Roma lost the Europa Cup last week, which meant winning the last game of the season was their final chance to advance from Conference to the more elite Europa League. The last regular season game was against Spezia yesterday.
The team fought like hell and the score was tied when Roma was awarded a penalty kick, and Paulo Dybala took the kick in the last minute of regular play. If he got a goal, they would have an almost guaranteed win, and that would get them into Europa League. They would take the last slot, elbowing out Turin's Juventus. Last season, Dybala was playing for Juventus when they declined to renew his contract, the only reason Roma coach Jose Mourinho was able to secure him for Roma this season.
Mourinho wasn't there for this kick, or at least wasn't where he should have been. He was watching from the stands and not the touchline due to a suspension, because he got his fifth red card for swearing at the Europa Cup referee last week. Still #1 in red cards leaguewide. Possibly worldwide this year.
Dybala, who sobbed openly on the field in Turin when he left Juventus and kissed Mourinho's hands after scoring his first two goals for Roma, kicked and scored one more time. It won them the game, and a well-deserved place for the team in the Europa League next season.

Get to know the opponent: Racing Club de Lens (RCL)
Tumblr media
Hi guys !
Today is one PSG's big games of the season, as well as one of Ligue 1's most anticipated games. Paris Saint Germain faces the second ranked of the 2022-2023 season : the Racing Club of Lens (RCL).
What should you know about RCL and the wonderful season they had last year ?
The opponent's ID :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stadium : Stade Bollaert-Dellis (38 223 seats)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Complete name : Racing Club de Lens (RCL)
Nicknamed : Les Sang et Or (the Blood and Gold in reference to the banner's colors) ; Les Artésiens
Founded in : 1906 ; Professional status : 1970
The President : Joseph Oughourlian 🇫🇷
The Coach : Franck Haise 🇫🇷
Main rivals : LOSC Lille
Palmarès (relevant competitions only) :
Ligue 1 champions in 1998
Reached the UCL in 1999, 2003 (eliminated in the groups' phase) and 2023 (to be determined)
Took part of the UEFA Cup (now Europa League or C3) 11 times and their best perfmance was reaching the semi-final in 2000.
When you look at it like this, you would think PSG are the obvious superior team.
But that's without mentioning the incredible season RCL had last year. To make you see what I'm talking about, here's RCL and PSG's performance in the last 5 games of the 2022-2023 season:
Tumblr media
Whereas PSG ended up champions for the 11th time, making them the most prized club in France, their performance wasn't convincing. However, RCL has had a wonderful combative season last year, marked with great intensity. The players to look out for last year were:
Seko Fofana (captain), Brice Samba goalkeeper), Adrien Thomasson (midfielder), Lois Openda (Striker).
This season however, things changed for the Blood and Gold. Making a decision absolutely nobody can give justification to, Seko Fofana has decided to set sail for Saudi Arabia, leaving a team that relied on thier strong headed and charismatic captain right before a UCL. Lois Openda has left for Leipzig and he's been doing great there.
These two losses might explain the way they've begun their season:
Tumblr media
Lucho's thoughts : "Lens hasn't started this season on the right foot, but they're one of the best L1 teams. I like their coach and their way of working, they defend well, they attack well. I think of this game as a UCL game, it's a pivotal match for both teams. [...] We play against a team that is very powerful. We need to be careful in the face of their intense pression, Samba is also a great goalkeeper. There are some great associations between the players. A good association with el nueve who used to be Openda and now Wahi. I really like Franck Haise's work. The keys to this match will be : a lot of tension and good performances."
It's an important game for both teams, let's see how it goes !
Ici c'est Paris !
