So I’ve been thinking of my 2pFrance recently and basically came up with a whole ass mental health journey with him.

cw: mentions of PTSD, depression, anxiety, unhealthy dependency, but only brief. I focused more on his healing when brainstorming these headcanons.

- Louis had long struggled with depression, but after ww2 he hit rock bottom with anxiety and PTSD being added on

- Though he tried to return to his duties, the horrors of the last few years made him a husk of who he once was. He couldn’t properly work without being thrown into a flashback or at the very least, his anxiety rising. His bosses start to get fed up and look into sending him to an asylum or something. Oliver convinced them to let Louis come live with him instead of sending him to an asylum.

- Oliver takes some time off to spend time with Louis and distract him. At first it doesn’t work and Louis spends most of his time in bed, but then, one day, when he’s bored and Oliver is busy making them breakfast (even though Louis hasn’t really been eating), he picks up his sketchbook and pencil. He sneaks into the kitchen and begins sketching Oliver

- Though small, after that morning there is improvement. He picks up some old hobbies. His appetite slowly returns. But the memories of the past always come back to haunt him, especially at night when there are less options for distraction. Luckily Oliver is there and will stay up with him for as long as he needs.

- It’s rough sometimes, but they make it work. But Louis, though in a better place, is still struggling and has developed an unhealthy dependence on Oliver. And Louis knows this. On his good days, when he has the mental energy, he starts research into outside support.

- As years go by, psychology and mental health treatment advances and Louis proposes seeking out treatment. At first Oliver is against this. He was sent to an asylum back in the day and was treated terribly, thus, Oliver doesn’t trust treatment. His mind is still in the past and he doesn’t understand that things have changed. They get into an argument and Louis retreats to the guest room for the night

- The next morning things have calmed down, but there is still tension. Louis asks Oliver to at least research modern treatments, but Oliver’s opinion will not sway him from getting the help he needs. “I love you, but…I can’t keep living like this. I can’t go a day without being with you and that’s not healthy.”

- Oliver finally understands and agrees to look into it

- It takes some time for Louis to find a therapist that works for him. It’s hard enough as a human to find a good therapist, but imagine a nation who has seen all the horrors humanity has to offer. It would be hard to find someone able to unpack all that. I could see in both the regular nationverse and 2p nationverse a handful of professionals in the mental health field being trained specifically to work with nations. In that case, Louis would start seeing one of those professionals.

- After starting therapy and finding a good therapist, Louis starts to improve once more. He gets medication, goes to weekly sessions, etc.

- He gets to a place where he starts working again. He’s able to work from home (which is technically Oliver’s home, but he’s basically moved in at this point so…) thanks to computers and his modern bosses being more open to figure out ways he can contribute. Sometimes he feels like he isn't doing enough and it doesn't help that his bosses walk on eggshells around him. They don't want to push him too hard and he feels guilty, but at the same time he's too worried about his own reaction or pushing himself too far since he's in a good place currently. He’s still working those feelings out.

How does Oliver act around francois??

He's very touchy and a little possessive when they're around others, getting passive aggressive towards anyone that gets personal with François. He always tries to keep François in his line of view and will panic internally if he isn't.

Alone together though he's a lot more lax but becomes very affectionate, showering him with compliments and gifts. He becomes the biggest flirt too to the point he makes ever topic a flirting attempt. François never notices any of these behavior and believes that's just how he is; Oliver could flat out kiss him but he would still recognize it as platonic (but he's a gentleman so he would never do that unless he gets consent first).

This man is lovestruck with the Frenchman and is desperate for his attention
