sorry to bother, but I've got a question that's been bugging me for a little while. In chapter one of Anthony C. Yu Translation, it states the monkey kings birth rock as an 'immortal stone' then goes on to describe its size. how could a stone be immortal, or is a just a way to say it was favored by the heavens?

I'm not sure, but I've always considered it to be a kind of "scholar's rock" (gongshi, 供石), a category of gnarled, pitted stones that develop in nature. They are often seen in Chinese gardens. The rocks were historically viewed as stand-ins for qi (氣)-filled mountains far away from the cities and towns where scholar-cultivators lived. I wrote the following in an old college research paper:

It’s important to point out that the very first reference to Chinese gardens appears in the Book of Changes. The aforementioned material also states that “Grace [can be found] in the hills and gardens” (賁于丘園). Here, gardens are associated with the wilderness and not a plot in a private residence. The first unambiguous mention of gardens comes from the Songs of Chu (楚辭, Chu Ci, 4th-c. BCE), an anthology of poetry written during the latter part of the Zhou Dynasty. One famous verse known as “Summoning the Soul” (招魂, Zhao Hun) describes how a shaman (巫, Wu) struggles to entice the meandering spirit of an ailing king to return by reminding him of the beautiful women waiting for him “in your garden pavilion, by the long bed curtains”.[7] Such imperial gardens took on a new significance during the following Qin (221–206 BCE) and Han dynasties (206 BCE–220 CE) as certain emperors became obsessed with Daoist immortality and built microcosms of landscapes—rocks for mountains, ponds for rivers, and trees and plants for forests—within their palaces. The hope was to entice lofty immortals to settle there and teach them their secrets of longevity. The first private pleasure gardens arose during the Han. There were two kinds, the extravagant park owned by the wealthy and the simple scholar’s retreat. The former was based on the great imperial hunting parks that served as a symbol for the emperor’s power since such spaces were stocked with exotic plants and animals gifted by conquered territories. Thus, the extravagant nature of these gardens served to broadcast the wealth and power of their owners. On the contrary, the latter were most likely born from privately owned vegetable gardens. The Book of Odes (詩經, 11th–7th-c. BCE), the oldest known collection of Chinese poetry, suggests that scholars during the Zhou dynasty already viewed their simple food gardens as relaxing places of leisure. The idea of a garden serving as a proxy for a mountain retreat was made popular by Tao Qian (陶潛, 365–427), a poet of the Six Dynasties period (220–589). His philosophy is best exemplified by poem number five of his “Twenty Poems After Drinking Wine” series: I built my hut beside a traveled road Yet hear no noise of passing carts and horses. You would like to know how it is done? With the mind detached, one’s place becomes remote. Picking chrysanthemums by the eastern hedge I catch sight of the distant southern hills: The mountain air is lovely as the sun sets And flocks of flying birds return together. In these things is a fundamental truth I would like to tell, but lack the words. Here, shear concentration of will transports an individual to the mountains far away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. This implies that any setting can be one’s own personal Eden, even a garden.

ok so there’s stuff in my brain again. thoughts

basically i have this group of 7 ocs that i originally made during my dra phase and haven’t touched in years, but ive been thinking about them a lot recently and ive started to feel like revamping their characters, giving them a good old redesign, and rewriting them and their story.

ofc im gonna remake them so they’re less. yknow, really terribly written. but when i say i wanna rewrite their story i mean i wanna turn it into a fic, instead of just remaking them and leaving them alone and rotting again.

im gonna ramble more under the cut, but that’s the basics of what’s happening in my brain rn

(cw for mentions of cults, human experimentation, death/murder, and implied abuse)

anyway, these guys are pretty old characters — i made the first two of them when i was like 11 — and so of course, they are. Not Good. and its gonna take a solid amount of work to actually fix them up and make them decent. but i really want to.

