Nitpick November
The afterlife day 1
This is my first nitpick november. I missed day 1, so I'm going to do days 1 and 2. I don't know if I'm doing this right, but here I go.
...
So the people of the previous era never went to the afterlife right. I have no real good reason for why I think this outside of this moment here.
Vol 6 episode 3 when ozma met the GoL. GoL says the following words "I'm afraid a tragedy has befallen your home at the hands of my brother." & " Mankind is no more."
During the entire conversation, Ozma is just confused. This always brother me. A lot of this scene, brother me.
If Ozma was in the afterlife, shouldn't he have already known that everyone was killed. I feel like a bunch of people died and entered the afterlife. That would be noticed, right?
This has always bothered me. Shouldn’t Ozma already know this. Later on in the conversation, Ozma says he would rather return to the afterlife to see Salem.
This suggests that on some level, people share the afterlife. Ozma not understanding what happened isn't the issue to be clear. If the entire population suddenly died, I wouldn't expect anyone to understand what happened.
It's more of the fact that Ozma seems to not run across any of them. Sure, it could be the case that only loves one sure afterlife, but that still raises questions only this time about Ozma!
Surely, Ozma must have had friends who were still alive at the time. You're telling me that outside of Salem, he knew no one.
With the GoL using words like a tragedy befallen. He seemed to be unaware that anyone was killed until that moment.
So it leaves me with questions. If humanity didn't go to the afterlife, does this mean similarly to Salem? They were curse to never go to the afterlife. The GoD killed them for betraying them so it wouldn't be out of the question for him to block them from entering.
Assuming that they even visit the afterlife. But that is not all. What happens to the soul in the afterlife. Are they still there... I don't know if I should save this line of thinking for it own thing or finish it here...
I think it would be better if the conversation went like they both knew that mankind had died. (Ozma doesn't knew to know how just that it happened). But that just how I feel anyway.
Because as it's written, I'm left confused on the afterlife. That my Nitpick.
Afterlife but Dust Addition day 2
Continuing on from before. If the people from the previous era didn't make it to the afterlife, what happened to them?
The show hinted that they became dust. At the time, I thought it was only their bodies that became the fuel for dust. But now I think it the soul became dust too.
And if that the case and their souls didn't go to the afterlife, does that mean they are still alive as dust. Does that many, every time Weiss uses dust, she slowly killing them. How aware are they. Can they see their loved one slowly dying beside them. And if their soul are dust, does this mean their souls are being destroyed, and they'll never see their loved one in the afterlife.
And we're told that the people of Remnant were brought to life by dust. So, in a way their the old generation reincarantion. Does that mean that everyone in Remnant can't enter the afterlife. So is Pyrrha just floating in the void, incapable of doing anything.
I didn't mention it, but Ozma, not knowing humanity died, hints that you aren't capable of watching your loved one in the afterlife. So Pyrrha and Penny are just nowhere with no way of knowing what is happening to Ruby and the others. That if their souls weren't obliterate or worse, they became dust.
Anyway, everything I just said isn't the nitpick. It is nessacry for the nitpick. This is my nitpick.
So every time Weiss complained about not having enough dust, she could have technically made her own. Since they may be made from souls, she could have made her own at any time.
Actually, I'm more surprised that no one knows that it is made from people (maybe). You think that Ozma would have found out by now because he has magic and knows the truth of what happened. Actually, I'm surprised none of the main have asked where it came from. In the lost fable, Jinn clearly says that dust didn't exist until after the wiping of humanity.
How interesting would it be if in order to make homemade dust, you had to cut a piece of your soul off. We have already seen Ren hard his aura when fighting the snake grimm. And aura is a part of the soul, so it's not impossible.
And if it was known, there would be a business where people donate pieces of their souls to become dust. It be a great way to earn income.
It wouldn't be perfect, unlike dust that comes from mine, but it could make do. But then again, what if you destroyed a piece of your soul when you did that. When dust runs out, it is not like it would go back to you. This is not even mentioning people with powerful semblance who be kidnapped and have their soul turn to dust.
Dust is underutilized that my Nitpick. Dust and the way it was made could lead to interesting ideas. I'm out.
...
My first two nitpick. Hurray!! I don't know if I did it correctly, but I'm happy to get it out. I'll try to do better for tomorrow.

