Tru story: throughout my moms whole pregnancy, everyone including the doctors were convinced I was gonna be a boy because they could never get a clear look at me in the ultra sounds so my parents had only picked out boy names until I was born to which they changed their choice of “Eric” to Erika :))

Everything about this chapter is good and I love it.

Can these two be anymore ridiculous??? Probably.

Save the needy child tho omp I’m dying.

“It looks like he decided to stay after all.”

Realizing he’d been caught staring, Guard turned his attention away from the window that peered out over Epads vast horizon. Truth be told, he had originally been staring out at the workers hanging off the side of the Rising Star, replacing some of the other shattered thick glass panes. He could see however, why one would think he’d been looking out on the two sparring bots outside the ship.

��It appears that way,” Guard agreed.

“You didn’t think he was?” the femme asked, leaning against the wall slightly.

Guard looked at the medic for a long pause. “No,” he said slowly. “I thought he was going to leave in the end.”

“Guess he’s full of surprises.”

“It would seem so.”

“You like having around, don’t you?”

The older mech shifted uncomfortably on his damaged leg and back to the other. As he turned his optics back to the expansive view of the brownish-red dirtball of a planet, he could see the medic trying to study his blank expression.

“Reminds me of my younger days,” Guard gruffly ventured, giving in to the femme’s scrutinizing stare.

Offering a thoughtful hum, the medic reached out to place a servo upon the elder Commander’s shoulder. “Are you ever going to tell him?”

“It’s hardly important.”

The femme vented. “I suppose you’re right.”

She moved her glance to the outdoors as well. She didn’t understand, Guard knew this.

He shifted his weight once again, wincing as he clutched his cane for support.

“Ah- I saw that,” the medic hissed. “Come on, we’re going to the med-bay.”

Guard instantly pouted. “Do I have to?” he whined pitifully. “I need to keep an optic on the repairs.”

“Neutroboost can do that.”

A grimace moved briefly over Guard’s usually clam face. “Unhappily, perhaps. Criticizing the mechs at work and telling them they’re doing everything wrong.”

“You can’t keep him locked up forever, Guard. He wants to help.”

Guard grunted. “He’s a good mech, and I know he means well, but he just hasn’t been the same since...”

Placing a servo against Guard’s shoulder and backside, the medic offered a sympathetic smile. “I know, since Crookedwing. Cut him slack though, let him take some control. You could use some medical grade energon and some work on your leg. I managed to swindle some of the stuff from the android buddy.”

“Fine, fine,” Guard rumbled, limping slowly beside the femme.

“Thank you,” sighed the medic. “I’ll be sure Neutroboost is informed he’s solely in charge for the time being. Now lets see about making you more comfortable.”

Novastrike dodged to the left as Blackout lunged at her, his rotors spinning rapidly. Behind her, the ground exploded outward as Scorponok came breaking free of the planet’s crust.

It was a lot more difficult than she remembered fighting two bots at once. Then again, she’d never fought a veteran of battle like Blackout, or a digging ambush predator like Scorponok.

The air shifted as the bug went to strike with his tail; the barb still enclosed in its metal casing for protection. The little femme jerked to the side as the appendage went by her and snapped her arm out; a blade with a rubber coating on the edge whacked into the minicon’s tail.

Scorponok released a faked shriek of agony, as if his tail barb had been removed.

Snorting back her laughter, Nova backflipped, landing on Scorponok’s side. She ducked as Blackout’s blades buzzed above her.

Flattening her frame against Scorponok, the bug tried flinging his frame back and forth. When that didn’t immediately dislodge the small femme, he threw himself against the dirt, angrily clicking.

Novastrike jumped from him as he turned, rolling on the ground and springing back up onto her pedes. A slew of stun rounds pelted the bug’s helm and down his backstrut as rolled.

As the minicon fell over, temporarily disabled, Nova raised her weapon to where Blackout had stood.

