A/N: I can’t stop thinking about Satosugu x reader fics.. I want them so bad, need them.. ☹️☹️ I will write the most self-indulgent fics about them. They’re my babies (especially Suguru). Someone get me a bf that looks exactly like Geto Suguru and another like Gojo Satoru!!!!!!!! Pretty sure most of the Geto pics I used are from a Satosugu manga fanfic but I can’t even find the original. (I don’t know a lot about bball, so I’m sosososoososososo sorry if this a bit inaccurate)

NBAstars!satosugu who always immediately look for you after their games. They know you’re always there to watch and support them.
“Princess!” Satoru yelled from across the court as soon as his eyes met yours. He was more than glad to see you. The ball game had just finished, he and Suguru then looked for you in the crowd. Satoru was delighted to be the first to spot you.
Like always, you happily ran to Satoru. He caught you, picked you up, and hugged you tightly. “You’re covered in sweat.” You huffed into the crook of his neck to which Satoru chuckled softly. He loved your little complaints, especially when your arms were wrapped around his neck.
Suguru then spotted the both of you. He walked over then whined with a faux pout. “Darling.. don’t you think it’s unfair that you’re only hugging Satoru?” He said as he gave you a kiss on your cheek.
NBAstar!suguru who always makes sure to receive a kiss from you before their games. It’s his “lucky charm” he says. You don’t want to jinx the game, right?
“Give me a kiss baby..” he whispered low in your ear to which you happily obliged.
NBAstar!satoru who popularized the “this is for you” look before shooting the ball. The camera that broadcasted the game got the perfect angle of you watching him play and him pointing at you before finishing the quarter. Satoru never missed a shot after looking at you.
NBAstar!suguru who likes to blow you a kiss during games. It makes Satoru jealous and pouty when you blow a kiss back. He was the one who shot the ball!
“That’s supposed to be my kiss!” Satoru whined, “You wish.” Suguru mocked.
NBAstars!satosugu who would sometimes model for companies with you. They’d do brands like Onitsuka Tiger, Calbee, Uniqlo, and other brands that you model for. The public love to see you all together and companies love milking that for publicity.
NBAstar!suguru who always makes sure you have a seat, specifically one he can see you in from the court. He wants to be able to see you and blow those kisses whenever he pleased.
NBAstar!satoru who was the one to convince you to move to the states with them. He didn’t want to leave without you but he also couldn’t deny that getting drafted to the states is a big leap in his career. Satoru made sure you were taken care of in the states and he made sure to hire someone to dote on your needs when they couldn’t.
NBAstar!suguru who was the one who helped you get a modeling gig at a large shoe company.
After training, Suguru was approached by a scout from the brand. He was told that they wanted him and Satoru to model for them. Suguru then called you and Satoru over and he said in full confidence, “We won’t do it if she’s not in it too.”
Soon enough, the three of you got more and more calls from businesses. You became more and more popular, especially with clothing brands.
NBAstar!satoru who loves posting you on his instagram. He makes sure you two look like a couple (he specifically loves this, this, this, and this). Satoru loves being touchy with you and he gushes about it when he talks to Suguru. He loves to brag about you.
His favorite picture of the two of you is when you were laying your pretty little head on his bare chest while taking a nap. He was giving you a soft kiss on the top of your head in the picture. It was so cute and your shippers thought so too! 700k likes in just an hour, breaking his notifications.
NBAstar!suguru who doesn’t post you as much but when he does it’s those intimate and sophisticated pictures. You guys in photoshoots, dinner dates, traveling, teasers (another teaser). He doesn’t love sharing his life to millions but he loves showing you off. (Agora Hills much?)
NBAstars!satosugu who overwhelm you with affection that you just can’t choose one or the other. Lucky for you, they sometimes find a way to share.
However, it’s different with the fans. Some of them say if they were in your situation they wouldn’t know who to choose, others would say you’re leading one of them on, and there would be people who just argue about who you should end up with.
At the end of the day, it’s still your choice. But god do they make it hard. You grew up with them both and you learned to love them both. How could you even decide between Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru?!

read your miro/luka edm fic and then proceeded to think about it. deeply. in church. i'm feeling extremely haunted and i would love to know more about how you came up with THAT. my jaw kept dropping further and further until i could unhinge it and swallow my fist whole. at the end my heart was racing j was like ohhhh. i don't even follow the dallas stars. i only barely know luka doncic from his allstars video where he sinks a half court shot and then proceeds to look incredibly in love with the dude trying to hold him back. also from his spanish interviews. have they interacted at all. where did you pull this from. why them out of all the people. follow up question how do i inject this in my veins.
