DAY 9: favorite duet song

Just to make it immediately clear: my obsession level is high (yes, this post is going to be super long, and yes, I apologize in advance for that). I'm not exaggerating when I say that I know every single word of this song by heart. I even made a fanart for this song. Check it out, if you're curious 👉 (link)

I became aware of the existence of this duet far too late, in April 2022, i think??, and in the saddest way possible: through the wiki while searching for only God knows now what kind of other stuff. Of course, considering that Dice and Gentaro are two of my fave characters ever, it was a scandal for me not to have known earlier about the existence of a new duet of theirs, other than Once upon a time in Shibuya, which is iconic in itself, so I went crazy, obviously, and dashed off in search of the song (with very little success, I have to say)... and when I finally found it and it started playing, I almost had a heart attack. What. the actual. hell. was. that.

I expected everything, except something of that sort.

Right from the very first notes, I knew this was gonna be BIG stuff. I mean, VERY BIG.

The vibe it gave me, initially, was something alien, the instrumental intro smelled a lot like the X-files theme song to me (link).

Then Gentaro started, in his usual calm and sexy tone, and I caught the word "satsujin jiken". But so far, let's say, nothing exceptionally new. I knew I should expect some mystery to solve... I mean, the title spoke loud ¯\(ツ)/¯

But poor little naive Anna, soon after the bomb was dropped straight to the center of an indefinite part of my brain.

A serious Dice.

A bloody serious Dice. A Dice that, instead of rapping, was literally speaking (or at least, the initial impression was seriously that). I...I've never heard Dice speaking in such a hard, deadly serious yet sexy, defiant, cocky and confident tone, like... I- ... I didn't even think he could ever speak in such a way!? Like. Dice. HELLO?! Where is my genuine idiotic cute drenched cat gone?! I'm scared?? But at the same time extremely intrigued?? WTF?! Help??!! Let's make one thing clear: when I first heard the song, I obviously had not read the translation yet. So, how shall I explain what I thought ... mhm... the impression was that he was speaking not in a good-guy-trying-to-be-cool sense, absolutely not. His tone was blatantly the tone of a thug. And a particularly dangerous one. The impact of the very first verse of his, "Danna shindanda na, zannen da" was something absurd. I swear. Something of disarming power. And then the tone used in the "tamannee na" immediately afterwards. Guys, I swear to you. I had completely lost my mind. I was totally in love with this new Dice, you have no idea. I was going crazy, I just wanted to know WHY he was talking in that absolutely crazy HOT way. I LOVE how it's clearly perceivable that Dice is speaking with a smirk on his face, that of someone who is sure that he cannot be set up. And I could go on listing word by word all the vocal proclivities that have slowly sent me further and further into the hyperuranium BUT I will refrain from doing so for your sake, because this post would probably become longer than it already is going to be. And then the refrain. Simply BRILLIANT. I mean, it's already not enough that this too, like Stella, is a song set up as a story told by Gentaro, in which he then becomes one of the characters in the plot (you can't tell I have logic behind my preferences, can you?), but a semi-occult code was also inserted?????? Who the hell came up with the idea of putting the spelling of Dice and Gentaro's names at the beginning of each verse of the chorus? WHO? Give a fucking award to the composer, I beg you: (A)Up & down, Rikou na yatsu wo, Sukkari damashite Ganchuu nai Wakattenda Dare na no ka Izure wa Subete wo raizarai;

Yurusan, Meshi toraeru, Nogasanai shi Genkei nai Takara, Rou sezu shite, Umaku moratte Say Good Bye I don't know if i'm making the point clear enough, here.

And then the whole Uh!(Ah!)Uh!Uh!(Ah!) thing. Gentaro firing off his "Ichi wa ichi, zero wa zero, hachi wa hachi" with that studied air of his who knows he has the other guy completely on the hook. And the way you can perfectly sense that the mood of the conversation is starting to turn against Dice, when he throws out that "Nani?!" and then that "Kuso!" so particularly intense (KYAAAAAHHH (⁄ ⁄>⁄ ▽ ⁄<⁄ ⁄)).

