It seems like you have a vendetta against Shulk/Fiora. Like, not just disliking it and preferring Shulkelia but straight up hate the canon ship of the game. Why?

Thank you for asking this! It's an interesting question and I have a quite a bit to say about it (as usual with me aha). So I'll put the details under the cut, but yes, I personally do not like any aspect of the canon relationship/writing of it at all (although I don't go into that here since I talked about much more than I expected lol, if you're curious specifically about what my opinions are on the dialogue/choices in the game regarding Shiora feel free to send me another ask!). Also if you've read my fanfics (genuinely not trying to plug my work haha I swear) and see how I write Fiora and her friendship with Shulk, and especially the fic where I write from her pov for the whole thing, you can see I don't hate her and try to be respectful to her creators and fans! Anyway, for a TL;DR:

Aside from my personal history (which also is part of why I like Shulkelia as much as I do) causing the way Fiora's attraction to Shulk is written to not come off very well to me, and even ignoring what I've seen on the Internet about how people react to these ships and those who like or dislike them, it's just A Thing About Life that there will be parts of media you really like and parts of the same media you really don't, and that's what makes art engaging and impactful and personal and fun to talk about! I'm just someone who always has a lot to say about anything, so don't take my diatribes as anything more than me being passionate about analyzing stuff haha. I still love Xenoblade 1 with all my heart, and me not liking parts of the series such as Xenoblade 2 (very much) or Shiora (at all) doesn't affect how much I enjoy what I do like! It's just another fun facet to delve into for me, whether it's a thing I like or a thing I dislike.

And when all you see and know of me is from a blog that's specifically just for talking about a small facet of one piece of media, I can come off as more melodramatic about my liking of Shulkelia and disliking of Shiora since I don't talk too much about the rest of Xenoblade as a whole, nor anything else for that matter, on here. I promise I don't truly care that much about this fictional love triangle in my day-to-day life, and I'm sorry if I came off as rude about it! If you like their relationship then... I do want to say more power to you, and count this as me having said so, but also I don't feel like I need to because, as you said, it is canon so the Xenoblade devs have been (and probably will be!) providing plenty of enjoyment for you, and so no one should care what a silly singular stranger like me thinks at the end of the day haha.

But if you do, then here's what I have to say:

First off, I just enjoy really thoroughly dissecting everything I like, as well as dislike (as you will soon see!). I like delving into details and analyzing stuff, and sometimes that passion can be a little too obsessive, which can come off as me being passionate in my hatred of The Thing rather than passionate about analyzing why I hate The Thing (which is what's really going on). So it's important to me to say that when I talk about anything I dislike in depth like this, it's not ever meant to be hating on or attacking people who do like it! I just really find it fun to put things under a microscope, both when I really like them and really dislike them, because I enjoy discovering what, specifically, about them makes me feel that way.

I also think it's important to repeat that point about how this blog is both 1) meant to be near-exclusively about Shulkelia and 2) the posts I make here are pretty much my entire online footprint (outside of my fanfic account which is p much about the same topic aha), and as such these are the only things that strangers have to form an opinion about me (much like the common criticism brought up about parasocial relationships). When I log on to this blog I'm here to talk about my Xenoblade OTP or things related to it, and so that's all you see of/know about me. And even though the reason I made this blog is because of how much I like it (I'm kind of obsessive about the things I'm really passionate about, I've been that way my whole life, so that certainly doesn't help either haha), there are things I may like equally or even more, but because they aren't what this blog is for I don't mention them, and so anyone who doesn't know me won't know about them unless I talk about them. When you only see the fraction of me that I'm willing to share, then of course it'll seem like that fraction is the whole me if you never get to see the other 99%.

So much in the same way that I can seem super obsessed about Shulkelia (which, to be fair, I do get that way some days haha) it can seem like I really really hate Shiora too, since the only time I'm going to talk about it is on a blog that's dedicated to a different ship, and since I'm not really a multishipper nor do I enjoy the writing of it in canon, I won't ever have much nice to say about it. And because it's a canon ship that most people seem to enjoy, it's going to come up from time to time on art that either has Fiora/the love triangle involved or in the comments I see on it, and since I have something to say about it I do. Although I do genuinely not like it at all, I try to do it in a way where it's clear I'm not hating on people who enjoy it, either by trying to hammer home that it's just my personal opinion about it, or being super hyperbolic about disliking it in an attempt at humor. But tone and meaning can get lost from brain to text and I'm surely not the best at wording things sometimes, so I don't blame anyone for getting the wrong impression, and if that's happened I do apologize!

For example, if this blog was instead about my love of Mexican food (which is true!) and was meant for being a catalogue of recipes I come across, I'd probably talk in the tags pretty often about how I lament that so many recipes have cilantro in them because I have the weird cilantro-tastes-like-soap gene and so it tastes awful to me (which is also true!). When this happens over and over again on so many recipes that have cilantro, and when this repetition is all you ever get to see about me, it would probably seem like I have a burning hatred for cilantro, when in reality I barely think about it at all, and if something I want to eat has it I'll just politely ask for no cilantro or silently pick it off. I do think the weird gene is interesting, and I have a fun story about how I found out I have it which I enjoy telling, but I'm also just fine eating my food if no one wants to talk about it.

But that comparison isn't perfect, because there's a lot more going on in interpersonal relationships (fictional or not) and why people enjoy them or not. So let's get into that!

I did mention there were personal reasons why I feel the way I do, and to the extent I do, about these pairings, so it's only fair to explain what that's about. All throughout my life up until college I never had anyone show any romantic interest in me, even in high school, while in contrast all my friends as well as my sister had been in multiple relationships, so I felt rather lonely and figured there was something wrong with me if no one would want to date me haha. But I did of course have crushes of my own (that because of the aforementioned thought I had that I was unlikable I never acted on) and one of them was on a mutual friend that my best friend at the time also knew, as well as knew that I liked him. And all of a sudden one day they were going out and being affectionate all the time, including right in front of me even though my friend knew I liked him. That plus my loneliness from before obviously hurt really bad and made me pretty upset for a while haha.

