Kinda can’t believe I did it.
Years ago I discovered a website called royal road where I would read power fantasy’s to kill time. While there I read a story called Super Minion that I liked because I have always liked that type of power set. The summer of last year I found another story on royal road that mentioned it was inspired by Super Minion, which was inspired by worm.
A few days after that I was working as an extra for the first time. It was for a Shania Twain music video and due to an organizing mishap they had us wait for ten hours before they could film our part. While waiting there I googled around to find out what worm was and started reading it. I got four arcs in before I couldn’t take it anymore and ended up looking up some spoilers (sorry wormblr). I loved it and haven’t gone a single day without thinking about it since.
This book has been really special to me. It inspired me to do the first bit of creative writing I’ve done outside of school. I feel like I’ve learned so much about writing and what makes a book good.
I’m learning disabled and I’ve always struggled a lot with reading. I hated it when I was a kid. When I was around 11-13 I discovered the Percy Jackson books and fell in love with them. Worm is the second time a series has captivated me to that extent. I think I’ll be reading a lot more in the future and it’s thanks to this book.

Danny stared at the ceiling above him. Bringing his hands to his face he rubbed at his eyes.
Babe? Why did he call her babe?
The answer was simple really. He couldn’t help himself. It was a slip of the tongue. He didn’t expect the girl in front of him would have reacted any other way. The second the endearment spilled from his lips he watched as her body froze and eyes grew larger. A deer in headlights.
Then came the dusty rose hue that had crept from her neck and onto her cheeks. The way her eyes darted around the room, checking for her friend. Blue orbs frantically searching in the darkened room. Was she looking for help? Or was she making sure the moment had stayed between them? Was she as intrigued by him as he was by her?
His mind was running a mile a minute. His heart rate hadn’t slowed down yet either.
It didn’t help that he found himself lying on the sofa in her living room, surrounded by… her.
He was slightly annoyed at himself that he hadn’t noticed sooner.
It was glaringly obvious Adam did not live here alone.
Scented candles were scattered around the room. A vinyl shelf displaying numerous Taylor Swift records. Knitted blankets and fuzzy decorative cushions lined the sofa and armchair.
Small photos of Adam and Mattie were placed neatly on a bookshelf.
One that looked to be from their university graduation, the pair of them arm in arm with bright smiles on their faces and black robes covering their bodies. Another showing the pair of them at Silverstone, they looked around 11 or 12 years old. Adam was proudly wearing a Mclaren cap, Mattie a Red Bull one and a Mark Webber Red Bull Racing shirt.
So she had a thing for Aussie’s who raced for Red Bull?
He could work with that.
On that same bookshelf he noted the dozens of novels stacked up, filling the shelves to the brim. Bronte, Austen, Fitzgerald, Dickens, Twain, and a list of other authors he had never heard of before. At first he wondered who they belonged to, and then quickly surmised that Adam didn’t strike him as the type for classic literature.
In fact, the only items in the room he could identify as belonging to him were the Xbox placed next to the flat screen TV and the Mclaren uniform hanging on the back of the armchair covered in motor oil. He guessed that Adam probably wasn’t around a lot given the hectic schedule that was the F1 calendar.
The more he looked around the room, the more he learnt. The more he learnt, the more he wanted to know.
Did he make her nervous? Or was she just shy?
His heart raced at the thought. She clearly had been caught off guard by his appearance in her flat at 3AM. The way she had come stomping into the room, ready to yell at her friend for waking her up. The way her angry eyes had gone soft, and then alarmed at the realisation he was not her roommate. She was adorable, he thought.
He needed to stop. He needed sleep.
Closing his eyes he attempted to clear his mind.
I wonder if her Instagram profile is private.
Nope. Nope. He was being weird. They had only officially met in the last 30 minutes. He couldn’t start scrolling through her Insta profile while lying on her sofa while she slept in the other room.
He concluded his infatuation combined with the alcohol still swimming through his system was not a good combination.
With a final sigh he closed his eyes again and tried to get some sleep.

