Pitch Manor Progress (which is sort of like Six Sentence Sunday but also not)
It's still Sunday for five more minutes, here. SO....
Okay, I haven't written anything on the Haunting of Simon Snow in awhile. But I have been working on my floor plan for Pitch Manor, which is more than tangentially related to the potential progress of that fic. And today's a rough one for me, so I'm going to post about it like it's progress so I might feel a tad better. Ahem.
OKAY. SO. I've been working on a floor plan for Pitch Manor for... pretty much forever and a day. I ran into trouble when I was writing chapter 2 of Haunting and Simon (Construction Worker!Simon) began to describe the house. I realized... I had no idea what he was describing.
(Warning, there is a long winded geeky ramble ahead. It's just how I do things. Ahem.)
What was supposed to be a quick "let's find a floor plan that I can just copy with some minor adjustments" project has since turned into my special interest project. As a history nerd, that means a lot of research, looking at dozens of floor plans for other houses ranging in origination from the 16th century to the 20th (and probably a few older than even that, since a ton of religious buildings were repurposed into estates. Think Downton *Abbey*.)
But this past week, I feel I've really pushed through a lot of the issues I kept running into. (I've ridiculously been trying to make it as true to the descriptions in Carry On as possible, and something that fits the purposes of my fic, which of course I have envisioned in many, sometimes incompatible, ways.) I've had to make some "this or that, you can't have both" choices, but I'm finally happy with the basic shape and layout.
Whew.
Just for funsies, here's a cross section snippet of my floor plan WIP. It's pretty messy still, but I'm still excited LOL
And (finally), instead of six sentences, I will instead offer you all six tidbits of information about Pitch Manor, as I've envisioned it:
There are four (4!) different sitting rooms. Because the aristocracy just loved their sitting rooms. (Parlor, Withdrawing room, Drawing room, and Reception/Receiving room.)
There is a ballroom. Try and stop me.
The original manor house was built in the 17th century, and has been refurbished and updated a few times.
The most extensive refurbishment happened in the 19th century, which is how it gained its current stylings. (Baz is a freaking troll and I love him for it. The most popular architectural style in the Victorian era was "Gothic Revival." "It's not Gothic; it's Victorian." Hah.)
Some rooms were added on during the Victorian refurbishment, including a Smoking room. They were very popular at that time.
The largest room in the house isn't the ballroom. It's the library. (It's two stories. Try and stop me.)
(I do hope to release the floorplans into the fandom wild after they're complete, in case anyone else wants to make use of them.)
I want to ramble more. But it's almost midnight. Sooo.... Gratitude and hellos under the cut!

Revised Thunderclan family tree for the Scrambled Rewrite, as of the start of The Prophecies Begin. I will not be updating this as I go (I will make new ones for each arc though). Underlined names are ocs, question marks represent cats that are either unknown to the clan or are unimportant and so I didn't come up with names for them. Described below the cut in case it's difficult to read/follow.
Moonflower and Stormtail's kits are Bluestar and Snowfur. The line for Bluestar's mate extends off the page. Snowfur's mate was Thistleclaw, their kit is Whitestorm. Whitestorm's mate is Willowpelt.
Thistleclaw's parents were Windflight and Poppydawn.
Willowpelt's parents were Foggyleap (oc) and an unknown tom. Her current mate is Whitestorm. Her previous mate is unknown, and their kit is Graypaw.
Amberwing (oc) and Applesnow (oc) were Brackenkit's parents. Brackenkit was adopted by Frostfur and Lionheart.
Lionheart's parents are Smallear and Speckletail. His mate is Frostfur. Their biological kits are Cinderkit, Thornkit, and Brightkit, and they adopted Brackenkit.
Frostfur's parents were Robinwing and Fuzzypelt.
Sandpaw's parents were Gingerstripe (oc) and Stoatclaw(oc).
Littlestripe (oc) and Acornscar (oc) had two kits: Longtail and Dustpaw.
Swiftbreeze and Adderfang were the parents of Spottedleaf, Redtail, Patchpelt, and Leopardfoot. Patchpelt and an unknown mate were the parents of Beetleflight (oc). Sweetpaw and Rosetail were siblings. Their parents are unknown. Rosetail and an unknown mate were the parents of Brindleface.

javier keeps expecting lloyd to come up w the plan first but like. sometimes that fails him and if he just says "hey there is no way i'm not fighting this threat what're you gonna do about it" he could just skip the "lloyd runs away, javier calls him a coward, lloyd doesn't see what's wrong w his actions, javier runs off to go fight the thing after giving his last words to lloyd to carry to the count and fam, lloyd reluctantly goes back to help javier" process.

i found the exact same silk quilt i currently have, but it's less worn AND red and IT WAS ONLY $80 im head over heels holy fuck i've been looking for a new one going on three years now.

