“凯亚哥哥…”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don’t remember why I drew this except for what I wrote about Secret Summer Paradise’s Act One, Quest 3: “Somehow, I’m so touched I almost want to cry… To the point where I feel sad after finishing the second act… I…”
(Dialogue)
Kaeya:
Nocturne:
Nocturne:
Kaeya, thinking:
Ambiguous Narrator(s):
.
(Rough translation)
Kaeya: What’s wrong?
Nocturne: Kae… Kaeya-gege…
Nocturne: Playing with gege and Klee… was fun…
Kaeya, thinking: This guy… He’s obviously got something on his mind but he’s keeping quiet about it. And what’s with the brooch…?
Ambiguous Narrator(s): What… did I do wrong to make me unable to reach… “this stage”…? Kaeya… gege…

They say the Moon casts its ethereal glow most brilliantly upon Mondstadt— glinting faintly off of the powdery white cliffs, the undulating banners of freedom, the welcoming little dandelions that dotted the main city’s entrance. Yet, every night, that same glow seemed to bore into you like icy daggers— like the unwavering, watchful pupils of an archon whose mere flick of a wrist could determine your fate just as easily as that of a snowflake— reminding you once more of your duties, your allegiance, and the indoctrinated hatred that must outweigh all else.
Perched atop the city’s vacant walls, nestled against the battlements, you couldn’t help but dwell upon the stark contrast between Mondstadt’s gentle lake breeze that always lingered to calm any breach in temperature— cooling day’s heat, warming night’s chill— and the harsh, brittle cold etched so deeply into your memory.
You took hold of one of the two bottles you’d purchased earlier from Angel’s Share with an uncharacteristic offhandedness, and proceeded to direct all of your frustration into uncorking it. The bottle eventually popped off with an angry FZZT, as anticipated of anemo-infused alcohol.
Layering a sparkling white wine over that of dandelion in one of two flutes, you watched in an almost trancelike state as a tantalizingly hazy concoction materialized beneath your hands. You lifted the glass by its stem, absentmindedly raising it to the moonlight in mock toast— all the while savoring the faint aroma, admiring the way a dreamlike incandescence shone through. Temporary happiness versus temporary suffering, was it not?
“Starting without me?”
The moment his familiar lighthearted voice graced your ears, a stifling pang of guilt struck your heart. It twisted and turned until it bloomed into tendrils of shadowy vines that threatened to smother your lungs, clenched around your windpipe… you abruptly took a daring swig of your liquor, paying no mind to neither the dangers behind its strength nor rules of etiquette— for more out of spite for yourself and your ridiculous dilemmas than his words. The drink simultaneously burned and numbed its way down your throat, singeing away those vines like frostbite, leaving behind a bitterly sweet aftertaste that reminded you vaguely of black licorice.
Before you could tilt back once more, a hand caught yours and gingerly drew it down until the glass you held was left standing with a subtle clink against the cold stone on which you sat. You allowed your listless, glazed eyes to focus upon the face in front of yours— the plastered little smile meant to convey an expression of clueless amusement, the one eye that betrayed every ounce of understanding and concern.
“So, the tavern’s atmosphere wasn’t to your liking?” Kaeya inquired jokingly, edging closer for a brief moment to wipe something— a speck of debris, a tear, or perhaps nothing at all— from your cheek. A myriad of thoughts seemed to cloud his sight as he searched for some sign, any semblance, of a smile to appear on your face. For what reason do you hold the weight of the skies and their stardust in your gaze?
Despite the daze you were in, you managed to let out a shaky laugh. Kaeya broke into one of his boyish grins and breathed a silent sigh of relief. Your heart warmed, you could hear your heart beat. And for what cause must we be alike beyond words?
Kaeya plopped down beside you against the battlements and shrugged off his cape. Ever since he and Diluc parted ways, he’d grown into an odd habit of leaving the upper section of any clothing he wore wide open, as if inviting the world to stab him in his chest.
“Don’t come running to me when you catch a cold again,” you remarked, averting your eyes.
He tilted his head in inquisition, the way a puppy does when wondering what it had done wrong; but, in Kaeya’s case, it only meant that he was plotting a slick comeback to whatever had just been said to him.
“Well,” he began, amused, “there’s always the option of teaching me how not to.”
“You really think you’re cute, sir,” you scoffed as you gave him a look of mock annoyance.
Eventually, though, you found yourself buttoning up his shirt, adjusting his layers to shut out the cold. Kaeya said nothing more. You could feel his gaze on you, could only focus on finishing what you’d started, silently wondering why he chose to be silent at the worst times. Almost as soon as you were done, you felt the tickle of fur being draped over your neck. Kaeya leaned closer to secure his cape to your shoulders, then sat back, as if registering those awkward acts. He now looked a lot like his younger self— eager, easily flustered, fumbling for something decently worded to say.
You gave him a playful nudge, telling him without words that there was no need to be tense. Very nearly were you too childishly wishing along the lines that he would retaliate in some way and give you a reason to be in his personal space again. His closeness, just his presence made you feel at ease… what would you not give for moments like these to last for eternity?
A cool, mellow breeze swept away your sheepish musings, materializing into perspective the perfectly imperfect realism of those fleeting moments. Two little specks, mere pawns, alone at the edge of threshold… yearning— even for a split second— to be oblivious to the cruelty of this world. To seek happy lies.
You pulled Kaeya’s cape closer around you. It smelled of woodsmoke and cologne, the fur still warm from his body heat. You watched as he helped himself to a drink— Death After Noon, nonetheless— exactly the way you did, as the wind ruffled his hair, that streak of silvery blue you longed to trace.
