These are the things I want to illustrate and do with my time. Instead I find myself full of darkness and rage at the entire world for having to justify my existence as a Jewish Israeli person after seeing my people's collective nightmare come true (yet again).

Along with the sheer joy of seeing children and mothers and elderlies return home, my heart was broken once again to hear the news of the Ariel and Kfir Bibas and their parents Yarden and Shiri who remain in Hamas captivity, among many many others who are still held hostage in Gaza. We must bring them all home. Now.

(Inspired, very loosely, by the Coventry Carol, which I first listened to when I was reading Electric Eden for my thesis project. As a Jewish person, though, I was not familiar with the text, and reading about the carol found out it tells the story of the Massacre of Innocents. I also found out that after the Coventry Blitz during WWII it gained more audience. Before the war I wanted to draw the historical event, since history and iconography are right up my alley, but then the world turned upside down and I barely draw as I used to. Hearing the news of the Bibas family I knew I had to draw a slightly different version of what I had in mind. The irony of it all.)

ואחר כך אני תוהה למה הולך לי רע בטינדר.

*זה כנראה ציטוט של גיתית פישר אבל חיפשתי בכל האינטרנט ואני ממש מתחילה לחשוד שהשותפה שלי המציאה אותו.

English:

2nd frame: Kapara... (a hebrew word of endearment, mostly used by Sepharadic Jews, very funny when used by Ashkenazi Jews.)

4th frame: "every time an Ashkenazi says Kapara, somewhere in the world a fairy dies." (which I think is a quote by an Israeli comedian but I'm starting to think my roommate made it up.)

Okay so remember that very exciting project I posted a sneak peek of back in September?? This was a preview for a work presented at a small group exhibition called Unmatch at the Israeli Illustration Week in Tel Aviv. And this is the whole thing. The exhibition opened yesterday and it's really really impressive. I'm so overwhelmed now that it's open and an eighteen-year-old's heartbreak is out there in the wild.

(Also, I think it's okay for me to be comfortable with the title Illustrator now.)