What they don't tell you about losing a parent is that there is so so so so much to do
#speculation nation#my elder sister is gonna be executive of estate (once we get that sorted out bc we couldnt find his WILL)#so i thankfully wont have to deal with as much of the legal stuff#but im still gonna try to help out as much as possible#went through his papers yesterday and set up some preliminary stuff#gonna meet at the funeral home monday to arrange that. tuesday we're going to do some legal stuff for the will establishment#gonna have to take inventory of EVERY. SINGLE. THING. in his house. for tax purposes.#im gonna be inheriting a good amount of things probably. both a blessing and a curse#in that i didnt wanna fucking lose my father for it#but this is the hand we've been dealt and we're dealing with it.#i got excused from my last week of work Thank God so im hanging around longer than originally planned#gonna get my cats today. i fed them enough to last to today but that was when i thought id only be down for 2 days#no work to deal with now. i'll figure it out.#part of me's sad that it really ended just like that. didnt get to properly say goodbye to the store#but at the same time. my dad's death is so much more important. so i'll deal.#it was already gonna be a transitory time. but now it is INTENSELY so.#anyways thats why i havent been around much. i have quite a lot to do.

thinking about how wealth is relational, it cannot be understood or defined without understanding your relationship to others, and how this feeds perfectly into Marx’s three types of alienation, primarily the alienation of the worker from their fellow workers, as well as the concept of class consciousness.
if you ask someone if they are rich and they say “well it depends on what you mean by ‘rich.’ what is your criteria? how much do you make? what is the cost of living like? what kind of wealth are you measuring?” it sounds like they’re talking around the issue. They aren’t. You cannot even begin to comprehend your place in the world, your relationship to power—your class—without understanding the vast gulf between you and everyone around you and the billionaires of the world. everything else is a distraction designed to work in the billionaires’ favor.

It's gonna be 39C (102.2f) and we don't have an aircon fuckkk I hate Australian summers. Especially since, at least here, it's humid af as well.

#its time to violently long after farm life again#the biggest problem i used to be worried about is that i kinda need to be near city areas? just for resources?#its not easy being queer and also medically questionable in rural areas#and the only places that are even in the realm of possibility for affordability in bc/vancouver area are a few hours away#that and like. yknow. friends.#but now that im back living in the city again. fuck. the effect of living out in the forest with chickens and geese and surrounded by trees#and wildlife and having to work with nature and do farm chores and shit.#it did WONDERS for my mental health. have never been so at peace and so satisfied. even though its really hard on me physically sometimes.#i think itll be worth it again. even if i have to compromise on queer community and socializing a bit i think my priorities have shifted#im gonna get a plan together and start looking into the shitshow that is real estate in vancouver#i gotta get back to that i h a t e living in the city again

// not to disturb your sunday dash, but I gotta share that I've updated a folder when I keep screeshtos of my friends saying nice things about me. I'm really glad I grew enough to have strength to peek there and read it when I feel down, because I've started the folder a few years ago.
And I am grateful. Really, really grateful for everyone who is there. Even if they're no longer friends, I'm glad they were at the time. Even if we don't talk anymore and I miss chatting with them horribly, I'm glad they were there at the time. Even if some of them will never see this post, I hope they know I loved them and cared deeply for them, just like I still do for all friends around me. I really hope that my friends, including you reading this, know how precious you all are to me.

i love that when lloyd tells his parents "btw i can stop time itself :D" their reactions aren't "oh this terrible child is playing a prank on us" but instead they're just like "oh we're terrible parents he's been working so hard all this time we need to tell him we're proud of him and he doesn't need to do miracles for us to love him"
and afterwards lloyd is just like "well now im embarrassed to say :|" because they're just so nice about it and it would make them worry and it would ruin the mood so like. it can probably wait right?

I'm rly glad I have the patience to deal with rich people bc a lot of the clients I interact with at my job have more money than I could ever even hope to imagine having and it's. it feels fucking weird. it's just so strange. for the most part it's actually fine but. not to sound like a greedy peasant but I can feel my patience severely wearing thin every time one of them tells me how much they appreciate the work I'm doing at their 7k square foot seasonal mansion but they can't drop like 10 bucks as a tip ever. do you know how much 7k sqft is. that is approximately 35 of my apartments. and you may be thinking 'echo that's like 200sqft that's a tiny ass apartment that's your problem' and you are correct! this is because it was the only decent place within a reasonable distance I could feasibly afford
