@sneakydraws and I still haven’t figured out the details yet, but tldr Bajie who’s been a disaster of a lawyer at the time acted as a prosecutor in a case against someone Xuanzang decided to help. Chang e was the defence attorney and there was a whole court battle between the two. Bajie was hired by Xuanzang after he was defeated.

He’s very talented in navigating the law but he’s just kind of trash like everyone else in this au- good for him : )

Went back home for the holidays and learnt some new words that are applicable to this AU

三個和尚沒水喝： Three monks that don’t have water to drink --> a term used to describe a group of people who don’t have any work done because they keep pushing responsibility on others.

和尚跳海： A monk jumping into the sea --> a drink that consists of egg, sugar, and water. Used to be seen as a healthy drink.

Hello hello! Ahhh first of all thank you for liking my art and SPECIFICALLY 17jttw! I'm always so so happy whenever someone pays attention to 17jttw and the 17jttw au so like!!! waaaa!

Here are some head-canons that I have (probably) talked to @sneakydraws about:

- Wujing is like. quite literally impossible. He knows how to do practically everything. He's immune to poison and adds mysterious stuff in his soup. his past is 1000x more exciting than whatever he's doing now but he rarely shares anything about it.

- Sanzang really likes to put strange hair accessories on Ao Lie. That's why it's not unusual to see Ao Lie with a pink bow or hello kitty hairclip on his head

- The bull demon king and princess iron fan exists in this AU as Wukong's mafia friends. Largely based off of the characters from 96jttw, they have an insane son that may or may not side with Jiu Gong. They also have marriage issues

- If Sanzang wasn't bald and had such a shitty personality people would've tried to recruit him into idol groups

- Wukong is a fan of more traditional desserts and sweets like dragon beard candy or osmanthus cakes. Sanzang is a fan of more modern candies and junk food.

- Sanzang visits Ao Lie's tiny apartment whenever he had a fight with Wukong and plays on Ao Lie's Nintendo switch nonstop. Hence Ao Lie gets particularly close to Sanzang.

- Wukong and Duan have very similar interests, if not for their love drama, they would be best buddies

- Wukong, Bajie and Wujing go out to drink often and complain about their boss really aggressively.

It’s time for more DSB modern AU content that most of you have probably not asked for!

Zhu Wuneng was once a hot shot lawyer working for the mafia who had it all: wealth, fame, women, until he messed with a clan head and had his reputation ripped to shreds after someone ratted him out to the police (*coughs Officer Duan *coughs). He was working odd jobs here and there practically for free until Sanzang recruited him as a legal consultant. Despite his extraordinary talent to navigate legal loopholes, he spends most of his days lazing around in the office doing his make up and gossiping about his boss. That being said, he does pull his act together when it counts.

Sha Wujing is a ex loan shark that now runs a third rate restaurant near the rehabilitation centre. Known as one of the most brutal loan sharks there was in the city, he used to chase after peoples debts until they begged for their lives. The tattoo on his chest a grim reminder of his victims. Wujing found nothing wrong with once being in the loan shark business (“they agreed to it fair and square!”) but just happened to have a bigger passion for cooking. Now recruited as one of Sanzang’s advisors, he helps him locate people that he needs. To his dismay, Sanzang and his gang usually eat in his restaurant free of charge. They all think it’s terrible and tells him so, and he always tells them to screw right off, but they keep going to eat there anyways.

Both these men were told about Sanzang and Wukong’s secret, but neither believes that they aren’t married.

Hi!!! IK you've probably moved on from your 17jttw modern AU, but I honestly wanna know where I should start to kinda read on all the ideas and stuff you posted for it since I'm really interested in it.

omg hiiiii so admittedly my attention has been elsewhere (partly due to my sudden and explosive encanto obsession, partly due to the massively overambitious student film i'm shitting myself over 24/7) but i can say with reasonable confidence that you most likely haven't seen the last of our modern au! that being said, i can't guarantee more content for it will be made anytime soon, so i'm happy to show you around what's there already.

first and foremost, i think i've managed to remember to tag all the au posts with #17jttw modern au, so going through that tag (especially in chrono order if you're on browser) should get you mostly up to speed! i think i've been good about reblogging all of @frozenladybug's posts about it as well, but just in case there's anything i missed you can always check her blog with that tag as well (not to mention all the amazing non-au posts you'd be missing out on otherwise hehe)

...however, if your desire for au hijinks is not satiated... i suppose i can let y'all in on the google doc we use to compile all our ideas... some of them might be harder to understand than others because, you know, shorthand and inside jokes and all, but it's pretty much the most comprehensive archive of knowledge about this au out there. aside from our brains of course! which brings me to the last point: PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SEND MORE ASKS!! i know i'm super duper busy (and so is flb, we've both got a lot on our plates uni-wise) so i might take a while to reply and probably won't have much art to share, but i promise we cherish every person curious enough to reach out and ask for more details about this au!! don't be shy!!

Oh boy I just kinda stumbled upon ur 17jttw modern au and I am just deeply amused by it, have a silly thought i had about pda that made me giggle: someone suspicious doing the classic "if your so in love why haven't I seen you kiss" thing, and without a beat Xuanzang goes "Wukong is very shy". And Wukong's next to him SEETHING at being described like some blushing virgin but can't exactly do anything about it without having to actually kiss the asshole (he's tempted to just to be mean)

YES ANON YOU GET IT see they absolutely could brush it off with a reserved 'oh haha we just don't wanna be too in anyone's face about it, we're private lowkey people etc.' BUT if they're in the middle of a petty spat you KNOW xuanzang will say that just to piss off wukong 😭you can totally see it with the little polite shit eating grin too ahahahaha