Then on top of that later that year I would connect with someone like I never had before in my life and he "felt the same way", the very first person to ever tell me they liked me and I believed it. I honestly do still think he did like me... yet he would go on to get into a relationship with someone else and all the while repeatedly promise me that I was special to him and that she didn't get him like I did and he'd leave her for me but of course we can still have our deep talks about his personal problems and blah blah blah. There's a lot more to it than that but I'll cut it short and just say this happened for literally every single day for an entire year of my life, and it really deeply affected me for a long time, though I'm fine now of course. Well, it did change me as a human being, but you know what I mean haha. I don't say this to elicit pity (really, don't, I promise I'm fine) but to give you some puzzle pieces to help figure out the mystery of why I dislike Shiora.

So I'm sure you can see the parallels from my life to what Melia goes through, and that's precisely the mechanism that everyone uses to relate to and love fictional characters: they deal with horrible stuff that we can connect back to horrible stuff we've been through, and we empathize with them. That's one reason why so many people love Shulk (including me!), and Melia, and countless other characters. That's kind of what they're here for: to relate to. He just like me for real and all that. So, in the same way my life experiences make me relate so much to Melia, I can also relate those who I liked but never could be with to Shulk and relate their girlfriends to Fiora. And knowing how those real-life relationships ended up and why they didn't work out, I can really see parallels to how Fiora and Shulk's relationship is written, at least with the vibe I got from it on first and second impression. Therefore I both dislike it for personal reasons and the information those reasons gave me about good and bad relationships.

On a lighter note though, there's another aspect to the whole we-like-characters-we-identify-with thing with regards to shipping: I really do think the ships we like (if any) are based on and a reflection of ourselves and what we want in a partner (should we want to have one). Or in simpler terms, our OTPs are often made up of a character we can self-insert as and a character we would marry if they were real haha. And I don't mean that in a bad way at all! It's fun to make up fake scenarios with fake characters that you want to kiss, even when you're not writing direct-self-insert or xReader stuff (which I also don't bash)! I'm certainly guilty of this myself, even as much as I try to write them true to their character, relating so much to Melia and finding a lot about Shulk attractive for reasons that Melia also does means I'm just like everyone else haha. But on the other side of the coin, the fact that I cannot relate to Fiora in so many ways as well as do not vibe with how she treats her attraction to Shulk means I can't really enjoy the thought of them as a couple.

But outside of talking about the canon for just a second more, I think there's an interesting phenomenon(? idk what to call it lol) here that is in this ask as well as many other people's vocalized opinions regarding this game's love triangle: said canon. As in, the concept that someone could like Xenoblade 1 overall but dislike the canon relationship either confuses and/or upsets some people. Which is strange to me on its own, like do these people also get confused and/or mad when someone says they love hamburgers but hate when they have pickles on them? Everyone has their own tastes, and what you like or how much of it you do is just part of being an individual. (Plus I must say it's extra odd with regards to Shulkelia, as I've never seen the same comments/reactions to ships like Meliora, Shulk/Reyn, Shalvis, Dunban/Melia, etc, despite the fact that they're all equally as non-canon as Shulkelia. Maybe it's because the game firmly shoots down Shulk liking Melia so hard? But it also shows how much Fiora likes Shulk, so wouldn't Meliora [which is pretty darn popular as far as Xenoblade 1 ships go, at least from my browsing] be just as "anti-canon"?).

For extra context too, there are. SO. many friendzoned/"haha Shulk doesn't like Melia" memes and jokes out there (and if these people are so concerned with canon, it's weird how often they make Shulk and/or Melia act out of character super hard to push the joke!) which don't really exist to be pro-Shiora and more just anti-Shulkelia. I even came across a guy on reddit who would post Melia fanart every day, and so many of his posts were stalked by this one dude who would write a little rant about how Melia sucks and Fiora is the best, and would really go off if the fanart showed Melia's crush on Shulk in any way. Now he was super downvoted every time but... I've never seen anyone do that for Shulkelia. And yet I have seen quite a few posts of people complaining about Shulk/Melia fans shoving their ship in their faces and how much it sucks as a ship and I'm like i have been trying for MONTHS to find a single scrap of shulkelia content yet find barely anything and what i do find has SO many comments saying they still like shiora or that they hate the art since it's not shiora literally WHO are you talking about??? Like maybe I just am unlucky and have seen literally all 20 or whatever number of instances of Shiora fans being rude that ever existed but... they still do exist. I'm not making this up, in fact I encourage you to go out and search for Xenoblade fan content regarding this love triangle and see how people react to it! That's what I did and that's how I came across all of this!

Anyway, like was there a huge ship war in the early fandom days or something??? If so why can I find no mention of it anywhere except from salty Shiora shippers/Fiora fanboys, like barely any Shulkelia art even exists and I see zero talk from the supposed pushy Shulkelia fans? They have like 30 freaking fics in existence and half of them are Melia sulking about how Fiora is being lovey dovey with Shulk and showing they actually got together after all so don't even really count as Shulkelia fics!! In my searching for Shulkelia content I come across so many comments from people who like the ship trying to downplay their enjoyment of it and placate any potential Shiora fans reading their comments with "oh but Shulk/Fiora is cute too! i still like them together! i only like Shulk/Melia in a close friends kind of way, or just to make Melia happy idc about the ship i just like seeing her smile!" so like... What reality do these other guys live in where they got bombarded with Shulkelia over and over because I wish I lived in it!!! Something's up with some Fiora fans idk. Maybe I just had back luck in my searching, but try it yourself and see. I'm not crazy or making this up, I could just have been seeing all 20 or whatever number of Shiora's rude fans but... they do exist, and I have yet to see similar behavior from Shulkelia fans.

And this isn't all just me being a lurker looking at rando's comments as well. I even have a bit of a secondhand-experience story to tell about it! (The specific timeline of the initial details might be jumbled a bit, but I do remember the gist of it and still have the DMs to confirm some of the facts!)

I used to be active on Twitter, and I followed a lot of different Xenoblade fan artists on there. One day a certain artist posted a WIP of Melia and Shulk laying next to each other on a hill where Shulk was smiling at her, and although the artist deleted it (for reasons you will soon learn about) I think they wrote the Japanese ship name of the two on the tweet for it. Either way, I do recall before the WIP was posted they tweeted about liking Shulkelia, or rather ShuMeri as the Japanese ship name is called, (although in much the same "i like Melia so i like the thought of her being happy. Shulk belongs with Fiora though! i still ship them!" please-don't-be-mad-at-me way that I have never seen a Fiora/Shiora fan do) and wanting to draw something for it. Even though this particular artist posted in Japanese, a language I don't know 99% of, I was able to get the gist of their tweets through the translation feature and my knowledge of what the characters' names are in Japanese. And despite how hard this artist tried to be nice, tried to show how much they weren't trying to be mean to Shiora fans (they even had drawn Shiora art months earlier!), they got a wave of hate directed at them from Japanese fans which I saw in real time.

