Piecing it together
So this is a better formatted version of an idea I came up with during a reblog, but this one is more well put together and honestly less cringey, I wrote the other in a fit of excitement, but I believe it to hold some merit, but here we go.
This is my entire thoughts on Neon J, including what I think to be his secrets.
First off, the facts
Neon J was a toy maker, Fact.
During the 1010 boss battle after Neon J has been defeated he exclaimed about the things he did in an event called the “Border war”, he was deployed to mountains. He’s had military service, fact.
He exclaims about the things he’s done in the name of NSR with some regret, “The things i’ve done in the name of the NSR!! I would not wish upon my worst enemies!!” Fact.
He clearly has a face and lungs, at least believes he as them as he says as much about himself, but this much cannot be confirmed as we do not see the “Blood he spills from his mouth.” but i’ll get into that later.
He mentions how he has been changed, with somberness in his voice “Oh, what have I become... I have... changed so much.”
He talks about home as if it was another location “Home? I remember what home was like...” and continues to speak about it as if he’s no longer there. He also speaks of “His people” which is a very vague point as we do not know what his “people” are, but with the context of how he’s speaking it’s safe to assume he’s actually not from Vinyl city, but i’ll get into that later.
He mentions his deployment to the Azkar faction, in the year ‘68. which I find ESPECIALLY INTERESTING, Azkar faction, not Vinyl city. And furthermore through the ridges of Kewan. Further going on to mention how cold it was, “The chill was enough to brittle the spirit of any battle hardened warrior.”
He then mentions mountains, and how he only had a parachute and compass in his pack.
Sadly that’s the last piece of dialogue we get from him, but I think enough has been said for me to piece together something of a narrative, so here it goes.
I believe Neon J is a war veteran, that much is obvious, but there’s something deeper here. I believe he was a human before this border war, a full blooded human, and in fact was a simple toy maker. until this Azkar faction came and started this “Border war”, now I do not believe that Neon J lived in Vinyl city itself, at least not at first. What I believed happened was he lived in a nearby territory, that was then invaded by this Azkar faction... or... was the azkar faction? It’s hard to determine, but he clearly has some passion and love for the NSR empire, so I believe the NSR came to his people’s aid, much like a world war 2 situation, where it was not the NSR vs the Enemy, but rather the enemy invaded and NSR came to their aid.
Neon would then volunteer to join the military, he’s patriotic enough that I believe it wasn’t just a draft. He would join the navy. if we take a look at his attire I believe it’s obvious he was in the equivalent of the Navy. His Limo is a battleship afterall. but I think it goes deeper than that. I think he was a part of the NSR equivalent of the Navy Seals. and I’ll go into my reasoning here shortly.
He clearly is a decorated soldier, as he has some medals on his coat that he wears to this day.
I think the way he is designed plays a big part into why he’s a navy seal equivalent. Looking at his modern day design, he’s clearly very slender and elegantly designed, not some front line combative unit, and his radar face determines that perhaps he has devices in him that can determine distance, since he has a lack of eyes, he might have a spotting device like many sniper pairs have. Yes, sniper pairs. Snipers are deployed with Spotters who use their equipment to watch where the sniper hit, and adjust for their aim in the unlikely case they miss. I believe Neon was transformed into being both the Sniper and Spotter, built in with spotting equipment, his radar, and of course expert marksmanship.
It would also perfectly explain his deployment location, ridges and mountains are perfect locations for snipers, not front line soldiers.
So he’s a navy seal sniper fighting in a cold environment during a border war.
but there’s more, I believe he was at some point fully human, and that his “Changes” that he regrets, are physical changes to his body, either done as attempts to save his body after severe injuries, or upgrades performed by the NSR to increase his combat effectiveness. Either way, his body has not become accustomed to the augmentations even all these years later. He mentions his blood, his mouth, and his lungs, as he coughs at Zuke. but we do not see any of these things, and taking a look at his design, no matter how cartoony it may be, you cannot tell me that he has a head, there is no way, that is a flat radar monitor on top, imagine fitting your head into a flat screen or laptop monitor. I believe he is suffering from a severe case of Phantom limb syndrome. Now i’m no expert, I will not claim to be, but I do believe it’s possible for a human, who’s been augmented to the point of no return, to still believe they are performing normal human things, like bleeding, coughing, possessing lungs and a mouth, when it is shown otherwise.
I believe he has a highly decorated deployment record, but here i’ll get into a point that’s more speculative, as I have determined his kill count potentially, and it will shock you.
in our world, the sniper with the one of the highest kill counts, was a man by the name of Simo Häyhä, a finnish sniper who had 505 confirmed kills, during his deployment in a winter war.
A sniper deployed to a frozen environment? Sounds familiar if you ask me.
but it goes further.
With all his augmentations it’s safe to assume that Neon J, with his spotter equipment, is twice as effective as the best human, it’s just safe to say a robot is at least twice as good as any human, especially a military grade android/cyborg. and what do you get when you multiply 505 by two?
1010.
Pretty crazy right? actually yes, at the moment I have no way to confirm his actual number of kills, but I think 1010 is a fair bare minimum for his kill count, and would warrant a regret like “I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemies.”
it’s also stated that he was deployed for several years, so having a kill count like 1010, for an augmented robot soldier sniper with built in spotting equipment, is reasonable I believe.
I will now summarize my points.
Neon J (If that is his real name) was a humble toy maker from a neighboring territory that was absorbed into the NSR empire after the NSR came to their aid during a border war. He signed up and joined the navy seals equivalent of the NSR as one of their best, if not their best Sniper. over his deployment to the frozen ridges and mountains, he sustained damage, and this most likely was the source of all his augmentations as he slowly was modified with spotter technology built into his hardware. No longer needing a spotter on his sniper deployments, he became more and more like an assassin, possibly holding down entire choke points or taking out high ranking members of the opposition during his many years, potentially 1010, but that’s just a rough estimation and a fun number to say. But more importantly, I think he’s suffering from a form of Phantom limb syndrome, where his mind and body have still not entirely adjusted to his augmentations, as he mentions his blood and face, despite both very clearly not being there, and I would not leave it up to the cartoony design of the game, you cannot fit a face into his radar, his radar which I believe was his primary sniper augmentation, as it took over the place of his spotter partner for him, and allowed him to go solo. He was highly decorated when he came back, but was not the same man he once was. as now, the war has been built into him, and thus, he treats everything like combat, even his own sons are like soldiers, he cares for them immensely, but every aspect of his life has now become ingrained with his service as a navy sniper, the outfits, the themes, his mannerisms, even his limo is a battleship. and seeing as the NSR has only been around for a decade or two, it’s safe to assume this is just a few years after his deployment, so him battling with the changes made to his body, the things he did for the NSR (Which could range from simple sniping, to full on solo assassination missions) and him still coping with no longer being in the military, is not only reasonable, but it explains alot.
If I think of anything else, i’ll make a follow up post, or edit this one.
but for now, let’s show him some more love, as he still seems to be fighting his own wars, internally.
Have a lovely day, and stay safe soldiers. <3

The anime tends to Kousei's recuperation story when he finds that music is something beyond playing each note (and becomes hopelessly enamored with Kaori). Shockingly, Kaori's happiness just masks the inescapable catastrophe, similar to the clear shading range of the anime. Will Your Next Smartphone be a Xiaomi? S20 FE 5G vs Mi 10T!
I must start off by saying WOW. Just a few short years ago, I wouldn't have dared to compare a pretty high end Samsung device to any Xiaomi phone. Here we are though, it's 2021, Huawei is pretty much out of the picture given that their phones don't have access to the Google services, Samsung makes great phones, but are usually quite pricey and Xiaomi isn't focused on making only cheap, budget smartphones anymore. Although not available worldwide, the Mi 10 Ultra, which takes every spec and brings it to the max is Xiaomi's way of giving us a sneak peak into what the future holds when it comes to their high end phones.
We are going to divide this comparison into 6 categories: Design, Screen, UI, Performance, Camera and finally, which one deserves your hard earned cash the most? If you're only interested in a specific, feel free to jump to that section through the video progress bar.
Ok, so first of all, the design and quality of the phones. This one is pretty easy, with Samsung you can feel that some corners were cut in order to bring the price down, we have seen this happening with most flagship killers. The back is made out a hybrid material, something that Samsung calls glasstic, but really, it feels like matte plastic. On the Mi 10T, we have Gorilla glass 5 not just on the front, but also on the back with this mirror-like effect. Also, the color of the back shifts from dark grey to almost silver, depending on the light. The frame is made out of aluminium on both, which is to be expected, but overall, the design of the S20 FE is just uninspiring. From the plain camera bump, to the larger bezels, I just don't think the S20 FE takes the crown when it comes to design. The bezels on this phone are slightly larger than on the predecessor, the Galaxy S10 Lite, so I can't say I'm pleased with this. Although the bezels aren't really slim on the Mi 10T either, when holding the phone, you can feel that the materials are of much higher quality, mostly because of the back. The camera bump is more pronounced but at least more interesting than just throwing 3 cameras in column and making the bump much wider than necessary. I must mention, this is not a 4 camera system, as the holes would lead you to believe, one of them is there just for the sake of symmetry. I will say though, the Mi 10T is quite a bit heavier than the S20 FE, a bit larger, mostly because of the larger screen and about a milimeter thicker, so if you appreciate thin & light, the Mi 10T might not be for you. If these things don't bother you, the Mi 10T is an absolute winner, being much closer to flagship territory than the S20FE, when it comes to the design.
