In the darkness, there be dragons. But it isn't true. We can prove that it isn't true. In the dark, there is discovery, there is possibility, there is freedom in the dark once someone has illuminated it. And who has been so close to doing it as we are right now?

Rhaenicent predictions for S2? My guess is they’ll have Alicent abandon her family and join Team Black. It’s the only way I can see the ship becoming canon.
Apologies in advance, I meant to keep this brief, but... well, they are my otp.
My view on Rhaenicent is basically this:
Tumblr media
Okay. Jokes aside, I’m not predicting that Rhaenicent will ever become canon. They simply have too much bad blood and too many war crimes in the baggage to ever reunite, and we all know there is much more and much worse to come.
Yes, they’re clearly in love and never got over each other, but while I'm fairly sure Rhaenyra, raging bisexual that she is (me too girl lmao) recognises their past situationship for what it was, I'm not sure Alicent ever acknowledged it even to herself. She may be the lesbianest lesbian that Westeros ever saw, but she's also spent years repressing that part of herself and devoting herself to the role of a wife and a mother as well as to her religious convictions. (And yes, it is very telling that in spite of all that, Alicent was ready to jump into bed reconcile with Rhaenyra in episode 8 anyway.)
Most importantly though, there is no way in hell Alicent is going to abandon her children — the children she’s suffered and sacrificed so much for — for Rhaenyra’s sake. That is not happening. Likewise, I have a hard time seeing Rhaenyra forgiving Alicent for, as she sees it, participating in the usurpation of her throne. I would love for them to have hate sex, but at this point I don’t see any possibility for an actual full reconciliation that wouldn’t be a betrayal of either character.
What I AM predicting is boatloads of gay pining and homoerotic fighting, much like in season 1. I’m expecting that, in spite of all that's happened and all the ways they've hurt each other, both Rhaenyra and Alicent will have a lot of conflicting feelings about going to war against each other. One or both of them might even advocate for the other to be spared should their side win. If and when they meet face to face again I expect the romantic tension to be off the damn charts, but I don’t think either of them will acknowledge it, because how could they? They’re enemies now, after all. They both have their own families to protect and their own diametrically opposed ambitions to fight for now. I expect them to homoerotically commit all of the war crimes and hurt each other over and over, because they're at war and they have to, and hate every second of it. They hate each other and miss each other all at once. They want each other and can never have each other. They were forced apart and suffer for it. That's the tragedy I am expecting and hoping to see.
TLDR: I don't think they will ever reconcile, and I'm completely fine with that. The possibility of them becoming canon has never been part of the appeal of Rhaenicent to me. I am simply of the opinion that everything, especially war crimes, is much more fun with homoerotic subtext. I'm just here for the gay tragedy of it all.

Why RHAENYRA WAS WRONG for sleeping with SER CRISTON
There was nothing good or romantic about what happened between these two in this scene. And it is sad that not even the producers and directors will admit it, elevating Rhaenyra as being in the right for exploring her sexuality and applauding themselves for applying ‘the female gaze’. This was abuse in every sense of the word, with Rhaenyra partially aware/ fully aware of what she was doing and not caring about the effect of her actions on her subject (Criston).

HOTD!Criston Cole as a character is so funny to me because he's literally one hateful comment away from being everyone's favourite character but the fandom refuses to admit it. He's got everything, he has the fictional man to be obsessed over starter pack: the backstory, the questionable moral code, the delusions, the devotion, the dark moments, the dark hair, the scene where he lies in the mud with blood on his face and laughs AND he's played by an objectively conventionally attractive actor but the fandom pretends not to notice because he was rude to their self insert.

Since HOTD premiered, I have been thinking what is the difference between Team Green view on the show vs. Team Black view on the show. This was to do in reflection of my own fic (which will be coming soon) and the matter is that TB view the show as a family conflict that could have been easily absolved if Alicent knew her place. TG however views the show as a political dynastic conflict that incompass the entire realm, it's ethics, morals and culture.
And I put this on the writer's because rewatching HOTD it is framed liked a CBS Soap Opera Family Drama for the family company just with dragons.
Alicent is the absolute hag of a second wife who is greedy and Rhaenyra is the free wielding step daughter who father chose her to be the next CEO.
That's why TB sees Helaena marrying Jace as a non-issue because it's a family drama to them. Whilst TG sees it as a problem, it's a political dynastic issue.
Also when people mention the fact that having children with Daemon put Jace, Luke and Joffrey in danger...."The boys loved their big brothers, that wouldn't happen!"
Love never stop wars. Brothers have fought over the throne for less.

big fan of alicent and rhaenyra trying so hard to hate each other following ali’s marriage to viserys but every time they look at each other all they see is the object of the most visceral love they will ever feel in their entire lives. how that begins to wane when helaena and jace are born and reality begins to set in. how they stop talking when lucerys is born. how they stare longingly after each other in the throne room and on the off chance they cross paths despite being situated so far away. how their eyes lock and suddenly they are girls beneath the weirwood tree again, but everything has changed so much that even the thought of returning to that level of familiarity is unfeasible. so they resort to stolen glances and bubbling resentment flavoured with something else, something from all those years ago…

