Ugh, was having a great time mocking my recently imprisoned rival when I noticed the camera positioning makes it so that I appear behind the bars, thus framing me as trapped in a metaphorical prison of the narrative, now my whole day is ruined. Fuck.

For those who don't know, Rafah Crossing is closed. Meaning Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are technically not allowed to go into Egypt through Rafah Crossing (with exceptions, like holding a foreign passport) so in order to evacuate, Palestinians need to bribe Egyptian border security officials. The standard price used to be about $5000 - 7000 per person but some Palestinians have been told to pay $10,000 per person just to cross the border, forget other expenses like food and boarding.

For a group of people who are enduring genocide and the complete destruction of their homes that money is impossible to raise without the help of fundraising. That and the collapse of the UNRWA is the reason you're seeing so many Gofundmes nowadays. The entire aid system is gone with the exception of local aid organisations that have limited reach.

So if you see a credible fundraiser, please at the very least share it so it can reach more people. This list by @el-shab-hussein is a good place to start.

Iron Man 1 really said "the actual bad guy is the white capitalist who is selling arms under the table to both sides in order to extend the war and make as much money from it as possible," and Iron Man 2 really said "the white capitalist who gives a platform to people with bad intentions in order to make a buck is the reason the bad intentions have the opportunity to prosper and cause untold damage," and Iron Man 3 really said "the real terrorist is the white capitalist who will create and use fear to manipulate governments and the public in order to sell a product," and I really don't think enough people recognise this.

trying to describe black sails to people is my personal sisyphean task. “it’s a pirate show” bad. “it’s functionally a prequel to treasure island but also it’s not at all” bad again, and also confusing. “it’s about pirates trying to destroy western civilization” mostly only true of the second half of the show and also doesn’t fully capture what i love about it. “it’s a pirate show about the power of stories, how civilization uses shame to keep people in line and turns them into monsters, and the power of queer rage. it’s got some of the best acting, writing, everything of any show i’ve ever seen.” the most accurate, but way too long and makes me sound pretentious and insane. send help i just want to talk about my favorite show.

Black Sails makes me feel so unhinged because beyond all the action and political machinations at its end it’s a show about intimacy and the power of Being Known and being loved within that knowledge. 

Like here is a story that grapples with what it means to let someone know you and see you for who you are, to let someone past your disguises and illusions, to let them into your history and to show them all the horrible, wonderful, gooey parts of you, and all the tender places that you’ve tried to armor over.

And it’s NOT just showing that it’s dangerous to let someone know you, but also that it’s important and powerful and that it will change your life for the better in ways you can’t imagine. When Flint let John Silver know him and his history he gave Silver the power to destroy him–which he does. But he also gave Silver the ability to give him the greatest gift of his life (being reunited with Thomas, being able to walk away and have peace)–which he does.

Flint was stuck in an endless cycle of fighting and destruction that he could never break free from–until he let Silver see into his past and gave Silver the power to rewrite his story, because Silver knew and loved him. 

The show is saying Look, look what someone can do when they know you. They can destroy you, yes. But they can also remake you. They can resurrect you. They can love you.

Silver speaking with his authority to validate flint and flint speaking with his authority to validate silver is like "are they lovers? No, worse" meme 😭😭😭

There are certain kinds of deaths that one should not be expected to relive, certain kinds of connections so deep that when they are broken, you feel the snap of the link inside you.
