In 2015, I played Life is Strange; I was 17 years old, and hadn't quite realized I was a trans woman yet. For me back then, LiS was a fantasy more than anything; not because I wished I had Max's powers, but because I got to play as a young woman falling in love with her best friend. Even before I could articulate why, I felt this deep ache of longing for what could have been. By the end of that year, I had come out to myself and my friends, and I still credit LiS for helping me figure things out that way.
When I first played LiS, I felt like the "Bay" ending was the most appropriate for Max's story. If LiS is a game about growing up, then sacrificing Chloe is a hard but necessary choice to make, and I believed it was the right one. I never questioned the idea that good people will sacrifice their own happiness for the good of society, or for the people they love. So, when I began adulthood, I did so with purpose, but without passion. I did all the things I needed to do to survive and make it out into the world on my own, and I was miserable for most of the time.
When I came back to the LiS fandom in the past couple of years, I got a chance to re-examine my favorite game with a new perspective. I immersed myself in fanfic, I indulged my nostalgia, and I began to reinterpret this work that shaped me years before. I looked at the "Bae" ending especially with fresh eyes; I started seeing it not as a selfish decision, but an unselfish one, a choice made out of love for a girl who was let down by everyone who was supposed to care for her before. How cruel it was to imagine Chloe's story ending with her bleeding out in a bathroom, still thinking that nobody cared for her.
Now, I'm 25. I'm an adult in every sense of the word, and despite everything, it seems like my life is...kind of working out. I'm almost a year into HRT, I have a job that lets me live a reasonably nice life, and I'm planning on moving in with my girlfriend. When I started True Colors, I tried to temper my expectations, and hoped that my nostalgia for the past wouldn't inhibit my enjoyment of a new entry in the series. So, 6 years after the first, I played a Life is Strange game; and, for the second time, it showed me exactly what I needed to see.
If Life is Stange is a game about growing up, True Colors is a game about what happens after. It's a game about starting over, about finding a place to call home and people to call family. Where Max's powers let her find the perfect way to get what she wanted or say the right thing, Alex's powers ask her to understand the people around her. Where LiS holds the threat of the Storm over Max's head, Gabe's death in True Colors is just a tragedy that Alex has to process. LiS' central mystery comes down to an evil man doing evil things; True Colors' is the result of an entrenched capitalist machine that operates not out of malice, but out of sheer self-interest.
When I finished True Colors, I was confronted with a choice that felt like the polar opposite of LiS' ending. After all the excitement and emotion, the question posed to Alex first felt almost incidental. Nobody's life hung in the balance, neither choice carried any real emotional consequences, and there was no way of knowing what the ultimate results might be. But as I considered Gabe's vision for Alex, I was struck by how real it felt. How it felt like the choices I was already making in life, and the choices I know are yet to come in my future. I think 17-year-old me would have jumped at the idea of a life of adventure, traveling the country with the girl I love. But now, I can't help but think of how many chances we really get to find a home. I doubt it's a high number. So I chose to stay. And I can only hope that, whenever I'm given that choice in my life, I am brave enough to take a chance on whatever place I've found for myself.

so, something that keeps coming back to me over and over is the idea of adapting Life is Strange - or rather, how can you adapt life is strange ?
a lot of other adaptations of narrative games rely on the fact that the game is telling you a straightforward (if not always linear) story, where it doesn’t matter how you get through the plot beats, just that you get through them. but with life is strange, the whole point is that it does matter how you get through the plot beats, and not just in the way that it affects the end choice or whatever: it’s in choosing which plot beats to go to - which decisions to ultimately make - that the player crafts their version of the story, and you can’t get a straightforward story out of that.
the other tricky part is the controversial ending. out of all the LiS games, the first one definitely had the most impactful ending, yet people are still debating which one is the better or more right ending, and that’s just not something you can really get with a traditional adaptation.
just as a thought experiment, i’ve been racking my brain for solutions to this little dilemma, and i’ve come up with a few:
the first is an interactive show, like bandersnatch or all the other interactive specials netflix got obsessed with after bandersnatch. the problem with that is that it’s a lot of resources for just one episode, let alone five; plus, at that point, why not just play the game itself? it doesn’t offer a unique enough experience to justify it
the next idea is an original prequel story. i know before the storm already exists, but there’s still plenty of time between that game and the first one. hell, there’s definitely a story to tell with the time leading up to and following rachel’s disappearance, and given teen dramas are still fairly popular, this could scratch that particular itch. it does unfortunately mean no max caulfield, who is just as iconic as life is strange itself, so it’d be a bit tricky to exclude her and still have it feel authentic.
one potential option is to not canonize any ending, simply finishing the show on max being given the choice and not having made it by the time credits roll. i imagine as much of an interesting artistic choice that would be, though, plenty of casual viewers would probably feel extremely shortchanged by not showing what max chose. of course, you could also canonize one ending, but then you just get the same problem of the original ending being controversial but on a potentially larger scale.
something less offensive could be to make an entirely new ending. DN had indicated before that the original bay ending would see chloe survive the shooting but end up in a coma, letting the story end on max being in the hospital with chloe waiting for her to wake up. on the other side of things, the bae ending could finally get the reworking it’s been owed for years, showing much more of the storm’s aftermath, who survived, what became of chloe and max once leaving the town, all that jazz. it could be new enough to appeal to fans tired of the same two endings from before while also not immediately alienating casual viewers
at the end of the day, this is all just me thinking out loud, and personally i’m not sure if i want a life is strange adaptation. i love the aesthetic and vibes of the original game and would love to see that put onto television/streaming, but this is such a tricky story to adapt like this that i would only want to see it if it was done right and in a way that would respect fans of the original game while also reaching a new audience of people who might’ve never played the game. until then, i’m glad the adaptation that was rumoured to be in pre-production is still, well, in pre-production

Prompt: Post-Bae ending, William, Joyce and Rachel's spirits watching over Chloe and Max as they enjoy a date, while reminiscing about everything that happened since their respective deaths, and how Chloe ultimately managed to overcome the odds and flourish. Perhaps some lingering friction regarding Joyce bringing David into Chloe's life, but at the very least she accepts that that was a huge mistake on her part, and she's otherwise on friendly terms with the other two.
