Ahh my “kind of a bad guy” boy… look at me and my tendency of making boys with even the slightest hint of a violent side into sadists… Sigh

What are they generally like? Lucid, aware? Obsessive? How do they behave?

Honestly? Fairly lucid. He’s got an arrogance about him, but also a self awareness that keeps it in check. That same self awareness, combined with high social intelligence, honed perception skills, and impeccable planning makes him one of most subtle obsessives. He knows exactly how much interaction, how much time in your presence, how much checking in on you he can do before it becomes too much. He can pinpoint the exact line at which you will begin to find his presence overbearing and creepy, even if you don’t know where that line is yourself. As such, he stays right on the border – bowing out the moment he knows he’s spent too long chatting, glancing away just before his stares become unsettling. He walks a very narrow line with his behaviors, and pushes the limits as much as he can.

That being said, it can be difficult for him to hold back – part of him wants to say fuck it, who cares if he’s creeping you out as long as he’s with you? But he’s well-practiced in self restraint, and logically knows it’s the best course of action to stay in the background.

The sadistic streak in him, though, does almost enjoy the thought of you being a bit worried, maybe even creeped out. He would be the type to intentionally do things to creep you out, maybe even lead you to believe you have a stalker. He likes to see your cute face all scrunched up with worry, nervously looking over your shoulder at night, jumping at the littlest sound, grasping your weapon as if that would be enough to protect you from him. It’s an added bonus that you come running to him about it, too, but really, just seeing you like a cornered little mouse is a treat on its own.

He’s difficult to read, most of the time. He has a well-practiced innocent, charming, big-brother-esque exterior. It’s not even an act or anything, that’s basically just who he is. Some yanderes have sort of an external shell, a “fake” persona that they use to hide a darker personality, but that’s not how he is. Both his kind, pleasant side, and his battle-hungry, sadistic side are both “true” faces of who Childe is, simply very differing sides of the same person, with the latter being somewhat hidden away the majority of the time. It takes certain situations – or certain individuals – to draw it out.

How likely are they to kidnap their darling? How quickly will they do so?

He’s somewhat patient. He initially wants to avoid you getting too involved in his affairs, but eventually cracks if it means he gets to see you more. Eventually, though, it’s inevitable. He knows the dangers of the world, and can’t stand the thought of anyone - besides himself - hurting you. He knows you’re safest by his side, where he can protect you, so he’ll do what it takes to keep you there.

How quickly it happens depends on you. He will initially try to convince you that you need to stay with him, to abandon whatever quests you’re on, to stay by his side all the time, to stay safe. If you agree to those terms, and stay with him most of your time, you’ll put off any further action for a few months. Should you refuse, though, be it laughing it off and telling him he’s paranoid, or worst of all, reacting badly and trying to avoid him, you’ll significantly speed up the process.

How difficult is it to escape from them? How do they keep you restrained? How do they deal with attempted escape?

Just like he is in battle, he is a perfectionist at heart. He will have the best locks and chains available to him, and he will be incredibly difficult to get away from. He will keep you by his side the majority of the time, so it’ll be difficult to find an opportunity. Your best chance is to try while he sleeps, and that’s a weak chance in and of itself, considering he’s a rather light sleeper.

He’s the kind that will find an escape attempt more amusing than anything. If he sees you trying, he might actually sit back from the shadows, watch for his own entertainment. If you can’t manage to get the locks off, he’ll just be amused, eventually sneaking up behind you to grab at your shoulders, bursting into laughter at your squealing, horrified reaction. But should you get out? Oh, from then on, it’s a game. A challenge. It’s like tag… only when he finds you, he’s going to drag you back.

He’ll drag it out too - giving you little scares, letting you just catch a glimpse of him, watching how you jump and squeal. He’ll let you think you’ve gotten away, give you a moment to pause and catch your breath before finally giving himself a dramatic little entrance just when you think you’ve finally succeeded. He’ll give you an option when he finally finds you, promising you that if you come quietly, your punishment will be less severe. Whether you agree to those terms or try to run, he’ll just end up slinging you over his shoulder and taking you back. You just get to choose whether or not you’re conscious for that.

He will find it hilarious if you try to fight him in any way. He’ll entertain it even, allowing you to come at him with whatever makeshift weapon you’re brandishing - dodging your weak hits until he grows tired of it, grabbing you by the arm and quickly disarming you. He won’t just shut you down before you get the chance, no, he wants you to understand just how much weaker you are, to feel humiliated, to understand your place.

“You didn’t actually think you could even land a hit on me, did you? You should know better than that by now.”

How easy are they to trick, deceive, or manipulate?

Don’t try it. Childe can read people on another level, he’ll probably know you’re lying before you even speak just by the look on your face.

He might play along with your lies and manipulation, though. For a short time. If only to humiliate you in the end. He finds it cute that you think you could manipulate him, that you really think you’re that smart.

How lenient are they? What privileges can you have, and what will you be denied?

He’s one of the few that would let you out of the house, with the condition being that you will be expected to remain by his side. He’s actually more worried when he leaves you alone. He’s just that confident in his own combative skills – if you’re home, something could get to you. He feels safer having you right out there with him than left by yourself. He is fully confident in his ability to protect you, and watch you, make sure you don’t get away. He won’t take you to any very serious conflicts, though, simply because he doesn’t want to be distracted. If necessary, underlings can take care of you, although he doesn’t like entrusting others with your care – the perfectionist that he is knows no one will be as perfectly attentive to you as he is.