And if you doubt this because the tweets are now deleted, and because even when they were up I only read them through an A.I. translation, I felt so bad for this poor artist that I DM-ed them (regrettably in English, since I didn't trust my knowledge of Japanese to not end up making me say something I didn't intend or in a rude/informal tone) to show there was at least one other person out there that enjoyed ShuMeri and was excited to see their art. And they fortunately understood my message and knew English to message me back and told me direct quotes of what was thrown at them, which I still have in my DMs and will quote:

"'You are denying the original story. It's too unsatisfying and ugly' 'It's not right to make Shulk and Melia lovers.' someone said. At other times, people have replied to my art, complaining about Melia's behavior in the story, as I tweeted the other day. I've had a lot of negative comments about ShuMeri and Melia." (With regards to the whole "complaining about Melia's behavior in the story" thing, if I recall that was from people saying she had no right to have a crush on Shulk in the first place, which... I thought you guys said canon is sacrosanct? It is canon that Melia had a crush on Shulk, and if you don't like that then you don't respect the canon/story and aren't a real fan. Do you see how silly this sounds???)

So. Tell me if you have ever seen any Melia fans or Shulkelia fans ever behave like this. Because I sure haven't. (Like even this ask [which I am not upset about nor trying to be rude to the anon at all, on the contrary I'm super enjoying talking about this topic! it's just the dichotomy here is interesting to me!) is proof to me: how many times can you say you've seen comments on Shiora art or asks sent to Xenoblade fanblogs asking why someone doesn't like Shulkelia, do you hate Shulkelia, what's wrong with Shulkelia? Like I get one is canon and the other isn't, but like... have you seen shipping culture? Literally all of the most popular ships for any given media are non-canon, that's half the fun of shipping!!!

"Don't let mean fans sour the original work" (and again, just to make sure I'm clear, I do not consider the anon who sent this ask to be mean or rude in any way! I'm referring to other randos here!) and all that, but it's kind of hard for me to like a ship when it has fans that act like this... going around projecting by accusing fans of a different ship of their own behavior, or saying things that contradict their own points about how important canon is to them. Thinking back on how we like characters we can relate to, isn't it interesting how fans of a brash, headstrong, do-what-I-want-and-fuck-the-consequences character who gets everything she wants in canon act in a pushy or even rude way to fans of a reserved, self-reproaching, I-will-do-what-is-best-for-others-first character who has so much taken away from her, and the latter fans always defer to the former and feel guilty when they talk about liking their character even as they do so much to be nice to them? It's pretty interesting I think, it's like when dogs look like their owners or something haha.

To end this off, since even though I have more to say (which if you would like to hear please let me know!) I've talked for far too long now haha, I really want to post the rest of the DM that the artist I talked to (who to this day hasn't made another Shulkelia/Shulkelia-esque fanart again, and interestingly never gets hate on their Shalvis art which is again a non-canon "story-denying" ship, too. Maybe they just blocked the rude people and if so good for them, but it's interesting still that they haven't draw Shulkelia since):

"I think it's useless to argue about who is better, Fiora or Melia, and I don't want them to get me involved in that fight. However, I received words of encouragement from many kind followers like you. I now understand important things; 'Don't worry about mean people' and 'Draw what I like.' Fan art should be free, shouldn't it? If I draw ShuMeri, some mean people might appear again. But there are many more kind people like you. When I think of that, I'm not afraid anymore. I will try to draw ShuMeri one day. Maybe I'll get depressed again because of mean people, but then you can tell me, 'You draw fanart freely, right!'... Please tell me that. You made me feel better and made me cry with happiness. Thank you so much. :)"

Alright so I got some splain'n to do.

I have had the login info for this page for the past year. I have known I have had the login information for the past year. I have not used the login information in the past year.

And I'm gonna be honest that's just been to a complete and utter lack of wanting to write anything on Tumblr at all.

And then I started an IRLPokemon blog. And for some reason did not use this blog to be the main blog for that. Probably because I realized if I did, I would never actually use it.

But now, I have a new computer, and one that has only one browser installed. And that browser only has this Tumblr account linked to it.

I may be turning 22 this year, but I don't think it's too late to get back into this.

However... There's some changes.

More than a few of my sideblogs, I never use. I have never used them, and I have no real desire to use them. To be frank they were just there because I Started writing the characters in an RP server on Discord, and I never actually considered writing them on Tumblr outside of "new blog go brrr."

Because of this, I will be doing some pruning.

This is the state of all my current blogs.

grim-grinner, mini-manakete, fer-ma-fer-glory, and loving-nightmare are defunct as of today. I still write them, but they're all connected to my Heroes Summoner already, so having their own blogs makes little sense. Henry, Nowi, Donnel, and Freyja will be moved over to gun-summoner, where they belong.

monado-iii is, if I'm being honest, an extreme roadblock to actually getting back into writing on Tumblr. I don't write Shulk near as much as I used to. I grew to love the character, yes, but it is always in the back of my head that the only reason I wrote him to begin with is that there was no one in the Smash RP community writing him and I was just filling a gap. This blog will be archived. If I feel the muse for him again off of discord, I will bring him back, but he is not a priority as of right now.

My "Laytonverse" blogs look-at-my-badge, rhythm-king, and no-puzzle-unsolved will be consolidated just under one blog. Given that look-at-my-badge is the only one that actually has any writing on it, that will be the blog that Layton and Raphael are moving to. The blog's name will be changed to reflect this, but I don't know what I will change it to.

duwang--gang, txtris-king, redmont-ranger, pxinted-hero, and dash-and-slash are defunct as of today. There are reasons for all of these.

I don't write Okuyasu, Koichi, Rohan, or Jotaro. The only Jojo characters I actually write are Josuke (rarely) and Jonathan (even more rarely). So the name already makes no sense. It's also gone unused since 2020, so it's not like it's gonna be missed.

