I've seen a lot of people doing before and after photos of their WoLs in the current game and the benchmark and that made me want to do one too for Xarann~
The left side is his current graphics, and the right side is his benchmark.
He looks a little bit older, and the white eyelashes under his eyes don't stand out as much (I suspect that is a lighting thing. I can see the little lashes a lot better in the actual trailer), but overall I'm very happy with his update. The improved lighting alone has me excited. I'll be curious to see how it looks in the actual game in darker areas, because right now it's Not Great xD

1 - Auren or

imo miqos had the most drastic change, but i only have them, viera and hyurs to compare

h8ed it at first but now.. still far from how i actually see him/how he is in non-ffxiv AUs, but it's kinda okay? better than Ren anyway. kinda slaying. kinda more suitable for an (ex)Nunh
3 - Shura

he looks as de4d inside as he should. i probably won't even redo his texture much, only add more eye makeup

benchmark varha has arrived
not mad at it tbh, like now her vanilla face is fine? i don't love it but it's fine, i don't think this is visually jarring to the point I'll have to wait for mods to come back before i play :p wish i was able to see how the actual vanilla hair i use looks, but it's lyse's hair and the benchmark only had the basic choices. ive still got a fantasia in my inventory i might use to adjust some stuff later on, but overall yeah, im fine with this. i think the biggest improvement overall would be the jaw options, like im actually allowed to have some facial structure this time around. also i genuinely forgot how fucking Big the keeper pupils were hjgdf
i Do miss my hair & eyes already but im sure the mods will be up & running soon enough after the full release lmao + it's not like i won't be able to re-watch cutscenes later anyway
& just for fun here's a comparison between the three versions. new, old, modded in that order. not like,,, the best shots probably lmao, but i think you can see what i mean about the face shape. i don't know if the skintone itself has been altered or if it's just a side effect of the lighting changes either.

I wanted to write something about benchmark for two days and even made 2 small posts. In one I was a little upset, in the second it seemed to me that everything might not be so bad... In general, I'd rather hide this, there will probably be a lot of sadness, please don't read this if you don't want to see something sad. Maybe I'll delete it all later.
I will not delete this post. I'll put the right tags and let it stay here. I want other people who feel the same way right now to see that they are not alone.
I have two pictures that I should have finished, but instead I spent two days on the forum trying to do at least something in a feeble attempt to save her face.
I described the facts, I took a billion screenshots, I whined, I left a bunch of messages in a bunch of different threads in the hope that they would be noticed, I reported a bug in the bugs section, I even left a message on the Japanese forum.
All I can think about is that on this beautiful ocean and on this beautiful ship, she and I will sit and try to accept the fact that she was crippled by an evil plastic surgeon. And all this instead of joy and anticipation of new adventures. All I hope is that this will be fixed before 7.0 is released. I am still an optimist (although now it may not seem like it, but I am truly an optimist).
One my dear friend said that I am very attached to her. This is true. And I feel that I have to do at least something so that this horror remains only in the benchmark.
This is how she now looks in any directional light. In the benchmark movie too. Wherever the light hits, she looks like this.
I don't think it should be like that. It's obviously not just a change in the shape of her lips, it's a mistake in the lower part of her face that's giving her a huge, horizontal, ugly hollow that runs across her mouth and cheeks. The top of her face is fine.
She definitely looks better with her back to the light, but her sweet smile has disappeared.
I made a comparison collage and it became clear to me that although all miqo faces are affected by this in one way or another, her face type was affected much more than the other 3 and it is most noticeable on this face and this type of lips.
I met another person on the forum with a similar character and the same type of face and she told me that she felt and saw everything the same as me.
There were opinions that in the “new” lighting her old little dimples at the corners of her mouth could turn into this because “they didn’t touch her face.” This is wrong. I looked at her from all angles "before and after", under all possible lighting and obviously there had been changes in the shape of her face in this area.
The lips became flat and depressed. Their previous form was completely deformed.
I won't change her with fantasia. I have never changed she and will not do so. I'm just really sad right now and I hope this gets fixed.
If not... oh well. I'll fix it myself. That's the plan :)

Dawntrail Benchmark Vs My WoLs
First of all, for those of you that missed it, the benchmark is available for download:
The rest of this post is gonna be under a cut as I'll be posting 6.0 vs 7.0 pics of my characters, and my thoughts comparing them.
First up is Luki, and her eyes pop like crazy! They feel like the most details thing about her and that's... well, they're nice to look at, but they don't feel like they fit the rest of her. I think it's less the eyes themselves as much as the skin texture... it's weird and... flat? I can't decide if she looks caked in foundation or like she's made of rubber.
I've notied that the quality of most viera ears' textures don't match the hairs at all. It's really jarring.
The freckles are even harder to see too. And I much prefer the shape of her eyes in 6.0.
Next up is Lokin, who's ears suffer the same problem as Luki's, but overall I'm really happy with his look. He's even more handsome than before!
His eyes also look like they belong to him (unlike Luki's).
Now let's move on to my old main, Kikilu. Somehow, she's looks even more adorable! I really can't complain about anything specifically regarding her.
Alright, on to Kitani, who also looks great! I prefer the shade of 6.0 hair, but hopefully that's something I can tweak. It seems a lot of the hair colours have changed a little.
The only other things are that their fangs are nowhere near as prominent as they were before, and the clan markings seems to have faded too.
I've also just noticed that her eyebrow colour doesn't match her hair. Hmm. Let's hope they fix that, or give us options to pick eyebrow colour seperately.
On to Chisaki, who really does look different. Um, I'm loving her eyes and eyebrows, but there's something really off about her lip shape. I don't hate her look at all though.

Overall, everyone's faces have varying degrees of an artifical look to them now, and all the colours seem duller to me (note that all the above screenshots were taken as SquareEnix intends you to see them - without external shaders).
I'm probably one of the few that, while I hugely welcome graphical updates, thinks they should have kept the character features looking as much the same as possible. And that seems to have happened with some, but not with others. Midlanders, both male and female, seem to have really gone through some unsolicited cosmetic surgery, while the majority of the others escaped with a few unavoidable tweaks.
I really hope everyone offers their feedback, positive or negative, to the devs (in a decent manner). And I hope that, by the graphical update's implementation, we all feel happy with our characters. They're so important to us and our enjoyment of the game.
(Yes, I've tried with different levels (including 0) of gamma correction.)
