You know what really grinds my gears about the Annihilation movie? I can tell where they picked pieces from all three books. So I know they read all three books. And the arc of the trilogy as a whole is both so intertwined (in a way that both culminates and unravels) and much of the uncovering of it is so visual rather than verbal that you could genuinely compress the trilogy into a single movie, especially if you have some of books one and two playing out somewhat overlapping (as the movie actually does!) but they just... decided not to do that, and instead made up the most banal backstories for the biologist and the director, did nothing to retain Control at all even though he's got the most mindfuck-y dissolution, and then completely discarded any of the interesting tension of the overall trilogy's relationship to place, even though that's the core of the concept.

It's so bizarre that across every handheld system that Nintendo has ever produced from the original gray brick Game Boy all the way up to the present day with the Switch OLED, literally the only one that didn't have a headphone jack was the GBA SP. Why did they leave it out of that one and only that one specifically.

It's doubly annoying because the SP is otherwise the definitive Game Boy - it's the only device that can play original GB and GBC carts that also has a rechargeable battery and a backlit screen (aside from third-party hardware like the Analogue Pocket), so the omission of such a basic feature that literally everything else has is mind-boggling lmao