Honestly Anon, I think you should write this. It sounds like you have something ultra specific in mind and you want to see it all laid out on the page, why not give yourself a challenge and breath it into life with your own words?

4 in Feb 2022 - Day 30: <SPOILERS>
(I’ll make a 4iF post in a bit, right now I’m just gonna talk about Life is Strange.)
Before I start I want to say for all the shit I gave the remaster throughout this playthrough those final scenes worked great on ‘hella high’ and it was fucking beautiful. I guess I can personally forgive all the errors crashing and bugs because ultimately I’ll forget them but still remember those final scenes with Max & Chloe in the storm. So fucking good!
But yeah episode 5, I definitely forgot how much I get affected by the ending of this series and even though replaying episodes 1 & 2 had me a bit jaded about wanting to play the rest it was so worth it, like Max & Chloe finally together after all the bullshit in their lives up to that moment, it’s worth it. It’s just worth it.
Hearing Chloe’s thoughts as she’s willing to sacrifice herself, saying what she believes could be her final words to Max, honestly heart-wrenching. But Max (Bae>Bay Max, comic canon Max, my version of Max) isn’t willing to lose her, it’s not Chloe’s fault that the storm is here and after everything she’s been through she deserves a happier ending than to die in a fucking bathroom still looking for Rachel.
Chloe’s still my favorite fictional character just ever and those last moments with her in this game are truly key moments in my life.
-
Unrelated but I’m getting the linework for the Rachel Amber dragon tattoo tomorrow so I’ll make sure to post those here as well, cause honestly I’ve really been wanting that tattoo and after replaying Before the Storm this week, it feels like it’s coming full circle again. (Like how it felt once I got my Chloe Price sleeve tattoo.)
-
Also final thoughts about Max using her powers...
In this episode when time fell apart was definitely strange and for a while I thought that it was debunking the theory I had a bit. But when Max was walking through the moments of the game in the weird path right before the final scene, there were moments from multiple timelines, all moments Max was a part of. So I’m thinking that the crazy between time thing was more happening in Max’s mind, as she was trying to pick apart her fears of using her powers. And when the alternate Max (”Are you cereal? I’m you dumbass”) was talking to our Max it wasn’t based on facts. It seemed like she was just trying to scare our Max into fixing everything and stop using her powers. But that Max wasn’t being honest, and in the small amount of time with her, I got the sense our Max was the one in control, she was genuinely able to make the choice, it was hers. Chloe even said in her final moments, “You’re the only one who can [make that choice].”
So I personally think the storm isn’t caused by Max using her powers, but rather as a side effect of whatever caused Max to gain her powers in the first place. Because I don’t care what small changes Max made stumbling through time for a few moments in a week, she can’t cause an eclipse or a second moon altogether, so why would she be able to cause a storm to occur. It’s not like when Daniel was using his powers in LiS 2 massive earthquakes were destroying the city or anything.
The only thing I’m curious about then is why there was a second storm in the comics. I’d have to reread and figure that out or maybe it just hasn’t been explained yet. And I realize that I’m obviously looking for reasons why this could be true and not trying to disprove myself too harshly, but that’s the fun of fan theories. Like I get to engage with this piece of art I enjoy outside of what was originally intended and that makes it more personal and that’s completely fine. Going forward with the comic reviews (whenever they release more) I’ll probably post about my thoughts regarding this and hopefully sometime in the future we’ll get some explanation to what’s going on to give these traumatized youths their ‘strange’ powers in this universe. And though I don’t think (or want) it to happen in a game, it’s definitely possible that we’ll get some cool shit down the line in the comics regarding the whole connecting universe where all this shit takes place.

What Monopoly Piece Do They Use? MILESTONE EVENT
This is my 300 follower milestone. It is still open for those who may still want to join!
Battleship: You radiate confidence, power, and tactical skills. Aware of your power, you have no problem making deals, and buying as much as you can. You play to win, and use rational strategy to achieve that goal.
Honey Bum, Emmie,
Shoe: You are methodical and practical. You know what the goal is, and you make a plan grounded in logic. You don’t feel the need to use power and strength unless forced, you use rational steps to win.
Storm,
Cannon: Similar to the battleship, you are strong. You tend to be more impulsive, and jump into deals without thinking things through fully. You play the game to keep everyone else on their toes, and thrive in the chaos that you create when you explode.
Astrid bae, Dreamer,
Car: You are logical and practical. You think through all of your options before deciding to buy a space or make a deal. Not one to rush, you advance at your own pace and try to pick the best option.
Dog: You are not as competitive, and you enjoy the game with friends. This does not mean you will just roll over and let them win. You are more than willing to fight to win if you have been backed into a corner.
Chloe’, Rosie
Horse and Rider: You like to feel in control of the situation, and tend to dislike when others counter your plan. A lot of thought is put into your actions, and take pride when things go to plan. You view winning as just a plan well thought out.
Sly,
Iron: You can be logical, but also have a short fuse before you overheat. You prefer things in order and planned out, though that won’t stop you from burning others to win. You are often overlooked, and you shock others when you blaze a trail of victory.
Bee,
Thimble: You are resilient and reserved with your attacks. You are overlooked and others try to beat you down because they don’t see your strength. You never attack first, but when targeted, you never hesitate to make the winning deal or move.
Brittknee <3,
Hat: You are level headed and fair. You do not try to double-cross, or win using unfair moves. You do not view a win as a victory unless you are able to do so by following the rules and playing the game as it should be played.
Ace,
Wheelbarrow: You work hard and you are not super competitive. You enjoy giving your all to the game, but do not feel bad if you lose. For you, winning is not the end goal, working hard and having fun is.