Things are going to get a lot more interesting now, let's talk about the screens. On paper, the screen of the Mi 10T might look like the winner. After all, it's larger, coming in at 6.67 inches instead of 6.5 inches and it has an impressive 144Hz refresh rate, rather than 120Hz. There's a catch though, the screen on the Mi 10T is an IPS LCD panel, unlike the Samsung which has an AMOLED screen. This right here is a significant difference and the sole reason why the screen on the Mi 10T is not as good as it could be. Blacks are not as deep as on the AMOLED, because of the backlighting, the refresh rate isn't as impressive as it sounds on paper, because of the high response time, which looks like ghosting if you pay attention. I'm not sure it would've fit the budget, but I can honestly say a 90Hz AMOLED screen would've been the better choice, instead of going all out on the refresh rate but not feeling this benefit because of the LCD panel. Because of the LCD panel, it also means that you are missing out on Always on functionality, but this is the smallest of drawbacks, if you ask me. On the other side, with the Samsung, it's the usual AMOLED with really saturated colors. If you switch colors from vivid to to normal, the colors become too washed out, much more than I'm used to on my iPhone. What I ended up doing is using vivid mode with the blue light filter activated. I'm sure color accuracy suffers because of this, but at least the screen looks closer to what I'm used to.
Next up, we'll discuss the UIs, because it's an important category. This does come down to personal preference though, so what I'll do is tell you what each one can do and any drawbacks that they may have. Let's start off with Samsung, this S20 FE 5G rocks One UI 3 on top of Android 11 and to be honest, Samsung has got their stuff together when it comes to UIs. I get updates quite frequently and will continue to get Android updates until Android 13, Samsung has their own identity now, I like their browser better than Chrome. Also something great that Samsung did for one-handed use is using these large headers at the top, which disappears when scrolling, but mean that you can easily access the buttons when opening the app. Samsung's dedicated one-handed mode is elegant and can be adjusted so the screen shrinks to exactly the size you need. As far as bugs and glitches go, I can happily say that I haven't experienced none and the interface is smooth. On the Mi 10T we have MIUI 12 running on top of Android 10, so we're starting off already with an older version of Android, but this should be updated to Android 11 at some point, hopefully... MIUI feels a bit snappier and it has a lot of great looking notifications, maybe a bit overdone, but it cheers me up seeing stuff happening instead of the boring notifications we all got used to. I like the fact that I can get to the quick settings panel through a single swipe on the right side of the screen instead of two swipes on Samsung. The video toolbox is extremely useful as it lets you listen podcasts on Android with the screen closed. It's not all rosy though, the phone app is for example the stock android one and the UI elements just don't seem MIUI-like, the background of the app is blueish, whereas all the other apps are black because I have dark mode on. Sometimes, an app I use frequently, cellmapper is stuck open and the only way to close it is by force-closing. I am happy to report, though that there are no ads here. In the end, it comes down to personal preference, if you like your phone to be more animated, you'll like MIUI, if you want a more sober experience, go with One UI.
Performance wise, not much to say, both are at the flagship level, given the Snapdragon 865 equipped by both. 6GB of RAM on both, as these are the base models, MIUI seems to be a bit more aggressive with RAM management but this can be tweaked on a per-app basis, so your most used apps aren't going to get closed. I'm impressed that I don't feel the change in the refresh rate on the Xiaomi, as it is adaptive, it's smooth all throughout. One thing I like about the Xiaomi is the side mounted fingerprint reader, it's blazing fast, much faster than any phone I've used so far. With the on screen fingerprint sensor on the S20 FE, I almost always struggle to get it to unlock, it's harder to keep your finger stationary on glass and it seems to have a hard time reading my finger. Overall, I'll give this to the Mi 10T, the fingerprint scanner tips the scale in its direction for sure.
Cameras are a category where sometimes you can really feel that corners were cut. In this case, the Mi 10T doesn't have a telephoto camera, Xiaomi choosing to offer a 5MP macro lens, which although miles better than the 2 MP, it still doesn't come anywhere close to the telephoto when it comes to usefulness. The main camera is a 64MP shooter on the Mi 10T, using pixel binning to get 16MP photos, whereas on the Samsung we have a 12MP sensor. Overall, both take good shots, with the Xiaomi having more details, but losing out on dynamic range and in low light conditions, which is why I'll give this one to Samsung. The Mi 10T shoots 8k video, but that's a gimmick, as there is no video stabilisation at 8k, so you'll most likely end up shooting 4k to get usable video.
So, now the final question. Which one should you get? Well, here's the deal, both of these smartphones are great, but for the price difference, $699 vs about $499, it's hard to justify the price of the Samsung. Yes, the camera is better on the Samsung, but on the other hand, the design on the Mi 10T is higher quality than on the Samsung. I can only recommend the S20 FE if you want an all-around better camera system, partly due to the telephoto, partly due to better dynamic range and low light capabilities or if you absolutely can't live without OLED, though I'd recommend checking it out in real life before making the call. If the camera's not your main focus, spare the money and get the better looking, higher quality built Mi 10T.

Chapter Four
Read Chapter Three Here
Okay, so you might have had to immediately climb back down to grab your tablet. No big deal, just a sensor that would have alerted whoever is at the helm of movement, and you need to make sure that it won’t be pinging out in distress that someone is banging around in the atmospheric control ducts. You’ve already pestered Elias about the wireless network service, and he gave you the information of one that is most certainly being monitored very, very carefully, and absolutely would not be shared with a machine that keeps everyone from suffocating. More than likely, the atmo ducts have an internal system, one that you might be able to tap into with a handy-dandy wire plugged into your trustee tablet.
It’s the oldest trick in the book to the point where most people don’t even think of it, to begin with, and instead have all these fancy smancy firewalls that keep all incoming signals from coming close enough to touch the cyberspace, but forget that someone could just plug themselves in and immediately have the same kind of access for far fewer tears. The driders, apparently, are no different than your usual hits and have almost no sort of internal security to defend from any internal attacks, almost like they never thought that would happen. You run a quick codebreaker app, and within moments, you’re in, a two-dimensional map of the floor blinking onto the screen as the information downloads.
A little red tracker signals which station your tablet plugs into, showing your apartment label as 123412.5, which isn’t anywhere near as helpful as you’d thought it would be. What you had hoped was that all the rooms would be designated nice and dandy with the names of people and what they are used for, but nope. Gods forbid for anything to be remotely easy for you! Biting your lip down, you try to make sense of the numbers, thinking that maybe it has to do with your… birthdate? No. Birthplace? No. Your name, somehow? No. But something a little strange is that no other rooms on the floor have digits in any way close to yours. 346578, 346690, and 346744 are the ones right next to your apartment, which you don’t have to be a genius to notice they those are widely different from than the one you were given. While you can note the positions of rooms, you’re sure there’s some method of figuring which room is for whom, and maybe even a code for the names.
Sometimes the only way to crack a code is to look at a cheat sheet. You find the control panel for the motion sensors and turn them off. Instead of going around and barging into random people’s apartments (most humans don’t take kindly to that, you expect the driders to be the same), you decide to start poking around some industrial closets to see what you can see. Before you can begin worming your way through the ducts, though, a loud knock sounds on the door, your soul almost jumping into a different plane of reality from shock. Careful not to bang your head on the edge of the opening as you close it the flap, before silently hopping down the bookshelf and get to an acceptable altitude for your voice to be.
“Yes?”
“Ma’am? You asked me to tell you if I saw your servant. She just returned.”
“Oh!” You’re already pushing the bookshelf back up against the wall. “Thank you so much for letting me know. I’ll be out in just a minute.”
“You’re welcome, ma’am.”
God, these stone floors are good for moving noiselessly. You don’t hear the drow maid as she retreats back to whatever chore she was doing, which means you probably couldn’t sense if she comes back. Good to know that you’re in a pretty vulnerable position, not that you didn’t know that already. Looking over the room one last time just to make sure everything seems reasonably normal, you unlock the door and leave, walking down the hallway and almost running into the Starward Matchmakers™ representative. After taking a generous step away to avoid getting mowed over, you let out a huffy breath.
“I was looking for you everywhere,” you bark, crossing your arms and glaring. “Where have you been? The prince showed up, I was floundering in the dark.”
“Oh, right,” she places a perfectly manicured hand on her forehead. “That’s what we’re here for, aren’t we. I almost forgot.”
It takes you a moment to process the fucking oddity of her words. She almost forgot? The Starward Matchmakers™ representative doesn’t forget, she remembers everything about everything. This isn’t good. “Where were you?”
“I- I don’t recall... oh, that’s right. I went out to speak with the prince’s assistant. Elias.”
This does not bode well. “Alright, let’s go back to your room. I’m going to take a look at your processing chip.” If you so much as breathed in ay which way to suggest that you wanted to peak at the Starward Matchmakers™ representative’s internal processors, she would typically take that as an invitation for a whack. But she doesn’t even raise her hand in a threat, only follows you to the wide-open door and inside without a word of protest.
Once the door is shut (the Starward Matchmakers™ representative is particular about her privacy), you gently tilt her head back, then fiddle around on the side of her neck until you find a control panel. Ugh, these newer models are so goddamn lifelike that most people can hardly tell the difference, but that means that someone unfamiliar with the mechanics is going to have a rougher time figuring out what goes where. After a moment of fiddling around, though, you find a corner of her artificial skin that presses down like a button, and out pops a chunk of metal and skin-like silicone. The exposed insides look like raw muscle, which was most certainly a conscious choice from the manufacturer. They want the androids convincingly humanesque down to the literal bloody details, almost as if they’re playing a game of gods.