OH, and I can't help but mention how the "Hachiji nijuppun" thing practically became a meme between me and @justanotherniky (fixed message in chat at 8:20 p.m.: "HACHIJI NIJUPPUN" when we don't happen to forget about it).

I swear guys, you have no idea how much I lost my mind behind this duet. Because c'mon, I don't know if you guys are realizing, but it's fucking genius. And, last but not least, how not to mention the classic "Uso desu kedo ne~" at the close. Epic.

DAY 4: Favourite Ship

🎤 SAMAICHI

They were my first and they are here to stay. They were the very first characters I was introduced to, and they captured my heart since the start.

I could seriously talk about SamaIchi's dynamic for hours and I have to really try to contain myself!!! Because there are a lot of beautiful and meaningful dynamics in HypMic but they truly do have my heart completely.

The thing about SamaIchi - or, well, how I always interpreted it - is that these two really strong, really tough men that went through so many hardships in life have managed to find the one person that has so much to share and understand with them, because they're so similar to one another, but they also inevitably go head-to-head all the time because of their hardheadedness.

Like, how heartbreaking is it, that in the span of so little time both of them - after already losing their long time best friends - were ripped apart from each other because Chuuoku chose to target the one weakness they both have (their families) that was strong enough to make them doubt each other? How beautiful is it that back at the time of TDD, the only person Samatoki trusted more than Ichiro was Nemu? For both of them, the other was just short of their only family in their list of priorities. And knowing just how much their siblings matter to Samatoki and Ichiro, that just makes my gay little heart weep.

And the thing I ridiculously love about them is the fact that they make each other worse, so much, but they’re also the one person that can make the other better. Because if it gets too much for Ichiro, the only one that can truly relate to him and understand him is Samatoki, and if there is someone that can keep Samatoki’s temper at bay, it’s Ichiro. (and that’s CANON EVERYONE THESE THINGS ARE WHY DOD IS THE BEST MANGA SIDE- gets dragged off stage while clawing at the floor)

And, well, I will have time to rant about this in one of the future days of the challenge, but DO YALL REMEMBER THE DRAMA TRACK "When Six Colours Combine, " " Begins"??? THAT WAS IT FOR ME. THAT DRAMA TRACK BROKE ME. Samaichi in there were just so precious, I literally have that entire 45-minute track memorised. But we'll be talking about it later ;) Just know that I love these silly boys and I could go on for five hundred years but I’m going to spare you lot because unlike me you probably have lives. *chu*

Introduction

Oki Teagan is the third and final member of the Ginza Division rap battle team, Last Judgment. He is known far and wide by his rap moniker, ATLAS. A former rap star that was once part of the rap supergroup known as C H A R O N, it is unknown what became of Oki after the group sadly broke up. The rest of the members moved on with their lives, but he was the only one whose status was unknown. Now, two years after the group's dissolution, he has suddenly appeared out of nowhere and has joined Ginza Division. Many questions abound, with the main one being: what happened to him these past two years?

An imposing man, Oki hasn't changed much in the last two years since he disappeared. He is a man in his early 30s, though he looks to be in his mid-to-late 20s, much like Masa. He is tall and has noticeable muscles on his chest. His hair is brown and goes down to his lower neck, which has a tattoo of a skull on the back of it. His most noticeable feature is the scar on his right eye, which he obtained years ago during a bar brawl. Speaking of his eyes, which previously were black, are now red, signifying that something has changed about him.

For his attire, he wears a black muscle shirt that is hidden underneath his whitish-gray jacket which is almost always zipped up. He has a pair of faded blue jeans that have tears where his knees are, and his pants are fastened with a black belt with a silver belt buckle. He has a pair of brown boots on his feet with a pair of black socks. Lastly, he has a spiked collar around his neck, and a pair of black sunglasses on his face, obscuring his eyes.

Hypnosis Microphone

Oki's Microphone is a microphone on a stand that starts off as black before fading into a dark blue, and finally a gold color near the top. The windscreen on the mic takes the form of planet Earth.