The Keith’s LiS art AU
So I had to come up with a reason I do some of the renders I do. This kind of grew into a fully fleshed out but probably still illogical Alternate Universe designed to answer the questions viewers might have regarding post-lis appearances by characters.
Firstly; none of the principal characters died in the storm. And yes that means there WAS a storm and the bae ending has been canonised (No Spanish Sahara here, thank you)
The Set up:
Max Caulfield found one day that her powers had morphed once more. Where she had previously been able to rewind time, and to travel back in time into photographs of herself she now discovered that she could travel back into ANY photograph though the effort was herculean and left her dangerously ill and weak afterwards.
Max had been wracked by guilt about allowing the storm to ravage Arcadia Bay and while she had found no workable way to save Chloe from death without the Storm occurring she tried to approach the situation from another angle. What if she, instead of removing Chloe from the Blackwell bathroom equation, removed Nathan Prescott?
But how to remove Nathan? With the resources Max had at her disposal, she entered the photograph she had found in The Dark Room of Rachel Amber. Arriving in the Dark Room behind Nathan as he leered over a bound and helpless Rachel she swiftly hid herself away. Noticing a loaded syringe on a worktop, she quickly emptied it and refilled it with water before returning it.
As Max hid herself behind the worktop she took out her phone. With relief she found that it retained all the numbers from her present time. She texted Chloe Price urging both her and David Masden to come to the Dark Room’s location to rescue Rachel.
Nathan drugged Rachel to keep her quiet, but as he only injected her with water, she didn’t overdose and die as in the prime timeline. Max returned home via the photograph.
Chloe and David rescued Rachel. Nathan was committed to a psychiatric hospital after being deemed to be suffering a psychotic breakdown.
Nathan blew the whistle on Mark Jefferson’s repeated abductions of female students and he is currently in prison.
Rachel was so unnerved by the experience she accelerated her plans to leave Arcadia Bay. But she did so with Frank Bowers, breaking Chloe’s heart although they eventually reconciled as friends.
Other than Chloe not being shot, and Nathan not being at School events at Blackwell Academy that week happened much as they did in the Game. Max did come across Chloe in the girls bathroom but it was due to Chloe being there to sell weed and the two rekindled their relationship over the course of that week leading up to the storm.
Kate Marsh still attempted suicide. Even without the ‘sex tape’, the extent of the bullying from Victoria Chase and her cabal drove her to the roof where she was talked down by Max.
The Storm still happened. Max had interfered with the timeline to save Rachel but this time the Storm appeared less powerful and there were very few casualties.
After the Storm:
Max and Chloe travelled extensively around the US in Chloe’s beat up truck. Eventually they were married. Chloe chose to have the wedding in full Highland Dress and had Rachel as her Best Woman. Kate, ‘a less of a cow’ Victoria, and Alyssa Anderson were bridesmaids.
Rachel Amber lives and works in Los Angeles as an Actress and Model, she still returns to Arcadia Bay periodically to see her friends.
Kate Marsh lives in Seattle with her dog Matthew. She is a successful children’s author and illustrator.
Alyssa Anderson also lives in Seattle. After being saved by Max during the storm she decided to repay that by dedicating herself to helping others. Aiding first responders during the storm and ultimately becoming a nurse. She rents a room at Kate’s house but between the violin and the howling Dachshund this may be a temporary arrangement.
Victoria Chase splits her time between working at her parents art gallery and working as a photojournalist.
Warren Graham is going out with Brooke Scott. She doesn’t let him out much.
Courtney Wagner and Taylor Christiansen both live and work in Portland where they continue to hang out with Victoria.
Nathan Prescott is in hospital in Portland. He is responding well to treatment and may be discharged in the near future. Victoria Chase is very supportive and visits regularly.

An Explanation of Why Louis and Violet are Both Terrific Love Interests [1/5]
Tumblr media
+Why both romantic routes are not only amazing but better than other games I’ve personally played in the past.
+Why some people are idiots and get off on picking stupid fights.
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5
Grab a beverage and sit down, I’m about to weave you a tale.
A long time ago, I made an Instagram account. I did this so that I could have another place to intake TWDG content. I got to see lots of artwork and watch fun little videos and edits and it was all great.
For about an hour before everything went downhill far too quickly. You see, I rarely go on that Instagram account anymore because no matter what tag I look under to search for content, a good 60% of it is all the same: hateful.
Hateful towards Violet, hateful towards Louis, hateful towards each other. I can’t tell you how many posts I’ve scrolled past with the title “TELLTALE AND SKYBOUND HATE LOUIS AND HERE’S WHY” or “VIOLET IS THE WORST AND HERE’S WHY” or “WHY VIOLENTINE IS CANON AND CLOUIS IS NOT” or any other nonsense along those lines.
After that, I quit going on Instagram.
Until one day, I thought to myself, “Well, maybe now that the game is over, those dingdongs have moved on and I can look at the twdg tag in peace!”
And to be fair, it wasn’t as bad, but it’s still actively being made. Along with other questionable content that I think has taken hours off of my life just by witnessing it but we’re not going to dive down that rabbit hole right now.
Anyway, after glancing over another “SKYBOUND HATES LOUIS” post, I couldn’t help but think, “Y’know, either y’all don’t realize how lucky we were to have gotten a bisexual lead with not only one great romantic option but two amazing romantic options, or y’all are just a bunch of idiots who get off on fighting. Maybe even both. I mean, sure, they’re not equal in every single way possible and there are a lot of things that I wanted, but it’s a helluva lot better than what we’ve been given in the past with other games.”
The thoughts kept building up as I recalled previous games that had optional romances that left me underwhelmed or downright disappointed. Neither Louis nor Violet have perfect romance routes, each with things that we wish we had more of, but we’re lucky to have gotten what we did, and because I haven’t written a post like this in a long time, allow me to break it down for you.
Keep in mind that this is just my opinion and how I see things. I’m sure there’ll be a point where you say “Well, CJ, I beg to differ on this particular topic and/or idea-” and that’s fine.