Context i rewatched the scene in episode one and holy fuck do I hate this man
I am upset at something different but focusing on this so rant under the cut. I swear a lot and it’s kinda long so be warned
Look I know show! Aemma is older but holy shit he’s put her through at least five pregnancies (I don’t remember the exact number)!! At least four babies died!! And he’s hesitant when she says she’s done??? It’s not your uterus mf
And then! I get he’s the king he can make his own damn choices I don’t expect him to ask (even though he fucking should have) but at the very fucking least tell her???? No ‘hey we’re trying a new method of saving the baby’ no ‘hey so we’re going to try to cut out the baby’ nothing!!! Just ‘they’re bringing the baby out’ and ‘don’t be scared’! Why the fuck shouldn’t she be scared you are fucking cutting her open!! The fuck???
Also like I get it’s Medieval times and all but they do know the hole the baby comes out of right?? Like they have seen babies come though this hole (this exact hole to be precise) why not make it bigger or something??? Instead of just starting in the middle??? But nope murder time because of bullshit
And one more thing he couldn’t be with her until it was an emergency?! Sir your wife has had at least a few miscarriages!!! Announce the tourney then be with your fucking wife you dick!!!
I’m not getting into the whole ‘sees Rhaenyra as a child but goes for Alicent who is the same fucking age’ thing right now but that is also so fucked up
As well as the ‘also doesn’t teach Rhaenyra shit’ stuff like there are two particular frames that do not help (shot of Daemons empty seat then immediate cut to Rhaenyra pouring his cup) (like you know your brother tell your only child Something!!!)
I do hate this man. So fucking much. How he has any fans suprises me like how do you like this man
(And don’t say he felt guilty and redeemed himself bc no tf he did not! I don’t care how good Paddy is I love Paddy but Viserys can trip into the seven hells)

"You can go," Alicent says, "All of you," and picks up the sponge.
The servants are like to think this a generous gesture, her husband a sign of affection.
Of course, it is neither. Alicent has long learned that neither generosity nor affection serve her very much here in the Red Keep.
She wets the sponge and runs it over the king's pallid skin. Her touch can be considered gentle, almost a caress.
In truth she can't bear touching him. Her fingertips recoil when they feel the heat of his skin and her thoughts go back to nights spent on her back, counting the tassels on the heavy velvet curtains that hide the royal bed from view. Counting the thrusts. Counting the beats of her own heart.
Counting helps on those nights. Her father has always said she was bright. Good with numbers. An excellent wife, fit to keep her husband's household.
But a queen does not need to be clever, not anymore. Aemma was clever. Aemma failed. Aemma died.
All the realm requires of Alicent is her womb.
"You have a gentler touch than them," the king says and she knows he means it as a compliment. She knows he tries to be gentle to her, he tries to be nice.
But it's worse than silence, his fumbling attempt at establishing a connection.
Alicent gives him a forced smile, but Viserys would never know the difference. She cannot remember the last time she truly smiled.
As her husband rises from the bath, Alicent turns around, busying herself with his potions.
Those are their roles: he pretends to care for her and she pretends the very sight of him does not repulse her.
The maester has explained to her all the draughts he gives the king to congeal his blood, to hinder, if not stop, the strange disease that eats his skin.
Alicent knows how many drops the king needs of milk of the poppy, of sorrel and shepherd's purse and yarrow.
At first, she was petrified whenever the time for nightly potions came. It was a mighty task the maester had dropped on a young maid's shoulders.
But she is a maid no longer and has long since found pleasure in mixing the king's medicine.
She spends her days in her chambers, surrounded by ladies in waiting chosen by her father, sewing silently and worrying and trying not to think about the nights.
She spends most nights counting.
But now, only for a moment, she has the power to topple a kingdom.
Too much milk of the poppy, a stray drop of pennyroyal that mixes badly with comfrey, and Viserys might just drop dead.
Who could fault her then? The queen is young and inexperienced, they will say, the maester should never have left her to mix those potions on her own.
No one would ever believe she could do it on purpose. No one ever believes Alicent has a purpose of her own at all. First, she served her father's, now the king's.
The realm's, she might say, if she were in a more benevolent mood tonight.
It is not the first time regicide crosses her mind. It will not be the last.
Tonight, when Viserys will sweat on top of her, groping at her body, breathing hot, putrid air into her face, the thoughts will come back.
And Alicent will start counting.

one thing that is really fundamental to my understanding of Rhaenyra is that she HATES Viserys. I don't think she even fully understands the depth of her own hate but she does. She takes it out in all these other places (mainly Alicent) because she can't actually throw it back in Viserys' face because as much as she hates him he's her biggest defender. Every time she tries he threatens to withdraw his support and leave her completely vulnerable. As much as she hates him she can't separate him from her sense of safety.
And it's under this framework that I don't think it's remotely surprising that she never came to visit him except to ask him to defend her one last time. She separated herself from her actual primary abuser and she had no desire to go back and like, fair. He's never given her anything that wasn't conditional and so why should she?

Anyways if you're Palestinian and need to see other Palestinians speaking to feel sane again, I recommend checking out thepalestinedirectory.carrd.co for a directory of free to access links for and about Palestine by Palestinians — a couple of friends of mine started it and I would really appreciate it if you could share Palestinian led sources when discussing Palestinian history, culture, and politics. Please stop sharing zionist propaganda and lending them credence by amplifying their words.