Okay, first of all anon I am in love with you for thinking so deeply about this story. In 2020 I suffered extreme lockdown brain damage and got extremely into European EDM and when I saw that tweet for the first time, it stuck with me. I've been pondering that story since LITERALLY the NHL/NBA bubble playoffs. I could say so much more about it.
Second of all, strap in. I lost my mind reading this ask and blacked out while writing this primer up. I had to write this in google docs bc I was afraid my browser would crash and it's literally 1.3k. I also don’t 100% understand how European basketball leagues work, so some of Luka’s origin story might be wrong or inelegantly phrased. If any European basketball fans want to chime in and correct me, please do.
MIRO AND LUKA: ROOKIE RESPECT, A PRIMER
The year is 2017. The Dallas Stars have the third overall pick in the NHL draft. Miro Heiskanen, a mild-mannered and mature but intense Finnish defensemen, is considered one of the top European prospects and the top European defenseman in the entire draft. He goes 3OA to the Stars, who are beginning to build up what the media goes on to call their Finnish mafia (due to the amount of Finns on team) and also needed a defenseman. Miro signs a three year entry level contract shortly after the draft and is loaned to his home team in Liiga (Finnish hockey league), HIFK, for the season. He is 18 years old.
Meanwhile, Luka Dončić, who has been in the Spanish basketball trenches since he was 13, is tearing Liga ACB (the top basketball division in Spain) and EuroLeague (the top European basketball league) as an eighteen year old with Real Madrid in the 2017-2018 season. He guides Real Madrid to the EuroLeague finals and wins EuroLeague MVP. At the end of the season, he is drafted by the Atlanta Hawks third overall. He is immediately traded to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for draft rights to Trae Young and a future 1rd pick. The Mavs wanted him, but drafted later in the 2018 draft and knew they didn’t have a chance in hell of getting him. So they traded for him. He is, at the time, tall, still a little gangly, and often emotional.
In 2018, Luka and Miro begin their rookie seasons in Dallas. They are both very, very good. Miro and the Stars make the playoffs in Miro’s first season. Luka and the Mavs do not, but Luka smashes the shit out of several rookie scoring records and is voted Rookie of the Year. Miro goes to the NHL All-Star Game in San Jose, the sole representative for the Stars. Luka narrowly misses being selected for the NBA All-Star Game in Charlotte, but finishes second in fan voting after LeBron James. Miro finishes fourth in voting for the Calder in 2018 (the NHL’s rookie of the year award) and they both, of course, make the All-Rookie Teams in their respective leagues.
If the parallel careers in their first gd season do not make you crazy, these tweets, in which they are wearing each other jerseys, will.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Luka showing some love to @/HeiskanenMiro” can you let me live? Please?
Critical to this is that these are not even the jerseys that they swapped. Oh yes: they exchanged jerseys their rookie year. The Stars and the Mavs share an arena and their PR teams are no fools; when your city has two of the top rookies in their leagues, you lean the fuck in. They exchanged jerseys while Miro looks the most awkward he has ever looked in his life and Luka looks like a normal human being. And then their team makes them do photoshoots in entirely different jerseys. Rookie. Respect.
And that’s just their first season! The Stars lose in the second round of the playoffs, but they come tearing back the next season in 2019-2020. The Mavs do too. In their respective league playoff bubbles (NBA in Walt Disney World, Florida, the Stars in Edmonton, Alberta), they both break MORE scoring records as young phenoms. The Mavs ultimately do not make it out of the first round and the Stars lose in their final round, but there’s no doubt that the city has something special.
Meanwhile, COVID. The 2020-2021 NHL season is a fucking nightmare for a lot of teams, particularly the Stars, who got hit with COVID multiple times, and ultimately fail to make the playoffs. I frankly was only watching games during the NBA 2020-2021 season and not following narratives, so I don’t know if the Mavs were dealing with COVID to the extent the Stars were. The Mavs did make the playoffs, but lose again in the first round.