His Speaker takes the form of a bronze statue of Atlas, the Greek Titan in Greek mythology. Instead of the sky that he is usually depicted as holding, he is instead carrying a large speaker on his back.

His rap ability, Strength of the World, allows Oki to increase the strength and power of his attacks at the cost of some of his health and stamina. He can do this continuously, but he loses more health and stamina each time he activates it.

Oki's rap themes, much like during his days in C H A R O N, is fierce and challenging. His music assaults a person's eardrums due to how powerful and angry it is. Much of his themes revolve around building himself up, tearing others down, telling stories from Greek mythology, or something else.

Personality

To say that Oki was a bully and a ruffian would be a complete and gross underestimate. Since his childhood, he has always had a very hard time controlling his temper and emotions, which often got him into trouble. Even as an adult, he still had a penchant for starting fights and getting into trouble. When he was part of C H A R O N, he reveled in the spotlight and the publicity that his role as a rapper gave him, and he didn't hesitate to show it off against those who were less fortunate than him.

Chinami Chinen, one of the lyricists for the group, believed that his personality was a result of Oki's frail psychology, as he often based his self-worth on his and C H A R O N's accomplishments. Whenever C H A R O N was congratulated or complimented, it made Oki proud. However, when the group had setbacks, he became desolate and upset, often blaming the other members of the group rather than realizing that everyone, as a whole, was equally responsible. Also, when giving his opinion about C H A R O N's bad reputation and the malicious rumors on anonymous discussion boards, he reveled in their envy, laughing at them for being weak and mentioning how he frequented those boards just to see how mad they were.

He had no qualms about using his size, stature, and demeanor to get people to do what he wanted. It was for this reason that he was the least popular member of the group, both inside and outside of it. Even though he disliked every member of C H A R O N aside from his best friend, Haru, Haru, himself, often stated that Oki never acted that way when they were both younger.

Despite his friendship with Haru, there were, as stated, some disagreements between the two. One of which was Haru's relationship with Chinami, whom Oki never liked and disapproved of since their initial meeting. Though Chinami helped to push the group to stardom with her lyrics and rhymes, Oki still never approved of her. And after Haru died, his disliking for her turned into hatred, as he blamed her for the death of his best friend, though his death wasn't anyone's fault. His hatred then turned into a vendetta as he blamed her for the ending of C H A R O N, since her departure broke the group up.

After Haru's death and C H A R O N's disbandment, Oki became a shell of himself. Though he tried to keep the group from splintering, he failed to do so. The other members agreed to disband, not only due to the fact that Haru and Chinami, two of their strongest people, had both left, but because his previous actions had made him unlikable to the rest of the group. Afterward, he suffered a severe mental breakdown and began blaming everyone but himself for his own problems.

His personality now, after disappearing for a few years, is relatively the same, though there are some major differences. For one, he is a lot colder and more distant, preferring to keep people at arm's length, including his teammates. And two, aside from his relationship with his grandmother, he cannot recall the previous interactions he had with people in his past, including his teammates. However, there is one thing that remains true to his persona. And that's his hatred for the woman known as Chinami Chinen is still as strong as ever.

Well, there are some but the one who left really good impression on me is this person :

Nozuyama Yukihiro

Nozuyama hasn't appeared in much anime since he's counted as rookie. If you see his profile page, he mostly appear as small characters who didn't really that matter to the story. But then he got casted in Hypnosis Mic and boom! He can rap and it's pretty good for an amateur in rap and a rookie seiyuu! I really love his voice and his character song in Hypnosis Mic (3$even by Dice Arisugawa). Please listen to it if you're looking for swag song!

Happy Birthday Shintaro Asanuma

Happy birthday to the actor, voice actor, narrator, scriptwriter, character song singer, Hypnosis Mic rapper, and director. He debuted at age 30 after being encouraged by a friend since he was not making enough money through theatre alone. Seriously, he worked as a director since 1999 according to Wikipedia. According to some more facts on Tumblr, he puts two cups of coffee in front of his dad’s picture every day, he has an older sister, he’s left-handed, and he’s now 43 years old!

