I love soriku so much and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with acknowledging that riku was an asshole to sora at one point. When you have a long relationship with someone you some times have points in time where the relationship is bad and just because you both love each other doesn’t mean that was not bad. Love does not invalidate unhealthy and it feels so cathartic to address that in soriku. To air it out. They have so much drama that they just do not talk about and when that gets brought up, because in a true relationship it will be brought up, it’s going to be messy and hard and that’s just mwah chef kiss I love exploring the bad fucked up times of relationships it’s so good

something else that we haven’t really seen the consequences of on sora’s mind is the separation and exit of the heart hotel gang’s hearts from his. i’m not sure if there will be lasting effects from this or not but i think it would be really interesting if there were. if there are, then that’s another thing to add to the pile of hardships his mind and his heart have had to go through.
ventus has been with sora for the majority of his life at this point. sure, they’ve always been separate people but existing together in one heart for so long, it makes me think surely there is going to be negative impact on sora now that that presence is gone. i think ventus would feel it too, but he is probably more prepared for it in a way having gone through a separation of self with vanitas and having more life experience away from sora. sora had literally grown up with ventus’ presence and it suddenly being gone feels like it should be a huge loss and throw sora’s heart and mind for a loop.
and then there’s sora and roxas. i’m not really sure how it completely works with them since they have their own separate hearts but they used to be one person. roxas had to return to sora in order for him and his memories to be complete again. the games made such a big deal about that plot point that it would feel odd if there were no negative be consequence to them separating again.
for xion, i’m not really sure where she stands in this since sora has his memories of kairi still. but she also held his memories and had to merge back into sora with roxas to recomplete his memories so i could see her absence also affecting his mind as well.
again, i don’t know if they’ll actually do anything with it but in my mind something like this feels like it would wreck sora. having ventus (a constant presence for the majority of his life even if it was unknown) and roxas (his other half that needed to merge back with him in order for him to be complete again) and xion (someone who held very important memories of sora’s and also needed to merge back with him to recomplete him) leave him in an instant feels like it should leave a big deal of fallout and doesn’t seem like it would be good for someone who has had so much done to his mind and memory already.
i’ve seen people complain about how square keeps making sora more dumb and i get that and agree sometimes because i do think that there are some moments where sora is definitely smarter than depicted. however, i sometimes i think it fits and its not because he is actually dumb but because he’s had his mind messed with a lot. and it was messed with during his formative years. in later games, sora is often forgetful, asking what other characters consider to be dumb questions, and shown being slow on the uptake. these things make sense when you consider that:
a) sora’s had his memories scattered and rearranged
b) had an entire year of his adolescence (an important time for brain development) forfeited to a coma in order to fix said scattered memories
c) has been manipulated and the victim of mind games multiple times
d) incurred heaping amounts of trauma in a very short amount of time
don’t get me wrong, i feel like sora is definitely smart in his own way and deserves to have more moments to shine in that regard, but when there’s moments where he forgets things or isn’t able to connect the dots as quickly as everyone else, it makes sense to me. it feels logical, understandable. when those moments happen and other characters make fun of him, i’m always like this kid’s brain has gone through hell and back, it’s a miracle it’s still functioning at all so give him some slack for fucks sake!
he’s still missing memories and it seems like he’s lost more in kh3 (if we’re assuming he forgot about riku’s sacrifice and the realizations he had regarding riku as the light) and might continue to keep losing them in kh4. his mind has suffered a lot and i wish the other characters would be more understanding. but for me, when i see him acting “dumb,” it doesn’t always feel out of character given what he’s gone through. he’s not dumb, his mind has just endured a lot and it makes sense that there are lasting effects from those events.
i have no idea if this is intentional, though lol if it’s not, then square, stop making him so dumb because he’s way smarter than that and you know it.
but if it is intentional, then i love it because it gives me so much satisfaction when events have tangible lasting effects, especially in ways that aren’t outright stated. it would also be cool if this was intentionally supposed to be a factor in sora’s self worth arc. because of his perceived increase of “dumbness,” other characters make fun of him more, making him feel worthless and wrecking his self esteem even further. it’s not his fault he’s having a hard time but he doesn’t understand why it’s happening and it’s another thing for people to shit on him for and eventually he’s going to snap or break under the pressure from all that shit. if this or something like it is the intended outcome, i think that would sick
#i’m really not sure they’re going to have any consequences since it feels like they’re veering away from established side characters a bit#but if they don’t address it that would be a shame tbh but i feel like there’s a lot of potential#and to me it’s just like how can having a heart with just sora in it for the first time since he was four years old not affect him#he already feels isolated due to the treatment he’s received and i’m sure he feels alone just being in quadratum AND this is the first time#no one has been in his heart with him??#that would fuck someone up#kingdom hearts#sora#text post#i yap#kh rambles

Not really one to articulate what I’m thinking the best but I did want to discuss this at base level at the very least because it’s a feeling I’m quite familiar with. I didn’t think as much into it when I was a kid myself. Probably because I felt it was only natural to want the things Sora and Riku did. I wasn’t happy, after all.
Sora and Riku going to the play island to “get away” from their home as far as they can go is REALLY sad…and Riku saying the adults won’t let them go alone until their older hints to me more than just “wishing for independence”. It makes me wonder just WHY they want to be independent at such a young age- not to say it’s uncommon for kids to think this way in general but bare with me and remember what I said at the start.
