Lowering the threshold to one vote is so stupid, like if he accidentally cuts in front of someone who already doesn’t like him they can use that to mess with him; 5 was already a ridiculously low threshold. All it’s done is hobbled himself for nothing. If I was him, when I knew like a week beforehand that I didn’t have the votes,

Obviously that wouldn’t have been ideal, but they seem more likely to help than the crazy maga crowd who keep making ridiculous demands and still not voting for him.
The thing is, you guys all keep suggesting ordinary and sensible things that an actual politician, actually interested in actually governing, would actually do, and literally none of that applies to the 2023 Republicans. They have pushed themselves so far right that even being insufficiently, openly treasonous is now cause for being labelled that kiss-of-death RINO. McCarthy can't cut a deal with Democrats in any circumstances when he already is being targeted by the Terrorist Caucus for "not being MAGA enough." (The fact that there has been no more vociferous tongue-polisher of Trump's ass than Qevin is ignored, because everyone knows he's an empty suit devoid of principles or integrity, who will just say anything to anyone for power, and that endless kowtowing to the worst elements of the overall terrible GOP is what got him into this position in the first place.)
Besides, the Democrats have literally zero incentive, none, to help McCarthy out of the disaster of his own making. He literally bragged about it being hard not to hit Pelosi with the Speaker's gavel when she was "forced" to give it to him. (How's that going, asshat?) He initially condemned the January 6 rioters, and even the fact that he immediately backtracked and went back to orally lavishing Trump's bloated nether regions was not enough for MAGA to forgive him for betraying Dear Leader at all. McCarthy is slime. Democrats aren't going to help elect him because he can't control his caucus, whip votes, do his job, evince consistent ideological principles and/or the existence of a backbone, so on and so forth. Besides, any perception that he had to "cut a deal with the Democrats!!" to get elected would likewise doom McCarthy from day one. There's your ready-made attack line: He's just a Democrat puppet!! Get rid of him for a REAL MAGA AGENDA!
Besides, as myself and others have said, the Terrorism Caucus does not want to govern. They could not care less. They just want to use the House floor for performative shitbaby fascist tantrums, and that's it. McCarthy can grovel, and grovel, and grovel, and by God he will, but that is still not going to do him any good. To that I say, HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, GODSPEED, MOTHERFUCKER.

I have a dog question (or maybe more a Dog Ppl question) Im thinkin u (or maybe Dave, I suppose) could answer if u wanna? The question is, have u noticed an uptick in rly bad dog owners lately? Ive had a recent spike in rly bad, rly scary dog owner encounters. Like as in, multiple accounts of dogs off leash where they v obvs shouldnt b, & the dogs r Big & aggressive enough 2 approach random ppl from a Good Bit Away 2 bark & growl at them, & not come back when their owners call, & then the 1of2
There's always people like this. We get a Lot of off leash dogs with no recall approaching us and our dog at the park, also when @queer-adhd walks him at night. It's absolutely ridiculous and not okay. Way too common. I'm really sorry you're having to deal with this, it can definitely be so scary!

