forgive me if this is a weird question, but how would someone start if they wanted to get into sam and max? there's a lot of media around it and it's a little intimidating

There's the comics which i heavily recommend! I use this page whenever i want to read them, it may not be the best and there may be other better websites to read the comics but it's the one i could find that has all of the comics to read! http://selmiak.bplaced.net/games/pc/index.php?lang=eng&game=Sam-n-Max&issue=comic The first comic is Monkeys Violating the Heavenly Temple, which is a very great comic introducing Sam and Max and the world itself!

There's also the telltale games! That now are getting their Remastered versions thanks to Skunkape! (Right now they're working on the remaster of the third game, which is one of my favorite games of all time). The games have a tons of jokes and puzzles that requiere thinking out of the box, but they're really charming on their own way, you could check them out if you want!

It may be a little overwhelming, but the community is really nice and welcoming! Even the creator, Steve Purcell, is a funny dude, this was his self-made decoration on his wedding cake!

Sam and Max exist in a quantum superposition of cop and not-cop because it's textually unclear whether they're actual mercenary police officers or just private detectives with a weird gimmick, and it's never going to be decided one way or the other because the real answer to that question is "whichever is funniest in this particular scene".

They are, however, bastards 100% of the time, for reasons completely unrelated to whether or not they're cops.