Hell, maybe you have a game with a disappointing romance that I didn’t list here because I’ve yet to play it. That’s great, feel free to share! This post is for fun but also because I need to vent some frustrations towards a fight that is 100% unnecessary but continues regardless.
Beware of spoilers for the following games:
Life is Strange Persona 4 TWDG: A New Frontier King’s Quest [2015] Catherine
[both Louis and Violet are great!]
all y’all on instagram are just idiots
Now, in case you couldn’t tell from my blog, I love Louis. When it comes to my personal canon of TWDG, clouis is my endgame. Louis is my favorite non-playable character of the entire series, if not my absolute favorite. I love him.
You know who else I love? Violet. She’s great. I found myself relating a lot to her character and I wanted to see her make it to the end okay. I was pissed when she was pissed at me, but in the end, I was more pissed about her treatment regarding her blinding and how easily she and Clementine made up.
But you know what I really, truly love? A great bisexual protagonist: Clementine.
Clementine’s the lucky one here in that she has the choice between sweet, charming, loyal Louis and witty, strong yet sensitive Violet. This is the definition of “bi panic” because really
Tumblr media
I do want to add that I haven’t played Violet’s romance route, but I don’t need to to know that it’s great. There are a thousand and one blogs who can explain her romance with Clementine 100% better than I can, but I will try my best within this section and my conclusion since I’m mostly talking about them together.
Now, why is it great that Clementine is a bisexual protagonist? Well, there’s obviously the representation which was more than welcome in this case, regardless of what some idiots will say.
Not only that, but it allows the player to romance a boy or a girl, which again, is obvious but I have some points about this that I’ll bring up when I talk about other games, like Life is Strange and Persona 4, so put a little pin in that for later.
Both Louis and Violet are presented as loving partners for Clementine, and they’re both people who Clementine cares about. Based on your choices and how you play her, you can be as affectionate with them as possible and help them better themselves over the course of the game.
Louis and Violet have different but interesting backstories, they have different ways of communicating their feelings, they both deal with their own struggles [internal and external] and open up to Clementine in different ways.
Yes, there was plenty to be desired within the routes. We’ve talked about that before so I won’t go into great detail about it, but in conclusion: Louis and Violet are great.
So why do people argue about it?
My scientific conclusion states that they’re idiots who get off on picking fights over the internet.
And that they don’t know how good they got it because we could’ve gotten so, SO much worse.
At this point, I will be comparing the Louis/Violet romance to romances found in other games I’ve played, starting with a game that I liked very much, but was ultimately disappointed with, well.... everything.
[life is strange and imbalance]
every choice matters except not really until we hit episode 5: bae vs bay
Tumblr media
Life is Strange is an episodic game that released in 2015. It follows Max Caulfied, a young, aspiring photographer attending Blackwell Academy who learns that she can rewind time after witnessing a girl being shot in the bathrooms.
I was pretty into this when it first came out. I played each episode as it came out, I read stuff on Tumblr and watched every theory video on youtube I could find. It had a likable and relatable protagonist, a pretty cool missing person mystery, cringy dialogue, and cool rewind powers.
Let’s talk about Max, our playable protagonist.
She’s shy, awkward, nosy, and she wants to be a photographer but lacks confidence when it comes to putting herself out there despite having the talent. She goes through a lot of grief and betrayal through the game, but ultimately learns more about herself and how her choices affect everything around her.
She’s also bisexual, and like Clementine, she can romance a girl or a boy.
Love Interest #1: Chloe Price
Tumblr media
Chloe is the deuteragonist [secondary main character] of Life is Strange, and Max’s old childhood friend. She’s also the girl who gets shot in the bathroom, and the girl whose [girl]friend, Rachel Amber, is missing.
Over the course of the story, Max and Chloe reconnect and grow closer as they try and find Rachel while also trying to figure out Max’s powers. We spend most of our time with Chloe, going to diner’s and junkyards and what have you.
We learn a lot about Chloe’s home life: Her father died in a car accident, her mom owns a diner and remarried an asshole who smacks Chloe around when she smokes weed in her bedroom. We see Chloe as her most vulnerable, we save her life numerous times because she just won’t stop getting herself killed.
Hell, we do this to the point where it begins to physically hurt Max and makes her bleed. We do this because Max claims that Chloe is the most important person to her.
The most important person in Max’s life.
Now, spoilers for the ending, but it turns out that the storm that’s come to destroy Arcadia Bay is all because of Chloe. So, the final choice Max has to make is to either go back and let Chloe die in the bathroom or let the storm destroy a town and kill nearly everyone there.
Either you sacrifice an entire town of people or you sacrifice Chloe.
Bay vs Bae, as the kids dubbed it.
Romancing Chloe isn’t exactly full of fluffy smooches, though. You’d think it would, but considering that the girl we’re looking for is Chloe’s girlfriend who Chloe loved very much, it’s mostly Max saying how much she cares about Chloe and then Chloe turning around like “Boy, I wish Rachel was here...”
Then we find out Rachel’s fucking dead and that’s a real romance killer if I’ve ever seen one.
Hell, the only time you get a real smooch from her [that we see] is if you sacrifice her! If you sacrifice the town, the game’s like “Really? Okay....” and you watch Max and Chloe drive through a wrecked town and into the sunset together.
There’s a lot of different factors to it that you don’t get unless you’ve played it, but for me, it was disappointing. I didn’t even romance Chloe the first time because I didn’t even really like her, but when I did romance her, I felt cheated!
I only get to be happy with my girlfriend if I can live with the blood of an entire town on my hands?? And odds are, fate’s gonna keep trying to kill her, so I also have to hurt myself and numerous timelines to keep her alive until I eventually explode????
Man, I don’t know if I want to commit to that, y’know? Thankfully, there’s another romance option I can look at, right?
....Right?

LIFE IS STRANGE COMIC RANT
So... I have officially finished reading the Life is Strange comics up to Issue #12 and I have some things to say.