I write Tee very rarely, and if I'm being honest there is like, no Puyo Puyo RP Scene I can find.

Will is a very passive character, so him having his own RP blog makes no sense. Also, there is literally no Ranger's Apprentice RP scene out there, and trying to get people to interact with a book character in general, much less a YA protag, is a Sisyphean task.

I don't really write Link on Discord anymore, much less Tumblr. He's like, a nonary muse at best now.

I have not seriously used Specter Knight as a muse since before this became a hub blog instead of an RP blog, which I wasn't even out of high school. No one is going to miss him.

OC Crew time!

My OC blogs are children-of-valm, wyverntribe, redeemed-professor, gun-summoner, yiga-banana, and mxdern-mage, and I have... things to say here.

children-of-valm will stay. It is a blog with characters near and dear to my heart, as all of these characters (sans the canon ones obviously) were created by both myself and my now-girlfriend. So I will not be removing this blog.

WyvernTribe is in the same boat, though without the "Girlfriend helped make her" part. Erix is a character I have strong passion in writing. The one thing keeping her from being moved to another blog to cut down on blog space is because her story doesn't really work with either Kiran or the Awakening muses.

Byleth... I don't know how I will handle him. His blog will stay for now, if only because he's an actually original take on the character, at least compared to the game.

Kiran will stay. Obviously. I need him to host the other FE blogs, he couldn't go even if he wanted to. Man's one of my primary muses.

Sasha, my Yiga OC, is on thin ice. The person I wrote my Yiga Shenanigans with has since deactivated, and she's got a very tight-knit Yiga Clan to work with made with myself and some friends. So I will have her blog archived, on the chance that an opportunity presents itself to actually let her be used again.

Kyla... Kyla... I do not know about Kyla. She was once one of my main muses, back when I was a kid and didn't have the confidence to write characters that had canon personalities. She's been with me my entire RPing journey, even before I had a Tumblr account, much less this Tumblr account. So there is a large part of me that does not want to let her go. But at the same time... I know that she's evolved far past how she is here. She's evolved so many times over the years, it's hard to go back to how she used to be. She's gone from an Undertale OC, to a general OC, to now being a party member in a story for a game I hopefully will get to make one day, with an entire character arc from there. I think for Kyla... The best option is for her to be retired. As a character, she just does not match who she once was, and if she's going to experience this volatile of a change between her interpretations I can't justify keeping her on an RP blog, especially not one to herself. It's not fair to me, and it's not fair to writing partners.

Now. Those of you who know how many damn blogs I have know that this isn't every blog I have. I still have yet to mention Steve, the Mega Man Killers, Shantae, or Kaladin. Well, I will now mention Steve, The Mega Man Killers, Shantae, and Kaladin.

Steve, over at @rocks-the-block, will stay. I will not back out of my promise just because I need to do some trimming. Steve's a riot to write, and he's my sole Tumblr-exclusive muse. Not to mention due to his mostly lighthearted nature, he's extremely easy to write asks as.

Shantae, over at @halfgeniefullhero, is also staying. She's one of my personal favorite characters to write, but she's a bit more high energy than some of the others.

The Mega Man Killers Enker, Ballade, and Punk over at @mega-man-hunters will be staying, but will remain low activity. To be honest I have no idea what the Mega Man RP community is like anymore due to my extended hiatus, so I need to stay back a bit, and actually watch and see before throwing them in again.

Kaladin, over at @stormblessedknight, is not only staying, he will be getting friends. Turns out I like writing a lot more Cosmere characters than just our eternally depressed bridgeboy. Who knew reading the rest of the books would make me want to write more characters from the books? I will reveal those characters at a later date, but just know that among them, there is at least one Mistborn character, and at least one Elantris character. Unlike Will, I do not care that there is next to no Stormlight RP scene. I will make one if I have to. They're also open to Multiverse shenanigans!

Daily VGM #100: A long journey

So, 100 days of this, and a little over 100 posts. What a wild ride. I know I've been slacking the past few days, almost missed some posts, straight up DID miss some. But I wanna celebrate that!

...By talking about Xenoblade again. I know, it's my whole personality, bear with me here.

I know I already talked about Xenoblade 1's Main Theme but I want to bring it back to reiterate, this soundtrack changed my life. Like, Xenoblade originally came out at a time where I really couldn't play it. I didn't have money to buy my own Wii games, and sure as heck didn't know anything about games past the MySims, Kirby and Mario series. I learned about it years later when Chuggaaconroy played it, and then it soon enough got re-released on WiiU, and subsequently 3Ds where I played it for the first time and fell so deeply in love. The world, the music, the strong message of working together that permeated not only the story but also the gameplay. I revisit the main theme whenever I want to cry, and the title screen as well is just beautiful. It's the background of this blog if you didn't know by now, for some reason.

From one emotional rollercoaster of a song to another, but a lot more intense, Engage the Enemy. This is one of THE songs of Xenoblade, and one you probably know at this point. A lot of folks say they prefer the original soundtrack of Xenoblade 1 over the remaster, but very consistently I hear that, yeah no this is the definitive version of Engage the Enemy. The opera singer going absolutely crazy, the violinists doing their usual Xenoblade thing, and the electric gutair coming in at the absolute best times to crank the mood to 11. It gets you hyped, it gets you angry, it gets you scared. You even get to transition into battle with this song a couple times, it feels so good.

Shulk and Fiora. A song that surprisingly doesn't play a lot when involving Shulk and Fiora, more Shulk and Melia. It's still a really somber and sweet song regardless, it feels so loving, but also incredibly.. Sad, like a crying out almost. Same with Thoughts Enshrined. Though the latter is much more somber than the former. I love the singers in the soundtrack, they really add to every song they're in.

Xenoblade also has a day/night system, where time will pass in.. Well, real time, with dynamic weather, the kind of enemies that appear, and especially dynamic music. For example, Colony 9 and its night variant. While Colony 9 during the day exudes the excitement to explore, the nighttime variant is much more mellow, like everyone, even the monsters are turning in and wanting to have a calm and peaceful night. Gaur Plain, and its night variation as well. Gaur Plain showing off just how vast it is, it feels so unnatural to have so much open space.. But at night it feels a lot like Colony 9's theme too, letting you know that you're still not too far from home. Valak Mountain, sounding majestic, but also foreboding. While at night, the light beacons reveal themselves, letting you see the true beauty of this sheer drop of a mountain, and The Fallen Land, sounding as if it's a lyricless song about someone who was left behind and forgotten, when it turns to night sounding as if they've accepted that they have been forgotten.