It’s terribly stupid.
And incredibly inconvenient.
You reach between two of the twitching muscles with a finger, biting down on your tongue to keep from making any noises. After just a moment of digging through the twitching wetness, you find a button that you hope is a shutdown override, pressing it down until you feel it click. Instantly, the Starward Matchmakers™ representative’s eyes flicker as she falls back onto the bed, still as a board. Or a corpse. Calmly as a phantom, you stand over her, staring down at her blossom covered blouse as you try to build up the courage to rip open her chest. Only after taking in a generous breath do you bend over, fingers outstretched to work open the first button. Her eyes open just before you get the chance to even graze the fabric, and her voice, cool and devoid of emotion, speaks.
“Initiate full shutdown?”
You shout. Actually, it’s more of a quiet, rather undignified shriek, one that you would never openly admit to making. While you had expected to give some kind of voice command to open up her central circuitry unit, you didn’t realize she would do…. That. Look at you with those empty blue eyes, her light hair still in some kind of impossibly perfect style, her mouth moving but without her voice. And to think she kicked your ass a nigh forty-eight hours earlier.
“Initiate full shutdown?” Her prerecorded voice asks once more.
“No, no.” You find your footing, creeping back over to where you were. Maybe you don’t have to get all up in her business, after all. “Commence full system diagnostics.”
It takes a moment for the command to process.
“Commencing full system diagnostics. Estimated time of completion; 24.5 hours.”
Internally, you’re screaming. These fucking fancy pieces of machinery and their ‘high functioning’ abilities to perform like humans until one of them breaks a nail and it’s a week in the shop until everything’s better.
“Correction: estimated time of full systems diagnostics report will be completed in 26.77 hours.”
You’re going to grind your teeth to dust on this mission, you think, looking at the clock and trying to even your breathing. One day, just one day, and then everything is going to be fine. You’re fine. This is fine. Everything is fine, fine, fine, fine, fine.
When you leave her room, you’re careful to shut the door behind you, though you don’t lock it. You’d like to get back inside without revealing your advanced lockpicking skills, and you don’t really have it in you to request a second set of bedroom keys from the drow servant. Not yet, anyway. Without anything much else to do, you go back to your room, though not to try shimmying your way through the atmo ducts again. Instead, you throw yourself onto your bed with your tablet and do your absolute darndest to distract yourself from everything else until it’s time to eat. The prince doesn’t request your company for the rest of the day, so you try to keep your heart from bubbling over with anxiety and keep your eyes and brain focused on Funny Vine.26 Video Compilation 55, TRY NOT TO LAUGH OR SMILE.
Suddenly you’re awake, and it takes you a moment to realize that you must have fallen asleep at some point in the video. The tablet screen is off, you can’t see it in the blackness of the room, so you feel around for it until your fingers hit the hard glass-like material of a screen. Dim light fills the room as you press into the button on the side, the shadows long and looming. You sit up quick enough that a wave of dizziness washes over your skull, your heartbeat throbbing throughout your body and into your fingers. It’s already noon?
You slip out of your bed, biting your bottom lip, checking to make sure that your door is still locked out of a paranoid habit you developed while working freelance. The handle doesn’t budge. Even though the drow servant has a set of keys, you don’t think that she’s the type to break into someone’s room while they are sleeping. Letting out a slight huff of breath, you flip the lock, quietly opening the door to look before you leave just in case the prince is lurking out in the common area like yesterday. You don’t see him near the bookshelf, or over by the dining room, but that’s where your scope of vision unfortunately ends.
Taking a gamble, you step out, smoothing down the front of your shirt. The drow servant is working over by the cabinets, you think she’s cleaning something out, and she’s quick to approach once she catches sight of you. “Good morning, ma’am! Apologies for not waking you, but I suspected you wished to remain sleeping.”
You yawn, rubbing the edge of your eye. “You suspected correct, thank you. Has the prince… erm… dropped by, at all, looking for me?”
“His assistant called asking if you were available to accompany the keias on another walk in the gardens, but I informed him that you were asleep. You have been requested to contact the assistant at your leisure. I have food ready to warm up if you would like, ma’am.”
“Thanks,” you say, distractedly, “I would appreciate that. I’m... going to get dressed while you heat the food.”
“Excellent, I shall begin at once, ma’am.”
In a bit of a haze, you wander back to your room, debating on how to handle the day with the Starward Matchmakers™ representative down for the count in a vulnerable position. You aren’t absolutely certain, but the fact that the drow attendant, Elias, was the last person she remembers going to meet is highly suspect. No duh. This has got to be some kind of trap, or at the very least, a test. Until you get more information, it’s probably most beneficial to go on and act like nothing is happening. You get ready for the day, careful to select an outfit that would be considered more presentable to the public than the last.
You eat breakfast, something relatively familiar to your taste buds, and radio the drow attendant to let him know that you can meet the prince whenever he’s ready. The drow attendant politely informs you that he’ll get back to you on that. An hour passes. To say that you’re bored wouldn’t exactly be all the way correct, but you’re definitely going stir-crazy, half expecting that every time you turn your head, the prince would be crouched in any of the corners you currently aren’t looking at. So, instead of staying on the couch, staring blankly up at the ceiling, you grab your tablet and scoot on out of there.
While growing up as a miner might have aided in your abilities to handle tunnels and rocky structures, you never really had to deal with gravity in those situations. Really, the only thing you had to worry about were the buzzermites, little critters that didn’t need to breathe, but could a heavy number on any electrical equipment. Here, though. Let’s just say that the critters are more… predatory. Terrifying. So your little exploration expedition is weighed down by all the random excuses you have to come up with if someone gets a little accusatory.
What are you doing here, aw, nothing, totally not trying to figure out the algorithms of the room labels. Definitely not looking over the downloaded map right now and trying to figure out if that door is a closet or someone else’s apartment. Calmly, you count the number of rooms you’ve passed on the map, trying to correlate that to what you’ve seen, one, two, three, four, crash. Something spills out onto the floor, and you stumble backward in a few shaky steps. After just a moment, you manage to regain both your balance and focus your vision, finding that you nearly managed to mow over a drow servant and their cart.
“Oh fu- I’m sorry, I didn’t see you there!” You immediately help with the cleanup, bending over to gather what you can in your arms, noticing a surplus of decorative towels and sheets, all resembling each other in the same silver and violet pattern. A cart that had just made an untimely introduction the side of your thigh holds more of the same shattered-shaped, glittering embroidery, so you do your best to dump what you had gathered neatly onto the top of the pile.
“I should have known better than to try to haul twice the load in a single run,” they say, though their voice is somewhat strained. The drow servant doesn’t seem to notice you, or, at least, your species, just that your voice is apologetic and around the same height as most other of the serving class. It doesn’t help that they are desperately trying to balance the wave of pillows and towels that had tipped over on their head, their dusty gray arms wrapped around the fabric. You don’t think it would matter if their face were uncovered or not, since their attention seems to be solely on keeping the mountain from becoming unbalanced before they can gently set everything back on the already overflowing pile of the cart.
Already, though, some of the pillows fall over the edge once more. You hastily move to catch them before they fall, or at least to quickly pick them up off the floor if you happen to miss. “It apparently worked for a bit,” you gander, looking over their shoulder to see that one of the doors was open. A storage unit. You try to commit the odd symbol to memory, desperately trying to memorize the sharp angles and sliding curves of the script in the second it would take to not look too terribly suspicious. “Let me help you ease the cargo a bit, I think that if I carry a couple of things, it won’t be in any more danger of tipping over.”
“Oh, do you have the time?” The drow asks, clearly thrilled for the help, before they manage to get a glimpse of your face. Their jaw hangs open, only for a hot second, before their face pales in what you can only imagine is terrible panic.
“I mean,” you try to calm the situation down, “I don’t really have anything better to do, to be quite honest.” It didn’t seem like that had the effect you wanted it to, so you try, “you look like you’re in a terrible hurry, and I want to help, so I’m going to start walking, and you’re going to tell me which way I’m going.”
That seems to snap them out of their stupor. “Of- of course, if it pleases you, your grace. Straight up ahead, I will get the correct door to open.” All prim and proper, as though you hadn’t just caught them entirely out of sorts. Whatever training they must get must be ridiculously good for them to be able to snap back from that kind of panic, or maybe prior experience has taught them not to shed too many emotions.
Whatever the case, you walk, trailing to the side of the cart with the intention of catching anything else that decides to stray. And, to be fair to the drow servant, the room that the load is supposed to go to is reasonably far from the closet. The distance only helps to further cement the map into your brain, now that you’ve managed to physically see for yourself where two of the locations are. The servant holds out one of their wrists, their left one, you notice, and the keypad on the wall makes a satisfied beep in response. The door unlocks, and the drow servant turns the old-fashioned handle to let you in first, standing to the side.
You step into the room, mentally calculating how much you can snoop before it looks suspicious, and decide that you have to play it easy for now, especially with your only way out virtually down for the count, possibly infected with some sort of trojan virus. So you step away from the door, sticking to the wall, staring at the fairly similar, yet unique layout of the new and entirely different suite. The architecture is familiar enough that you can tell that it is, in fact, part of the same building and era, but changed just enough that you would know if you had accidentally wandered into it thinking it was yours. Interesting. You wonder if those designing the underground had a different spin on every suite, or if there are only two or three repeating designs. You suppose you’ll find out eventually.
