#90s rave photos

I love the photography you use as references! Where do you find your refs?Your use of lighting is always so goood I love it!
I strongly recommended checking out Stacy Kranitz’s “From the Study on Post Pubescent Manhood.” Your ideas on Floyd and his band remind me a lot of the shenanigans she photographed in Skatopia. https://www.stacykranitz.com/post-pubescent
I looked up that project! Thank you for making me aware of it. Some photos are a bit too extreme even for the band but I did love going through all of them. I can definitely see a few good references in there :D
The photos I used I mostly found just by searching "90s rave photos". Though I did find a pretty cool website documenting old techno rave photos (mostly from Berlin and around Germany, which i feel is the rave capital, so basically goldmine)
this is the website: https://zeitmaschine.org/
and they also have an active insta account if that's more practical for you: https://www.instagram.com/zeitmaschine.analog.rave/

2024 Golden Globe Awards | Los Angeles, CA | January 7, 2024
Gucci gown
Let it be known my Roman Empire is painted a shade of aurora borealis green.
I’m biased. I love it. You’re buckling up for a rave. But everyone knew that, right?
I want it on record that no one should be surprised when they see this lewk on the TSS Favourite Outfits of 2024 list. And that I’ll devise some maniacal strategy to make it make sense to include in every annual list from here to eternity.
Let's get the obvious out of the way in that this shade of green could easily be interpreted as very snakelike and thus a nod to reputation and its forthcoming re-recorded version. I'd even happily apply it to the teal-y and springlike green of debut if we want to go debutation on this.
But if we are to talk about Gucci we have to talk about the precipice the house is upon right now. As it relates to Taylor, I suspect her dress (specific shade TBD - Chartreuse? Apple? Pear? Some other adjacent fruit that’s a feast for my eyes?) is a preview of Fall 2024 and a clear indicator of the path the new creative director Sabato De Sarno’s will take the brand in. Which is to say, muting the eccentricity of Alessandro Michele’s era of Gucci that brought the brand to a new level of renown in favour of something cleaner and sexier. Nicole Phelps for Vogue already noted that De Sarno’s first collection for Gucci — Spring 2024’s Ancora, meaning ‘again’ in English and released in September — evokes a Gucci when Tom Ford was once at the helm, praising De Sarno’s approach to “the upfront sex appeal of those ’60s-by-way-of-the-’90s shapes, and straight riffs on Ford hits” while “establish[ing De Sarno’s] essentials, focusing on cut and proportion, and repeating shapes for emphasis.”
Indeed, Taylor’s gown is directly reminiscent of a Fall 2004 look from Ford’s Gucci - all green sparkles and sexy disco energy. This makes sense when we consider De Sarno’s history and homeworking when he decided to take the creative director post. He told WWD, “Gucci to me equals luxury … the first fashion piece I ever owned was a Gucci jacket by Tom Ford. I still remember I traveled to Rome to buy it with my friend … luxury was really not part of our world. Television was the only way to see fashion for me back then.” He added, “My ambition is to build an aesthetic message with an edited collection that is mindful of Gucci’s heritage and close to my own aesthetics.”
When we consider my personal history with Taylor and Gucci, I don’t have to look very far to immediately picture one of my all time favourite Taylor looks — the 2014 Grammys when she wore a sparkling Gucci Première column gown which is not too dissimilar to this one. What can I say, I’m consistent. The shape, the perfect kiss-the-floor hemming, and obviously the divine colour that really pops on Taylor will have me swooning for a long time.
At the end of it all, what I come back to is De Sarno’s sentimentality to naming his first collection: Ancora. Again. He told WWD, “Ancora is a word that you use when your desire is not over yet … I want to fall in love with fashion all over again — ancora.” In the same interview he said, “I like words a lot, they have weight and a precise meaning, they convey emotions, so I like artists who use words.”
It dawns on me that Taylor’s light is shining at its brightest now as she highlights, celebrates, and - indeed - falls in love with all the versions of herself she has ever been. Revisiting her eras past again. And again. In every re-record. In every step she takes on stage. In every cutting line she writes in ruminating and revisiting the experiences of her life and translating them into song. She’s flitting, flirting, memorializing all her past selves in celebration of their summation of her current self. And that’s what this ‘era of eras’ has been.
So if this is De Sarno’s Gucci I say welcome. Ancora.

use a photo on your phone camera roll and write a quick scene/hc for it
Ooh, how cute!! This was written on a day when the caffeine won, if that isn't already abundantly clear. Unedited and off the cuff. Gif isn't mine, but has been sitting in my camera roll for a hot minute. Message me for credit!

