ok so i saw ur posts about murderdock and leme just say that any redemption arc with him needs a foggy he clearly is just a sad boi who has never been loved and all he needs is fog to legitimately sit him down and say "woah dude killing is bad" and he's just kinda confused like what not even a lil stab? imagine spider-gwen teaches him how to beat baddies w/o killing and he's just like i didn't know this was a thing?? Gwen and fog are his proud parents when he shows the most basic human decency

I do agree that Foggy would have to be a pretty big component of any Murderdock redemption arc, but imo these slightly-bruised avocados need lots of marriage counseling before they’d be any good for each other. Given that they still call one another “Matt” and “Foggy”, and some dialogue that alludes to previous collusion between them (tsk tsk, no fraternizing with opposing counsel Mr. District Attorney!) they are still somewhat close in the Gwenverse but they tend to feed one another’s bad sides. Without a Matt that pushes him towards #justice and getting paid in pie, Foggy is a bit too pragmatic — he cares more about keeping his job/reputation than he does about who might get hurt in the process. And without a Foggy who has the confidence and emotional influence to rein him in, Murderdock has a double-dose of regular Matt’s manipulative nature and none of his desire to protect.

That said, my headcanon about “Matt gets his ass kicked intellectually by Foggy in college and is consumed with lust about it” still stands in this universe, and I think if the Hand tried to hurt Foggy, Murderdock would go completely berserk. Which might jumpstart him into the realization that he has some Feelings he’s been ignoring.

The thing is, I feel like Murderdock is way more volatile than most other Matts. I mean he’s still Matt so you’re right that he’s a sad boi who needs lots of TLC, but he’s also a Hand assassin and the Kingpin, so a redemption arc likely isn’t going to be easy sailing — he IS the bad guy, after all. But since the thing that turned him down the path to villainy wasn’t under his control, I really do want him to get a redemption arc — and I want Gwen and Foggy to believe he’s worth it.

Currently I have four basic Murderdock “redemption” scenarios:

1. Gwen leans hard into Murderdock’s attempts to mentor/corrupt her to evil and uses their time together to try and do a little manipulating of her own — turn him to the Light Side, as it were. Possibly she also gets the idea to bring Foggy into it from her trips to the OG comicsverse with 616!Spider-Woman.

2. Post-SG timeline, when the Hand is trying to assassinate him, Murderdock goes to Foggy and accidentally gets him almost killed too, realizes he has Feelings, and they possibly convince Gwen to put them in witness protection in another universe (although this would probably require heavy SHIELD supervision/jail time).

3. A Foggy from another universe falls into the Gwenverse and completely bowls Murderdock over with his unabashed love for Matt Murdock. Murderdock catches feelings and then angsts about alt!Foggy wanting to get home to his own Matt, but decides to defy the Hand in order to help him.

4. The Spider-Verse 2 plot, where Murderdock finds out about Gwen’s watch, steals it, and decides maybe that’s how he’ll escape the Hand’s control — which backfires spectacularly when they send an army of ninjas after him to conquer the Milesverse and kidnap Foggy for leverage. He also probably meets the Milesverse’s Matt and Foggy, who are Well-Adjusted Girlfriends, and starts secretly pining for a relationship like that of his own.

At the moment I’m leaning strongly towards a combination of 1 and 4, because it has some great possibilities for single-Spider-Person-brain-cell shenanigans, where Gwen’s bad experiences with Murderdock make her and Miles super suspicious of the two overly nice lawyers trying very hard to become Miles’s weird aunts (pre-DD reveal and post-N&M meet Miles-as-Spider-Man) — but upon realizing with some help from Peter B that Gwen’s Matt is the odd one out, they hatch a hare-brained scheme to “course-correct” him. About halfway through it is when Murderdock catches on that something’s fishy, follows Gwen to the Milesverse, and decides that he’s going to use it as his escape route from the Hand.

No matter what though he is definitely gonna have to become less stabbity, and I can only imagine that learning curve will be downright hilarious. :D

POCKETS

• wireless headphones - a lightweight pair of simple bluetooth headphones. highly useful for phone-calls mid-web-slinging as well as for listening to music on commutes. they were a gift from glory grant after she'd watched gwen untangle her headphone wires from a string of web one too many times.