DAY 4: favorite ship

🎤 Hifudo

Once again, I risk talking for hours, especially since this happened and really happens almost every evening after dinner in the company of @justanotherniky during our "philosophical salon".

Also because *start of promo moment* out of our conversations about Hifudo came the writing of a fic that I have the honor of reading immediately following each update (it started almost 2 years ago, but sooner or later it'll be born too), so stay tuned!! *end of promo moment*

So I can't absolutely assure you that I'll be brief.

But let's get started.

I think the Hifudo is one of, if not THE, most canon-not-canon ship I've ever seen, not only in Hypmic, but in my whole life. Because let's start by saying that those two are blatantly acting like a married couple. "Housemates" is just a less outrageous term.

The most beautiful thing about Hifudo is how the trust-based relationship between them is something that's absolutely established and unbreakable, something that stems from their childhood and continues over time, becoming more and more solid as the years go by.

If you think about it for a moment, how powerful must the sentiment that exists between the two of them be to have Doppo never thought, at the ripe old age of 29, of having a relationship with anyone, preferring to stay and share an apartment with Hifumi? Because Hifumi needs him. Because if Doppo left Hifumi behind, Hifumi would slowly break down.

They need each other, because one reaches out where the other cannot: Doppo is strong for Hifumi when Hifumi fails to be strong, while Hifumi is there to support Doppo in the simple acts of everyday life, cheering him on and encouraging him, because he's worth so much more than others would have him believe.

Doppo has always stood up to protect Hifumi, starting with the disaster with Honobono. At that juncture, we could see how strong he's been for Hifumi, more than he's ever been for himself. How pissed off he was for him, more than he's ever been for himself. Doppo would kill Honobono, if only he could. And he would do it solely for Hifumi's sake.

Hifumi, for his part, only breaks down all his barriers when he's with Doppo. With Doppo he doesn't need to be strong. He can cry, he can let go, he can take off that facade of perfection that he's forced to constantly display at work and and in public. He can literally take off his clothes, because he knows that Doppo will never judge him, because he knows that Doppo doesn't need all that to love him and to stay by his side.

And as much as theirs canonically is not (but who knows, fics exist for that too, right?) a carnal relationship, Doppo would never lay a finger on Hifumi unless he himself gave him permission to do so. And this is beautiful and indicative of unparalleled respect.

Doppo and Hifumi do not need words to understand each other. Their relationship transcends explanations but is made up of gestures and glances.

And this is absolutely fantastic.

Little honorable mention to the fact that WHY THE HELL ARE THESE TWO ALWAYS THE ONLY FOOLS (affectionate) who sing together in group songs??? Always and ONLY the two of them. An example? Death Respect. They're the only two idiots who duet the verses. Every. single. time.

Ten made nobiru orera ga Matenro 天までのびる俺らが麻天狼

Jyuto and Rio are there, minding their own fucks, while those two duet.

Because yes, they don't know how to detach themselves even in these situations.

So, last thing and then I'll shut up, I promise: the two colors that canonically make me think of them are dark yellow (#f2b800) and watermelon red (#ff5050)… and when they come together to create a graduated shade (like when I edit the lyrics of the songs), the color of the sky at sunset comes out, which I think to be something that perfectly describes them (see the pics above) :)

DAY 3: favorite song of your favorite division

I apologize in advance, but I'm going to blather a lot about this.

This song is really special to me because it reminds me of a particular time in my life, specifically of a winter ... the one of the lockdown.

I remember that the first time I listened to Stella, the first thing which caught me out of guard was the music and the very peculiar vibe. Both had a strange effect on me, conveying a feeling of immensity as well as being perfectly capable of making me imagine that I was scattered in a galaxy, although at that first listen I had no idea what the song was about, and the title had me more imagining something to do with idols (lol, no).

I can't quite explain this, but I remember that I literally freezed when the piano started playing and a sense of powerful nostalgia immediately hit me hard. Because. Wtf was THAT???? I didn't expected such a vibe??? (gradually my mind started to create a connection with my childhood memories of Dragon Ball GT (LOL)).