“I’ll take those,” the drow servant says, gathering the bunch of cloth out of your arms and wandering off to what you assume is the restroom.
“Someone looks like they’re redecorating,” you say in a simple observation. Everything else about the room is completely stripped away, the humanoid-made couches missing their cushions, all the cabinets in the kitchen area open and empty.
“Not redecorating,” the drow servant says, then seems mildly hesitant to add, “the ambassador has been... replaced.”
“Oh.” You have no idea who they’re talking about, but now you know that you’re on a floor with a bunch of important people. Which you had probably known, you think you had a very brief, very rushed lesson about the importance of who will most likely be sharing similar accommodations. Still, hearing it from of a native is different than the hazy guesses offered up to you by an overpaid military official who barely knows what was going on twenty light-years beyond the border. You suppose that if someone… not you, of course, but someone wishing to wreak havoc could inflict a lot of intergalactic political damage just by briefly messing with the air filters on this exact floor.
Then you realize the choice of words being used. “Replaced?”
The drow servant shakes their head. “It isn’t my place, your grace.”
“Of course,” you blink, taking a step towards the door, “I’ll get out of your hair, then. Sorry about running into your cart in the hallway.”
“Oh- please don’t apologize, your grace, it was my own fault for being so careless with myself!”
“No, you were just trying to do your job efficiently, and I got in your way.” You’re already in the hallway, but you pause, and try to consider how they might feel if your job- no, if your life was on the line because you accidentally ran over the queen of England with a serving tray. “I won’t tell anyone, if that’s what you’re afraid of.”
There’s an abundance of relief on their face, but also a carefully hidden smidgen of suspicion, one you wouldn’t have been able to sniff out if you weren’t so well-versed in winning people over to believing whatever you promise. “I know what you’re thinking,” you say, holding up your hands in surrender, “you think that I want something in return, and you’re right.”
They bite. “What… what is it, your grace?”
“Stop calling me that.”
“Y-your grace?”
“That, yeah.” You wave your hand. “It’s annoying. Just call me by my first name, ‘miss’ or ‘ma’am’ if you absolutely must. If the prince has some kind of weird fetish over being worshipped, you can do what you must in his presence, but when he’s not around, it’s fine to just be casual, m’kay?”
It takes a moment for them to fully process what you’re saying. “M-miss?”
“That’s it.” You grin, placing your hands on your hips. “You got it already. Maybe spread the word about this, too.”
They nod.
“Alright, it was nice getting to know you!” You offer a little wave, then get on out of there. Even though you managed to appear cool as a cucumber, your heart is hammering inside your ribcage. All it takes is this one servant to report your odd behavior, you’re sure, and it’s all over. You don’t know how exactly it would be over, but surely they’d figure out that you’re trying to do reconnaissance through the servants. It is one of the oldest tricks in the book. The human book, you guess, but still the book. Oh god, you might throw up. You need to eat something, maybe watch a flick to get your mind off the shakingly reckless shit that you’ve been up to.
No such luck though, because why would the universe see fit to ease your pain in the slightest? Why would you be so silly to think that? How could you hope for anything outside of the prince, standing in the middle of the common space like a goddamn apparition, waiting, apparently, for you.
“Oh, hey,” you say in what you imagine a perfectly normal nonchalant greeting should be like. “Your assistant didn’t tell me you were coming, so… um, I went for a walk.”
“You look unwell.”
Goddamnit, you probably look like you’ve wandered out of a nightmare. “I didn’t sleep great last night.”
“Was the bed not to your liking? Are the pillows too stiff or soft for your neck?” He immediately tenses, and you can feel a soft aura of bloodlust roll off him like a dewdrop from a flower.
You swallow thickly. “No, the bed is amazing. I just… couldn’t get to sleep. My mind wouldn’t settle.”
“Stress.” He says as though he had known from the moment you stepped through the door, and not as though he were, just moments before, ready to strangle whoever put together your room. “You’re stressed. This is stressing for you?”
The room tilts slightly, but you catch yourself before you so much as wobble. Yes, you’re stressed, you want to scream but don’t. There are too many variables, too many people for his anger to flow towards. You reach up and rub your temples, taking in a shaking breath, knowing that you’re on the precipice of a panic attack. Sitting would be deeply preferable, but you would have to shove your way past the prince, and you don’t think that the two of you are on that level of understanding quite yet. He might think- he might think-
You take another breath, deep, gaping, and balance yourself on the bookshelf. Don’t lie to me, the prince’s voice echoes in your head as you open your mouth to speak the single most used falsehood in the history of humankind. “I’m fine.”
“Perhaps you believe that,” the prince says, offering a steadying arm, which you hesitantly take, “but it appears that gravity sickness has begun to catch up with you.”
Lolth’s gravity is almost twice more than you are used to, Clementine had said once, drumming her short fingernails against a steel table, I give you one week at best before you really start feeling it all up inside those bones and muscles.
God, you hate it when she’s right. And you especially hate that barely three days have passed and you already want to lay down and go into a three-year coma.
“You need to expand your center of gravity,” the prince, at least, sounds like he knows what he speaks of, and he generously steps out of your way. You can take a few shaky steps forward and lay down on the couch, your brain swimming around in circles as your muscles twitch occasionally. Then, after a moment of silence, he reaches a hand down and gently pets your hair. “You mustn’t be so crass with your own health. I understand that ‘fine’ doesn’t at all mean its exact definition when humans use it in the same context,” he continues, the sharpness of his claws never once pressing hard enough to hurt, not even by accident, “however, I don’t wish for you to use it when it comes to your own safety.”
“Alright,” you agree quietly, your hands resting on your hammering chest. Then, in an even more subdued voice, you ask, “are…. you going to stay?”
His hands don’t stop their movements. “Do you wish me to leave?”
You have to think about it for a moment, because even though your immediate instinct is yes, please leave me alone, you bite your lip down and realize that you don’t want to deal with this all alone. You really don’t know what’s gotten into you, later you might convince yourself that you like the way his fingers move against your scalp and nothing else. Or, a deeper part of yourself that you rarely listen to whispers, you’re finally tired of dealing with this kind of shit solo. Whatever the case, you open your mouth, fully intending to send him away. But something else comes out instead.
“No, don’t go.”

A regular guy’s experience with a military graded phone and why you might want one
The Ulefone Armor 7 Pro is a smartphone designed for adventurers, construction workers and people who are routinely exposed to conditions that would endanger most modern devices. I’m not any of those things, but I still think it was the right choice for me, and it might just suit you too.
What use has a normal guy like me for a phone built to withstand such extreme conditions? I’m no couch potato, I regularly ride my bike to work and back, enjoy the occasional trekking and camping trip and walk around my city a fair bit. Even so, that is a far cry from the kind of person this phone was designed for.
After all, the Ulefone Armor X7 Pro has a IP-68 and a MIL-STD-810G rating, which means it can literally survive for a day buried under a meter of concrete, withstand half an hour under 1.5 meters of water, its completely sealed to dust or sand, and a bunch of other characteristics you can read about here. Essentially, it’s build to last.
About this review
This article is not intended to be a thorough technical review of the phone, but rather a list of reasons why I think it might suit you even if you are not the intended target for it. Therefore I will only go through some of the most important specs, highlighting what I personally consider relevant.
If you wish to know the full technical details you can visit the official Ulefone site or search for a traditional review. If you wish to skip to my conclusion, where I explain why this is also a great phone for normal users, scroll to the end.
Ulefone Armor 7 Pro specs
CPU: Mediatek Helio A20 1.8GHz
RAM: 4Gb
Storage: 32Gb (expandable)
OS: Android 10
Screen: 5’’
Back Camera: 13Mbx
Front Camera: 5Mpx
Battery: 4000 mAh
Size: 150 x 78,9 x 14,6 mm
Has NFC
Micro-usb charging
Okay, now that we listed the technical details, let’s consider what each of them brings to the table and how the final product behaves.
Slow and steady
If you are looking for a fast snappy phone with which you can simultaneously scroll through Instagram, watch a video with picture in picture mode, and have a graphic intensive game waiting for you in the background, this isn’t it. Nor is this the price range you should be aiming at.
The Armor Mediatek Helio A20 processor, with a frequency of 1.8GHz, isn’t anything to write home about. And the 4GB of RAM, though an improvement on previous models, pales in comparison to what even mid-range phones pack these days.
And you know what? That’s actually perfectly fine. The purpose of this phone isn’t to win any race, but rather to get the job done. And that it does.
I need my phone to perform what has become over the years a pretty basic list of tasks: social media, document editing, internet browsing, music and video streaming, taking some pics, and basic photo and video editing.
The Ulefone Armor 7 Pro is able to do any of those tasks without issues, even when I need to open two or three apps in the background. Yes, it does get a bit slow or even freezes for a couple of seconds from time to time, but not enough for it to interrupt my experience.
Battery life
Back when smartphones were a new thing, we used to complain about their battery life bitterly. Habituated to our old not so bright devices whose batteries lasted for days, we felt that the tradeoff wasn’t always worth it. Yes, we were now the proud owners of mind-boggling phones that could perform amazing tasks for us. But use them for a couple of hours and you better find somewhere to charge them (and have the time to wait for that to be done).
Luckily, smartphones are getting better at this by the iteration. With its 4000mAh battery, the Ulefone Armor 7 Pro is just another contender in the race for autonomy.
According to my digital wellbeing app, I’ve been using it an average of four and a half hours per day. That’s a lot. It actually puts me in the top 20% of screen time, but being excited for my new gadget and having to do this review I feel a bit justified.