Among the first wave of suburban shopping centers to open around Las Vegas in the 60s was Wonder World Discount Department Store. Founded by a corporate developer in NYC, the first location opened in ‘62 at Decatur Blvd & Vegas Dr. VP of the parent company Herb Kaufman relocated to Las Vegas in ‘66 and turned Wonder World into a local chain, opening Wonder World at Maryland & Twain in 1968, and two others at W Sahara, and E Owens in North Las Vegas. Each department was leased with their own check-out; WOW owned the stores and property.
Wonder World Industries became Chanin Development Corp in ‘71 and developed Regency Tower, the first residential high-rise in Las Vegas. Kaufman later became the producer of Kenny Kerr’s Boy-Lesque. Pay Less bought Wonder World in ‘86, and phased out the name by ‘88.

January 15th 1803 saw the birth of Marjory Fleming, "Pet Marjory", child writer and poet, who died in 1811 of meningitis at the age of 8 years and 11 months.
One of my favourite, yet tragic tales, young Pet Marjory is a touching story of a wee lass that packed so much into her short life.
Marjory Fleming was an extraordinary child prodigy, she left poems, letters and a journal that are now one of the treasures of the National Library of Scotland; and in 1889 Sir Leslie Stephen, Virginia Woolf's father, wrote an entry about her for the original Dictionary of National Biography, believing that 'no more fascinating infantile author has ever appeared. What makes this all the more remarkable is, Marjory was a mere 8 years old when she died.
It’s been said she was a distant relative of Sir Walter Scott, although there is no real evidence they ever met Robert Louis Stevenson and Mark Twain also thought highly of her.
Marjory spent most of her sixth, seventh and eighth years in Edinburgh being tutored by her teenage cousin, Isabella Keith. Isabella is mentioned is the somewhat odd opening line of Marjory’s famous journal: ‘Many people are hanged for Highway robbery Housebreking Murder &c. &c. Isabella teaches me everything I know and I am much indebted to her she is learnen witty & sensible.’
Marjory returned to Kirkcaldy in July 1811, and wrote on 1 September to her cousin, ‘We are surrounded with measles at present on every side’. She herself contracted measles in November and although she apparently recovered, died in December from what is now thought to have been meningitis. She was a month short of her ninth birthday.
Marjory was an accomplished and witty poet and diarist although she was not published until 50 years after her death. Her writings became hugely popular in the Victorian period albeit with the published editions altered as some her her language was thought inappropriate for an eight year old. The first account of her was given by a London journalist in the Fife Herald and reprinted as a booklet entitled Pet Marjorie: a Story of Child Life Fifty Years Ago. The nickname ‘Pet’ and the spelling of her name with ‘ie’ were inventions of her biographer: both appear on Marjory’s gravestone in Abbotshall Kirkyard, Kirkcaldy erected in 1930.
Marjory’s precocious intellect is noted in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography: ‘She records enjoying the poems of Pope and Gray, the Arabian Nights, Ann Radcliff’s ‘misteris [sic] of udolpho’, the Newgate calendar, and ‘tails’ by Maria Edgworth and Hannah More.’ Her abilities are also apparent in the pithy comments in her journal and in her valiant attempts to write in rhyming couplets.
Robert Louis Stevenson is quoted as saying, ‘Marjory Fleming was possibly – no, I take back possibly – she was one of the noblest works of God.’
I had a hunt around and found a few of her poems and have picked out two that I liked best the first is written about her cousin with whom she lived in Edinburgh, the simplicity and innocence of the poem I must admit has brought a tear to my eye, especially as it written by a 6 year old……“