lemme introduce their dumbasses real quick:

first of all, we’ve got jay! real creative name, i know (/sarcasm). they’re 16, agender, intersex, and bisexual, using they/them pronouns, and they’re a human experiment. they were abandoned when they were 6 by their (super religious) parents who thought they were a fucking demon, and they got picked up by some cultists that claimed to work for an orphanage. spoiler alert, they did not work for an orphanage, and those fuckers grabbed jay, dragged them to a facility, and experimented on them for the next 10 years. those experiments turned them into a shapeshifter. dont ask me how because i dont know. they’ve also got several very badly written mental illnesses, as is the usual with creepypasta ocs. oh yeah they were a creepypasta oc btw

then there’s jay’s gf, willow. she’s 17, cis, pan, and ace, using she/her pronouns, and she’s just a normal human girl with no special abilities. but she does have a shitty dad and a dead mother. she and jay kill her dad after a bunch of Wild Shit. violent revenge, yay!

aaand cora. she’s 17, cis, bisexual (i think, i cant find her info anywhere), and uses she/her. she’s jay’s identical twin, and also a normal human, but she has psychokinesis. like she can move stuff with her brain. cool

next on the list is sigasi. she’s 21, cis, and aroace, using she/her pronouns, and she’s also a human experiment. jay sees her as an older sister, but they’re not actually related. she’s not a shapeshifter like them, but she’s got weird void claw hands and some fucked up wings that don’t work.

and then oh dear god, delta sun. he’s 26 (i think), cis, neptunic, demiromantic, and asexual, using he/him pronouns, and he’s in the same boat as jay and sigasi. instead of being kidnapped, though, he was given to the cultists by his mother (who thought he was a demon) and was raised in the experimentation facility. also, he’s half angel. his dad is an angel while his mom is a (super religious) human.

and SPEAKING of delta’s mom, it’s hope! she’s technically in her 50s but she died at 27, cishet and uses she/her pronouns. she’s essentially just hara before hara, but she is SO MUCH MORE INSANE. LITERALLY. she’s super religious and superstitious, she’s scared of everything, she’s been gaslit and indoctrinated into the same cult that the human experimenting fuckwads are in, she’s dead, she’s fucking crazy, she’s so badly written. i love her.

and as for delta’s dad, that would be ea. he’s 427, completely genderless, and doesn’t label his sexuality. uses all pronouns because fuck it, and they’re a somewhat biblically accurate angel. i dont have much info on him unfortunately, and what i do have written down is unimportant.

as you can see, three of them are human experiments. this is because i had a phase where i was obsessed with human experimentation. i thought it was so fucking cool.

anyway! the lore behind these bastards is super complex and ive been hyperfixating on that for a few days. i dragged some old shit out of the abyss to actually remember stuff about them, and uh. god theyre so badly written it hurts me.

When Giants Ruled The Land.

"Saloon" racing in the UK took a decidedly American turn in 1963 when 427 ci Ford Galaxies showed up, and showed up the Jaguars, and other British Marques, in a show of brute force. These images are of various Goodwood events that celebrate racing in general. Interestingly while the Galaxies clearly had aluminum bumpers, and one has to assume aluminum fenders, they sport complete Galaxie 500 (XL?) trim. If you Google Goodwood Galaxie you'll be able to see these beats in action. The white Galaxie even sports marine navigation lights on the roof, to denote the barge like qualities of the car.

“The World Began Anew” (Stanley and the Narrator Have Feelings Pt. 3)

Warning/Notice: So cheesy, shorter, and it’s a slow burn ahead <3

The world began anew.

Stanley winced slightly. He had been taking a nap after falling asleep to the narrator’s calming whispers. He knew the narrator had his tapes, he knew he didn’t always forget, but he also knew that the narrator didn’t always remember and Stanley wasn’t sure the tapes would either. Should he keep hope? Would not having it hurt less?

His mind quieted once he realized the narrator was not speaking. Perhaps he remembered and skipped his intro! Or maybe Stanley had spaced out for so long that he had already finished. Or maybe-

“I remember.”

Stanley looked up at the ceiling, letting the hope seep into him.

“Stanley, I remember!” the Narrator shouted joyfully, laughing in relief, “I remember your dog and my body and our conversations and our past! I remember it all!”

Stanley jumped for joy while crying happily, “You remembered!”

As their laughter and excitement died down into a calm, yet giddy feeling, Stanley and the Narrator (indirectly) looked at each very fondly.