Even so, I usually have at least 30% of the battery left when I finish my day, if not more. And, on the occasions I don’t use it as much, I can go two days without having to think about charging.
At a time when we are seeing affordable phones with 5000mAh of battery that can last up to three days without charge and that have better performance, the Armor X7 Pro’s battery life certainly won’t make any headlines, but it’s still a great perk for the price.
The Ulefone X7 Pro camera
As I said, one of the tasks I need my phone to perform on a daily basis is taking pictures. With a 13 megapixels main camera, a 5 megapixel front camera, and pro, night and underwater modes, the Armor X7 Pro it’s barely able to keep up with today’s standards.
I know, I know, nobody is buying it to start a photography career. But still, I was expecting a bit more, even from those low specs. Truth be told, the night mode usually just ruins the colors in most pictures and the pro mode feels terribly lacking. I still haven’t tried the underwater mode.
The first picture is taken on normal mode, the second with night mode. This kind of open dimly light landscape is the only instance where I found the night mode actually improved the result.
Pro tip: make sure to disable the Ulefone watermark, as I clearly didn’t.

If your only purpose is to take casual photos for your personal social media, then the Armor X7 Pro will do the trick, but anything more than that and you will need to look somewhere else.
Other details and utilities
There’s a lot to say about this phone. From its unique set of apps to its thick rubber encasing. But, for the sake of brevity, I’ll just go through some of the features that I have noticed more in its daily usage.
Custom button
After using Motorola -and it’s amazing gestures- for years, I was afraid I would have too much of a hard time getting used to another brand. Luckily the Ulefone Armor X7 Pro comes with a custom key on its left side that can be programmed to do up to three different tasks. I have it set just to two: opening the camera and the flashlight. Simple, but incredibly useful.
NFC
A surprising number of middle-range phones lack this feature. But not the Armor X7 Pro, and I’m incredibly grateful for it.
Headphone Jack lids
In order to withstand an hour under 1.2 meters of water, the phone is completely sealed off. That includes the headphone jack, the charger plug, and the sim tray, which are all protected by thick rubber lids. Unfortunately, said lids are difficult to open without the dedicated tool Ulefone includes in the package.
This tool, while useful, is rather small and prone to getting lost. I have resorted to knives, forks, screwdrivers, and other such tools to open them, including my own nails (which I do not recommend).
Sadly, on a couple of occasions where my nails were trimmed and I had nothing pointy with me, I could open the headphone jack at all and resigned myself to just listening to the surroundings.
Though I understand the importance of this protection, I wish Ulefone had thought about some way of opening these lids without that tool. Or maybe even a way to carry it in the phone itself without fear of losing it.
Speakers
Oh my god are they loud! I really haven’t used my wireless speakers since I have this phone. Of course, it doesn’t have the same quality or sound level, but it’s more than enough for most situations.
Why I recommend the Ulefone Armor X7 Pro
Simply put, this is a phone for people that don’t want to worry at all about their phones. Which isn’t a new concept at all. The market for minimalist phones is growing as people realize that some device’s specs are so good they end up getting into the way of life.
And, while the Armor X7 Pro probably wasn’t designed with this in mind, it achieves it in an awesome and unique way.
First of all, its specs are good enough for the vast majority of tasks people normally need their phones to perform, while at the same time not being so appealing that they demand your constant attention.
Use it normally and you’ll have no problems, use it intensely and its shortcomings will start to annoy you. It might not be ideal, but it’s a great way to reduce your screen time (at least when you don’t have to write a review about it).
On the other hand, its ridiculous resistance to water, falls, pressure, and temperature, makes it so I don’t have to worry about breaking the thing. I’m not a particularly clumsy person, but I have been known to break a phone or two, so this is important to me.
Now, with the Armor X7 Pro, I just leave my phone anywhere, with almost no worries about its safety. If it can go through the 29 tests needed to get the  MIL-STD-810G certification, It can withstand a fall while I’m riding my bike, the playful (and sticky) hands of my nephews, or having a pint of beer accidentally poured over it on a Friday night.
As long as it doesn’t get stolen, it will probably be with me for however long I want it to.
And I got all of this for just over a 100 euros on eBay -you can get it cheaper in Banggood, if you are willing to wait a bit longer. Really, I don’t think theres another phone that can deliver all of this by that price.

Meet the developer: "Space Pilgrim” series
Tumblr media
We caught up with Noel Clay of Pilgrim Adventures - yes, the very same beloved creator of the famed Space Pilgrim series - to discuss some of his recent games. We also took the opportunity to ask about his upcoming game, The Deadly Facade, which is an exciting departure from his previous works. Read on for more!
TIGR: Hi Noel! We see you've been really busy, with a couple of new games released in the past year! Tell us more about them.
NC: Sure! A Sceptic's Guide To Magic is a '90s style point-and-click adventure game that follows Lester Chapman, a forensic investigator who discovers a secret underworld of magic and mayhem after becoming involved in a grisly case of ritual murder. A pair of witches named Fi and Val guide him on his journey, and you also get to play as those two characters at different points in the game.
Sceptic's Guide is chiefly inspired by the classic LucasArts games - there's humour, but it also gets quite dark at times. The story takes place in Birmingham, England, near to where I grew up. Most of the locations in the game are based on real-life places, and I had a whole lot of fun trying to recreate them.
The gameplay involves a mixture of traditional puzzle-solving and spell-casting. In order to cast spells, you'll need to gather all the appropriate ingredients as well as correct apparatus, a clue for which is normally given in the form of a riddle. It can be a bit silly and lighthearted, but the game does also delve a fair bit into magical history, mythology and folklore. People who are interested in those things will probably get a kick out of it.
Screenshots from A Sceptic’s Guide To Magic:

The Deed II is a follow-up to The Deed and The Deed: Dynasty, and explores the same basic concept: you need to commit a murder, and then get away with it - usually by planting false evidence to frame someone else, then convince the police of your innocence.
Deed II takes place at a 1930s French brothel, where an Englishman named Kenneth Miller recognises one of the orderlies who had cruelly abused him during his time at a mental asylum. He decides it's time for revenge... but which of the patrons or employees of this establishment should take the blame for his crime?
Although the basic formula of Deed II is the same as its predecessors, there are also a bunch of new features: a new game engine, improved graphics, and an in-game clock. Whereas in the previous games, time would advance as a result of your actions, now it moves forward naturally, and you have one hour of in-game time to commit the murder. The NPCs in the brothel will also move around according to their own individual schedules, which affects a lot of your choices. As always though, there are a whole bunch of different endings and ways that you can approach the game - more than ever before.

TIGR: Wow, both games sure sound exciting, and I'm sure your fans will be thrilled to try them out if they haven't already done so! And you've got another game coming out very soon right?
NC: Yes! The Deadly Facade, which will hopefully be released later this year, is my first crack at a full-blooded visual novel. In a setting inspired by 1950s' Hollywood, you are an actor about to star in your first major motion picture. Things seem to be going well, until you get tied up in a shocking murder mystery. Can you solve the case while also delivering the performance of a lifetime?
Here are some exclusive images of The Deadly Facade for TIGR:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
TIGR: Very interesting! Tell us more...
NC: Deadly should offer something a bit different from the typical visual novel. Among other things, I've been developing a fairly complex relationship system, as I wasn't really interested in the simple like/dislike variable which seems to be quite common among these types of games. Over time, through your actions and conversation choices, every character in the game will develop a sense of your personality and morality. That will ultimately determine how they feel about you.
As for the setting, I'm hoping it will allow people to live out the fantasy of being an up-and-coming Hollywood star in the olden days, while also delivering a sense of the fear and paranoia that was rife during this complicated era.
TIGR: Deadly sounds like it's going to be amazing! It's also made with a different game engine from what you usually use. What motivated this change?
NC: All my previous games have been made with RPG Maker. Although I really enjoy working with that engine, it can be tricky to market RPG Maker games even though they may not resemble the typical fare. So I figured it was time to try something different - in this case the Ren'Py visual novel engine - if only to convince more players to give my games a chance.
TIGR: Well, we at TIGR would happily play another thousand (and more) of your games even if they continue to be made in RPG Maker - it's all about the gameplay and content, right, not the platform?! :)
But moving on, tell us more about how you craft these fantastic stories of yours. Where does all this imagination and creativity come from, and what are some of your sources of inspiration?
NC: I've always had a lot of creative energy. When I was a kid, I was constantly writing stories and drawing comics. I wasn't making any video games back then yet, but my older brothers John and Edmund were - throughout the '90s they created numerous adventure games for the Amiga from their very bedrooms (The Lost Prince, Starbase 13, Lethal Formula, Epsilon 9, The Experiment).
As an interesting side note, Edmund also developed a program called GRAC (Graphic Adventure Creator) for the Amiga in 1994. It was designed to allow people to create their own adventure games with a minimal amount of programming knowledge. GRAC was probably the first program of its type in the western world. Meanwhile in Tokyo, unknown to my brother, Enterbrain were already creating the early versions of RPG Maker.
Tumblr media
I tend to consume a fairly varied diet of media – movies, TV shows, comic books, novels, board games – from a wide range of different genres. Not much of my inspiration actually comes from video games, but rather from these other sources, which I suppose is one way of maintaining some originality!
The universe of Space Pilgrim owes a large debt to Joss Whedon's Firefly. Another of my games, Sentience: The Android's Tale, is a love letter to Philip K Dick, whose writing also inspired elements of the main Space Pilgrim Academy storyline. Ender's Game also played a role there.