Summer of 2021. Miro is at the end of his ELC in the NHL. Luka is eligible for a rookie extension in the NBA. (I understand NBA contracts even less than I understand NHL contracts, so ask someone else about this details of this.) Both the Mavs and the Stars are prepared to break the fucking bank for these players. Guess what Luka and Miro do.
Miro signs an eight year contract with the Stars in July 2021.
Luka signs a five year contract with the Mavs in August 2021.
BRO THEY’RE SPENDING THE NEXT HALF-DECADE IN THE SAME ARENA. THEY’RE SPENDING THE NEXT HALF-DECADE IN DALLAS TOGETHER. When I say I lost my mind….!!!
In 2021-2022, the Stars come back from their COVID hell season and make the playoffs again, but lose in the first round. The Mavs lose in the Western Conference Finals, but hell, the fact that they made it to the WCF? Crucial. To be honest I was not watching much basketball OR hockey that season, so that whole season for both teams is kind of my lost year. (Well. Lost years for all teams in all leagues. I watched the NHL and NBA playoffs because the Dubs are my hometown team and I love the Avs, and this paid off well for me, but during regular season, I think I watched like three NHL games and two NBA games all season.) I don’t really know how the narrative has developed since then. I don’t know if the parallels in their careers have continued to be crazy-making.
I do know that Luka is having an insane year this season; every time I get notification from theScore, I go, how the fuck…?? And a quick glance at hockey-reference tells me that in 34 games this season, so far Miro has matched last year’s goals and is well on his way to making up the difference in assists. Miro had a rough year last year because he had mono and a hand injury, but he seems well-poised to come back strong this year. I don’t know what Luka is doing, but he is insane.
And I mean, that’s the story so far: parallel careers, parallel stories. Both 3OA, both rookie phenoms, both of them being cornerstone pieces of their franchises going forward into the future while still nascent in their careers, and just very, very good players. It’s early in their careers in the States, we have to remember that, and I am sure things could (and maybe have! Again I have been a little checked out of both sports and particularly both teams the past couple years) continue to develop and evolve in bonkers ways. How long will they stay in Dallas? How long will their careers last? How long will their lives intersect by the simple fact of a city and an arena? It makes me wild to think about. Cross-sports romances are so undervalued in sports rpf fandoms and when the narrative hits just right? Let’s fucking go.
There are exactly two fics on AO3 under their tag, both of them by the Stars RPF GOAT Nadler, and one podfic of Nadler’s work. They are both excellent fics and the podfic is quite good as well. I think about wunderkinder all the time and wish desperately for a follow up, and the PWP is just straight up good shit. And maybe someday I’m going to have a mental breakdown and finish the fake dating/mutual pining fic I started last year with them, but in the meantime, we have their IRL narrative. Fated by sports, love in the face of it all. When the narrative is right? It is so right.
Thank you for coming to my tedtalk!!!!

Kevin Durant is a professional basketball player known for his scoring ability and versatility. As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, he played for the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA.
Tumblr media
Kevin Durant is a professional basketball player born on September 29, 1988, in Washington, D.C. He is widely regarded as one of the best players in the NBA. Durant played college basketball at the University of Texas for one season before declaring for the 2007 NBA Draft.
He was selected as the second overall pick by the Seattle SuperSonics (later relocated to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder). Durant played for the Thunder from 2007 to 2016, earning multiple scoring titles and MVP awards.
In 2016, Durant joined the Golden State Warriors, where he won two NBA championships (2017, 2018) and earned NBA Finals MVP both times. In 2019, Durant signed with the Brooklyn Nets, but he missed the entire 2019-2020 season due to an Achilles injury. He returned to the court in the 2020-2021 season with the Nets.
Durant is known for his scoring ability, versatility, and basketball IQ. He has been selected to numerous NBA All-Star Games and has won various awards throughout his career. Keep in mind that specific statistics and achievements may have changed since my last update in January 2022.

July 20 (UPI) -- Charlotte Hornets star Miles Bridges faces two felony charges of child abuse and another felony count of injuring a child's parent, Los Angeles County district attorney George Gascon has announced.
Gascon said Tuesday that his office filed the felony domestic violence charges. Bridges, 24, was arrested June 29 and released later that day on $130,000 bail. He was arrested on a domestic violence warrant.
According to the criminal complaint, the alleged assault on Bridges' girlfriend "happened in front of their two children on or about June 27 and 28."
"Domestic violence creates physical, mental and emotional trauma that has a lasting impact on survivors," Gascon said in a statement.
