be for just a moment
their relationship today is affected by geopolitical necessity, the cloud of unresolved resentments, and the hopes and promises for something better. it has never been easy between them, and probably won't be for the foreseeable future, and talking about their relationship will never be easy
still, they hope one day that america's affirmation of them being 'a partnership of sovereign equals' will one day ring true

Hiii! Idk if you still do amephil headcanons but I've LOVED that pair for a looong time now and was wondering what you think their interaction was back in the early 1900's!
i am always game for sharing amephil headcanons! i may not post about them much anymore, but i do still regularly think about them
early 1900s amephil is very special to me. this is the height of their fruk era — that is, they care for each other, and are very determined to cloak that all under many layers of antagonism and petty bickering. how antagonistic they are is dependent on the exact year: 1900s, they are very frosty and don't actually talk; 1910s, they gradually start talking outside of official meetings; 1920s, they have fun together and petty bickering is the norm; 1930s, they start fucking; 1940s, they are very emotional. throughout all years, it is complicated — i touch on that a bit in my fanfic, "my heart is ever true" on ao3!
i like to think that america really wanted piri to live with him. it didn't matter where. whether it was at america's house, or the manila hotel where douglas macarthur made himself home, or the mansion at baguio that was built to be the summer residence for the american governor-generals, or anywhere else. he'd say he's just exercising his right as the colonizer, but he also just doesn't like to be lonely, and piri is the only one he can force to live with him.
which sucks, because after centuries of being hold up in spain's mansion, piri really wants to set up a home of his own, in the country of his own. but he also can't do much about it. so he sets out to be a really annoying housemate, but america takes it all in stride, so it's not all that effective of a revenge as he wanted to be.
i really like the thought of piri and america having the time of their life in the roaring twenties of old manila. this is after america fights in wwi, and when he comes back, he is desperate to leave that in the past. he throws himself into manila life with a fervor, and piri is all too happy to go along with that, if it means he can finally live in his capital. their days are filled with going to clubs, getting excited about movies, dancing the rigodon de honor at official balls, and walking along the pasig river. america teaches piri how to drive a car, both endeared and frustrated that piri keeps insisting on using the spanish terms for everything.

Vietnam: What's going on?
Philippines: Well Vivi, apparently America is gay, finds me very attractive, and confused about his sexual identity puked up all over my floor.
Vietnam: Oh dear.
Philippines: Yes.

America x Philippines?
A+: OTP A: I love it E: I don’t really like it
OKAY here me out... here me out. Everyone who knows me by now knows how much USPH brainrot I have swimming in my head. I also have a lot of complicated feelings towards it, and most portrayals of the ship just don't do it for me, especially since it is in principle a colony/colonizer ship and those are just. very hard to get right. A lot of times I prefer just seeing them as awkward friends with a somewhat contentious dynamic.
But when it's done well or when it's done to me highly-specific tastes I'm sorry I just. Eat it up so much. The divided feelings, the juxtaposition between resentment and the sordid reality, and the possibility of what could be. Amihan knows who Alfred F. Jones is, the man who is far from the benevolent figure he claimed to be when he first showed up on her shores in the name of Manifest Destiny. But sometimes she sees the boy who dwells in possibility, and wants to believe it.
Send me a ship and I will grade it!

you ship spaphil? why? (genuine question)
yes, because I have cognitive dissonance lmao
I actually ship spaphil and japphil? or pirikiku? rather than amephil (the fanarts and memes are great that's why I interact), because at least with Antonio, he's no longer a superpower 💀 it's cathartic and the colonial trauma hurts less now. spaphil dynamics can be fluffy or toxic or both, depending on what you want. obligatory cursed spaphil content (circa 1898):
antonio: sorry kitten 😔 daddy has to surrender
piri: okay
piri: yay!

I swear to god you ship ANYONE with China and suddenly its "UMM DID YOU KNOW THE CCP DID THIS, THAT'S WHY YOU CANNOT SHIP CHINA WITH THIS COUNTRY" but the same person in the same breathe ships like. America x (Country that was ravaged by America) and uwufies America. Again just REEKS of the Sinophobia this fandom has when you want to demonise China for the actions of the Chinese government but noo muhh Alfred is so wholesome!
If you can ignore the atrocities the Americans have committed against, Vietnam or the Philippines, for example, to ship Ameviet or Amephil, then I can have my stupid little catboy ship which was obviously never supposed to be taken seriously.
How come America x (Country that was ravaged by America) shippers don't need to put 10 different disclaimers about how they understand the American government is evil and has committed atrocities against that country. They can post art of America interacting cutely with a country it damaged with little to no backlash.
But with CHINA? NOOO CHINA IS MUHH EVIL.
Please just shut up.
Thank you.

which platonic piri friendship do you think is the most underrated/unexplored? (idk if I phrased that out properly 😭)
I feel like since his face was wiped out of the series entirely, barely anyone explored his friendship with Korea anymore. Like even in the early oc days when he was portrayed female, it was always a friendship.
But now that he's canon, no one does that anymore. Like what the heck guys? Feed me! And I'm gonna add AmePhil because people see them more as a ship, than a friendship.
I don't know what you guys see in them, but all I see is Shane and Ryan from buzzfeed unsolved. Like imagine if their relationship is like Shane and Ryan's, that would be gold. They would try to be serious with each other but can't because their braincells cancel eachother's out.
And have you seen these images:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I demand a buzzfeed unsolved au with these two!