Problematic Atlas Quotes: Volumes 1-3
Tumblr media
All of the places on Remnant put together have not produced as many jarring incongruities and mixed messages as Atlas. These are all quotes relating to Atlas that really stood out to me at the time and have stayed with me since.
Volume 1
Penny: I am combat ready! (Yeah, but are you ready for anything else? And who would send out a cute girl robot who was ONLY ready for combat?)
Weiss: The innocent never run, Yang! (Karmic law says that one will come back to bite your ass, Weiss.)
Penny: I don't have a lot of friends, but if I did, I would want them to talk to me about things. (We haven't seen this one come back around to Penny yet. Blake, yes. Penny, no.)
Volume 2
Ironwood: But ask yourself this: Do you honestly believe your children can win a war?
Ozpin: I hope they never have to. (Note that Ozpin believes they can. It's having to fight he considers a failure. Later revelations would make his view even more tragic.)
Ruby: But why not let us know you were okay?
Penny: I... was asked not to talk to you. Or Weiss. Or Blake. Or Yang. Anybody, really.
Ruby: Was your dad that upset?
Penny: No, it wasn't my father... (Ironwood speaks next. An early sign of Ironwood's controlling nature.)
Penny: I'm the world's first synthetic person capable of generating an Aura. (Tell me more.)
Penny: One day, it will be my job to save the world (The whole world? Seriously, tell me more.)
Penny: It's okay, Ruby. They're not bad people; I just don't want to get you in trouble. (And why would talking to you get Ruby in trouble? And why send her to a festival that encourages students to talk to each other if you won't let her talk?)
Penny: Just promise me you won't tell anyone else my secret. Okay?
Ruby: I promise.(If she HAD told Pyrrha, the whole debacle might not have happened. Will this come up again?)
Roman: As some of you may have heard, this right here... (Taps the giant mech) ...is Atlas's newest defense against all the scary things in the world. And thanks to my "employer", we've managed to snag a few before they, uh, "hit the shelves".  (Damn, Atlas, y'all got a lot worse security problems than Ruby.)
(The image of Penny dancing by herself at the ball surrounded by uniformed guards. Say what?)
Ironwood: Ruby, I feel it's appropriate to let you know that I think what you did last night is exactly what being a Huntress is all about. You recognized a threat. You took action. And you did the very best you could. (Ah well, that's nice. Doesn't entirely fit in with the rest of your character James, but it's nice.)
Ruby: Wait. You think this girl is connected to Torchwick and the White Fang?
Ozpin: It's possible. But we still lack the required evidence to link the two together.
Ruby: Actually, I... I think I remember her saying something about a hideout, or something, in the southeast. Just outside the Kingdom.
Ozpin: Interesting.
Glynda: I thought you said the intruder never—
Ozpin: Thank you for your cooperation, Ruby. Why don't you go and spend some time with your team? You have a big day ahead of you.
Ruby: Any time.
Ozpin: And Miss Rose, please try and be ... discreet about this matter.
Ruby: Yes sir. (This tells Ironwood several things. It tells him that Ruby will lie for Ozpin, that Ozpin will cover up Ruby's lie to protect her, and most importantly that Ruby and Ozpin TRUST EACH OTHER.)
Glynda: Why must your answer to everything involve a triumphant display of military bravado!? You treat every situation like it's a contest of measuring di—!
Ozpin: Glynda!
Glynda: Well, he does. (Tell me more, Glynda.)
Ozpin: You're a general, James. So tell me, when you prepare to go to war, which do you send in first? The flag bearers, or the scouts? (Why is a civilian Headmaster schooling a general with a lesson taught to greenhorn Lieutenants? And why does he have to?)
Ozpin:  We fought for countless reasons, one of which being the destruction of all forms of art and self-expression. (SOME kingdom has control issues.)
Glynda: You're a good person, James. You've always done what you think is best for the people, even against strong protest. It's admirable. But it's high time you stopped talking about trust and started showing it. (So Ironwood's trust issues are not new. Tell me more.)
Councilman 1: You've left us no choice! The Vytal Festival tournament cannot be broadcast, let alone held, if we are unable to ensure the safety of the citizens.
