Personal AU Story - “You.”
|”YOU.”| PERSONAL AU STORY LINK/PRINCE SIDON (This was written by me, remember...expect typos and errors.) ... "I...wanted you to have something." Sidon says, suddenly arising to his feet as a couple of the Kings aides come into the throne room. Dorephan had left a few moments before, so their presence was rather unexpected. "...a gift of sorts."
Link can't stop the sigh that escapes him when he turns to see one of the aides had a blade to the Prince, who inspects it for a moment. "...you really need to stop giving me things."
"I know." Sidon smirks as he looks over the blades scabbard, nodding a silent thank you to the aides who move over to either side of the throne room entrance. He turns on the spot and holds it in his hands. "But this one was crafted before you enforced that particular request upon me."
Any reluctance to accept the gift vanishes from the Inheritor the moment he sees the blade. Beautifully crafted to someone his size and engraved with a mixture of Hylian and Zoran designs.
"Okay..." he says to himself, letting you a breathy laugh, his right hand coming up and resting gently on the scabbard. "Perhaps I'll make an exception just this once."
"I thought you might." Sidon beams, letting him take it from him. He watches as Link's metallic left hand grasps the grip and pulls the blade slowly from the scabbard. "It's taken Ledo a good year or two to perfect the designs I gave him."
"You designed this?" Link asks, holding the blade up. It was extremely light in his hand, though most blades were for him. After a certain amount of time it became less about weight and more about balance. The Guard was the most impressive part, a large sapphire stone in the middle of it, almost transparent and as blue as the white sea on a clear day. "It's beautiful."
"I'm glad you think so." Sidon nods his head, before breaking into a quiet laugh. "Ledo now owes me 50 rupees."
"Trust you to make a bet over this." Link shakes his head, before slotting the Sword back into it's scabbard. "Thank you...truly. This wasn't necessary, but I can't complain either."
"I wanted to give you something you can call your own." Sidon says. "You once told me you had an interest in Zoran weaponry. What better gift than a blade of your own?"
"You always know how to spoil me, don't you?" Link reaches up with his right hand and bops him on the dark red patch of scales at the base of his head-fin, between his eyes.
...
"...what's this?" Zelda asks suddenly, out of the comfortable silence. "A new blade?"
"Oh that?" Link lowers his arm, the interface above it flickering away. "Yeah. Sidon gave it me...he said it was a gift. For what I don't know."
"It's beautiful." she smiles as she picks it up from. "Custom made too..."
"It's the right size for me." Link comments, standing up and pacing over to her. "And as light as a feather."
He takes it carefully from her and pulls the blade from the scabbard. As he comments on the designs around the grip and the guard, her eyes track to the large sapphire in the center of it. It was expertly cut, and almost totally transparent.
"...my goodness." she breathes. "Is that a Royal Sapphire in the guard?"
"What?" Link glances her way, cut-off mid ramble. "I don't know. I'm not an expert on gemstones. The only ones that have any meaning to me are the currency types."
"Tell me, Link." Zelda tilts her head, realization starting to dawn on her. "Where did Sidon gift you this blade? Were you in private?"
"No." Link shakes his head. "We were just finishing up with that business to do with Tarrey Town, and the King had just left-"
"Were there any officials present?"
"Apart from Sidon himself?" Link asks, eyes narrowing as he recalls the scene. "A couple of the Kings staff...that's about it..."
He shrugs. "Why do you ask?"
"..." Zelda stares at him, her eyes widening slightly.
"What?" he tilts his head this time. "What is it?"
"...look at the stone again." she instructs, pointing to the sapphire. "Do you know what that is?"
"It's a ...Royal Sapphire." Link guesses. "Is that what you called it?"
"Exactly." she nods. "And why are they called Royal Sapphires, Link?"
"Because they are mined and cut especially for the Royal Family, I'd presume." the Inheritor raises an eyebrow. "Unless they stole them off of your ancestors."
"And what are sapphires commonly used as in the Zoran Royal Court?" Zelda asks next. She watches him think for a second. "Come on, I know Sidon has told you about the traditions at some point. He's anything but subtle."
"I think it had something to do with courting?" Link hums thoughtfully. "But that makes no sense considering we're already-"
He cuts himself off a little too late. "...um...forget you heard that."
"Royal Sapphires are brought out on the occasion that a member of the Royal Family wishes to marry." Zelda explains, watching as the realization transfers from her to him in the space of a few words. "A Prince or Princess will usually gift their chosen partners the Sapphire, often incorporating it into something, such as a set of armor, or a piece of jewelry..."
She sighs, gesturing to the blade in his hands. "Or in this case...a blade, the perfect size and weight for the person meant to wield it."
"..." Link stares at the blade, namely the Sapphire within its hilt. For the first time since meeting Avos he was transfixed, unable to take his eyes off of it.
"Whatever is going on between you two..." he snaps out of his daze as Zelda places a hand on his left shoulder. "I think it's much deeper than you first thought."
...
"...that's the last time I ever trust you to take the night-watch with me." Bazz laughs, following Sidon through the palace barracks hallways out onto the plaza. "I've already got problems with my sleep cycles."
"Well you did invite me in." Sidon shrugs, smiling tiredly. "And Tarquin was sharing his mothers vintage. How could I say no to any of that?"
"Any excuse to get wasted, huh?" Bazz reaches over and knocks his left arm. "I should have known it was about the booze."
"I'm not allowed to get as hammered at banquets and official engagements as I do with you boys." Sidon muses. "It's an excuse for me to let my hair down."
"You don't have hair." Bazz laughs again. "You're a guppy, not a Hylian."
"I wish I was a Hylian." Sidon mumbles under his breath. "Would make certain activities much less complicated."
"Speaking of Hylians." Bazz's hand hits him, much more gently this time, on his arm. Prompting him to look up, only to see Link standing there, staring at him. "Oh...what are you doing here?"
Link doesn't say anything. Instead he raises his left hand, revealing the Sapphire from the blade he'd been gifted. Bazz let's out a shallow gasp as he sees it.
"...where in all of Solae did you get that from?" he asks, only to realize it a little too late, and turn his attention to the Prince. "No way..."
"You didn't tell me about the Sapphires." Link says, slowly pacing closer to them. "...about the marriage part."
"I assume you already knew." Sidon's smile had disappeared. "And it was only a matter of time before you realized it and came back."
"Me." Link states, his other hand coming up to his chest-plate, tapping it.
"You." Sidon nods.
"Why?" Link asks suddenly.
"Why else?" Sidon shrugs again.
"I had no idea that you-" Link huffs a sigh, lowering his gaze. "I wasn't aware that you thought anything of this...of our-"
"-I think everything of it." Sidon states as the Inheritor stops in front of him. "Every waking second of my existence is driven by the love you have shown me, and the adoration I feel for you."
He slowly lowers himself onto one knee, and reaches out to take a hold of his right hand. "Against all the odds, and all the trials that this world has thrown our way. I have found myself unable to let go of you...When you quite literally fell into my world a few years ago, Link...you became my world."
He sighs. "I don't know what compelled me to have such faith in you. But I was not proven wrong. When you freed us from the grips of Vah Rutah and slayed the blight that took my sister from me...that faith was sealed, with all of the love and admiration that I feel for you now. You are my world, Link...and it would be the honor of my life, if you were to let me be yours."
Link suddenly looks up at him. "Why would you assume that you aren't?"
"I don't assume anything." Sidon replies, shaking his head slowly. "I just...wanted to hear to you say it."
Without any more words, he reaches up to the Inheritor's shoulder and closes the distance between them, sealing it all with a kiss on the mouth.
"Holy shit..." a voice suddenly startles them both out of the moment. They both come to the realization that Bazz had just witnessed the whole scene play out. "And so ends 3 years of speculation and gossiping."
Link cracks up, whilst Sidon just stares at his old friend, eyes wide.
"I can't tell you how awesome it makes me feel to be the one to break this to everyone." he says, beaming. "Oh I can see Lord Muzu's face already."
And with that, Sidon breaks too, letting out a loud bark of laughter.

Subtleties of a Suitor (Part 1 of 2)
Summary: Pre-calamity AU where Zelda’s powers awaken in time, but not everything is back to normal after Calamity Ganon is defeated.
Note: This is all @intangiblyyourswrites‘s fault. Also, the second part is NSFW -which also happens to be Kristie’s fault. Enjoy!
--------------------
Scrawling ink coated the underside of her hand and left light imprints on the edge of the paper. That paper was bound within leather covers that rarely left the Princess’s desk. It was a journal of upmost confidence; containing her deepest secrets and cresting moments of happiness. The highs and lows of her life caught between compressed papyrus.
It was hardly secretive that her lows were concentrated in the years before, caught in the repetitive cycle of failing expectations that were handed down to her from birth. This desk and this journal were Princess Zelda’s small reprieve. Even going as far as referring to it as an old friend because it felt better to write with purpose than to speak nothings into a void.
My dearest friend,
A worry line creased her forehead. The nameless friend was so accustomed to moments of happiness nowadays, it felt alarming to her that she was writing with distress once more.
These days have been nothing short of harrowing. In my last letter, I was convinced that he finally understood my intentions after Calamity Ganon was sealed away. I thought-
She paused her pen strokes and glared at the page, willing herself to connect thoughts to words and words to paper.
We don’t meet anymore, we haven’t since before the monster was sealed away. Even though the night prior haunted my dreams for weeks following my expressed wishes to cease these small moments of privacy. No matter how sweet and innocent they could be. As you know, in my heart of hearts I can’t bind him to me when-
When Zelda could never be his. When, in times of great enlightenment and prosperity, their fates have crossed and her father now sees him only as a valuable combatant in his army. When destinies have been fulfilled and they were no use to one another.
They both knew this in the beginning, but with the veil of ignorance and Zelda’s everflowing failure, she was convinced they were fated to die with the kingdom. It was a simple case of action and reaction. If she didn’t unlock her sealing powers, then Calamity Ganon would not be defeated.
The knowledge most likely drew out their passion. Pages upon pages recounted shaky hands and blushing cheeks that glowed hot and bright against starry skies. A string of months where she felt more warm than she had ever been and more loved than she thought she deserved.
Then, a week after the Calamity, when Link was pressing her against the railing of an empty stairwell far from the celebratory festivities, she broke their kiss after her guilt grew too heavy for her chest to bear. Zelda will never be able to forget the unmasked hurt on his face as she thickly told him that they couldn’t do this anymore. Among it all, Zelda told him she loved him.
I was under the impression he understood. Father offered Link a promotion and he didn’t even wait a day to think about it. The next evening another man was waiting by my door and of course it shocked me. A part of me wanted to be belligerent when Link hadn’t bothered to ask, another part was more than understanding. But now?
Now I’m rethinking everything.
It started two weeks ago.
The court was lively. Since Calamity Ganon’s appearance and subsequent defeat, Hyrule Castle had its fair share of celebrations. Three months later, the Zora was being hosted within its walls. Without looming dread over her head, Princess Zelda found herself in more social circles. The Zoran princess and Champion, Mipha, became an especially close contact. As opposing as the two princesses were, they had cultivated a solid friendship. Zelda assisted Mipha with fitting into Hylian customs and Mipha was a fantastic listener.
“Link hasn’t said anything about it to me,” Mipha said gently, swinging her little brother in her arms. Prince Sidon made a disgruntled noise and reached out towards Zelda once more.
The small prince smoothed the trouble in her brow as she heaved him in her arms. “Well maybe it’s for the best. We should both move on.”
They were taking turns about the court, trying to spend the dying summer days. Sidon giggled and reached out to his sister.. Mipha seemed to be debating what to say before opting for nothing at all and looked across the room. Her Hylian companion followed her gaze to find Link communing with her father and few other Zora. It was typical for him to parade around the Hero of Hyrule as if he were some trophy.
“I don’t know, Zelda,” Mipha softly said beside her. A joke from Link made the group laugh and suddenly the blond caught her eye. As if stung, Zelda looked at the marble tiles in front of her. She scorned herself when her mind would drift from the fact that he wasn’t wearing his Champion’s Tunic. “His burden is lifted, yes, but it’s not like him to so easily let go of someone.”
When Zelda didn’t respond, Mipha tried to reassure her. “I could be wrong. If anything, we can refer to Lady Urbosa.”
As they walked, they soon found themselves amongst a throng of Zoran and Hylian ladies who began to gossip about the affluential bachelors in the room. Although she was physically there with polite smiles galore, her head was miles from the court. There was something about wealth they were talking about when all went silent.
“Master Link!” a woman exclaimed, “What a pleasant surprise!”
Suddenly, Zelda was back with slight vertigo. The group moved from her and began asking a dizzying amount of questions.
“Tell us, how frightful was that monster?”
An excited Zoran was nearing jumping out of her draped fabrics. “Heavens! Recall to us how you slayed the dreadful Calamity Ganon, please sir.”
“Oh goodness, Catherine, not with my weak nerves.”
Why hadn’t they asked Zelda those questions? She was there too!
The man seemed caught up in the storm of women and it occurred to Zelda that she had the opportunity to slip away amongst the chaos. Right when she discreetly bid Mipha goodbye, Link began speaking.
“You’re all too kind. I’m afraid I’m not a very good storyteller,” he wore a graceful smile, but she could see the anxiety behind his eyes. She knew him. Then, she saw the skies in his eyes and any desire to leave dissipated. “I can tell you that Princess Zelda saved my life.”
All eyes fell on her and she felt the acute urge to stare at her feet. Her voice sounded foreign, “You say the most fantastic hyperboles, Captain.”
Those were the first words she has said to him beyond common pleasantries in three months.
“I assure you that there was no embellishment in the slightest.” Link was looking at her along with the rest of the ladies.
“Ah, well,” Zelda trailed off, “It was only fair when you saved mine.”
That caused a sea of hushed whispers around them. The woman that separated them spoke up excitedly, “Will you allow us a story or two, sir?”
“My apologies, I should be off to the barracks right now,” Link said, meeting her again. “I came to bid Her Highness goodbye.”
Another wave of whispers as the woman between them shuffled off quickly. Confusion ebbed at the Princess, but refined manners kept it at bay. Link reached out to her and she instinctively offered her hand, but his fingers grazed the underside of her forearm, the tips of his glove brushing down its length before finally clasping her palm. As he bent down low, he held her gaze, and it felt like they were the only people in the room. Warm lips pressed a long, searing kiss to her hand, and it revived the sensation of those same lips drifting up the inside of her thighs.
He pulled back, “You look lovely this evening, Princess. I hope we cross paths again.”
Zelda’s lips drew tight together and she nodded chastely, not trusting her voice to speak. Footsteps on marbled signified his leave and she looked at Mipha, who stared back with bewilderment. The two princesses thought the same question.
What was that?
Her ink quill scratched against the paper from added pressure, she readjusted her grip.
I thought about it for the rest of the evening. That one moment dredged up emotions I spent weeks burying. Logically, I had chalked it up to basic biology; chemicals in my brain that were ultimately a hindrance to my responsibilities. For a few hours, that had worked until I found out that that night would be the first of many where he would bid me goodnight.
The next day was no better because Father decided he was honored enough to dine with us.
“I’m so glad you can join us, Captain!” King Rhoam boisterously said. “There is a seat next to Princess Zelda.”
The woman stared holes into her empty plate as the chair beside her grated against the floor. When her father coughed to clear his throat she glanced up, “Isn’t it nice that he has joined us, Zelda?”
“Oh, yes,” she smiled tightly, hardly meeting their eyes. “It’s good to see you, Link.”
Her hands folded tightly in her lap. Zelda didn’t hear him reply, so she assumed he demonstrated his signature nod. Perhaps he didn’t want to be there either. Before the Calamity, he was never permitted to sit at the royal table, much less next to the princess. He was a simple soldier then, she reminded herself, someone with promise. Princess Zelda assumed this was another way for her father to show off the Hero of Hyrule to the lords and ladies at the table.
The thought made her bite the inside of her cheek. Didn’t he deserve better? Had he been asked what he wanted?
Supper crawled by painfully. Typically, she didn’t mind if someone sat by her but she hadn’t realized how common it was to brush arms with a neighbor. Each time they touched, she’d involuntarily flinch away. Sometimes he would mumble his apologies that were a little too close to her ear.
Like all things, the torture ceased and as Zelda was about to excuse herself, dessert was announced.
“Where are you off to?” Link said, watching as she was already half-risen from her chair.
The Princess swallowed her curses. “I’m excusing myself,” she lilted, not quite leveling with him. “A lady should keep her figure.”
It was a bold-faced lie. She knew that he knew she loved sweets and would easily endure three courses of her most hated dishes to reach them. Zelda dared him to say anything. The door to the kitchen swung open and revealed several servants. Her father suddenly eyed her oddly, “Are you not planning to stay? I requested fruitcake for this evening on your behalf.”
Oh.
Link looked away as she flopped back in her seat. Despite the rolling in her stomach, her cheeks flared in embarrassment and she rushed to say, “Thank you, Father.”
As much as Zelda wished it would, the issue hadn’t immediately folded. When a large cake was placed on the table, she had the full intention of taking the slice to her room under the guise of studying a fallen Guardian’s laser module. It would be an easy solution to this problem. The cake knife was in her field of view and she went for it, only for another’s to brush her hand away.
With accusation in her eyes, Zelda watched the smallest smile - almost unnoticeable - cross Link’s face.
“What are you doing?” she said under her breath, glancing around the table to assure no one was watching. It hadn’t seemed to be the case, but this was exactly what she didn’t want. The Princess knew this court and though they’re opinion of her had shifted, the lords and ladies would cling to any rumor no matter how innocent his actions were.
His eyes were carefully guarded and if he had been anyone else, she would have been offended by how large the slice of fruitcake was when he set it on her plate . Right when she moved to stand, he caught her with his words.
“Who is it that has you caring about the way you look?”
At the head of the table, King Rhoam was laughing at something an advisor said. By now, it would look uncouth to leave the table mid-course. With a heavy breath, Princess Zelda pulled her chair in and spread her napkin over her skirts. The cake was layered with lemon icing, which would usually make her exponentially excited. Her lips upturned into a soft frown. He shouldn’t ask questions like that. It wasn’t fair.
Annoyance surged into her chest. “Does it matter?”
He was quiet for a moment and conversations from others dominated the air between them. The fruitcake tasted stale in her mouth.
“Yes.”
She wasn’t looking at him - she couldn’t. A stirring feeling lodged itself in her throat and threatened to bring about everything she tried to undo. Memories of laughing so hard in Hyrule Field, doubled over in her saddle from something ridiculous he had said; learning in that moment that he looked at her like she was the moon on a cloudless night; his hands twirling her into a circle besides a campfire to the sound of her humming ballroom tunes.
He had asked me if I fell out of love with him or he had hurt me in some way. I hadn’t and I wasn’t then and I am not now. It wasn’t just about me, but him as well. If it came out to the court, to the public, that we were having an affair, of course I would be criticized. My character put into question and subsequently tarnished for as long as it stayed in the minds of my peers, but nothing would happen to my title. I would still be the Princess of Hyrule.
Link would be scrutinized and his reputation ruined. He could be subject to expellment and be banished from the castle or Castle Town entirely. That was a fear I had harbored and for me to perpetuate our relationship for selfish indulgence… that isn’t love. At least, not a love he deserved.
Daintily, Zelda set her fork beside her plate and partially turned to him. The man had been expecting her as if this was any ordinary conversation, his fork pressing down the spongy dessert instead of eating it.
“Only because you care so much,” she uttered with a stiff back. “The royal family of Labrynna will be hosted in Hyrule Castle in just a few days. I haven’t seen their prince since I was a child.”
His expression hadn’t changed, but he ceased his movements with the fork. Guilt pricked at the edge of her consciousness. Link placed his fork on his plate and reached up. Immediately, her faced flushed hotly and felt his coarse fingertips brushed her cheek. There wasn’t any movement to indicate that she would pull away from his touch.
Then, he smirked. “There was cream on your face.”
It was like he didn’t care! I was mortified.
Her ink pen ran underneath the last word several times to create a line deep enough to bleed onto the next page. The worry line on her forehead had creased deeper as she recounted the events that had happened.
I should have made it clear to him after dessert was over, but when we were taking leave, Father got caught up in a conversation with him. I couldn’t confront him at that point and when Link came to my door again to say goodnight, I shouldn’t have opened it. And when I did, I should have told him: Link, this is inappropriate and I’ve told you that I didn’t want this to continue. Especially in front of my father, no less!
But I didn’t.
Zelda’s face burned and she couldn’t get herself to write down that she might have liked it. She was someone who was both stubborn inside and out, and even her feelings wouldn’t leave with tumultuous effort on Zelda’s part. What was she supposed to say? That she really does miss him and that every second around him chipped deeper in the hole he left?
It was rude. Irresponsible. Ungentlemanly and without regards to propriety. OR my feelings for that matter! What if the way I felt about him is different? Three months is a long time.
And then she remembered his self-satisfied smirk when her face was hot under his hand. Her handwriting grew more frantic against the paper and she had to consciously apply less pressure before the quill-tip punctured through the surface.
Her mind shifted to the days after.
Labrynna was hosted in Hyrule Castle amongst continued celebrations of Hyrule’s success. Their King and Queen were welcomed with open arms, overwhelmed by the jubilations of Hyrulean citizens. Along with them was their son and daughter: Prince Tyrion and Princess Aurra.
Prince Tyrion had written to Zelda several times after the Calamity about their shared childhood, a time she hadn’t remembered at all herself and referred to Impa more than once to verify his stories and to write back to adequately pretend she had. The Labrynnian princess was someone Zelda wasn’t aware of whatsoever and even her father had leaned in during the processions to ask of her name.