"Children who witness family violence are especially vulnerable and the impact on them is immeasurable. Mr. Bridges will be held accountable for his actions and our Bureau of Victim Services will support the survivors through this difficult process."
Bridges' arraignment was scheduled for Wednesday at the airport branch of the Los Angeles County Superior Court. The case is under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department's West Los Angeles branch.
Bridges averaged a career-high 20.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game in 80 starts last season for the Hornets. The No. 12 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft is a restricted free agent who was expected to receive major interest this off-season on the open market.
The Hornets extended a qualifying offer for Bridges before his arrest. A criminal conviction is not required for a player to receive discipline for a violation of the NBA's domestic violence policy, and players can be placed on administrative leave while the league investigates accusations.
"We are aware of the charges that were filed against Miles Bridges," the Charlotte Hornets said in a statement Tuesday. "These are very serious charges that we will continue to monitor. As this is a legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time."

NBA Finals Preview Guide: How Warriors, Celtics built NBA Finals teams after losing Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in free agency
Tumblr media
The Warriors and Celtics have a lot in common — including losing a superstar in free agency to the Nets.
The Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics have quite a bit in common if you can get past the three championship rings currently on the fingers of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and Steve Kerr.
Both teams drafted and developed the biggest stars on their roster. Both teams added one key starter via a trade that was doubted at the time. Both teams hit on late first round draft picks in the 20s to augment their cores with critical young talent. Both teams are used to making deep playoff runs. The Celtics haven’t raised a title banner since 2008, but they do deserve credit for making four trips in the Eastern Conference Finals in the last six seasons.
The Warriors and Celtics have one other big thing in common. Both of them lost a superstar in free agency but still rebounded to reach the NBA Finals.
In the summer of 2019, Kevin Durant left the Warriors and Kyrie Irving left the Celtics to team up together on the Brooklyn Nets. Their departures threatened to close the championship window for both teams. Three seasons later, there’s no doubt Boston got even better without Irving. The Warriors certainly aren’t as dominant as they were at their peak with Durant, but they were still good enough to win the West with relative ease.
Here’s how the Warriors and Celtics survived the loss of a superstar to reach the Finals.
The Warriors didn’t need Kevin Durant to make the NBA Finals
Golden State never needed Durant to win a championship. The Warriors won it all in 2015 behind the Curry-Thompson-Green core that they drafted and developed. The next year they finished with the best regular season record ever at 73-9 overall, but famously lost in the NBA Finals to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games.
Durant signed with the Warriors the following summer when the NBA salary cap experienced a rare spike. The Warriors won consecutive NBA championships in 2017 and 2018, and then lost to the Toronto Raptors in the 2019 Finals after Thompson and Durant each suffered injuries that would keep them out for more than a year. Durant entered free agency shortly after the injury, and confirmed the worst kept secret in sports when he left the Warriors for New York to team with Irving.

How the Warriors used Kevin Durant’s departure to add Andrew Wiggins
Find the full story of why Durant left the Warriors here. The main thing you need to know about the post-KD reboot is that the superstar forward didn’t leave Golden State for nothing.
When Durant agreed to join the Nets, Golden State was able to turn it into a sign-and-trade, with D’Angelo Russell as the main piece coming back. The Warriors had to give Russell a four-year, $117 million deal, include a first round pick in the transaction (that ultimately turned into a second rounder), and salary dump Andre Iguodala to pull it off. There were serious questions about Russell’s fit with the Warriors at the time, as well as extreme skepticism on if he could live up to the money, but the Warriors made the move for one big reason: they wanted to maintain a high salary slot so they could potentially add another big piece to the team via a trade with the existing roster already way over the salary cap.
Russell played 33 games with the Warriors before they found a trade they liked, moving him to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Andrew Wiggins and a 2022 first round pick.
While the pick alone made the deal seem worth it at the time, most people were ready to write off Wiggins. He had a reputation as an inefficient scorer with a hot-and-cold motor who couldn’t live up to his max contract or his former No. 1 overall draft status.
It took some time for Wiggins to get comfortable with a new role in Golden State, but he broke out in a big way this year. He was named an All-Star starter (even if he didn’t deserve it), and has blossomed into a go-to wing stopper during this postseason. The same physical gifts that once made Wiggins a can’t-miss prospect in the draft — his speed, his length, his ridiculous explosiveness as a leaper — have been channeled on the defensive end in a masterful way. Wiggins’ 17.2 points per game is his lowest scoring average since his rookie year in 2015, but it feels like this is the best basketball he’s ever played.