Councilman 1: Ahem... Therefore, we have reached out to the Atlas Council and together have decided that the best action is to appoint General Ironwood as head of security for the event.
Ironwood: Thank you, Councilman. Our Kingdom is happy to lend as many troops as it takes to ensure that the event runs smoothly and safely as possible.
Councilman 1: And we thank you, General.
Ozpin: Will that be all?
Councilman 1: For now. But after this festival comes to a close, we are going to have a serious discussion about your position at Beacon Academy. General Ironwood's reports over the last few weeks have left us somewhat... concerned. I am sure you understand.
Ironwood: This is the right move, Ozpin. I promise, I will keep our people safe, you have to trust me.(Damn dude, what did Glynda just say about trusting people? And why do you expect Ozpin to trust you when you clearly have tattled behind his back?)
Ironwood: You brought this on yourself. (Yeah, he did. By trusting you.)
Volume 3
I have already written a detailed post on the vast discrepancies between how Winter Schnee behaves and what she is trying to convey in her first scenes, titled "Snowbirds of a Feather". Suffice to say Ironwood isn't the only Atlesian sending mixed messages.
Ironwood: If you were one of my men, I would have you shot!
Qrow: If I was one of your men, I'd shoot myself.(So y'all have an acrimonious history as well. Okay.)
Goodwitch: While I wouldn't condone his behavior, retaliating like you did certainly didn't help the situation. ("Call yourself a grown-up? I've seen better behavior from first-year students! Why do I even have to say anything to you? Don't answer that.")
Qrow: You sent me to get intel on our enemy, and I'm telling you, our enemy is here.
Ironwood: We know.
Qrow: Oh! Oh, you know! Well, thank goodness I'm out there risking my life to keep you all informed!
Ironwood:Qrow-
Qrow: Communication's a two-way street, pal. You see this? That's the SEND button.
Winter: They had reason to assume you'd been compromised. (So, Ironwood, explain to me WHY, if you seriously think Qrow has been compromised, you haven't brought it up with HIS BOSS before now? Isn't that information kind of important?)
Qrow: Despite what the world thinks, we're not just teachers, or generals, or headmasters. The people in this room, the leaders of the other two academies, we're the ones that keep the world safe from the evils no one even knows about! It's why we meet behind closed doors, why we work in the shadows. So you tell me, James, when you brought your army to Vale, did you think you were being discreet, or did you just not give a damn!?
Ironwood: Discreet wasn't working. (Explain.)
I'm here because this is what was necessary. (Explain.)
Qrow: You're here because Ozpin wanted you here! (Is it just me, or does anyone else think this sounds like it was an unpopular decision?)
Ciel: Ruby Rose. 15. Hails from Patch. Leader of Team RWBY. Status: Questionable. (Daaaammmn son. We need to talk. You ordered a full background check on a teenage girl just because she talked to your android? And then you gave it to your android's handler? And on top of all that, a gifted honor student from a multigenerational Huntsmen family who leads Beacon's first-year star team, who Ozpin clearly trusts, only rates as "Questionable"? Who doesn't rate as "Questionable"? Oh that's right. Qrow is also "Questionable", and so is Ozpin. Tell me, do you rate yourself as "Questionable"?)
Ciel: Penny? I believe it is best if we move on to our next location.
Penny: Could we have just a minute to talk? (No seriously, is Penny now not allowed any free time?)
Ciel: It's been precisely one minute, ma'am.(Apparently not.)
Penny: Ruby, there's something I've been wanting to talk to you about. I want to stay at Beacon.
Ruby: Penny, they'll never let you do that.
Penny: I know, but I have a plan.(Tell me more.)
Yang: You're from Atlas. What could we expect?
Weiss: Well, seeing as their Kingdom, academy and armed forces are all merged as one, I think we can expect strict, militant fighters with advanced technology and carefully rehearsed strategies.  ... Or whatever they are.(So even other Atlesians think Atlesians send mixed messages.)
Ironwood: For the past few years, Atlas has been studying Aura from a more scientific standpoint; how it works, what's it made of, how it can be used. We've made... significant strides. And we believe we've found a way to capture it.
Qrow: Capture it and cram it into something else. (Dude, exactly WHERE did Penny's Aura come from?)