Aurra, however, was acutely aware of Zelda. More importantly, she knew of the Hylian Champion who slew a monstrous being of myths.
Not long after making her introductions to Princess Zelda and King Rhoam, she skipped to who was at King Rhoams side and curtsied. Before Zelda could see Link’s reaction, Prince Tyrion took up her view. She offered the appropriate pleasantries and allowed him to take her hand, but she didn’t miss when Link took Princess Aurra’s.
She made note that he didn’t bring it to his lips.
Through the day, she didn’t wander from Prince Tyrion’s side. He was an interesting man; well read and well traveled. She found him to be a fantastic conversationalist nor was she blind to his charm. Dark eyes paired with brunet hair that was shorn close to his ears, which were notably shorter than any Hylian’s - a common trait amongst his people.
However, he was also arrogant.
As King Rhoam led the party through the castle grounds, a level above the barracks and training grounds, Tyrion spoke up.
“You know, Your Majesty, I am well trained in the arts of combat,” he said with a slight smile.
Rhoam raised a brow, turning slightly to face his daughter and the Prince. Two men sparred below, each clash of their swords echoing off the walls. The King of Labrynna nodded in affirmation, a certain pride in his face. “Yes, it’s custom for our prodigy to learn the blade from young ages. Tyrion has a special affinity to it.”
“Fascinating. I hope to see your skill during your stay, young man.”
“Well,” the smile of the Prince’s face and he gestured to Link behind him. “I would be honored to spar with the Hero of Hyrule.”
Princess Aurra stopped her chattering with Link and grabbed the sleeve of his blue tunic, “Oh, brother, you will surely lose. Isn’t that right, Link?”
Zelda swallowed, suddenly uncomfortable with her familiarity with him after only hours. Even more was how unbothered he was by it.
“It surely would be quite the duel,” Rhoam mused, “As long as it has your approval, Captain.”
Link nodded Tyrion’s way, graciously, “The honor would be all mine, Your Highness.”
He said it to the Prince, but his eyes meandered to Zelda’s.
The preparation took an hour and by the time Princess took her seat overlooking the training grounds, the sun casted a golden glow over them. King Rhoam was incredibly eager for the duel, shooting secret smiles at his daughter as the two men shook hands below.
It was clear who would win to the Princess, Link was at the top of his class even before he became her attendant. She scolded herself, though, and told herself that she shouldn’t underestimate Prince Tyrion so soon.
Dimly, she could hear the two opponents giving their regards to one another. The Prince had changed into an elaborately designed sparring outfit that appeared to have leather padding laced at his forearms. Link, however, changed only into Hylian trousers.
Princess Aurra hummed next to Zelda, “Is that the magical sword? It looks normal to me.”
It wasn’t as he had chosen a Knight’s Broadsword to match Tyrion’s.
“It isn’t the Master Sword. We returned it to the pedestal after felling Calamity Ganon.”
Aurra blinked, “Together?”
Zelda politely nodded. That sword was an extension of Link and she remembered comforting him after he realized its purpose was served. The night of, she felt his tears through her nightgown and told him he was more than his destiny - they both were.
After Link gave his regards to King Rhoam and Princess Zelda, a man who had sparred prior held an arm out and shouted to begin the duel.
“Oh, how exciting!” Aurra squealed.
The two men  circled each other like vultures. Prince Tyrion was the first to push forward, a simple feint that Link sidestepped. He was testing the waters. Then, the Prince leapt forward and went for his opponent’s side, who parried without losing ground. There were several short exchanges of the Hero being passive, while Tyrion was assertive.
Before Zelda knew it, she was gripping the sides of her chair as they danced. Tyrion was grinning wildly at his stoic opponent. He hadn’t been bluffing earlier, he was skilled. The Hylian Princess had seened Link spar time and time again, never did it take so long for him to disarm his opponent in some manner. The sun beat down on them, creating glistening sweat on their skin that bled darkly through their clothes.
Suddenly, Tyrion had space for a large horizontal slash before Link could recover from a parry. Zelda let out a yelp and watched him duck into a lateral roll, regaining his senses and plenty of ground between them.
Tyrion harked out a laugh, “You are brilliant, sir!”
They were panting now and the comment brought a sideways smile to Link’s lips. “I appreciate the regard, Your Highness. You’re a remarkable swordsman.”
They took a moment to breathe and Link did the unthinkable. His Champion tunic was discarded easily to the ground and Zelda held her breath when his eyes found hers on the perch where she sat.
Princess Aurra gasped softly. Zelda didn’t blame her. Hard lines on his stomach were only more prominent in the sun and his chest heaved with his hard breaths. The lack of coverage revealed the flex of his arm as he readjusted his grip on the blade.
It wasn’t an oddity that he was now half naked. Tyrion had long let the strings that laced the neckline of his tunic loosen, leaving a large portion of his chest exposed. Considering that they were already in the heat of midsummer, the sight of shirtless men should be expected at this end of the castle. But Link, well, he was always different.
The Prince of Labrynna lunged forward with a grunt, thrusting his blade out. Where Tryion was tactful, almost mechanical, in his movements, Link was fluid. He took his opponents strikes like water, flowing into the gaps of his defenses and reevaluating in a moment’s notice. It truly was an art in Zelda’s eyes, a very dangerous art.
Much different than anything Tyrion had done, he brought his blade upward in a sideways slashing arch with a loud shout. Princess Zelda’s heart surged in her chest. Link grit his teeth and threw his weight back into a flip, landing on his feet.
Surprise registered in Tyrion’s eyes and couldn’t recover fast enough when Link brought his blade against the hilt of His Highness’s broadsword. The blade was sent skidding along the dirt.
“Ah,” Tyrion brought his hand up to further demonstrate his lack of weapon. “I yield.”
It was then that Zelda realized she was holding her breath. Her father and his guests had all stood and applauded, so she followed suit.
“Good show!” Aurra leaned on the stone wall. “Very well done!”
The two men clasped hands again with a few words of respect. The Hylian princess watched a short regaling and found an opportunity to slip away from the processions without another glance at the arena.

“Siren’s Song”
Words: 1,678
Rating: G

Characters: Link, Sidon, Bazz
Relationships: Link/Sidon
"My prince, is everything alright?" Prince Sidon turned to find Bazz standing behind him,  a slightly concerned look on his face.
"Ah, yes. Everything is fine." Sparing a glance at the East Reservoir Lake, Sidon  continued. "I find sleep hard to come by tonight."
"Oh, of course," Bazz replied, his worry seeming to melt away. "Is there anything I can  get you?"
"That's quite alright," Sidon answered, turning to face the steep cliffs over which  waterfalls cascaded. "I think a walk would do me some good." Without waiting for a reply, he  began walking towards the bridge that led to the East Reservoir Lake. As he passed by the public  sleeping pools, he spared a glance to find that several of the other Zoras were sound asleep, their  young ones by their sides. As Sidon crossed the bridge though, his mind was far from his  kingdom and its inhabitants.
Truth be told, he had been kept awake many nights now. This wasn't the regular insomnia  that accompanied him when he was stressed because of his duties or when he simply had too  much energy to lie down. This was because of the hauntingly beautiful song that had drifted on  the wind over the cliffs and waterfalls. At first, the prince had thought that it was another Zora  but after asking around the kingdom, he had quickly discovered that he was wrong. This was a  new, mysterious voice he had never heard before.
Using the faint voice as his guide, Prince Sidon made his way across the bridge that led to  the lake, passing Gaddison on his way.
"Good evening," she quietly uttered, eyes glancing toward the dam before focusing on  the prince who bowed his head in recognition but continued on his way.
The stairs that led up to the lake were numerous and Sidon often wished there was a  waterfall that he could swim up instead. Nevertheless, this was the fastest way and the less time  it took to reach his destination, the better.
As he reached the top of the stairs, the Zoran prince couldn't help but marvel at the  exquisiteness of his kingdom. He'd been up here countless times yet every time he became all the  more enthralled by the sheer beauty of it. With the full moon hanging in the vast, empty black pit  of the universe, plenty of light was cast down to illuminate the landscape, including the surface  of the water.
Lost in admiring his surroundings, it took a while before Sidon realized that the singing  had stopped. Sharp eyes scanned the cliffs, the water's surface, even the looming figure of  Shatterback Point far above before his rings of gold landed on a small figure in the water. With  his predatory vision aided by the light from the moon, he could clearly see what appeared to be a  Hylian.
"Hey there!" Sidon called out. The figure turned to acknowledge him and seemed to  freeze in place for a moment before disappearing under the water's surface. "Wait!" He called  out, hoping he hadn't scared the stranger away.
The large Zora stood there examining his options before deciding that, if the stranger had  wanted his company, he would have approached him. As he turned to leave, he heard a noise  behind him and turned back to find the top of a head sticking out of the water. Everything below the nose was hidden in the water but from what Sidon could see, the stranger was most definitely  a Hylian. From the looks of it, a male Hylian. His light sapphire eyes shone even in the lack of  light and the moon light illuminating his damp, golden hair only added to his beauty.
Moving slowly as to not scare him off, Prince Sidon knelt down and reached his hand  out. The male took his hand, placing the other on the end of the dock and pulling himself up.  Resting his elbows on the polished luminous stone walkway, he rested his head on his arms, a  small smile playing on his lips.
"Hello young one. Pardon the entrance, but you're a Hylian, aren't you?" Sidon inquired.  The mysterious male offered no reply, only continued to stare at Sidon with his blue eyes. His  lack of response led the prince to believe that he, in fact, had no idea what was being asked. Pointing to himself, the red Zora said, "I am Sidon, the Zora prince."
The quiet stranger watched him a moment longer before pointing to himself and quietly  saying, "Link."
"Your name is Link?" Sidon asked, a large, toothy smile on his face. Gently returning the  smile, the man nodded.
"Are you the one that's been singing?" the prince asked, subconsciously leaning closer.  Link nodded before gently taking the other's large, clawed hand and setting it against his throat.  Feeling such a small creature put such trust in him (combined with the feeling of the blood  rushing beneath the frail skin below his fingers) made the Zora's eyes dilate. To his surprise,  Link didn't pull away. If anything, he seemed more excited by his obvious effect on the prince.
Taking both red hands in his, Link harshly tugged the Zora forward. Without an  opportunity to catch himself, Sidon tumbled into the water. At first, he feared he had landed on  Link. But a quick look around told him that the male was nowhere to be seen. While he  admittedly had a limited knowledge of Hylians, he knew that their swimming abilities were  supremely limited. At best, he had two or three minutes before he would need to surface for air.
Feeling a harsh tap to his back, Sidon spun around to find something quite unexpected. A  thorough understanding of Hylian anatomy was not needed to know that Hylians had two legs,  not a tail resembling a fish. Yet there it was. The skin below Link's belly button gradually faded  to brilliant sapphire scales that closely resembled the colour of his eyes. Gently taking one of  Link's arms, he pulled him forward and looked beneath his arm. As expected (or perhaps, it  should have been unexpected), gills lined his sides.
It was no wonder now why he hadn't answered Sidon's question. He probably had no idea  what a Hylian was.
Leaning forward, Link ran his hand over Sidon's crest. His eyes seemed to ask a question  that he didn't want to verbalize but he had no need to. Sidon knew exactly what the question was.
"My biology is... strange, I suppose, when compared to yours."
Link simply smiled before tapping the prince on the shoulder and taking off. Without  encouragement (for none was needed), Sidon followed close behind. He could have easily passed  him but that would have spoiled the fun. As Link reached the edge of the lake closest to  Shatterback Point, he began to slow down. Finally, at the water's edge, Link pulled himself out to  sit on the rocky bank, Sidon following suit. The two sat in silence, listening to the sound of  crickets and the occasional owl before Link began to hum.
"What is that song you keep singing?" Sidon asked.
Link's face turned a light shade of red before slowly replying, "There was a girl who used  to come to the lake often. She looked a lot like you.. but smaller. She taught it to me. But I haven't seen her in..." Link stared at his hands, trying to count the days, weeks, months, years  on his hands. He quickly gave up and shrugged his shoulders.
"Was her name Mipha?" Sidon gently asked to which Link quickly nodded.
"She was my sister," the Zora explained. "She died many years ago."
Link seemed to consider this before his eyes lit up and he held up one finger - the only  sign Sidon got - before he dove under the water. Moments later, he surfaced with a shiny object  in his hands. Carefully holding the object, he held it out to Sidon. The bright moonlight caught  the blue jewel that hung in the shape of a tear drop, illuminating the beautiful piece of jewelry.  Several blue sapphires were framed by silver. The necklace was truly beautiful and much too  small for any Zora. Except, perhaps, Mipha.
"Did she make this for you?" the prince asked. Link nodded. "It's exquisite." Taking the  necklace from Link, Sidon fastened it around its owners neck. Taking a moment to admire Link,  Sidon finally said, "It matches your eyes perfectly."
Link's face turned a dark shade of pink which, unfortunately for him, was obvious in the  light of the moon. Sidon, however, had no idea what the action meant.
As Link resumed humming the song, Sidon made sure to pay close attention. After only  moments, Link abruptly stopped.
"What is it?" the prince asked.
"There was something she used to do," Link slowly said, each word pronounced  carefully, as if he were unsure of what he was saying. And for all Sidon knew, that was precisely  the case. "May I?" Link asked. Though unsure of what was going to happen, the Zora consented.
Leaning forward slowly, Link pulled Sidon down closer to his level before nuzzling  against his crest. This was an action that Sidon was familiar with. It was the Zora's way of  showing love. Though, because it was typically done between lovers, Sidon had never done it  himself. Eyes wide, the prince watched the young male nuzzle against him. His eyes were closed  and a happy smile was on his face. As they pulled away, Sidon was baffled. How was he  supposed to explain to Link the action's implications?
"I know what it means," Link said as the Zora was left scrambling for a way to explain. "I  apologize if that was too bold."
"Not at all!" the stunned prince blurted out.
Smiling brightly, Link let out a relieved sigh. "Good."
After Sidon had repositioned himself so the two were sitting side by side, Link leaned his  head against the Zora's side and closed his eyes. Side by side, the two sat together - Link singing, and Sidon listening.

Chapter 14: Expecting More Than Sabotage
Summary/Info Rated M CHAPTER WARNINGS: Sado is a huge fucking creep and is the cause for most of the following; Torture. Threats of Physical and Psychological harm. Animal Sacrifice. Blood and Gore (mild). Non-Sexual Non-Consensual elements, Bonding and Blood drinking. [This is the darkest point of the whole story]
Previously...
Link experiences first hand what the true affects of what this strange Malice can do. Strung around like a puppet, he injured many of his knights and tried to kill Sidon.
It takes three days before Link awakes, drowning in guilt and anger as he remembers everything. Sidon is there for him.
A simple council meeting attempting to go over the incident proves to be more as Link is shown what his unknown enemy is capable of, that Link's actions have not gone unnoticed. Link realizes that he must pick his next actions very carefully and that he may be running out of time. He Informs Sidon of the situation going on at the camp and ties to the members of the castle.
After the ordered 'month of recovery', Link sets out and in the process of making sure no one follows him, he follows platoon forty-eight. But the unexpected happens when Link's fever is triggered early by Ingo.
-Only obvious key points will be summarized. There are likely moments of an Unreliable Narrator or Sneaky Foreshadowing.- ____________________________________________________
“Misko? Am I saying that right?” Ingo asked as he awkwardly tried to eat around his mask. A simple, yet hearty stew Link had made them after the long and heavy conversation.       One Link had taken a huge risk with.      He told them everything, how Link found out about his body, these hidden and rare types of people. The months of work it took to make two forms of prototype suppressants. Of the truth behind the camp and that one of the council members was behind it all, along with an unknown number of knights. That the night at the barracks; when Link lost control of himself, was a warning, a display of what they could do.     Which also led into explaining the mass fear of those like himself and Ingo that has been going on for hundreds; if not thousands, of years. Of what he remembered, what the small village had done to Judo, to someone just like Link.
Yet right of this moment; with good food and the topic now on Link's family, the mood began to lift and become usual chatter, no longer tense or uncomfortable. Currently, they spoke about his feisty, crybaby, little sister, Misko.
“I feel like I've heard that name somewhere before.” Mused Ingo.
Shad was quick to pipe up as it dawned on him, snapping his fingers. “The stories of the Great Bandit Misko! That's probably why it sounds so familiar.”
“But all tales of 'im, are about a man. Not some wee girl.” Madas added, having heard the stories as well, famous and popular among young and adventurous souls.
“You never know,” Senza said between sips of her drink. “given the time of the crimes, it could have been a woman disguised as a man. Makes hiding from any pursuers easier if they don't know the truth.”
Link smiled behind his mask, his little sister a tale of legend? A master thief was not something he could picture her becoming, but she might have turned out different with the Calamity looming over Hyrule for a century. [I'd like to hear more about this bandit, whether or not they are possibly my sister. It will make the ride go much faster.]
“Right... we're goin' to see these other allies to help Ingo with his little problem.” Madas glanced to his youngest teammate.
 Whom curled in on himself while glaring daggers at his team leader. Guilt still weighed heavy on his conscious, even if Link had reassured him many times that it wasn't his fault. “Come on, Madas, lay off. How do you think I feel about it?”
“Could be worse, ya could be in the Cap's shoes.” He retorted, but then quickly realized that could have been taken as an insult and turned Link’s way. “No offence, Cap, this doesn't change a thing for us. But you bein' able to... ya, know... It's got to be hella weird bein' a man an' all.”
Link quickly shrugged it off as he finished his meal. Become pregnant? It was complicated, but this was getting too personal and Link didn't wish to share anything he didn't feel was necessary. Then he opened his vial case to grab the only two remaining suppressants and held one out to Ingo.
“Ugh... Is this going to taste as bad as the last one?” Taking the offered orange liquid, it sucked, but he wasn't going to refuse.
Link shook his head and shot back the elixir. [This one is a little sweet and it sort of burns going down. It will suppress the fever for about six to eight hours, longer if we're lucky, but it takes time to kick in. While the purple is instant relief, it will begin to wear off soon. Granted it lasts longer than before, which use to be twenty minutes. Both recipes are still lacking.]
As Ingo drank the thick, sandstone liquid, Shad couldn’t help but express his concern. “Will it last long enough until we arrive, until you can get more medicine?”
[Let's hope, I know that even if mine wears off, I still have periods where I can think straight. But I don't know how he will fair.]
~~~~~~   ҉   ~~~~~~
The snowfall had been heavy well after sunset and Link had forbidden any torches in the darkness. The only light among them came dimly from the Sheikah slate as Link followed their position on the map. None of the Hylians could see each other, but they still talked quietly among themselves. The horses saw better at night than they did anyway and Link's horse was very familiar with night rides. It was the best way to avoid being followed, especially since the allies were civilians.
When they arrived at the small home hidden in the mountain's forest, Link was the first to dismount. The light coming from the porch lantern and the windows gave enough visibility for Link to speak. [You can dismount, but wait here and let me do the talking.] All the knights then acknowledged with a nod.
After giving the door a soft knock, he was surprised at who came to greet him. Link hadn't seen her in two months, but she was looking much better. Her curly, brown hair had gotten a proper cut and she had put on some healthy weight. The young Hylian woman's eyes lit up and she jumped the unprepared man, a hug that sent them both into the snow.
[Sorry.] She signed; again, surprising Link as she sat up atop his legs. But when she saw the four knights standing at the light's edge, she screamed and scurried back inside, leaving the door wide open. Link could hear R asking her what happened and something about weapons.
As Link stood, dusting the snow off and readying himself for the confrontation that was expected of him bringing company. An all too familiar voice called out to him. “You've got three seconds, voe.” The Gerudo woman was glaring at him with an axe in one hand and a bundle of logs in the other.
[Allies and we weren't followed.] He explained just as the other two women popped out of the doorway, armed with a bow and sword.
At least R was happy to see him, her serious expression fading into a relieved smile and she lowered her blade slightly. “Oh, Sir Link, I didn’t know you were here.” Nervously she glanced to her wife and then to the four knights. “Are... they friends of yours?”
Link nodded, but M was not satisfied. “Quite the horrible habit you've got. You bring nothing but trouble to my home and now the Hylian Guard!”
The little Sheikah woman gave M an unamused look at first. Though after putting the blade back in its sheath, she wore a more understanding expression. “Dearest, Sir Link has proven himself to be trustworthy and only wants to help those in need. A little trouble here and there is something we can handle. I know it's hard for you, so at the very least trust in me.”
M glared at each of the knights before setting her eyes on Link for a long moment, then she huffed and reluctantly set the axe against the house.
“Now,” R turned her attention back to the group. “why don't you all come in out of the cold and I'll put on some tea. We'll do introductions then.”
[Thank you and I’m sorry for the suddenness of this all. Things happened and I ran out of elixirs-] Link didn’t get to finish as the Hylian woman rushed back inside once more.
“Don’t mind her, now get in here before I turn you all into frogs.” R teased with a cheerful smile as she too, returned inside.
Link was the first one through the door. Followed by M, she only paused long enough to slip out of her boots and to announce to the group adding up in the entrance. “Leave your gear and weapons here. Don’t make a mess.”
It took a bit of time for the four to disarm and shed their gambesons, as it was too hot for it inside. While Link had already taken off the upper layers of the heavy Snowquill tunic and left it with his boots, he was now joining the others in the kitchen.
M was adding more cups to the table, when she snapped her head up, frozen as she looked to Link with a mix of anger and concern. But Link pretended not to notice and ignored whatever sort of taunt she was trying.
The very nervous and worried Hylian suddenly came running up to Link with two vials of suppressants. Honestly, he hadn’t expected her to grab these. [Are you fluent in hands?] He asked slowly.
[A little.] She said, her expression falling as she bit her lip. She looked ashamed. [Learning.]