SPOILERS i guess...
For starters, I have to wonder... what did the writers even hope to accomplish by making these? Did they want to show a continuation of the bae over bay ending featuring Max and Chloe dealing with the aftermath of that fateful week? Did they want to provide some form of closure for Pricefield supporters who were left wanting after an open-ended finale? It sure seemed that way from how the comics were marketed. And yet, I'm sitting here writing this feeling outraged at how this story, even if non-canon, was handled. I feel disgusted by how they handled Max's personality and motivations, how pathetic she feels and how downright painful it is to read some of her thoughts. Every issue I found myself frowning and repeating in my mind that "Max would never do that", "There's no way Max would say that", "Chloe would never be ok with that". Are we supposed to accept that Max would just abandon Chloe because reality is messing up for some reason and suddenly we learn that the Max from the comics is not the actual Max we played as in the game but rather a Max that doesn't belong in that reality and has to go to a timeline in which she is the third wheel to a love triangle between Chloe and Rachel so that the Chloe from the destroyed bay timeline can stay behind and look for her own Max or the Max that actually belongs in that timeline? Are there two Maxes in the same universe at the same time and Chloe has to look for her on her own for years and this other Max just kisses her goodbye forever? Max, who did everything she did during that week for Chloe, who went through hell and back to keep Chloe at her side, who sacrificed and entire town and let her friends die all for her love of Chloe would just leave her behind, teleport to a new universe and accept that Chloe is already taken in this new reality and would stop loving her romantically? If you love me let me go bullshit? Really? We played as Max, we rooted for her and we wanted her and Chloe to be together but to see her submissively accepting a reality in which she is friendzoned by Chloe because Chloe is happy there and she can't go back because the plot doesn't let her or she doesn't want to because apparently she is perfectly fine with being friendzoned for years by the woman she loves all in the name of "... but she is happy"????? When Max dreams of "her Chloe" telling her that she shouldn't forget her guilt for what happened in Arcadia Bay and should always remember it because it somehow makes her a good person, are we supposed to accept that too? Is that the message? She isn't allowed to let go? She isn't allowed to move on? Her being in this reality is some kind on punishment by the universe that she must endure? Max even convinces herself that it's bad and selfish that she wants to go back to the only reality she has ever known because... the universe doesn't want her to and will keep sending her into these flickers? Issue #12 is all about bulding up the tension towards this great climax where Max will access the Transect or whatthefuckever and be reunited with "her" Chloe, the Chloe we know, after two years of fucking around and when she finally finds her timeline... nope, anti-climax, she can't access it, she can't go back to her, she is stuck here so might as well go on a road trip and watch how happy the person she loves is with some other chick who she has to accept as her BFF. It's all so insulting and stupid.
I'm not really sure why I'm ranting about this since it feels like a lot like needlessly and senselessly ripping into somebody else's AU fic which might be their own interpretation of things and that's perfectly fine, but the thing is this is an officially licensed product sold for money and marketed primarily at people who chose the bae over bay ending and I went into the comics thinking that. I read somewhere that the story was meant to be wrapped up in Issue #4 but because of the overwhelming success and some outside intervention, they decided to prolong the story. And now we have Amberpricefield for everyone and zero closure and love for Pricefield supporters. Yay.
This is strictly personal but I hate Amberprice to no end. I believe Rachel is a well-crafted character and I respect her as such, I just hate who she is, her personality, her behaviour, her manipulation of everyone around her. And with this in mind, seeing Amberprice so vividly when I myself am a die-hard Pricefielder was more than a little jarring. I get that this is a new reality where everyone is happy and Rachel never cheated on Chloe and genuinely reciprocates her feelings. Thing is, we were never exposed to that, we were never shown how such a perfect relationship could be built between these characters and as such I can't see a reason to root for it. What little Amberprice we got was in the form of a semi-canon prequel game and even there it was left ambiguous as to whether Rachel returned Chloe's feelings or not. What we do know for certain is that Rachel manipulated Chloe to get out of Arcadia Bay, encouraged the more self-destructive aspects of her personality and, if you want to go the romance route, she canonically cheated on her twice. That's why I had trouble seeing so much Amberprice and Max not only being a witness to the whole thing but accepting it with her head down.
I hate shitting on people's work but ultimately I feel insulted by how the writers handled the story and these characters that are so dear to my heart. I don't mind Amberprice or Amberpricefield stories on AO3 or fanfiction.net which rewrite the character of Rachel to make her less of an asshole because I ignore them and, in the end, people can write about whateverthefuck they want. But the fact that they baited us and promised us a Pricefield story and what we got instead was an idyllic Amberprice with a friendzoned Max... I cannot see it as anything other than an insult.
And the last straw came in the form of that unspeakable road trip idea and the caption "Partners in time" used for Max, Chloe and the other one. I used to think that Amberprice was insulting but now I realize that Amberpricefield is even more insulting. Why the hell did we play 10 hours of a game which, at its core, was essentially about the relationship between these two characters called MAX AND CHLOE? Why the need to shove Rachel Amber wherever possible and, to add insult to injury, take a phrase so iconic, so powerful and so personal which belongs only to Max and Chloe such as "Partners in Time" and use it to refer to the three of them? Are we supposed to be OK with that? We fell in love with how much these two characters loved each other and to add a third participant feels incredibly out of place. Feels like the writers of the comic actively hate Max and Pricefielders who chose the bae over bay ending and think that what the fandom needs is to have the trio of the most important characters in Season 1 as BFF's as if we're still waiting for the release of Chaos Theory. Are these the new powerpuff girls, Titan Comics? Give me a break.
I'm going to keep reading, not buying, the comics just to see what else they can do with this clusterfuck of a story and how much more they can shit on Max, Chloe and Pricefield supporters. Honestly, I hope we see more love for Pricefield in future issues (judging from her Christmas sketch, at least the illustrator is slightly more Pricefield than the writer) but all seems to indicate that it's only going to go downhill from here.