Ironwood: What I believe and hope this to be is nothing more than the result of stress and adrenaline. When you're out on the battlefield, your judgment can become clouded in an instant. Sometimes you see things that simply aren't there. Even after the fight is past... (That answers that question. You don't trust yourself either. What happened to you?)
Ironwood: Ozpin, the girl... I-I can explain! (You've got a full scale Grimm invasion going on and you're more terrified of OZPIN? What did you do to create Penny, James? How ELSE have you betrayed Oz?)
Ironwood: Qrow! This isn't my doing! (Why did you automatically assume Qrow is attacking you instead of looking behind you? Guilt?)
This post is long enough already, so I'll finish later. While I may be overreacting to some of these statements, that doesn't explain all of them. It's looked from the beginning like there was something fishy going on in Atlas, especially having to do with Ironwood.

Another real long “I don’t like Bumbleby” post (Part 2)
Part 1 is here.
The Adam fiasco
We’ve reached the most controversial point in the essay: Adam.
Adam was… a symbol. He didn’t have much to offer in personality and screentime, but he represented. Until he stopped representing and became a mere tool for Bumbleby to develop.
I know, I know, another Adam fan who coincidentally dislikes Bumbleby. What can I say?
Adam was the sacrificial goat for Bumbleby. His existence became so tied to them that his whole faunus vs SDC plot became just an afterthought. He became a puppet to do Evil Things; if you pay close attention, especially in daylight scenes, you can actually see the strings on his back.
Adam had lost his way in every sense of the word. And he became a monster: Bumbleby’s heart.
Tumblr media
Bees are gonna beat me up for this one.
Yes, Adam became such a vital piece for Bumbleby to develop, their whole relationship revolved around him. Yes, he traumatized both girls, but V1-V2 gave us nothing else to chew on. No bonding, no cute smiles, no development. Adam triggered the rise of Bumbleby like kaboom. Bam, now there’s Bumbleby. And what cemented their relationship? Killing him.
I need to ask: why does a wlw relationship revolve around a man? Why does everything in RWBY come back to a man? Jaune speaks over Ruby. Pyrrha dies so Jaune can have development. Qrow steals screentime along with Oscar like a madman. Adam is a matchmaker. Can the “RWBY is a feminist show” take die already? It ran away when Pyrrha was fridged.
Worse is? Bumbleby is good because Bumbleby is BETTER than Tauradonna.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or so it seems. Ahem.
Now. Of course it’ll be better than Tauradonna, as it isn’t an abusive relationship. But what I mean is, this is the ONLY thing going for it. Oh, you should ship it because it’s better than Tauradonna. No, it’s not its own thing. It’s just better than Tauradonna. And no, we can’t stop comparing to it.
I know abuse leaves you a wound it’s difficult to heal, and you’ll inevitably make a comparison. I’ve been in an abusive relationship too. But Bumbleby should be its own thing, developed separately from Tauradonna, and then compared. I didn’t get enough screentime and reasons to ship them, and now you want me to compare it to an abusive relationship? Of course I choose Bumbleby! The other option is horrendous and… hey, this is more manipulative than I thought!
And the killing… oh, there’s nothing more romantic than killing a guy together. Maybe I’ll try this next time I wanna date a dude. Forget Netflix and chill, this is the real thing!
The show handled it… shakingly okay. Blake cried, Yang comforted her. Alright. Fine.
But now Adam’s not here, what’s gonna happen? Let me guess: we’ll get all the Bumbleby screentime we didn’t get early enough. Some say “Great, now it’s gonna be RW-BY instead of RWBY”. Maybe. I don’t really care. Ruby seemed to be more comfortable alongside JNR, and Weiss does what she can. Maybe she could get incorporated to the team too? Or form a new one with Qrow and Oscar (and Ozpin)? Hey, it’s not a bad idea. Either way, the dynamics will change, but as long as they don’t take too much time off other characters, it’ll be fine. I gave up.
Tumblr media
DC comics development
I’m not 100% sure of how to feel with this one.
I couldn’t read the DC comic, but some… definitely interesting screenshots were posted. I could see that they don’t care very much about canon (I can’t take Raven seriously anymore). But they also patched some things up, meaning: Bumbleby.