Basically.. Yeah. I love Xenoblade Chronicles and its soundtrack. It changed me as a person, and is part of why I love music so much now. I cannot thank the composers of this series enough for making something that has made me so happy. It's been life changing, and I'm glad I could take you all on this journey with me. Thank you for accompanying me for 100 daily posts.

Spring Smash Seminar Q&A

I’m going to go ahead and answer questions (that I HAVE received) about the event here for a more indepth understanding, since the other post is a bit lacking in clarity.

Q: How many muses can I enter in this?

One mun may have 4 muses enter.

Q: Can I have some muses from my multi and a muse from my singular muse blog join?

Yes. For example, you could have two from the multi and then the muse from your singular blog. Again, it’s 4 muses per 1 mun.

Q: What days is it on?

The event is scheduled from March 28th to April 1st. The event is annual.

Q: How do I participate?

All you have to do is visit the linked Shindan I post at 9am (MST), then post your screencapped results (preferably with a little in character blurb) publicly. I stop taking entries at 12am (MST) so that way I can queue up the next day’s results with the winners of that particular day’s games.

Q: What if my muse wouldn’t want to participate / can’t participate?

Then don’t.

Q: What’s a Shindan?

Here’s an example of one.

Q: Is it okay if I join late?

Yes. Just do the Shindan of the day that you join.

Q: I’m already participating but I want to have a new muse from another blog join. Is it okay if they join late?

Yes. Again, just do the Shindan of the day that they join.

Q: Is it okay if I only do one day or two days of the event?

Yes. This event is low-stress, low-effort, and just for four days. If you can’t make it to them, it’s not a big deal.

Q: Do I do the previous Shindans too?

No. This is because the Shindans are set to have a different result every day, and in character, the rewards already have been handed out.

Q: Is it okay to join if I don’t have a smash bros verse / smash bros related character?

Yes.

Q: Is it okay to join even if we aren’t mutuals / I don’t follow you?

Yes. Just post in the springsmashseminar tag or DM your results to me so I’m sure to see them.

Q: Should I make my own event tag for this?

I don’t mind, just so long as the tracked tag, springsmashseminar, is also tagged so I can see your results.

Q: How do I see other people’s scores?

I post up a ‘leaderboard’ of the scores on the first day, and document everyone’s there.

Q: My score isn’t on the leaderboard, why?

Because I haven’t seen it. To ensure I do, you should DM the post to me.

Q: What if I tie with someone?

If you tie with someone, you and the other person will be contacted to do a tiebreaker. These results must also be posted publicly, and before 12am my time (MST).

Q: How much should I write for this?

This is just a fun and silly event. Don’t feel obligated to write a million words just for one result. You can one-line, you can purple prose, do whatever you want. Just don’t feel obligated to hold up posting your results just because you haven’t made three paragraphs worth of indepth character narration.

Q: What do I do if I double with someone?

If a double has appeared, the person who has done their results second will be asked to change their character’s name. This is because Shindans are name-based RNG systems, and we can’t have two people getting the same results.

For example, in 2021, we had two Shulk’s enter. The person who did their Shindans second was asked to add more onto the name of their Shulk so their results could be different.

Q: Can I change my character’s name mid-event?

No. Whatever you picked for the character’s first Shindan must be kept throughout the entirety of the event, omitting someone doubles.

Q: What if my character is a duo package?

If you have a character like Banjo & Kazooie, who fight together or are always together, you can have them act as a team. This just means entering their name into the Shindan as ‘Banjo & Kazooie’. This counts as one entry, despite being technically two muses. You can also have them compete separately, but that’s up to you to decide because I don’t mind either way.

This is a special rule only for duo characters.

Q: What’s the point of me doing the Shindan when someone else has already gotten a perfect score?

You could get a perfect score too. This is all RNG. If you don’t take the chance then your chance of losing is going to be 100%.

Q: Other people are doing tiebreakers right now! Does that mean I missed that day’s event?

No. You only miss the day’s event if it’s past 12am my time (MST). You can still participate to see if you get a tie-worthy score too. This is all RNG. I call for a tiebreaker as soon as I see them so that way everyone who tied still probably has a chance to be online and able to participate.

Name of your favorite muse: Thats a toughie aaaaa! I suppose the one I feel the most unbridled joy towards is Shovel Knight. Pit, Shulk, and Bendy are very sentimental muses who got me through tough times (Suicidality, Gender Dysphoria, and Parental Dependence respectively), so they’re very important to me. and I genuinely do like playing Felix often because he’s flexible while also easily getting along with other muses.

Name of your very first muse: Sonic the hedgehog was my pen-and-paper or dream based muse, he’s not currently on the blog but will probably come back.

Name of your meanest muse(s): Shopkeeper was meant to be based on ‘the cynicism of a tortured writer’ in canon, so they’re played like that here, definitely making them the meanest, and intentionally so since they don’t want people close. Magnus and Bendy are also morally reprehensible at times, while their mannerisms and intentions are polite and good; murder is on the table if you’re an awful person for them, but it’s not a hobby they just do for fun (except for Bad End Bendy but we don’t rlly talk abt that)

Name of your nicest muse(s): Felix is the nicest, with Ninja at a close second, followed by Pit and Frisk. Felix wins out because he is a pacifist, and forgiving at that. Possibly to his detriment (sometimes to his mental health), but he’s actually capable of reasoning with bad guys and villains; I’ve had muns get shocked of how much their muse actually likes him. Ninja is very loving and affectionate, although not forgiving easily once things are established as awful bunts him down. Pit’s similar, though his affections are louder as is his resentments. Frisk is as nice as Felix is because he’s their role model, but they get bumped down because they’re impressionable and didn’t build their own personality per sé, and might not have been capable of forgiving on their own pre-game.

Name of your most troubled muse: Bendy and Felix have the most trauma, while Shopkeeper and Samus have the shittiest situations. Honorable mention goes to Blanque, whose situations sucks for him, but it’s also safe and he’s not excessively bothered, just perturbed.

