The preparations for the trip were almost finished. All the provisions gathered and put away, medical supplies, maps, and other goods. Penguin and himself had taken into account everything. From being stranded in the ship for far too long to any damage done to the submarine and so forth. And, as it was customary, they decided on going that night to have a drink and bid their farewell to this island. Zou. Almost a mythical place, the one in which he had been pouring all of his energies: hope, envisioned as a faint light at the end of a tunnel. Once he had stepped on it Law had felt a gulp of the ever rare emotions resurfacing, yet he pushed it down and to the bottom of his mind. For it to be dealt with later. Or not ever. 

It had been literal months of bottling things up, months since he had stepped in his submarine and had the privacy and comfort of his own room to deal with things his way, but after this night all that would change.  Law was enjoying the company of his crew once again, the way they would talk to the samurais they would be taking to Wano with them, the laughter and clattering of glasses in the background, all of it making his drink sweeter.

The surgeon lifted his gaze, the glass of liquor in his hand, and that’s when he saw her, in a corner. The face vaguely familiar, the mind palace in his head quickly providing a name, a crew. But could that be? The world knew they had been wiped out after the Great War. His golden eyes narrowed slightly, and for a little bit he ignored it and focused once more on his crew. 

But the next time he looked her way and caught her looking he knew he was right. Law disappeared, if only for five, ten minutes, letting her think him gone, then appeared next to her, and sat across, holding the crimson eyes with his calmed, golden gaze. 

A smile drew itself on his lips. “Lotus Red.” He called her by the infamous epithet. The World Government had said she had died, alongside the rest of her crew. Not a survivor, the very few ones that escaped? Hunted down, hung up, as a lesson to all the other pirates. This could be you. Yet, somehow, she had survived. “...I must say clandestinity agrees with you.” he was interested, in how had she made it out alive. In why was she there from all places, in that bar.  Because it all felt as too much of a coincidence right now.