Remember when I complained about not seeing enough Bumbleby bonding to actually buy the ship? Well, DC comics gifted us one, two, eight panels of Bumbleby bonding: borrowing books, offering food, braiding hair. Sounds very nice… and very late. And very fake.
Why didn’t we see this on the show? This feels like those eight panels are supposed to show peak Bumbleby bonding and we must be satisfied with it. Peak LGBT+ representation right there. Why didn’t we cut off Arkos, Renora, Iceberg and Blacksun and spent time with Bumbleby instead? Why should I feel satisfied with a mere eight panels?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not genuine at all.
Bonus: the newest take goes like “DC comics was CRWBY trying to build more Bumbleby with moments at Beacon we didn’t get to see in the show because the episodes were ONLY 6 MINUTES LONG”. So CRWBY had time to build Arkos, Renora, Iceberg, Blacksun and not the main ship? Those 6 minutes were enough to build straight relationships but not the main wlw one? What an unfortunate coincidence.
What would have you done differently?
Tumblr media
Team BSCE.
Bonding: why is Yang interested in Blake? Why is Blake interested in Yang? What does make Yang feel like she can be vulnerable around Blake instead of, let’s say, Weiss? What do they talk about, that isn’t Adam, or Ozpin? Do they have private jokes? Do they look forward to spend time together? Does Blake know what Yang’s favorite food is? Do they train together more time than they should? Why do they love each other? How do they support each other? Does Yang read books about faunus?
Showing: how does Yang feel when Sun flirts with Blake? How does Blake feel when Yang flirts with guys? What makes them blush? What is their body language? Do they notice things about each other no one else notices? Do they think about closeness? Do they think about each other at night? Do they think about kissing each other? How does their attitude change? Do the rest realize something’s going on?
Conflicting: besides Adam, what problems do they have? Blake has been shown to feel like a burden and isolate herself, but what about Yang? Do they have things about each other they barely stand? Do they share the exact same mindset? Do they have arguments and about what? How do they handle disagreements and arguments? How do they approach problems? How do they fix them? Do the same problems come up over and over again? What things they don’t tell each other? What do they hide from each other? Do they expect each other to defend them on arguments with others?
Exploring: what’s their endgame like? What are their dreams and goals, and do they collide with each other? Do they think about the future? Do they have a theme? Did they develop separately, as individual people, before developing their relationships? Are they dependent? If one of them died, would the other (take revenge and) move forward, or fall into deep depression? Can they live apart from each other and things don’t change? And what if things do change? What things change? How do they face change?
Yes, I love asking questions. One brings another, and another, and before you realize, you thought a lot about the couple and their core. You don’t need to answer every single one of these questions, but it can help you develop a clearer and deeper relationship, better than… I don’t know, sudden love?
Tumblr media
Show bonus (what I posted on twitter):
·         Yang interested in faunus. It is sudden, and Ruby realizes (Yang taking lots of notes during history class but only on faunus lessons, finding her in the library reading about faunus [allows for cute funny moment! Yang never reads!], talking to Velvet)
·         After being informed, Yang asking Blake about her experiences (Adam topic could be brought up and thus foreshadowed), making them closer. This also has an impact on Yang, which drives her to defend Velvet from Cardin, making friends with Sun, etc
·         Yang would also be more careful about the jokes she makes, trying not to make any racist ones and letting Blake explain her which ones are
·         Just talking in general. Deciding to spend time together when they're free (that does NOT mean they're never with the group)
·         Free time together allows for more talking and deeper topics brought up more naturally (ex: more about Yang's mother, maybe some other insecurities, further deepening her character)
·         Blake realizing Yang is allowing herself to be "weaker" around her, so she supports her a lot
·         They would defend each other in an argument against Weiss for example, and if that isn't the case, whoever wasn't defended would feel hurt and they would have to talk about it (fixing problems and talking out disagreements)
·         LISTENING AND TALKING TO EACH OTHER
·         Knowing small things about each other, for example Yang's secret place when she wants to think, Blake's favourite tea, etc
·         Yang trying to show off her strength, making flirtatious comments that Blake doesn't get and getting embarrassed
·         Yang feeling hurt when Blake spends more time with Sun and seems to be falling in love with her, but not acting on it because she doesn't wanna to get in their way and wants Blake to be happy
·         Blake missing Yang
·         Yang trying to flirt with other girls and Blake feeling strange
·         When talking with Sun, the Yang topic is brought up frequently and Sun realizes and tells Blake she seems special, Blake starts to realize something
·         Blake running away breaks Yang as she had put a lot of trust on her, even allowing herself to be "weak", and she knew about Yang's abandonment issues. Yes it's the same in canon, but it had more buildup and thus is more heartbreaking
·         During Menagerie arc, Yang is brought up often and Blake finally realizes her feelings, while Sun accepts his place as just a friend and supports her all the way (also Yang is his friend too, remember!)