Character you have the most muse for atm: Seems to be Denise and Shulk along with Felix. idk i’ve been going through an awful ‘validation-as-motivation’ phase yet again

Two of your muses that would never get along: Magnus and Candyman do not get along, because Magnus finds Candyman’s fuckboi-ish ways rather rude. to be honest, Magnus would piss off most of my muses, because they’re all protective, but he barely goes out on top of that. Bendy has similar issues when his trauma bubbles up, but it’s not typically permanent.

Two of your muses that could be best friends: Pit and Shulk are best friends despite the latter being shy, Fiora is also still best friends with Shulk. Felix has the most in common with Pit and Shovel Knight (as well as Link though he’s not on here atm)

Two of your muses that would make a cute couple: there’s an entire page for this for Felix, lmao. that said.... idk, the only other one I can think of is the fact that Blanque has an possibility in his canon to pair up with Poff, one of Felix’s alternates, so Blanque x Felix is definitely possible, just hasn’t been explored. Pit and Fiora would also be really cute! I’d also ship Pit x Samus if my Samus weren’t a lesbian, in fact i got really close to doing so when getting into Samus’s muse.

Two of your muses that are most similar: this one’s a hard sell, a lot of em are similar, But Felix, Blanque, and Frisk have the same......vibe? like a generic, adventurer-protagonist, open minded, stare off into space vibe, though in that order each have more emotional autonomy. Fiora, Opal, and Denise kinda have similar vibes, though their flaws sit differently.

Name of the muse you’d be best friends with irl: idk most of my muse’s creations outside of my own OCs are the concept of ‘hey dummy you’re loved/liked’ but like idk likely Pit. but yea my muses tend to pick me rather than the other way around, I just logic out and decide their background (and body in the case of OCs) so i can speculate all i want but they’d all probably HELLO their way into my life.

Name of the muse you’d probably hate irl: Probably Naomi because I’m critical of people being nice more IRL, she’s just kind of an asshole scientist until you get to know her.

What is your otp for your character?

UHHH couldn’t really tell ya as I don’t really know??? I have a lot of Mac ships I just don’t have a favourite lool

What are you willing to write when it comes to shipping?

Fluff & slice-of-life would probaaaably be my main focus with shipping. Angst etc is also okay. I don’t really care for slowburn stuff (i’ve a short attention span sorry) so I don’t mind skipping right to the action, but keep in mind Mac’s kind of oblivious so might not really catch on for sometime lol

How large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?

Mako’s 17, turning 18 this September (it’ll be the only canon birthday for this blog). So lowest I’d go is probably 16, and highest 18 - 19

Are you selective when shipping?

Not really, but I do have some lines drawn, and a couple of ‘no, absolutely not’ stuff here and there

How far do steamy moments have to go before they are considered N/S/F/W?

I’d probably never get that far, bcuz I don’t plan on smutting with any of my characters (and not Mako, ever, bcuz they’re always gonna be 17 canonically and I’m not gonna be cool pushing that). but contact/touching beyond a certain context, even if it’s only suggestive

Hello and welcome. I am Ken, Xenoblade 1 fan and painfully unfunny Tumblr blogger. Mobile Rules List

Here is a list of my rules for mobile users

My name is Shelby Lynn, but, I tend to go by Shell, as it tends to be a lot easier to spell a five letter word compared to my ten letter name. I am currently a Junior in my college and I have been roleplaying since I was about.. ten years old. So.. Eleven years under my belt? I want to say this now, it doesn’t mean I don’t make mistakes.

My blog is selective for only one real reason. I have been hurt by several previous partners and I want to keep myself from feeling hurt again. I will not reveal their names, though, as I’m the kind of person who just wants to end the chain of anger and violence as best as she can.

Note: I want all of my followers to know that none of them are these people, as I have them blocked for good reasons.

I do have rules for this blog, other than the more well known one like no powerplaying or godmodding. Even if you thinking of replying with something questionable, talk to your partner about it. They will most likely tell you what they think.

Another rule is not to pester me for threads or shipping. I happen to have social anxiety and the more people pester me, the more I feel nervous about even roleplaying. Just please wait for a response. This blog is selective and I do not mean any hard feelings for it.

However, if I take more than a week to reply, please give me a heads up. I may have forgotten to reply.

Everything in this blog requires development, so, please understand this for shipping.

Do not naturally assume my muse will know your’s, unless they are in the same game. For example, Shulk from Xenoblade Chronicles wouldn’t know Kouichi from Digimon Frontier. However, he would know Link from Legend of Zelda as they are both in Super Smash Bros. This is especially true with my original characters.

The only exception to this is fankids, as if they are related in someway, my muses will know them.

I will do my best to tag any and all triggers. If you have specific ones, do message me for it.

You MUST tag any pictures of grasshoppers and locusts. I have selective orthopterophobia and, while katydids and crickets do not trigger anything, grasshoppers and locusts can and will trigger an anxiety attack. A more formal commissions list

Since that other post is a bit... Yeah... I’m making a formal commissions list.

I will make:

Sigils for pride/identity as well as more standard ones. I have currently only made “simple” sigils (single word) but I will make a complex one upon request.

Homestuck talksprites (either a singular static one, some “frames” which make up a sprite deck and can be made into an animation by yourself or someone else, or a single-emotion animation loop in gif format)

Please be aware if you send an ask saying you want a commission, you need to be OFF ANON.

Things I will NOT do (sigils):

Any anti-anything words or phrases, such as: cisbian, gendercritical, TERF, tucute, truscum, anti-cis, DWC, or similar hatephrases aimed at ANY group of people, including “punch nazis” type ideology. I do not wish to be taken down for hatespeech so I support it in no capacity. This includes any kind of homo/trans/bi/etc-phobia, racist, cis/exor/etc-sexist terminology. Slurs are acceptable if used as reclamation.

Kink pride (including CGL*) - EXCEPT for those interconnected with LGBT pride history, like Leather pride.

Any joke suggestions, such as an anti-MOGAI blog requesting a MOGAI type identity, or a non-serious looking blog requesting something used as a meme (like “Gay Shrek pride please!”, “Bi Barry B. Benson!”, etc.)

No “protect me from hate towards <thing listed above>”. That circumvents my entire reason for having them there.