“Oh, I almost forgot about my body, dear boy! Let’s go fetch it so we can look at each other as I keep remembering!”

It was a very quick process with the help of the adventure line. Both Stanley and the Narrator felt at home as the Narrator drifted into his comfortable metal and embraced Stanley once again. The adventure line curled around both of them, and they stayed like for a nice while.

“This is lovely, my dear fellows, but if you would not mind, I’d like to have some more adventures!”

Stanley nodded and cheered, “Let’s go!”

Stanley and The Narrator Have Feelings

WARNING: Very cheesy, I was just having fun with it so yeah

This is the story of a man named Stanley. Stanley worked for a company in a big building where he was employee #427. Employee #427's job was simple: he sat at his desk in room 427 and he pushed buttons on a keyboard. Orders came to him through a monitor on his desk, telling him what buttons to push, how long to push them, and in what order. This is what employee 427 did every day of every month of every year, and although others might have considered it soul rending, Stanley relished every moment that the orders came in, as though he had been made exactly for this job. And Stanley was happy. And then one day, something very peculiar happened, something that would forever change Stanley, something he would never quite forget. He had been at his desk for nearly an hour when he realized that not one, single order had arrived on the monitor for him to follow. No one had shown up to give him instructions, call a meeting, or even say hi. Never in all his years at the company had this happened, this complete isolation. Something was very clearly wrong. Shocked, frozen solid, Stanley found himself unable to move for the longest time, but as he came to his wits and regained his senses, he got up from his desk and stepped out of his office. All of his co-workers were gone. What could it mean?

This is what Stanley had thought of around a month ago. He was now fully aware of his situation and in figuring it out, he got to know the Narrator. The Narrator was the one who had given the orders, who had told Stanley exactly what to do, when to do it, and in what order. Stanley didn't always obey, but that kept things interesting, when the Narrator ordered him around that was. Nowadays, Stanley and the Narrator decided on adventures together, as their fondness for each other had grown.

One day, the Narrator told Stanley that he had a surprise for him. "I have a delivery for you today," he said. "From a friend of mine." "The adventure line?" Stanley guessed with a smile. The narrator chuckled, "You've guessed it".

Stanley was led to a giant shipping container, just like the ones on the docks. The container was at least fifteen feet tall and as wide as a house. "Can I open it?" Stanley said excited. "I've never seen it opened!" The Narrator gave in and told Stanley he could open the container.

Stanley looked at the container with wonder. "How do you open it?" he asked. The Narrator laughed, as he had expected the question. "I made you a button," he told Stanley with a grin. Stanley fidgeted excited, awaiting the button.

A platform slid away on the ground and a pedestal rose up to Stanley's abdomen. A red button the size of Stanley's hand shone in the light of the storage room. Stanley looked up at the ceiling, as if waiting the narrator's permission.

"Don't wait up on me, dear boy! Go ahead," the Narrator said. And with that, Stanley gently slammed the button and the container opened. He was surprised to see a pile of boxes stacked at the top, but he was even more surprised when he opened one and saw a robot the size of a refrigerator inside. "He could keep us company!" Stanley exclaimed to the Narrator, "Or maybe you could posses him so we can do a hand shake!" The Narrator agreed and told Stanley to do whatever he wanted, as he always did.

Stanley looked at the robot for a moment and said, "I'll play with him later. For now, I need to find a power switch, or else..."

"Go ahead and move him around," the Narrator said, "I trust your judgement."The narrator would never admit it, but Stanley’s remark about the handshake had him thinking. Wouldn’t it be nice to meet Stanley’s eyes and hold his hands and sit beside him. He spoke up saying, “You can still do whatever you want, Stanley, but I would not be opposed to a handshake.” And once again, Stanley was surprised. "That's not a big deal, is it?"