·         From this point on you can drop canon on it just fine
·         BUT ADD THE TALK™! They need to talk about Blake running away. PLEASE.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
This is not me saying “Do NOT ship Bumbleby”. Ship whatever the hell you want. I ship things that don’t even make sense. This is me saying “Your ship isn’t as good as you think it is, please stop attacking other shippers for pointing it out, and no, your argument ‘you’re just homophobic’ isn’t always valid”.
I don’t want to talk about bees anymore. Never again. But I probably will, when volume 7 drops. Until then…
Beehaw, I guess.

General Thoughts on the Girls
I would say that the Girls (RWBY) are a controversial topic, but it seems like, here lately, everything in the fandom is a controversial topic. It's almost like some people can't just ~not complain~ about the show and just accept it for what it is. Sure, there are flaws in the show and the characters, but give me one show that doesn't have problems at all. Seriously. I'd like to watch that and nitpick it to find the flaws that you say aren't there. I mean, honestly, I can give you plenty of shows that are worse than RWBY, and I can also give you plenty of shows that are better than RWBY. Is RWBY the best show out there? No. Is RWBY the worst show out there? Absolutely not. So why don't we give CRWBY a break, because, obviously in my opinion, they are not doing too bad with the show, and I think that it has gotten better the longer it's been going on, regardless of my personal opinions on the characters and how they turn out (because I can see the logic behind every character storyline whether I like it or not).
(We're not talking about Qrow here. He's a different story.)
Tumblr media
So, I'm not gonna go through the girls in the typical way. I'm gonna go through them depending on how much I have to say about each of the girls.
I'm starting with Weiss. There's not much to say here. She's pretty well rounded in character and powers and all of that. She hasn't ever really done anything that I've had problems with (outside of season 1 but she's come a long way since then and I'm so proud of her!).
(Ice Queen!)
Tumblr media
Next up is Ruby Rose. My Sweet Halloween Baby.
*sigh*
Ruby is a very good leader, sometimes to a fault. She does a really great job looking after her team (RNJR + RWBY). She is a great strategist when she has all the information that she needs to form the best plan she could. She's great at building confidence in her teammates and making someone feel better about themselves. She can make the impossible seem possible just through a simple speech. She has a way with words that just makes people feel like they could do anything if they just try hard enough and believe in themselves and each other. She really embodies the whole "Power of Friendship" deal I see in a lot of other anime (RWBY ~is an anime and you ~can fight me about it). All of these things about her character remind me a lot of Goku (I think we all know who Goku is). I have every season and every movie of Dragonball Z and Super (we're not going to mention Stupid Super Goku from the Future Trunks Arc) and a lot of Ruby's speeches remind me of some of my personal favorites of Goku's. Some people might say that M+K are just imitating better writing or whatever, but I would answer that with an old saying of "Imitation is the highest form of flattery." and I don't think that they should be criticized for that. Not to mention that I have seen where they have taken inspiration from ATLA and HP but that's not a bad thing. I'm getting off topic. The complaint of Ruby being a protagonist who is just based on like hero speeches or whatever is kind of a weak complaint to me when you have other amazing protagonists in anime that can be boiled down to the same thing with their own little quirky things going on to distinguish them from others but they're all basically the same. That's a complaint I've seen others have with her, but my only complaint with Ruby is her... self-righteousness?.... (?)(I think that's the right word) She sometimes comes off as if she feels she's better than others? (it comes up more and more as the seasons go on but this might just be me lol) This is something I can accept tho as her just being young and I'm curious to see how she grows out of that but it's not really a deal breaker for me on her character and how much I like her. Also, just like Goku, a lot of times she isn't very good at taking care of herself. This isn't something I have any complaints on, it's just something I hope she can grow out of, because you can't take care of the people you care about, unless you can take care of yourself first.
