#51 ‘something scared me’ hug

“ you think i’m gonna get the shit scared out of me? oh, thomas. you really don’t know me at all, do you? “ halloween had always been her favorite time of year and now that thomas was working for her, she planned on dragging him along to all of the events that she could. “ you know what? i’ll go in first. “

the guy out front didn’t even give luna a chance to mentally prepare herself before ushering their group inside. don’t scream, you’ll look like such an idiot. you can do anything but scream. the words were consistently chanted in her mind because she knew that if thomas proved her wrong, she would hear about it every time that the two went to do something like this.

the first few minutes had gone by pretty smoothly with the jump scares being a bit too predictable. just when she finally thought that she might have had the situation under control, she cockily turned around to face thomas and threw her hands up into the air, deciding to show off and walk through the rest of the maze backwards. yeah, that was a spectacular idea ! “ see? i haven’t even been scared once. this is almost like a waste of money. i’m paying to get scared and so far i’m -- “

her sentence was cut off by a monster jumping out from behind her, causing her to let out a blood curdling scream. she must have jumped three feet into the air, automatically covering her face so she didn’t have to make eye contact with whatever that was. she flew into thomas’ arms, wrapping her own around him in a bone crushing hug like he was going to save her while she buried her face into his side.

FAMILY DINNERS weren’t typically this eventful in the patrelli family -- well, okay, that was a large understatement. it was obvious to even a stranger the tension that the twins had. their tension had been the main reason that luna had no longer even bothered to show up to holiday dinners. marisol couldn’t even remember the last time her sister showed up for a birthday dinner; the only time marisol and her parents heard of luna had been on the news or radio. even when luna came public with her new boyfriend, tristan, it had been several months before she even agreed to bring him home to meet the family.

the dinner had been only slightly pleasant until about halfway through when their father began his usual raving about marisol. she sat quietly with her head ducked down, just as she always did. she had always hated being pitted against her sister. luna could only handle so much before frustratingly excusing herself from the table. the parents quickly followed suit in attempt to calm their daughter down.

chewing the inside of her cheek, marisol’s dark brown irises shifted over to luna’s boyfriend sat across from her. the air had shifted to an uncomfortable silence. “ i’m sorry, tristan. “ the younger twin apologized, motioning at the muffled commotion coming from the other room. “ i wish i could say it’s not usually like this. you’d think everyone would get along when there’s company over. i’m honestly a little surprised she even brought you here to meet us. she tends to act like we don’t exist half of the time. “