I think it varies between them and over time.
Alfred drops in a lot. God knows there's hardly a spot in the world he hasn't made himself known but I still couldn't quite believe how many statues and memorials. The eagle squadron, the Eisenhower statue, the Reagan statue, the 9/11 memorial garden. Mark Twain, James McNeil Whistler, Harry Selfridge, FDR, Abraham Lincoln. Like goddamn I'm not sure why I was surprised but whoo. So many statues of Yanks paid for by the British.
Anyway: In the 19th century he'd actually spent time in England indulging his need for the latest technology and satiating whatever advances François or Gilbert wouldn't keep him abreast of. Nowadays, especially since the age of flight, he travels a lot and has no shame in rolling up, insulting the food but savoring the whiskey, crashing wherever he likes and drunkenly asking his father's advice. He's very free in how much space he takes up and how much time he feels entitled too. If he's jet lagged he'll just conk out on the old man's spare room and complain it smells like sheep but very much appreciate a night's sleep in a place he once called home.
Matt... He should be very comfortable in that space but he's a dipshit so imposing feels illegal. He kind of knows he can but he's also not willing to test his luck the vast majority of the time. If he's invited he'll show up on time, clean up after himself and promptly leave without causing a fuss. At least the cat's happy he's back to visit lmao. He got permission to pay for a wee fountain in the green park memorial. There was a gate we bought when Victoria locked it and we were still first dominion (Australia was still in the process of confederating.) But yeah he's welcome? Arthur doesn't mind him around if he's not underfoot. But it really was kind of a sign Jan had no idea what Matt's life was like anymore when he asked him to go stay at his dad's in the aftermath of their break up.
Jack lmao he's shameless when he wants some of the old man's attention. I don't think it's all the time, but there are a lot of links there. I swear to God I met so many Australians in England. I tumbled out of a test pit off a corner off a Hadrian's wall fortlet and there were like 6 Australians in every pub in fricken Yorkshire. He will just kind of show up with a very casual but somehow kind of prickly invitation to go to a cultural event of his artists or bands in England and the old fart isn't objecting. It took Arthur a minute to figure out that "Accadacca" meant they were going to go see AC/DC but he wasn't mad about it! Two manic fucks can have a lot of fun. They party quite hard sometimes. Jack was also very responsible for the old man's cooking improving by a metric and imperial fuck tonne. The espresso machine under the cabinet is his baby.
Zee I think is the easiest. She's as independent as Jack but that not quite dead idea that daughters are kind of allowed to be more in and out of the house makes it slightly easier for them. She rolls up and flops on the sofa demanding to be fed and watered. A full fifth of the NZ population lives overseas with Australia and the UK topping the list and if there's things she can't really do in New Zealand or she just doesn't want to live alone she'll just hop over. I feel like she goes in cycles of how independent and revolutionary she's feeling and will just kind of make herself at home if she wants another degree or something similar. She spent time in London without the old man too especially during the peak punk years and they ran into each other at a sex pistols concert. She had a full set of tattoos, an undercut and half a blunt in her system, Arthur had green hair and absolutely ripped on god knows what. She's never seen him so panicked. They stumbled home together having a hoot and throwing beer bottles at cops. Grade a hooligans, those two.

Live Nation announced the return of Concert Week on Thursday morning (May 4), the $25 all-in ticket deal that will cover more than 3,800 shows across North America this year. The week-long annual program will offer limited-time low-dough tickets specials for shows by more than 300 acts, including gigs by Janet Jackson, Fall Out Boy, Don Toliver, Maroon 5, Shania Twain, Snoop Dogg and more.
Between May 10-16, fans can click here to see the full list of available shows, filtered by the events, venues or artists; on the site fans can also search for the closest city with a participating gig. Tickets will be available beginning with Verizon and Rakuten presales, with the both kicking off on May 9 at 10 a.m. ET through 11:59 p.m. local time.

*For Atlas Shrugged, I did enjoy reading it as a book but I didn’t agree with its values; with what the author (Ayn Rand) was trying to convey with her philosophy of objectivism. I did enjoy reading Anthem by her, but maybe I was too young to fully comprehend the intention of the story. I will say though that although I believe being selfish is good for one’s mental health, I do think there should be a limit to it. There’s such a thing as being too selfish (or maybe that’s just me). The type of people (aka Donald Trump) that like “Atlas Shrugged” probably says something about the book itself. But that could also just be me. In summary, this book made me think a lot of things and I would recommend trying it out just as a book, but I also wouldn’t recommend it because of what’s inside the book. Two very contradictory statements but take it as you will.