Tumblr media

The Warriors’ 3 lottery picks have been a mixed bag, but they found a young star late in the first round
The year after Durant left in free agency, the Warriors went 15-50 overall as Thompson recovered from his torn ACL and Curry was limited to only five games because of a broken hand. The Warriors drew the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 draft, and selected James Wiseman over LaMelo Ball. Wiseman has not played this season as he recovers from a knee injury, but could still be a big part of the Warriors’ future.
The Warriors went 39-33 in 2020-2021 season but missed the playoffs when they lost to the Memphis Grizzlies in the play-in tournament. That left Golden State with two lottery picks: their own at No. 14, and the Timberwolves’ selection from the Wiggins-Russell swap at No. 7 overall. The Warriors selected Jonathan Kuminga with the seventh pick, and Moses Moody with pick No. 14. Neither rookie made a huge impact this season — save for some solid Moody minutes off the bench in the conference finals — but both project as rotation contributors at minimum moving forward.
The Warriors’ three lottery picks post-Durant have yet to yield a star, but they found one at the end of the draft in 2019 after their Finals loss to the Raptors. The Warriors selected Jordan Poole out of Michigan at No. 28 overall. After developing in the G League and being buried deep on the Golden State bench for his first few years, Poole emerged as an offensive supernova this season. His ability to create his own shot off the bounce has been a major boon for Golden State, giving the team another three-level scorer with a sorely needed injection of speed and explosiveness attacking the basket.
The Warriors also found another gem late in the first round when they selected UCLA big man Kevon Looney with the No. 15 overall pick in 2015. It took Looney a few years to become a contributor, but he’s been incredibly valuable on this postseason run. His screening ability makes him a natural fit on offense with the old championship core. He’s also been the Warriors’ best rebounder, an efficient interior scorer, and a surprisingly switchable defender in this postseason when Golden State has needed him.
Ask the Mavericks about how good Looney is. He felt as important as any player during the Warriors’ win the Western Conference Finals.
Tumblr media
Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports
The Warriors also nailed their minimum free agent signings
The Warriors were way over the salary cap entering free agency in the summer of 2021. The team decided to let go of wing Kelly Oubre, who often lacked the processing speed to be ideal fit for the roster, and then went to work with minimum signings. They picked up three key players on those minimum deals:
Otto Porter Jr.
Andre Iguodala
Nemanja Bjelica
Porter has been a great fit with the Warriors in particular as a 6’10 wing who can space the floor, play help defense, and even create a midrange bucket in the pinch. He’s been a key part of the playoff rotation since the postseason began. Iguodala and Bjelica were also valuable additions at the end of the roster even while the former has been sidelined for the playoffs with injury.
The other big piece the Warriors added on the margins was already on the roster. Golden State was expected to keep Avery Bradley with the 15th and final spot on the roster, but instead opted for Gary Payton II. GPII eventually worked his way into the rotation and then the starting lineup for the playoffs with his tenacious on-ball defense and infusion of athleticism. Payton was injured in the Warriors’ second round series against the Grizzlies, but could return for the Finals. His excellent point of attack defense would be a major factor in this series if he’s healthy.

Why Kyrie Irving left the Boston Celtics
The Celtics were coming off a conference finals appearance in 2017 when they embarked on an offseason that would change the franchise.
The Celtics won the draft lottery with Brooklyn’s pick from the old Kevin Garnett-Paul Pierce trade, but they decided to trade back from No. 1 to No. 3 with the Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers took Washington point guard Markelle Fultz. The Celtics drafted Jayson Tatum.
The next big move the trade for Irving. The Celtics sent out All-Star guard Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, and Brooklyn’s unprotected 2018 pick for Irving, who had become dissatisfied as LeBron James’ sidekick in Cleveland.
The Celtics were damn good in two seasons with Irving, but couldn’t break through to the Finals. In his first year with the team, Irving put up sparkling numbers, but eventually needed knee surgery and missed the playoffs. The young Celtics went to the conference finals without him. The 2019 team couldn’t live up to sky-high preseason expectations, and Irving appeared to be discontented most of the year. He put up terrible numbers as the Celtics lost to the Bucks in the second round. Then he skipped town to join forces with Durant in Brooklyn. Here’s a longer explanation of why Kyrie left Boston.