[Deaf?] He guessed and she shook her head before pointing to the bandage around her neck. Link then nodded in understanding, he remembers the wounds she had suffered and how the Malice affected him. He had only suffered for a few minutes at best, but her… it could have been hours, days, weeks. Her voice must not have been able to recover. [What’s your name? You can call me Link.]
[K A T T A N] She spelled out slowly and carefully as she started to smile a little in return. [Thank you, Link. For helping me.]
[You’re welcome and thank you for these.] Link said as he took the offered vials and drank one. Just to be safe, and handed the other to Ingo as he entered the kitchen. Kattan actually hissed at him before hiding behind Link.
“I get it, don't worry, I’ll be sure to give you lots of space. Both you and the Captain.” Ingo ducked away as he double checked that his mask was still secure. It wasn’t until he sat down at the far end of the table did he finally drink the suppressant.
M scowled down at Ingo as she sat on the table in front of him. “What are you drinking that shit for?”
“Um, so I don’t lose control again? Capt--... Link said that I’m like you so-”
The Gerudo woman then whipped her head around to Link. “You. Down the hall. Right now.”
R groaned, becoming agitated. “Dearest, please. No fighting, our bean is sleeping.” She reminded her as she finished setting the extra chairs around the table.
M stood up and brushed past the other platoon members. “I ain’t going to fight, but we need to talk alone before I start anything else.”
Link held back a sigh and followed after her down the hallway. They ended up at the back door before the Gerudo woman turned to face him.
In a swift motion, she quickly tore off his mask and tossed it aside. Link didn’t even get a moment to demand what her problem was before M grabbed his shirt, lifting him off his feet. Twice in one day, Link has someone scenting his neck.
Her scent overwhelmed any remaining trace of mint and for a second, he feared that he would be triggered into a fever once more. Forgetting that he had just taken another round of suppressants and that M was bonded. Yet, M's scent was strangely... comforting, soothing, but there was something about it that didn't sit right with him. This felt far different than before.
Frantic, Link shoves her away, but stumbles into the wall when he’s dropped. Link braces himself against the wood surface and low enough that she would have to lean to grasp hold of him again, but not enough that he would be at any sort of huge disadvantage. His nerves firing off and muscles tight, readying for a fight or to run.
M's gaze was tense, but not malicious. “I thought I had been mistaken. With you being as cautious as you are and your progress on a suppressant medicine. But there's no mistake.”
Link hesitated a long moment before he brought his hands up to speak. [I don’t know what you are talking about.]
“No need to deny it, this isn't something you can lie to someone like me about.” She looked away from him, back down the hall. And then to their feet, before she could meet his eye once more. Link had never seen her hesitate like this before, M preferred to snap first and sort things out after. Her familiar bitter expression almost seemed remorseful. “It’s that boy’s, isn’t it?”
Ingo? Was she talking about the accident? Could M have found his scent on Link, was that something a person like her was capable of? [He may have lost to the fever, but he didn’t do anything.] That was simple to clear up.
“Someone else suffered a fever with you?”
That was a weird way of putting it. Link shook his head, this was the first time something like this had happened. Ingo was the only one that triggered a premature fever in Link.
“Oh?” M honestly looked surprised. “I see, that's... that's relieving to hear.” She relaxed a bit, but appeared to be worrying over something. “So... that boy. Is he here just to confide in someone else just like him or... are you here for my wife's help?”
Tired of M's odd phrasing and the unsettling vibe building in this situation. Link felt on edge; cornered almost. Like a deep long forgotten reflex waiting for the opportunity to strike. Link inquired, [Why would I need her help? Just what do you think is going on to ask such strange questions?]
Looking him over, she was expecting a joke or sarcasm, but she didn't receive any such thing. And thankfully, M went straight to the point, even if she now looked uncomfortable. “You're pregnant.”
With an amused huff and a smirk, Link shook his head. Relaxing, he stood up straighter and stepped forward from the wall. [That's ridiculous.]
“No, it's not.” M did not take kindly to Link's reaction and thus, dropped any built-up concern for the young man. The edge returning to her voice and gestures. Prodding him in the shoulder with a finger, she continued. “You know what your body is capable of. I even double checked your neck in case it was just a scent lingering on your clothes. You're likely more than a few weeks along if I can smell it, you possibly missed a fever already.”
[I haven't,] Then Link paused and his expression fell, because he just realized that he had no way of knowing for sure. After all, he was more careful now to take his elixirs in a timely matter and added mint to his clothing accordingly. He hasn't experienced a fever since today, since... all those months ago. [But my fever was triggered early.]
“Look, Link,” Even if she was becoming frustrated, she made sure to keep her voice down. “I've already told you I don't really know much about your kin. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm just saying, your scent has changed drastically. You smell like my wife did when she was pregnant.”
The young man still denied any of this. He had to. It was absurd, unbelievable, impossible. Right? Sidon was too different; a Zora, a race that laid eggs. If Link was a Rito, maybe there could have been a possibility. But that clearly wasn't the case.
“I'm not saying this to be cruel, Link. If I wanted to make you feel like a fool, I would have made a scene back there. The only thing I ask of you, is that if you want to get rid of it, please ask someone else. Don't ask my wife.”
Get rid of it? He couldn't. Could he? Link thought about the possibility, about his duty, about his purpose. If there really was something growing in his belly, what should he do? What was right? What was more important?
Then the memory of that awkward, yet tender moment when they laid hands over one another, came back to him. Sidon's gentle and warm touch over Link's bandages, that bashful joy across his lips.
But...perhaps, some part of me hoped that there was a chance.
Link grabbed his stomach defensively at the thought. If there was...
He acted out of impulse. Unstrapping the Sheikah slate was easily done in one motion, a reflex built up over time. He selected the Zora's Domain and tapped the confirmation box. However, the tablet slipped out of his hand and clattered along the floor.
Link's hands didn't shake, his body didn't so much as tremble. There was no frustration, anger nor grief, there didn't feel like there was anything. Just stillness and silence.
In the faint candle light of the hall, the slate felt like a beacon with the faded map of Zora's Domain still open.
Across the screen stated: Action rejected. Instant transportation cannot be done with more than one person.
~~~~~~   ҉   ~~~~~~
“--, any more questions?” M grumbled as she poured herself another cup of tea. Wanting this ordeal to be over with, she didn't enjoy this personal of a topic and with an audience no less. But she supposed it was worth something educating Hylians that were willing to try and understand.
“No, I think I got everything, thank you.” Ingo finished adding the last of the notes to his journal.
“Actually, I have a question.” Senza raised her hand to further her insistence. “Not so much about my teammate, but something important none the less.”
“And what might that be?”
“Will you be assisting the Captain in the rescue mission?”
Both M and R glanced to Link at the other end of the table. He hadn't spoken much during this debrief, both deep in thought and pestered by Kattan. She wasn't comfortable with the knights and sat right next to Link so she could press against him or hang onto him as a safety net of sorts.
“No.” M stated flatly and sipped her tea.
“Now, now.” R quickly piped up and addressed the question properly. “The truth is, Sir Link hasn't shared any interest in either of us joining in on something so dangerous. It has only been recently that I have been given the suppressant recipe to help refine it. While effective, there are still some flaws, as the goal is blocking the drastic change in the body from effecting the person's decisions. This includes the scent factor, as consistently wearing masks of mint are unrealistic.”
Ingo fidgeted with his own mask from the remark and nervously glanced to Link as he no longer had one. But the captain had simply taken a seat after he returned without any proper explanation. Only briefly stating that he 'didn't need it right now'. Whatever that meant.
Senza then continued. “I see, and how close are you to perfecting this medicine?”
R smiled proudly and hooked an arm around Kattan, pulling her in close. Though she still refused to let go of Link completely, fingers pinching at his sleeve. “Thanks to my lovely helper and volunteer here, I believe I'm just about there! I think this next batch will be the one.”
Link snapped to attention and looked to the Hylian woman in concern. She's testing the new elixirs? I should be the one testing them. That's dangerous!
Kattan took notice of his quick reaction. She gave a timid smile, not wanting to cause any trouble and reassured him. [I'm okay. I want to help. Like you did for me.]
“So...” Shad began as he helped himself to another biscuit. “Are there any others that are a part of this secret operation?”
The Gerudo woman clicked her tongue in irritation. “Thank Hylia, no.”
Link tapped the table to draw in everyone's attention. [The head of the Sheikah is aware of my investigation and will give me aid. I plan to bring forth my findings within the next two days.]
“Lady Impa?” R beamed with excitement. “If she's backing you up, you'll have elite warriors at your side! That's wonderful!”
“I’d expect nothing less from you Captain.” Senza sat up a little straighter, a rare smile on her lips.
"Ya, well. That's not all!” Madas stood up abruptly with both hands on his hips. “The best knights of Hyrule will fight at his side! Myself and platoon forty-eight!”
“Hey! You're hogging the spotlight again, Madas!” Ingo pouted and threatened to throw a half-eaten biscuit at him.
“Wait, would it be safe for you to go, Ingo?” Shad questioned, worried as he remembered what happened this morning. As Ingo was about to defend his worth, he stopped and looked to Link. So did the other team members.
[No more dangerous than it will be for me.] Was the answer and everyone seemed to be all the more encouraged to take on the mission. All but M who cast a knowing look to Link, then to the table blocking the view of his lower torso and back up at him.
~~~~~~   ҉   ~~~~~~
They were all grateful to the married couple for the hospitality, even if it had began with a rocky start. The night ended with warm food in their bellies from a late supper and more casual topics.
While it was cramped, R managed to find a place for everyone to sleep. Everyone was in agreeance that Link and Ingo shouldn't share a close space for the night. With the boys; Shad, Madas and Ingo set up in R's apothecary and study. Senza and Link would share a room with Kattan, but that had been an awkward situation in of itself.
Originally Kattan was completely against Senza being in the room, because she still didn't trust any of the knights. Even with Senza offering to be tied up for the night, it was still a no. M; of course, threw Link under the wagon. Suggesting that she snuggles up with him for safety and Senza sleeps on the floor.
So, here was Link, sharing the single bed with Kattan. He felt like her oversized teddy bear as she hugged him tightly and used his chest as a pillow, while she snored like an old dog. Quiet, mostly groans, but had the irregular whistle every couple minutes. How she was comfortable like this was beyond him, her right arm had to be packed with pins and needles by now.
A shared sleeping space was nothing new to him, nor was this position particularly unique. More than once, camping during missions turned into dog piles, whether due to lack of space or warmth. Sometimes it was for the feeling of safety for the one that was gravely injured. Link never once had an issue with any of the situations and this one was no different.
But of all the recollections passing through his mind, there was this one time that lingered. It had been such a deep, restful sleep and yet, there was a strange feeling of awareness. The occasional drop of weight across him; whether it be limb or tail. The night he had been caught up in Sidon's sleeping embrace. As the hero, a life full of struggle and fighting, Link had never felt as secure and relaxed as he did then.
This however, this was uncomfortable. A little painful even. With one of Kattan's arms underneath him, low down on his spine too, his back was arched at an odd angle. After about three hours of not moving, it was beginning to ache. And somehow it felt like he was being pinched by her head. Maybe if the bed had more pillows or the bed was soft enough to sink into, it wouldn't be so bad.
Not that Link was in any place to complain. He had slept in worse conditions; had dealt with far worse pain or irritations, and this was to help out someone in need. Facing knights that still hunted her thoughts, even if forty-eight meant no harm, was none the less a terrifying experience. The least he could do was offer Kattan some form of peace.
Kattan shifted and gave a small stretch, mumbling nonsense. However, when her arms returned to wrap around him, her hand went under his shirt and rested at the end of his rib cage. Link was not sensitive to contact, certainly not under normal means, manhandling came with the job on a daily basis. Be it knights, civilians or monsters. But the brief skin to skin contact over his stomach made Link flinch and his heart pound as his body seized up. If not for that, he was certain that he would have done something he would have regretted.
Because he was very familiar with what this feeling was. Such a highly defensive reaction normally occurred in combat. All he could do was picture every way he could get out of her hold or render Kattan unable to fight back. To hurt her or kill her, if need be. It was more startling than anything. Though the feeling did not last long nor did Link wake her up from the situation.
As Link took slow and even breaths to calm his racing heart. He chose to ignore any other thought and tried to pick something that would help him focus. My will and mind is of the people, the innocent. My body-
But his thoughts are interrupted by Sidon's voice. You matter, Link! Not as a hero, not as a warrior, not as a weapon. You matter as a person.
That was not helping right now. But try as he might, the prince and his words continued to run wild in his mind. Link's pulse wouldn't come down and he couldn't keep his breathing regular. So, he opted for a visual distraction and pulled the slate from under his pillow.
When the screen lit up the dark room, that message was the first thing he saw. He had forgotten that he had not closed anything and that the screen had simply turned off to standby. Link's mind was silent now and he wished for anything but. Because anything at this moment would be better than the reminder of these words.
Action rejected. Instant transportation cannot be done with more than one person.
Enough! Link told himself as he shut everything down and put the slate back. In all these months, all this time, not once had he suddenly felt nauseous as he did now. His heart thundered uncontrollably as he fought to keep his breathing silent and the rising bile of his stomach down.
Enough! Link draped an arm over his eyes as everything was starting to sting, every tiny movement hurt all over. Yet it did not stop him from using his free hand to press into his agitated abdomen. The slightly defined muscle was still firm as ever and while the pressure hurt, it brought some relief to reframe from being sick.
Enough. Link tried to will himself to pass out, but he could settle for a sleepless night if it meant his body wouldn't force him to purge dinner. So, he focused on the discomfort, the ache that rolled around his body and waited for dawn.
Rested or restless.
Link was going to leave for the Domain first thing, the moment everyone woke up.
~~~~~~   ҉   ~~~~~~
In the hours before dawn, the waters are pleasantly cool around the shrine. The elegant luminous stonework that made up this cavern glowed softly and rang ever so gently with hums. The pink Zora mother sat at the edge of the pool, tenderly rocking her egg as if it was lulled by a current. But her eyes were set on the shrine and not her unborn child, aware that she was being watched.
“Little one keeping you up?”
She was not the least bit surprised by Rivan's attempt to approach discreetly or his comment, he wasn't necessarily wrong. Now looking down at her egg, Gaddison spoke somewhat awkwardly. “You could say that.”
Rivan moved to sit next to her before he replied. “Something on your mind then?” The brown Zora was already armed and ready for the rotation of the guard. With time to spare, he had gone on an aimless stroll and wound up at the shrine. To find Gaddison here of all places, it was quite the coincidence.
“Do you remember when your magic awakened?” Gaddison asked, looking back at the shrine.
Rivan followed suit as he chuckled and gave an awkward smile. “I don’t think Bazz will ever let me forget the time I thought I killed my mate just as their labour began.” That was so long ago and he couldn’t recall the last time any of them had talked about it. It was certainly funny in the aftermath of the event; a pair of bonded younglings having a typical maternal spat and then suddenly the baby decides to break up the fight. Only for Rivan’s magic to surge during the moment of panic and make everything worse.
“No, I mean do you remember what it felt like? Did you know right from the start or did it take time to notice it was there?”
The man was quiet for a moment and then stared down at his feet as they waded in the pool. “It’s difficult to say... I remember the moment our souls merged and the feeling of our bond becoming whole. But the power I gained from it? It could have been lost in the new experience for all I know; even as months passed, I was still overwhelmed by it from time to time. Feeling my mate’s pain, their joy from across the Domain. The way their soul could pull on mine like a leash. The weight of their soul on mine when I so much as touched their hand. So, I can’t say that I noticed a difference from before and when I used it for the first time.”
“Do you still feel your bond as you once did?”
“Since we ended our relationship? No. However, I do think that we’re one of the luckier ones. We can still go to each other to restore our strength without any problems, unlike so many other former couples.” They may not be lovers anymore, not even the closest of friends, but they clearly still care and respect one another. “It has grown weak, it has made my magic weak, but it will still forever be a part of me.”
Gaddison sighed. “I guess it wouldn’t be called a soul bond if it was possible for it to be destroyed.”
“And why is this bothering you exactly? It’s not like you’ve got one.” Rivan teased her with a bit of a smirk, yet when he saw her lips twitch into a frown; even for a second, he knew that something bad was coming.
“I think I might.” She said quietly, as if she was worried someone might be listening in on them.
His tone quickly intensifies. “You think? Gad!” He wasn’t trying to freak out, but with her not showing much interest in romance. Heck, he had never known her to have eyes for anyone. Rivan couldn’t help but fear for his friend. It had him jumping to a horrible possible outcome, that Gaddison had an unwanted soul bond.
There was more than just one method to make one.
The most common being practically instinctual, a deep bite along the shoulders or neck when the soul is visible, where the light is the strongest. Drinking the rich energy, the mana, the life force of another person and stoking your own soul. With this method so powerful, it does not require the other person to return the bite to complete the binding of souls.
As for the second form, it isn’t for the faint of heart. Even if it is used often in weddings. The person’s soul doesn’t need to be showing and it doesn’t require a bite either. All that is needed is an exchange of blood, as small as a glass of wine.
Less likely and least expected, is one forming due to strong reciprocating emotions. Whether it be joy or anger. However, it can take years to complete a bond this way. Making it unfavourable for those wanting it and unfortunate to those wanting anything but.
But as much as these soul bonds are a blessing; they could be just as much as a curse. They can be made with ill intent. As bonds are magical in nature and magic does not have emotion; it does not feel. No good or bad, right or wrong; only existence.
“Gad, are you sure?” Rivan pressed.
“I don’t know. I get a feeling every now and then, like I need to be somewhere. I’ve tried to follow it... I think? I can’t remember if I have, but it doesn’t seem like something I would just ignore.” Gaddison expressed her confusion with uncertain hand gestures and then curling up around the egg with her forehead on her knees. Groaning in frustration over her inability to put everything into words. “I don’t feel right, nothing feels right! I’m doubting myself, my sanity with every day that brings this egg closer to hatching.”
“The fear of becoming a parent I under-”
“Rivan!” She finally snapped, tensing up as her voice began to waver. Vulnerability breaking out with weak hysterical laughter as she lifted her head. “I don’t even know whose child this is. I barely remember giving birth and honestly, it’s the only piece of evidence that the egg is mine at all. Yet despite how frightening and messed up this is; I never once told anyone!? Not Bazz, not you? And to keep it to myself for over two years!? Does that sound like something I would do?”
Of course it doesn’t, it sounded like this was right out of a nightmare. Rivan grabbed her by the shoulder. “There is only one explanation, someone is manipulating your memories with magic. Is there anyone that you can think of that would want to hurt you?”
“No.”
If not to hurt her, maybe this was out of jealousy. Of her and whoever the sire of their egg is, of not being the one to have her. “Has anyone been trying to get close to you or your egg?”
Though he did not get an answer from Gaddison, her eyes seemed to become unfocused as she became very still. Like time had stopped.
“You mean when Rivan became a living sponge?” Bazz burst out laughing, making the pair turn on him in surprise. Though he flinched when he realized Gaddison had already grabbed Rivan’s weapon. “Woah! Hold on!”
“Hylia, Captain, you scared the scales right off me!” Rivan quickly took his weapon back before Gaddison attacked Bazz with it.
“I wasn’t trying too! You two must have been having one deep conversation if you didn’t hear me.” Irritated at first, only for it to turn into smug pride. “Though, points for me for sneaking up on you, Gaddy! So much for your keen senses.”
“Jump off Shatterback Point, you over grown guppy.”
Bazz just laughed at her insults and continued to smile as he teased them. “So, what were you two really talking about? Love stories? Royal gossip? Or planning naughty things?”
“Nothing.” Gaddison answered flatly. “The conversation had barely begun before you rudely interrupted.” She just wanted to know...
Something.
But she couldn’t remember, so it probably was nothing important.
~~~~~~   ҉   ~~~~~~
“Captain Bazz?” The prince's voice brought him out of his thoughts.
“Yes, Prince Sidon?”
The knight had been escorting him all about this morning in complete silence and was becoming greatly concerning. Sidon worried that there had been a fight between him and another, possibly a silver Zora. “You seem troubled, is everything alright?”
“Merely questioning what the future holds for us.” Bazz answered simply.
Sidon chuckled. “Quite the heavy topic. That's unusual for you.”
“What is that supposed to mean? Are you suggesting that I lack the mind for such things?”
“No, no, not at all what I meant by it. It is just unlike you to be so... serious and tense. You tend to stay on the lighter, more joyful side of things.”
The Zora guard hummed in reply before opening the door to the hall that Sidon would be attending the next meeting in. A gathering of elders, with a rather sensitive subject, Hylians; among other races, wanting to live in the Domain. “Well, let's leave it at that. I am sure the elders will be arriving shortly and I wish you the best of luck. At least you have my father on your side.”
“With the Demon Sargent, I am certain of victory!” Sidon did his signature pose as he had no doubt that this would all end well. As a bonus, he managed to earn a smile out of his friend.
“Only you,” Bazz scoffed in amusement and rolled his eyes. “only you, my Prince, could have complete confidence in facing such horrible odds of encouraging the elders into opening up to such change.”
As expected, the sounds of bitter voices could be heard coming around the corner. Bazz continued to hold the door open, while their prince happily welcomed them and addressed everyone by name. However, as he was greeting the last pair, someone completely unexpected came speeding around the corner.
“Link!?” Sidon shouted in shock as the familiar blond Hylian rushed towards him. “What are you doing here?”
When he came to a stop, Link nearly stumbled over, but despite the clear fatigue, he still managed to sign clearly. [You were right.]
Bazz glanced from Link to Sidon, but it would seem that he wasn't the only one that didn't understand what was going on.