"Oh no, not at all," the Narrator said. Stanley tried to contain his joy as the narrator possessed the robot. The narrator was much taller than him now, but he was not afraid. "Oh goodness," the narrator joked, "You still have to look up at me even now!" And with that he gave the robot a test run. It didn't move, and he laughed. Stanley pulled him towards him, giggling as well. Stanley thought the narrator’s hands were pleasantly cool and the narrator thought Stanley’s were pleasantly warm. “I like this,” Stanley whispered. The narrator nodded for the first time in his life. Stanley laughed with glee. As the narrator got used to his new body, he was also getting used to Stanley's touch. He needed help sometimes and Stanley was there for him. Despite being of metal, it made him feel warm inside. It's been so long since someone made him feel that way, he thought. He decided to test out a funny habit Stanley had: Pressing buttons.

He pressed the big red button from earlier. It gave him a type serotonin he never knew existed. He spammed the button saying, "I now understand why you like this, Stanley" he said. But then he pause, sulking a little bit. He apologized, "I'm sorry I made fun of you, Stanley."

Stanley looked up at him and his eyes appeared to soften. "I know," he said, "It wasn't very nice, was it?"

"It's quite all right," Stanley said, "It's good to have someone who can get a laugh out of me." The two of them laughed for a bit, until the narrator realized something. He blushed as he asked, "Can I give you a hug, Stanley?"

Stanley gave a shy little laugh, and the two of them embraced. The narrator felt his cheeks warm up. He was never this emotional, he thought. He pulled away and said, "Dear boy, I think I need to sit down. Too many feelings."

Stanley nodded in understanding, holding out his hand for the narrator to take. The narrator took it gently as they headed to the employee's lounge. The building had been empty for many years, but the couches were still comfortable, and the Narrator enjoyed the feeling of being able to sit.

Stanley sat down as well and hummed, content to simply be in the narrator's presence. The narrator felt nice, too. "I feel like something changed today, Stanley. I think I feel at home here," he said. Stanley thought about this for a moment and said, "Me too. It's kind of nice not having to talk to you through a ceiling." The narrator's lips turned up a bit at that and he reached over and took Stanley's hand. They sat like this for a few minutes, hand in hand.

"I want to tell you something, Stanley," the narrator said. He looked at Stanley's hand in his own and continued, "I really like you, dear boy. I'm glad I met you." The narrator continued to hold Stanley's hand, and a few tears rolled down his cheeks. "It is very nice to be able to like someone again." Stanley could do little other than smile at this. He let go of the narrator's hand for a minute and went to sit next to his dear friend, wiping the tears from the Narrator's eyes. Stanley rested his head on the Narrator's shoulder and hugged the narrator tightly. The narrator wrapped an arm around him as well and the two of them sat that way for a long time.

After a few minutes of silence, the Narrator said, "I would like nothing more than to stay with you, Stanley, forever."

Stanley chuckled lightly and nodded in understanding. "Me too." The narrator went quiet before mumbling shyly, "Stanley, you make me feel things. Good things but goodness, is it strange." Stanley laughed at that. "I've never had that happen before. It's nice." The narrator smiled at that.

"You make me feel things too, you know," Stanley said. "How would you describe how I make you feel?" The narrator asked. Stanley blushes and stuttered, "Well, humans call it love, it's kind of warm and it makes your heart beat fast but it's really nice and you don't have to feel the same and I know it's-" "I feel the same way" the narrator said calmly. Stanley stopped rambling only to turn as red as a strawberry. He was so embarrassed. He said, "We shouldn't be talking like this." He didn't know if making the Narrator feel this way was right. "And yet we do," the narrator said, meeting Stanley's eyes. Stanley held the narrator's face in his hands and hesitantly questioned, "Can I kiss you?"

"Whatever you want," the narrator replied, leaning in closer.

Stanley kissed the Narrator. It felt nice and right, and he didn't want to stop. So he didn't. They kissed, and it just kept getting better. As their lips parted, they smiled at each other. The Narrator placed a hand on Stanley's chest, leaning towards him, and the two of them continued to hold one another, softly kissing. As they parted, Stanley tackled the Narrator over and his companion groaned. "You're ridiculous. We were having a moment, Stanley," he scoffed with no malice. Stanley said nothing as he curled up next to the narrator, half lying on him like a pillow. "Your back's gonna hurt later, Stanley." "I know," Stanley said softly, "but I just want to be with you." The narrator held him in his arms. "Fair enough. I certainly don’t dislike this."