Kin sigils without pride/identity or an affirmation. “Grey-sexual Panromantic Shulk please!” or “Please help me to remember my life as Dave Maryam!” is okay, whereas “I would like a sigil for Kenny from South Park” or “Could I get a Edward Buck sigil?” do not make sense.

Sigils require an affirmation. Pride sigils are made by creating a sigil which creates pride for <your identity here> in you and gives you protection related to your identity in your life. Having a sigil for any random thing isn’t possible and doesn’t make sense. There has to be a meaning behind it..

( * SFW age regression as a mental health coping strategy does not fall under CGL, but I am not doing coping methods anyway as they do not make sense, so if you request this, I will not do it. And no, “a sigil for protecting me against people who hate SFW age regression”, doesn’t count.)

Things I will NOT do (talksprites):

The canon characters without any edits whatsoever, mostly because my style isn’t very developed and looks very similar to the canon style. I also will not do Hiveswap talksprites unless they are non-canon types (eg: bloodswaps)

“<character> with a down with cis/punch nazis/gender critical/TERF(/TERF is a slur)/etc shirt!!!” for the same reason as the first point above.

Heavy gore or lots of animated blood (open wounds, dripping down face, etc) - only because I suck at drawing gore, not because I can’t handle it.

Fancharacters (eg: not swapped characters) or non-canon kinnies without at least one visual guide. You can provide one photo and lots of description, but I need at least one visual in regards to colour scheme OR physical design.

Walksprites, hivesprites or minisprites. I said talksprites for a reason! (Panel edits MAYBE if you ask nicely.)

If you have a complaint, talk to me. We could work something out if it is just a misunderstanding (i suck at writing words in the way i mean to).

Prices are £5 for simple sigils, £7 for complex sigils, and I’m yet to price talksprites (likely £5 for single static emotion, +£2 per extra frame, +£2 for each animation loop from a sprite deck, depends how long I take to make them - I’m going to trial myself and I’ll have a definite answer by the end of today... hopefully). There will be a +£1.50 charge if you do not want me to publish the final versions to my blog. I will place a watermark on these, however. Crop it out, and you will need to credit me somewhere else (bio, about page -- really it depends where you use it). Regardless of if you let me post it to my own blog, you will receive them through Tumblr DM or email - your choice.

Payments can be done through Paypal, or I can set up a private Etsy listing, which will be an additional £0.20 + 4% of the total cost to cover Etsy fees..

I’m willing to try other kinds of drawings, as well as OC frameworking, but you must contact me for details on this as it will be case-by-case.

Ever get the feeling that time is passing by and you can’t do anything about it?

I’m going through that right now.

For context, I joined the RP Scene back before Smash Ultimate released. Heck, I joined before Smash Ultimate was even *announced,* on July 25th, 2017, writing with an Ask Apollo Justice account until they left Tumblr. Back then, the account was named “The Meme in My Meme,” as I wasn’t really taking things seriously and just made the blog for one singular thread. Soon, though, I rebranded to Stage Select, and in September of 2018, I moved to this blog here. The Smash RP scene was very different back then, though. Most of the people who I wrote with back then are long gone. Riksu (Wrote Dark Pit and Young Link under darkdarkeryetdarkpit and kokiriswordhero respectively), Mikey (Wrote Leaf), Blue (Wrote Little Mac at liitlemac among others), if I unfollowed anyone who hasn’t posted anything in the past 150 days, I would only be following 258 of the 499 blogs in the list, just over half. And most of those are either really close to the 150 day arbitrary number, or are several blogs run by the same person. If I dropped that down to 100, most of the blogs on the follow list would be *gone.*

I was scrolling through this blog just to look through things, and I got hit with a wave of... wistful notstalgia, I guess. I still remember some of the great times back then. Viridi kicking off the new year with a reset bomb-shaped firework, Waluigi making Olimar think Santa was some sort of monster and nearly ruining Christmas for the mansion kids, that huge war Dr Wily started where my fandomless character actually got some time to shine before she got tossed in a box gathering dust, Joker breaking Pit’s *spine* and people getting on his case about it, Shulk and Simon just... discussing the Monado, these were the kind of threads we did back then, and they were *great!* Tons of people across several blogs interacting with each other, these were flat out *events* that just sprung up out of nowhere! Anyone remember that huge event where fearless2ndmate’s Link was flat out kidnapped by his parents, and multiple different blogs pledged their support to help him out? Or the Secret Santa in 2018? Or the Picori Festival, that was a yearly thing, did we even *have* one this year? What happened to all these events? Like, I’ve seen some events like that cruise ship thing from a while ago, but they seem few and far between compared to back then.

I dunno, it just... seems like I’m a relic from a bygone age at this point. I dunno if I even *want* to dive back into the fray, everyone on the scene I don’t really know that well. I *say* I’m semi- or non-selective on my blogs, but I only really ever write with friends because I just *don’t know* anyone anymore and I’m afraid of actually putting myself out there at this point.

I dunno, these are just my ramblings at 3 in the morning, I doubt too many people are gonna read through all this (I wouldn’t blame them, it’s pretty long for an OOC post) but it’s just... where did the time go?

New Smash means new characters. And these Echo Fighters have some potential going for them. Here are a few on my end. Send me an ask in my Mod Blog with your suggestions and we can do a part 2.

First some rules.

No Characters with Echo Fighters already (No point in thinking about those that exist)

No Characters who have Fighters that share a move set (Dr. Mario and Falco may not be considered Echo Fighters, but they are the Ken to Mario and Fox’s Ryu.)

No Characters with alternate skins (they’re essentially Echo Characters who share the same spot)

Echos have to come from the same game unless exceptions (Fire Emblem has multiple Characters who could fight similarly to one another. Can you name someone else besides Mr. Game and Watch?

No Echos of Echos or Kens. (So don’t expect to see Luigi’s Echo).

Donkey Kong

The Big Ape that everyone loves. But because of his unique size and how varied his cast of characters can be, there are not many options for that. But I have two suggestions that could do the trick.

Funky Kong - He is already an Echo Character in Tropical Freeze. Use the surfboard instead of the DK Helicopter and you are pretty much done.

Classic Donkey Kong - He’ll be just Donkey Kong, only with his original look and original sounds. And in 3D. How cool would that be?

