To pose as Aria and be Normal, Visser 3 would have had to consume human food. What happened when Alloran experienced the glories of taste for the first time? There must have been chaos for a few moments at least.

I imagine that the first time Alloran tasted human food was rather muted, as he would have been a Controller at the time, and Visser Three already had a habit of eating people who displeased him. Since we can safely assume most of Visser Three's monster morphs have a sense of taste (it being a vital sense for detecting poisons), Alloran's first encounter with taste was probably something kicking and screaming, not pizza or barbecue.

So, I figure there are several potential outcomes for Alloran when it comes to food:

One, Alloran is too traumatized by the experience of eating other people (including Elfangor) to want to eat with a mouth ever again.

Two, Alloran can distinguish between "Eating people" and "Eating pizza" and does allow himself to enjoy human foods when he's finally free.

Three, Alloran enjoyed the sensation of taste every time he encountered it, regardless of whether it was a person or pizza, and he is reluctantly the first Andalite vore enthusiast. (Dear god what can of worms have I just opened?)

Four, some complicated mixture of the first two options, where post-war Alloran tries to avoid eating as much as possible due to all the negative experiences with Visser Three, but slowly comes around to trying things on his own terms because he is free and has his own agency now, and discovers a profound love of cheese sauce. (This is my personal headcanon.)

I could keep going, since really there's any number of spins you could put on this. Maybe Alloran is a dedicated Vegan post-war. Maybe Alloran enjoyed eating Human food, but Visser Three only let him have access to the sensation of taste as a reward, or when eating people. Maybe Visser Three used the sense of taste as a weapon against Alloran. Maybe Visser Three used it as a reward. It really depends on how you choose to interpret things, I guess!

Speaking of things that have bugged me for a long time:

How does Visser Three use the yeerk pool?

Alloran is essentially unique among yeerk hosts in his ability to destroy himself and/or others if left to his own devices. Every morph V3 went and got? Yeah, Alloran’s got access to it as long as V3 isn’t home. Plus the tail blade, the andalite propensity for managing to suicide before they can get infested, and Alloran’s suicidal desire on top of that (which, totally fair)... it seems like the only obvious way to stop any of that from happening is to render him unconscious.

Problem there is that V3 is not into trusting anybody. Which, again, fair - yeerks are not into the whole ‘trustworthiness’ thing, particularly after they’ve been working with/under V3. You knock out the host, even if the yeerk stays conscious (which does not seem to always be the case) they’re going to be pretty much helpless. Easy prey for, say, an assassination attempt.

For that matter, what’s to keep someone else from taking over the body while V3′s out of it? An andalite host is clearly “better” for most purposes than anything else they’ve got; I can easily imagine someone with a voluntary host swapping in like V3 did in Andalite Chronicles. For bonus points, acquire the previous host, morph, and have the original make themself scarce. Where’d the andalite go? No idea. The chance of that can be mitigated by having more guards, each watching the others as well as Alloran, but only as long as they’re not all working together; again, see “not into trusting anybody”.

Besides all that, what’s to stop them from “not believing” that V3′s back in control? It’s demonstrably possible for a non-infested andalite who’s barely had any contact with yeerks to (briefly) impersonate a Controller, which is easily enough pretext to claim doubt. And it’s not like you can set up a signal in advance; anything V3 sees, hears, or says, Alloran can remember.

I KNOW, in Canon, for the Hosts of Yeerks, all their voices sound the exact same

And I KNOW, in Canon, for Visser Three's host that his voice sounds the exact same...

But it's <Thought-Speak>

It's Esplin's own speech and voice and cadence coming to life in a way he's never experienced before in his time, in all the Hosts he's possessed, none of them have given him the ability to hear his own voice being used to give orders and yell and scream and command as much as he fucking wants to instead of being trapped behind some barrier.

And how creepy would it be with the scene of Elfangor figuring out that "Alloran" isn't Alloran anymore and then suddenly that voice that Esplin was keeping up just drops into that psychotic narcissism he embodies with every breath.

I have arrived with a new hot take and it is this: Alloran is straight up the Andalite version of Marco. I’d like to blame the Andalite chronicles for this because there was a throwaway line where Elfangor said Alloran was short. “huh is Alloran so aggressive because he’s also really defensive about being shorter than average” I said to myself, putting the book down. Obviously not, Alloran is aggressive because of survivor’s guilt. Which is the same reason Marco developed his ruthlessness. They were also both directly impacted by the first Yeerk to control a member of their species and in both cases the Yeerk was elevated to Visser One. So just saying, Alloran is absolutely Marco just slightly different

-teenagers with a death wish- this has been living in my head nonstop. i want a tv reboot of animorphs in the style of neon genesis evangelion, leaning HEAVILY into that 90s anime aesthetic. something about the weight of war destroying childhood innocence got to me. (the lil colour squares is their colour-coded thought-speak)

Rachel with giant 80s anime bangs, completely unhinged.

Prince Elfangor’s last moments. He was lightly skimmed by a dracon canon and it basically took a scoop out of him like icecream.

I got two ways to resolve the book 1 plothole. a) make the injury so horrifically bad there’s no way for him to morph in time b) he’s lost the ability to morph after that fiasco with the Ellimist.

Visser 3 gloats. Alloran begs to be killed.

Similar to beavers, Andalites store minerals in their bones, which makes their tail-blades look black, and they’re strong enough to cut through earth-steel.