1of2 Just wanna say ty 4 being cool abt transabled stuff, Im not transblted myself but v much sympathize/relate 2 the experience & its always nice 2 c ppl being nice abt it. :) Also wanted 2 add that along w/ everything u said, ik theres also alot of ppl who ID as transabled as a part of working thru/coping w/ selfdoubt/internalized ableism abt their IRL disabilities, whether in a selfaware way or b4 realizing/getting a dx, & ik 4 me at least that rly impacts how I view any 'Being disabled is a
2of3 (oops) privilege' type stuff. Thats not 2 say its not still a problem, but when ur disabled & noone acknowledges it, seeing other disabled ppl that (as far as u kno) /r/ getting that acknowledgement can feel like a privilege, & if ur not in disability activism spaces (whether thru exclusion, cuz u legit dont realize u belong there yet, or 4 w/e other reason), its easy 2 not realize the problems w/ that. Obvs I think goodfaith IDs should b respected regardless of if theyre 'Secretly just X
3of3 other more valid ID but havent realized it yet', but I think its still good info 2 have sumtimes. I absolutely Get the idea of selfdoubt so severe that nothing less than 'Even if u werent X u could still b X' is reassuring. And ableism telling u that ur not rly disabled, u just /want/ 2 b sick, when 'Being sick' means 'Not pushing past ur limits' so hell yeah u want that (& therefore r riddled w/ selfdoubt), thats p much my whole life. Idk lol, rant over, I just wanted 2 say ty & stuff. <3
Another good point! @rozario-sanguinem also brought this up. Transabled as a sort of shelter for disabled people who feel they can't ID as disabled makes a lot of sense, and I can't imagine that being harassed for that would do much to help them come to terms with their disability.
I also definitely understand how people (esp those who aren't as exposed to activism) can have a gut reaction to seeing other people get the recognition they need and jump to "you don't understand your privilege!" It's obviously not a good response, but it's also one born out of real pain and lack of understanding, so it needs to be confronted with understanding and compassion.

my schools attempt with don’t do drugs kid through healthy Harold was weird
I’m in yr 6 at the time, you go into a white van with this picture on it, also this is the inside of the van
we got told a bunch of stories on how if we even think about drinking energy drinks, you will die. Not adults are safe as this storey about this definitely real truck driver dying because he drank a red bull proves it
Also we never got drugs talk but a very specific scenario about Panadol and peer pressure :
you have to go take 2 Panadol tablets at the office, but suddenly the (1of2) office ladies faints and so you walk to the bathrooms while the other office lady sees if she’s ok. (At my junior school the bathrooms at really close the the office like probably 50meters max)
you go into the bathrooms and your friends are there and they ask
“can I have some?”
“no it’s mine, my doctor told me to takes these”
“but we could just spilt them”
and then we ask what we would do and kinda got judged for the hypothetical use in their program getting into the situation,
then we were ask if we wanted to pay the scary giraffe head puppet

After reading your post about Cochise county and a couple articles regarding it, I’m still not 100%. So I know Hobbs is suing to make the republicans certify that county, but if they don’t by the deadline, she legally can’t use their votes in the state’s total? What a sucky situation. I’d hate for my vote not to count, and I’m sure the majority of those people who are yelling fraud aren’t watching/reading anything that’s putting the guilt where it belongs and it’s like a self fulfilling (1of2)
(2of2) prophecy (I.e. I claim election fraud so I don’t certify until we have more time to investigate and now look your vote didn’t count, so clearly fraud). And don’t get me wrong, I would love for more democrats to win, but I still think it’s incredibly unfair that a large group is possibly getting disenfranchised because hateful bigots are refusing to follow the law and do their jobs, especially when I believe the blame is going to go to someone who’s doing her best to make them count.
Oh yeah, absolutely. Believe me, I am not advocating for disenfranchisement, but I also think it's incredibly, morbidly funny (in a gallows humor kind of way) that the MAGA lunatics are so dedicated to performative nonsense and subverting democracy that they are going to end up shooting themselves in the foot either way. They can pull this idiotic stunt and cost themselves a House seat (and also superintendent of public instruction, which is huge in terms of the AZ public school system), just because Rabble Rabble Election Fraud!!!! Or they can buckle under and admit they lost, which is equally untenable. So what are a bunch of democracy-hating morons to do??? They are literally the sweating man with the red button meme. No sympathy at all.
Anyway, the MAGA lunatics are especially cheesed off because Hobbs, the current Democratic Secretary of State, is also the incoming governor and won her race by narrowly defeating Fascist Barbie Kari Lake. So she has to certify her own win as governor, which they HATE because they, in their state of wild, wild projection, assume SHE MUST HAVE CHEATED!!! So the geniuses in Cochise County are pulling a Protest that makes absolutely no difference to the overall election outcomes for the state, but disenfranchises their own (Republican) voters and may end up booting two Republican candidates out of very close races they would have otherwise won. It is truly the epitome of Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes, so... yeah.