And then, the narration started.

I understood little to no Japanese at the time, so I couldn't have even remotely grasped any words that might provide me with a start on the content of the song, but as soon as Dice's rap started, I immediately screamed WOOOOHH??! What is this stuff??? SO COOL, OMG???

And then Gentaro.

There, gentlemen, Gentaro's part was something exceptional to hear for the first time. The atmosphere between his first stanza and the second one is COMPLETELY different and the way he closes with the last verse, "ore mo ubai satte kure MESSAIAAAH〜"

KYAAAHHHHH!!! SO SEXY?!?!? SO FU****G HOT.

Then Ramuda's part, with that mechanical tone and that way of breaking sentences and words that is extraordinarily difficult to follow ...

So here's the chorus ... and that single chord on the word "starlight", with that change in tone that gave me a sense of immensity (???), that kidnapped my heart.

The second part of the song, in which a real dialogue between the members begins, intrigued me even more because there I could pick up on something, actually, and I wanted to understand why the hell DICE had such a serious tone in this damn (affectionate) song. It was so strange, for him!!!

In conclusion, at the end of listening, I pounced to look for a translation.

And my world changed.

I came to know that this song was plotted as a Gentaro's story (and that alone, to me, is simply brilliant) about a bandit, a king and a scientist whose respective planets are in ruins, for one reason or another. But they all find themselves gazing at the same falling star and thus begins a journey through the galaxy, which will see member after member recruited on this journey, tearing each of them out of their ruined reality...Until the scientist, the hardest to convince. But the words and support of the other two will be able to bring him, too, out of the dark into the light...and make him too take part in that wonderful journey.

We can understand this as a metaphor for the Fling Posse and the relationship that subsists between them:

The shooting star represents them as a group, their union;

The journey could represent the inner discovery that the three of them are taking together, to get to know each other better and trust each other, to the point of creating a true and indissoluble bond;

The scientist, who doesn't trust others and sees no meaning into joining them, is clearly the Ramuda of the past who, thanks to Gentaro and Dice, gradually learns to want to live and to truly trust his companions;

Also, funny to see how the role of the king was assigned to Dice, considering that he's the son of the governor, in the Hypmic universe.

Well. Wow.

Wonderful.

My heart is yours, Fling Posse.

So, Stella was THE song by Fling Posse that made me reach the concrete certainty that they, from that moment on, would have to be my favorite division, without any doubt. It's a song that had a very special effect on me from the very first listen. I can't quite describe what it feels like, as I hear it. It may also be the fact that I particularly love anything that has to do with the universe and galaxies, so I would say that the vibe described is perfect for me lol.

It's a song that I can't skip when it starts playing and it gets me every time. It's not for nothing that my level of obsession is such that I made a journal spread (link) and a mini MV (link).

DAY 29: a song of which you know all the lyrics by heart

Never in my life, once I met HypMic, did I think that one day I would know the lyrics of this song by heart. Yet it did happen. All because this was the song through which I got @justanotherniky into this project and into the Samaichi, consequently I had no escape. It all started with me playing Ichiro and Niky Samatoki. Until this got slightly out of hand…and we started rapping it in the kitchen…then on the street…then in the supermarket while we were shopping. Well, this little shenanigans cost us at least a good month of freaking out because of 問題！and まだまだまだ! and ロウリュ！ Not to mention that I also infected my two little cousins….and by extension my poor aunt as well. In short, I was almost literally forced by circumstances to memorize this nonsense. And this is the story of why every now and then Anna comes up with "Ichiro to Samatoki, nausa de zuiqu…"

DAY 16: favorite stage actor

🎤 Akira Takano (高野洸)

Hear me out. There is no actor in the world better suited for the role assigned to him than this man. I mean, look at him! He's the reincarnation of Ichiro! A to Z!!!