TIGR: We are seriously impressed! It certainly sounds like you and your brothers were born to make video games! So do you do everything alone, or do you have a team to help you? Take us through your development process.
NC: I pretty much work alone, although I do often commission work from artists or use commercial art and music assets. This has been the case with all my games except for Sceptic's Guide - for that one, I had some help from a friendly witch when it came to writing the spellbook. I'm currently collaborating with an artist named Llyrel on developing some characters for an upcoming magical fantasy game, which should be my next project after Deadly.
I'd also like to mention my publisher, GrabTheGames, with whom I've been working for nearly five years. They handle a lot of the marketing and promotion so that I can focus on the game development side of things.
These days, I usually start with a tonne of research. The first month or two mostly just consists of reading books and taking notes. For Sentience, I read about AI; for Deed II it was 1930s Paris; for Deadly, it was 1950s Hollywood as well as the biographies of some major stars of the era. I also watched more than 50 movies from that time period, partly for inspiration and partly because I just love movies. After that, my time was split between scripting the game and creating the 3D renders. I tend to only have a loose plan for the story at the beginning, so that things can continue to evolve along the way.
TIGR: One last question for you before we end - what's something we should know about you?
NC: Tyrkisk peber. It’s awesome.
Tumblr media
We thank Noel for his time and look forward to playing The Deadly Facade when it's released! In the meantime, check out all of Noel's published games on Steam here.

The Future of Mobile App Development
The portable application industry is a thrilling region to watch out for. It has become massively throughout the last decade and almost certainly, it’ll keep on doing as such. What does the fate of versatile application improvement hold? What would we be able to expect, given the present status of the business and with information on how it has advanced in the course of recent many years?
We see five rising patterns that we think will bear their weight sooner rather than later of portable application advancement.
1. Cross-stage and Cross-gadget Development
With regards to portable stages, we will in general default to iOS, Android, and to a lesser degree, Windows Mobile. Indeed, even as iOS keeps up with its solid grasp on the top-of-the-line market without any indications of relinquishing its exceptional position, Android looks for global control through gadgets accessible at lower value focuses. Windows Mobile, albeit developing, isn’t sufficiently developing. We’ve arrived at an obvious impasse in the stage wars. It doesn’t look like there’ll be another contender surging soon of versatile application advancement.
Then again, cell phones are taking things for a twist. What commonly rings a bell when we consider cell phones are iPhones, iPads, one of the various Android gadgets, for example, the always famous Samsung telephone, or Google’s own scope of Nexus telephones and tablets. Notwithstanding, Android gadgets alone range from more than 18,000 unique sorts in the year 2014, as per a review held by Open Signal.
Making applications that work effectively on numerous stages and gadgets is by and by a torment that won’t be permitted to endure. Despite the fact that there is nobody’s size fits all way to deal with portable application improvement, we’ll be seeing an ascent in cross-stage versatile advancement apparatuses. As HTML5 advances and develops, the eventual fate of portable application improvement will likewise utilize it to construct half-breed versatile applications that function admirably across various stages and gadgets.
2. Mobile App Development for the IoT
The fate of versatile application improvement isn’t just with regards to our cell phones and tablets any longer. We’re going solidly into a time of distributed computing fueling Smart-Everything and one wherein our shrewd gadgets don’t just live in separation. Versatile application advancement for the Internet of Things will be considerably greater soon, despite the fact that current endeavors aren’t paying off yet.
With the rising prominence of Android Wear and the tasteful 2015 passage of the Apple Watch into the savvy market, we’re seeing a shift away from telephones and tablets. We’ve just barely begun to take into genuine thought the genuine capability of wearables. However, wearables are nevertheless one of the item classes in which IoT houses.
We’ve seen instances of other IoT items like oneself driving a vehicle by Google, the Nest indoor regulator, the Ring that controls everything, the refrigerator that peruses your tweets, etc. As gadgets begin to settle the score more interconnected, the chance for programming to increase the value of these brilliant gadgets turns out to be ever more prominent. In the end, the opposition between these gadgets will be for the most part dependent on which has the best quality programming. This is the place where the fate of portable application advancement turns into a mine of chance.
This examination by Vision Mobile distributed recently on the condition of versatile application improvement uncovers that about 53% of portable designers are chipping away at IoT projects, with the majority of them doing as such as a pastime or side venture. Portable engineers hoping to get an early ride on this impending wave into the eventual fate of versatile application advancement ought to investigate IoT projects.
3. Tools for Developers
Designers building apparatuses for engineers to assemble yet more instruments? Sounds like a nerdy form of the film Inception, besides with the cast of the Big Bang Theory. The eventual fate of versatile application improvement will see more engineers building-specific apparatuses for designers. The market of portable application advancement apparatuses is now giving indications of expanded development. Useful assets, particularly cross-stage devices that make it simpler for designers to fabricate portable applications, are well on the ascent.
There are outsider apparatuses for pretty much every progression of a versatile designer’s work process, from cloud workers to application investigation. One of the current hotly debated issues being developed instruments to observe is MBaaS or Mobile Backend as a Service. A somewhat new model of cloud administration that empowers engineers to associate and deal with the back-finish of their portable applications through the cloud, MBaaS is a popular quickly developing business. Doubtlessly, we’ll be seeing a greater amount of it is the fate of versatile application advancement that is probably going to be for the most part determined by the cloud.
Another future pattern is the advancement of more intelligent portable profound connecting apparatuses. Albeit not a curiosity in itself, it’ll be energizing to perceive how versatile profound connecting will change the client experience by better interfacing various gadgets or potentially stages, and empower us to find new applications through significant substance on the web.
4. Fast Development
The fate of versatile application improvement will zero in on shortening the existing patterns of creation. This goes connected at the hip with the ascent of outsider instruments that are intended to diminish the dreary work really performed by portable designers today.
With a huge number of applications being delivered each year, the portable application industry turns into a test of skill and endurance. Organizations are unendingly pushing to dispatch applications at the earliest opportunity. Splendid application thoughts must be acknowledged before instead of later because of a paranoid fear of some other contender topping off the market hole before you arrive.
The manner in which we approach versatile application advancement will likewise change with time. We’ve seen it as of now with lean systems, lean UX, and the accentuation on prototyping, testing, and learning prior to building. We’re beginning to work in runs, to approve our items as ahead of schedule as conceivable to accomplish the most extreme addition and negligible loss. The fate of portable application improvement will just see further refinement of such strategies and philosophies on quicker and better advancement cycles.
5. Going Global
Worldwide re-appropriating for portable application advancement will likewise ascend in the coming years, driven predominantly by lower creation costs and the work on nature of administration and improvement presented by organizations and designers seaward. As per a report by ContractIQ, versatile application designers in the US charge a middle of $150 each hour contrasted with roughly $35 in South America and Eastern Europe.
Almost certainly, many have joked the well-known saying that ‘What you pay for is the thing that you get, recommending that lower portable application improvement expenses must be less fortunate quality. Notwithstanding, it is progressively normal information that South American and Eastern European portable engineers are truly fit for delivering quality work, with numerous displaying their first-class abilities on GitHub.
The eventual fate of versatile application advancement will likewise see an ascent in portable applications that assistance to work on the financial status of creating and arising countries. As cell phones become a piece of day-to-day existence for a larger region of the planet, it is without question that versatile innovation will change the social and monetary parts of life in the worldwide creating world. For example, a 2014 UNESCO concentrate on proposed that portable innovation could assist with handling ignorance and further develop schooling in non-industrial nations. Internationally, we anticipate that there will be a push for more versatile applications that could assist with saving day to day routines and work on the nature of lives in agricultural nations.
6. Enterprise Apps
The greatest chances to be found in the eventual fate of versatile application improvement will be endeavor applications instead of customer applications. Why? Basically, it’s simply much harder to extract cash from the shopper. Organizations, then again, are much more able to leave behind their money if the item guarantees them more noteworthy efficiency and diminished general costs.
In any case, versatile application designers are less drawn to building undertaking applications notwithstanding the way that it’s a worthwhile market. This review by Vision Mobile uncovers that practically 50% of versatile venture application designers effectively procure more than $10k each month contrasted with just 19% of engineers who work exclusively on purchaser applications. Doubtlessly, we’ll see a more noteworthy number of versatile designers focusing on undertakings in the coming years.
We provide the best mobile app development service

Pixel 5a review: The 4a 5G wasn't broken, so Google didn't fix it
youtube
The Pixel 6 is just around the corner. But before Google brings it and its Tensor mobile chip to market, the company is updating its entry level offering with the $449 Pixel 5a. The whole point of the “a” family is to offer the basics at a reasonable price without sacrificing too much of the Pixel experience in the process. That means a relatively clean version of Android with a bunch of AI tricks and a heavy focus on photography.
But apparently Google feels like it more or less nailed that formula with the Pixel 4a 5G because the 5a is basically the same phone. (Note: The Pixel 5a is not a direct successor to the 4a, which was a much smaller device.) There are some differences — notably the addition of IP67 waterproofing — but most of the tweaks are extremely minor. Even the processor and RAM haven’t changed. So, if we said you could do better way back in October of 2020, what does that mean for the 5a in the fall of 2021?