Irving wasn’t the only major free agent the Celtics lost in 2019. Al Horford also left Boston to sign a big money deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. The Celtics signed Kemba Walker to a $141 million max contract to replace them.

The Celtics were patient with their core of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart
The biggest reason for the Celtics’ success has been their ability to draft, develop, and be patient with their core.
The Celtics have missed the playoffs exactly once in the last 15 years, and the one time they did the franchise selected Marcus Smart with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2014 draft. Smart was never really a traditional point guard, but he carved out a niche as one of the league’s best perimeter defenders while steadily impriving as a shooter. Smart is a three-time First Team All-Defense selection and was named Defensive Player of the year this season.
Jaylen Brown was drafted No. 3 overall in the 2016 draft with the Nets’ pick. Tatum was taken No. 3 overall the following year, again thanks to cashing in the pick that originally belonged to Brooklyn.
Tatum eventually developed into the superstar and primary offensive option. Brown slotted in as the No. 2 option as a big, athletic wing who consistently improved as a three-point shooter. Smart was the lockdown defender, occasional playmaker, and streaky shooter who connected Boston’s other stars.
The Celtics went to the conference finals again in the bubble in 2020 with Walker and Gordon Hayward starring alongside the young core, but they were dropped by the Heat in six games. Last year, the Celtics were steamrolled by Irving and Durant’s Nets as Walker was rendered ineffective with a knee injury. Still, the Tatum-Brown-Smart trio remained, and felt poised for a bright future.

The Celtics rescued Al Horford from OKC and watched him resurrect his career
Horford’s decision to sign in Philadelphia didn’t work out for himself or the team. He was never a natural fit with Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, and ultimately was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Danny Green. The Thunder had no intentions of using Horford to help them win as they continued their rebuild, and ultimately shut him down after only 28 games last season.
The Celtics traded the No. 16 overall pick and Walker to get Horford at the start of the offseason. Few thought Horford could still be a dependable contributor on a contender at age-35, but he’s apparently found the fountain of youth this season. He has been excellent on both ends of the court throughout this run, shooting 43.2 percent from three in the playoffs while providing fantastic defense all over the floor. He feels like Boston’s essential glue guy: the heady veteran who can be a hub on both ends with the versatility to space the floor and defend smaller players.

The Celtics nailed two late first round draft picks
It’s hard to remember now, but Robert Williams was once considered a lottery talent in the 2017 draft before making a surprising decision to return to Texas A&M. His draft stock fell a bit the next year, falling to the No. 27 overall pick where the Celtics were happy to take him.
The Celtics nailed a late first rounder again the next year by taking Grant Williams with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2019 draft. Robert Williams has added a 7’6 wingspan, elite athleticism, and skilled rim protection to the Celtics. Grant Williams has added switchable defense and surprising long range shooting (41 percent form three this year) to the front court, as well.
Those two hits in the draft have been enough to cover up the Celtics making some serious draft blunders. They whiffed on Romeo Langford and Aaron Nesmith with the No. 14 overall pick in 2019 and 2020 respectively. They traded the picks that became Desmond Bane and Matisse Thybulle. Payton Pritchard, drafted No. 26 overall in 2020, has also given the Celtics some deep bench minutes on this playoff run, but it’s tempting to think of how perfectly Bane would have fit with Boston’s core.

The Celtics added two more in-season reinforcements
On Feb. 10, with the Celtics riding a six-game winning streak to dig themselves out of a slow start, Boston made two moves to beef up the rotation for the playoffs. First, they acquired Derrick White from the San Antonio Spurs for Josh Richardson, Romeo Langford, a 2022 first-round draft pick, and a top-1 protected 2028 first-round pick swap. Then the Celtics landed another former player in Daniel Theis from the Houston Rockets in exchange for Dennis Schroder, Bruno Fernando and Enes Freedom.
White’s incredible ability to dart around screens has made the Celtics’ defense even scarier. Theis has added more depth to the front court, and has seen minutes when Robert Williams missed time with a knee injury. Boston was already trending up before the trade deadline, but the moves to bolster their roster in-season were key to this NBA Finals push.
