How'd you get into KK/CK, and how'd you get into Silverusso? :3

Long post is long and rambling

I never even made it through KK3 before I was whipping out my phone checking AO3 for stories 😂

I actually go into it through Tumblr - although I never created an account I would check certain blogs on Tumblr for other things and would see posts for it.

The 80’s is my least favourite decade - for fashion music and movies 😂 - and I suppose I���ll be run out of town for that statement - so I had never seen any of the KK.

I did know who Ralph Macchio was and I did know Karate kid - the story of it and of course the crane kick is literally part of the pop culture lexicon.

I read some Lawrusso stories on AO3 and ended up looking up the movies - reviews and summaries etc and general research on it - to know what was canon Vs fanon.

I remember reading the reviews and even stuff in KK3 thinking - no way is that in a kid’s karate move from the 80’s lol

Of all the KK movies it was KK3 I wanted to watch the most - I went hunting for clips on YouTube etc

I eventually watched CK by myself - and was explaining it to a friend of mine - we get together and watch movies every week - and he loves the KK movies and the 80’s - so I suggested he watch it and he told me to watch the movies.

So, we decided to marathon the three KK movies (for me) before starting the two seasons of CK (for him) - that were available at that time - which we also marathoned.

We ended up doing it out of sequence though - we watched CK two seasons first then the KKs.

That was mid to late December of 2020 I believe - when I did the movies and shows.

We actually did the first two seasons of CC mid December and KK was after Christmas before new years.

I do remember that cutting into Christmas movie watching so we could get it done in time for season 3 lol- which premiered Jan of 2023 - we ended up marathoning that the day it released and have down every subsequent season lol

He also wouldn’t let us watch the KK series out of sequence when I said to start with three first.

My memory is crap but pretty sure that’s how it went

So spring/summer of 2020 was kind of my introduction to it all - when it first pinged my radar because, I’m pretty sure that before I wrote the first story - the pegging series - which was late Nov/early Dec of 2020 - I hadn’t actually watched the show or any KK at that point - I wrote that blind - based on clips, gif sets and the summaries/reviews I read.

Considering it was Covid and I marathoned the movies and show with a friend and Season three premiered Jan of 2021, it was definitely December where I actually watched it.

We did the KK1 and 2 back to back and then the next week was KK3 and a Christmas movie lol

I remember KK3 - after the dojo scenes 🥵- phone out checking AO3 - not even joking - never even made it though before I was checking and was so crushed when there was only like two stories - because the potential - the size difference the sugar daddy AUs - and I chalked it up to the age of the movie and the fact that it wasn’t the most popular of the franchise.

I remember thinking Daniel was early 20’s - considering Macchio’s age and Daniel leasing a building lol and when I googled his birthday it said Dec of 1966 making him 18 almost 19 in it.

The enigma that is his age and that movie in general - such a hot mess the timeline.

I also looked up TIG and Macchio while watching it and found out Ralph’s four or so months older than TIG - we got a kick out of that 😆

You know, I went into Cobra Kai fully believing that I would be shipping LawRusso - and I did, still do. What totally blindsided me was the Silverusso. Like holy SHIT. From the instant Terry appeared he stole the show for me - the charisma, the charm, the magnetic presence, the psychological makeup...and then, when he decided to ruin Danny-boy’s life, the chemistry between them in all their scenes was OFF THE CHARTS. 

I hadn’t seen KK3, so I watched it and what the actual fuck? Like, nothing about Terry and Daniel’s relationship in that movie is normal - even by psycho standards. It has serious Red Riding Hood and Wolf vibes - was it intentional? What were the filmmakers thinking? Was everyone on crack or something? Was this considered normal in the 80s? This is like, the most psychosexual kids movie of all time. (And any which way, the vibe between them even then was eclectic.) 

Silverusso literally ships themselves at this point, it’s absolutely mental and deranged and I’m living for it. And the thing in, I actually feel they would be SO good for each other - if Terry wasn’t fucking evil. He ruined it for himself. (Maybe that’s why in CK Daniel and Silver so often wear complimentary colours and clothing with the blues and the blacks - the parallels connecting them are so very visually delicious!)

Well, Nonny, good to know I'm not the only one because that was basically what happened to me, beat for beat. As for the vibes, I'm putting that under the cut.

On the one hand, going by two of Ralph's works I'm obsessed with, young Terry and Cuba - I think that yeah, something was going on for these things to get greenlit. What the everloving f***. I mean I am not complaining but looking at the things they didn't modernise for CK with Silverusso, which was the D/s style seduction techniques - maybe the supermarket scene but even there ("you know you liked it," sure, but Danny boy's trying very hard not to fall for it) and he is buttering up none of the other kids like he did Daniel; and the fact that young Terry has a staff of very young boys whom he talks to in the bath - that just wouldn't fly. And then just before they made Ralphie's teenage character get groomed by an adult junkie and lusted over by his father, who also dommed him around in other ways, on Broadway. And hardly anyone so much as commented on that.