“I'm-?” The red Zora had intended to say more, however the elders were already glowering at the intrusion of Link. Possibly the worst timing for this right now. So he held his tongue for a moment and changed the question. “Is this urgent?”
Sidon did not like the expression of uncertainty and unease Link gave him before looking to the other Zora still waiting at the door, as well as those already inside. When Sidon did not receive an answer, he had little choice but to accept it as minimum concern at the moment. The prince's smile returned, ushering the remaining guests inside and followed along afterwards. “I'm truly sorry, Link, I am currently attending to a prior engagement.”
When Sidon turned around to reassure him, that they would not be brushed off. It might have just been them still catching their breath, but the Hylian seemed to be shaking a bit. It was alarming to see the state his dear friend was in.
“I promise to speak to you the moment this meeting is over, it should only be a few hours. Please, feel free to use that room if you do not wish to wait here.” Sidon did his best to remain optimistic and smile, before looking to his guard. “Captain Bazz, if you please.”
The black Zora simply nodded and began to close the door. But in the last second of the door closing, Link seemed to panic and repeat himself. [You were right!] He said with wide eyes before grabbing a fist full of his tunic over his stomach.
Sidon did not misinterpret the suggestion. His heart sunk and with frightful eyes, his hand snapped over his mouth. And as he stared at the door, the prince didn't feel so confident anymore.
~~~~~~   ҉   ~~~~~~
Bazz placed a hand on Link's shoulder, startling him and redirecting his anxiety. The Zora pulled away quickly, as it seemed to only make this circumstance worse. “Link, has something happened? Are you okay?”
[I'm fine.] He replied quickly and then slapped his cheeks, as if to help snap himself out of whatever was bothering him.
“You don't look fine. Is there something I can do to help?” Bazz offered gently, unsure of how to handle Link with him like this. “Or would you prefer to wait for Prince Sidon?”
[No. No, thank you, I'll wait in the study.] Link shook his head and took a step back. [Let him know for me, would you?]
“Sure, I can pass that on. But, which study?” There were more than three within the surface half of the palace. But he was not at all expecting Link to say it was the one that was made of wood. Bazz visibly stiffened, he knew exactly which room and he had to swallow a lump in his throat before he could speak again. “That... that is not a study.”
[What else could it be?]
There was no way that Bazz could tell him and certainly not like this. It should be Sidon who tells him, after all, he was the one that gave Link permission to be there. The room that had been made specially for Sidon and his... uniqueness. Yet another thing that was best told from the man himself. It had been built at the request of late Queen Shiel and it was also the very same room in which she died in.
“I know which room and I'll inform Sidon when he is finished.” He redirected and took up his post at the door. “I'll personally make sure he gets there as soon as possible. Take care, alright?”
With a nod and a wave, Link left.
~~~~~~   ҉   ~~~~~~
The door opened so slowly that Link didn't realize that it was moving until it softly creaked to a stop. He merely glanced to acknowledge the movement, before tending back to the fire. Link could understand his hesitation or the unusual lack of enthusiasm. Sitting here and waiting, with only his thoughts, it had made him even more nervous and worried. Link even had to toss the Sheikah slate aside to stop himself from attempting other locations, as if expecting it to suddenly change.
So, he waited for Sidon to enter.
“Oh my.” A slow and amused voice spoke out, making the Hylian jump to his feet at the ready. The grip on the Master Sword was tighter than necessary; sparking, zapping pain shot up through his hand and his hair stood on end. Their eyes met and Sado purred with delight. “I was wondering what was taking you so long, but this is quite the interesting room.”
 Link glared and released the weapon quickly; this was not a fight worth risking the blade’s backlash. [Get out!] Infuriated that the tall Zora would even dare come near him after what happened last time, let alone enter Sidon's study. [You are not allowed in this place.]
The silver chuckled and stepped away from the entrance, his freakishly long head fin slithering along behind him. “I can't understand your weird hand thing, little one.”
Refusing to give this man any sort of gratification, Link approached and shoos Sado with a simple gesture. [Did you get that or are you going to fake ignorance?]
“You know, I was lucky to overhear that you had unexpectedly arrived today. And I just couldn't pass up the opportunity. I've been following you ever since you left that clever, little black. Always knows when something is amiss that one.” Sado grinned and offered a hand out towards the door. “Why don't you come with me, little one? There is much to prepare.”
Link's glare intensified as he shook his head in reply and crossed his arms. With another soft chuckle, Sado crouched down and while he still towered over Link, it was closer to eye level. He reached out to put a hand on the smaller man's shoulder, but they were faster to retaliate and grab Sado's neck. Link's hand was far too small to wrap around entirely, but he could still get a good grip on their larynx and dig his fingers into the major arteries below the jaw.
“Oh, yes! Don't stop fighting, little one.” Sado's eye widened with glee, even if it was difficult to talk around the pressure and pain. “You're too perfect to let this end quickly.”
With a snap, a rush of heat, of nerves going haywire; Sado's surprised expression is the last thing Link sees before everything fades away to darkness.
~~~~~~   ҉   ~~~~~~
Link is only vaguely aware, fluttering between a dream like state and numbness. He feels cool and wet, with his hair and clothing hugging his skin. While something seems to be moving around on the inside. A strange weight almost, swimming around his organs. Link flinches when it brushes past something in his chest, it didn't hurt necessarily, but it wasn't welcome, it was wrong. He relaxes once more when it moves away, but whatever it was, now grabs at his insides and begins to tear it from his body.
Link screams, shocked into consciousness as he tries to flee from whatever is attacking. Realizing that his arms are restrained above his head and his feet are bound together. He can feel a hand wrapped around his calf keeping him still.
Fighting through the pain, vision beginning to focus on his surroundings. Link discovers that he's in a cavern or dungeon from the looks of the smooth, carved stone room. Placed sitting upright with his back against a wall, on his left is a strange silver Zora he’s not sure he recognizes and an unusual, green haired Hylian on the right. They don’t so much as bat an eye at him waking, struggling and shouting. While the Zora holds him steady, the Hylian appears to be almost elbow deep through Link's snow tunic and just below his sternum.
“That was quite the strange room you were in.” Sado's voice snaps Link’s attention away, he couldn't be far off, but is out of Link’s sight. “I didn’t intend to inflict that much on you, but it felt like I couldn’t... disperse... like I normally could. So, most of it actually went to you. Ops!” Sado sounded like he was more impressed than regretful. But the anger it brought Link only aided his will to push aside the pain and fight back.
The Zora at Link's side grabbed hold of his shoulder and shoved him back against the wall. “Oh, please do continue speaking. I enjoy it when I have to work harder to block out your arrogance.” Hine spoke dryly and added more force to her grip on the blond. He was indeed stronger than he looked, it was like she was trying to pin down someone closer to her size. That’s even with the man shackled to the wall.
Within that moment a green glow began to emit from Link, more accurately, from where the Hylian had their hand digging around inside him. The torture only got worse, like barb wire was being threaded through his skin. A sensation like that of fabric tearing apart ghosted over his whole body. Link was screaming again, till his lungs ran empty, trailing off into strangled breaths. Even with Link’s vision turning hazy, he could see that a mass was being pulled from his torso. There was no wound nor blood. It was almost smoke-like or perhaps closer to fire? When the last strands finally left him, so did the pain. Leaving Link gasping and trembling in relief.
“This one was more difficult than the last.” The Hylian finally spoke, but his voice was vacant of emotion. He held the lively, shifting mass in one hand and a chunk of black rock in the other. He then brought them together like one would clap their hands and the wisps dissipated in a flash. When they open their hands there now sat a glowing emerald; the two had become one. “It is better to harvest the source.”
Sado groaned, likely rolling his eyes as well. “Yes, that would be just dandy, wouldn’t it? Well, tough. Finish the job, Kuu. There should be two more.”
“What if he dies?” Hine asked simply, like it would be a small mishap.
“He won’t~.” Came the purr of a reply.
Kuu didn’t say another word and as the emerald’s light flickered out, he set it aside. It was then that Link realized what they were taking from him, what was being so ruthlessly torn out. He could already recognize the lack of connection, just like before, he couldn’t feel her anymore. Urbosa was gone.
Link couldn’t think of a single word worthy of his wrath. It was you! You’re the one that hurt Mipha! You took her from me! Now, Urbosa!?
Before they could attempt to take the remaining two souls of the champions from him. A blast of wind was summoned forth, the gale twisting within the small room. Revali's power expelled the two away from Link with greater might than usual, as if the Rito’s spirit was sharing his rage through their connection.
Kuu gave a small pained yelp as he landed on his shoulder and tumbled back in a few bad rolls. Hine, though, was heavier and only landed roughly on her back. However, she was quick to scramble over to the Hylian, as distressed whines reached her ears. So quiet, it was something only she would be able to recognize in the scuffle. “Kuu!”
“Ah, shit…” Even with the torches threatening to go out from the wind, Link could now see Sado from where he stood in the corner. But now the tall man seemed to be preparing to jump into a fight with Hine. And Link did not hesitate to bring up Daruk’s barrier before the gift of wind ran its course.
As Hine looked over her claim for damage, Kuu trailed his hand over the small swell of his middle. While his face still wore no expression, his hands had a slight tremble to them. Kuu’s voice was smaller than before. “I didn’t land on your pup. They are fine, my warlord. I can continue, I will finish the task.”
Then Link’s eyes widened, shocked at what he was hearing and dreading the meaning of those words. Tempted to pray that he was misunderstanding the situation. As for Sado, he relaxed and sank back into his corner. Though he gave a small smirk when he realized Link that was now glaring at him. “Don’t break on me now, little hero.”
Bastard! Damn you to hell! Link gave his best snarl. The silver freak knew Link wouldn’t just give them what they wanted. But Link also wouldn’t knowingly put an innocent life in danger.
Defend the champions within him and fight back?
Or stop resisting and keep an unborn child from harm?
Link’s resentful eyes fell on the pregnant Hylian, a sickening feeling of guilt and fear settled within him. Unable to stop himself, he could now see Judo in Kuu and…himself. Link lowered his head in defeat and the ruby shield crumbled away.
Sado's deep, maniacal laughter echoed around the room. “Excellent! Marvellous!”
The next time Link lifted his gaze, it was to face the Hylian. He did not care that Hine threatened to kill him or watched his every move with a monstrous expression. What mattered was that he remained fixed on Kuu, a wordless promise that this wasn’t over, that he wasn’t simply giving in.
Kuu’s hand slipped into his chest like he was playing with a bowl of water. The clothing even seemed to ripple around the other’s hand. Watching how he did it and feeling this all happen at the same time made Link nauseous.
Try as he might to keep himself composed, to stay strong and prove he could take it. That they would have to do better to break him. And while it was true that it would take more than physical pain. The moment Kuu caught one of the souls he was fishing for. Link writhed and wailed once more. The brief minutes it took for the champion to be torn out felt so much longer than in actuality.
This soul was twilight blue, creating a deep sapphire.
Daruk... It was only the second extraction and it was already taking a huge toll on him. It was as though his strength had been cut in half with each loss. Feeling weaker, as though he was losing more than just their powers, their connection. Link didn't know if he could stay awake through the last one. Forgive me. Everyone. I promise, I will save you all and set you free.
As Kuu resumed and reached in to take Revali, Link readied himself for the pain, but felt none this time. Even before the light of the soul could emerge, Kuu stopped.
“What is it?” Hine asked, noticing his pause and that it meant more than something as simple as a break.
“He’s not screaming.”
Sado titters in amusement. “Having fun, are we?”
Not giving him any form of satisfaction by playing along, Kuu stated his find and ignored the question. “This soul is not tied to his. There aren’t only four souls in this body.”
Now this was a surprise. “A secret? With the records, there should only be three left as we took one months ago.” Sado approached to have a look, even if there wasn’t much to see.
“No. Unlike you, Sado, his body works.” Hine groaned in irritation, as this was just adding to her souse’s workload. “Though, I doubt you would have use for a premature soul.”
Link tensed up, but tried not to give any visual indication of how it affected him that they now knew he was carrying. The sickening amusement on Sado’s face was enough cause for alarm.
“My, isn’t this just precious! I could smell your building heat when we had that tiff in the square. Such a delicious taste lingered on my tongue for days.” He practically moaned with delight, voice rumbling in his throat. “I don’t doubt that he could have kept his hands off you. I dare well say, I nearly lost my mind. Little prince fucked you good, like a proper souse and even managed to pup you. Didn’t he?”
Still, Link managed to suppress any outward response, however no matter how he tried to ignore the vulgarity and keep his thoughts from wandering to Sidon. Sado was beginning to get under his skin; as much as he wishes to deny it, feelings of distress and shame were already on the rise. Not for what Sidon and he had done, but because he had got caught in possibly the worst situation right now.
“How long has he been mounting you, I wonder? It’s not common; even for a primal, to bring a souse of a different species to pup after just one heat or even a couple. Is that why you were in that room? His nest to routinely attempt to breed pups out of you.”
“A reason to challenge for the right of their pups would be problematic for your plans.” Kuu offered, bringing an end to the horrible ramble Sado was making before he could utter another word. “Fastest and easiest solution; removal of rival pups.”
Such a drastic suggestion caught Link off guard and irrationally tried to flee from Kuu’s reach, but Hine was expecting it. With one hand snapping around his neck, the force caused Link to hit the back of his head on the wall and left his vision swaying. Hine’s other hand grasping his thigh so roughly that he could feel her claws digging into his skin through his trousers. Trembling; from fear or exertion, the war of denial only aided his panic, his gaze snapping from the hand still submerged in his belly to Kuu himself.
Sado hummed dramatically in thought and paced about the small space, delighted over the idea, over the control he had in this very moment. “Just what are we dealing with?”
“I can’t tell what race without seeing the soul. Separating it even slightly will result in immediate death.”
“Numbers?”
“Unsure, I can only trap one soul at a time.”
“Surprises, surprises!”
Hine took her eyes off Link for a moment to glare up at the man. “Enough, Sado. Make a decision. If we’re caught by Yanun when she’s looking for you to start the ceremony, we’re all dead.”
“Fine, fine.” He sighed, annoyed that he couldn’t continue playing. Regardless if Hine was right. “I’ll let him keep it--them-whatever, if it even survives. Saves me some face if he is at least seen as bred in the first few months. Just get that other soul out and I’ll be on my way to prepare.”
Relief is not something he given much time to experience before Kuu releases the child’s soul to continue their task. Link barely manages to cling to consciousness after the last of the champions is turned into a gem. Peridot this time. He tried to embed the size, shape and colour into his memory, just like the others. Who knew if there was a way to tell them apart from normal gems so as far as he was concerned, every little detail was critical.
Sado took his trophy of jewels and left, though Hine would not be far behind. After she fixed Kuu’s black garments and hair, preening him so she was satisfied that he was perfect. She then pressed him against her, a trill growl came from Hine; protective and possessive. When Hine turned her gaze on Link, she flashed her teeth and tightened her hold on Kuu for a second, then she released him and left. Leaving just the two Hylians alone.
A minute hadn’t even gone by before Kuu asked an unusual question. “Does the primal treasure you.” Well, the words suggested one, but his voice remained hollow and almost ghostly.
When Link didn’t answer, Kuu placed his hand on Link’s stomach. It was unsettling, to feel such normal contact after all that. “Do you want to do this.”
Link struggled to lift his gaze to give Kuu a hard look. Was this some pathetic attempt to make amends? After baiting Sado like that? After turning the souls of the champions into trinkets!? This man would have to beg Hylia for forgiveness and mercy, because they wouldn’t get any from Link. But being left unable to answer, through the ache and exhaustion Link shifted as far away as his shackled wrists would allow. Curling his bound legs up to his chest and turning so his back now faced Kuu.
~~~~~~   ҉   ~~~~~~
“Aw, don’t tell me you’ve gotten all shy on me now.” Sado teased softly and roughly yanked Link’s legs towards him. Link struggled, being hard to deal with, but not putting up a real fight. Some energy for resistance had returned to the Hylian, but from the feel of things, Sado guessed he had an hour or so before Link became problematic to handle.
Hine didn’t even look at Link, dropping a lump of black cloth within arm's reach and procured her souse. Cupping Kuu in her arm like one would hold a house cat. She was in and out under a minute.
As the silver Zora set Link’s bound feet on his lap, he began to click a pair of shackles together just above the rope. “Wouldn’t want you to get cold feet.” He said with a smirk and then sliced the rope with his claws.
With his ankles no longer crossed and tightly bounded together, it was far more comfortable. Link swiftly drew his legs back and kicked Sado in the gills with his heels. His back braced against the wall only aided his limited strength. As Sado gasped and wheezed in pain, Link rolled away.
Had tried to roll away, before the other caught him by the hip. “That… that was a dirty trick!” He was pissed, but also smiling with glee. “But.” Sado dug his claws into the thick snow trousers, eyeing Link carefully. Not that he was worried about what Link was up to next, on the contrary, he loved it. Mere moments from the ceremony, after all the suffering they put him through, and Link was still resisting.
“What now, little one? Wasted energy, I say. You should have saved it for a better opportunity.” His voice rumbled on the borderline of a growl and Link did nothing other than keep a firm glare. “How about we just focus on getting you ready, hmm? Yanun is particular about these ridiculous things."
Sado effortlessly ripped Link’s clothing to ribbons, rather than even try to remove them properly. As it was being destroyed, Link was no longer protected by its abilities and the sudden drop in temperature made him tremble.
“Hmmm.” Sado paused to fiddle with the trinkets braided into the blond’s hair, eyeing the feathers in particular. “I think I'll leave this alone. It might make her uncomfortable.”
The Rito headdress was the only thing that Link believed kept him from freezing to death, and it was also the only thing Sado left him. If the Zora’s plan was to humiliate him, he was failing, Link could care less if anyone saw him naked. What Link still didn’t know or understand was why his clothing had been soaked to begin with. It wasn’t to wake him up. None of them clearly cared about waking after he was brought to wherever here was.
The contact of honed points jolts Link into focusing back on Sado, on his clawed fingers, slowly going over the expanse of his stomach. Even if his instincts screamed and all Link wanted to do was get away or fight back again. Link knew better not to. “Tell me, as a warrior, do you still feel like a souse? Do you feel the joy and thrill in being bred?” Sado asked with great amusement and Link felt an ever so slight change in pressure. Sado’s roaming claws did not break the skin, but left a trail of stinging, white marks. “Does your body still sing with felicity in knowing you bear fruit for a primal, for the little Prince?”
Something horrible stirred inside Link, he felt sick, his nerves hummed in confused fear and excitement. Helpless in this twisted man’s hands, helpless in Link’s own darkening mind, for giving into this very feeling. But if it weren’t for them, for what was festering in his guts. This wouldn’t be happening. None of this would have led to this. Any words from today would hold no bite, no affect, he could fight back without having to second guess anything. This… this is why I-!
“First lesson.”
Link gasped in pain as Sado sliced diagonally across his stomach with one claw. Blood spreading like a thick brush stroke over his cold, pale skin.
“If I ask you a question, you answer. I don’t care that you’re mute, you nod or shake your head.” He held the Hylian’s ankles in a bruising grip, preventing Link from fleeing or guarding himself. Link maybe had another second; he barely was even able to reply with a scowl, before Sado cut him again. Creating a lopsided, bright red X.
Stop! He thrashed in Sado’s hold, Link wasn’t thinking clearly, he wasn’t able to. Danger, escape, protect, at any cost, at any risk. Another pained noise made it past Link’s lips as all five claws pierced into the flesh of his lower belly. He was going to be gutted! No, no! Link shook his head frantically.
The claws withdrew and Sado’s smile returned in mock sweetness, content with the reply. “There, now that wasn’t so hard was it, little one?”
Link shook his head.
“Better. Don’t think for a second that I won’t hesitate to kill whatever may be in here.” He said simply and flicked harshly at the wounds just to make Link wince. Then he leaned in closer, hovering over top of Link, face inches from the other. “Games of the flesh are effortless and offer no challenge for me. Understand this; I would find more pleasure in forcing you to pick which of your friends will get the shell of who you once were, when I’m done with you. Than something as simple as mutilating your body.” Sado seemed utterly annoyed and disgusted that the words came from his own mouth. Sitting back up, he reached out with his bloody claws to the bolt fixing Link’s shackles to the wall and yanked it free with a few sharp tugs. He let the metal chain fall on Link. “So, play nice and we won’t bore ourselves with the barbarous games. Are we in agreeance?”
Swallowing his emotions in effort to regain some semblance of control over this situation, Link nodded.
“Oh, come now, don’t be like that. It’s not as though I plan to kill you. Where’s the fun in that? If I have any say in it, I would prefer that your friend killed you out of pity. So, don’t be so quick to jump to conclusions, little one.” Sado playfully bopped him on the nose and then yanked Link to his feet by the chains like some dark marionette. “Now, behave and I will reward you with less pain.”
For the brief duration of whatever Sado was preparing him for, Link complied and didn’t act upon any hasty ideas. The black garment that Hine had brought them didn’t give Link much of anything. It wasn’t warm, the light fabric barely dried Link off and it didn’t cover half of his body. It had a triangular design, hanging from the loose, bone collar piece. The open sides were held together with three ribs each.
“Stop picking at it and clean the blood off yourself.” Sado ordered and stood up. Link did what he could and utilized the moment to skim through the remains of his Snowquill tunic. Unsurprising, they had picked him clean before he regained consciousness. For now, he made a temporary bandage from the scraps and then straightened the outfit before the Zora could demand more.
With the chains in hand, Sado led Link out of the room. As they walked down the passageway, Hine was waiting for them at a large door and followed along into a great open space. At its centre was a ten foot ring of water, a faint steam rising from the surface. Link had almost mistaken it for a hot spring, but the light coming up from the depths suggested otherwise. That’s when it clicked, he was in an underwater cavern and Link’s eyes widened at realizing just how close to home he really was. We’re still in the Domain.
