The story behind the pilot episode of Journey to the West "The Kingdom of the Black Chicken" If you were to ask which episode of "Journey to the West" was aired first, you would definitely say without hesitation that it was when the Monkey King first came out. In the 1986 version of Journey to the West, Tang Monk wore a Five Buddha crown and a brocade cassock.