• a guitar pick or two - solely for mj, often ending up in gwen's pockets after mj drops one on the floor and leaves it. guitarists do have a lack of object permanence when it comes to dropped picks after all.

• hairpins - spiders can go a lot of places. through solid objects is not one of them. gwen keeps a few hairpins on hand for the purpose of getting into places that might be locked a little to tight. of course, never trying to trespass - it is often in the event of abandoned locations that are locked up and forgotten about.

• tidepen / compact detergent - come on. can't wear a white suit ( even a symbiote ) and not carry on of these around.

• metrocard - allowing her to traverse the subways, given to her by her father after he caught her jumping the turnstile one too many times.

BAG

• notebook - a mixture of class notes, random writings, groceries lists, and ideas yet to be realized. there's really no rhyme or reason to the organization but it has plenty of margin doodles and highlighter marks.

• drum key - moves between her bag and pockets. often left behind. very useful tool for someone who slams the snare drum as hard as gwen.

• pliers and an allen wrench - for the occasional mechanical emergency. often this emergency is the mary janes having gwen do all the furniture building and break-down. super-strength and all.

• compact film camera - great for immortalizing memories with a fun vintage-y look. a lot of the photos include a thumb in the top right corner or blown-out lighting. but she's having fun with it.

• usb sticks - how they ended up in there is a mystery. they probably contain a mixture of photos, videos, audio recordings, and text documents of varying importance.

• XLR cable & 6.35 mm cable - somehow also always ends up in her possession. highly important for rehearsals. somehow almost always forgotten.

additional random hc: gwen loves watching football ( american ) and is a suny buffalo fan ( because no way is she an army football fan or a rutgers fan ) insofar as d1 collegiate sports. nfl wise she's 100% a jets fan ( because jets-mets combo is real )

stacy family history stuff: going off the county meath lineage ( ireland ) for the stacys i kind of place them as having working-class origins in the north bronx ( particularly a neighborhood like woodland heights ) important to note is that irish-americans were typically recruited as police officers when arriving in the united states. generally because it was a job that those already living in the u.s. did not want to do in addition to the fact that irish immigrants already spoke english as a native language so public-facing jobs were open to them ( as they didn't have a language barrier )

this of course established family traditions of police officers in a lot of families like this. based on george being relatively high-ranking in the force before quitting i think it'd be fair to assume the stacy's have a tradition of being cops. i think there's also some thoughts to explore with george having grown up during the height of neoliberalism in the united states ( the reagan administration ) as well as the burning of the bronx in the late 70s. i dont have those thoughts all together but i imagine it would have caused him to do some major reevaluation of his previously held views after leaving the police force.

equally, i think being raised in this sort of family ( and with gwen's personality ) gwen would be critical and anti-authority to a degree but prior to becoming spider-gwen how tangible that criticism actually was is probably debatable. i think it wouldn't really be until she becomes spider-gwen that she kinda thinks a bit more deeply on any potential biases.

wrt last posted headcanon also i think alot about how the mary janes ( before they knew gwen was spider-gwen ) were really mad at her and kind of tore into her for flaking. and how i just know if gwen had it her way she'd be on stage with them every. single. time if she could.

writing a lil assorted headcanons post. im giving gwen an appalachian parent because i get the vibe that while they've been in ny a while her mom's side is from like north carolina or west virginia. or actually maybe pittsburgh - then gwen can be an obnoxious steelers fan.

i know gwen’s color is pink but really i headcanon her as being into muted colors, flannels — like way more grunge fashion. like allison reynolds in the breakfast club. i think pink fits her “soul” in a metaphysical way ( she’s incredibly caring and has like an indestructible moral compass and that feels very “pink” to me — i can’t explain why ) but probably not her fashion sense given the subcultures she likely hangs around with.