Deep beneath the Zora’s Domain is a magma chamber linked to Death Mountain. Boiling waterways that the Zora people have learned to direct to their home as needed. It keeps the main lake from ever freezing over and the bottom comfortably warm even in the coldest winters. The surface; and even the waters flowing through the palace, are about as cool as a lake in spring, but no less dangerous for anyone other than a Zora to be swimming in.
“I thought I told you to get rid of that sword.” Link heard Sado hiss at Hine and she was quick to snap back.
“Not unless you want to remodel.”
With a quick glance up at the confrontation and then around the room, the Hylian spotted what sword they argued over. Resting just shy of the water's edge was the Master Sword.
“My patience is wearing thin with your remarks, Hine!” He warned and loomed over the smaller Zora.
“It cannot be moved! The belt tore- you should have just kept it on the souse!”
Link rushed for it, having forgot about the chains and they gave away his intentions. Sado was quick to yank him back from obtaining the weapon and Link landed harshly on his side.
“Ho oh oh! That was soooo close!” He laughed and began to reel the small man in like some sort of fish on a line. In a last resort, Link kicked his legs out and managed to hit the tail end of the scabbard. It spun and wobbled along the edge before slowly tilting and slipping into the water. “And there it goes. Well, you won’t be getting it now, little one.”
Sado let the chain go slack and left Link to get back on his feet. It took more effort that necessary, again seemingly wasting what little strength he had regained. Sado may believe that was unfavourable, but with things as they were, Link was going to need backup. There were plenty of Zora in the Domain that knew what the Master Sword looked like and who it belonged to. Hopefully, it would be found and the guard would be informed. Bazz or Rivan would know what to do.
Link's cuffed wrists were harshly tugged as the pair of silver Zora headed for the door on the right. He huffed in irritation, but it didn't matter, now it was a waiting game. All he had to do was survive. Upon entering, Link observed that this hall was vastly different than the corridor he woke up in. Tapestries covered most of the walls and torches spaced out in between. They were all red with erratic, black ink painted images of fearsome shark like creatures. Each design was different, yet held similar characteristics; the head shape of a spear and multiple fins.
“It is unwise to test my patience.” A woman informed the approaching group. Link recognized the voice before Hine moved aside, it was the silver princess. She stood on a low platform before a massive statue carved right out of the wall. It was like the tapestries, a monster of the water, only this one's body was mostly bone. Fish were posed swimming out from it's body with strips of flesh in their mouths. The beast's wounds and flesh were adorned with rubies, while the rest was left to be natural rock. Ribs, claws and pointed fins surrounded the beast. Its jaw was rigged to a pair of chains that went through passages in the ceiling and appeared to be keeping the mouth firmly shut.
Sado got down on one knee. “It was not my intentions, but the spirit of this souse put a bit of a delay on his preparations.”
Yanun hummed and cast her gaze on Link. Her expression of distaste betrayed the calmness in her voice. “Welcome, blessed one, to our shrine.” She then looked to Hine. “You are Sado's witness for his trials of Prima?”
“Yes, Priestess.”
“How amusing... First Sado renounces his place,” She glares at the man for a moment. “so that you may take his role as my Warlord. And, now,” Then her gaze returns to Hine with more ferocity. “you are here to help him obtain a right that belongs to you.”
They say nothing and she continues. “For a pair that is known for the hatred between them, you two seem to help each other out in the most monumental of times with little hesitation.”
Hine scoffed. “I give no aid to this man. I’m here for my own benefit, as my own conviction is being tested.”
“I couldn’t agree more.” Sado grinned at his witness and then turned to his priestess. “I have prepared all requirements for the ceremony and I declare that my conditions of my trials complete.” He said as he gestured to a large barrel sitting nearby with a small bundle resting on top.
Yanun didn't even spare a glance to what was presumably Sado's offerings. She had saw them when she came into the hall to prepare for all of this. Anyone else would have laughed at the mockery. This was it? 'A land of wealth that Prima once had'? Three months was not long enough to complete such a task and the bastard had the guts to call for the ceremony! As she bit back her outrage, she coldly asked. “Are you certain you wish to begin? You are aware that the punishment of failure is death.”
“Come, little one.” He yanked Link forward. “This will be over shortly, I assure you that.”
Without pressing the matter any further, Yanun extended her left hand towards Link. “Souse, your chains are unnecessary. Primals, remove them.”
Link was confused as to why they were now setting him free. He wasn't so foolish to believe that he could fight them off, especially in his current state. But he did feel more relaxed with full mobility and for that he was grateful. Though there something clearly messed up going on with these silver Zora; no doubt being hidden from the native Zora, from King Dorephan. The stonework looming over Yanun was setting off not only red flags, but giving him a horrible sense of déjà vu. Link kneeled as Yanun dropped her hand.
“Let us begin.” Yanun said and turned to Hine. “Witness to the trials, come forth and give your pledge.”
Hine approached, standing on the pedestal as Yanun stepped to the side and faced the statue. At first Link thought she was going to recite a verse, but she dug her claws into her hand with a simple clench of her fist and smeared her blood over the crest. Like a spear dipped in blood. Hine then moved to kneel next to Sado.
“By law of Prima, to earn rights to life, both your lives will be taken at the expense of the primal's failure.”
To which Sado answered. “To be unfit to Prima's laws of strength, is to be food.” He then stood. “I have not failed. I have proven my trial of strength long ago and my trial of faith; is that Prima will be greatly pleased with me in the wealth of land I offer and my proof.”
“Then, primal, bring forth your proof. A land of wealth equal to that of what Prima lost.” Yanun watched him as he moved to retrieve the wrapped bundle. She was angry with him. Not only because he blatantly failed, but because he agreed to continue and she was now in a horrible position. With the terms, both Sado and Hine were to be killed. Two of her best warriors! That left her army at less than half the strength! Over what? Some stupid little game, to attempt to make a fool out of her?
Sado stood before her and then kneeled, offering the bundle wrapped in cloth. Yanun was disgusted, he didn't even have the decency to put any effort into presentation. However, she took the item without a word and unwrapped it. Dropping the scraps, all that remained was a flawed amber. “What sort of a joke is this. You failed, but for what means?” She snarled and spat. “For a laugh!?”
He smiled simply at first, though after the clear pause, he put on the theatrics. “Oh, how your words wound me, my Priestess. Does exceeding the requirements count as a failure?” Sado grasped at his heart as he held his head in his other hand. “Had I known that, I would have gone for something smaller, perhaps less useful? Oh, please, I do beg for your forgiveness!”
She scowled, realizing that she was indeed being toyed with and glanced at the amber in her hand. “And what, prey-tell, is this flawed gem meant to be? What worth is it to Prima?”
Dropping the act and still, oh so delighted. “I give you, my Priestess, the key to turning; not just the whole Zora territory or the Kingdom of Hyrule, but this whole damned world into Prima's Domain. The key to Vah Ruta.”
Link expressed no reaction. But his mind was whirling in turmoil. Link couldn't believe what he was hearing. What!? Were they planning to overthrow King Dorephan this whole time? Was conquering all of Hyrule their end goal? Regardless, there was no such thing as a key to a divine beast! Each was bound to a champion soul worthy of their power every ten thousand years! There was no way-
Kuu. That Hylian had the magic to make that nightmare a reality and Link had kept all the keys they needed.
Yanun expressed her pleasant surprise with a slight smile and then quirked a brow. The soulstone of Mipha. “Where did you find this?”
“At the bottom of the East Reservoir.”
“You are fortunate to have found this key, I am well aware of that weapon's capabilities.” She paused for a moment and gave it a test. It was not the first soulstone she had the rare opportunity to play with and was easy for her to channel its power. The amber flickered to life, glowing brightly.
I refuse to be a pawn once more!
Link could hear her voice, Mipha was still conscious and trying to fight back. I have to save her! But his body refused to move, he didn't so much as twitch. At first he thought that it was due to shock or the logical side of his mind holding him back from acting foolish again. But no. Link honestly could not move, not a wiggle of his fingers or even the batting of his eyelids. It was like being in a memory, only this time he was aware. However, it was no memory, this was now. He was trapped within his own body.
When?! When had this happened? Is this Sado's doing- no, he would have done so before hand. As would Hine. Then Link recalled his fight with Sado, how Yanun had punished him by twisting his body. She had done it all with the simple raise of a hand. Raise of a hand. She... she had done this to me the moment before they released me? It frightened him all the more to know he had been under her spell and had not felt anything. Had she been the one to control me at the castle too?
The light vanished and Yanun hummed with curiosity, before looking at Sado still kneeling before her. “While you have merely brought the promise of lands and nothing else. The risk you placed on such an item shows faith. Prima is more than pleased with this offering. You pass both trials.”
“As I expected.” Sado replied with pride. “Now, may we continue to the final act?”
His attitude normally would have ruined any joy she had at this moment. But with such a wonderful surprise, she couldn't be bothered and also wanted to end this as swiftly as possible. Yanun had other matters to attend to, plans to put into action.
She looked to Hine. “Release Prima's jaws.” Then back to Sado. “Bring forth the sacrifice.” As Hine walked over to a particular torch, it was revealed to be a lever as she pulled it down. A low whining of gears was heard above and then a rustle of chains as the maw dropped open. It was large enough that Link could have laid across with only his feet sticking out. Rows and rows of sharp, white, real teeth lined the entire mouth.
Just as Sado was cracking the lid off the barrel, Yanun beckoned Link over. “Come, souse.” Link wanted to refuse, but his body rose to his feet. His heart didn't even skip a beat, calmly pumping along like all was right in the world. Just how much control did she have.
As he sat under the statue's jaw, facing outward and Yanun sat in front of him.
“Best hurry while she is still kicking.” Sado held a plump, black shark by the tail. Yanun looked the flailing animal over with an unamused scowl. “What? I thought her to be fitting, adorned with the proper colouring of a souse and all.”
“Set her here.” Yanun pointed to the space between her and Link. Sado plopped the shark down with the belly facing the priestess. Kicking and biting aimlessly, Yanun grabbed hold of their head with her sharp claws. With her other hand she then cut open the bottom half of the shark's belly and small pups came flopping about. Yanun sorted through them. “Six pups, a decent number for such a small creature. Let us hope that you can do better in the short years you have, souse.”
With that finished, Yanun forced her hand through the shark's gills and ripped out the shark's heart. While the shark finally laid still, the heart remained beating in Yanun's hand as she held it out to Link. “Swallow the heart.”
Like the puppet she made him to be, Link's body moved without hesitation to take it and put it in his mouth. It was difficult, even if he was being forced by magic, to swallow it whole. I'm going to be sick. Link thought as he swore that he could still feel the heart moving in his stomach.
Yanun then picked up the shark, leaving the weakly kicking pups at her feet and set the body across the bed of teeth in the statue's maw. At first Link saw Hine set the lever back into place, then the next moment there is a sickening crunch and Link is showered in blood.
“Now that you have been cleansed,” Yanun held out her left hand and Link stepped out from under the remaining droplets. She carefully brushed the liquid away from his eyes. “I welcome you into the clan, souse. May Prima have you bless us with many primals.”
Sado sighed in irritation, just soft enough to get her attention, but not enough to warrant punishment. Though she still scowled as she turned Link to face him. As the giant sat, he put his forearm in front of Link's face. “Don’t hold back now.” Sado smirked and looked to Yanun, whom only responded with the flick of her fingers.
Link lurched forward and chomped down on Sado's arm. His teeth and jaw ached from hitting bone, but even his reflex to recoil from the pain had been held back. Warm blood gushed into his mouth, dripping down his chin like a ripe melon's juices. He wanted to spit it all out, but Yanun's control had him swallowing by the mouthful and burning his throat with every gulp. Link's chest sears with pain, like he was suffocating or someone was prying his rib cage open. Like that bastard was digging around inside again. It was disgusting, what they had done, what they were doing to him. Stop, damn you!
When Link let the arm go, all he could focus on was the agony and foul sensation coursing through his body. For a moment he believed his body would purge his stomach regardless of the magic at play. Regrettably, it held.
A dark purple light brought Link to focus again on what was happening before him. Sado's eyes were glowing as his soul seemed to spiral over his skin, like a tornado or whirlpool. No.
Link's gaze is shifted away as his head tilts to the side, baring his neck in offering. Don't you dare. I'll kill you!
Sado grabbed the Hylian's shoulder and a handful of hair, both actions were unnecessary as Link wasn't able to resist anyway. The Zora then whispered into Link's ear with a twisted smile. “This would have been less boring if you had played nice. I did warn you.” Sado pulled back far enough for Link to get a good look at his teeth before snapping his jaws down on the smaller man's body. The bite covered from the base of his neck to the shoulder. Link wasn't even able to scream as Sado's pointed teeth marred his flesh and crushed his collar bone. Anguish storms about Link's mind. His skin bursts into blue light as the pain digs its way down to his soul. Sidon!
He can feel his blood being sucked out of him and his vision begins to darken. Link can't take any more, he's pushed himself beyond exhaustion, carried on through too much suffering. First the champions were stripped from his soul and now his soul is being bound to another. Sidon! Please-!
“Now you're mine.”
Love Beyond the Grave
For the Linked Universe Discord prompt: Flowers + 1497 words + Song by author (don’t try singing it) + a flower reminding a Link of something + flower language
Do you know what a Locust Tree means?
Love is amazing
For it can do wondrous things
“Hey Link, do you know what plant this is?”
Mipha’s scaled hand was pointing at a tree. Taller than the two with groups of pink and white flowers among the oval leaflets, Link squinted at the tree before turning to Mipha.
“It’s a Locust Tree,” he replies. “I didn’t know they grew around Zora domain.”
“They’ve always been around,” Mipha mused. “And yet, the books in the Zora domain don’t mention them a lot.”
Link’s eyes survey the lower groups of flower before moving closer to one nearby. With deft fingers, the knight plucks the group of flowers from the tree. Mipha stares at him curiously and Link smiles at her. “I hear you can cook with flowers in another country, I’ve been wanting to try out a new recipe.”
“Speaking of new recipes, I’ve brought a fish pie with me for you to try.” Mipha holds up the picnic basket as she says this and laughs when she sees Link salivate.
“I’m afraid you’ll have to wait till later. But the sooner we get to Vah Ruta, the sooner we can eat!”
Link takes Mipha’s hand, not seeing her face flood with color. The two race up the mountain, laughter mixing together. And to a stranger, it might’ve been odd. A Zora Princess hand in hand with a Hylian Knight, but for the Zora who had history and lives going more than centuries, it didn’t bother them. A Zora Princess in love with a Hylian Knight, it had happened before after all.
It is never ending
And always around
He wondered what the Zora King felt whenever he saw Mipha’s Zora armor. He felt guilty when he first wore it, when Muzu exclaimed Mipha had made it and saved it for her future husband who he believed to not be Link.
King Dorephan and Prince Sidon were the kind ones, they didn’t blame him, they shared his sorrow in losing Mipha.
100 years. The King had the armor for a hundred years, and Wild wondered what he felt when he saw the armor? Did he see the future Mipha might’ve had? The future they could’ve had?
Like a flower
It starts from the seed so small
Mipha was older than him, Zora lived to hundreds of years. And yet, Link made a friend in her. Children were supposed to play tag and play pranks, but Link had to sword fight and study enemies. He joined Mipha’s spear fighting class and the two bonded over that. He showed her how he executed a spin attack and she in turn learned how to do an attack with multiple stabbing for spears and tridents.
Then it grows
It makes its presence known to all
Even in the midst of destruction
The blossoms grow among the blood
For nothing can stop
The growth of love the flower
When he was old enough and stood height to height with Mipha, that was when it changed. Gone were childhood feelings of fondness. Link was an adult, the captain of the Royal Guard. He replaced love and time for relationships with more training. But Mipha was still there, a steady rock in the rushing river of life. He saw her constantly, while his eyes changed, the blue in them becoming honed chips of ice.
He was no longer a child but he would always retain a fondness for Mipha. And when the preparations for Calamity Ganon began, Mipha began to realize.
This was not the same Hylian child she met. Link was a grown man. But Mipha would see from time to time, the shards of the child she met, the innocence and vulnerability he retained.
And she saw that she was the few he felt safe enough with to do so. The few that knew what his expressions hid. She caressed his cheek when she saw a particular troubling expression and would always ask: ”Is everything alright?”
And he would go silent and mumble, “yes.”
She was pleased, happy he held her in such regard. She began growing nervous lately, wondering what jewelry to adorn, if she ought to wear perfume for him. And then she realized, she was in love.
That love grew to the point she began gathering materials for the Zora armor.
Like love a flower has potential for growth
But love has a friend who brings surprises
It’s name is Fate
The life changer
She watched them from Hyrule Castle, the Princess and the Knight, along with the King, Revali, Urbosa and Daruk. She no longer felt the jealousy she once harbored towards the Princess. She felt calm, at ease. That Link had a companion in this world.
She still loved him, but what could one do for a lover when they were gone?
So she let the contentment fill her soul as she whisked off to Zora Domain. To see Zelda and Link.
Love when grown and cultivated
Can go beyond the caress of Time
Beyond death’s hand
Beyond the grave
“Link! Link!” Princess Zelda and Link were shocked to see Sidon running towards them. “There’s been an event! You must come see!”
The Knight and the Princess were whisked to Vah Ruta, sitting in Lanayru Great Spring. The Zora had left a monument there for Mipha but it was not alone. The statue built in likeness to the one in town was shrouded in trees filled with pink and white flowers. Locust trees surrounded the mechanical beauty and with it, the statue. Pink and white flowers had fallen and drifted to the water, the green trees making Vah Ruta look like it was rising and trumpeting from a forest to the sky above.
“The trees just sprouted!” Sidon exclaims but Zelda and Link weren’t listen. “Out of the ground and growing faster than an Octorok shooting a target!”
Zelda cupped her hands over her mouth in surprise and Link...
Had tears rolling down his cheeks.
For love is eternal
And forever in the air
It’s blossoming invisible
Except for the fruits it bears
“Wild! Wild!” Wind exclaims to grab the older’s attention before accidentally ramming backwards into a tree, eliciting a shower of leaves, petals and flowers. And soon, the only sign of Wind’s form were the two eyes amidst a pile of green leaves and pink and white petals.
Legend’s laugh booms off the stone, along with other forms of amusement in their group. Sky and Twilight move to relieve the younger hero of his predicament while the others bound through the sea of Locust trees, curiosity in their heels.
Wild leaves them be, his hands move to his pack to bring out a wrapped package, a fish pie with smoke still wafting from it. He makes his way through the trees, the familiar sight and scent of them comforting. A stray branch brushes his ear but instead feeling startled, the branch nearly goes unnoticed.
But Wild feels it.
For it felt like the caress of a familiar pair of hands.
He finds the rest of the group in the middle of the forest, where Mipha’s statue stood, proud and beautiful. He saw there had been fresh fish and baskets of fruits left by the Zora at the foot of the statue and gifts his companions left ranging from fruit to flowers.
A smile quirked his face as he came closer to place the fish pie at the foot of the statue. When Wild turned to his companions, he found them all staring back.
“You know,” Legend quips. “If you had wanted to see her, you could have said so.”
“Oh shush, Legend,” says Warriors. “He said he wanted to take us somewhere beautiful and he’s done exactly that.”
“What are all these trees? They seem to only grow here, Wild.” Wind inquires.
“They’re Locust trees,” says Hyrule. “But Wind’s right. This is the only large group of Locust trees.”
“There’s a meaning behind it, isn’t there?”
Time’s eyes slice to Wild, but the former’s face is full of cheekiness.
Wild hums and he looks up to the statue’s face.
“Do any of you know what the Locust tree means?”
“Probably something with affection,” says Warriors who gets elbowed by Twilight.
“They don’t always mean affection, you can actually insult someone through flowers.”
“Really?” Wind’s eyes are wide. “But I wanted to send some to my sister!”
“Some flowers do that, but you can send your sisters these flowers if you’d like.”
Wild motions for Wind to follow him and leads him to trees with prettier blooms, Time and Sky following after deciding to send some to their own loves. As the four pick flowers, Wind decides glances at Wild.
“What do these flowers mean, Wild?”
Wild’s hands stop and a full smile tilts his lips.
“They mean love, love beyond the grave.”
Love is eternal
Love goes beyond
Limits and time
And death and it’s allies
The Zora Prince & His Champion
Prince Sidon X Reader
Summary: You were always the champion of Hyrule...you've defeated Calamity Ganon and experienced a world of absolute adventure meeting many along the way and experienced great trials and tribulations...Now that things were quieter you hardly expected such another adventure!
(A cute short little moment...Oh dear, he's adorable isn’t he!)
Tumblr media
“AHA!” A voice sang-shouted from out of nowhere.
You stopped in your tracts, in the middle of the bridge and ran to the railing almost tripping over in anticipation as you stagger to grab the rail and lean down overlooking nothing, but clear open water sparkling in the sun's rays. The jingling of your Gerudo attire’s jewelry against your chest and forehead. Your (h/c) hair peeking from the smooth and soft blue hood and cloth covering your face and your head.
After waiting for only a second the water erupted below you and you flung yourself back but not avoiding being pelted by water as the figure lept out of the water and landed with a thud behind you. Still blinded from the water as it trailed down your face and caused your hair and hood to droop down. You wiped your face frantically with your sleeve and turned around, to view the rising yet still blurry tall form of Zora Prince, Sidon.
Just as your vision cleared, you saw him bound towards you and they held you with such strength as he lifted you off the ground in a hug that restricted your arms against your sides.
You let out a choking sound as he smooched you against his damp chest rocking you back and forth.