Tumblr media
Now, onto Blake. I don't have much to say about her actions in the show, not really, but I do have some things to say on her personality. In my opinion, Blake is a Go Big or Go Home type of character. By that, I mean that she doesn't put much effort into things that she doesn't care about (honestly same). For instance, in season 4-5 she was very passionate and active about her stance on not fighting and just resting, and then about getting help to go to Haven. These are things she has a strong opinion on. My problem with Blake is that lately she doesn't seem to have many strong opinions on many things. There are a few moments where she does speak up about how she feels about certain situations, but after season five they are spaced out and not really focused on. I like to think of this as just her being not as confident around her team after what she did at the end of season three *cries in Pyrrha Nikos*. Even tho I do have a problem with this part of Blake's story, I do understand where she's coming from. Whether you sympathize with her (I do) or not, she did a crappy thing to her friends, and even wanted her friends to hate and reject her. Even if you grow past those kinds of thoughts, the memory of having them, and the feelings associated, never quite leave you. I can see Blake feeling weird about being around her teammates, who accepted her back into the team without question, after having had those thoughts about them. If I remember correctly, Blake has never told RWY that she felt that way after she left them. Just because she's on better terms with her teammates, that doesn't mean those feelings go away. I may not agree with some of her decisions in the show past season five, but I can also see why she made the choices she did. I have problems with Blake, but none of them are big enough to warrant not liking her as a character and as a person.
Tumblr media
Oh, Yang.
I have never personally related to Yang as a person. She's not really my kind of people. I probably could not, at this point in my life, hang out with her for very long at a time. This does not mean I don't like her. She's a wonderful sister and teammate. I have a lot of thoughts on her, and they may be controversial (*snort* what isn't?) so I'm just gonna jump right in.
I don't think she should have ever even spoken to her mother and should have forgotten about her. I also have an absent birth mother who would rather do anything that doesn't include being a mother over actually being a mother. It's easier to get over a crappy parent when you don't know how crappy that parent is, and you can just imagine they are a good person on the inside. (Oh, right, this is my opinion based on my own experience with a crappy mother so obviously you may have a differing opinion on Raven and Yang.)
I think Yang should have told everybody that Raven is the Spring Maiden. That is definitely something that needs to be known, in general, but more specifically because she is the only one who can open the vault under Haven. Not much to say here. Just that Yang should have spoken up.
Now that I'm thinking about it, all of the problems I have with Yang can be traced back to her meeting with Raven in season five. I understand why the story took her to Raven, I just don't like the ideas that Raven put into Yang's head. I don't like the way that meeting changed Yang and her point of view on the world. I don't think, in the grand scheme, that this is a bad decision. I actually like it in the sense that now Yang can start growing past her obsession (this is not always a bad word) with her mother's decision to leave her behind. I just don't like that, in universe, Raven, as Yang's mother, put Yang in the position she's in, mentally and emotionally.

So, to sum up, I don't have many issues with the girls as characters, but there are decisions they have made that I have problems with. That being said, I don't fault any of the girls for the decisions they did make, because I have no idea how I would react if put into a similar situation, so how can I hold the girls' decisions against them when I have nothing to compare them to in my own life. I haven't lived during a World War, so I have no knowledge of what a war-torn world would look like or how it would feel to live in such a broken world. Sure, I could research it, but that doesn't come close to experiencing the real thing. I'm not a soldier, so I have no experience in the military and I have no idea of the weight of the decision to go against your commanding officer on an order given in the middle of a war with so many lives on the line. Having knowledge of the military and experiencing being in the military are two very different things. I have the right to my own opinion on the decisions of the characters, but I do not have the right to judge these characters on the decisions they make because I have not been in a situation similar to most of the situations these teenagers (yes, they are still teenagers so maybe cut them some slack) have been in.