Prosegue con grande successo di pubblico la XV Edizione del Premio Internazionale intitolato al Teatro Nudo di Teresa Pomodoro. Tutto questo allo Spazio Teatro No'hma di Milano

Dopo il tutto esaurito per i cinque spettacoli che hanno visto in scena artisti provenienti da Argentina, Danimarca, Venezuela, Slovenia e Francia, per il sesto appuntamento della stagione 2023/ 2024 arriva allo Spazio Teatro No'hma la compagnia Ima Collab proveniente da Hong Kong, Cina.

Lo spettacolo si intitola Candide ed è una rivisitazione del celebre Candido, il racconto filosofico e allo stesso tempo romanzo di viaggio e formazione scritto dal filosofo, drammaturgo, romanziere e poeta francese Voltaire nel 1759; quel Candido, giovane ingenuo che crede alle parole del suo precettore Pangloss, il quale sostiene che tutto va "nel migliore dei modi possibili nel migliore dei mondi possibili".

Adattato e creato dalla compagnia Ima Collab con il pluripremiato regista Chan Chu-hei – che allo Spazio Tearo No'hma ha gia diretto l'applaudito Lu-Ting. Il tritone nel 2021 - Candide è caratterizzato da personaggi stravaganti, narrazioni poetiche, danze, canti e musica dal vivo.

Lo spettacolo si ispira anche a una antica poesia cinese intitolata "Ritorno ai campi", scritta da Tao Yuanming (346-427 d.c.) considerato l'iniziatore della lirica di paesaggio.

Candide è stato presentato in anteprima al Festival Fringe di Edimburgo 2023 ed è stato premiato con il secondo posto all'Asian Arts Awars per la migliore regia.

La compagnia Ima Collab è stata fondata nel 2022 da Chan Chu-hei. E' in realtà una sorta di piattaforma artistica che letteralmente significa "creazione di immagini". Il suo obiettivo è la formazione di una nuova generazione di artisti attraverso la collaborazione tra i "veterani" e gli aspiranti professionisti del teatro.

Ima Collab ha debuttato con "Théâtre sans animaux" (Ribes) al French May Arts Festival 2022.

"Ci ha colpito la rivisitazione originale, divertente e allo stesso tempo poetica di un classico della letteratura e del teatro. Questo adattamento offre al pubblico una analisi fantasiosa e stimolante della condizione umana proponendo così una insolita opportunità di riflessione sui tempi in cui viviamo" – spiega Livia Pomodoro, Presidente dello Spazio Teatro No'hma Teresa Pomodoro.

La Philosophie

La philosophie, du grec ancien φιλοσοφία / philosophía (composé de φιλέω / philéô, « aimer », et de σοφία / sophía, « sagesse, savoir »), signifiant littéralement « amour du savoir » et communément « amour de la sagesse », est une démarche qui vise à une compréhension du monde et de la vie par une réflexion rationnelle et critique. C'est une recherche de la vérité qui est guidée par un questionnement sur le monde, la connaissance et l'existence humaine. Elle existe depuis l'Antiquité en Occident et en Orient, à travers la figure du philosophe, non seulement en tant qu'activité rationnelle mais aussi comme mode de vie. L'histoire de la philosophie permet d'appréhender son évolution.

Ancrée dès ses origines dans le débat d'idées partagées lors du dialogue entre un maître et ses disciples dans les différentes écoles philosophiques, la philosophie peut se concevoir comme une activité de création, de méditation, de définition et d'analyse de concepts tels que le bien, le mal, la beauté, la justice. Elle peut aussi être envisagée comme une quête de vérité, de liberté, de sens, de conscience, bref, une quête du bonheur. Du point de vue de la théologie chrétienne à qui elle est associée dans sa démarche, son objectif devrait être tourné vers la contemplation de la vérité et la recherche de la finalité dernière et du sens de la vie.

Chez Aristote, la sagesse est la science des premiers principes et des premières causes. C'est une définition sur laquelle s’appuieront les aristotéliciens à l'époque médiévale pour fonder la philosophie première.