“OH CHAMPION I KNEW IT WAS YOU!” He moves his hands grabbing you from under your sore shoulders and holds you in front of him like a cat, your expression a mixture of embarrassment and annoyance.
His eyes look you up and down intensely his eyes scrunched in focus then widened in astonishment.
“You look so very different…”  he cocks his head and gives you a wide sharp-toothed grin “You look just as nice as you do normally my champion!” He says.
You were so glad you had the cloth over the lower have of your face because you were blushing and couldn’t hide the smile.
“Were you heading over to the Zora Domain?” He asks still holding you like a limp cat as if it was normal.
You tell him, yes and the fin on his head does a little wag before he swings you around towards the other end of the bridge towards his kingdom still holding you tightly.
“WERE YOU COMING TO SEE ME Y/N? OR IS THERE SOMETHING MORE DIRE AT HAND?!”
 He shouts beginning merrily and then ending the sentence seriously as he pulls you close trying to see if the sense of danger was on you face.
You say everything was just fine and ask Sidon politely if he could let you down as his claws were now pointing your skin uncomfortably, and you swore he was crushing your ribcage.
“Oh!” He sets you down gently, and the drop felt like you were going down on a paraglider it was so far from the ground.
“I’m sorry (y/n), I got too excited… are you alright?” He raises your arms individually checking your underarms and your sides and you let me reluctantly rolling your eyes with a smile.
“You look fine! Of course you are! You are a strong and mighty warrior!”
Sidon steps back and rubs the back of his head bashfully. His teeth gleaming in the sunlight…He then studies you with his eyes again… his eyes trail down to your midsection.
After watching him stare at your body for more than a minute, you make a smug grin and gesture a finger up towards your eyes playfully with a hand on your hip and you watch him blush in response and stare off into the distance behind you trying to avoid your gaze.
“I’m so very sorry, (y/n)! You truly have the body of a warrior, I was appreciating how to fit you are, as you see…”
He raises his arm and flexes with a grin. “...You never cease to amaze me my champion!” You blush and turn around to hide it and as soon as you do you feel a hand place itself on your shoulder.
“Come! Let us head back together! I do hope you’re staying for a while, It seems like forever since we last saw each other my champion!”
You nod with a grin and he keeps his hand on your shoulder and you two walk off the other side of the bridge before he stops you.
“How about we take the water route? You can ride on my back again! I’m sure you can hold on after what you went through that time!” You agree and he turns around, you hoist yourself on his back which he helps with, after making sure you were secure he stood up fully and looked off the cliff edge.
“Let's be off my love!” he sang.
This phrase was unexpected, but you didn’t have time to process it before you stomach lurches as he jumped into the air, you pressed your face against his back and hold your breath as you felt you both submerge underwater for only a second only to resurface and speed through the lake, the water splashing you gently. You watched the sights blaze past you and the water rushing across your waist and submerged feet, your arms holding onto his shoulders tight.
A smile was plastered on his face, and his gaze was focused on his path.
You ask him about how he was doing…
“I've been absolutely great my champion, I’ve been making sure my people are happy and healthy, fulfilling requests of my father whenever needed!”
His smile widened as tilted his head looked at your face.
“I've been kept busy but feel as if I have a long way to go before I become strong like you, champion… but I know that I can get there!”
He gives you a thumbs up before rising into the air in a huge arch causing you to slam against his back and wrap your arms around his lower chest for dear life. You feel him tense up as your fingers press themselves against him and he chuckles nervously as he continues to maneuver the waters.
“Ive missed you quite a lot (y/n…)I hope I don’t… annoy you with how proud I am of you…”. Your face leans against his back as his speed quickens listening to this soothing voice.”
“You are quite the (man/woman)…“ he clears his throat “...Hyrulean... I see what my sister saw in you…It is very clear…”
Your fingers tighten in a hug.
“I- I know you may have loved my sister a lot…even though…I don’t believe it was the same way she felt about you…” The sun fell on his back the water droplets shining in its rays.
“But…I do know you cared for her deeply…but perhaps…”
You saw the entrance to the Zora Domain but were focused on Sidon’s words alone. “You..care for me as well…differently…I hope?”
Suddenly two Zora guards popped from under the water at Sidon‘s sides trailing behind him unable to keep up with his speed.
“Hello, Champion!”
“Hello (y/n)!”
Hey shouted to you,
“Welcome back my prince!” they both said in unison.
You wave to them both and open your mouth to answer Sidon but your cut short by the sudden leap he made onto the marble landing that was now in front of you, the two guards followed. He stood upright for a moment, you still grasping onto him, the guards looking at you with an embarrassed smile. Making you bashfully, slide off him.
Tumblr media
He slowly turns around towards you, his height making you feel queasy in a good way. You tried to resist staring at him the way he did you back at the bridge by focusing intensely at his yellow eyes.
“I hope you understand what I mean… champion” he says, his voice a tad bit calmer than It was usually, as there was more emotion behind it.
“I hope my sister… can forgive me for my feelings… but I feel…” his eyes stare back at the water you two both exited.
The guards behind you now, carefully made their leave blushing hard at what they had heard.
“… I feel as if she… could. I hope she understands that…” Sidon suddenly leans down on one foot, his eyes closer to your eyes yet still towering you slightly.
“I can’t help but fall in love with the (man/woman) I see before me…”
With that, you raise your hand to the side of his face which he grasps and presses against him harder.
The texture of his face, was so interesting, almost lacking any type of wetness even though you just both got out of the water, it was…a tad bit rubbery…a bit cold but still warm.
His red and white figure was intimidating yet soothing, his muscles defined and his stature, of course, huge.
“I hope I’m not making you uncomfortable (y/n…) please tell me if I’m doing so…I do hope we can still be friends if you do not wish to be something more than that. My partner. You may call it..”
You take off your mask and cowl and your wet hair flops against your face. You show him your smile and you say that you would like to be closer to him in such a way.
With your answer, his teeth shown in a glimmering huge grin, his eyes filled with happiness even he did not show before.
Tumblr media
“OH HOW YOU MAKE ME SO THRILLED MY CHAMPION!
 “I promise to you that I will always be by your side!”
He then swoops you up in his arms and you both spin around in a circle laughing.
“I will protect you my champion! I will do whatever it takes to make sure your happy and feel welcome, always, in my kingdom. Come!” He sets you down gently and holds onto your hand tightly, covering it entirely.
“I must tell my father that we’ve started a relationship! Oh, won’t he be pleased!”
With that, both of you walk into the throne room and start a whole new adventure of your own...
Shadows of Hyrule | Chapter 17
To Mipha's dismay, the rest of the week went on just as it did the previous week: instead of meeting Link after school and enjoying their usual walk home together, Link had found some excuse to cancel their plans. And when he wasn't kind enough to at least offer an excuse, he was avoiding her – and the rest of their friends – completely. More than once, she even caught him hurrying out the back of the school. And even when she didn't see where he went off to, she was certain that it was to be with Zelda.
And she wasn't the only one that had noticed his strange behavior. Though most of her friends blew it off completely, rumors had started to circulate through the school, and those rumors did catch the interest of their group of friends.
It was the middle of the week, and Mipha found herself, yet again, without anyone to walk home with. She stood on the outskirts of the group, her eyes scanning for Link. She hadn't seen him sneak out the back, but that didn't mean he didn't find another way to avoid her. She frowned, listening as the topic of the latest rumors surfaced once more, just as she caught sight of him sliding into the town car with Zelda.
“There's just no way he's screwing Hyrule's princess,” Daruk said, shaking his head. “She's way out of his league.”
“Maybe she's into losers,” Revali said with a shrug. “Why else would they be sneaking around like that?”
“Doesn't look like he's doing much sneaking, now,” Teba pointed out.
“Clearly a cover up,” Revali said. “You know, studying.” He wiggled his fingers in the air, indicating air quotes.
Riju craned her neck to see around the crowd that exited the school. “I don't know,” she said. “It's too random. I mean, they've never so much as spoke to one another.”
“I'm sure it's better when he doesn't talk,” Revali said. “Everything is better when he doesn't talk.”
Urbosa examined her nails, regarding Mipha at the corner of her eye, adding nothing more to the conversation. Mipha shifted her weight on her feet. She turned her gaze back to the school where her brother exited with his friends. He caught her gaze and offered her smile, but it melted away and his brows knit together. He spoke to his friends before trotting over to his sister.
“Going home?” he asked. He turned his gaze to the road. “No Link again?”
“He's getting laid,” Revali said with a shrug. “Do you really expect him to hang out with us over that?”
Sidon frowned down at his sister. “You really think its true?”
Revali moved an open hand out, gesturing towards the town car, his expression stating that this should have been an obvious deduction.
Mipha cleared her throat. “No,” she started in answer to her brother. “I, uh, have some things to do first.”
Sidon's lips twisted to the side, but he shrugged. “Alright.”
Without waiting to hear another word about the rumors, Mipha waved a hand over her shoulder as she left the group. She watched as the town car pulled away from the curb and down the road, pausing only when it reached the intersection further down.
Her brows knit together as she made her way down the road, keeping close to the trees and watching closely as the car turned. She broke into a jog until she reached the intersection, catching a glimpse of the vehicle as it moved further down. The blinker signaled an upcoming turn, and Mipha once more broke into a jog, cutting through alleyways and backyards in an attempt to keep up with it. She continued on in this manner, even when the car continued in a direction that did not lead to the palace.
Before long, and only after losing the car for a brief moment, she pressed herself against a rock wall as the car took its final turn, moving up the slope of the road and turning into the dirt path that lead to the shrine. Mipha regarded the shrine atop the hill for a moment, hidden slightly from the road by the manicured cherry blossoms and various bushes and plants. The car disappeared as it rounded the corner, but Mipha did not step away from the wall. Her brows furrowed together as she stared at the shrine. The rumors had seemed entirely plausible to her before that moment. In fact, thinking back on them, they made a whole lot more sense then this. What could Link and Zelda possibly be doing at an old shrine?
Mipha couldn't make heads or tails of any of it. It only confused her more, and her confusion turned to frustration, then anger. What the hell was so secretive between them? Why were they always sneaking off? Were they coming to the shrine every single day, and for what purpose? Link told her everything. What was he hiding? Should she be worried?
And then her anger did turn to worry. Her lips pinched together and her stomach knotted with the anxiety of not knowing. She sucked in a breath and decided she would find out once and for all. If Link wasn't going to tell her, she would make him. No more secrets, she wanted answers.
She looked up and down the street, but there were no cars or pedestrians in sight. She hurried across the street and pressed herself against the fence that lined the lawn that stretched up towards the shrine. She inched along it, keeping in the shadows of the trees, and peered around up the dirt road. The car was not in sight, so she made her way up the drive, keeping to the side of the road, within the trees.
She moved slowly, hiding behind a tree as she neared the curve in the road and peering around once more. The road moved away from the protection of the trees, opening up as it crested the hill to where the shrine stood. The town car was parked off to the side and there didn't seem to be anyone in sight. She deducted that they must have gone inside, so she continued her way up the road, keeping a little deeper in the trees in hopes of staying out of sight from the windows. When the trees cleared, she had nothing left to offer her adequate coverage; all that stood between her and the shrine was the open stretch of road that lead up to the shrine and looped back around in a circle. There was a rock wall near the loop in the drive, just before the hill sloped down, but getting over to it would leave her exposed, and even further away from the shrine.
She couldn't see anything from where she stood, so she decided to chance it. She hurried up the rest of the drive, pressing her body against the outer wall of the shrine when she reached it. She dared to get close to the window, peering in as best as she could, but the room was dark. Except for a desk and a few book cases, the room was empty. Still, she ducked below it as she hurried on, crossing the door and moving to the other side of the building, pausing just before the next window. She sucked in a breath, steadying herself, and inched close enough to peer into the shrine.
Impa threw open the window and leaned outside, peering at Mipha. “You know what I do to spies?” she asked, her brows furrowed together.
Mipha squeaked and stepped back.
“You’ve got company,” Impa shouted over her shoulder.
Zelda peered over Impa and smiled at Mipha. “Oh, Link, it’s your girlfriend.”
Mipha’s cheeks reddened.
Paya peered under Impa’s arm. “Girlfriend?”
Link’s face appeared over Impa’s other shoulder. His brows knit together when he saw Mipha. “What are you doing here?”
Mipha’s eyes moved from each one of them, speechless for a moment. “I… uh… What are you doing here?” Her eyes fell on Impa. “What is this, a dojo or something?”
Zelda rolled her eyes and moved away from the window, disinterested.
Impa moved her gaze to Link and grinned. “Dojo,” she said. “Yes. I’m teaching him Kung Fu.” Impa, too, rolled her eyes and stepped away, and Paya quickly followed suit, leaving Link alone at the window with Mipha.
“Did you follow me here?” Link asked, narrowing his eyes at her.
Mipha averted her gaze. “I’m sorry,” she said quickly. “We haven’t talked in weeks. And you kept disappearing with Zelda and Paya. Goddesses, it looked like you were running a whore house or something.”
Link grinned. “Are those the latest rumors?”
Mipha glared at him. “Why didn’t you just tell me?”
Link hesitated, his grin disappearing quickly. He needed an excuse, and fast. He shrugged. “I didn’t think it was a big deal,” he said. “It’s just… karate. Dad was on my case about being a lazy bastard so here I am.”
Mipha frowned. “He didn’t say that.”
“He was thinking it.”
Mipha still wasn't convinced, however. She looked passed him and into the room, but Impa, Zelda, and Paya were no longer there. “I didn’t know Zelda and Paya were into karate, too,” she said.
“Yeah, me neither. Not until I started.”
“I guess it makes sense,” Mipha said thoughtfully. “I’m sure her father would want her to know some basic self defense. Can’t have guards following you around everywhere.”
“Yeah, sure. That would make sense.” Phew.
Mipha met his gaze. “So, are you going to like, do any competitions or something?”
“I don’t think so.”
Mipha smiled. “Why not? I bet you’re good at it. I’d come and cheer you on.”
Link rolled his eyes. “No. I’m actually terrible at it.” That, at least, was the truth.
“Well, don’t let me keep you from practicing,” she said. She stepped away from the window. “Just stop avoiding me, okay?”
“Sure.” He hadn’t realized how strange it must have looked that he was suddenly always hanging around with Zelda and Paya. “I’ll see ya tomorrow.”
“Yeah, alright. See ya.” She watched as he disappeared from the window. She wasn't sure what to make of it all, but Link had never lied to her before. Perhaps it really was just karate, though she wasn't sure why he had felt the need to keep it a secret from her. Then again, he wasn't exactly the most athletic – or ambitious – person in the world. There was a good chance he'd drop it all soon, anyway, and go back to being his usual self.
She always gave him a hard time about his lazy work ethic, but now, she only wanted him to go back to being the carefree Link she had always known. The Link she loved.
Siren Song
[link to Ao3 | part 1 in a series]
Sidon was made for the sea.
Sure, his titles and regalia might insist otherwise, that he was a prince doomed to a life of papers and courtesy and fancy dinners - all of which he could do quite well, of course, but none of which were particularly interesting, let alone his passion.
The sea, though. The sea had called to him since he was a young boy, trailing after his older sister. Every morning, when the tide had rolled back out, they would walk along the shore, searching in the pools left behind for little fish. Sidon had dutifully carried the bucket full of water, while Mipha scooped up the fish, careful to avoid hurting them, and gently placed them into the bucket. When they had walked as far as they could go, Mipha would take the bucket from him, count the fish they had found, and carried it to the shoreline. Just as carefully as she had rescued the fish, she submerged the bucket before turning it over, letting the fish swim away into the sea again.
“The sea takes care of us, Sidon,” he remembered her saying in that soft voice. “We must be sure to take care of it the same way.”
He remembered those words in his darker moments as well, starting with the news that his beloved sister had been on a ship caught in a storm, swept overboard and lost to the waves. Where was the sea’s care then? Had Mipha been wrong?
But the sea still called to him. It called to him as he learned to read and write, called to him as he practiced rolling melodies on the piano, called to him as he learned the history of his people. And every morning, he dutifully walked with a pail of water, watching as the fish seemed to grow smaller as his body grew larger, until he could pick up the smallest of them in a single cupped hand. He knew the danger of the water, but couldn’t escape its beauty.
It was returning from one of these morning walks, almost at the foot of the cliff where the castle stood, that he heard the sound of laughter. Bright, bubbly, almost childlike; he turned to look behind him, where the sound came from, but found nothing. Perplexed, Sidon shrugged with his typical good cheer and continued heading for the castle. The laughter came again. This time, it seemed to come from farther up the shore, near where the cliff met water. Overcome with curiosity, Sidon set his bucket down, heading over to the water.
“Hello? Is someone out there? I know the water is quite lovely here, but it can be dangerous, especially for a child! If someone’s there, please - ”
He was cut off by the same laughter, but was startled to see that from the spot where it emanated, a face had appeared under the water. He couldn’t see much other than bright blue eyes and golden hair floating about their face. Immediately he feared for their safety, sure that they would run out of air if they stayed under much longer.
“Hold on!” Sidon began rolling up his pants, quickly wading into the water after the stranger. To his surprise, they only pushed their head above water, laughing again as they propelled backwards, eyes fixed on the prince’s. Without the barrier of the water, the laughter was even more entrancing; alarm ebbing away, Sidon followed them, curiosity replacing his fright. The stranger seemed playful, splashing water his way before retreating yet again, smiling brightly at Sidon. He couldn’t help but follow, now up to his waist in water.
He was almost to the point where he would need to start swimming when a sharp voice cut through his thoughts, which were now solely focused on the stranger.
“Your highness!”
The stranger startled, diving below the water again as Sidon gaped. He watched as a dark spot sped along the side of the cliff, disappearing around the curve. Angrily, he turned to the intruder - one of his father’s most trusted advisors, an old man named Muzu.
“Muzu! You’ve gone and frightened them! Now they’re in deeper water. What if they get in trouble?”
Muzu wrinkled his nose. “Unlikely, your highness, as that was no human. You nearly let yourself be seduced by one of the merfolk. If anyone was in trouble, it would be you.”
Sidon glanced back to where the stranger - merfolk? - had disappeared. “They didn’t seem to be so bad. I think they just wanted to play.” A bit of gold reappeared from beyond the bend, and his new friend slowly peeked back out, hands gripping the wet rock. Lifted out of the water as he was now, Sidon could see that he was a young man, lean but muscled, his tanned waist blending down into rich blue scales. Strands of something glittered over his chest, while fabric rode low on where his hips would be on a human. Sidon bit his lip to avoid saying anything and alerting Muzu to his continued presence.
“No merfolk just wants to play,” Muzu corrected, loathing in his tone. “Merfolk hate humans and would drown them all if they could.” Sidon spared a look to the merman, who rapidly shook his head, eyes wide. “Why one came so close to the land, I would not know; probably some nefarious purpose, bored of terrorizing the open sea. If I have told his majesty once, I have told him a thousand times: we ought to catch and kill any we see, to protect our sailors.”
Sidon’s new friend quailed at this, pulling out of sight. With a barely audible splash, his shadow sped away again, until even that was swallowed up by the waves.
“Muzu!” Sidon snapped again, brows furrowing. “Enough. Why are you here?”
“Have you no idea of the time? You are supposed to meet with visiting nobility in less than an hour! You must hurry to be dressed and ready. Your father will be most displeased if you arrive late - again.”
Sidon sighed, shoulders dropping. In that, at least, Muzu was right, so he followed the old Zora up the steps that lead back to the castle. That night, however, his dreams were plagued with golden hair and spellbinding blue eyes.
-
Every day that followed, Sidon kept an ear out for the telltale laughter that signaled the arrival of his friend, but he was nowhere to be found. Days turned into weeks; weeks turned into months. He had almost given up on seeing the beautiful merman again when he found himself in a secluded cove, a place he had found years ago and visited when the pressures of princehood began to weigh too heavily on his shoulders. He had barely settled onto a roughly hewn bench, eyes drifting shut for a moment, when he heard a light splash followed by bright laughter.
His eyes shot back open, heart leaping into his throat. Despite only hearing it a handful of times, he could recognize that laugh anywhere. Sure enough, after a moment the merman popped above the water, beaming at Sidon. Sidon hurried to the edge of the water, kneeling down as his friend drifted over to him, pushing himself up into the cool evening air. From this closer view, he could see that it was shells cascading over his chest, strand after strand, and the fabric tied around his waist had yet more tied along its length.
“Good evening!” Never let it be said that Sidon forgot his manners. “I was beginning to think you’d been scared off!”
The merman laughed again at this, shaking his head.
“Good, good. Muzu makes quite a ruckus, I know, but he can’t harm you. You have my word.”
The merman tilted his head, looking amused.
“Ah - right, but I should introduce myself. I am Sidon, prince of the Zora kingdom!”
The merman made a sweeping bow that almost dunked his face back in the water before grinning up at him again, but made no move to give his own name.
“And you are…?” Sidon gently pressed. The merman had yet to say a single word. For a moment, he wondered if he had rambled too much, talked when the merman had wanted to speak. But still his friend remained silent, smile sliding into a thoughtful frown. “I’m sorry, have I been rude?”
The merman was quick to shake his head, waving his hands back and forth to reinforce the gesture. He pointed to himself, then hit one index finger with another. This was followed, to Sidon’s growing confusion, by the merman holding up four fingers, tapping his chin with his index.
“I’m - I’m sorry, I don’t understand what that means.”
His friend watched him for a moment, clearly thinking of how to try again. After a moment, he tapped his throat and shook his head.
“You can’t… speak. Is that right?”
The merman nodded, pleased that this time Sidon had understood.
