rewatching nope (2022) today bc it's my day off and god everything about this movie is sooooooooooo. it's so good. truly can't remember the last time I was in a theater kicking my feet giggling bc a film was so well put together like truly every other minute I was staring at the screen in awe like holy shit they did that!! how did they do that that is so cool!! the sound design, the set design, the characters, the THEMES and the NARRATIVE, the blocking in certain scenes. THAT FUCKING ALIEN girl I'm sorry I'll never be normal about this movie

Been having fun with desktop synths lately - the last couple of nights I've been playing on the Subharmonicon, Strega, and 0-ctrl; creating soft-generative patches. There's no explicit randomness, but the influence of different sequence lengths and modifiers on each other means that you're playing similar things a lot throughout a piece, but never the same. Like a less precise stochastic sequence.

The Strega is such a beautiful instrument, inviting you to "play" controls you wouldn't usually, like tuning or mix knobs. I love the way that turning down the wet makes the LPG-like pings so much more pronounced, while not really taking down the atmosphere around halfway through the recording.
