Insomniac's Peter and Miles have such a sweet dynamic since they both have "outside cat" attachment habits, in the sense that their lifestyles as spider-men force them to be mostly stray, yet [they remain] bonded to certain places or people (still needing to eat, sleep, work/attend education, socialize, supply themselves with an amount of quality time to be with their loved ones).

what i cherish most about their dynamic in this adaptation/iteration is their mutually-receptive ability to demonstrate nearness.

i believe it is common knowledge that superhero lifestyles are frequently written as being full of criminal loneliness and undesirability. e.g., shouldering an excessive amount of responsibility for the incalculable lives of many people; all perceived to be worthy of life or redemption, sometimes "innocent," and/or rendered vulnerable to harm by the laws of the cordial, action-based narrative. Or, having to compartmentalize their heroic identity from their citizen existence so rigidly that they develop neurotic maladaptive tendencies. Being unable to commit to long-term, intimate relations, and usually characterizing exclusively noncommittal practices for themselves. In order to fulfill their responsibilities, they systematically neglect their own primal need for connection and/or closeness.

Thematically, Peter Parker's character is an archetype of a loser (albeit, a [now] culturally-outdated one that's enduring thru retcons & modernization), depicted as lacking certain qualities that would make him more socially acceptable. With being a great loser, comes great fail-loserisms. His core personality traits principally exemplify self-obsession (neurotic self-loathing &/or self-blaming), belief in indeterminable moral redemption, catastrophizing while also working to compensate for it, magnifying his own problems while trying to minimize everyone else's problems, crippling loneliness (experiencing the alienation which comes with the job), sabotaging the potential of an meaningful, intimate connection out of fear of threat, etc... (his loserguy traits disrupt his social interpersonal & intrapersonal developments.) He bears his fair share of grief, hardship, and possesses traits that redeem him beyond the pain which he experiences. He's well-knowledgeable and challenge-combative, but he still fails to meet the associated success/outcome metrics. (I'm digressing). His character is a solid fictional presentation of endured (often traumatic) hardship and the strength of a human life.

in Insomniac's video game universe, 1048- despite their age difference, Peter and Miles have each other to turn to when it comes to the ever-present stress of the job, and it's interesting to see how that, as well as their mentor/apprentice relationship, interacts with their ability to convey closeness/trust/familiarity with one another.

The way they're written to interact with each other is appropriately individualistic, taking into account the power imbalance. It's interesting to see how Miles feels at ease to be able to lean on Peter -- his care, mentorship, and older-friend offerings / guidance, whereas Peter obviously doesn't feel /obligated/ to lean on Miles (apart from the duty of spider-manning together, when it's needed). But he does reciprocate a certain degree of safe reliance and practices applying a standard of equal morality towards Miles, never wavering in his respect because of his authentic judgment of and exposure to Miles' character.

For Spider-Men, the power they possess is a self-proclaimed gift/curse that serves as the uniform for their character incentives and binds them together, but their interrelated-moral-duties enslave them in a way that is close to misery in perpetuity.

what's nice about 1048 Peter & Miles is that their proximity and trust allows them to share this particular kind of dual, unpleasant-and-rewarding experience, together. The relationship between them is special in that it provides a refreshing counter-narrative to the frequently observed story of hero-exclusive loneliness.

their close-neighboring existences benefit both of them; they can keep each other grounded. it's so distinctively sweet. i love the writers take on the connection, in the MSM games.

so, to reiterate, what I like about the Peter & Miles dynamic in this universe, is their not-too-overly-complicated nearness.

this specific adaptation of SM, which sets out to adopt both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, makes me think of how cats frequently are unaware that they are lonely creatures until they are in the company of another cat with whom they get along, which awakens the reality of happy companionship and reveals an animal's inner need for a friend.

-he....doesn't really know, honestly. there's his friends! but he's not sure they'll always be around...there's his photography! but he's worried he'll lose interest someday....i guess he wants to do something with his photography in the future. he just wants his friends to be okay, and he'll make sure it's done. he doesn't know what else he wants, he's scared to think about it much.

-oooooh boy. he uses his skills to blackmail people who attempt to bully his best friend, he only stops fights when either someone he cares about is involved or it seems unfair, and he often will verbally antagonize people who attempt to fight him (making sure nobody else could hear it), before dodging out of the way and framing it as them starting the ordeal.

-he loves a lot of them, but jackalopes have slowly won a part of his heart. his best friend loves bunnies, and since he wanted to get her to pay attention, he used jackalopes, but since she loved it too, he got a little extra love for it. otherwise? shapeshifters. the idea of being able to get rid of what you don't like about looks sounds good to him.

-photography, researching + explaining things, and listening to music. he wishes he could learn guitar, but is too scared to ask about it or do anything to get it.