Samus

I know Dark Samus is a popular choice, but I can see that thing with its own move set. But if you want characters who play similarly to Samus but with some slight variations...

Metroid Hunters - As far as I know, the Hunters play similarly to Samus minus a few things here or there. Any one of them could be a clone or even have the Bowser Jr./Koopalings Treatment and have them all occupy the same character.

Kirby

He is going to be very difficult since I doubt anyone could really match Kirby. Bandanna Waddle Dee certainly can’t. But I think the closest would be another Player 2...

Gooey - In Kirby’s Dream Land 3, he plays just like Kirby. Just don’t make him copy enemy powers and boom.

Jigglypuff

The Balloon Pokemon. Honestly, there is only one choice for this one’s echo fighter...

Wigglytuff - Make it heavier hitting, less float-y, slower, and rest becomes a counter (because why not) and you got a Wigglytuff.

Bowser

Bowser is a tough one to figure out since a lot of who could it be can be easier as skins than their own characters (Dry Bowser and Rookie). But since no other character can fit Bowser, one of them will get an upgrade.

Dry Bowser - He has appeared on its own despite Bowser being alive and well.

Ice Climbers

This one is tricky since there isn’t many other characters in that series. But I think I have a more left field idea for a Echo Fighter...

Ice Climber - Basically just a single player version of them. Same moves as the original, only with a better recovery move that doesn’t require a partner.

Shiek

I think there is only one obvious choice for this...

Impa - She taught Zelda to become Shiek. Only fair to make her play like her.

Zelda

Zelda is going to be more tricky. Since I am not into the series as others, my choice may most likely be way out there.

Midna - No Imp form for her. Her actions maybe closer to how Zelda is in 4 than how she is in Ultimate.

Mewtwo

The Clone Pokemon. Not many Pokemon can be like Mewtwo. But I have two possible choices for them.

Shadow Mewtwo - We have Dark Pit, why not Shadow Mewtwo?

Mr Game and Watch

Now this is a tough thing to come up with. Its already basically every character in the franchise now. So for this one, we have to look outside. And the only other character I can think of to be a Echo Fighter...

Joy Mech Fight - You’ve seen one of them as an assist trophy in the new game (Sukapon). Have the character change into one of the Robots when doing moves and you have essentially an Echo for Mr. Game and Watch.

Meta Knight

There’s only one real choice.

Galacta Knight - Its like Meta Knight, only it is considered the Greatest Warrior in the Galaxy.

King Dedede

Masked Dedede was already in the game as a Final Smash. Let’s see who could match the King...

Clone Dedede - When in doubt, Evil versions.

Zero Suit Samus

Now this is going to be tricky. And my choice is more likely a more unique character, or at least a combination of the two...

Fusion Armor Samus - I could see it as a combination of the agility of the Zero Suit (probably slower and heavier) with the power of the original suit. But again, it sounds more like a more unique character than a true Echo.

Wario

It keeps getting harder and harder. Wario is so unique and Waluigi is definitely not Echo Fighter worthy to be Wario. But I think I found someone who can fit the bill.

The Shake King - His build is pretty close to Wario and they could always shrink him down like Ridley. And a lot of his moves can look more Pirate theme than Wario themed.

Snake

Lots of obvious choices. So I’m just going to pick four.

Big Boss/Liquid Snake/Venom Snake - Snake is a clone of Big Boss, Liquid is his brother, and Venom Snake was made to be a fake Big Boss.

Raiden - Raiden was made to replace Snake in Part 2. And He was made into a cyborg in Part 4. Imagine what would happen if Smash brought the classic Raiden while PSASBR has the Cyborg, imagine how that would sting.

Ike

Honestly, I don’t follow Fire Emblem. So my pick maybe weird to those who do.

Hector - Make his sword into an axe, remove the fire effects. And boom.

Pokemon Trainer

In this case, its going to be tricky since this is pretty much three different characters. So there is only one logical outcome.

Another Pokemon Trainer with different starter Pokemon - Which ones I don’t know, but this is the most logical step.

Diddy Kong

I know a lot of people are thinking Dixie Kong to be the clone, but as you see in the games she has a lot more uniqueness. Instead, I’m thinking a Kong who has been missing for a long time...

Donkey Kong Jr - Diddy was originally made to be DKJr but redesigned. Maybe give him a shot.

Sonic

This is so obvious I’m pretty sure you know who it is before I even...

Shadow

Lucario

Not into Pokemon like others, but there is one person I think could be a good Echo...

Blaziken - Its a fighting type like Lucario. And changing the effects from Aura to fire sounds simple.

R.O.B.

R.O.B. is an accessory, not a game series. But he is associated with a character...

Professor Hector - He is the character in all the R.O.B. Games. He could have a jetpack and weaponry to simulate R.O.B.’s moves.

Villager

Animal Crossing does have a lot of characters to choose from. But I think one of them has the best chance.

Isabelle - She pretty much is the mascot of Animal Crossing.

Mega Man

You know who it is going to be...

Proto Man

Rosalina and Luma

This is going to be tricky since I doubt a lot of characters can match her. Luckily Wario is technically part of the Mario universe...

Ashley and Red - She’s a witch so she could in theory mimic Rosalina’s abilities. And I bet Red is more abused than Lumas.

Greninja

Again, not into Pokemon that well. So for now I’m gonna skip it. Hopefully you guys can come up with something better.

Mii Fighter

They’re basically all Echo Fighters to each other.

Palutena, Robin, Shulk, Duck Hunt Dog and Corrin

These people would be tricky for me to figure out. So I’m saving them for part 2.

Pacman

Obvious choice is obvious.

Mrs. Pacman - While the original Packer is the household name, it was the Misses that made him so.

Ryu

Even though Akuma and Evil Ryu are good ideas, there is only logical choice.

Ken - He was an Echo Fighter before they were even a thing. Change a few attributes here and there and make his Final Smash both versions of his Super Dragon Punch. Vertical for just the Final Smash and Horizontal for holding forward.

Cloud

There is only one choice for Cloud’s Echo Fighter.

Zack - There would be no Cloud (in so many ways) without Zack.

Bayonetta

Another obvious choice.

Jeanne - A fellow Umbra Witch. Nuff said.

Inkling and Ridley

To me, they’re too new to get Echo Fighters. While others have some neat ideas, I’ll say no for now.