He’s also one of the few that would accept you having communication with family and friends. He’ll carefully monitor it, allowing you to send letters only after he’s read and approved them, carefully analyzing to ensure they have no traces of some kind of encoded cry for help. If he does find something like that, that privilege will be gone.

What kind of rules do they have? What kind of punishment would they use?

He’s not going to be the most restrictive, but certainly not lenient. As aforementioned, you’ll be allowed to go outside, but only with him.

It will be a given that he expects you to be good when you’re out on your walks or little tasks. If you try to bolt, or ask for help, you’ll have a price to pay. The latter, trying to get help, will be worse, he can’t let anyone who knows too much live. He’ll make sure you see it, make sure you know it's because of you that this had to happen.

“And you don’t want anyone else to end up like that, no…? And you know how to prevent that from happening again, don’t you?”

If it’s simply trying to run, he would be one to resort to locking you away for a few days, make you a little bit more appreciative that he even takes you out to see the sun in the first place. After you spend a few days without it, maybe you’ll be ready to be good and earn your little walks by behaving when you’re out.

Additionally, should you get mad and pouty in general, he’ll give you exactly what you want – to be left alone. He won’t speak to you… or respond to you when you talk to him. He’ll pretend you’re not there. You won’t get any acknowledgement until you’re on your knees, crying and apologizing and promising to be better. If he feels like you’ve humbled yourself enough, he’ll pick you up, reassure you, rub your back and say you can start over.

“See, now you understand how I feel when you ignore me. Doesn’t feel good, does it? …I don’t want to do things like this, but you didn’t leave me with much of a choice when you refused to listen.”

How do they deal with rivals, or perceived rivals? Will they get rid of them? Will they kill them themselves, or find another way?

Childe is not exactly regarded for his mercy. He’s brutal, and can bring himself to kill even when it’s not something he’s personally invested in - that much more so, when it’s something that actually bothers him. He’s not one to fret over something like the value of human life, or whatever. No, he knows what he wants, and he will get what he wants. Any means needed to reach that end, any obstacles he has to strike down along the way, are insignificant.

He’s not the type to be super paranoid of everyone you speak to, but he can read people well enough to know when he sees someone who likes you. So while your platonic friends might be ok, any potential love interests will have some… Mysterious mishaps.

How easy is it to make them mad? What does their anger look like?

His telltale sign that you’ve fucked up is the drop in his expression. He has mastered the soft smile he wears most of the time, he knows how to keep it just like that even when frustrated, even when afraid, even when sad. But if it drops, it means you have officially pissed him off. His face turns into a narrow-eyed scowl, one you’ll never see much of otherwise. His voice is lower, and cold, barking commands at you rather than his usual smooth way of speaking.

Even when angry, he’s not actually one to get exceptionally violent with you. He knows his strength, and he doesn’t want to hurt you. He’s controlled enough to prevent himself from taking it all out on you, so he’ll most likely throw you into a confinement room, only to storm off and go deal with the brunt, most violent bit of his anger on some unfortunate bandits.

You’ll get a little bit of warning for his anger, he’ll speak through clenched teeth, smile starting to look strained and twitching at the corners, speaking to you with a clear rough irritation, trying to warn you you’re on the edge of making a big mistake.

“Come on, doll, don’t be like that. I’m really not a bad guy… Just cooperate with me and make this easier on us both, ok?”

Do they see you as above them, beneath them, or equal to them?

It’s not blatant at first, but definitely beneath. It goes double if you’re particularly lacking in combative abilities, but even if you are a fighter, you’re no match for him. Ultimately, he would describe you as fragile. You’re like a little glass doll in his eyes. It’s not that you’re not precious to him, it’s just that you're weak, and he's strong, and he will take every opportunity to remind you of your difference.

That doesn’t make you worthless - no, no, you’re invaluable to him. It’s almost like how one would view a pet - precious and beloved, but also as so much dumber and weaker than oneself. A pet needs it's master to take care of it, or it will die. You, out on your own, stand no chance - you’re like a little stray he took in, saved from your inevitable fate of death had you stayed out there too long. And like all pets, you should acknowledge that and be grateful you have a master that loves you, a master that’s so superior to you in every way, that can truly care for you.

How determined are they for you to love them? How hard will they try to make it happen? Or are they content just having you?

Childe’s a little hot and cold on this. Some days, it seems like he’s really trying. Some days, it seems like he doesn’t care. And some days, he’s clearly taking some sort of sadistic amusement in your misery. Overall, though, he does. His inner nature that craves excitement and violence is an innate part of who he is, and while your fear is cute, he believes you can still love him, even if you’re afraid of him, and he will try to make that happen. If he feels like his humiliation has gone too far, or like he is genuinely breaking your spirit past the point of being recoverable, you’ll see a fairly intimate, soft side of him, and he’ll go easy on you for a few days. He can’t keep that up forever, though. The desire to break you and have you is just too strong, and you just have to be so adorable, he can’t keep going easy on you for too long.

Bonus: Is there anything that makes them unique, in comparison to other yanderes?

As aforementioned, he would totally like to see you worried, and lead you on this presumption of a stalker – leave anonymous gifts on your window, write notes and slip them under your door, come in at night to watch you sleep, making sure to leave the window open when he leaves – make sure you know someone was in there. He has to hold in the laughter when you bring it up, assures you it’s alright, and smirks when he watches you walk right into the arms of the person you’re supposed to be afraid of.