It's almost scary how much Takano has in common with Ichiro... Starting from the mole under the eye (wrong eye, but that's irrelevant) to the date of birth (july 22 vs july 26). And he is an older brother, too! But it's not just physical. He is really talented! His rap skills are no joke. He's SO MUCH Ichiro that i feel so bad he's not gonna play him anymore. By now I was inextricably associating his face with Ichiro's :')

DAY 25: favorite A.R.B. au

🎤 Quest 2

Really tough fight between Quest 1 (Gentaro and Dice!!!!!!!!), Quest 2 and High School Hypnotic Microphone (yes, I'm still stuck on this fic)…but then I absolutely couldn't not talk about Ichiro with long hair, Samatoki with the braid, Jakurai with the monocle, fairy Ramuda, ninja Kuko and … whatever Sasara is. LOOK AT THEM. Ichiro with long hair is one of the most heavenly visions I've ever had, he almost looks like he's cosplaying Kenshin…whereas, Samatoki dressed like that? The bandit/swordsman figure suits him PARTICULARLY well (maybe I'd worry). Ramuda comments for himself…. But Jakurai. Jakurai with his long flowing hair (#Pantene), neatly braided, wearing a monocle and holding a wizard's book…rejuvenated by at least 15 years. I can't possibly make it. Kuko dressed as a Ninja looks great, for some strange reason it seems like a very fitting role for him (leaving aside how cool the outfit itself is)…while Sasara is always beautiful (although the staff vaguely reminiscent of the Plague mask unsettles me a bit, I confess).

DAY 5: favorite manga side

Pretty obvious choice, considering that it encapsulates my two favorite divisions, for different reasons (oh my god....I just realized that Matenrou would really be my second favorite division???).

Let's start by saying that the graphic style is simply EXCEPTIONAL and I think it's the one that's most faithful to Kazui's (the original character designer of the project) style, if we exclude BAT/DH. The way Shiro Kiko-san draws the characters blows my mind because, besides rendering them in an extremely faithful but, at the same time, personal way, he manages to bring out every single character nuance that characterizes each one of them, no one excluded!!! I die every time a wild Jyushi appears, he's perfect!?!! Guys, the way he draws Ramuda's smile or Doppo's smile simply melts my soul into a thousand drops ;^; And let's not forget about Nyantaro and Dice in his underwear (although this should not be news) or smoking. Every single cover of each volume is beautiful, it makes it impossible for me to choose between the regular one and the variant ngghhh!

Then, let's talk about the duets. Sir. This side includes two of my favorite duets, the ones that marked my 2022, compulsively running in my head from April to September.

Finally, the most important reason, I daresay: the plot issues. Here the events of the 2nd D.R.B. are portrayed, so BAT and DH are also present... but most importantly, we know more about Dice and Hifumi's background, which is one of the things that intrigues me most in Hypnosis Mic. In this side, we can see how the evolution of the relationship of mutual trust between the Fling Posse comes out, how Ramuda starts to change his mind thanks to Dice and Gentaro, because yes, dammit, his life actually matters and he has the right to live! And, to tie in with yesterday's theme, we can also become more aware of how deep the relationship between Doppo and Hifumi is, rooting itself into the past, growing even more solid now (and yeah, with Jakurai too, okay, you're right...let's include Jakurai just because I'm sorry I got to the end of this post without him being mentioned even once).

DAY 20: a song that remembers you of summertime

I discovered the existence of this song at the end of August 2022 and I've been listening to it incessantly ever since, because it's BEAUTIFUL. It reminds me of summer not only for this reason, but also because during my brisk walks along the coast road it always gave me the right rhythm in my steps, so I automatically associated listening to it with the sea I was looking at during those mornings, before I went home and started studying for an exam I was supposed to take in September. But it's not just the coincidence of hearing it in the summer for the first time, it's just the mood of the song itself that's summery, with that whole "Ahhhh ~Yotte rasshai~ Mite rasshai~" thing that makes me want to move my arms in~ a waving~ motion~. And those background whistles, just reminiscent of a natsu matsuri. Also probably to blame is the fact that they yell HOT an unreasonable number of times. However, this song is all about the experience. Musically it's tremendously catchy and Doppo and Hifumi doing battle with each other? With that sexy tone of voice?? Please. Wrap&Rap is iconic for sure, but this one is definitely on another level.