The Warriors and Celtics both made the NBA Finals by sticking to their system
Last season, players like Kelly Oubre and a rookie center in James Wiseman didn’t feel like good fits for the Warriors’ read-and-react offense based around constant ball movement and screening. They were replaced by a players you fit the system better in Kevon Looney, Otto Porter Jr., and Gary Payton II.
The Celtics eventually figured out a system that fit their talent after a slow start under first year head coach Ime Udoka. Boston sat at No. 9 in the Eastern Conference on Feb. 1 but quickly turned things around behind a historically strong defense. The Celtics smothered opponents for the rest of the season with their huge and skilled defensive lineups that switched almost everything while mixing in different coverages at times to keep teams confused.
The Warriors already had a championship-caliber system that orbited around Curry, Green, and Thompson. The found players who could fit it. The Celtics had a success young core with Tatum, Brown, and Smart, and eventually figured out the right scheme and right role players to complement them.
It sure feels like the two best teams in the league are still standing. It’s going to be a great NBA Finals.

I’m considering trying to start a long Nova Knicks fic with flashbacks to their college days (inspired by one of your posts). I definitely want it to be angsty 🫣 and was wondering if you have any angsty plot lines or ideas? I’ve never wrote a fic before so I need all the help I can get 😅
Hello! Thanks for this ask!
When I wrote that post I didn't actually think anyone would get inspired by it, so I admit I didn't really think too hard about it. (That's why I took a couple of days to answer your ask. 😅)
But anyway, I did flesh out a hypothetical timeline in my Scrivener doc, so here it is with potential angsty plot lines/ideas:
On the first day of the 2015 Villanova Wildcats season, Jalen and Donte arrive on scene…Josh and Mikal are already there. Jalen and Donte have to share a dorm room and they get along pretty well really fast (like after preseason ended they were besties fast), but they also bonded over how annoying Josh was.
Most of the drama happens during the 2015-16 season. Jalen already liked Josh (even though Josh literally said he hated him), but Donte had to go through his own journey of acceptance with Josh (despite Jalen trying to convince him that Josh is fine). I'd recommend listening to the Donte guest pod episode. He was also injured during that season, so he spent most of that year in a walking boot, which added to his overall angst (and unhappiness with Josh). I think the Villanova Wildcats won the NCAA tournament title this year (I am not good at understanding college basketball as a Canadian).
In the 2016-17 season Josh and Donte have The Incident (Donte guest pod episode talks about that and also the ESPN article that I linked earlier). There's a lot of room for jealousy here because they're both cool with Jalen but not with each other. They do make their peace eventually but they fail to win the championships. Josh also declares for the draft that year, so he's pretty disappointed that they didn't win back to back NCAA tournament titles.
After Josh heads to the NBA, there is the 2017-18 season where Donte and Jalen win the NCAA tournament together. Josh is gone, which means there's plenty of angst here - Jalen missing Josh, Josh missing Jalen, Donte growing closer to Jalen, Jalen maybe giving Donte a chance because Josh is gone.
Now we get to the weird long period of 2018-2022, where they didn't play with each other. Jalen was on the Mavericks, Donte on the Bucks, and Josh on the Lakers. Donte and Josh moved to different teams during the years, but Jalen stayed on the Mavs most of the time. There are also the off seasons to keep in mind - I imagine there could be a lot of pining flashbacks here, maybe Jalen hangs out with Josh or Donte hangs out with Jalen or Donte and Josh hang out and there's lots of pining here.
Jalen was the first of the Nova boys to get on the Knicks — around July 2022. Josh came second, in February 2023, and Donte third in July 2023.
There is also the bonus summer where Josh and Jalen (and Mikal) were together for six weeks of unpaid basketball on Team USA for the FIBAWC. I don't know if you want to include this, I mean, there are more photos of Josh hanging out with Tyrese Haliburton more than with Jalen, so maybe there's a mini jealousy plot line to be found here...but Jalen and Josh's lockers were beside each other during this period so. I figured I'd include it.
Then finally we get to the Knicks 2023-24 season, present time. They're all playing together again, like they did in back in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons except this time it's different. They're different. They're older and they're spending a lot of time together, which means more angst, are they going to finally get together or not. Plus, Jalen and Josh start the podcast, which means more off-season time together, and an extended play-off run.
Phew, this was...very long. I didn't specify what kind of angst necessarily because I think it depends on what kind of story you want to tell - is it a story about the Nova polycule or just Jalen/Josh (or Josh/Donte or Donte/Jalen)? The Knicks Nova boys are really versatile in which their story can be told in a lot of ways, with many tropes.