It was another beautiful morning in the garden of Eden. Last night's rainfall was but a memory now, as the sun shone brilliantly through the open windows of their humble abode. A nice breeze stirred the trees and ruffled the floral curtains in the study. Day two of tinkering on his latest project brought more of the same. Those tiny screws were driving him nuts as nimble fingers trembled to hold them still until they were secured into place. It was a peaceful repetition that he took pride in. He had the patience of a saint to sit hunched over the open tower, piecing together the perfect machine bit by bit, but it would be well worth it in the end.
From across the house, her soundtrack gave him whiplash. What started as today's latest hits transitioned to 90's boy bands, old country ballads, and everything in between. He couldn't help but chuckle as he listened to the tiny rave that took place in the kitchen, a party for one. Leaning back in his chair to take a peek down the hall, he caught glimpses of his little dj jamming out to Backstreet's Back as she buttered her toast. He'd been up for hours, long enough to get in a run and a shower, but her day was just getting started. Her hair was piled atop her head in a bun, messy and wild, and the shirt she'd stolen from his side of the closet billowed around her thighs as she swayed. In his moment of distraction, his hands slipped. The screw clattered against the hardware and disappeared down into a corner out of reach.
"Shit. Uh...Darling?" he called over the opening notes of Benny and the Jets. "Think I could get your help for just a moment?"
"Coming!" she called over her shoulder, took a bite of her breakfast, then wiped her hands on a paper towel. When she appeared in the doorway, she was a vision of natural beauty. No wonder Adam had been so tempted. Low hanging fruit is the sweetest. "Whatcha need, big guy?"
He turned the tower a bit and pointed down into it. "I dropped a screw down here. Would you mind to fish it out for me?" She laughed and nodded, moving to squeeze between him and the desk to try her hand at it. Delicate fingers felt through the intricate network of wires and cables in search for the tiny screw. The tip of her tongue poked out a bit as she searched blindly for it. Watching the focus on her face had him oddly aroused, and she didn't even flinch when his hands came up to brush along the smooth, supple skin of her thighs. He found himself distracted again with the line of her panties, when she called out in victory. Pinched between her thumb and forefinger, she held it up for him to see. "Got it!" To her surprise, he took it from her and discarded it into the small dish on the corner of his desk.
"What's wrong? I thought you wanted to finish this today."
He smirked, wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her down to sit in his lap. "Oh, I will. Watching you now, though, I've just remembered something."
Raising an eyebrow in suspicion, a playful smile spread across her face. Surely she was picking up what he was putting down. "Yeah? And what's that?"
When he kissed her, his intentions were made clear. "You're looking especially delicious this morning, and I haven't had breakfast yet."
He didn't pick up another screw until later that afternoon.

I came up with Floyd's (other) ex band mates and then I went a little insane about them. . . Anyway they're all alternative trolls who adopted him into their group. They play nu metal at underground gigs but mostly they just go to raves and get stoned out of their gourds.
original photos under the cut
I googled "90s rave photos" and had such a hard time choosing which to draw. i might make more of them in the future...