i can’t remember which issue it was but the one where she fights her alternate self as a green goblin. but that portrayal with the spiked headband and denim seemed like the most spot on to me

sometimes i just think about all the shit gwen went through, primarily in the comics. like even beyond losing peter and essentially losing harvey. her dad being targeted and put in a coma. losing her powers and relying on the kingpin, then bonding with venom. deciding to "do things the right way" and getting sent to by a jury of her peers to a SHIELD maximum security prison for A WHOLE YEAR. like that plus all the multiverse stuff of hearing about yourself dying in like every other universe.

like i know every spider-person has a traumatic origin but she went through so much and basically her dad was the only person she could talk to about it all and have it make any sense. that's why i love george stacy. he doesn't get the whole venom thing and why gwen wants to continue being a superhero despite the legal system screwing her over. but he supports her and takes her out for a burger anyways.

gwenom verse: kind of a cursory write-up but the 'gwenom verse' for this blog will essentially be a divergent earth-65 where certain events don't occur. the sort of main catalyst to this divergence being aleksei sytsevich killing george stacy instead of just incapacitating him. this leads gwen to fall right into kingpin's plans for her, via an impromptu team up with frank castle to kill matt murdock. ben parker's words ( that peter made a sacrifice, and if gwen has the power to change things - to get revenge for peter it was her obligation to do so ) are the final nail in the coffin to create a divergent, and less morally absolute gwen.

samantha wilson attempts to stop the duo; but the venom symbiote is simply too effective at amplifying gwen's anger at murdock. earth-65 becomes a darker world all for it, as SHIELD is pretty much ineffective at reigning in the anti-heros and vigilantes of the world. the 'ghost-spider' joins the ranks of logan and frank castle - carrying out a form of vigilante justice on a world farrrr more corrupt and backwards than earth-616.

harvey osborn recovers from his injuries; but to the dismay of gwen's new path. as gwen once saved osborn from his rage, harvey feels he has to do the same. the green goblin soon becomes ghost-spider's arch-rival. the battlelines of good vs evil in this version of earth-65 are blurry. SHIELD covertly employs vigilantes like gwen and logan, but keeps them at a distance so they may be disavowed. meaning, harvey is on his own in his fight to uphold the legacy of spider-woman & the stacy's.

headcanon ( music )

gwen's dad was a huge influence on her getting into music, specifically the drums. he'd leave on all manner of classic rock and 80s prog rock tracks while she was younger. watching the legendary keith moon of the who's "won't get fooled again" drum solo on a live recording was a big 'a-ha' moment for the young aspiring musician.

george stacy encouraged her newfound love of rock ( and later hardcore && punk ) and music in general by brushing up on his guitar skills. he hadn't played since late in his college years, but strumming a few power chords is much like riding a bike. the two were soon the bane of their neighbors' eardrums with their after-school jam sessions.

once gwen got older, later moved and out and formed a band with her friends the two didn't play as much. though, sometimes george's neighbors can hear him strumming away to won't get fooled again and the who's my generation. just as gwen's dad helped influence her love for music, gwen helped reignite a lost hobby of george's.

hc: gwen plays zero build mode in fortnite and always has the rick roll emote equipped. and she is most definitely emoting after every elim.

i have a lot of thoughts about gwen & music. so i kinda touched on in an earlier hc about how gwen got into music and the relationship she shares with her father with music but i think i wanna talk about more what music means to gwen.

i think if we look at it from like a high-level view music is really a pillar of what defines earth-65 gwen from the other iterations of herself. her ability to express herself through music ( specifically, the drums which are kind of a chaotic instrument in rock music - with some rebellious undertones which is really fitting for a gwen that's so different than the typical 'set path' for gwen stacy in other universes ) is really something that sets herself apart. i think that is such a huge anchor when having to deal with the incomprehensible mental baggage of meeting yourself in other worlds. it seems like such a small thing maybe but the aggregation of hobbies/talents/passions like this really do kind of make a person so i feel like its fitting to call it character defining.

in addition to that i feel like its 1000% her safe space. there's sooo many voices in gwen's life pulling her in every which direction and music ( whether listening or playing ) is really the perfect outlet for her to shut that all out for at least a few minutes. its really one of the few constants in her life. an extension of that too is how much her relationship with her bandmates matters. which makes it especially difficult when she had to hide her identity and it just appeared as if she was ditching them.