I only have one explanation and that is that if kinky things do nothing for you, maybe people just don't see it. If people try to write kink - mostly to show that characters are depraved somehow - but they don't feel it, they write all kinds of leather and whips and bondage and toys and torn fishnets in Walmart and what have you. I guess people do that, I couldn't say from experience, but you don't need any of it for the vibes. Cue Thomas, who spent his entire career Domming people on screen in broad daylight, fully clothed, no matter the film, and no one ever stopped him because no one was visibly having sex or even touching.

And sure, maybe the line with "traditional" masculinity is very thin. But the clues are always in him being both very considerate and protective - he is like this off screen too - and then jokingly pulling someone to him (he did this with Ralph when he changed a handshake into a hug) or giving a lighthearted order to see if someone will let him. Just something like "Come here, you," or "Hey, stop that" with that big smile of his, nonthreatening, you can shrug that off with a smile or a shoulder squeeze and no harm done... or like Terry, you can build that into something that starts with a soft "well done" and an arm pat and ends in the bedroom, that is, if someone is receptive to that. But that doesn't read as seduction to most people, they just let it be, while Terry was feeling Daniel up and had him follow commands without question by the end of the film...

I think the CK writers on the one hand are very aware of the vibes, hence the complimentary colours, but as Thomas didn't improvise these scenes (he did in tkk3) they read a little different. I think that if Thomas had had completely free rein, Terry would not have left Daniel at the end of their fight scene, but taken him to his house to finish what he started 35 years ago.

Also, "Terry would be so good for Daniel if he weren't evil" - I think there is a very good reason Daniel married Amanda, who looks like a young Terry in female form and is no stranger to telling Daniel what to do. And I think Terry knows exactly what kind of woman Amanda is, going by their scenes together.

Honestly I think he's flattered.

After the beach the guys give Daniel a chance because he’s stubborn as shit and they find he’s not into Ali. Not even into girls but that’s nothing new around their part of the country. They find he’s actually really funny and annoyingly nice and loyal. Daniel gets so fucking worked up and angry when people say shit about them, even if it is true and the guys find it both amusing and kinda nice to have another one of them.

Daniel sort of becomes the baby of the group, both because he’s the youngest (both in age and in terms of being apart of their group) and because the guys all think he’s adorable. Not that they tell him or each other that, because that’s kinda gay.

It’s not until there’s this match, they’re all competing and Daniel’s there to cheer them on. He didn’t have much interest in participating but he enjoyed watching the guys compete, found it fun and liked the post victory high they all held.

Johnny wins (again) but Dutch comes second this year and he’s absolutely glowing with pride. He usually gets disqualified after round 2, too hopped up on adrenaline and ready to fight anything that breathes funny.

The guys all come out to the parking lot, looking for Daniel so they can all head to their favourite diner and celebrate. Thoughts came to an abrupt stop when they find him in the parking lot, leaning against Johnny’s car with a scowl and some big guy from the tournament standing in front of him. He’s got his arms crossed, the guy leaning with one arm up by his head while the other keeps trying to tug at Daniel’s arm.

The Jersey kid keeps pulling away, glaring as he says something or other. The big guy laughs, hand coming up to cup Daniel’s cheek.

The guys don’t need to know what happens next since their all running forward. Dutch is the fastest and loudest, pulling the guys attention toward them before he’s tackling him to the ground. Daniel’s eyes go wide but he doesn’t get the chance to react much, Tommy and Bobby coming up to him and dragging him away as Johnny, Dutch and Jimmy square off with the guy.

So maybe they care for Daniel a little more than they were willing to admit to themselves. And maybe Daniel’s been crushing on them since he met them all a year ago. And maybe they all turn out to be a bunch of possessive, jealous assholes when literally anyone tries hitting on their baby. And maybe! They take him home to Johnny’s (cause the guys parents are gone again) and take their turns and their sweet ass times showing him exactly who he belongs to now that they’ve gotten their heads out of their asses.

Daniel shows up to school Monday, limping like a mf, sporting a shit ton of hickies (some of them just barely hidden under his clothes) and with the widest smile anyone has ever seen on him. The Cobras don’t really act any different, nor does Daniel honestly, but everybody knows there’s a change in their dynamic.

It’s in the way Dutch gives up his food even though he’s the most possessive over it. It’s how Bobby smiles at the mere mention of Daniel. How Tommy snuggles in close to Daniel in the halls or at lunch. How Jimmy quiets near instantly when Daniel places a hand on his arm or smiles his way. How Johnny hovers constantly and glares at everyone who looks a moment too long.

Even Daniel has changed around them. He’s a little softer (more tame some would even dare say) has these little tells with each Cobra Kai member to get them to do whatever he wants. It’s kinda adorable to see the baddest kids in school wrapped around his little finger.

I keep thinking about a Karate Kid/Stranger Things mash-up, but I don't know if you watch Stranger Things. If you don't it literally doesn't matter except that it's All The 80's Archetypes fighting demons and there's a shithead from California that moves to a small town in Indiana.

Anyway, Johnny and Daniel and the Cobras have to fight psychic demons in a creepy Hell version of Los Angeles, your take?!?!?!!!!?

I wish I had more to say but I really haven’t seen the show in a bit :( I’ll update this when I rewatch.

all i want to say is that the only reason johnny went back into karate again was because he saw daniel on tv and needed to come up with a reason to touch him again, and no there is no argument against facts