DAY 15: a song that makes you feel cool when you sing it

We're halfway through this challenge!!! °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖° ARGHHHH, the immediate choice would have gone to Murder at the House of Magic. Because, geez. Singing Dice's parts makes me feel sooo cool! But I feel like I've talked enough about it. And I could really quote an infinite number of songs and parts of Ichiro, Dice, Gentaro, Doppo and so on, but I suppose I have to choose just one song, so... ¯\_₍ッ₎_/¯ Let's give these bad boys a chance to shine, too, considering I haven't mentioned MTC so far.

This song slaps so damn hard. I know every.single.word by heart.

The introduction kicks ass alone, with that sort of military-style march/countdown that I think is simply perfect for the badass side of MTC (the other side is the one that evokes Yokohama sunsets, but that's off topic now).

The refrain gets me so much, but the thing that makes me feel extremely cool is playing Samatoki, who starts out in a vaguely bored tone with his usual slogan "Raifu is notto feaa" (translation: Life is not fair), and then gets pissed off toward the end of the verse in such a cool way! AAAARGH.

And then also the point where Jyuto says "Nanda, temee?", with that sort of sarcastic chuckle at the beginning that also makes me feel really cool while playing him.

And also Rio?? Strangely enough? I love that way he says "Ten mo iran KAUNTO"

Not to mention the pressing rhythm with which Samatoki attacks in his second verse. I simply can't refrain from beat my foot on the beat!

DAY 12: a song that makes you feel nostalgic

Between me and Niky @justanotherniky there’s one rule that should NEVER be violated: no talking about SHOWDOWN.

This song has an impressive potential to make people cry with just the first instrumental seconds. It's not for nothing that this is a song I basically never listen to. And this is not because I don't like it, in fact, it's quite the opposite! It's a truly beautiful song, but my brain simply refuses to listen to it. I just can't. I get a lump in my throat every damn time I try. The tricky thing is that the music is in stark contrast to what is expressed in the verses, which are so aggressive instead [brief due quote to the Hifudo x Gendice moment, in which I literally FLYED. Gentaro was particularly...uhm...evocative.]. So it doesn't come immediately to mind that these 9 men are yelling the worst things at each other, rather the first thing I thought of when I first heard it and looked at the MV (another great idea to make people cry, uh?) is that this song imparted a sense of something unquestionably coming to an end. The feeling I get is really that of "oh hey ... this beautiful story is coming to an end for real ... :') " I can't think about it, I mean ... I can't really project myself into the idea that sooner or later this will really happen, that there will be no more updates on Hypmic, that the whole universe created by Chuhoku will crumble and consequently there will be no point in keeping the basic plot alive. In short, the project will reach its conclusion. And I have a feeling that we're already getting a taste of that, recently.

The sound effect at the beginning, when each division shouts its respective name, is beautiful, contributing to this sense of epicness and absolute finality. But the issue, here, is the chorus, the last one, in particular: "I’m expressing my existence, It’s no one elses I’m here to verify the outcome of this battle, this deciding showtime

The voices, the sounds They resonate with this seesaw game-like live

Be it success, be it disappointment It will be affirmed by our progressing lives" It fu**ing kills me. Every time. I always feel a very painful twinge in my chest when it starts, with that sense of magnificence to remind me that it truly is the final battle alkhdglakdjfg :') The MV, on the other hand, also puts its own spin on it. Right from the way it opens, with the three groups running off into the sunset, raising splashes of water and dust, exactly recalling epic scenes from war or greco-roman movies, with these factions running at each other, and then EVERYTHING EXPLODES.

The live version has an even more commanding impact, with the band on the elevated stage and those flames shooting to the beat of the drums into the sky (link). Amazing. ------------------- Ok, now i'm gonna bury myself under the blankes for the next 2 hours to work off the listening of this song I forced myself to do for this post :)