< As for Skarsgård’s chiseled and menacingly inked-up “dude with the dragon tattoo” look in the second half of the film (see photo of him standing in front of a mirror), Sanders says that his inspiration was less cribbed from O’Barr’s graphic novel or Lee’s previous incarnation than from his own life. “I think the beauty of Bill is that he has a disturbing beauty, and as he transforms through his loss he becomes this thing that even he can’t control. It’s that famous line: ‘Whoever fights monsters must be careful that they don’t become one.’ That look was me in the ’90s when we were squat-raving in London, [mixed with some modern influences] like Post Malone and Lil Peep. I hope people who are 19 today look at him and go, ‘That guy is us.’” That image captures the beginning of his transformation into the Crow. “It’s the moment we realize bad things are coming.” >
Is it too difficult to just read the whole article ??
The truth is that the crow fan base is so annoying. They are literally trashing a movie that hasn't even come out yet, purposefully ignoring that this is supposed to be a different version of The Crow …
In any case, they would have also complained if they had kept the "original" look and story.

15 questions for 15 mutuals
@malibubarbiethepinkprincess tagged me to do this lol thank u qween
1) Are you named after anyone?
My mom actually named me Karma after a rave she went to on her 19th birthday, but my middle name is Renee after her aunt who died young in the 80s bc she had an asthma attack while dyeing her own hair alone at home and stopped breathing bc of the fumes 😭

8) Any special talent?
I’m a pretty good singer!! I used to be a lot better when I was younger and I used to constantly practice and study vocal technique online bc I wanted to sing professionally. My dream at one point was to be an opera performer. Now that I’m an adult my voice has deepened a significant amount and also I’ve been smoking for years and don’t rlly practice or work on technique anymore so my singing isn’t nearly as impressive as it was back then, but I still sing for fun a lot and in some ways I think I sound better now that my voice has matured. I also used to play covers of random songs on ukulele while singing by myself at home when I was younger lol. And I draw and paint too.
9) Where were you born?
South Jersey
10) Scary movies or happy endings?
I hate this question bc they’re not mutually exclusive concepts and also both are good as long as they’re executed well and make sense with the overall point of the movie.

Yes! I have a chihuahua named Pandora but I just call her Panda 90% of the time (she was named after the Skins character) and a fluffy tabby cat named Xena who I’ve had since I was nine years old. Also my mom has a chihuahua-maltese mix named Cosmo and he’s like my four-legged little brother .
12) How tall are you?

15) Dream job?
I do not dream of labor but like the best things I’ve thought of maybe doing as a career in the future are probably like… teaching middle school or counseling or smth like that . Or maybe I’ll go to beauty school 🤔

Rammstein - Elysée-Montmartre, 25.11.1997. Review by Hard-Rock. Photo by Marc Villalonga
Till Lindemann, the singer, is lucid: “This Strasbourg date will give us no information about our popularity in France: 90% of La Laiterie is filled with Germans. We will see tomorrow, in Paris.”
Appointment made backstage the next day with a crestfallen Lindemann: "As expected, yesterday's concert was excellent. It was a concert in Germany, actually. But tonight we have never played under such pressure. The Prefecture of Police wanted to ban the show. They let us play but warned us that they could cut the whole electrical system if they didn't like what we were doing. We were tense and gave an abominable concert. But I retain one positive thing from all this: the public. He saved us with his indulgence and above all his enthusiasm. “
Bad gig Till? You don't have to say anything, though. At the end of the rather short set, the reactions were all excellent. In the toilets of the Elysée-Montmarte, the fans queuing to drink a little water all went there with their rave comments. It's true, you don't see concerts like that every day. There was not the whole show of course since the Prefecture had put its nose in it: the group had the right to use explosives. But French explosives. And go and find some in Pigalle. Administration is fine. So, we can talk about a stripped-down show, and ultimately, so much the better: the star tonight was not the fire. It was the music. Sublime, with surgical precision. Listening to Rammstein's rhythm guitars makes you want to go buy a six-string as everything looks easy and remains so effective. Like when Mac Enroe was playing tennis and it seemed like nothing could be simpler. The public did not always show overflowing enthusiasm beyond the first ten rows. But who would blame them? There were a lot of curious people, people who came to see the beasts of the fair, the phenomena, the freaks. But between the pieces, the respectful applause was deafening. In a very theatrical way (the guitarists freeze when they are not playing), the group gave an amazing concert in Paris, unfortunately one piece was cut off from Strasbourg, the drummer having burnt out during the whole concert because of of a spotlight placed too close to his back. Till, sickly shy, who had entered the stage with his Terminator glasses, said only two words on stage: "Thank you Paris". Behind the scenes, looking us straight in the eye, he said, "I'll be back." This is what we hope with all our heart.