She noticed the swift repositioning of his shadow on her side and turned. A moment too late, she cursed, seeing how close Blackout’s rotors were to her helm.

“You forget how many bots you’re facing and get caught up in the smaller squabbles,” Blackout stated calmly, his rotors coming to a swift halt.

An exhausted huff escaped the little femme and she offered a half-smile. There was a glint of defeat and sorrow in her optics. No matter how many times she tried, it felt like she’d never get the upper servo on him.

“It’s easier to take out the smaller ones first,” Nova insisted.

“For larger bots,” Blackout agreed. “Bots like me, bots like Neutroboost. But you are not a standard sized bot, or a titan-class bot. You are much smaller. You can’t focus on any one opponent unless they’re already at critical.”

“What do you suggest?”

“Movement, but not running. You burn out too quickly when you use your full speed. Remain back, take your time. Avoid direct confrontation. Let them wear down, and take advantage of their own mistakes. When they press too close, strike them hard.”

“Like in the knee joints,” Nova stated.

A faint smile appeared on Blackout’s face. “Exactly that.”

Releasing a discouraged vent, the femme downcast her optics a moment. She raised them slowly, the blue hues growing brighter. “Round four? Best four out of seven?”

Chuckling quietly, Blackout shook his helm. “How about a break and some energon first?”

“Awww, lame,” Nova pouted.

“And then we should probably get back to work on the photon burst repairs...”

A groan escaped the small femme. She threw an arm over her helm dramatically and flopped back into the dirt on her backside.

Clicking, Scorponok twitched his limbs beside her.

Rolling his optics, Blackout gave a light shake of his helm. He bent down slowly and picked the scorpion up to set him on his pedes. It didn’t prove very helpful. The still-paralyzed bug’s legs trembled and he instantly fell onto his belly, huffing.

Placing her servos around Novastrike, he picked her up slowly.

Squeaking, Nova tried to sit up. Her ears twitched nervously. She wasn’t used to being lifted and handled by others. She was independent; capable of getting up and in where she wanted on her own.

This was certainly a new experience. She couldn’t tell if she liked it or not.

“We have plenty of time to work on training,” Blackout stated. “But we’re only on Epads until the repair work is done on Rising Star. And this is also the perfect opportunity to use the droids tools to finish repairing the weapons system as much as possible.”

Novastrike narrowed her optics slightly. “Uh, I hate it when you’re right.”

“I’ve been wrong before?” Blackout mocked, arching an optic ridge as he grinned.

“Ugh, stupid,” Nova mumbled, her audios flaring up with a light glowing blush.

Snickering quietly, Blackout slowly slid Novastrike on one servo, and then to his shoulder. She grabbed tightly onto the nearest pointed, jagged piece of metal kibble on his frame and threw a questioningly glance to the mech’s faceplate.

He didn’t even pass her a glance, but instead, gazed down at Scorponok. “Join us in the ship when you’re able to feel your limbs again.”

An irritated chirp escaped the bug. “Ungrateful mech. Help the femme, leave me.”

Wicked light illuminated Blackout’s optics. “You’ll be fine,” he goaded in an amused tone.

As Blackout stepped to walk around Scorponok and head for the space vessel, Novastrike gripped his armor firmer and bit down on her glossia. The faint bounce from his strides caused her to jump a little in place.

She gave a quizzical glance towards Satan, but he was staring blankly straight ahead.

Wow, he looked even more striking up close. Dignified, imposing, a dark light in his optics and a strong jaw. She could make out knicks and scars along the armor around his helm now, like he’d been in a handful of counters with close calls to his helm.

A shiver raced down Nova’s spinal strut. A whisper in the back of her helm warned her that she was very close to a much more vicious and murderous predator than herself.

Then why did it feel a lot like attraction in her spark than the horrified tremors of fear?

There was absolutely no space inside of the blasted photon burst gun’s operation system for even Novastrike to move in. Resorting to half-standing, she grunted and hissed unhappily while trying to shove replacement gears into the stupid thing. Every other time she moved, she was banging her helm against something.