Well, it makes the Pixel 5a about as unexciting as a phone can be, for one. But look, boring isn’t necessarily bad. Especially when you’re talking about the mid and lower tiers of the smartphone market. For one, keeping things staid allows Google to focus its efforts on battery life and performance optimization. And just like the last generation of Pixels, the 5a feels pretty responsive despite the aging Snapdragon 765G inside. That said, the 765G wasn’t exactly top of the line last year, and it’s starting to show its limits. While scrolling through the UI and doing simple things like reading email and sending text messages, the 5a is indistinguishable from any flagship device. It even handles most mobile games without a hiccup. I spent some time playing The Elder Scrolls: Blades and Wild Castle and the phone barely broke a sweat.
But, I did notice it stutter a few times while navigating YouTube, editing photos and jotting down my thoughts for this review in Evernote. The latter I could easily chalk up to Evernote’s questionable development over the last few years, but the pauses while switching to fullscreen in YouTube and swapping filters in Google Photos are a bit more concerning.
Terrence O'Brien / Engadget
The plus side of going with something a bit older and lower-powered (not to mention with an integrated 5G modem) is power efficiency. The 4a 5G was already something of a beast, lasting over 17 hours in our battery drain test before our reviews editor Cherlynn Low simply gave up and moved on with her life. That device had a 3,885mAh battery. The 5a has a 4,680mAh cell. It took 22 hours and 56 of playing a video on loop at 50-brightness before it finally powered down.
After 24 hour of heavy usage — playing games, repeatedly running 5G speed tests, installing apps, watching videos on YouTube and even letting it play sleep sounds overnight — the battery was still at 40 percent. It didn’t finally crap out until almost 2AM on day two. And if you turn on Extreme Battery Saver, things could get even more absurd. I’m fairly confident that under normal use you could get a full 48 hours out of the Pixel 5a before needing to find an outlet.
Battery life isn’t the only difference between the 5a and 4a 5G: The new phone is also IP67 rated for water and dust resistance. At a time when many smartphones have at least some form of water resistance the Pixel 4a 5G was sort of a disappointment. In fact, the lack of waterproofing was one of the big cons called out in our review. But the Pixel 5a should easily survive getting caught in the rain or if you drop it in a toilet. It can withstand being submerged in water up to one meter deep for 30 minutes, but I wouldn’t push this to its limits. Definitely don’t go swimming with it in your pocket.
Terrence O'Brien / Engadget
The last difference between the Pixel 5a and the 4a 5G is in the size and construction, but it’s subtle. The 5a has a metal unibody as opposed to a polycarbonate one. The texture is still matte and similar to the softtouch of the previous models, though, and the upgrade to Gorilla Glass 6 from Gorilla Glass 3 is notable, but you’ll never notice the difference in daily use. The 5a comes in one finish: Mostly Black. Some might find the look a little dull, and it’s certainly on the utilitarian side, but I quite liked the feel of the phone. The finish is a nice contrast to the seemingly endless sea of smooth glassy surfaces and the heft is just right, too.
The 5a is ever so slightly larger and heavier, but you’re talking about a few millimeters and grams. Even if you had a Pixel 4a 5G in one hand and a Pixel 5a in the other you’d be hard pressed to figure out which is which.
The change in size mostly comes down to the slightly larger screen. The OLED panel on the 5a is 6.34 inches, versus 6.2 inches on the 4a 5G. Otherwise, though, the screens are basically the same. The increased resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 makes up for the size difference so they both have a density of 413 ppi. Both also sport a contrast ratio of 100,000:1 and support HDR and are stuck at now outdated 60Hz. And both are just bright enough to use in direct sunlight, though high brightness mode is definitely a necessity if you’re watching a video outdoors.
Even the holepunch for the front-facing camera is in the same place. That said, I appreciated Google’s “for fun” wallpapers that camouflage the hole by incorporating it into the design. My favorite is the record player where the camera becomes the hole at the center of an LP.
That 8-megapixel front-facing camera, by the way, is one of the weak points of the 5a. It does the job in perfect lighting and for video calls. But details can be a bit soft, in low light it gets noisy and portrait mode is hit or miss. Overall, I found Google’s portrait feature to be a bit too aggressive even on the main camera. You can easily adjust the blur and depth after the fact, but the default settings could stand to be more subtle.
The selfie cam, though, is the same one found on the Pixel 4a 5G, so none of this is a surprise. In fact, all of the cameras are the same. The two sensors around the rear, however, are much better than the one on the front. There’s a 12.2-megapixel main shooter with optical image stabilization and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. They have a somewhat “moody” vibe when compared to shots from an iPhone or a Galaxy device, but they’re not obviously inferior. And even though images taken with the wide-angle lens can get a little fuzzy if you start zooming in on details, Google’s processing does an admirable job of minimizing barrel distortion. Google isn’t at the top of the smartphone camera heap anymore, but it’s not far off and photography is still an undeniable strong suit of the Pixel family.
Terrence O'Brien / Engadget
There’s nothing new to report, though. It’s the same set of excellent photography features that you got last year: Portrait lighting can help clean up and add some contrast to photos of people (but sadly not pets — the option only appears if a human face is detected). Night Sight turns on automatically in dim lighting and at times produces mind-blowing results. And the video stabilization modes are excellent. Cinematic Pan, which combines slow motion with super smooth movement, is especially fun.
Also, just like every other “a” model Pixel, this one has a headphone jack. All I can say is: That’s great, now please bring the headphone jack back to flagship phones. I know I’m not the only person clamoring for it. And it drives me nuts that the only way to get an old-school 3.5mm jack on my phone is to go down market.
Terrence O'Brien / Engadget
One last thing to mention: The actual full name of the phone is the Pixel 5a with 5G. So, guess what, it supports 5G connectivity. That’s not really surprising since the Snapdragon 765G has an integrated 5G modem. Unlike the Pixel 4a 5G, however, there is no mmWave variant of the 5a. And, although technically it’s capable of C-Band support, it’s currently not enabled and Google wouldn’t commit to adding support in the future. That’s not a huge deal at the moment since there are no active C-Band networks in the US yet. But it might irk some when AT&T and Verizon start flipping the switch, likely sometime later this year. That said, full C-Band rollout isn’t expected to happen until at least late 2023.
Those caveats out of the way, 5G still seems stuck in a state of arrested development. I tested the Pixel 5a using Google Fi, which essentially means I was on T-Mobile’s network and speeds were all over the place. In my home, it was often slower than Verizon’s LTE network, averaging around 35mbps down. (Note: Verizon is Engadget’s parent company… for now.) But two and half miles up the road at a local Subaru dealership I was routinely getting over 300mbps down, topping out at 370mbps.
Terrence O'Brien / Engadget
Of course, 5G and excellent cameras aren’t a rarity at this price any more. Mid-tier phones have come a long way over the last few years. The problem for Google is, it no longer clearly “owns the midrange.” Part of that is down to price. While the 5a is $50 cheaper than the 4a 5G, it’s not the obvious bargain that the 4a was at $350. If it was even just $50 cheaper still, the 5a would be a much easier sell at $399.
The Samsung A52 5G is slightly more expensive at $500 (though regularly on sale for less) and has a slower Snapdragon 750G SoC. But, its Super AMOLED screen clearly outclasses the Pixel’s and has a 120Hz refresh rate. Plus, its camera system is much sharper and feature-packed (but that doesn’t necessarily mean “better”). In addition to a primary camera and ultra-wide shooter, there’s a macro lens and a depth sensor that helps with portrait mode. While both the A52 and 5a ship with 128GB of storage, the Samsung has an advantage in that it has a microSD card slot.
Then there’s the OnePlus Nord N2 5G. It has a trio of cameras around the back, including a 50-megapixel primary sensor, an AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, and up to 12GB of RAM. Then again, it has a MediaTek processor, which you rarely see in phones in the US and with good reason: They’re not exactly known for their high-end performance. But perhaps more importantly, you’re highly unlikely to be making a choice between the Nord N2 and the Pixel 5a since the former isn’t available in the US, and the later is only available in the US and Japan.
Of course, if you’re more of an iOS fan, the obvious comparison would seem to be the iPhone SE. It’s the same price as the Pixel 5a for a 128GB model, but it does feel quite a bit dated. It still uses the old iPhone 8 form factor with a Touch ID home button instead of Face ID, it's positively miniscule at 4.7 inches and doesn’t support 5G. Frankly, if you’re dead set on iOS, I might suggest saving your pennies and springing for the $699 iPhone 12 mini.
So, no, Google doesn’t “own the midrange” any more. The Pixel 5a is almost aggressively boring, but it’s not bad. If you want the Pixel experience and don’t want to break the bank, this is the way to go. But if you’re just looking for the best bang for your buck, the choice is far less clear.

Telemedicine App Development To-Do List
Telemedicine app development services have become pretty important for quality healthcare in the current scenario. Remote healthcare needs a proper app, and there are a number of important factors that just cannot be overlooked for a HIPAA compliant app. We take a look. In recent times, there has been a huge spike in the usage of telemedicine app technology to make healthcare accessible to all. With the coronavirus pandemic disrupting the normal things in life, there has been an added need to harness the power of technology to ensure that proper health does not take a hit.
Telemedicine is being adopted by more and more users everyday. Statistics from Getstream reveal that about 74% of millennial audiences like and prefer to use virtual healthcare for getting their treatment.
Telemedicine app development solutions
provide the road to just that- through making remote healthcare a convenient delight for everyone.
Tumblr media
The Idea of Telemedicine The basic concept behind telemedicine has always been pretty simple- that the users are able to receive healthcare in the best way possible, and that the health providers succeed in providing accurate diagnosis and treatment as well. The entire consultation between a doctor and patient takes place through video conferencing on the telemedicine app. This makes it pretty important to have the perfect technology that is seamless in almost every use case.