The RWBY fandom can be very inconsiderate sometimes. CRWBY did not have to continue this show after season three. We could have been left with so many questions. What was up with that white light from Ruby's eyes? Is Weiss going to be ok being back home with her negligent parents? Is Blake going to be ok being on her own after what happened with Adam? What about Adam!?!? What about Yang!? Are her and Ruby going to make up!? Are her and Blake going to make up!?!? Is Tai going to try to track Ruby down and bring her home? Is he gonna stay home with Yang? What about Jaune, Ren, and Nora? How are they handling Pyrrha? What's the new team's name going to be? What about Qrow? What about Ozpin!? What about this chick named 'Salem'!?!? How does she play into this? How does she know Ozpin!? What about the Vaults and the Maidens? What about the schools? What about the students!? Who died in the Fall of Beacon!? OMG! What happened to CVFY!? What about the teachers? What about the school itself? What about that giant Grimm?? What about Cinder!? What about Emerald and Mercury? What about SSSN?? Whatever happened to Raven? Are we gonna get an update on Winter? What about Penny!?!? Why are there no other people with Silver Eyes? Is Torchwick really dead?? Is Neo??? Why is Neptune afraid of the water!?
(I could go on and on, but you get the point.)
All of the above (and more) questions that most of us had at the end of season three have been answered by all of the seasons and (canon) books that have followed that CRWBY did not have to give us. They could have dropped this show as soon as they could and went and did something completely different and unrelated to RWBY and just left the entire fandom hanging. They have continued to put out new content and merch for this show and have always tried to do their best to continue it. And yet, they are constantly insulted on their writing, world building, etc. by people who think that they know the story and characters better than CRWBY do, even knowing that M+K, who get the most hate mind you, have been on the show since day one (you know, the seasons I have heard are the best, the ones everybody says are gold, or whatever, don't forget M+K were all in on that part of the show too). And to be honest, I have seen a lot in the fandom who are very hostile and aggressive in their hate toward CRWBY solely because the story and characters didn't go the way that they wanted. I'm grown up enough to say that I stopped watching a show (CW Arrowverse) (OUAT) solely because I did not like the way the story and characters went. I do not need to hide behind the excuse that 'the writing was bad'. Just because the writing and characters aren't up to your, seemingly, high standards, that does not mean it was ~bad writing and characters.
(Like, for real, y'all are complaining about RWBY when Twilight is right there!? Really!? Sounds fake but ok....)
I wasn't going to talk about this, but I figured why not? It's on my mind, and nobody reads my posts anyway.

Is it just me or does it feel like the story is building up to Yang putting her foot down and outright saying no? Looking back at volume 1, you have her interactions with Ruby which is Yang basically fleeing a lot to both push Ruby out of the nest while not having to tell Ruby she's pushing her out of the nest. Just, Yang doesn't get into arguments except for the one time with Blake in 2-6. Just very un-confrontational socially which actually isn't a good thing. Or when she argues her arguments

are ignored. Ala, Taiyang and whether or not Yang is old enough to hear about Raven. (And a fair bit of the adults talking at her following the framing) possibly Ruby depending on how Yang telling her running off to Haven was taken. Suddenly Yang not speaking up seems to be making a saddening amount of sense. Don’t know what would be worse, people being surprised at Yang speaking up or people being surprised at Yang speaking up with an opinion different than expected (ie. in opposition of them)
yeah, and when she got confrontational with Blake in 2x06 it was because she needed to in order to get through to Blake
from what we hear about Ruby leaving, Yang told her it was reckless but Ruby “didn’t want to listen”, so yeah, Yang just gets ignored a lot
but yeah, Yang pushing back and saying no, that she’s not going along with what everyone else wants or expects, is going to be necessary at some point, for her own sake as well as making her voice heard to the others
(I mean if we want to talk about avoiding confrontation, watch her when Blake and Weiss start arguing in 1x15 - while Ruby tries to get involved to stop the fighting, Yang just fades into the background with a troubled expression - makes sense when, with the nature of the argument, siding with either Weiss or Blake, neither of whom were fully in the right and making straw arguments, would have risked potentially alienating her from one of them - or both if she’d just tried to stop the argument without taking a side - and given how Yang reacts to people leaving, that would be understandably scary for her. even in the next episode, after she and Weiss split from Ruby and Penny, she’s very hesitant when asking if Weiss doesn’t care whether or not they find Blake)
