What bands are nu-metal and what ones aren't
Ooh, tough one anon.
I'd say most metal bands from the mid 90s to the early 00s with down-tuned 7-string guitars and slap bass and that distinct snare and bellowing or nasally harsh vocals and rapping/scatting/speak-singing with lyrics centered around inward struggles, trauma, injustices, revenge, violence, pain, depression, addiction, and sometimes positivity in bleakness or even just straight up gloating and dissing with or without a hip hop influence can be considered nu metal to a certain degree (it doesn't have to have all of these though).
Founding bands like RATM, Pantera, Mr. Bungle, Bush, Alice in Chains, Faith No More, Acid Bath, Stone Temple Pilots, White Zombie, Sepultura, Helmet, and Primus for example I would not consider nu metal personally (more accurately grunge, post grunge, funk, groove, psychedelic, thrash, punk, and hip hop to name a few) but they influenced the genre so much and have such a similar sound that the label doesn't need to apply to recognize that they are very similar.
Nu metal bands in no special order include but are not limited to Korn, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, System of a Down, Sevendust, Snot, The Union Underground, Primer 55, Crazy Town, Shinedown, Dope, Drowning Pool, Static X, Seether, Soulfly, Machine Head, Godsmack, Disturbed, P.O.D., Coal Chamber, Puddle of Mudd, Crossfade, Incubus (mostly their earlier stuff when they're drawing more from hip hop), Deftones (same as Incubus), Skindred, Mudvayne, Linkin Park, Flaw, American Head Charge, Tool, Soil, Ministry and NIN and Rammstein and Fear Factory (on the more industrial side of things), Kid Rock, Papa Roach, Nonpoint, Kittie, Saliva, Spineshank, Ill Niño, Mushroomhead, Orgy, (Hed) P.E., Flyleaf, and Adema.
There are several newer bands incorporating deathcore and metalcore into nu metal like Tallah, Vended, and Alpha Wolf and that's it's own thing to be honest. There are a few that are sticking for the most part to the original sound or going more in the hip hop direction which is also interesting.

depends on what you mean by nü metal, like do you mean any band that identifies as mall goth music? bc theres a whole mix of other genres that are considered mall goth music (alternative, 90s industrial, sometimes funk metal, gothic metal, shock rock etc etc) or do you just mean nü metal by itself? (sorry im such a nerd abt this)
but some of my favorite NÜ-METAL bands are..
slipknot, korn, kittie, mudvayne, rage against the machine (aren't rlly nü but ill count them anyway), limp bizkit, sevendust, linkin park, sepultura, primer 55, skrape, snot, machine head, mushroomhead, etc
some underrated nü metal bands are..
twisted method, saliva, crazy town, ill niño, sepultura, orgy, adema, nonpoint, trapt, soulfly, the union underground, staind, stereomud, slaves of dope, otep, perfect nothing, body count, etc
im not including static x or deftones bc i consider them to be different genres (industrial and alternative)

Reunited FLYLEAF Confirmed For Next Year's BLUE RIDGE ROCK FESTIVAL
FLYLEAF, which recently reunited with singer Lacey Sturm, will perform at next year's edition of the Blue Ridge Rock Festival, set to take place September 7-10, 2023 in Alton, Virginia. Also set to appear at the event are COAL CHAMBER, TAPROOT (reunion show),COLD ("Year Of The Spider" 20th-anniversary show),ADEMA, SENSES FAIL, WOE, IS ME (original lineup reunion),FINGER ELEVEN, TECH N9NE, LIKE MOTHS TO FLAMES, DAYSEEKER and VILLE VALO.
As previously reported, FLYLEAF will also perform at next year's Sick New World festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. The band, which hasn't performed live since 2015, will join SYSTEM OF A DOWN, INCUBUS, KORN, EVANESCENCEDEFTONES and many others at the one-day event, which will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds.
Sturm left FLYLEAF in October 2012. She was replaced by Kristen May, who recorded one album with the group, 2014's "Between The Stars", before exiting.
Lacey opened up about her reasons for her departure from FLYLEAF in a video promoting her 2014 memoir "The Reason: How I Discovered A Life Worth Living". At the time, she said: "We were on our second album when I got married. And the album was called 'Memento Mori'. And 'memento mori' means remember you're mortal, remember that you'll die and remember that your life is short and precious and so are the lives of those around you.
"For two years, I toured with my husband and it was really amazing, and then after those two years, we ended up getting pregnant with my son," she continued. "And I recognized that my priorities were gonna change even more and that message of 'memento mori' and remembering how short your life is was really weighing on my heart.
"We toured for ten years. I mean, we weren't home for more than a month, probably, a year. So, for me, I just felt really blessed to be pregnant and to be in a place where I could stay home if I wanted to, and really ask that question: how is this gonna change my priorities? How is this gonna look? We had a few things happen that really brought that message home, but the one that hit the hardest was the death of our sound engineer [Rich Caldwell]. We did one last show with FLYLEAF as a benefit for his wife Katy and their son Kirby. And it was really hard to do a show without him, and it was really hard to think it could be our last show. So I remember looking at my son after Rich had passed and just wondering to myself, if this was the last year I had with my son, how would I spend it?
"It was really amazing to recognize this season changing in my life and the freedom that I was gonna be able to focus on my family. And I'm so thankful for that time. And although it was really hard, I'm thankful. And that's the reason I stepped down from FLYLEAF."
Back in 2016, Sturm was asked in an interview with RockRevolt Magazine if there was chance that she could reunite with her former bandmates after they had parted ways with May. She responded: "Well, you know, I feel like I'm the kind of person that I think so much happened that I never in a million years thought would happen, so I've learned to quit saying 'never.' But at the same time, I'm a really present person."
She added at the time: "I don't have any plans for that, but then again, you never know. I don't know… [Laughs] They haven't called me. And I don't have any plans [to go back]."
At several shows earlier this year, Sturm joined SEETHER on stage to perform the FLYLEAF song "I'm So Sick".
In December 2021, Sturm released the official music video for her latest solo single, "Awaken Love". The track followed the previously released "The Decree" and "State Of Me".

I’m really digging Greta Van Fleet right now. I can’t think of too many recent rock bands that I’m crazy over.
But I too, am a huge fan of Linkin Park. How bout Limp Bizkit, The Toadies, Isle of Q, and Adema for some 90s/early 2000s bands?
I’ve listened to a few Limp Bizkit back in the day. Never heard of the others. I liked Deftones and The Tea Party (not associated with the radical racist US party lol), Sum-41, Blink 182(especially the Cd with the sexy nurse a wee young baby me didn’t know why but I was obsessed with the cover 😂)
In Canada we had this CD mix album of like rock called Big Shiny Tunes that a little 8-10 year old discovered some 90s bands.
I’ve yet to listen to Greta van Fleet but another band I’ve oogled is Maneskin but dunno how popular they are in North America. Ive meant to listen to them but forget but my brain is still consumed by GnR and also Duff-Slash lol!!

Adema is an American rock band from Bakersfield, California. It was formed in 2000 initially with members vocalist Mark Chavez, guitarist Tim Fluckey, guitarist Mike Ransom, bassist Dave DeRoo, and drummer Kris Kohls.
Due to certain internal conflicts between the band members, there were a lot of lineup changes and the current roster consists of Ryan Shuck, Tim Flucky, Mike Ransom, Dave DeRoo and Kris Kohls.
Personally, their debut self titled album 'Adema' has 2 songs Giving In and The Way You Like It that I like the most and they are the most popular songs by the band. Apart from these 2, they have another song called 'Immortal' from their second album 'Unstable'.