Sir Chloe – Music Hall of Williamsburg – April 13, 2024
Tumblr media
After putting out a host of singles, Sir Chloe’s highly anticipated debut full-length, I Am the Dog, arrived last May, earning plaudits from fans and critics alike: “Along with a twangy, soft-loud art-punk sound that evokes the influence of ’90s icons like the Pixies and Hole,” raves AllMusic, “Sir Chloe have a knack for crafting sharp-tongued anthems that are often built around the struggle between the ego and the id, or more specifically, the human and the animal.” On Saturday at a sold-out Music Hall of Williamsburg, the Vermont five-piece kicked off a two-night run.

That '90s Show Episodes (part1)
Things I know (tapings, photos inside scoops, etc) and predictions I'm making.
1.) That '90s Pilot- It takes place on the 4th of July, Eric and Donna appear. It's a wonderfully fun episode that really does feel like a family reunion. (I've seen a edited version of it, probably just missing the last 5 minutes with Jackie and Kelso and maybe a few moments in between scenes)
Tumblr media
2) Free Leia- I think this is a play on the movie title 'Free Willy' and maybe the new 90s gang is trying to help Leia either maybe fit in in Point Place or spend time outside of Red and Kitty's home. This is also the episode that we will probably see the new gang in Red and Kitty's room, looking through their closet-my guess is they're looking through Red's flannels lol
Tumblr media
3.)Lip Smackers- In this episode we meet Sherri, Gwen and Nates Mom and we also see Fez again and find out that the two are dating. In this episode passed off the title and this photo from the episode, I say Leia and Jay will have their first kiss on the new Forman's new car.
Tumblr media
4.) Rave- MY Episode!! Okay, it's not mine but it hold a very special place in my heart. It's the first time I ever saw a TV show being filmed and I had the best time. And had some wonderful memories with Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith. It's kind a filler episode but, honestly filler episodes are my favorite. I love this episode.
Tumblr media
5.) Step by Step- Leia deals with the aftermath of Rave. We see the character played by Olivia Sanabia-possibly one of Jay's exes, I really don't know. This is also probably the episode that we see Red and Kitty take on the home computer and I am EXCITED!!!