I admit I haven't paid detailed attention to them because I like to write various ships and switch back and forth a lot (if I only thought about the Nova Knicks I'd Go Insane). But understanding and talking about writing is something I love, so at least I can help there.
Hopefully this timeline provides you - or other people - some help on writing fics of them. I probably missed some stuff though. There's a lot of Nova Knicks history, like I didn't even mention their tweets about each other... 😭💖

"Salió y no esperó. New Basketball Culture Podcast Debuts “Point Game with John Wall and C.J. Toledano”
Tumblr media
Sports podcasts often have a built-in audience. The fans of that sport or specific team. That said, sports podcasts multiply like rabbits in the audioverse so standing out among the "haystack" of sports podcasts can be a challenge.
According to a recent piece in Podnews, “There is today no sports show among the global top 25 podcasts, despite 20% of podcast listening being in the sports category,” says Simon Strand, the founder of Immaterial, which has announced the launch of a show about the world’s biggest sport and the most interesting characters in it.
Therefore, sports podcasting as a category dominates a quarter of podcast listening, yet that dominance is spread over thousands of sports podcasts.
It helps, of course, when you have a large podcast studio behind like iHeart Media. So, iHeartMedia has teamed up with DraftKings and KLUTCH Sports Group to debut a new basketball podcast “Point Game with John Wall and C.J. Toledano.” The weekly podcast will give an insider’s look at the league and the culture surrounding it. The series will launch on February 21, 2024, and run for 16 weeks, spanning the remainder of the current 2023/2024 basketball season. Every week, John Wall, five-time NBA All-Star and No. 1 pick in the 2010 Draft, will give his unique perspective on the hottest topics in the league and share stories from his own experiences as a player. The show is co-hosted by writer, director, comedian, basketball Twitter personality and founder of Follow Through Studio, C.J. Toledano, who will bring his own takes while discussing the news all basketball fans – and insiders – are talking about. Each episode will also feature current and former basketball legends, as well as A-list comedians who will bring their own views and takes to the mix. “There are a lot of things that I’ve been through in my life that people don’t know - the stories both on and off the court and the connections I’ve made with people along the way,” said Wall. “I just love the game of basketball, and it's given me so much, so I am going to give you the real. I’m excited and grateful for this platform to share more of my journey and my story.”
John Wall is a former NBA point guard. Wall was chosen with the first overall pick of the 2010 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards, and was named 1st team All-Rookie. Wall was a five-time NBA All-Star, from 2014 to 2018, and was named to the All-NBA 3rd team in 2017. He last played in the NBA in 2023 for the Los Angeles Clippers. In 2016, Wall received the Stewart B. McKinney Award for his work to end homelessness after he donated $400,000 to Bright Beginnings. “There’s not much in life that I love more than hanging out and talking basketball, so the fact that I get to do that with one of the game’s most legendary point guards is incredible,” said Toledano. “Also as a fan, I’m sort of tired of the usual talking heads so it’s going to be awesome chopping it up with a superstar who’s actually been in the league very recently. I just hope he doesn’t get annoyed by me asking what the Lakers should do every week.”
C.J. Toledano is a writer, director, comedian, NBA Twitter personality and the founder of Follow Through Studio. Formerly, he was the Creative Director and host for House of Highlights and Bleacher Report. He was also a staff writer for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, ran creative for the Detroit Pistons with Funny or Die and most recently wrote and directed several Nike/Jordan series starring the likes of Giannis Antetonkoumpo, Sabrina Ionescu, Zion Williamson, and Jayson Tatum and the opening night spots for NBA on TNT starring Druski. In episode one, "John and C.J. talk about John's wild 18-hour ride from Raleigh to Chicago that put him on the national basketball map, and ultimately led him to the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft. Plus, John shares his ideas about how to fix the Dunk Contest and All-Star game, who he thinks would win an NBA King of the Court contest, weighs in on the Doc Rivers controversy, where he thinks he could still fit in the NBA, and more."
Listen to the first episode now, HERE.  The Video podcast will also be available weekly on DraftKings YouTube Channel.
Let's see if Point Game can join the exclusive club of the best sports podcasts, such as, ESPN Daily, Hang Up And Listen, and The Right Time With Bomani Jones.