Just needed to get this off my chest.

Apropos of nothing
TL;DR; I don’t hate anything that Chloe loves. She clearly loved Rachel Amber, just as she clearly loved Max Caulfield. How she acted on those feelings is up to personal interpretation due to the medium in which her story is told-- both in the original Life is Strange, and the subsequent prequel story Before the Storm.
SPOILER WARNING RE: Life is Strange 2, Episode 5, as it relates to Max and Chloe.
While I am a canonist, which is to say, I adhere to that which is canon. I accept those variations on a theme which are possible within the framework of the choice based medium. This is not to say that I don’t have my favorite AU fanfics that either bend or break canon, but I am careful to differentiate between that which is fandom and that which is canon. (It has been argued by some that BTS is a fanfic, just as the comic is a fanfic. There are various reasons why these arguments are put forth.)
What I do hate is the toxicity that has been introduced to this fandom by those who started this journey with BTS and who reject the original game in favor of the prequel that came after the original.
I just want to say that if you prefer Amberprice but accept the tragedy of the original LIS as being canon, even if you might want an AU where your ship remains pure... I respect and support you. Everyone deserves the right to dream.
If, on the other hand, you want to redefine the original game as fanfic, even though DONTNOD created the franchise with Life is Strange before BTS was even considered or handed off to DECK 9... then I rank you with Nero, fiddling while Rome burned.
I am incredibly grateful to DONTNOD for their reference to David Madsen and (determinate) Chloe Price and Max Caulfield. Given the need to treat LIS with respect, and the freedom of player choice in LIS with respect, I think they probably did the best possible thing in offering closure to Life is Strange. While I do remain frustrated with the handling of the LIS1 ending, the inclusion of closure to LIS1 in Ep5 LIS2 restores some small confidence in this studio.
If you’re not aware, the short version is:
BAE -  Joyce Price is dead. David Madsen is in Arizona. Chloe and Max are together and keep in touch with David. (Regardless of what choices you made as Max with regards to ‘romancing’ Chloe.)
BAY - Joyce is alive. David Madsen is in Arcadia Bay for a parole hearing. (It is presumed that he is attending Nathan Prescott’s parole hearing, after he was incarcerated for killing Chloe Price.) I’ve seen nothing revealed about Max keeping in touch with Joyce in this version of events.
I may not like the story options DONTNOD presented, but I can’t hate players who chose a different story than I... whatever their motivation.
What I can hate is the people who are toxic and exclusive in proclaiming that only their headcanon is canon. Thankfully, there is a lot less of this in the original LIS fandom (at least, before the BTS fans came to the scene) and most people could acknowledge that the BAE vs BAY choice was just a terrible choice for everyone. We unified over that. Unlike the come-late-to-the-party-Amberprice fans who reject the original story in favor of their headcanon and AU fandom and are mostly extremely toxic about it.
I don’t get a lot of Amberpricer’s mailing me, but when I do I try to respond respectfully and supportively.
Rachel was terrible to Chloe, based on canon, but Rachel was also incredibly important to Chloe during a very tough period in her life when Max could not be there for Chloe. While I don’t think that a relationship with Rachel was anything more than something Chloe wanted, even desperately wanted, BTS offered an opportunity for fans to realize a headcanon where they were a WLW couple and happy until tragedy strikes a few years later.
I say ‘headcanon’ only because it’s not 100% spelled out in BTS that Chloe and Rachel are a WLW couple after the BTS story ends, especially given all that we know of LIS canon about how Rachel treated Chloe, but it is at least possible this version is canon given the kiss scene that was included as a variation of the BTS storyline. So I acknowledge that those fans who favored this storyline are given the opportunity to realize that dream.
If I accept BTS as canon (and I do) then I also accept that those who chose Amberprice in BTS are, like me, canonists... so long as they also accept the great tragedy of BTS: Rachel dies between the prequel and the original Life is Strange story.
There’s no determinate variation where Rachel lives.
I personally accept this, and I even embrace Pricefield as the better relationship (as evidenced by both LIS1 and LIS2, determinate of player choices) but if an Amberpricer can respect where I stand in this fandom, and if they can separate their prefered AUs from the canon of Life is Strange, then I can offer my sympathies. I can even support them in favoring an AU where Chloe and Rachel have a happy, healthy and long lasting relationship. Regardless of who you ship, Rachel didn’t deserve to die.
And ultimately, I just want my blue haired baby to be happy, healthy and loved.
PS, I reserve the right to edit to fix typos. lol

alexia
my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship:
well, @mickey-milkovich and are were discussing an upcoming scene between arthur x eliott we hope to see, which then spiraled into us thinking up ship names for them and some butchering perfect pronunciation of the french language...
i quote: ‘their jawlines would slice each other if they tried to kiss’
my ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship:

my favorite thing about the life is strange comic is all the salty “fans” of the original who aren’t getting a comic of the sacrifice bae ending as if that ending doesn’t give closure and also ultimately close out that story COMPLETELY like. you want a comic of what, exactly? half the driving force of that story is GONE if you let chloe die. it just is. you want a miserable comic of max alone in the world, having just faced the most traumatic events of her life and lost her best friend and is now left with no one else who remembers any of it but herself? no reason left to use her powers, probably fractured because even she isn’t sure anymore what was real and what she made up to cope with losing chloe? yeah, count me out. that’s not a story i can see resolving happily, or even satisfactorily. the reality is the best closure you’re gonna get on that tale was already given in the original game. move on already and let everyone else have their fun and maybe somewhere down the line you’ll get the hella miserable comic you so desperately want.

This is it! The moment we’ve all been waiting for! The Heroes Day special Season 2 finale! We’ve seen the posters, we’ve had our guesses and we’ve seen the villains and now, THE TIME HAS COME! Our lucky ladybug and catastrophic catboy gather up their friends, the furtive fox, shielding snapper and bossy queen bee in the ultimate showdown against the best of the worst from the malicious moth mans army. FOR PARIS! (trumpet plays the “Charge” music).