Weather Balloon
Dale’s hands were shaking so badly he could barely dial the phone.
“Whiteman Air Force base. How may I direct your call?”
Dale took a deep breath. He had to sound calm, credible.
“I just saw a UFO. I mean, I’d like to report a sighting—“
“One moment please,” came the reply. No judgment, no surprise, no laughter. Maybe they handled this sort of thing all the time. Dale listened to military recruitment ads while he waited, which was good because it allowed him to organize his thoughts.
“Sergeant Donnelly.”
The voice on the phone sounded weary.
“I’d like to report an unidentified flying object. A machine, actually, hovering over my property. It was circular, maybe 60 feet in diameter, and it emitted a blue glow—“
“Son, hold on a sec. You saw a what?”
Dale sighed. “A flying saucer. I swear, that’s what it was. Hovering in broad daylight, over—“
“Now, son,” he imagined Sergeant Donnelly as a grizzled old war vet, stuck answering phones, but still doing his duty, patiently dealing with the public. “I’ll be happy to take your report, but honestly? Most of these things turn out to be regular military aircraft, tricks of the light—“
“It was metal,” Dale interrupted. “And glowing blue. It hovered over my yard, then shot off at thousands of miles an hour. It was not a plane.”
“I see. One moment, please.”
The line clicked, and Dale caught the last few seconds of the recruitment ad before it looped. Donnelly returned quickly.
“Okay, now I’m recording. Tell me what you saw again.”
Dale repeated what he’d said, and included every detail he could think of. Eventually Donnelly thanked him for his report and made end-of-call sounds.
“That’s it?” Dale asked. “That’s all? What happens next?”
“Well, son, frankly… nothing. We file a copy with the FAA and keep it here for 90 days before it gets tossed. Unless you got photographic evidence?”
Dale bit his lip. “No. I didn’t have my phone.”
“So. No photos, no evidence, just… a citizen saw something weird. Not much to go on, you understand.”
“But what do you think it was? You’re the expert. You know what I saw. Surely you know something.”
Donnelly was silent for many seconds before answering.
“You saw a weather balloon. That’s what I’d go with. A weather balloon.”
Dale’s frustration and rage boiled over. “That was no balloon! I told you—“
“Yep. Definitely a weather balloon. I’m even writing it down here. Resolved: Weather Balloon. You have a nice day, hear?”
The line clicked and Dale nearly threw the phone. He paced his living room, peered out between the drapes at the sky, went outside, came back in. He dug his camera out of the closet and replaced the batteries before slipping it into a front pocket.
Weather balloon! He ground his teeth in fury.
But then a thought occurred. Ten seconds of Googling gave him the phone number he wanted.
“KSHB ActionNews, your Kansas City source for news! How may I direct your call?”
“Weather desk. I’d like to speak with a meteorologist, please.”
The music-on-hold was soft and jazzy, and after ten minutes Dale was about to hang up. What was he hoping to accomplish? It was a silly notion after all, not bound to resolve anything… but just as he’d decided to hang up a new voice greeted him.
“Parker, meteorology.”
Dale decided to be careful. Raving about UFOs was a bad idea.
“Um… what do you know about weather balloons?”
Long pause. “You mean in general? Like, you’re doing a school science project?”
Dale laughed. “No, no… I mean, what do they look like?
“Ah. Thought you sounded a little old for school. Weather balloons… well, big, round, and usually silver. Close to the ground they’re kind of torpedo shaped, like a really long jellyfish. See one at altitude and it’s round, more traditionally balloon-like. Why?”
“Well,” Dale took a breath. “What’s the chance I’d see one floating around? Kind of… hovering… over my neighborhood?”
Another long pause as if Meteorologist Parker was adjusting the phone, maybe sitting down. “Whereabouts you live?”
Dale told him. This earned another long pause.
“Mister Parker? You still there?”
“Oh, hmm," Parker eventually replied. "Just trying to decide… oh hell, why not? The truth? Your chances of seeing a weather balloon out there are zero. Zilch. None.”
Dale blinked, stood up straighter. “Tell me why.”
“Well, it’s very simple. Weather forecasters haven’t used ‘em for close to 40 years! Last balloon I remember working with was… 1978? Yeah. Something like that. Even then it was kind of cute. I mean, we’ve had Doppler radar, satellites, remote wireless reporting stations… for years. Hell, even I get most of my weather from Google! So you seeing a weather balloon in this day and age is kinda impossible.”
“I see,” Dale whispered. The saucer was back. He could see it hovering over treetops, between the gap in the living room curtains.
“So tell me why you called… no, lemme guess. You saw a UFO. Right?”
“Um,” Dale watched the saucer approach low over the trees, branches waving gently below. It emitted a blue glow, pale but visible in broad daylight. There was a hissing noise, like static.
“Hello? What?” Parker sounded agitated. “Oh crap, I have another call, one sec.”
Parker put Dale on hold as the saucer descended in front of the trees. Dale held the phone to his ear listening to smooth jazz, watching the saucer come in for a landing.
The phone clicked, buzzed, and a familiar voice returned to the line.
“I changed my mind,” he heard Sergeant Donnelly say. “Not a weather balloon. Swamp gas. Repeat that back to me, son.”
The saucer had set down, the blue glow fading. A seam appeared in the side, like a doorway. The seam expanded into a black gap.
Dale tried to say something, anything, but all he could manage was a hoarse whisper.
“Close enough. Yep. Definitely swamp gas. And leave the nice weather people alone, you hear me? We’ll be in touch.”
The phone clicked dead in his hand. A slab of saucer-metal had separated from the hull and lowered to the ground, like a ramp. A pair of F-16s roared overhead and the sound of helicopters came to him from the distance, growing closer.
“Swamp gas,” Dale whispered into the dead phone.