“I’d help more, if I could,” Blackout offered, his holoform poking his helm in the hole just enough for Nova to see him.

She didn’t even try glancing in his direction. Primus knew, she did not need that distraction. One look and she’d probably be shoving her arm into something and have it torn off, or would twist just so that they’d need to spend jours just trying to get her unstuck.

“Uh-huh,” she muttered instead.

“Try going above, instead of under.”

“Oh gee, because I have the extra helm-space to try that. Not helping.”

Blackout exhaled impatiently. “Here,” he grumbled. “Tilt your helm slightly to the right.”

Confused, she slowly began to incline her helm.

“There, right there. Now, slowly go up.”

“Alright,” Nova grumbled, not understanding.

Sure enough, she managed to nearly stand up, although her neck ached slightly at the angle and there were wires dangling in front of her faceplate and lying on her ears.

“This is so very comfortable,” she gritted through her derma.

Rich, warm laughter escaped Blackout. Primus, Nova could feel her insides melt into putty.

“Can you see where it’s supposed to go now?”

“Yeah, but I’m really scared to move forward and get myself tangled in these wires, or fall further into the device.”

“Don’t be frightened,” Blackout remarked, his voice unbearably soft. “I’ve got you.”

Was she glitching? She had to be. By the Thirteen, she hard no problem with the rough and deep gravely tones of his gravely voice; honestly it was strangely addictive to listen to where you’d feel weak in the knee-joints.

But the quiet, soft tone; missing all the rumbling undertones entirely, was an entirely different kind of heaven.

Give her peace, Primus. She felt like one of those bots seen teasing and flirting pathetically; throwing themselves at anyone who gave them half a glance.

Servos gently grasped Nova by the hips and she jumped, slamming her helm into a piece of the machine. Tears instantly watered in her optics and she screwed up her face in pain.

“Sorry, did I startle you?”

Primus she was glad that at this angle, he couldn’t see her face.

“Uh, a bit, yeah,” she strained, trying to swallow down the need to cry about her helm or cry about the digits touching her.

One seemed a far bit more of a logical response than the other.

“I just wanted to keep you steady,” Blackout’s voice trailed, sounding vaguely confused by her reaction.

Okay, so it was just her. Even better.

“Thanks, I’ll try now.” Try not to think about those stupid strong servos holding her.

Get a hold of yourself femme, Nova fumed at herself. It is literally just servos. On your body. He’s not whisking you away to go find a cozy spot to cuddle and-

“Ouch!” Nova yelped, trying to straighten her helm and whacking it against something else.

“Careful,” Blackout advised. “You’re going to damage your processor being that reckless.”

Ignoring Satan’s sinful words (well, not exactly sinful, but did you hear that voice?), Novastrike slowly leaned in and brought her arm up and around a section of the machine. Reaching around with her other arm, she took the gear and inclined further in, sliding it slowly into place.

“Oh thank Primus,” she whispered. “Bolt, please?”

Blackout released one of her sides and tapped her lightly with the bolt.

“Thank you.”

Taking the bolt, she pushed it into place and slowly began to screw it on.

“When we’re finished with this, maybe we should go for a walk?” Blackout offered.

A walk?

Like... a date?

The dark space suddenly became a lot brighter as Nova’s ears began to glow.

“Uh, where to?” she vaguely asked.

Blackout shrugged, though she couldn’t see it. “We haven’t really explored much of the surrounding area. Maybe just a small expedition, the two of us.”

The two of us.

No Scorponok.

“Um, yeah, that sounds nice,” Nova agreed a little breathlessly.

“Great.” Blackout beamed. “How’s the work coming?”

Novastrike shifted slightly, feeling Blackout’s digits press into her sides tighter.

“I’m done but I... I think I’m stuck.”

A snicker escaped Blackout. “Okay, hold on. Lets get you out of there first.”