Heroes Day
*Part 1:Cataylst-In Paris, they have this holiday called “Heroes Day” (which btw is a real holiday mostly celebrated in the Philippines to honor a national hero, but in this case, it’s for the show) where all of Paris, France honors the five superheroes by doing a good deed to the community. Before I get to that, one of the most important things about this ep was the return of lying Lila Rossi.............FINALLY! It’s about f**king time! I was wondering where the f**k she was! Is-is this, is this how they characterize her in the show!? By making her show up near the end of each season!? Or like, what!? Any way, turns out, she’s been in hiding from everyone locked away in her room in Paris like a homebody and her lies just keep getting more and more outrageous! Apparently, everyone is still convinced at all her bulls**t and that she’s “in Prince Ali’s country helping out with Heroes Day” and only Marinette and Adrien aren’t buying it. I thought that perhaps word got out that she’s a compulsive liar after Ladybug outed her for her lies in “Volpina”, but nooooooooooooooo, that wasn’t the case and she didn’t learn jack s**t! She’s even convinced her own mother that Adrien is her bae and that the whole school was “shut down due to all the akumatizations” (Oh, she’s good!). As we all know, Marinettes pet peeve are liars, but she goes hypocritical and says she has a huge bakery tasting for everyone to one up their grand gestures (Adrien has it easy what with being rich and Cat Noir). With Gabriel, he’d been planning this for a loooooooooooooooooooooong time as he knows how much Lila despises Ladybug for ruining her chances with Adrien and exposing her lies in front of him and triggers her anger by praising Ladybug and insulting Volpina and then BOOM! Our faux fox is back at it again! (willingly!) She’s a pawn in Hawk Moths plan to make everyone in Paris have negative feelings by creating an illusion of Ladybug killing Cat Noir! Don! Don! Don! (if that’s how the cataclysm works on a person, then stay.the.f**k.back!). And then, he has his assistant, Natalie, willingly be akumatized as Cataylst! (knew it). She’s that red/black motorcycle looking villainess we saw in the Season 2 villains line up pic. She’s basically a human charger as her only power is to give Hawk Scarlet Moth, unlimited power to akumatize a bunch of people for his army. With Heroes Day turned to Villains Day, Ladybug and Cat Noir recruit Rena Rouge, Carapace (who found out about each other’s alter egos (well, Nino actually)) and Queen Bee (using a Bat Bee signal) for the epic battle! You guys.......WE HAVE OUR OFFICIAL QUANTIC KIDS! (squee!). You guys remember the Quantic Kids! right!? That superhero team of what-could’ve-been for Miraculous Ladybug? With Mercury, Melody and Kid Mime and that-that Sparrow guy. Well,...........THIS IS THEM! I’m calling them The Quantic Kids from here on out, this is our Quantic Kids! Be happy!
*Part 2:Mayura-Starting from where we left off, The Quantic Kids are up against Scarlet Moth (making his first debut appearance (like Gabe did in “Queen’s Battle”) and yet, that didn’t cross any of the heroes minds with the similarities) with Cataylst in charge and Paris “seeing red” with the akumatized villain army. The fight scenes were cool as the heroes were careful not to use their “one hit” powers and only do physical combat and weaponry use before using it as a last resort. Unfortunately, it didn’t help as Ladybugs lucky charm was no use with Scarlet Moth gaining the upperhand and akumatizing Rena, Carapace and Queen Bee and using Dark Cupid to inflect more negative emotions to get the rest of the villains involved. Don! Don! Don! It was just the dynamic duo now. However, they weren’t alone as the minor/background characters stepped in as calvary! (trumpet plays the “Charge” music). After the complete de-evilization of everyone, Ladybug and Cat Noir finally meet Hawk Moth face-to-face and battle him! Sadly, he’s still powerful enough to defeat them, buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, Rena, Carapace and Queen Bee come back to finally defeat him once and for all! That is, until Mayura (formally Le Paon in work-in-title progress) came in. Yes miraculers, we finally see the peacock miraculous in use and it’s by Nathalie! (knew it too). The power of the peacock gives the wielder the power of creature creation to protect someone with their negative emotions using their fan as the weapon with one of its feathers and this helps Hawk Moth escape. The season ends with Marinette getting help from her friends with her good deed, Adrien calling Marinette their “everyday Ladybug” and Marinette stepping up her game (remembering Kagmies words on hesitation) and kissing Adrien! (on the cheek, but still!). (big echoing voice) And so once again, the day is saved! Thanks to THE QUANTIC KIDS! (”Miraculous Ladybug” theme song plays).