“Oh! My dear friend, I am so sorry. And here I’ve been prattling on at you…”
The merman waved his hands again, shaking his head even more rapidly than before. His eyes lit up, and he pointed to himself again, then formed interlocking circles with his hands, tugging them against each other before giving Sidon a hopeful look.
“You - your name? That means your name?”
The merman nodded vigorously, repeating the second sign again. It almost looked as though he were mimicking the chains that were used to haul cargo onto ships.
“Chain?” Sidon ventured, earning an exasperated look. The merman flipped his tail - Sidon felt a thrill as it breached the water, an alluring shade of teal with the same gold as his hair at the tips - and dove into the water, popping back up again after a moment and staring at him, making the sign again. Sidon could practically feel the exaggerated patience the merman had. “Not chain, but…” The merman used one hand to point at the circle his other made before linking them back together. Hold on - “Link? Is that it?”
Link beamed at him, nodding. Sidon laughed, more out of surprise than anything else.
“Link. Your name is Link. And how would you show my name, then?”
Link pointed at Sidon, eyes flashing in amusement, but didn’t elaborate further. Sidon gave him a playful grimace.
“No, I mean, to others. How would you show my name to others?”
The merman quickly moved through a series of signs with one hand. Sidon blinked. Link laughed, that beautiful, sparkling laugh, and pointed to himself again, then drew a little circle in the air above his forehead.
“You… you’ll think about it?” Link nodded, and Sidon felt quite proud of himself. It seemed he was beginning to understand how his lovely merman talked. He leaned forward, clasping his hands together. He wanted to take Link’s hands in his, but after learning his only way to communicate, it didn’t feel appropriate. “Wonderful! I hope we become good friends this way, Link.”
Link’s laughter echoed off the cove’s walls, and Sidon could feel himself melt.
The Mark of Destiny Ch. 10 (A Sidlink Au)
Chapter  10: Fate Ever Changing
Link rose late the next day, lifting his tired head from the pillow, a little confused by his surroundings. This wasn’t his room. Where was he?
He shifted himself in the bed, regretting it quickly as a shot of pain came from his backside. He hissed in pain, rubbing his sore lower back.
Memories of the night before went fast to his brain. The recital and being so close to Sidon…and then them coming back to Sidon’s home and doing that for the first time.
A heavy flush came to his cheeks and he couldn’t help but bury his face in his blankets. He was very happy that this had happened. It was a dream come true. And now he couldn’t stop thinking about the way their bodies moved together.
But where was Sidon anyway?
Before he could even finish the thought the bedroom door opened. There his redheaded match stood, a tray in his hands and a large smile on his face.
He was dressed in nothing but sweatpants, his hair pulled back into a ponytail draping over his back in a sweep of hair.
The smell of bacon and eggs rose to Link’s nose and he couldn’t help but inhale slowly, his mouth watering at the smell of the delicious breakfast.
“Morning,” Sidon said with a chuckle as Link sat up with a small grunt. “I brought you some breakfast.”
Link adjusted himself so that he wasn’t in so much pain, smiling in appreciation as Sidon set the tray down on his lap and took a seat next to him.
“Thank you,” Link replied, immediately starting to eat the delicious food. Oh he could get used to this sort of quality time with him. Bare in bed eating breakfast.
“How are you feeling? I’m sorry that you’re in pain,” Sidon said, knowing that Link was feeling it in his bottom. “I think I went a little too rough with you last night.”
“Don’t apologize for that,” Link said after he swallowed a mouthful. He leaned over to give his cheek a small kiss. “I loved every moment of it. So what if I’m in a little pain?”
Sidon relaxed and kissed his head. “Well I’m glad that you loved it. I did too…”
Link grinned and picked up a piece of egg to give to Sidon. The redhead took it into his mouth before speaking.
“I got a call from my cousin. She said she wants to talk to you about something,” Sidon said. Link paused. Why would his dance instructor want to talk to him? Usually they had about a week of relaxation before they were expected to show up to classes again to start the next dance lessons for the next show.
“Did she say why?” Link asked.
“No, but she said it was important that you see her for it. I’ll drop you off on my way to work. Someone called out so I need to pick up the shift.”
Link nodded his head. He had been hoping to spend the day with Sidon but he understood that other responsibilities came first.
They had a whole life to be with one another.
Link stepped into the dance studio with a slight limp, a little bothered still by how empty it was but also from the lack of his twin with him.
He rarely came there without her by his side.
“Cyra?” Link called out into the room.
“Thank the goddesses that you waited to do that till after the recital,” Cyra said with a small laugh as she stepped from her office. “Guess Sidon was a little rough with you. I know that limp isn’t from dancing.”
Link flushed heavily, pulling Sidon’s jacket tighter around his shoulders. He really was that obvious with his limp.
“You said to Sidon that you wanted to see me?” Link asked, wanting to immediately get off the subject before she started to ask how it was. It was embarrassing enough she knew that they had done something. It’d be no doubt that Zelda and Linkle would know what he did with Sidon when he went home.
“Right,” she replied, slipping into her office for a moment and pulling out an envelope. “This was given to me last night.”
“By who?” Link asked curiously, taking the outstretched envelope. It was addressed to him. Seeing this a sinking feeling started to come to his stomach. He didn’t even have to open it to know exactly what this was.
“One of the agents that came last night. They liked what they saw and they want you to come on board with them for a dancing troop,” Cyra said excitedly, though there was a sad smile on her face as she delivered the news. She would hate to see Link go. Not only was he one of her best dancers but he was a very sweet guy.
“I…wow,” Link responded. “I don’t know what to say.”
“I’m just so happy for you,” she said, pulling him into a warm hug. “This is such a huge opportunity for you.”
“But…wait,” Link said, pushing back from the hug and tried to hand her the envelope back. “I can’t do that.”
“Can’t? Why?”
“Linkle. I can’t just leave her behind like that. We dance together. And it wasn’t that long ago that Sidon and I found each other.”
Cyra was quiet a moment and let out a sigh. “I know how much you love your sister but even I have to admit that  the chemistry you had with Sidon was much better than anything you’ve had when you’ve danced with your sister. And besides, who says Sidon can’t travel with you.”
Link frowned at that, looking away. He couldn’t ask Sidon to leave his life behind to travel on the road constantly with him. Plush Linkle was going to have a baby.
Cyra rest a hand on his shoulder. “I know that sounds harsh but you should take this chance. It would benefit your dancing career and give you that dream of being one of the best known dancers in the country. Maybe even one day the world.”
Link flinched and looked away. That was a dream for him and his sister. They were to be the best dancing twins in the world.
But they wouldn’t be, not if he took this chance.
But it was also the once in a life time opportunity. If it wasn’t for Sidon he wouldn’t have been able to get this chance.
Then there was Sidon to think about. They had just found each other and he was sure this agent would require him to be away at months at a time.
“I don’t know,” Link finally said with a sigh, looking to the envelope in his hand, it feeling like a heavy weight despite being only a few pieces of paper.
Cyra rubbed his arm. “Well…you don’t need to answer right now. You have a little time to think. They do want an answer by the end of the month.
Link relaxed a little at that. It gave him plenty of time to talk to Sidon about this and time to think it over.
He really had no idea what to do.
*
Link felt exhausted as he came home in the afternoon. He had spent the day just taking time to think but even still he had no idea what it was that he wanted to do. He made sure however to keep this thinking at a rational level. He didn’t want to pass out again.
How did he break this news but even then he had to tell them that he hadn’t made up his mind. He knew that there would be people upset with him for even considering this.
Maybe it was best to wait until he knew better what he wanted to do.
With a heavy sigh he stepped into the house, feeling the change in energy instantly as he stepped in. He heard happy chatter and talking coming from the living room.
He was happy to hear it.
“Link! Quick, come look at this,” Linkle said as Link stepped into the living room. The smile on her face was something he had missed. She hadn’t smiled that much at all and seeing this brought warmth to Link. He wanted to make sure that he always kept that smile on her face.
“What is it?” he asked as he stepped into the room, greeting Zelda as well as Urbosa whom were also in the room on the opposite couch Linkle sat on.
“Here’s the first picture of your niece or nephew,” Linkle said, happily handing him a small black photograph.
“Where is the baby?” he asked as he scanned the sonogram with his eyes. He couldn’t tell where it even was.
“Right there silly,” she said as she pointed to a small bean shaped speck. “The baby isn’t going to be that big yet.”
Link squinted a little to get a better view of the little speck and smiled. Sure he had known Linkle was pregnant but seeing this made it all the more real for him.
“The baby is beautiful,” Link said, wrapping his arms around his sister and hugging her tightly. “I’m so glad that you are feeling better.”
Linkle squeezed him to her side and beamed up at her brother. “Well I had to go to the doctor to make sure that everything was going alright. Just seeing this little thing has made all the difference right about now.”
Link raised a brow at her. As happy was he was he did wonder what changed in the past night or so to have her change her mind.
“Being alone last night had me thinking a lot. Yes it hurts that the father of my child doesn’t want anything to do with me. Yes it hurts that my dancing career is over,” she began, her voice traveling off until she forced herself to focus again. “But this little baby will love me no matter what. And maybe I can eventually dance again.”
Hearing about her dance career Link paled, his hand unconsciously touching his pocket where he had put the envelope. If he took this opportunity Linkle may never get a chance to get back into dancing like she wanted.
To his surprise the envelope was missing. Maybe in a way it was as if fate was telling him he should not take the agent’s offer.
“I’m so glad that you were able to talk yourself  through this,” Zelda said as she rose from her seat, moving to Linkle’s side and hugging her and Link together. Link relaxed in their arms. He was so happy that life was starting to fall into place for the rest of his family.
He could finally relax.
*
Sidon stepped to the door of Link’s home, a large smile on his face as he approached. He had been able to get off work early and he had been hoping to spend the day with Link.
Maybe a date would be nice or they could spend some time at home with Link’s family. He just hoped that it didn’t over stress his lover.
An envelope sat on the doorstep, one addressed to Link. The redhead plucked the paper from the ground but the envelope decide to spill its contents.
He quickly caught them, letting out a small curse as he tried to put them back in the envelope. Link must have opened it already and dropped it.
His eyes quickly flicked over the papers, pausing after reading one line.
Brows furrowing Sidon dove further into the letter. It was someone thanking him for accepting joining a traveling dance troop.
“What…?” Sidon mumbled. How could Link accept this? Further reading showed that he would be gone for several months at a time. Why would Link take this offer without even as such as mentioning it to him?
In disbelief he looked up at the door, shaking his head as he turned to go back to his car as anger swelled up in his very being.
He couldn’t stand to look at him right now. He could not believe his match of all people would do such a thing.
“Understand this: God’s kingdom came within your reach and yet you have rejected God’s invitation!”
A line from Today’s reading of the Scriptures that points to a choice we have to make, of receiving or rejecting God’s eternal Love
(to be, or not to be)
Today’s reading from the New Testament is the 10th chapter of the book of Luke:
After this, the Lord Jesus formed thirty-five teams among the other disciples. Each team was two disciples, seventy in all, and he commissioned them to go ahead of him into every town he was about to visit. He released them with these instructions:
“The harvest is huge. But there are not enough harvesters to bring it in. As you go, plead with the Owner of the Harvest to send out many more workers into his harvest fields. Now, off you go! I am sending you out even though you feel as vulnerable as lambs going into a pack of wolves. You won’t need to take anything with you—trust in God alone. And don’t get distracted from my purpose by anyone you might meet along the way.
“Once you enter a house, speak to the people there and say, ‘God’s blessing of peace be upon this house!’ If a lover of peace resides there, your peace will rest upon that household. But if you are rejected, your blessing of peace will come back upon you. Don’t shift from one house to another, but stay in one home during your time in that city. Eat and drink whatever they serve you. Receive their hospitality, for you are my harvester, and you deserve to be cared for.
“When you enter into a new town, and you have been welcomed by its people, follow these rules: Eat what is served you. Heal the sick, and tell them all, ‘God’s kingdom has arrived and is now within your reach!’ But when you enter a city and they do not receive you, say to them publicly, ‘We wipe from our feet the very dust of your streets as a testimony before you! Understand this: God’s kingdom came within your reach and yet you have rejected God’s invitation!’ ”
Jesus continued, “Let me say it clearly: on the day of judgment the wicked people of Sodom will have a lesser degree of judgment than the city that rejects you, for Sodom did not have the opportunity that was given to them.”
“How disastrous it will be for the city of Korazin! How horrible for the city of Bethsaida! For if the powerful miracles that I performed in Korazin and Bethsaida had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have humbled themselves, repented, and turned from their sins. Tyre and Sidon will face a lesser degree of judgment than you will on the day of judgment. And Capernaum! Do you really think you’ll be highly exalted because of the great things I have done there? No! You’ll be brought down to the depths of hell because of your rejection of me!”
Jesus concluded his instructions to the seventy with these words: “Remember this: Whoever listens to your message is actually listening to me. And anyone who rejects you is rejecting me, and not only me but the one who sent me.”
When the seventy missionaries returned to Jesus, they were ecstatic with joy, telling him, “Lord, even the demons obeyed us when we commanded them in your name!”
Jesus replied, “While you were ministering, I watched Satan topple until he fell suddenly from heaven like lightning to the ground. Now you understand that I have imparted to you my authority to trample over his kingdom. You will trample upon every demon before you and overcome every power Satan possesses. Absolutely nothing will harm you as you walk in this authority. However, your real source of joy isn’t merely that these spirits submit to your authority, but that your names are written in the journals of heaven and that you belong to God’s kingdom. This is the true source of your authority.”
Then Jesus, overflowing with the Holy Spirit’s joy, exclaimed, “Father, thank you, for you are Lord Supreme over heaven and earth! You have hidden the great revelation of this authority from those who are proud, those wise in their own eyes, and you have shared it with these who humbled themselves. Yes, Father. This is what pleases your heart: to give these things to those who are like trusting children.
“Father, you have entrusted me with all that you have. No one fully knows the Son except the Father. And no one fully knows the Father except the Son. But the Son is able to reveal the Father to anyone he chooses.”
When Jesus was alone with the Twelve, he said to them, “You are privileged to see and hear all these things. Many kings and prophets of old longed to see these days of miracles that you’ve been favored to see. They would have given everything to hear the revelation you’ve been favored to hear. Yet they didn’t get to see a glimpse or hear even a whisper.”
Just then a religious scholar stood before Jesus in order to test his doctrines. He posed this question: “Teacher, what requirement must I fulfill if I want to live forever in heaven?”
Jesus replied, “What do you read in the Law? How do you understand it?”
The religious scholar answered, “It states, ‘You must love the Lord God with all your heart, all your passion, all your energy, and your every thought. And you must love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”
Jesus said, “That is correct. Now go and do exactly that and you will live.”
Wanting to justify himself, he questioned Jesus further, saying, “What do you mean by ‘my neighbor’?”
Jesus replied, “There was once a Jewish man traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho when bandits robbed him along the way. They beat him severely, stripped him naked, and left him half dead.
“Soon, a Jewish priest walking down the same road came upon the wounded man. Seeing him from a distance, the priest crossed to the other side of the road and walked right past him, not turning to help him one bit.
“Later, a religious man, a Levite, came walking down the same road and likewise crossed to the other side to pass by the wounded man without stopping to help him.
“Finally, another man, a Samaritan, came upon the bleeding man and was moved with tender compassion for him. He stooped down and gave him first aid, pouring olive oil on his wounds, disinfecting them with wine, and bandaging them to stop the bleeding. Lifting him up, he placed him on his own donkey and brought him to an inn. Then he took him from his donkey and carried him to a room for the night. The next morning he took his own money from his wallet and gave it to the innkeeper with these words: ‘Take care of him until I come back from my journey. If it costs more than this, I will repay you when I return.’ So, now, tell me, which one of the three men who saw the wounded man proved to be the true neighbor?”
The religious scholar responded, “The one who demonstrated kindness and mercy.”
Jesus said, “Go and do the same as he.”
As Jesus and the disciples continued on their journey, they came to a village where a woman welcomed Jesus into her home. Her name was Martha and she had a sister named Mary. Mary sat down attentively before the Master, absorbing every revelation he shared. But Martha became exasperated with finishing the numerous household chores in preparation for her guests, so she interrupted Jesus and said, “Lord, don’t you think it’s unfair that my sister left me to do all the work by myself? You should tell her to get up and help me.”
The Lord answered her, “Martha, my beloved Martha. Why are you upset and troubled, pulled away by all these many distractions? Mary has discovered the one thing most important by choosing to sit at my feet. She is undistracted, and I won’t take this privilege from her.”
The Book of Luke, Chapter 10 (The Passion Translation)
Today’s paired chapter of the Testaments is the 18th chapter of the book of Job that turns to Bildad:
Bildad’s Second Attack
[Plunged from Light into Darkness]
Bildad from Shuhah chimed in:
“How monotonous these word games are getting!
Get serious! We need to get down to business.
Why do you treat your friends like slow-witted animals?
You look down on us as if we don’t know anything.
Why are you working yourself up like this?
Do you want the world redesigned to suit you?
Should reality be suspended to accommodate you?
“Here’s the rule: The light of the wicked is put out.
Their flame dies down and is extinguished.
Their house goes dark—
every lamp in the place goes out.
Their strong strides weaken, falter;
they stumble into their own traps.
They get all tangled up
in their own red tape,
Their feet are grabbed and caught,
their necks in a noose.
They trip on ropes they’ve hidden,
and fall into pits they’ve dug themselves.
Terrors come at them from all sides.
They run dazed and confused.
The hungry grave is ready
to gobble them up for supper,
To lay them out for a gourmet meal,
a treat for ravenous Death.
They are snatched from their home sweet home
and marched straight to the death house.
Their lives go up in smoke;
acid rain soaks their ruins.
Their roots rot
and their branches wither.
They’ll never again be remembered—
nameless in unmarked graves.
They are plunged from light into darkness,
banished from the world.
And they leave empty-handed—not one single child—
nothing to show for their life on this earth.
Westerners are aghast at their fate,
easterners are horrified:
‘Oh no! So this is what happens to perverse people.
This is how the God-ignorant end up!’”
The Book of Job, Chapter 18 (The Message)
my personal reading of the Scriptures for Sunday, April 25 of 2021 with a paired chapter from each Testament of the Bible along with Today’s Proverbs and Psalms
from a set of emails by Glenn Jackson:
April 25th
The Father communicates with His children through His Spirit [Who is the Spirit of wisdom and revelation], and He is only able to reveal His Heart to them in their inner man [spirit] - through "revelation".
...."The spirit of man is the lamp of the LORD, searching all the innermost parts of his being".... Proverbs 20:27 NASB
...."[For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him, by having the eyes of your heart [spirit] flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints [His set-apart ones]".... Ephesians 1:17-18 The Amplified Translation
Whoever [whatever] one "trusts" in [in the depths of their heart] is who [what] they truly love.
...."Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths".... Proverbs 3:5-6 The Amplified Translation
When one is truly trusting God with ALL of their heart EVERYTHING they are trusting Him for will ALWAYS work out perfectly - and to His greatest Glory [regardless of what it may "look" like or "feel" like for them in the process].
Today’s message from the Institute for Creation Research
April 25, 2021
God Is Omnipotent
“Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee.” (Jeremiah 32:17)
The Genesis record of creation generates more hostility among men than any other message. Even secular atheists claim to respect the humanitarian teachings of Jesus, but they bristle irrationally when the Lord Jesus is identified as the Creator. Perhaps this is because the evidence for God’s omnipotence is displayed so openly and vividly by the “greatness of his might” (Isaiah 40:26).
The God who can speak the billions of galaxies into existence with the “breath of his mouth” (Psalm 33:6) is a God who can cast ungodly men into eternal hell for their defiance and rebellion against “the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ” (Jude 1:4). Conversely, the God who “stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing” (Job 26:7) is able to “save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him” (Hebrews 7:25).
No wonder the psalmist expresses the praise that all men should declare: “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works. And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness” (Psalm 145:3-6).
When the Lord Jesus was formally invested at the great assembly around the throne, the entire throng burst into the song “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Revelation 4:11). Each of us would do well to carry that song in our hearts every day. HMM III
Do You Know Me?
Oh man. I’m hooked (HAHAHA...sorry). I wrote some Sidon x Link. Because I am weak for that stupid sweet sharkboy. This one is for @cinensis, who is aboard this ship with me and as thanks for his awesome support. ENJOY.
All fluff - cut for length, not for content.
Tumblr media
Link wakes up sweating and panting, the silken seaplant sheets a tangle around him. It’s hard to tell if he has made any sort of noise in his sleep, but his throat feels rough, like he’s been inhaling small pieces of rock. The private bedchamber Prince Sidon gave him is in one of the towers overlooking the square below, where he can see the profile of Mipha’s statue from the balcony, past the gossamer curtains.
"Once this whole thing is over maybe things can go back to how they used to be when we were young."
That’s what she had said, in the memory he had had, and perhaps that should have given him some comfort, but…he had seen her again in his dream, and her image shattered into a thousand fragments. There was chaos and screaming, pain and darkness, and then...he had awoken before there was anything more.
Sleep is the worst time for Link. Sleep, when he can’t tell where pieces of memories end and the tricks of a broken mind take over.
Link rises and puts on his simple tunic - leaving the Zora Armor neatly on the chest where he had placed it after trying it on (even the perfect fit had frustrated him, though he did not show it) - and wanders out, down the stairs to the Domain sprawling below. He knows that on the morrow, he will be called to fight the monster plaguing them, once again take on the mantle of the Champion of Hyrule, and…
He regards the winding path he took to get here. No one would stop him. It is so tempting to just go.
Could they blame him? They claim to know him, but he doesn’t even know himself.