As of now, telemedicine apps provide solutions on a basic level, but when it comes to technology, there’s always room for a lot of improvement. Telemedicine apps of the future will be able to perform their functions in a more seamless and efficient way.
To-Do List For Telemedicine While there is a long way to go for telemedicine apps, there are a lot of things that can be set straight right from the initial stages. Yes, a lot of the decisions will depend on the kind of experimentation and value a telemedicine app holds, but there are certain practices that can help in coming up with an industry-leading solution.
Initial Conceptualization and Planning
Right in the initial stages of development, a number of important decisions take place without a single word of technical development actually underway. Feature lists, support, and advanced features needed to be built from ground up are worked upon right at the conceptualization stage. Extensive research is the key here so that your feature list includes as many cutting-edge features as possible. After all, any telemedicine app development company should be able to tackle the issues of medical professionals and patients in the same manner. Becoming sure of these aspects will make it easier and more convenient to avoid all future delays, just in case.
Compatibility for Different Platforms
Platform support and programming languages are two things that need to be thought about vividly, once you have your target audience and budget in the right place. A little buffer will not be a bad thing too, as some costs need to rise a little during the development process. With the languages and other technical requirements fixed properly, it becomes easy to look for developers with the proficiency to make things happen for you. As most people are aware, the three main platforms would be Android, iOS and web- but given the scale of operations and degree of expertise needed for operations, a web-based telemedicine solution is the best bet. To add to it, a web-browser based version is also going to save a lot of costs as well.
Not to Rush the UI and Prototyping
Development processes are too quick today. This is the reason why it’s crucial to let things breathe a little. It will surely be tempting to rush with the prototyping phase and make decisions on intuition, rather than the feedback of actual users. The approach will do a lot more harm than good. In the case of telemedicine apps, there will never be a complete awareness about who the end-user of the telemedicine app might be. It can be a child or also an aged patient, who may not be able to make efficient communication. This is why the UI and UX test cycles need to be pretty thorough, with basic things like design, layout, and menu navigation being simple enough to make them at home, in terms of the app's overall usability.
Complete Data Security
Data security is an absolute must for any telemedicine app. Medical history, issues, duration of treatment, and multiple other information is highly crucial and needs to be kept secure in an app. A big reason to do this is the strict HIPAA policies as well. The HIPAA policies are a very tricky bunch, and they generally tend to confine the creativity of development teams to create a compliant app. All the uploaded data and its safety need to be taken pretty seriously. Every single step should be taken to ensure proper storage and management of information within the app. Multi-factor and biometric authentication are two highly feasible ways to empower the app’s data security. Conclusion Telemedicine is a technology that’s comparatively young but has immense potential to change the entire way through which healthcare is delivered. With multiple companies realizing its capabilities, it’s not going to be easy to develop a telemedicine app that is a cut above the rest. With proper planning, however, it can be done. The above factors can prove to be very integral to develop a nice, comprehensive package that is in line with both- the latest features with creativity, and also arrives in the market while an increased relevance stays on the cards. Consagous Technologies is a leading telemedicine app development company, that has been providing great telemedicine solutions to clients all over the world for more than a decade. With its experience and a team of skilled individuals, your idea can get the best results with their association with your project.

Mikunology File #6: Kagamine Rin
OK, to make up for the lack of Halloween fanart, I decided to try and actually get out a new Mikunology File/Info Post! It’s been a while, anyway.
So, like the last Mikunology File about Miku, this time we will be talking about Rin, my personal favorite and our token lancer! Strap yourselves in, folks, because BOY do I have some headcanons for this character.
Info under the cut! (WARNING: Lots of ranting. I’m very passionate about this one.)
So, about Rin--Rin is the second-in-command and main muscle of the team, as well as one half of the Character Vocal Series Model 02 (designation CV02-R) opposite her twin brother Len. With her brother, Rin unwittingly starts the more actiony part of Vocal Android’s plotline by completing her road roller transformer mecha, and joins her “sister” and best friend Miku on her musical journeys across Japan and the globe. Rin often finds herself getting more into trouble as a heroine rather than just a Vocaloid due to her thirst for adventure, but is just as important as Miku in the grand scheme of the premise.
Personality/Portrayal
I’ve also made little notes about Rin’s personality on this blog before, but let’s get more specific, shall we?
Let’s start our description of Rin with a description of her by Len: Rin is like the sun, essentially. She’s big, and bright, and warm, and fiery, so much so her light tends to blind people. Rin is cheerful, grandiose, and absurdly energetic, with a constant desire for excitement and thrills. She has a skip in her step and a flame in her eyes, and she’s not afraid to go and show the world what’s she made of, whether it wants her to or not. You could call her more than a little abrasive. But she’s pretty silly, mischievous and non-serious most of the time, especially compared to her always-serious brother, and really, all she likes is to have fun and spread her music. She’s also quite the hard-worker when something catches her fancy, but otherwise she’s a lazy bum--her attention span is very selective.
However, Rin is one of the most notably flawed characters in the main team, for more than a few reasons. Rin is quite self-assured and proud to be herself, but she can be quite selfish, prideful, and arrogant, often getting too caught up in being “the star” or “the hero” to the detriment of the rest of the team. She’s very much fueled by emotion and drive and tends to go too far with things, even if her intentions were initially harmless, and she acts before it even occurs to her she needs to think first. And while her stubbornness and refusal to give in can be one of her best qualities, she tends to ignore warnings about the consequences of her actions, and sometimes only focuses on herself and what she wants over what others want, even her brother. There have even been times where she’s been unabashedly rude to Len, as rare of an occurrence that may be (that usually ends with her regretting it).
Though, while Rin may not be perfect and do the above things listed, she does try her best to learn from her mistakes and fix them, and then go on to try to do better. As much of a ball of fire she may be, she usually tries to use her stubborn warmth to help people, as while she can get caught up in herself, she shares Miku and Len’s dislike for seeing others unhappy. She always stands up for herself and her friends and family, and if you give any of her loved ones heck on her watch she won’t hesitate to defend them. She absolutely refuses to be pessimistic or hopeless (or let anyone else be that way), and would rather fight for her world rather than stand down and let others take it. She’s very much headstrong, and deep down inside, very much a loving soul.
Abilities
Since they’re from the same series of androids you can look back to Miku’s post for some of Rin’s basic abilities (her singing voice, flight, durability, download, etc.) but here I will describe the ones Rin has to herself.
Super strength. Unlike Miku, who is more a jack-of-all-trades in the combat department, Rin’s more prominent specialty is her immense strength, from a source currently unknown. While her strength hasn’t been measured exactly quite yet, to give you an idea, Rin was capable of nearly smashing in her own road roller when it went haywire.
Shockwave clap. A technique Rin learned by playing around with audio allowed her to use her strength and amps to perform a shockwave clap as a backup for her voice. It’s super effective!
Technological prowess. While Rin tends to be a little lazy about it, Rin really knows her machines. Along with the modification of her road roller, Rin is talented at fixing and modifying vehicles and other engine-run machines of similar caliber. She also knows fairly well about robots and is capable of tinkering with simple ones.
Musical prowess. Of course, though compared to Miku, Rin’s greatest instrumental strengths are with guitar (especially electric guitar) and grand piano.
Equipment
Rin is very much big on equipment compared to the rest of the team, even Len. Mostly because, who doesn’t like messing around with cool weaponry all the time? Plus, she usually knows how to handle it best next to Gumi and Meiko. This list is open to change as I come up with ideas.
Her arm sleeves. Like Miku, her most common piece of equipment next to her trademark headphones and hair ribbon. They’re computerized and allow Rin to access all her song data, information, voicebanks/libraries and system menu. She can also video call via hologram with it, and record sounds with it.
Her headphones. Rin’s headphones function most often as normal headphones and a secondary on/off switch. They can also function as a sort of audio-based walkie talkie, letting Rin contact her siblings and the other Cryptons.
Road roller (aka “Josephine”). Rin’s special Yellow Car, the great, the terrifying original road roller “borrowed” from a nearby construction site. Rin has specially modified it to go faster than your average road roller, thus making it the perfect flashy transporter for her and her brother. She also edited it to be a Transformer, pretty much, becoming a pilotable mecha with various functions.
The Rinmobile. A secondary method of transport created by Rin, a small motorbike outfitted with a small version of a road roller’s front wheel and a couple of other adjustments. Rin rides it when she needs quick (and not as flashy) transport across town when not carpooling with the others.
Bonus Headcanons
Rin’s bow tends to emote with her.
She is described as tsundere.
Rin has a special place in her room filled with orange-themed collectibles, like hackey-sacks, bean bags, orange candy, toys, and the like. Rin calls it her collection, Len calls it her “orange shrine”.
She loves Pokemon games. Unsurprisingly, her favorite is Pikachu.
Her absolute worst fear is losing Len, especially because of something she did.
She draws manga of her own adventures in her off time. She’s hoping to be able to publish it.
She’s really good at making sweets and desserts, but not so much at regular meals.
Inspiration Songs
Some songs I used to help characterize my Rin are “RING×RING×RING” (especially this one, it’s basically my Rin in a nutshell), “RinRin HIGH MIND”, “Sweet Magic”, “Bucchigiri ni Shite Ageru”, “I Like You, I Love You”, “Do RinRinRin”, and “Princess Cowgirl Show”. For anyone curious, of course.