On the first half, we all thought that in Season 2, Lila would be frequently akumatized as Volpina to fight Ladybug since she still holds a grudge against her, but she was mostly “hid away” until Hawk Moth needed her for something bigger.......I didn’t like that! I wanted her around to see how her character will grow, but I guess we’ll have to see that next season from what I heard. Most of the villains we saw in the poster for “Heroes Day” were there except for a few such as Reflekta (all thanks to Marinette), Collector (for obvious reasons) and Anansi (that ones on Alya). I was wondering if maybe Hawk Moth had put into thought with who he wanted to come back, but I guess he was just too mad with power to think or plan carefully. I mean, I assumed he was going through a list of which villain was tough enough and which was too pathetic and narrowing it down to only the most challenging for the heroes, but I guess, like I had mentioned, he’s desperate! On the second half, When the heroes were in the combat battle, I assumed they would fight whoever it was they personally faced from being akumatized, but I think that was covered with The Bourgeois family with Chloe and Riposte with Cat Noir since they needed the rest of the screen time to come up with an ultra de-evilazation (I did like that Guitar Villain and Frightningale were only there to provide fight music thus breaking the fourth wall! Lol!). The minor characters were bada** to charge at the akumatized villains risking their own lives to save their city’s heroes cuz not only are each and every one of them is special in their own way, but heroic! (Hey! (shrugs) It is Heroes Day after all) and this is why we love them so much!. When faced with “Hawk Moth” at last, they came close to discovering what he wanted with the their miraculouses, but with all the villainy he did, they assumed it was for a dark purpose (we all know the real reason why, but he was too proud to admit it). No appearance by Duusu, but we did get to see Mayura! I really thought that fan weapon of hers would be used as individual knives to throw like that one woman from Rush Hour 3, but it had its own function. They also revamped the desing art for them, but to me it looks a little “overdone”. Not sure if this was a last minute touch up or not. From what we saw in “Queen’s Battle”, Nathalie is secretly in love with Gabriel and is fiercely devoted to him doing whatever she can to help him succeed, business or villainy. Also, the reason the peacock miraculous was never used is because it’s damaged leaving the wielder feeling weak. Hmmmmmm, maybe that’s what might of happened to who could have possibly first owned it? *cough*Emilie*cough*. We also found out that almost everyone in class is an Adrienette shipper! Yea! Phew! What a season! New heroes, villains, kwamies and characters to gush about. We have The occasional Rena Rouge, Carapace and Queen Bee whom we all guessed would be Alya, Nino and Chloe, respectively. Villains that came so close to taking Ladybug and Cat Noirs miraculouses, the cutie patootie kwamies that’ll obviously be given to Marinette and Adriens classmates next season (and I think we already know a few), and newbie characters such as Audrey Bourgeois showing up after all the crazed theories we’ve had of her and commin’ in with canon and Juleka’s older brother, Luka, to spice up the love square with Kagami towards our heroes. Nice changes happened as we got a few Chloe redemption episodes, Adrienette growing closer and closer (and if what was promised, happening in Season 3) and secrets of Emilie Agreste and what might have happened to her! I’m pretty bummed we didn’t get that “Gagotor” episode or Halloween special that was promised (why do they keep doing this to me!?), but they better bring it back next season or so cuz otherwise, I’m gonna be real pissed off! I did hear, however, that in Season 4 we’ll see Laddybug and Cat Noir get new outfits and powers! So okay! Catch you guys up next season where my reviews will be better! Bye!

if you played life is strange and you think “bae over bay” is the sole correct choice, you’re wrong, and here’s why.
chloe’s choice to sacrifice herself is the culmination of her character development over the course of all five episodes. when she’s introduced, she wastes no time letting you know how much she hates arcadia bay and everyone in it--- that she’d like to drop a bomb on it and turn everything to glass. i love chloe with all my heart, but there’s no denying that, in the first couple of episodes, she’s incredibly selfish. she blames everything around her for her pain, even going as far as saying william “left” her by dying, bearing a grudge against her mother for trying to move on, and getting angry at max for giving some of her attention to kate. chloe has suffered greatly, but she allowed no wiggle room for anyone else’s pain.
that has all changed by the final decision in episode 5. she’s learned from max how important it is to care for others, and that everything isn’t black and white. she acknowledges that her mother has suffered immensely as well and doesn’t deserve to die in a diner, and even says david doesn’t deserve the pain of losing her. chloe no longer wants arcadia bay to pay for her own hardships. by the final decision, she has matured so much and become so brave ( a bravery that’s undoubtedly inspired by max ) that she’s willing to give her own life to make sure no one else has to needlessly suffer.
sacrificing herself is a decision she makes. she, of her own volition, chooses to accept the fatal events from which she’d been spared one week prior. she doesn’t want to see anyone else die. the choice is ultimately in your hands, because you’re the only one with the power to make it happen, but chloe believes it’s time to accept fate. this is the same type of scenario from the alternate timeline, where chloe asks max for an assisted suicide. she doesn’t want to live in misery any longer, but more importantly, she doesn’t want to burden her parents with unbelievable emotional and financial strain. it’s chloe’s choice, but she can’t do it on her own.
when you deny chloe of her choice, when you deny her any power over her own life, over her own fate, you’re doing so with ultimately selfish reasons. “i’d take her over arcadia bay”, “i wouldn’t trade her for the world”, “i want her to have a better life”, “i don’t want her to have to die”, these are all reasons that are ultimately self-serving, because they originate from what you want. they aren’t reasons that take into account what she wants. chloe has grown immensely over the course of the game. the least we can do is give her power over her own life.
all this is in addition to the fact that the entire purpose of max’s time travel power is to communicate the futility of life. nothing ever seems to be fixed, no matter how much max rewinds and retries. even in alternate timelines, nothing is perfect. there is no path that brings everyone happiness and peace. this is a reflection of the reality in which we all live. terrible things happen, often to good people. and we can’t fix them. hindsight can’t prevent them. all we can do is appreciate what we have while we have it. it’s a frightening and daunting reality, and if it scares you, then that’s okay. it’s okay to be scared. but chloe wasn’t scared anymore, and for that i will endlessly, monumentally respect her for that, as well as her decision.
and that’s why “bay over bae” is an equally valid, if not truer, ending.

Max stupid scum and not worthy of Chloe, it's not RP. It would have been better if she had died, because Chloe loves only Rachel, even Ashly Burch confirmed it.
// hmmm, well, good on you for your opinion? Ashly Burch, while she is a VA and I respect that, is also a person with one opinion. I respect her highly for her work with Chloe and with BtS, but I’m also not going to fall to my knees and worship what she says in regards to which ship is better. Hannah Telle, for instance, chose Bay>Bae. This doesn’t mean that anyone who chose otherwise was wrong. It’s a difference of moral choices and opinion.Max and Rachel are two different people with completely different personality types. They both complete Chloe and exaggerate her good and bad qualities to different degrees and in different ways. I ship both. I’m Amberprice, Pricefield, and Amberpricefield. I also ship Caulrich and Chasefield, so that’s all good in my book too. So chillax a little anon. The important thing is that Chloe is happy. That’s ultimately what the goal is here. She’s suffered enough without people hating at both of the people she loves.