“You’re always so eager to drink with me, Captain” you observed, straining through the haze to keep the ache out of your voice. “Wouldn’t that be the slightest bit suspicious?”
Kaeya swirled the contents in his glass, as if taking into account the complexity you’d just invited into the picture. Instead, he answered, “The moment I decided to look for you, I was not Mondstadt’s cavalry captain. I’m just Kaeya.”
You could feel the dreaded fluttering of your heart, and instinctively pulled your knees to your chest. For a split second, the world didn’t seem so devoid of meaning.
“Kaeya.”
His name struck your mind as most beautiful in that moment.
He pivoted to you, startled at the sound of his name, with the most bewildered expression. Finding this simply adorable, you broke into a smile so contagious that Kaeya quickly turned away— a silly, genuine grin confounding his smug features.
How could you not love him?
If only circumstances allowed, the two of you could converse from nightfall to daybreak. From discussions of crime to conspiracies, peeves to preferences, and grievances to aspirations— the topics never seemed to run out. In some ways, Kaeya once told you in a drunken trance, you understood him better than Diluc ever did.
You recalled the night you revealed to Kaeya your true identity— a member of the Fatui, placed in Mondstadt, undocumented, to serve the Tsaritsa’s best interests. It had been a necessary move, one you had to make if you wanted to protect him from the schemes you had been tasked to lead him headfirst into. He’d only responded, “I know,” and proceeded with the conversation like nothing was out of the ordinary. Later, you found out that, in fact, he’d known from the very beginning— when he went out of his way to hide you from the “Darknight Hero.” Yet, merely minutes before that incident, it had been you who’d challenged Kaeya to a game meant to loosen his tongue for your organization’s benefit.
You’d placed a tray of brimming shot glasses in front of him, intentionally with such roughness that a few splatters wasted onto the tavern’s table.
“Rules,” you began firmly as you lowered yourself into the seat across from the then recently appointed Cavalry Captain. You motioned toward the shots on the table. “You ask me a question, I answer. I ask, you answer. Simple.”
You glanced up, looking straight into his one eye that had been glinting with carefully hidden notions you could only call mischief.
“But if either of us declines to answer,” you challenged, “take a shot.”
To this day, those rules still applied.
“Why did you trust me?” You now wondered aloud, in a drunken daze, staring off to someplace far over the horizon— your land of origin, but you’ve grown reluctant to call it “home.”
Your words were indicative of the time you chose to repay his deeds by coming clean to offer forewarning.
Kaeya took another sip from his glass, evidently raking the depths of his brain for a way to word his thoughts. “Because…”
He seemed to let out a quiet sigh— shaky with defeat, laced with a deep pain— and waited until you could gather your concentration to look him in the eye.
“Because trust was something I couldn’t have.”
Kaeya’s words resounded through fog settling over your consciousness, piercing your heart in ways that they shouldn’t have.
“Because I wanted you to have that second chance, to prove yourself to be more than just what you were made to be.”
His voice grew unsteadier with each breath he took, his shoulders shook with a myriad of emotion you couldn’t describe, and you ached for the utter emptiness you knew he felt.
“Because,” he finished, the defeated look in his eye tainting the way he still managed to smile through his pain, “if even someone as selfless and pure, and loving as you would one day turn on me, then I am willing.”
Without any sense of inhibition, you gathered Kaeya into an embrace. You felt his body tense, and his shoulders gradually stopped shaking. You could feel his heartbeat, dancing away, growing calmer.
“It’s been so long since someone held me like this,” Kaeya murmured languidly, settling against your shoulder.
You parted from his hold for a moment to tenderly caress his face, his features softening beneath your touch as he allowed himself to be immersed completely into your care. You paused to trace the silvery blue streak in his hair, to leave a reassuring kiss on his forehead, your lips feather-light against his skin.
“This won’t be the last time,” you whispered, gingerly wiping a newly shed tear from his cheek. “I would never forsake you. You have my word.”
Kaeya pulled you against him once more, holding you close, as if he were afraid you would disappear— and this time, you tensed with surprise. But eventually, you felt your breathing slow to match his, your face nestled against his shoulder. If happiness was destined to be temporary, then so be it.
The bottles of liquor were left, forgotten. Two flutes of Death After Noon abandoned alongside one another, half-full.
You could’ve sworn that the air tasted faintly of licorice.

现在我是教育学的候选人(在俄罗斯联邦)!✨ Costume & wig owner - @zava_cosplay #原神 #原神cos #凯亚 #凯亚cos #COS #凯亚 #kaeya #kaeyagenshinimpact #kaeyaalberich #kaeyacosplay #kaeyagenshin #kaeyasupremacy #kaeyaalberichcosplay #kaeyaragnvindir #kaeyacosplayer #kaeyalberich #genshinimpact #cosplayphotography #cosplaywip #cosplaybabe #cosplaytime #cosplayartist #cosplaymodeling #アニメ好き (at Moscow, Russia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqLZNAwoxRf/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

i know this new song is stylistically quite different from the metal-pop sound of the esc era and the last few releases, so i'm not surprised some fans don't know what to think of it or just downright don't like it. but personally i have been waiting for another rap release, and i was a little nervous kä would start to prioritize market appeal over having fun with his music and being authentically silly. so i'm quite glad!
i know i should save my thoughts for the full song but i'm already so obsessed with the little snippet, the beat is very catchy and käärijä's flow is so rhythmically satisfying~
