September 2019. The Sisterhood is REAL. The decision to return to her natural hair stemmed from the desire to restore her hair's health and strength. It has been an interesting journey. The Big Chop was an impulsive act of rebellion; it was also the most liberating thing she'd ever done. Embracing her hair in it's original, created state has enabled her to appreciate who she is. June 2019. Greenville High & TL Weston Class of 1987. Oops they did it again. 50th Birthday Celebration #classof87turns50 That weekend was one for the books. Spring 1996. Carrie Stern Elementary. Under the leadership of the late, great, Mrs. Kaye Ventura. She was a Teacher's Assistant, working under Mrs. Joy Long. That was some year. She was a new mommy, and had scrambled to find a new job, as her old one had let her go after 2 years of good service. Oh well. She dusted herself off and kept it moving. Being in the classroom was a challenge, but she made it through the year. She met some amazing educators during that year. And she met some wonderful kids who have grown up to be amazing adults. Say... Notice anything interesting about her? No? Okay. We'll get to that in a minute. She's 25 years old here. By this time she was on her own. In her own spot, making her own way. Some days were harder than others. She didn't have the benefit of Mom's wisdom and guidance; she had passed away 5 years prior. So she was winging it. Getting by. Stress got to her; she developed an ulcer. She didn't let that stop her. She pressed forward, doing what she had to do. Walking to work at Stein Mart from Inez Street.