He wanders, his feet taking him down stairs, past the sentries, to the market square. Everything has been boxed up and put away for the night, all the Zora having returned to their families. Link would like to imagine that they are sleeping better than he did, but then...probably not. After all, they are afraid of the Divine Beast, the doom it promises with each sound bellowing beyond the outskirts of the kingdom.
Finally, he simply sits, his feet dangling over the edge of the rotunda, the edge of the banister around its circumference just tall enough that he can rest his arms there, set his head on top of them. There aren’t words that can describe how he feels now -- even if he could speak them aloud. He’s tired but doesn’t want to sleep. He should be afraid of what daybreak holds, but right now, he feels...nothing. It’s as if there is a bottomless pit in the center of his chest. There is something like sadness, but it is heavy and dull. Numb.
There are words that others keep using: hero. Amazing. Warrior. Is that truly him, underneath all of the weapons and armor? How much can someone change in a hundred years?
“Link?”
He looks up, but even if he hadn’t, he would have known it was Prince Sidon; he would have recognized that gentle, warm tone. Even without all the royal garb, he still carries a regal air that sets him apart from any other Zora that Link has met to this point. Gone are the pieces of armor, the strap across his chest, the aristocratic kerchief, his wristlets.
“What are you doing out here? I thought you would be asleep. You seemed like you needed rest. Is the bedchamber not to your liking?”
Link shakes his head. ‘Dreams,’ he signs with his fingers. ‘Couldn’t sleep.’
Sidon nods and sits next to him. It’s strange but only when he is actually at his side, letting his own legs hang into the space beneath them, that Link realizes that despite how long his arms are, the stretch of his torso, his bottom half is actually rather short. Next to one another, they don’t look too different, from a distance. At least, from the waist down.
“I don’t tend to sleep through the night myself,” the prince confides, quietly gazing out to the world beyond them. “I usually awaken and walk near my sister’s statue for a time, and then return to bed. The sight of her calms me.”
Link nods once but only stares downward.
“Tonight, I saw you, and I followed. I hope I am not disturbing you. I can leave, if you wish.”
‘No. It’s fine.’
He can feel his eyes on him. How someone can have eyes so intense and yet so deeply kind makes no sense to him. All the Zora seem very alive, emotional, but with the prince, it is...different. “You seem troubled. Do you want to talk about it?”
‘I don’t know what to say.’ It is both a cheap block but also a deeply honest statement. He doesn’t know. That’s mostly the problem.
“I’m sure the feeling will pass,” Sidon says, one of his large hands touching his shoulder, rubbing at the back of his neck. He would have thought that his skin would be rough, but there is a soft, leathery quality to it. Even in the short time he has been here, Link has become used to how comfortable he is in being physically expressive, although now it brings forth...something he was not expecting.
Guilt.
“Are you worried about the battle tomorrow? I’m sure a hero such as you will have no problem conquering a foe, even one like Vah Ruta. And I’ll be at your side!”
Link leans forward, pressing his forehead so hard against the stone beam in front of him that it hurts. He wants to run. He wants Sidon to move his hand away from him, but he can’t bring himself to rebuff his contact.
“You’ve already done so many fine deeds! This will seem like nothing to someone as fantastic and wonderful a warrior as you! I have nothing but faith in you, Link!”
It’s his sincerity that finally breaks a piece of something loose in Link’s heart. He turns so quickly that Sidon jumps a bit, startled. ‘And what if you’re wrong?’ Link signs with shaking fingers. ‘What if I don’t succeed? What if I die? What if you die? What if I’m not this hero that you think I am?’
“But, you are…” Sidon’s voice is almost sad, and that’s worse, so much worse, and Link slaps the ground between them before continuing.
‘You don’t know me! You only just met me! What if everyone is trusting in me to succeed and I --’
He’s started to cry and didn’t even entirely realize, tears running hot and thick down his face. He only stops his words because Sidon has gently taken his hands and pulled him away from the edge of the platform. He pulls back for a moment, but then it’s as if the strength has seeped out of him, and he lets himself be guided to rest against his smooth white chest, the Zora’s breaths louder in his ears than his own, because the air is moving in and out of the gills at his sides. Sidon’s arms around him are as warm and welcoming as he has always been, and Link feels small enough to hide away from the world, protected in his embrace. The Zora’s fingers trace through his hair, and it’s the most calming sensation, like none of this - any of it - matters, except bringing him some small peace.
“I know that my words may seem empty,” he hears Sidon say as he presses his cheek against Link’s head. “Rays of sunlight on a man who thinks he is dying may not always bring comfort. But we know you, Link. My people, my sister, my father have all known you. I believe in them as much as I believe in you.”
Link sniffs as Sidon takes his hand, and it looks so small against his huge palm, but he raises it to his lips and kisses it softly.
“You may not recall the deeds you have done, but your kind acts are stronger than the memories of them that have failed you. So. Please…”
Even despite his sharp nails, Link doesn’t flinch when Sidon smooths away the tracks of tears on his cheeks with his fingers. Link presses closer, wrapping his arms around him, comfortable. Sated.
“Please, trust me as I trust you.”
Link nods as sleep finally starts to take him once more, and like Sidon, it is eager and good and gentle. He may not feel like a champion, but at least for this night, he is whole.
i woke up thinking more about my weird zelda/httyd au thing
This au thing is what I mean
Gonna put some of this under the cut b/c this is rambling between me and a friend and maybe mild spoilers? also, @shadyspeaks for the rambles and stuff.
Rebbykins: I'm not sure if my au would work for the ship b/c if Sidon is like toothless it would be weird Rebbykins: "Hylian are scared to go into the sea because of the scary Zora. Link is training to join the ranks of Zora hunters. Then he finds an injured Zora trapped in an inshore pond with a fucked up fin or idk maybe missing an arm." Rebbykins: But maybe it's not just Zora, maybe it's the other non-humanoid races Rebbykins: And through befriending Sidon, he learns the other races aren't bad either Rebbykins: And and Shadyspeaks: Ohhhh shit Shadyspeaks: That's good shit Rebbykins: Link grew up on the streets for a while before being formally taken in by the leader if the town (aka the king) because he saw "potential for this boy to do great things". Well if by "great things" he meant fail miserably as a Knight, he was right. Link has been training along side Zelda, the chief's daughter, (and insert OoT fairy kids b/c y naught.) and shows no ability to even fight a Rito. Rebbykins: What kind of injury would Sidon have tho? A missing arm, leg? Rebbykins: Something that would make it impossible for him to swim again Shadyspeaks: Hm Shadyspeaks: Perhaps something that would make it very difficult to do so effectively - like a missing eye? Rebbykins: But that wouldn't trap him anywhere Shadyspeaks: You underestimate the power of depth perception Rebbykins: Maybe missing eye and mega broken arm AND leg on the same side *** Shadyspeaks nods *** Rebbykins: So he can't swim back through the strong currents that have land locked him Shadyspeaks: "Come ON dude, I'm trying to help you! Stop trying to bite my fucking leg off!" Rebbykins: ....now, is he human intelligence or dragon is the question. Can he flipping talk Rebbykins: LOL Shadyspeaks: (cut to Sidon gnawing on Link's leg) Rebbykins: Kekeke Rebbykins: Not really trying to eat him b/c "ew this isn't fish" Shadyspeaks: Yeah Rebbykins: zora use their mouths to know their environment Shadyspeaks: Bwahahahahahaha Rebbykins: ...I think sharks actually do something like that Shadyspeaks: They do, yeah Rebbykins: Good Rebbykins: ...Link saying that and Sidon, who has not said a word in the few days Link has helped him looks up and speaks "sorry, I tend to use my mouth on new things" And links soul leaves him for like five minutes Shadyspeaks: I'm legit coughing and wheezing thanks Rebbykins: :'D Shadyspeaks: Got tears in my eyes, heart's going ninety to nothing because I was trying to laugh without air Rebbykins: "you can talk?!" "Yeah. What did you think, we're monsters?" "...yes. you destroy our ships." "You guys are hoarding fish." And he sticks out his tounge Shadyspeaks: But hold on a second Shadyspeaks: Additional issue Rebbykins: O? Shadyspeaks: Mute Link Rebbykins: OH RIHHT Rebbykins: fuck Shadyspeaks: I only ever play him mute these days, or selectively Rebbykins: I think I need to do more research on selective mutism Rebbykins: But but also Shadyspeaks: .......... Selective. Definitely selective. Link's been talking to Sidon because he thinks the Zora is just a beast, and once he speaks - whoops, he can't talk anymore Rebbykins: Fuck my next idea is kinda spoilers Rebbykins: LOL Shadyspeaks: He's ranted at the Zora for days on end about how everyone expects greatness out of him and he's trying but for fuck's sake he can't do everything they're trying to teach him or get him to do Shadyspeaks: And suddenly, nope. Nothing but grunts and squeaks. Rebbykins: And he just starts patching Sidon up in silence. Sidon tries to get Link to speak, even going as far too bring up things he had muttered himself. (Link does not like that he was listening!) "Hey, um, how's that Zelda girl you talked about?" Idk Rebbykins: ....do u know of any other Zora in the game Shadyspeaks: Mepha (I think) is his also red(or pink?) sister, father is basically a blue orca Rebbykins: Cool so not super spoiler Shadyspeaks: And I think she dies? Rebbykins: Sidon has told Link about his older sister with great detail (u know to fill the new silence), and then one day in the training ring they bring a newly caught Zora who is extremely close, if not on the nose to what Sidon's sister looks like. Shadyspeaks: <Shit how do I get her out of here?> Rebbykins: Yes Rebbykins: Either he does a big escape while everyone is watching Rebbykins: Or he does a sneak escape only to meet Zelda along the way Shadyspeaks: And more mute complications Rebbykins: LOL Rebbykins: I'd think Zelda can read Link pretty well Rebbykins: Mipha however Shadyspeaks: Oh gods Rebbykins: Snap, snap teeth, grrr, trying to bite everyone. Link just sticks his arm in her mouth Rebbykins: MAYBE Rebbykins: Maybe Zora have poor eyesight on land too Shadyspeaks: Yeah! Because fish eyes aren't designed to see out of water Shadyspeaks: Even amphibians aren't particularly good at seeing out of it Rebbykins: Zelda flinched as the Zora sank its teeth into Link. Link however stood and took the bite. The wild look in the Zora's eyes calmed and it let go of Link's arm, looking at the limb with a slight head tilt. "Ooh my, did I do that? I'm very sorry." Link shrugged and turned away, ignoring the blood dripping down his forearm. He waved a little to signal that they should move. "Link!" Zelda grabbed the upper part of his injured arm tightly. "That Zora just spoke!"
That’s all I’ve got atm~ Maybe I’ll do dabbles for this, idk.
Shadows of the Triforce: Chapter 1
The morning sun was just starting to grace the world with its presence, casting the world in a dark shadow while its rays stretched over the distant mountain range with the warmth and promise of a new day. A dark night faded behind them as the light stretched slowly across the sky, turning the deep blues and purples to bright pinks and yellows before settling to the light blue of day.
Link brought the bottle to his lips as he watched the land of Hyrule awaken below. He wasn’t the late sleeper he once was. Having a kid would force one into being a morning person, whether he liked it or not. But it wasn’t his young son that caused him to be awake at such an early hour. In truth, he had come to enjoy the early morning hours, just before the rest of the world woke to seize the day. The world was still and quiet, offering him a moment to reflect, especially on this day, every year.
They didn’t normally spend such an early hour together, and he wasn’t one to start drinking so early. In fact, he was significantly less of a drink than he had been five years ago. But on this day, they always shared a beer together, and since they had both been up the majority of the night, it seemed well enough to end their long day with their yearly tradition.
He sat on the trunk of his father’s car as he always did. To his left, Dorian was leaning against the side of the car. He examined the bottle in his hand for a moment and his face twisted into disapproval.
“What is this, again?” he asked.
Link shrugged. “Look. It was last minute, alright?”
“Cheap beer,” he muttered.
Link smiled. “Beggars can’t be choosers.”
It was a tradition that evolved over the years accidentally. One of them brought the beer, and they met to drink mostly in silence as they reflected on the years. While most chose to visit the grave of the deceased, they preferred the quiet company of each other on this one day a year. From time to time, they chatted casually, but after an hour of their ritual, they parted ways, and their lives went on quietly.
“Look on the bright side,” Dorian started. “You have another… seventeen years before the next twenty-first birthday.”
Link groaned. “He’s not getting a party like that,” Link said. “I’ll take him to a bar and buy him one drink.”
“That’s boring. Didn’t Revali take you out for your twenty-first?”
“No one was around when I turned twenty-one.” He paused to drink. “They didn’t come back to the city until a month later. You know, after you lied and told me my father died.”
Dorian frowned and pulled his gaze away. “That’s unfair.”
“I guess you owe me a twenty-first birthday.”
Dorian snorted. “I’m sure Riju will be happy to plan it for you.”
“Where have you been, anyway?” He glanced at Dorian. “Last night was the first time I saw Koko and Cottla in forever.”
Dorian avoided his gaze. “Working.”
“Aren’t you retired?”
“Sheikah don’t get to retire.”
Link rolled his eyes. He took a moment to drink. “So, Impa’s got you on some secret mission?”
“Hardly.”
He narrowed his gaze on Dorian. “You’re on a secret mission behind Impa’s back and you didn’t invite me?”
Dorian glanced at him briefly. “You’re retired.”
Link smiled. “Heroes don’t get to retire.”
“Touche.” Dorian drank, saying nothing more.
“Fine,” Link said with a shrug. “Keep your Sheikah secrets.” He slid off the car and stretched. “I guess I gotta get back before the kid wakes up.”
“Aryll, or Rusl?” Dorian asked with a smirk.
Link frowned. “She has an apartment. Why is she passed out drunk on my couch?”
Dorian turned his gaze to the horizon. “Your father has done that to me on numerous occasions.”
“Hm.” Link finished his beer, then tossed the bottle lightly behind him into the backseat. It bounced off the seat and rolled against the floor. He stepped around and slid into the driver’s seat, starting the ignition.
Dorian stood, stepping away from the car, then turned to face Link. “Next time, I’m bringing the beer,” he said. “None of this cheap shit.”
“It all does the same thing,” Link pointed out.
Dorian smiled, and in a snap, he disappeared.
*****
“Mumma! I can’t weach!”
“Two seconds.”
“Mumma! Ceweal!
“Mipha, I’m dying.”
“Two seconds.”
“Bweakfast!”
“Where are the drugs?”
“I SAID TWO FUCKING SECONDS!”
Rusl stared at her for a moment, shocked by his mother’s sudden outburst, then turned his attention to Aryll. “Aunty Awy, ceweal!”
“Aunty Ary has a hangover,” Aryll said, putting a hand on her head. She lay back against the couch. “Don’t talk, okay?”
“‘Sup, losers?” Revali called as he came through the front door, Teba, Tulin, Daruk, Axel, and Kit on his heels. He took a moment to look around, taking in the sight. Aryll was hanging over the couch, shushing him angrily. Rusl was standing on the counter in a desperate attempt to reach a box of cereal. And Mipha was desperately reaching for something behind the fridge, which was pulled slightly away from the wall.
“What in the -” Revali started.
“For the love of - I’m too fat for this shit!”
“Stop letting Link plant his seed in you,” Kit said, stepping around Revali.
Mipha straightened and glared at them. “Why are you here?” she snarled. “Don’t you guys come over enough?”
Revali moved to the counter, picking Rusl up and planting him securely on the floor. “Clearly not,” he said. “You do not have this shit under control.”
“Can’t you people shut up?” Aryll barked at them from the couch.
“You don’t live here!” Mipha shouted back. “Go be hungover at your place!”
“But you always take care of me,” Aryll whined.
Kit plopped onto the couch beside her. “I got you,” he said. “What you need is -”
“Fuck off, Kit,” Aryll muttered.
“Children!” Revali snapped. “Watch your damn language.”
“Where’s Link?” Daruk asked.
Mipha whipped around to sneer at him. “What are you saying?” Mipha hissed. “I’m incapable of taking care of shit without him?”
Daruk and Teba leaned back, fear in their eyes. Daruk shook his head quickly. “No, no. I mean. I just. We had… plans.”
The door opened once more and Riju and Urbosa entered, Sidon trailing behind. He frowned at his sister. “What are you doing?”
“The stupid dog’s stupid ball is behind the stupid -”
Sidon moved to her side, pushing her away from the fridge and retrieving the ball for her.
“Why are you giving her a hard time?” Urbosa scolded Daruk.
“I’m not!”
“I just got here and I can already tell you pissed her off.”
“I didn’t do anything!”
“Ceweal!”
“Oh my Goddesses,” Revali muttered. He reached for the box and shoved it into Rusl’s arms. “Eat it and be quiet.”
Rusl grinned, then shoved his hand into the box. He grabbed a messy handful, then plopped it into his mouth. He waddled over to Tulin with a grin and offered him the box. Tulin, too, shoved a hand inside, then into his mouth with a pleased smile.
“Why are there so many people in my house?” Mipha muttered.
“We’re here to help,” Riju said. “Don’t ask me about those assholes.”
“Hey,” Teba said defensively. “You promised Tulin a playdate.”
“Playdate,” Revali said with a scoff. His gaze narrowed on Teba. “What happened to you, man?”
“I brought a kid, too,” Daruk said, pointing to his own son. “See? Please don’t hurt me.”
“What’s the matter, Revali?” Aryll sneered at him. “Don’t like being left out ‘cuz you’re not a sucker with a kid?”
Revali folded his arms over his chest and pouted. “Yeah. I didn’t know my friends were a bunch of fucking dads.”
Mipha sat at the table with a heavy sigh. “Link’s not here.”
“Well, where the hell is he?” Revali asked.
“He’s doing his stupid beer thing with Dorian,” Aryll muttered.
Revali frowned. “Oh. That’s today?”
“Every year,” Aryll said in an obvious tone. “For five freaking years.”
“Some people keep track of birthdays,” Kit muttered.
“What’s wrong with you?” Daruk asked, turning to Aryll.
She smiled. “It was my birthday.”
“Ah, to be twenty-one again,” Kit said.
To Mipha’s relief, the door opened once more, and her husband entered. His eyes moved over the crowded room and he frowned.
“Look who decided to join us,” Riju said cheerily.
Daruk frowned at him. “It’s like, ten in the morning, and you’re drinking.”
“Someone had me up all night,” Link sneered at Aryll.
She smiled. “But we had fun.”
“No. Go home.”
“Daddy!”
Link turned his gaze to his son. There was more cereal on the floor than in his mouth. His brow raised. “What the hell is going on here?”
Mipha stood abruptly. “I have it under control!” she barked at him.
Link stared at her blankly. Riju elbowed him in the side.
“Smile and nod, man. Smile and nod.”
Link smiled. “I love you.”
Mipha sneered at him. “I can’t wait until your stupid spawn gets out of my damn body.”
“Yes, I love our children, too,” Link said. “But maybe we can not refer to them as spawns.”
“How’s Dorian?” Aryll asked from the couch. When Rusl walked by, she snatched the box of cereal out of his hands and helped herself. “Did you guys have a nice time being bitches?”
“Wow,” Kit started, grabbing the box from her. “You’re mean when you’re hung over.”
Aryll’s lips pulled into a sneer, but she said nothing more.
“Ah, I should have known,” Riju said, slapping her palm to her head. “But it was the only day Aryll was free!”
“Yeah,” Aryll started. “My birthday was like, two months ago.”
“What could you have been so busy with?” Revali asked.
“School,” Aryll said with a pout.
“Good girl,” Urbosa said.
“Yeah, don’t do what your brother did,” Kit said.
“I did the responsible thing,” Link sneered.
“That’s right,” Urbosa said. “He took care of his baby sister.”
Aryll scoffed. “That’s giving him way too much credit. He was a fuck show.”
“Rude,” Link said.
“Aryll,” Urbosa warned.
“Both of you shut up,” Mipha muttered. “You’re not angsty fucking teenagers anymore, Goddesses!”
“Fuck!”
Every single one of them immediately turned their gazes to Rusl. His eyes moved over them, then he grinned. “Fuck!”
“Welp,” Revali started. “Have fun with that one.”
“Maybe you’ll do better with the second one,” Kit said.
“I dunno,” Riju said hesitantly. “That baby can hear everything even in the womb. I think she’s fucked.”
“Can we all stop fu…” Mipha sucked in a deep breath and closed her eyes. “Stop swearing? You’re going to make me go into early labor and give me a stroke.” Her eyes opened and she glared at them. “And if you think I can’t handle this, wait until you see Link try to do this alone.”
Aryll fell back against the couch. “He’s a wonderful father,” she muttered. “He learned from the best.”
“If that’s supposed to be an insult,” Link started.
“I never ate a vegetable in my life,” Aryll said, cutting him off.
“But did you die?”
Aryll smiled. Her eyes opened and she met her brother’s gaze. “I guess not,” she said.
Link reached into a cabinet, then tossed her a pill bottle.
Aryll saluted him, then eagerly swallowed two of the pills.
“Don’t you guys have something better to do?” Link asked, redirecting his attention to his friends.
“Better than this?” Kit grinned and patted Aryll’s head. “What could be better than this?”
“We had plans, remember?” Daruk said.
Link turned his attention to the three boys, now each with a hand in the box of cereal, and his face brightened. “Who wants to go play in horse shit?”
Tulin’s face creased into a deep frown, but both Rusl and Axel jumped excitedly at the idea. Daruk crossed his arms with a sigh.
“That’s your idea of an appropriate activity for children?”
“Man, what are you gonna do when you finally get some girls in here?” Aryll muttered. “Thank Hylia the next one is a girl.”
“She’ll be playing in horse shit, too,” Revali pointed out.
Aryll nodded. “And not eating vegetables.”