Au sens moderne et pour une partie des philosophes contemporains, la philosophie n’est pas un savoir, ni un ensemble de connaissances, mais une démarche de réflexion sur les savoirs à disposition. Elle est devenue une discipline des sciences humaines. En ce sens, la philosophie contemporaine se rapproche beaucoup d’une dynamique épistémologique.

Le champ d'étude de la philosophie peut embrasser un ensemble de disciplines telles que les sciences humaines et sociales, les sciences formelles et les sciences naturelles, auxquelles elle est historiquement liée.

La philosophie a engendré des domaines d'études fondamentaux tels la logique, l'éthique (philosophie morale), la métaphysique, et l'épistémologie (philosophie des sciences et théorie de la connaissance). Au cours du temps, ces branches de la philosophie ont vu naître des ramifications comme celles de la philosophie politique, la philosophie du droit, l'esthétique (philosophie de l'art), l’ontologie, la philosophie de l'esprit, l’anthropologie philosophique, ou la philosophie du langage, entre autres.

Socrate

philosophe grec du ve siècle av. J.-C. (né vers -470/469, mort en -399). Il est connu comme l’un des créateurs de la philosophie morale. Socrate n’a laissé aucun écrit, sa pensée et sa réputation se sont transmises par des témoignages indirects. Ses disciples, Platon et Xénophon, ont notablement œuvré à maintenir l'image de leur maître, qui est mis en scène dans leurs œuvres respectives.

Platon

né en 428 / 427 av. J.-C. et mort en 348 / 347 av. J.-C. à Athènes, est un philosophe antique de la Grèce classique, contemporain de la démocratie athénienne et des sophistes qu'il critiqua vigoureusement. Il reprit le travail philosophique de certains de ses prédécesseurs, notamment Socrate dont il fut l'élève, ainsi que Parménide, Héraclite et Pythagore, afin d'élaborer sa propre pensée. Celle-ci explore la plupart des champs importants, c'est-à-dire la métaphysique, l'éthique, l'esthétique et la politique.

Son œuvre, composée presque exclusivement de dialogues, produit les premières formulations classiques des problèmes majeurs de l'histoire de la philosophie occidentale2. Chaque dialogue de Platon est l'occasion d'interroger un sujet donné, par exemple le beau ou le courage. Il y développe une méthode qu'il appelle dialectique ou maïeutique. Il voua la majeure partie de son activité à la philosophie première, mais il se consacra aussi aux apparences et aborda l'histoire naturelle dans laquelle il voulut établir deux principes :

l'un subissant, comme la matière, appelé récepteur universel ;l'autre agissant, comme une cause, qu'il rattache à la puissance du dieu et du Bien.

Platon développe une réflexion sur les Idées communément appelée théorie des Formes ou théorie des Idées dans laquelle la réalité sensible est considérée comme un ensemble d'objets participant de leurs modèles immuables. La Forme suprême est le principe du Bien, englobant les archétypes du Juste, du Bon et du Beau. La philosophie politique de Platon considère que la Cité juste doit être construite selon le modèle du Bien en soi. Dans le dialogue "La République" Il développe en conséquence l'idée du Philosophe roi.

Aristote

(384-322 av. J.-C.) est un philosophe et polymathe grec de l'Antiquité. Il est avec Platon, dont il a été le disciple à l'Académie, l'un des penseurs les plus influents que le monde occidental ait connu. Il est aussi l'un des rares à avoir abordé presque tous les domaines de connaissance de son temps : biologie, physique, métaphysique, logique, poétique, politique, rhétorique, éthique et de façon ponctuelle l'économie. Chez Aristote, la philosophie, à l’origine « amour de la sagesse », est comprise dans un sens plus large comme recherche du savoir pour lui-même, interrogation sur le monde et science des sciences.

Archimède de Syracuse (en grec ancien : Ἀρχιμήδης / Arkhimếdês), né à Syracuse vers 287 av. J.-C. et mort en cette même ville en 212 av. J.-C., est un grand scientifique grec de Sicile (Grande-Grèce) de l'Antiquité, physicien, astronome, mathématicien et ingénieur.
